(Hmm... it's a rainy Thursday... time to shake things up!)
Most of us, at one time or another, have violated the unwritten commandments of gaming. You know, "Thou shalt not cheat", "Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break", "Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be" (Bayou Billy and The Cheetahmen excluded from that last one, of course).
So what do we do to relieve our guilt? Those dark secrets have burdened our souls for too long, I say!
It's time for some group therapy. I'll start this off.
Hi, my name's glasfen, and I got to the Northern Crater in Final Fantasy VII but didn't finish the game.

I made it to Ultimecia in FF VIII but never finished the game. I was underpowered and kept losing to Griever.
Also FF related, X is the first and only FF I ever completed, despite owning legit copies of all the other ones.

X is the first and only FF I ever completed.
Never beaten Mario 1, 2 and 3.
I never played any FF game. Who cares? I know I don't!

Um... I wasn't quite expecting this request, but
I. Thou shalt not cheat.
II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort.
III. Thou shalt not disrespect the system of another while secretly desiring it.
IV. Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break.
V. Thou shalt not steal lives or items in a two-player game.
VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth.
VII. Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be.
VIII. Thou shalt watch quietly as others attempt the most simple and mundane levels, battles, or puzzles and not shout out the obvious method of completing them.
As I recall, these were first promulgated during the 8-bit era, yielding one for each bit. Of course, there are slight differences among users of different systems, but, for the most part, they tend to agree.
(thanks, Overflow. But now they are not unwritten commandments! What have I done?!)
Here's another of mine: I had to use a Game Genie to beat Zelda II
I don't feel guilty for not playing no crud! I am a free man!

I used a Gameshark to [insert verb for 'beat'] Star Fox 64.
Also there are a million games I haven't played (including but not limited to any Street Fighter game, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Final Fantasy 1-3, 5&6, and 8-13, etc.)

Um... I wasn't quite expecting this request, but
i'm not deserving of having the moniker gamer in my screen name ;_;
I. Thou shalt not cheat.
Used GameShark to get all gold medals in Star Fox 64
Used GS/glitch for inifinte gold in Ogre Battle 64
Used Action Replay to finish Contra: Shattered Soldier
Chronically abused save states in emus.
II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort.
I used guides all the time during my N64 days. Most notably, in Majora's Mask so I could get all the masks in my first playthrough.
IV. Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break.
It's their break, not mine. Why hold up the game just for one person http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/117505/img/Smilies/emot-colbert.gif
V. Thou shalt not steal lives or items in a two-player game.
I bummed lives off of my cousin when we played Contra: SS, but he had infinite lives, so it's all good.
VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth.
Only finished like 30% of my game collection
VIII. Thou shalt watch quietly as others attempt the most simple and mundane levels, battles, or puzzles and not shout out the obvious method of completing them.
The main reason I hate watching other people play.

you too, eh? I mean, i saw my friends beat sephiroth and I saw the ending, so i was just like "well, what's the point?"
Anyway as a kid I lived off Game Genie. I've never played a castlevania, megaman, or starfox game (smash bros excluded), and I am on gamefaqs much more often than i care to admit to. I know there are a good few games that I started and haven't finished, and when i was a kid i was throwing that controller all OVER the place.

I got to Ultimecia herself back when the game came out and just... turned it off mid-battle. I wasn't losing or anything, I just... didn't care. I had put up with the game for so long, hoping it would suddenly get better, and it never did.
So I just turned it off at Ultimecia and never even bothered trying to beat it.
Such an awful, terrible game.

