So....this is kinda like the all-star game of remixing now? Who's down for home run derby...with REMIXES.

Now this project is what I call a pleasant surprise. I thought I'd be really old before this game got a remix project, considering how the Wild ARMs series was labeled a cult classic. Waiting for this to be released in circa 2012 will be like waiting for Christmas...times 5,000. That's how I'm excited for the next 3-4 years of OC Remix projects. Five of them, including this one, are arrangements from games I'm a fan of. Jade Alan Haruno, this project was a (beep)ing genius idea. As you should expect, I can hardly wait for the remixes of the 8 battle themes, but there are others I'm anticipating. I'll be devastated if any of those five projects get canned.

Well I've been gone for quite some time. I haven't posted in a while.. I miss you guys... :(
and what a charming post by GTA Hater. Though I am hoping this project gets released A LOT earlier then 2012. Just saying. :P Also no way that project will be canned, I think. Making awesome progress and only in such a short period of time. It was originally my idea, but thank the fans for bringing this thread back to life. ^_^

I won't be able to turn in a WIP without having the song mostly done, since its going to have so many recorded elements. >_> I need to finish my acoustic solo album before Christmas so I can give it to family. Actually, Dan just finished mastering his album, and I'm talking to him about a possible collaboration after Wild Arms, so really, this might be the best time.
I could e-mail him and see if he'd be up for taking one of the open tracks...

Okay, poopie. I didn't get any notifications of this thread until the last post from Lunar. I don't know what's up with that. It's been happening a lot.
I wanna say BIG thanks to Kyle for bringing it up, Theophany for contacting the Dual Dragons and the Dual Dragons actually joining up!! This is awesome! =) It's dope what you guys do when I'm not around...this is totally helpful and I appreciate it.
Btw, dark green is "substantial WIP" meaning it has potential and it's near to completion. :P I have no doubt Rayza will be done. He has a solid idea and plus he's a vet. I don't need to worry about him and his work. As far as ilp0's track...it just needs mastering by bLiNd and it will be done. Jordan has just been busy finishing up his PC. He reformatted and etc... you all know what that means.

I may have actually had something if I didn't have a gig with my band tonight. ALL MY PLANS ARE RUINED!!!
I mean I can play the entire track on bass, and that was going to serve as my intro, and then I was gonna build on it from there, but I use my recording gear live....
Also, 3 weeks until the end of the semester.
Those are my excuses, and here is my apology for not having anything and not able to provide you with anything.

and I got some bad news... I am just learning these news too.
The preview track is gone. Forever....gone. And I was almost done too. I am so sad... You got no clue. I dedicated my whole Sunday working on it and all the editing was for nothing. NOTHING SAVED!!!!
GTAHater836
11-26-2009, 03:05 AM
So whoever was creating the preview(s) closed a program without saving it? I don't mind because...if you measure completion by individual tracks and how far along the WIPs are, it hardly amounts to 1/8 completion. I could live with waiting until 1/4 of the entire project was complete before hearing a previews.
JaDE ARaN HaRuNo
11-26-2009, 03:34 AM
Nah... The plan was to give a preview track out by Thanksgiving day. I have 30 tracks to preview which means that will be one long track. I rather do it every few months since this is a big project with 79+ songs.
I was the one working on the preview track, but I figured out that some songs were corrupted and a lot of songs weren't saved as my edit. Regardless - it doesn't matter now. I'm almost done with the thing again...I'm going to render it tonight so it should be out soon.
THIS IS FOR THE FANS, THE SUPPORTERS, THE ARTISTS - who all helped me make this come true. It's a way of thanks.

I imagined the sci-fi tracks (like Holy Mother of Darkness) would be more trance-driven, the magic/fantasy settings to be more epic overtures, and the west/olde tyme settings to be other genres (but not modern), but this is sounding good. PLEASE, video game and music gods and sciences! Let this one get an EXCELLENT reception!!!

