no way man... I used to use cronox3 excusively for SNES music... it wasn't until lunar came out with these soundfonts that I started using them. the reason the file was 1GB was because unfortunately the installer was bundled with the library...a library having nothing to do with SNES music.
Anyway yeah, I never tried to fool you!
Hell yes.
I was like "how would anyone needs 1 GB of stuff for such small wave samples".
In any case thank you for clearing things up. Making music with SNES sounds is great!

This is truly epic. There is no other way to describe it.
The only thing that could be more epic would be if somebody did a remix of the zelda door-open jingle

This community is all about taking something and turning it into something unique of your own, and you've hit the nail right on the head. This was increidbly entertaining listen.

This music is beyond mind-blowing, and not just because it is 3 am, crushing together zelda, megaman, and mario was nuts
Kudos sir, that is the most blown my mind has ever been, and in the best of ways

I became a man, died, reborn, listened to it again, became a man again, died again and came back again as a very, very, very well preserved and cognizant zombie.
Then I decided to make a post about how awesome this was. I love SNES sounds too much. The "production" ain't all that bad either.

It's a great remix; at first I didn't understood it but with a few listen I really loved it.
It's something like "the King Crimson of videogames"...totally mad but fucking awesome. Genius.

W-w-what?
Incredible. That opening Bowser section is just... wicked.
The little melodic variations everywhere blow my mind. How does one infuse so many other themes into this thing?!
That ending... hilarious. Phew, I need a nap.

I love being a part of sam's creating process, I fully got to appreciate this with WIP after WIP, which was immense. Sams' the man! I love his quirky mind, one day Sam I'm gonna fucking turn up at your house with chicken and beers. You can hold me to that.

Took me a while to get into it. Not into artificial sounds but the Arrangement Value completely makes up for it and more.
I wonder how long it would take to have an identical version but orchestral :P
Damn. I'm a long time fan of OCRemix and most of the songs I've heard here. But I had to register just to say how much this remix blew my mind. Amazing job, the entire song had me wondering what was coming next.

This is really something else, it's pure chaos, yet logical as far as the progression with the SMW soundtrack. Once the MMX comes in I'd say the rails are right off, but that didn't mean it wasn't very entertaining!
As far as the Thriller and NGGYU references, pure gold!

WHAT... THE... FUCK!!!?!?!?
MY EARS BLEED TO THIS AWESOMENESS!!!
...Ok, seriously, what the fuck? Why did I ever think OCR was awesome ever before listening to THIS!?! At first it was... Ok, cool, twisting the themes and textures in original sf... then I was rick-rolled, then LAUGHED AT by the great KEFKA! From there, you lose it; it's like you were just holding EVERYTHING BACK up to that point, then orgasmed all over the listener with the sweet sound of SNES...
...I can't say anything. I must... have... this...

okay wow... i thought the overly hyped responses were a good indication that this was going to be epic, but boy was i wrong!!
epic is an understatement.
This is the pure divine gaming god's blood of Shigeru Miyamoto himself... on drugs! :-D
No amount of gusing and ass kissing will do you justice, this song will never be outlived. at least not in my lifetime.

Sam this is AMAZING. You have amazing talent. The vanilla dome part, the entire last half, and especially the ending just blew me away. DAYUM.
If you made an album of original music as good as this and your Metroid mixes I would seriously buy it even if you charged 50 bucks for it CONSIDER THIS
You've now made SEVERAL of the coveted couple dozen remixes I've saved and listen to on a regular basis.

not an over-hyped response: THIS REMIX KICKS A$$!!!!!
i agree with other posters about the twisting and bending of the themes. right from the start you're drawn into the groove and each change leaves you begging for more. actually, i felt as if i was playing the game on hyperspeed. then the ending comes and you're warped this way and that finally ending with a great twist. love it. i think you need to do this again for other classics. you could work wonders with say the zelda sound fonts or other SNES greats. you are a god. epic. period.

Check my post count, I am a lurker extraordinaire, that's how good this song is. I couldn't sit by without throwing some much deserved praise your way. Admittedly, the beginning is a bit slow, but the pay off is worth it; and, it's not like bored or anything. I was thoroughly entertained the whole way though. Really, awesome job.

Sam, seriously dude! Make more music! I'm a huge fan of your Controller 1 album as well, some of the best chiptune music I've ever heard, no doubt.
My music would probably just about sound like yours if I was 3.5 times more talented and knowledgeable than I am.
Hey, that means I don't have to get better at all, I'd just be redundant :P

Not my cup of tea for listening pleasure, but this was flawlessly executed madness. If I were to describe this to someone, I would say it's like going through Willy Wonka's tunnel in fast-motion surrounded by everything early SNES related.

Did you extract the .wavs or just use the soundfonts straight away? Cause there are a lot of ugly loop points in there...

Question for sam: was this done within the limitations of the SPC700 chip? I mean, could this theoretically be done on an actual SNES?

Question for sam: was this done within the limitations of the SPC700 chip? I mean, could this theoretically be done on an actual SNES?
hell to the no haha. The last minute even has some totally non-snes string samples if you listen closely and after a few minutes in we start ignoring polyphony rules as well.
Did you extract the .wavs or just use the soundfonts straight away? Cause there are a lot of ugly loop points in there...
The loop points in the soundfonts are all correct however most soundfont players will adjust by one sample, you can manually fix them or just open them in Kontakt, which is what I did, in which case the loop points will be accurate and you won't have to adjust.
Cool. Where's the Secret of Evermore soundfont though? I still have that Jeremy Soule style tune of yours.

Cool. Where's the Secret of Evermore soundfont though? I still have that Jeremy Soule style tune of yours.
Everything prior to this was not made with soundfonts... the FFVI/Super Mario Kart/Secret of Evermore songs I made using my own instruments built from samples recorded live out of the original soundtracks... I didn't know about openSPC back then. This SMW Remix is the only thing I've ever done with these soundfonts.
Ah.
I used an app called snessor so far that extracts the raw samples from the ROM. I finished doing the Secret of Mana instruments a while ago and started on doing SoE, but it's a bit of a hassle since you have to browse through a shitload of .wavs, many of them garbled noise that represents other data being mistaken for audio.
Still, I find it really insightful to play around with those samples, seeing how important good sample choice was for a great soundtrack. Like single samples that sound cool across the whole register.
It might be fun to base a little project around that. Like, selecting a choice of 10-20 short samples, recorded by oneself if possible, and learning how to use them inside out over the course of several tracks.