I don't even know where to start on breaking game commandments. I'll try to summarize the best ones
1. I'll admit that I've rarely used cheat codes before beating the game. There were a couple games, like Ages of Empires 2, where I couldn't resist myself though. Free resources beats the hell out of having to sit and mine them for an hour.
2. Actually, I've never used a walkthrough unless I was inescapably stuck. Some of the older generation games have moments where they leave you hanging, and Majora's Mask especially was notorious for those.
4. Used to do that all the time to my friends when they walked out, and then I'd try to get them back into the same spot and pause it where they were so they wouldn't notice. As an extension of that, there were a lot of FPS games where I'd unpause the game and then try to find where they were hiding. Goldeneye was great, because you could throw a bunch of remote mines around them and kill them as soon as they got back and unpaused.
6. I don't think anyone is not guilty of this at some point in their gaming careers. For some reason or another, you'll walk away from a game and not pick it up for years, or your save data will get corrupted, or you'll lose your memory card. All those have happened to me, and there are a couple games I still haven't finished. One particular instance was Illusion of Gaia. I didn't pick that game up and finish it for ten years because I rented it back for the SNES and never saw it again until it was on an emulator.
7. If tossing a GBA counts, I'm guilty of at least three counts of this. A PS2 controller was sacrificed for the third one. Stupid Soul Calibur...
8. I can't keep my mouth shut. It's just so damned painful to watch people struggle with the most foolishly easy puzzles. Things that we as veteran gamers take for granted as being natural gameplay, other people seem to require massive amounts of concentration to apply for five minutes. Isn't it obvious the box goes on the switch? Why do you not see the door you've passed five times and never gone in? If someone's playing a game, I usually go and find something that will absorb my attention so I can't point out their horrible flaws to them

I made it to Ultimecia in FF VIII but never finished the game. I was underpowered and kept losing to Griever.
This is what happened to me when I first played the game.
I've been replaying it during spring break though, and I've been DESTROYING the game this time.
So far the only challenging boss has been Bahamut and that's because Squall and one other party member were already critical. Ultima Weapon was a joke though for some reason. (I just beat the shit out of Adel in five turns tonight, just to tell you where I am)

It always bugged me (for those of you that played and beat Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, with the Black Knight, Ike, etc etc...) that I completed the game without getting all of the characters.
Since after the game has been completed once, y'know, you unlock a gallery of concept art of each playable character...

I used a Gameshark to max out all my allies' likeness in Vanguard Bandits so I've seen every ending except bad ending, that's ironically easiest to get. I also stumbled across spoilers for Star Ocean: TTEOT when I started it and had no desire to finish, the same thing happened when I had the last bit of FFVIII shown to me when I was on disc 4, AND in FFX after I'd gotten to Zanarkand (which pissed me off, since I'd been really liking the game before that and just got turned kinda 'urgh' on it for something that wasn't even a result of getting sick of it or anything (since I hadn't/haven't).Oh, and hard as it is to believe, I just can not find Super Metroid that good, really, liked Castlevania Circle of the Moon or Aria of Sorrow better.
But yeah...I haven't beaten Super Mario Bros 1-3. Really, only one of those platformer Mario games I've beaten is Super Mario World. Sad, I know.

I did use the game-genie to beat that horrible Simpson game on the NES.
And the action-replay actually allowed me to be able to play Lufia Fortress of Doom on the snes.
But I couldn't even save, so I had to play it non-stop all day long... I'll never forget that.
I didn't finished FFVIII the first time either.
I hated the fact that after spending countless hours leveling up characters, you just ended up unequipped and powerless in the castle.
But I did finish FFVII... in japanese.
More recently, I remember helping a friend get started at Biohazard 4... I ended up being the human walkthrough.
To the point where he couldn't open the next door without asking for my advice beforehand.

I played pretty much all the way through FFVI, but stopped right before the Very Definitely Final Dungeon.
I beat Earthbound on my second attempt. It couldn't quite hold my interest on the first try. I never finished Mother 3 though. Something about emulators, I donno.
Never played a Mega Man game!
Although I am proud to say I have never hucked a controller across the room in rage.
EDIT: Also, I was careless enough to lose my Mario Paint mouse. That game was MAGICAL.

Exactly. But I didn't get that first time. When I replayed it I made camp in the 2 Islands (Closest To Heaven and Hell) and I leveled up like crazy.
I spend some time getting good cards on triple triad, and flip them for Holy War & such. Crushed Omega Weapons & Ultmecia/Griever without effort.
Wasn't fun, but finally I got to see the ending.

