Haven't been this excited about a TMNT game since the golden era of Konami NES/SNES classics. Game Arts, known for the Grandia series and fresh off co-developing Smash Bros. Brawl, are handling this new TMNT game that will be extremely similar to the Smash Bros. series. If it has everything Brawl had, including a really cool storyline mode, solid gameplay, fun multiplayer and high replay value...then count me in! I just wish some developer/publisher would have the guts of basing games off the comics instead of the cartoons. Nonetheless, the new series are probably the closest to the comics so I don't mind.
Aside from the first NES game, Konami's handling of the Turtles were instant classics back in the NES/SNES/GB days, accumulating to the SNES' forth console installment and the best one, Turtles In Time. I was a huge fan of the Turtles and their games back then. Played them all and enjoyed the hell out of co-op with my brother. My highlights are TMNT III Manhattan Project, Turtles In Time of course, SNES Tournament Fighters, and Radical Rescue for the GB. The latter one was surprisingly the deepest one of all 'cause it had similarities to Metroid and Castlevania.
I REALLY hope they get it right this time. Ubi's only good contribution thus far is the port of the Arcade game on XBLA. The last batch of the TMNT games that handled the new cartoon and movie sucked badly, although some reviewers praised the GBA version of the movie-based game 'cause of its return-to-form.
So...any of you have fond memories with the TMNT games?
PS: waiting for a port of Turtles In Time on XBLA.
EDIT: Another tip that comes in the PR story is that this game is basically part of the celebration of the Turtles' 25th Anniversary. Judging from the screenshots as well, this game doesn't seem to be based off the newest cartoon exclusively. I REALLY hope that means we'll be seeing 25 years worth of characters in this game...from the comics, old cartoons, and new cartoons. Man, I'm getting excited now!

Awesome I love TMNT.
There was this one game (probably for the genesis) that I CAN NOT find anywhere <_<.. also cause I forget what it was called. It was a fighter one (you know, like street fighter or whatever), but the Turtles had Evil Counterparts. Man that game was pimp.. I wish I could find it again.

Wow. This is something I'll definitely try to follow the updates of.
I always get high hopes for these games though, and then am disappointed as I hear more.
Judgment anyone?
Funny. I just played Turtles in Time yesterday evening for the first time in years.

... was a much better game, though. The Genesis version of the fighter was painfully basic for a fighter of the time, and even though they did a decent job with the graphics, the Genesis could have done much better aurally, animation-wise, and gameplay-wise.
IMHO of course.

I remember reading about the new turtles game last month in Nintendo power- looked pretty cool, and i'll check it out. I was a total turtle maniac when I was a kid. :3
I hope that it's more than just a brawl clone, because SSB does it so well, but we'll see.

Even if it is just a Brawl clone, it will be a resounding win if it has proper online play.

I love the old TMNT era, but let the old dog die already. Games, TV shows, movies, all of them. The comic book was a crap-shoot that was never expected to make it big.

Wish I had thought of that crap shoot lol. I do agree though that some aspects of the Turtles need dropped or tweaked.
As for this game......won't hold my breathe. I do miss the side scrollers though. TMNT The Arcade game still rocks. Only game that I had Game Genie codes memorized. Also, my local Chuck E Cheese still have it there. Great times hahaha

I remember having the Donatello bed sheets when I was a kid and I still have a fighting staff that my dad gave me that resembles Donatello's.

Lol holy crap, my long lost twin!
I was actually using my TMNT bed sheets through high school, and I've ALWAYS been about Raph.
I hope this new TMNT game features the 'evil' April (grrrrowl). ;)

Nothing thus far. I looked around the official Turtles website and the official 25th Anniversary page, but none of them even reported the original announcement. Even Ubisoft's site doesn't have anything.

The art style is based on the original comics. Interesting. I dearly hope it's competitive, but the trailer seems geared towards a younger audience. Hmm...

The trailer seems to indicate that there are a lot of playable characters in the mix.
Also, the recent IGN interview sounds promising. Turns out GameArts isn't the only developer for this game. A bulk of Team Ninja are helping out as well. Ubisoft really did a good job in getting these awesome teams under one roof. They also don't want this game to be a cheap Smash clone.
I'm going to remain optimistic about this game. Can't wait for more details.

I really can't wait to fight as Splinter. He's always been my favorite. I've been a fan of the Turtles since the original animated film. I also really like the SNES Turtles VS fighting game, and I really like Turtles In Time. I really like almost all of the Turtles games - I've even beaten the original on NES.
Screw it, I'm playing Ninja Turtles right frikkin' now.

Same here! And holy balls, was that hard w/o a Game Genie (I beat it w/o one). That one jump in the sewers near the end...... where there is no room to jump......so hard......
I know there's a youtube vid of it somewhere, I'll have to dig it up.
On topic, I'm looking forward to this game big time. I'm sure once the gameplay footage rolls out it'll determine right then if its a day 0 pickup, or spend 0 on it.
The movie based TMNT for GBA was a kick ass beat 'em up. I challenge anyone to play the game and not constantly think of River City Ransom.

Not saying that it was all that bad, but let's be realistic, and hope it's not anywhere close to Tournament Fighters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles:_Tournament_Fighters) .

You are not alone. This was a favorite when I was a youngin'. It took me awhile to realize they used music from the TV show and that upped my appreciation for it.

Which one? There were three. The SNES one was probably one of the best fighters on the console.

Mid-90s, right? Remember that female turtle they tried to introduce in the show? :?
And I for one almost shouted for joy when I saw the old-style logo at the end of that trailer vid.
Also, moar love for TMNT the Arcade Game plz!

Yes! I loved brawlers/hack-n-slash games growing up; the TMNT and Final Fight arcade games were my favorites. Although these days, I'm not as much of a fan unless I'm playing it with someone else.
I still have to suspend my disbelief when I hear of folks who have beaten the first game for the NES, though. I mean, I know it's possible, but for how insanely difficult it was, it's hard to imagine. KF

Just played Turtles 2 for NES the other day (like I said I would). I tried beating the first Turtles last year, but I gave up after my frustration. I beat it when I was a kid though, and when the wind is blowing right, I will beat it again. It's a frikkin' hard game. Don't let Donatello die.

I AM -THIS- CLOSE to buying a TMNT Turtles in Time arcade machine. DEAD serious.
They're remarkably cheap too...
... I hope this game on the Wii will be decent... I'm not holding my breath though...

Ditto on the sheets and Raph. I think I still have a couple of sets of those TMNT sheets lying around in my closet somewhere.
I remember when I had my leg in a cast when I was 5 during Halloween, I was the only Raphael (or Ninja Turtle) out there on crutches, ohh yeah.
Have you seen the 2007 TMNT film yet? Raph has a pretty badass role in that.

When I was a wee boy I had three loves, and the Ninja Turtles was one of them. I had bedspreads/sheets, lunchboxes, thermoses, shirts, pajamas, watches, even red and green plastic TMNT tennis shoes, and of course, the video games. I loved all the NES Ninja Turtles games; yes, even the first one. But, I borrowed TMNT for gamecube from one of my friends a couple years ago, and I was sadly disappointed. Hopefully this game will be a return to the greatness of old?
As for my other two loves: Mario of course (I alternated regularly between my TMNT and Mario lunch boxes), and let's just say I still wanna be like Mike.
