YES! this got in, I hoped it did. I do like this one alot. Too much (#1 in a lot of my C.D.s). I do like Zero's theme a lot and this is good. I don't think this is THE remix of his theme song. I do like a lot ....Did I just say that? The voice is cool. The Z-saber strikes are a nice sound too.
DJP says it's good but I like to think of it as Zero's theme mix better the Proitcity Brainstick Metal (X's theme mix if you asked me). Very cool

Ah, Darkesword, one of my favorite musicians on the site. Totally digged the track, reminds me a lot of a song he did titled 'Legend of the Starfighter' Very sexy, gets me tappin' my foot. Great job.

The voices are from Rockman X4 as far as I can tell, from the in-game cutscenes. There's also in-game voice samples. The intro speech sounds like it's Dr Wily, and the others are Zero himself(Yes, I play far too much Megaman games for my own good)

I had on my playlist a way earlier version of this song. This one is a huge improvement over it, just so much more to it than the original but it's clear that it's an evolution of it. I am a mega man fan, but not that hard core as to know the voices, just freaking awesome that the original 3 of the X series have Remixes now. This remix is quite enjoyable and worth listening to for the techno and decent use of elements. I like.

Nothing sticks out in this song to make me remember it. Label this song, generic techno 01

While this does seem a bit generic, it also stands out in that it's also original (in my experience) in it's good use of the sounds and voices. Good start, good middle (great middle if you enjoy the sounds enacting a battle), good end. I'm no judge but I think some of you are underrating this a bit. Definitely staying on my playlist for a while. 8)

Okay, here's the deal. This is, by far, NOT my best work. However, I still enjoyed working on this mix a lot. It was over a year in the making (on and off), and I think it came out nicely.

Here's the voice breakdown. The opening voice is Wily from X6 talking about how Zero is his greatest robot or something. All of the other voice samples of the guy you hear are Zero in X4, from various cutscenes.

In response to others in the thread, yeah it's generic techno, but you're talking to the guy who has THE MOST generic techno song on the site (Gundam Wing Endless Duel).

As for the comparison to Prot's Brainsick Metal, don't even compare please. This mix doesn't attain the same level as an awesome mix like that.

Anyway this mix was mostly for the MM fans out there, so I hope that they, if anyone, enjoy it.

To answer the question about the voices, here's a quote from the mixer himself, DarkeSword:

The opening voice is Dr. Wily, saying something to the effect of Zero being his greatest robot. All of the other voice clips are of Zero from the MMX4 cutscenes. The SFX breakdown in the middle consists of SFX from MMX6.

Anyway, yeah, I love this song. Great blending of the themes, and great usage of the voice clips and SFX. Awesome.

EDIT: Aw, I thought I'd be able to absolutely confirm it before he had to come here himself... Damn, I was too slow. But that's what happens when you leave the computer in the middle of a post. Oh well, a double confirmation it is, then.

We have an X2 remix...and it's.....ABOUT....FUCKING.....TIME! Not only is it a great remix, It's a compilation of the themes of the greatest character in MM history. This mix rocks. My only problem with it is that it's too short and could have been a bit heavier and inclusive of a more reverant trancy beat seeing as Zero was always more mysterious than out front.

Overall score: 8.3 mass excellence!

It's about time someone remixed a song from Megaman X2!! The Japanese Vocals are interesting as is the intergrations of the Zero Themes from Megaman X and Megaman X3. The Beat is nice which makes this a pretty good song to play at your School Dance or a party or something.

I have to agree with the dude that said this was generic techno01, well, it is.

Very much so.

Best work or not, why doesn't Darke finish that MMZ2 song. It's fifty times more interesting than this cut-paste generic techno thingy.

Wow, this is pretty good, especially with the use of the zero's orignal theme from MMX, and making a solo out of all in game SFX. Good work.

DarkeSword... I was a fan of the first version of this mix, and although it's still very much the same mix as before, I LOVE what you've done with this. The SFX you use are great and not only go with the techno, but also brings me back to the days where I would beat the game from start to finish a few times every day... This song was my favorite in MMX2, and I would fight against Zero and beat the game just to hear this song, it was great. What you've done with it makes it so much better. Mixing in the MMX theme for Zero, as well as those voices is just great. I must ask, though you certainly don't need to answer, where did you find voice samples for Zero? Are the from RMZ, or are they from the MMX anime? Or even somewhere else? I think they're great and really add to the mix. Damn, that one little battle section sounds great... It goes perfectly with the beat (as you made it do, obciously :P), and it sounds freaking awesome, it makes me want to play through the game and fight against Zero (or watch him destroy his pitiful clone, though fighting him is a lot more fun ;)). Thanks for spending the time to improve this mix, I had no problems with the original, but this one is even better...

And I must say a techno mix of this song is very fitting, especially due to how short the original theme actually is. You've done an incredible job at adding a lot of variation and flavor to the song. Congrats on a job well done. :)

Edit: For those of you who are saying this is cut and paste techno... Well, even if it is, this song is about a year old, and if you are familiar with the source material he's working with, not to mention mixing itself, you will know how difficult it is to make something that's less than 10 seconds long into a 4 minute mix. Give Darke the credit he deserves instead of bitching about why he's working on an old project. I commend his ability to see this thing through, it's taken a while, but he finished it, and it sounds good.