I. Thou shalt not cheat.
Emulator savestates, cheat codes and the konami codes, the 3 cardinal sins of cheating. I've been guilty.
II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort.
I tend to use them sparingly, however in an obscure game or a game that I want to destroy, I go for it.
III. Thou shalt not disrespect the system of another while secretly desiring it.
SEGA SUCKS (but I did like sonic...)
IV. Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break.
Not guilty
V. Thou shalt not steal lives or items in a two-player game.
Half the fun of the game.
VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth.
Hmmm I have about 3 or 4 exceptions to that, otherwise I do finish my games.
VII. Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be.
Never gonna happen, I rarely lose my patience, even when playing Kaizo Mario.
VIII. Thou shalt watch quietly as others attempt the most simple and mundane levels, battles, or puzzles and not shout out the obvious method of completing them.
Fuck that, they need me, just hand me the controller, it's kinda obvious but I can't explain it.

Well, I've never finished FFIV myself. It was a great game and all, but I got stuck in what I suppose was the final dungeon, where Omega Weapon was. I couldn't beat him, and I couldn't find any other way to proceed. Now I've lost the savefile.
Contrary to earlier posters, I really enjoyed FFVIII and have played through it twice.

I. Thou shalt not cheat.
I generally use cheats for lulz value rather than actually to beat a game. For example: I used to have most of the push-button codes for GTAII and Vice City memorized. Fill up weapons and health/armor, turn on flying cars, spawn a tank, and go to town... but never during an actual mission! I don't even own any cheating devices other than the Game Genie way back for the original NES.
The only big exception was FFX. Holy crap I hated the sphere grid. There was no real way to judge the relative level of your characters -- it was hard to know who needed to be switched into battle in order to level them up. So I didn't bother. My party was Auron, Lulu, and Yuna (providing melee, black magic, and white magic respectively) for essentially the entire game. So when I got tossed into one section near the end of the game where you had to use Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku (because it was underwater)... I got destroyed. Pretty much every random battle was equivalent to a boss fight, but I couldn't use white magic because Yuna wasn't around, and I didn't have enough healing items to keep it up. I was completely stuck; I couldn't have gone on without either a) restarting the game and making sure my watery-people were leveled high enough, or b) cheating. I borrowed someone's cheatery-device (I can't even remember what kind it was...) and gave myself infinite spheres and sphere levels long enough to boost my people into not-complete-suckitude and finished out the game.
VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth.
Oh man. I'm terrible at this. For a few games, like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, I've gotten the the final boss/dungeon but then got steamrolled (because I'm usually chronically underleveled in RPGs) and didn't have the patience to grind up to the point where I could beat the game. For a handful more, like Fire Emblem, I've gotten a significant portion through the game but got distracted/frustrated/whatever and stopped playing for some reason or other. Then there's some, like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Pokemon Sapphire, or Dead Rising, where I played for a little bit at the very beginning but never really got into it and just stopped playing. I've got a bunch of games I haven't beaten...

I used to be very patient with games back when I didn't actually pay for them with my own earned cash. Nowadays, if I get a game that sucks hard ones that cost me a decent amount of money (and uses a controller), the controller will fly across the room at least once in a fit of frustration. Handhelds get amnesty for being such troopers.
I'm a terrible horrible no-good person =/