Really killer preview :-D Some highlights would have to be Level 99, ilp0, Theophany, Joker, Hy Bound, VHD, Jovette, Rayza, and this mystery dude (or dudette?) at the beginning. That first song sounds REALLY professional!
Thanks for sharing, though! Which were the two tracks that got left off though? Maybe the first post needs to be updated, but I only see DJ Mokram not having a WIP in the preview track :?

bLiNd cannot provide anything yet because he is working/fixing his music PC. Just the other day his hard drive died so everything he did was for nothing (and he was almost done) so maybe he'll make the next preview track. Or I hope so.
As far as the other 2 WIPs that did not make it, I cannot reveal the other artist because I haven't had time to get back to them about their WIP. Dj Mokram asked nicely not to be apart of the first preview track because of his preference.

Oh no he... I'm going to give him hell for that.
Edit: hell was given (or more precisely, shit, since I forgot I was supposed to be giving), and he had a good reason. Can't force inspiration (only perspiration... ok, I'll stop). Plus he's a freaking remix factory anyway.

BTW, I'd like to give a try to "Omen of Ostracism", but I didn't find a midi file of the track. Can someone give me this midi track, if someone have it ? Thanks.

Ok, so I finally started playing the game today. so far, so good.. I adore the fact that the game doesn't change screens when you enter a house, and when it does change screens, there's pretty much no load time. I'm still getting used to the whole system though.

I am starting on mine today... just thought I'd let you know. But I have to find an mp3 of it first for reference so I'll do that now. :)
Also you can put me down for collabs,
vocals (clean / heavy),
6-string guitars (no whammy),
5-string bass,
acoustic,
recorder,
tambourine,
bongos,
live drums (currently only 3 mics though -- 2 overheads and 1 kick mic)
I'll personally be programming mine because I probably need double bass. Just so anyone who's interested, my kit is very dampened. I'm looking into picking up a 7-pack of drum mics and some new mic cables, we'll see how that goes but for the moment it's just 3 mics.
Working on The Cold Darkness (Dungeon)
But I have to find a psf of it first for reference so I'll do that now (http://therks.com/public/Wild_Arms_minipsf.rar).

Yes. (Probably not actually. It was good) S'like me wondering if I'm the only person who thinks the FF8 ost is comparatively weak to the rest of the series, sans II.
FFX had a really great soundtrack. I have my fingers crossed that one of the tracks bLiNd took was the Seymour Battle theme. That'd be a delicious combination right there.
Though my musical favorites of the series is IV and XII, and the latter of which isn't even Uematsu material. :O And probably won't see a project or much coverage. Boo.

To reply to everybody and Otaku,
I would have to agree with you and the others that FFVIII was weak in many areas and it definitely wasn't my favorite FF. I can't agree that it sucked because the story was very shocking and satisfiying to me. [SPOILER: The whole Squall and Rinoa who were destined to be together wouldn't have been born if Laguna and Julia would've been together.] There are a few songs I REALLY love from the soundtrack, but a lot of it lacked for the most part. Regardless, I would approve of any FF remix project in the future of OCR. =) FFV wasn't my favorite FF game either or soundtrack, but again, great tunes in that one too.
and I'm sorry to tell you, but Seymour Battle isn't Jordan's favorite on the soundtrack. =( Don't ask me why or how that is even possible... I think he's crazy. That's actually my favorite track on the soundtrack and the same for LuIzA. I actually wanna collab with her on that one. ^_^ It's too soon to tell though. It's also too soon to announce a huge project like FFX. That one is on a long hold.

to be very honest, I really didn't like FFVIII. So many weak stuff, and other than a few very good tracks on the OST, the rest of it is just... meh..
Also, FFVIII has one of the worst villains I've ever seen, as in plot and depth. For lack of anything else to do, I have to briefly jump to FF8's defense, as I seem to be just about the only person in the World who loves it. When I heard the OST, I hadn't yet played the game, and aside from a few tracks blowing me away (Liberi Fatali, of course), it was the first FF OST I'd heard that didn't do much for me.
I then played the game, and discovered it was important to reserve *all* judgement until one has finished Disc One...at least for me, that's where the atmosphere really started to come together, and I became hooked on the gameplay as well. The BGM, to me, fits *remarkably* well in the *context* of the game, and ever since, I've been a huge fan of the game and its soundtrack.
Also: it's the only video game ending that literally *never* fails to make me shed multiple tears.