Although I really like the RMZ2 mix (I listened to it at least for 2 days straight when I got the first version), and I hope he finishes that one as well, I'm glad Darke finished this mix, the original song has a special place in my memory, and this remix does the song justice. I'd even go so far as to say that this remix is at least 10x better than the original.

Thanks for sharing this mix with us, Darke. Don't let those ungrateful bastages pull you down. ;) :P

Good luck on your future mixes, and I can't wait to hear what you make next! :)

2nd Edit: Disregard my question of the voices... I just read about them... :P

Sometimes I wonder what the judges panel is smoking. This is a fantastic mix, not to mention the first X2 mix.

There is nothing wrong with this mix, makes me want to break out X2 and start playing again.

All techno is generic guys, you either like it or you dont. I have never heard any "revolutionary" techno. As for this song, this has a eurobeat sound to it, something kinda like outta Initial-D anime.

I like it a lot, its one of my top 10 from this site.

Good job, Darkesword.

I agree with this, I have the actual BGM,but I wasn't overly impressed with it. Mostly due to the, in my opinion, better themes for Zero from X3 and X4. Yet this remix melds all the themes of from the pre-playstaion zero, into one catchy tune.

Kinda makes me wish I had gotten the chance to finish X2

It's good though, definitely worth listening to if you haven't already.

It's ironic that this mix was so debated by the panel because it would be accepted in an instant if it were submitted by anyone besides a judge. Although I don't necessarily disagree with their holding their own to higher standards, I don't think you can do much more with a techno mix like this than has already been done...good voice integration, solid transitions, an all-around good piece. Sure it's not the best, and Shariq has a ton of great mixes on the site, but especially considering that it's the first X2 mix, I don't see why it shouldn't have been a unanimous decision. There really is no such thing as a "perfect" techno mix, but this one is certainly better than others.

I don't respond back to many remixes, mostly because I think that most are good enough. A piece can't really be that bad, especially not if the person has some musical talent and a good idea of how to give the original beat a good pulse. However, after hearing this piece, I must say that its not bad. It really brings out the emotions of MegaMan. I think it covers almost everything a techno should cover. The orginial meloday along an added mix of chimes in the back. Overall, this piece is one fast paced techno funk song. Excellent Job Darkesword. I look foward to hearing more of your pieces.

I really don't understand what has happened to most of the judges around here, this peice is wonderful! These songs needed to be mixed long beforehis FIRST version came out, which was moderatly good, but he revamps it to a far superior level and you make it seem as though it's a peice of *beep*. The recently added so-called "Jazz" mix of Megaman 3's intro theme was IMO a wad of the above mentioned, yet it seems to get more praise than this great peice of techno which greatly captures the essence of all three themes and even finds a way to play them at the same time and make it seem as if it was SUPPOSED to be that way from the start! Whatever happened to the days of "Brainsick Metal" and "Metalman Stainless Steel"? Mixes like those don't seem to get enough credit ofr being smack-down face melting rock! I realize this isnt rock, but I hope you know what I mean...maybe I'm reading too much into this.

I liked it, but not enough to add it to my permanent playlist. Mostly because during the XvZ theme that plays throughout the song, they missed a secondary note which really, REALLY started to bug me. Mostly because that song was pounded in to my brain by a ten minute stalemate of fighting zero in X2. Did I mention that X2 is my favorite megaman game, ever?

Zerbo: Brainsick is one of my favorite OCremixes ever. In fact, I would say it's in my top ten favorite songs ever.

This really does capture the meaning of MegaMan games...I've played the newer X7, and the synths used sound very very familliar...That's why it sounds so much like MegaMan, because the original composers wanted it to sound this way. Well Done.

This is it people, I have always loved video gaming and the society therein, but when I found this site, my heart stopped. The first thing I did was hunt down music in mega man titles, specifically the X series. This was the third remix I downloaded and it's still my fav after at least 50 other mixes. DarkeSword this is truly how a mix should sound, I could hum along as I knew the track, you didnt change it, you improved it. And the voiceovers nearly made me piss my pants. They arent from that particular title but they fit in just fine. Currently addicted to Resident Evil 4 and the anime Full Metal Alchemist. My email adress is Chaotix_0@yahoo.com if anyone wants to email me.

What person who listens to ocremixes isnt a gamer, and what gamer hasn't played an SNES, and what snes didn't have at least one MegaManX Title. You all know the edgey techno mega sound, and if you don't love it then there's something wrong with you. This was the first mix I ever downloaded. At school I'd always use media player to search for game songs, and it always said source: ocremix, so one day I went there and dled my fav song, and to this day its still my fav. Powerful distinct tracks that come together to form this mix, and you better love every minute of it. every 4 measures or so you will notice one of the tracks change a little and then right when ur feeling it, some off the wall lyrics will make your head spin, right before a kicking fast ending, and then you take a breath. DOWNLOAD THIS NOW!