I often turned to a guide to beat Hotel Dusk. I'm just no good at these adventurin' games, especially when they distract you early on with like 4 separate plots (how am I supposed to think to put chalk in the pen's engraving?!). Also, after losing to and pissing off several people in the hotel and thus getting game overs, I went through the guide to pick the "right" answers so that I could avoid game overs and end up repeating a section of the story all over again.
SpanishFly
03-20-2009, 03:44 PM
Yeah, I'd heard Hotel Dusk is kind of like that. Though, I'm guilty of hoarding spheres from that one early fight in FFX where you can just sit there for hours and get 99 without problem. But if it's any redemption, I stopped before 30, lol.
As much as I love being a gamer, I just HAVE to join in on this one.
* I've never used cheat codes since the days of the Genesis, and never used an Action replay or similar device. But I DID abuse save states when I discovered emulation, but since my skills grew I used them a lot less. The last time I had to rely on them, shockingly enough, was trying to beat Pluto in the PS1 version of Tales of Phantasia.
* Disrespect of another system happened a lot back in the day too, or at least before I even had a Wii. Being a Sega/Sony kid, I wanted nothing to do with Nintendo and had completely no understanding on why Mario was so popular, therefore bashing it like there's no tomorrow. Though, I secretly hoped for an N64 just so I can play Banjo-Kazooie... >.>
* Typically, I DO finish what I begin, but there are TWO replays of Kingdom Hearts 1 that I completely gave up on in favor of other endeavours. Both instances were indeed at Hollow Bastion.
* I had to watch one of my cousins play through the last boss on Tomb Raider Legend and figure out everything, though my inner-thoughts regarding what should be done came more naturally. And when she DID find out what to do, she got bored when she was half-done. Buh?
And that's about it :<
Sag Ee Mana
03-20-2009, 04:56 PM
I am Sag Ee Mana and...
I liked to cheat with the ACTION REPLAY when it was possible to search ourselves for the codes... It was on the SNES and a little on the PS.
Ex : Playing Super Probotector (Contra) in the hardest mode with a friend and both being immortal was really fun.
The Konami code was like a drug for me, so when Parodius came, I was trying to find the good "new" one : mirror method, or L/R instead of left/right, and I found it mwa ha ha ha :D I am evil !!!
When I got a PC, the "save slate" for MAME and SNES emulation was the moment for me to finish all of these game I found too hard. I'm thinking about arcade game where we can put an extra coin during a boss fight in order to get it lose more life until we can kill him and see the credits.
Otherwise, about things done without cheating, there are also the Playstation FF games... I've never beaten the 4th disc of FF8, never finished FF10, and you know what ? I've never finished myself FF7, even if I know 90% of the game, because it was a good friend of mine who played it and not me ^^''. But now, since 1 week, every evening, I'm playing it on my psp (yeah I converted the psx game) so one day I'll be able to say that I've beaten myself the game <3

I think it's a fear of this which kepts me from beating FFVII, Earthbound, and Dragon Quest Swords.
* Disrespect of another system happened a lot back in the day too, or at least before I even had a Wii. Being a Sega/Sony kid, I wanted nothing to do with Nintendo
I used to hate the Sega commercials which contrasted the number of titles for Nintendo and Sega. "But all those games stink!" I used to shout.
I still haven't beaten Blaster Master.
That game is ridiculous. I get so lost and then get destroyed by the swamp boss.
Here are a few more of mine:
I liked FFVIII (which I beat) better than FFVII
I gave up on Metroid Prime III (deleted my file, even) when I found out that there was a "protect the people" section of the game. What's the point of that? I'm the hero! Everybody else get out of my way! Stupid Galactic Marines...
And my brothers and I used to wait 'til our mom was out of the room and put Mario or Link (both N64) in a near-death situation which would require expert reflexes to avoid. We were mean like that.

- I used a Game Genie to beat Road Rash after being stuck on the final three races for over a decade.
- I've never played a Zelda game, a "Brawl" game, and just one Final Fantasy game (though I don't feel shameful about that really).
- When I was younger, I actually called the 900 hints number in the Landstalker manual so I could find those fucking black ice spike boots (which were in a near-black pit... fuckers).

-I've used an Action Replay on the gamecube plenty of times, but I'm having a hard time recalling if I used it mainly for harmless fun or to beat a game. Honestly, I probably did use it to beat a game.
-I played The World Ends With You twice, then promptly sold it. I'm not a big RPG gamer anyway, so when I saw typical Japanese angst, stupid clothes, and bad J-Pop, I was outta there! I really have no clue why it wins game awards. Also, I didn't finish Kid Icarus and Blaster Master.
-I've never played a single Final Fantasy, and probably never will.
-I used a guide to beat Wind Waker the first time. It's probably okay, in hindsight. After all, those triforce pieces were ridiculous!
-I tend to bash the PS3 and its lack of games, yet I wouldn't object to receiving one as a gift.