I'm with Dan on this one. It's important to notice what a soundtrack can do for the game.
Many songs that purists here would consider lacking are effective in their original context.
And sure most FF osts are enjoyable on their own, even if you haven't played them.
FFVIII maybe has less popularity, but its soundtrack still contains some great tracks worth mentioning:
The landing, Succession of Witches, Lunatic Pandora & Fisherman's Horizon, come to mind instantly.
But in this case, I think it's really more a question of experience and memories of the game.
On another note, I'm a huge fan of Sakimoto/Matsuo, so FFXII would be my favorite pick.
That being said, wasn't this originally a WILD ARMS PROJECT THREAD?

yeah it has a fairly good gameplay, but I didn't find it astounding. The OST does indeed fit the atmosphere of the game, but there are only a few tracks that I really like as music by itself.... but even as BGM, other FFs did a better job IMO.
(I also didn't like the ending haha.. but then again, there aren't a lot of game endings I do like.)

Hey. I've been checking this thread alot.
Just thought I'd say that the Wild ARMs soundtrack is probably my favorite soundtrack. I used to listen to it religiously while practicing guitar for years. I used it as motivation...um, yeah. It's probably my favorite. Many hard drives crashed since I first got a hold of the soundtrack from zophar's domain all those years ago, but of course I always kept them safe on discs (psf files). I dig Alundra too.
Oh, and I'm still working on my track and possibly may tackle another, I'll see how the sessions go. I should have done a bit of research, but the guitar lead on I think the second or third song from the preview track sounded really great. i can't wait to hear the final product on that one. everybody else on the preview sounded amazing.
Sounds like some of my problems with FF7's OST :-( .
This is why I love my innate placing of superlative value on arrangement. God blessed me with good taste. (though yes FF7 stands out as a sore thumb with regard to soundfont selection... though that's also a bit time-and-place)
And no, FF8 was good. Not great, but good and underrated. It simply came in the wake of FF7. That's all that needs to be said. Well, that and the FF8 OST is the last FF OST that I decided to keep in its entirety on my hard drive. Also, going along with VHD: the application of motifs was well-done and uniting, story-wise. Though the game didn't quite live up to its predecessors (in my opinion), it was still musically fantastic. After all, what would I be without The Stage Is Set? A poorer man. (and the arranged version of The Man With The Machine Gun!)
And sorry, Jade, I regret to inform you that I won't likely be spamming your future FFX thread. The game had such potential, but it remains a posterboy for the repercussions faced if you don't have a passable protagonist.

yeah it has a fairly good gameplay, but I didn't find it astounding. The OST does indeed fit the atmosphere of the game, but there are only a few tracks that I really like as music by itself.... but even as BGM, other FFs did a better job IMO.
(I also didn't like the ending haha.. but then again, there aren't a lot of game endings I do like.)
Oh, yah..as I mentioned, I've long believed I'm just about the only person who feels as I do about FF8. I absolutely adore the gameplay, story, music (as I said, mostly in-context, but many of the pieces on their own too), ending (which I feel has an emotional punch that no other game ending I've seen has) and..just everything. I wouldn't necessarily put it "above" or "below" any other FF, as that's tough to do, but it's easily in my top 4 of the series. Anyway, I'm not at all surprised you feel that way, because that seems to be the majority, and I'm quite used to it xD

Wow I don't think you've expressed this to me. =) This is why I am doing it... to express the love for the soundtrack because it's so underrated. It needs attention.
And sorry, Jade, I regret to inform you that I won't likely be spamming your future FFX thread. The game had such potential, but it remains a posterboy for the repercussions faced if you don't have a passable protagonist.

