OK so I'm watching the new episode of Heroes right now and there's a scene with Sylar in a club and I noticed one of Zircon's tunes in the background!
I thought it was pretty cool so I decided to let you guys know.
EDIT: It was Warhead

See, I assumed he had his brain chopped off so Sylar could bust out mad tunes...
I always called heroes "Live Action X-Men: The Show"
Is that a bad description of the show?

To be fair, it was the ambient music in the club; it wasn't underscoring any action in the show.
That doesn't make it any less awesome. I'm just saying.

It was a lot louder than most club background music too and not muffled at all. Sounded almost like it was in the foreground and no quality lost

Hey, that's pretty cool man. Goes to show there's something good about Heroes besides the MAD TV parody that Bobby Lee does. :-P
Edit: No offense meant to the Heroes fans out there of course, since I've only actually seen 1 full episode.
I'm still excited for zircon, I mean, it's... HEROES... Millions of people watch it religiously. Think of how many people that's going to reach. Think of how many plays that is for that song. I bet you five bucks there's a DJ out there right now, or MULTIPLE DJs, who heard that track and are probably thinking, "OMG, I want to remix that!". Just sayin'. :)

Is anyone truly realizing the epic proportions of this involuntary turn of events?
Zircon just saved 5 years or so worth of hardship and boosted his artistic career in just 5 minutes...
Without doing anything (beside creating awesome music of course) and without even being aware of it!
How awesome is that?
So why bother working for Capcom now that he can work for Hollywood?
...or more precisely, Hollywood can thereby give him the credit (i.e. royalities & buisness opportunities) they ought to have given him by now. ;-)

How did you even do that??? Thank you! That's really awesome. In fact, thank you to everyone who has posted. I appreciate it. Ironically, I wouldn't have heard about this for another... 6-9 months because ASCAP and Pump Audio (the two organizations who would collect for this usage) are on the slow side.

zircon
03-31-2009, 05:13 AM
Nah, it's all legit, but like I said the people that compensate me for this type of thing move sloooowly. Here's how it works. Antigravity (http://www.cdbaby.com/zircon3) is licensed to a music library/publisher, Pump Audio, who basically makes it available to anyone who is interested. They also shop it around a bit directly. Once someone selects a song from it, they pay an upfront fee (for a "synchronization license") which is split 50/50 with me. I get my checks from Pump twice a year, along with a statement about who bought what. Otherwise, they don't contact me at all. Thus, I could have 1000 placements this month and I wouldn't hear about any of them until about 3 months from now when the check comes in. Sometimes, it takes even longer... for example, my music was used on some UK TV show DVD release which came out in April, but I wasn't officially notified until December of that year.
The other channel of revenue is ASCAP, the performing rights organization of which I am a member. Basically, anytime ANYTHING is broadcast on TV, the producers of each show or ad are supposed to report what music they use to the appropriate PRO. So, the people behind Heroes would tell ASCAP, "Hey, we used this song 'Warhead' for about 45 seconds on NBC at 9pm." This would happen for any subsequent broadcasts as well. ASCAP then uses some complex formula to determine a royalty for EACH broadcast, which is billed to the Heroes guys. Then, about four times a year, they would pay out those royalties to myself and Pump (another 50/50 split).

Volume 2 (Generations) was okay. Volume 3 (Villains) was absolutely horrible. Volume 4 (Fugitives) actually has some direction now, and last week's episode (Cold Snap) was amazing; like as good as some of the best Season 1 episodes. This week's episode (Into Asylum) wasn't as good as last week's but it was still pretty great. It feels like the show is finally back on track after such abyssmal storylines.

You can thank the writers guild strikes for the lack of good stories. Though sometimes I think the writers are off kilter now and then.

The episode after the week break they took a few episodes back was the first time the head writer from Season 1 came back, so that may be why the new episodes actually have direction and are a lot better than Villains was.
Also, grats zircon!

I don't have any background whatsoever reading comics, so I'm curious: what was so horrible about volumes 2 and 3? I'll admit that I liked volume 1 best, sure, but didn't find 2 and 3 to be that bad.
I haven't watched any of Volume 4 yet (going to wait until it's finished and watch it over the course of a couple nights).

I believed it would be best compared to an anime. There are episodes that focus on the story line, and then there are fillers. Fillers are generally... well... there to fill the series with unrelated pieces of story to make the series seem longer. I'd say most people don't like them, others do, so it really just comes down to preference. Trust me, I don't think a company would want a series that makes them so much money to end so quickly. Same applies to anime, hence the comparison. But that's just my take :<
DarkeSword
04-01-2009, 04:05 AM
The pacing of 2 was bad and flyboy West was probably the worst character ever introduced in the series, and it didn't help that he actor playing him couldn't act.
Still they introduced some great characters, like Adam Monroe and Elle.
Volume 3 tossed consistent characterization to the winds and killed off anyone interesting from Volume 2 (Adam and Elle). They would also introduce an interesting story idea and immediately resolve it (or forget about it) by the end of the episode. They didn't let anything play out; it was constantly shifting gears and had no clear direction.
Volume 4 is a nearly complete 180 from Volume 3. They've picked one storyline and they're pretty much sticking to it, which is nice because you don't have to constantly re-adjust to characters deciding they want to be good guys this week instead of bad guys like they were last week. The character development actually makes a little more sense this time around. Plus it has Zircon music, so how can you go wrong? :|
And yes, it's mostly due to Bryan Fuller returning to the show as a consultant/writer (he wrote last week's Cold Snap, which was just amazing). It's almost worth losing Pushing Daisies for. Almost.
yes i'm still bitter at you ABC :whatevaa:
