View Full Version : Open letter to the judges

An open letter to the Judges' Panel, Head Submissions Evaluator Liontamer and Judges Another Soundscape and Palpable excepted from parts of the letter.
Dear Judges,
You may have found Your task intimidating, the public unappreciative of Your efforts, Your critics abundant and Your supporters few. Perhaps the direct posts and the ever-increasing "to be posted"-queue make Your task seem meaningless, or the rapid flow of new submissions overwhelming. I would not be surprised if Your conscience made you reluctant to reject further submissions.
It would also not surprise me if You find Yourself jealous of the adoration fellow Judges Another Soundscape and Palpable receive, or the robotic persistance by which they and especially Head Submissions Evaluator Liontamer judge and reject with little commotion whereas You may feel You are vilified at the first utterance of Your vote or critique. Perhaps You have come to fear the angry mobs of the community and are therefor reluctant, even frantically opposed to reject a submission. That would explain why Your votes seldom appear in the Decision threads of rejections.
The reason I'm writing this to You is that I wish to tell You that what You were appointed to do is not solely reviled, nor does it go unappreciated. Your work is looked upon by remixers awaiting their submissions to be evaluated — be those submissions accepted or not — as a step for them to improve as artists.
I wish You the best as You resume Your task. You are important.
Kind regards,
Rozovian

There are workings on the backend that y'all don't know about.
All you need to know for now is, despite the understandable tendency to fret, things will get better.

Why did he capitalize the pronouns referring to the judges? I though you were only supposed to do that for God.

Not always. From what I've seen, only capital "Him" is used for God. Other pronouns can be capatilized for extreme formality or for a blast to the past (colonial era, I believe).
Unless I am mistaken, of course. But I've seen pronouns capatilized before.

Honestly, it depends on what denomination you ask. It's not a sticking point for any of them, but some folks choose to capitalize any word that's being used to refer to God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. So even if they talk about "The Rock of my salvation" or something, "Rock" is capitalized because it's the description of God in that particular instance.

The joke is not funny if I have to explain it.
btw... It's a joke.
With a serious point, or several, behind it.
Larry seemed to get it. Skryp got it also. Kyle too. Darke and The Vagrance apparently didn't... tho I don't mind if it has the effect Vagrance seems to think I intended for it to have. Native Jovian got hung up on capitalization lol. :D Didn't see that one coming.

Sice we're not doing anything the judgehate has subsided. They can't hate on votes when there are none!

Oh please; they can hate on you procrastinating so long when you know you're just gonna 'NO' it anyways.

True, from now on all submitted remixes are automatically NO'd. Thank DragonAvengar!

If I submitted something today and it was eventually passed by the panel, it still wouldn't be posted until 2010, judging from the submission dates of some of the non-resubs in the tbp queue. I'd put more or equal blame for that on djp though. I wonder if he'll ever step down from doing a writeup for every posted mix.

I thought that had been the policy since at least sometime in 2005.

You try managing the biggest video game arrangement site on the internet in your free-time without getting paid with a selected few maintaining quality control without getting paid in THEIR free-time. Not the easiest thing, I'm sure.
I thought that had been the policy since at least sometime in 2005.
We took that policy out of effect when we decided to not vote at all but this seems like a good time to bring it back.

I didn't say it was easy. I was just wondering whether he'll ever have enough of it. If I had something that demanded this much of my time and that this many people depended on me doing well I'd probably crumble completely under the pressure on myself I'd build up. And it's not like his workload is going to decrease anytime soon either.
At some point, he decided he wasn't going to be able to evaulate all of the songs on his own, and so he created the judges panel and he saw that it was good. Delegating the writeups as well would probably feel like a huge failure for him, as would letting someone else do most of the coding of the website. I'm just wondering how long he'll be able to do it on his own.

Yeah, in fact, OCR will close down June 2009. It's been a good run. :nicework:
I don't think anyone realizes how much Dave is working on OCR in the background. That he still wants to write a write-up is obvious, it's basically his only communication with the site members and privelege as the creator. So, my point being: he can't post new mixes every day (even though he'd want to) to keep OCR alive and progressing because he's busy keeping OCR alive and progressing.

You're right, it's difficult for someone on the outside to see how much work djp puts into this place, other than the writeups.
it's basically his only communication with the site membersMaybe he should post in the forums more???

I think that if (hopefully when) he delegates the write-ups to other people, he could still maintain a connection to the community by having a site/development blog that he can just update at his leisure. It'd let him keep everyone apprised of any progress (in as much detail as he wants) without the additional pressure of meeting a weekly posting quota.

That's what I suggested in another thread...only response was a punch in the throat T-T

Yeah, I'm kind of against that, seeing as getting a write-up from DJP himself is supposed to be one of the perks of getting posted. I really don't care anymore how much longer it'll take to get my songs posted, I just don't want an out-sourced write-up for it :P
Also holy shit, how whiny are you, hoboka? How you can interpret DSes response as a 'punch in the throat' is beyond me.