It would have been a lot cooler if Tidus' voice had actually matured over time instead of being friggin whiny the whole game. That one voice over where he was actually not whining should have been his voice by the end :(

So yeah, current update to all the current artists on my project -
Not naming any names or projects, but I'm extremely upset right now about a specific situation. One artist has finished a track for another project that he just recently joined whereas he hasn't given me any sort of WIP or reply (after PMing him twice in the last few months). I will be getting in contact with that artist to see if he's still interested or not.
Please let me know now (and this goes to EVERYONE) if you aren't serious about giving me anything, you totally need to drop this project. I am also not afraid to drop people if you don't speak up now. I can give those tracks to other artists that ARE interested. Some even want to claim a 2nd or 3rd song which is totally kool too. I don't want to attack anyone or seem unfair, but it's unfair to me that other project directors receive WIPs when they're on the bottom of their list, let alone completed wavs. I'm not only speaking for my own project, but for the other ones that were WAY before me.

Thanks for understanding guys!
Jack van Burace was a model 16-bit protagonist. [WA1 plays far more like a SNES RPG than a PS1 RPG] Determined, fun-loving, caring, hilarious, and an all-around good guy. He wasn't as deep as characters have become since that time, but he still a solid, impactful backstory and a fleshed-out personality. However, I think the (nearly-)silent protagonist thing didn't work as well in WA1 than say CT because I was definitely playing as Jack, not Rudy. Which worked, however, because Jack was the freaking man.
And that's all I have to say because Thumper's mom told me to hush up.
Also because if I'm going to rant I should go all-out and make a thread about it Archaon-style. Of course, no comparison intended: Archaon is the undisputed king in that department.
Also, WIP it baby.

I just had a really cool idea on the way home today and a good map of what I'm going to try for the song displayed itself in my puny, human brain. You said the track was a villainous theme, a theme of people being killed.
What I would like, is for everyone who ever reads this, to record about 1 minute of the most painful screaming you can muster... Think "Hey, I'm being killed!" The more the better. I want to incorporate all these different tracks of dying screams into the song and feature all of these different people prominently for their deathly performance.
You don't have to be a mixer to do this. But it would be preferred if your recordings are of a good quality with no static, etc.
I hope you will allow me to do this Jade. :) Also I hope you and blind can scream a duet of pain. Of course it would be best if you recorded your parts separately. :)

Well I just started learning a new recording program.. I did sort of "start" on the song, but it's just like 20 seconds worth of figuring stuff out. With the new program I can write as I go, and I don't have to like, do it in pieces anymore. I should be able to get better sounds for my music now though, because I will actually be able to hear what I'm working on while I'm doing it!
But um... I was sort of hoping just everyone who passed through here would see it and volunteer. I don't know where to begin with pming people, I think people get annoyed with them :I

Hi. New song is 4:48 and is written, I'm recording some of the last guitar rhythms, then I'll do solo parts, bass, key elements...
There's 4 people who might be signed on for screams, including me, luke, Jade, and maybe blind? So I mean, that's a decent amount but I'd like to get a handful more people involved if possible. I'm going to try to ask a couple people but seriously, if you see this, please consider recording about a minute of anguished yells like if you're being killed. :)
Thanks

I'll admit that I'd really like to try for this, but it would be highly tentative for me currently.

320kbps MP3 is probably fine, I don't expect everyone to send a big ol' WAV file. It'll probably be 2 or 3mb for a minute of tortured yelling. I almost have the actual song done, I was just about to bring it down here and upload it for Jade to hear. I'm new to Cubase so I have yet to figure out how to do a highpass filter and stuff like that, so it's a bit thick. :(
I'm looking forward to all the screams from people! Feel free to email your mp3s to oinkness@gmail.com. Cyril and Biznut said they'd be interested on Irc, so this is going to be a pretty good turnout. I think even Hubbard said he'd try. I can't wait to hear what a sports announcer sounds like when he's being tortured. Not enough women though. Jade's going to have to record a few tracks to make up for it, and put on different voices. ;D
Oh, deadline... I don't think there is one. Just be comfortable I guess, you're not rushed, unless Jade says so!

Since this project started, I've had one deadline in mind, but I've wanted to keep that secret. The hint is in the deadlines themselves. I also don't want to announce that because it might not work out or it might release before....just depends on the artist's pace. I have been telling people lately the faster they give me tracks, the faster I can release their work aka project.
Brandon - the WIP sounds great, but it really does need those screams. =) I would ask Monobrow, Starla and LuIzA for female screams. See if they're interested.