I must admit, my opinion on TWEWY is well, quite different from yours. When I first picked it up and played it, the whole way it was put together just felt like such a breath of fresh air. I got it in....I think August, and it's still the game that's predominantly in my DS (as opposed to CT DS, Mario Kart DS, or New Super Mario Bros for example). And as odd as it may be to say, some of the music's actually pretty catchy, I think.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? I remember that...traded it for Advance Wars Dual Strike over on GameTZ or something...at least I THINK that's what happened to it. Also, as horrid as the voice acting in Resident Evil Director's Cut, I have to admit it's one of the reasons I'll probably never get rid of that game. :-P

"Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be"
I have a friend who's gone through a headset and a mouse in the last few months violating that one. In fact, I started playing through Mario World with my fiancee again last night and violated it when I made a stupid mistake at the start of a level and died. It was nothing major, but I won't repeat what it was because frankly it's embarrassing for someone who's played the game an untold number of times in the last 16 years. I also did it a lot the last time I made a run at Mario the Lost Levels. That has to be one of the hardest fucking games ever made while still being beatable.

Forgive me Father Baer, for I have sinned....
I. Thou shalt not cheat.
Heh, too many to count.
II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort.
Bought Chaos Legion and the strategy guide (honestly because I wanted the poster inside) but temptation got the best of me and I ended up pretty much studying the damn thing by level 4.
III. Thou shalt not disrespect the system of another while secretly desiring it.
Actually I don't think I've ever done this. I don't get too fanboy-ish really.
IV. Thou shalt not play for someone who is taking a bathroom break.
Not so much play as kill them off....
Halo 3 is my main offense of this
V. Thou shalt not steal lives or items in a two-player game.
I honestly try not to but instinct just tells me to grab it before its too late. Especially on levels where you can't control the scrolling.
VI. Thou shalt finish each game that thee starteth.
Oh man, just take a look at my Backloggery. Top Gun, Oblivion, Ace Combat, Half-Life 2.....
VII. Thou shalt not fling thy controller across the room, no matter how frustratingly difficult thy game might be.
Ninja Gaiden on XBox was the only game that I really got frustrated enough with to even contemplate this. But every time I'd wind up and prepare to launch the controller into the TV, I'd remember the $35 floating away and the $200 TV in a dumpster. That image was usually enough to stop me.
VIII. Thou shalt watch quietly as others attempt the most simple and mundane levels, battles, or puzzles and not shout out the obvious method of completing them.
I have to bite my tongue. HARD.

Killing people off in Halo while they are away is pretty much the only way I can win. I should be ashamed of this, but I'm not. I suck at Halo enough that I think it's acceptable.

I've tried to beat Zelda OOT like three times but I keep getting bored at different spots. Once when I was barely an hour in, once inside Jabu Jabu, and then of course at the dreaded Water Temple. I had the Gamecube version and I traded it in because it was worth a lot of money. On the off chance that I ever feel like playing it again it emulates pretty much perfectly.
Also, I tend to think anyone who argues that the PS3 is better than the 360 is absolutely ridiculous. But still, I'd like a PS3 for a Blu-Ray player, MGS4, and... well the fact that I can't think of a third reason kinda backs up my opinion on it.
In the vein of Nasenmann's post, I can't beat Ico.

I read a complete walkthrough before playing Ocarina of Time for the first time. >.<
The Official Nintendo Player's Guide for Ocarina of Time is what got me into Zelda. I really love how they presented it as a fantasy novel, more or less.
II. Thou shalt not use player's guides or walkthroughs except as a last resort.
I have sinned; I could never get my fix of players guides.
I mean I own the official players guide to Crash Bandicoot: Warped and Halo 2 even though I've never ever owned an Xbox or Playstation!
I quit investing in them after I realized that for every five players guides I bought, I could have bought a brand new game.
That and the internet.
As for not finishing games, I've only played through 2/3's of FFV and FFIII and haven't finished.
On a more sinister note, I bought my Wii and Twilight Princess like a month after it came out. I've yet to finish it.

Sega was alright. Nothing special but alright.
Sony gave me some hope, and when the PS2...PS3 came out I pretty much become just a hair under fanboyism for Sony. I'm angry at them right now for the lack of testis with regards to Fallout 3 DLC, and a piss poor games selection.
PSP hasn't failed me yet.