I'm bored, so I'm writing reviews for some OC Remixes. So without further ado, here we go. :)

Disclaimer: This review is my OPINION. You are free to agree or disagree, but flaming is unacceptable

Remix: OCR01235 - Mega Man X2 Beamsabre Beat ZEROv2
ReMixer: DarkeSword
iTunes Playlist: Mega Man OC Remix

Musical/Mechanical Factor: 8/10
Musically, this piece is pretty good. The layovers of the different songs really stuck out in my mind; they all fell together and worked nicely. However, some of the transitions seemed pasted together and didn't seem to fit together perfectly.

Beat/Rhythm Factor: 7/10
The beat fits the music quite well, and I must say it's rather catchy. On the other hand, it's simplistic and repetitive. It's not extremely strong and doesn't seem to stick out in any special place. All it does is keep the beat going at the same speed, which is sufficient, but not extraordinary.

Originality Factor: 8/10
I especially liked the part at 1:50 with the sound effects and voice overs. In addition, I liked the laying over of the different tracks from X1 to X3. They fit together nicely and I say they sounded good together.

True to the Original Factor: 9/10
Song designs were correct and nothing was altered. It seems that song speeds were drastically altered just to make them fit with each other, which is why it got -1 point.

Freakin' Sweet Factor: 10/10
I really had a lot of fun listening to this song. Even though it's rather simple, it's got a good beat beneath it. It's easy to listen to and quite catchy.

Overall: 42/50
Pretty cool song. Megaman X fans will most likely dig the beat and the fact that it's a Zero-based song. Non-X fans may or may not like it as much, but it's a well-put-together song. This is one of my favorite Megaman Remixes and it's definitely worth every second of downloading. If you're on 56k and you're intent on making the most of your time, this is definitely a song to get.

OH SNAPPITY CRAP WHAT A GREAT REMIX! 8O

At first I didn't get those voice samples in the beginning, then it hit me that it might not be english they're talking. Still sounds something that would come from an anime though. About the music, simply great. This is awesome techno that makes you wanna go down on the floor and breakdance. Unfortunately I don't know how to do, so I'll just picture it in my mind.

Every single instruments fits perfectly, I cannot do more than say excellent work and then continue to memorize this remix. It's rocking!

OK! This is my first review so i'll make it good......I hope.

This is hands down my favorite Megeman X series remix! The song is well done and its a great techno song. I especially like the voice clips(im guessing they are from the japanese version of Megaman X2). I especially like the middle ones with the battle sounds. This remix has a great beat to it and I enjoy it over and over again. DarkeSword I comend you on this great remix. I have 4 of your remixs and love them all so keep up the good work!

ok first off. this is fight music for video gamers.
i don't care that the synths are more generic. although it would be awesome to do an updated cover on this with very different synths.

My real question for darkesword is:

where did you get the voice samples?

Myself and another WIP-er at ocr are trying to get together sources and i was wondering if you supply me with some side effects to incorporate into our collab. not expecting to get a pass but would like to explore some interesting techniques.

Hmmmm.....
I don't think the vocal samples are used to full effect here; they should have either been better placed or not used at all. I mean how it currently is isn't terrible, but they aren't being used to maximum effect.

My real question for darkesword is:

where did you get the voice samples?

I have to admit I'm curious too.

At first I was pretty iffy on this mix, but the more I listen to this the more I like it. It's peppy, catchy, and highly smooth.
Definitely recommended.

I'm slightly surprised that this is knocked as much as it is. The FX and voices samples seem fine to me and add a little more to the piece. A reploid like Zero should be heard. I will agree that it is a little generic when it comes to the techno side, but it retains the epic sounding second theme of Zero and expands on that by adding his first (and in my opinion, more theme-like) theme. Very nice.

Surprisingly, I like this a lot. The comments for this one negate to mention that there actually is a decent amount of arrangement going on beneath the 'generic' techno structure of the mix.
I actually disagree that this has a generic sound, because for me generic indicates that something was sacrificed in order to stay conservative with the sound choices. I don't believe that's the case, especially since this is a revised edition.
What's here is quite standard techno, but in no way is that a drawback. It supports the melodies quite suitably and it allows for an energetic arrangement. I will say though that the drums are unremarkable and the whole low-tone choir with xylophone thing is a little worn out on me (must be those thousands of hours of Goldeneye multiplayer).
But hey, this is still way above the usual techno fare. Much more melodic than generic.

Ah, Zero. One of my favorite video game characters. I loved Zero's Theme from Mega Man X (...okay I heard it in Mega Man Xtreme), and this track made me appreciate Zero's Theme in MMX2 and MMX3.

Darkesword gave the source proper justice. The intro was a little too soft, but it quickly transitioned into one of my favorite tracks. I loved the SFX spree of the buster shots and sabre swipes.

This track... it's a perfect combination of Zero's themes from the first 3 X games. They flow fluidly together in a mix that captures Zero's essence quite well; the usage of sound effects and Japanese voice clips further solidifies this. This is another mix that I love; wonderful job here. :D