The list is really colorful now! I AM receiving a shitload of WIPs. Progress is going very well. bLiNd won't (shouldn't) be providing anytime soon for this project which is acceptable because he has many tracks to do for other projects and his original work. Nekofrog is extremely busy with his marriage life and career, which is also very acceptable. I am willing to wait for these 2 remixers to supply their work. Same goes to FFmusic Dj, Rayza, McVaffe, & Stephen Kennedy. I'm unsure of Beatdrop's status, though. He might drop because he's working on his original album, but he hasn't gotten back to me. I'm also willing to wait for his work, but it's up to him. Everyone else - I'm waiting to hear back.

Alright..uhh..Don't know what to say here. Just wanted to voice my irrevocable support for this project, and, personally, I can't wait to hear the polished result.
I am curious about one thing, however: I see you're covering the Japanese ending credit sequence, but what about the English version? It's more of a personal thing for me, but that staff roll is one of the greatest compilations I've heard for a game. Have you thought about creating a mashup of songs like that for a preview video for the project? I know it's not Michiko Naruke, it's Chuck Doud, but IMO it's a much better song.
Just my two cents; I didn't really want to go through all 40+ pages looking for someone else to have mentioned it. Take it or leave it! I'm happy enough just seeing Battle Demon twice.

I'm sure JaDE would be more than willing to hear your two cents, however, it has been long since decided that she would go with the Japanese credit roll, it was her decision as director, it could be added to the bonus album if somebody really wanted to do it, but I highly doubt she's going to add it with the project as far as it is.

I'm sure JaDE would be more than willing to hear your two cents, however, it has been long since decided that she would go with the Japanese credit roll, it was her decision as director, it could be added to the bonus album if somebody really wanted to do it, but I highly doubt she's going to add it with the project as far as it is.
No doubt. I do realize it's a teensy-weensy bit too late for any kind of input, but I was just curious as to why it was overlooked, more than anything else, to be honest with you.

The English song has already been considered a while back and I have a plan for it - but it won't be announced yet. :)

Hey, I've got an idea, when you print up the album credits. You could put SIXTO SOUNDS OMFG and some less appreciated bastards
you can't deny that would be funny
What? Oinkness, you starting drama yet again on OCR?

I don't start drama, I start Visually-striking Classic Horror™

I have no idea what Oinkness is on about. Clarification desired.
EDIT: Clarification received. All I can say is get over yourself, Oinky.

I am getting really annoyed with all of the people who keep yelling drama. There's no drama, I just made a silly seinfeld-esque observation. Am I not spongeworthy? I am not jealous nor arrogant, I thought having someone's name larger than everyone's devalued their contribution. I'm a man of fairness. Well that's that. Anyone who has anything to ask or say feel free to contact me, in the meantime, thread derailed -- time to get back on topic. :)
And to everyone who keeps calling me Oinkness. Come on. I know it doesn't take that long to learn a new name.

You'll never live that one down, just like Luke never lived his original name down. Sorry Yash.

The anticipation I had for this project just skyrocketed out of control. Wild ARMs was the first OST I ever owned. In fact, it was the first album I ever owned, period. That said, the fact that you guys are putting so much effort into this project is incomprehensible. It made me actually try and get a few people together to attempt to record a version of the English credits, but if you have something planned I won't intrude. This is your thing, and I hope it succeeds beyond all expectations.
Good luck out there.

What ideas did you have in mind? Considering the English credits song is long, I actually wanted a few artists to work on it together as a massive collab. I won't name who yet, but any ideas or wanting to provide is excellent.

So uh, noone seems to be critiquing my WIP at all. Is the arrangement good? Should I keep going with it? Anything to mention production wise?
I mean, if it's just THAT bad, you can tell me. It won't hurt my feelings.

eh, I feel like the most misinformed person when it comes to this project, and I'm supposed to be on the staff...the only WIP's I've heard are Theophany's, and that's because he always asks my opinion of them before he submits them.

The only people that are supposed to hear all WIPs are Jordan and I technically.