Though I didn't need one for Aria of Sorrow (or any game after it until Order), I used gamefaqs AS A LAST RESORT for Harmony of Dissonance (I could not understand the whole two castle system until after... a while), and.. well, as a second to last resort for SOTN :D
I'm NOT convinced that there is no cow level. and I have gone on operation cwal a few times. So yes I suck at starcraft, even on single player.
I've played Diablo 2 off and on since 2002 and I've just started up again last month. It's not even that great of a game, but it's just horribly addictive. And I've never found a Stone of Jordan nor taken on the ubers in Uber Tristram (haven't played so much after 1.1).
I owned a (many) King's Staff of Apocalypse on Diablo. And I duped on Diablo many times.
I've never finished Ultima: Exodus. I first started playing that game with my brother many years ago (13?) and we could only manage to get by using Game Genie and infinite MP. We had no resources to guide us whatsoever (though, when I think about it, the townsfolk and those casino guys have a lot to say) and figuring out where those 4 marks were and how to get to them in those caves was.. hard. Ambrosia made no sense to us until we accidentally stumbled upon a temple... finally found the final castle and how to enter it, but we had no idea what we needed to do to finish the game. We eventually figured out how to do it from gamefaqs, but we never finished up the game..
I actually started the game again without cheat codes and it was much easier this time around. Sure, it's faster to cheat, but there's a more rewarding feeling behind playing it legitimately. Anyway, I had just finished with the first cave I think before I saved state and never reloaded the game.

Quoted for truth. Well, I haven't played through much of Twilight Princess, so I can't really comment on that, but "Majora's Mask is the best Zelda I've played" and "OoT steals the spotlight even from newer, better games" are certainly both true.
so many people having trouble with ff8. you can beat that game at level 11 or so, every enemy scales to you regardless of where you are in the game.

That pretty much sums up LoD. "I don't know why this is happening, but damn if it doesn't kick ass." Plus the voice actors yelling out the names of the additions when you successfully complete them was amusing in the extreme. Rose's always sounded vaguely dirty -- Whip Smack and More & More...

Never beat Chrono Cross. Got to the one place out in the ocean where time is frozen (I think? I could be remembering wrong) and quit.
Never played any Resident Evil for any length of time.
Never beat HL1 without cheats (or HL2 for that matter). I always get stuck and frustrated, and just wind up godmoding and noclipping.
Never beat Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, Illusion of Gaia, Tales of Phantasia... the list goes on.
Never beat Dragon Quest VIII. Got to the last dungeon... can you guess the rest?
Never beat Lufia 1 or 2, though I only got like halfway through each.
I own a copy of Albion for my PC and never beat it.
I've never played any Sonic game past level one, and I've never owned a Sega system.
I once had a Virtual Boy... and secretly loved it.
Never played or even seen Wind Waker in action, but played every other title (except for the ones on "that other" system.
And whoever said Megaman X was awesome, you are correct.
Though I didn't think X, X2 or X3 were particularly hard, any of them.
There are plenty more sins I have committed, but I'm sure I've said enough to show my unclean status in the eyes of gaming gods...

Two area come to mind. Nova prospekt can be a bit confusing, and the ruins just before the citadel. But with some thinking making your way through is easy.

Fortunately it isn't, so only video game nerds will try to smote you.
Oh well, that's what this forum's for :)

I always got lost in Nova Prospect. Every time. At the point where you have to leave the dilapidated topside and go down to where Alyx's dad is, I never can find that point. I just give up and noclip around the map. And, of course, once that one cheat's in, you just gotta hit the rest.
Actually, I remember why I never beat Chrono Cross: Miguel (wasn't that his name? The dude with the lightsaber looking thing. It's been years) always locked up my disk for some reason and I couldn't get past it. I now own a different copy but my attention has been occupied with kid and wife (it was a lot easier to find time when I was, like, 14).
And I also watched the Mother 3 translation for years and still haven't made it even halfway through. I just don't enjoy it as much as Mother 2, Earthbound, whatever you want to call it.
Also, I remember reading reviews that Quest 64 was terrible but it's one of my favorite action/adventure games of all time. Go figure.

Yeah, if you're really overpowered and don't need to heal for another few turns.
This brings me to another guilty point for me - whenever I feel battles like that are in my odds, sometimes I end up pressing whatever keyboard button it is to speed up the game multiple times over. That's yet another reason why I try to refrain from emulators other than for playing games that never got released out here >.>

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

There is only 2 games I've ever not finished (suprisingly one of them is Chrono Trigger) and I have never used cheats until after I beat the game at least twice so I can get everything out of it. I've watched a couple Earthbound and CT ones just because I wanted to see if I missed anything in my X number of playthroughs.

Jeez Laweez, I think I'm pretty much going to gamer hell with all the shame/sins I've accumulated. Here's a couple
-Never completed Link to the Past
-Had to cheat to complete Gunstar Heroes the first time (Seven Force when I was 8 was a BITCH!)
- Cheated to complete Final Fantasy 7, because I was too young and impatient to figure out the intricacies of the materia system
- I actually think the Ys Series is more enjoyable than the Zelda series.
- Never played Oddworld.
- I spoiled the entire story of Xenogears for myself before actually playing the game. Damn you wikipedia.
There's a lot more but I think I should consider annointing myself before I say anything else.

I go back to play CC, and my memory card was gone. So I go as my mom, who is sitting by my little brothers swimming pool, lone behold. as I'm walking around the corner... There it is. Is it a sin to find an excuse to beat Castlevania IV in two loops in one sitting every other day..?
More recent sin....
Recently went back on "Embodiment of Scarlet Devil" which originally did not have a visible hit box. With the recent graphical update patch (created by fans) there was an option to have a permavisible hitbox....
I ONLY DID IT ONCE ON HARD MODE TO SEE WHAT IT WAS LIKE! I WAS HAVING A BAD DAY AS SAKUYA WAS MOPPING THE FLOOR WITH MY ASS AND THE FLOOR WAS SANDPAPER.
Switched it back to non-visible hitbox as it was originally meant to be. (imo..)

I loved Quest 64 (in all it's repetitive glory), I couldn't finish Chrono Cross, I religiously play X-com: UFO Defense (working on a record time in beating it - currently at 1 1/2 hours; I'm sure I could do better...), yet find X-com Apocalypse to be the superior game, I actually like the soundtrack for Amagon (yet despise the game... go figure), I never played a Resident Evil game in my life, I don't like Halo (even though I generally like FPS), and I loved Quest 64 (in all it's repetitive glory).

Oh god, Quest 64. Between the disorienting post-battle camera spin and the constant dying, it took me about a week to finally navigate through that damned Blue Cave, only to get utterly destroyed by Nepty in the Isle of the Sky. Still, I loved every minute of it.
Being only my second RPG, I remember wanting to play other similar games. I rented Aidyn Chronicles, which Nintendo Power had led me to believe was just like Quest 64. I couldn't stand the graphics and decided it was a shitty game after about 20 minutes of gameplay. Fortunately, I discovered Ogre Battle 64 shortly thereafter, and my craving for RPGs was finally sated.

Xenosaga II, however, does translate to "Beyond Good and Evil". (I think. >_>)
Let's see. I got stuck on Xenogears and Chrono Cross. I only recently beat Chrono Trigger (Lavos is DAMNED hard if you don't do all the sidequests! So when I got there the first time I was like eff this. lol).
I haven't beaten a Mega Man game of any kind. Mostly because I just suck. I've played 2 and X to the first stage in the final levels arc, but could not get past them. (Actually, wait, I did get to Wily in MM2 I think.)
*sigh* I fail.
On the other hand, I did beat FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, and FFX, though not to the point of fighting all the optional bosses or anything. But it's a good start.
I really loved FFVIII, I have to be honest. I just loved all the customizing that the junction system provided. So even though I completely sucked on my first playthrough (and yes, Ultimecia's castle did own me the first time around) I managed to get better. The funny thing for me in that game was, I never used items in battle, not once. (I practically always had Attack/Magic/Draw/GF, in that order, until I got better commands.)
Oh, never finished FFXII. Got bored with that one at about the Mosphoran Highwaste. I'm not a fan of having to go through like five different overworld areas (each huge, and each practically requiring you to grind two or three levels if you don't want to get owned further along), and in my view the story developments did not balance that flaw at all. I did like the battle system (especially Quickenings, damn but I was good at those), and I gave the game a lot of slack for that reason, But it began to wear pretty thin anyway.
