hmm i don't really remember the original song that well, but that's not to say i don't like this remix... like they said its not real humanized, but its still good music, very soothing... got no complaints here, except

Great peice. Although, it is like the Hillbilly Rodeo, good for an occasional listen but not for everyday.

Biggest turn off here is that I'd have to deal with the annoying lyrics each time this played. Beyond that, rather simplistic reason default instrument sequencing. All the same instruments noppz used a hundred times, but well. Cool idea, but not too well done. Crystal piano at 2:35 is simply not very good. Random and awkward. Like to have seen more interesting things happen in the mid section.

I don't know about these other yutzes (esp. Protricity, who frankly sounds like he's crying because he aint this creative), but I loved it. It effectively captured the mood of the originally piece, while still being good and 'hammy' with the intro. I also think the sound quality was spot on. Overall, B+ performance. This makes my playlist, so keep 'em coming.

Kakariko Village is one of my favorite game tunes. And the intro, like the one in Mega Man 3's Needles, is good enough that it doesn't get on my nerves, no matter how many times I hear it.
Definitely good enough to earn a place in the rotation.

Hehe, very creative, but for the most part, it didn't really capture me enough to playlist it.

It's all right, but not for the faint of heart.
BTW, one thing, bud. You should have sent this remix and requested to have it posted before grad last year.
Thanks for the comments for guys. And Prot, I had originally planned to have much more in the mix. I didn't want to purely use Reason instruments, but due to my buddy who was going to do the real guitar tracks backing out I was pretty much stuck with what I had. I had originally planned for the track to sorta rock out a bit at the end with some electric guitar and some real percussion (never got my drums back so that's my fault), but hey...can't always get what I want. I hope whoever likes the mix likes it for what it is.

This was very much like my prom back in april. Not so much the music as the begining reminding me of when the Dj played three country songs in a row and everybody started booing(note: majority of the kids in my high school were black). Plus the extreme usage of the word suck also really gave it that "High School" feeling, because high school students cant go two seconds without using it (believe me I know, I was just there not even 5 months ago)
This was a cool remix though. Loved the strings and guitar together, and the overall feeling was just perfect. It's a very cool jam. It's nice to know OCR thought higher of it than vgmix did.

As a semi-reclusive kid myself, I've never been to any school dances, but this song kinda makes me want to. ^__^ Very nicely done!

I don't go to dances either... they are boring to me... and expensive... and I don't like dressing up.
You're principal sounds kinda like Barney Fife. Don Knotts? I think that's his name... I can't remember.
Pretty good song overall

this is really cool. simplistic, and nice. thumbs up from me. intro and endings are inventive.
Anyone notice the clash of notes at 1:54, it could break a window. Breaks my ears everytime.Now...3:44 should have been the counter melodi you were looking for.. but hey could it be just me? Other than that its alright.

I've always liked this theme, and wish it would be remixed a couple more times. Not too many times though..
The vocals in the beginning and end I think are creative and add to the piece. 'You Suck' 'Link Sucks' haha, that made me laugh. JUst like high school.
On the second listen, this is way better and I really feel the overall tone better. It made my playlist.
The 'Not very Humanized' comment I feel was true. But that can work for the better. A cheezy prom song :)
B+ from me also.

PURE. GOLD. Not since the famed Music of My Groin have I heard such goodness. What is it about Zelda that attracts such humorous interpretation from it's fans? This is awesome stuff. I laughed my butt off. I loved the tip to Green Day at the beginning, too. This sounds so much like a high school prom, it's not even funny. The actual remix is awesome too. Overall, this is a +5/+5 Remix of Awesome. w00t!

Darth Vader says: Impressive, most impressive.
I really enjoyed this arrangement. It kinda has the same sound as the Kakariko Crystals mix but has more of an airy outdoorsy feel to it. A much needed and wanted change to the more uptempo remixes that have been coming in as of late. :nicework:

09-13-2004, 03:35 AM
This is an odd piece to critique because it's neither music nor comedy, but something inbetween. On a comic level, I think it succeeds, but you have to sit through the song to hear the end bit. On a musical level, rather, it's hard to say because Flik was obviously trying to create something cheesy, so I don't think I'm being overly harsh to say that it, well, wasn't great. If you put those two items together, you would ordinarily get a stinker, but I can see why people would like it. Looks like being fun and creative can swing the vote.

Being a big fan of the Zelda games, I have always been inclined to listen to every remix. In my opinion this is one of the best I've heard. It is very relaxing and, even without Principal Flik, the sound and feel of the tune just about takes me back to Senior Prom (which i actually connected my gameboy with my friend and we played four swords together). Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more.
P.S. Very humorous.

Well, I haven't heard a song that sounded anything like this in some time. Slow-paced, but a wonderful melody from Zelda 3. Considering it's my favorite game in the series, my expectations for this were pretty high. And in that respect, my expectations were met. Nice to listen to from time to time. :)

The opening talking was nice and realistic.
The music was great.
But the end was out of place. It didn't do it for me. The principal's gonna get even with the kids? WTF? That is not realistic. That ruins it for me. I guess I could cut it out with iTunes, but man. Out of place. All wrong.

Flik correct me if I'm wrong, but I notice a similarity to Adam Sandler here. I must be the only Sandler fan on the site. The cd before "What the Hell Happened to Me" whose name I forget at the moment (ironically I own two copies for some reason), but it had a skit that was similar to the the principal here. Also it's like the cheerleading skit where they throw shit at the cheerleader and they scream how much she sucks the whole time.
Back to the point though. Excellent work. Very funny and pleasant to the ears as well. First review I've given in a very very long time.
Edit: I believe the name of the Sandler cd was "They're All Going to Laugh at You".
Yep, I remember that skit. However I was not thinking of it when I made the intro. I was just being myself ;)
Glad you liked it.

This is a great mix, in that we don't have enough "wtf?!" ones on this site for my tastes. Ever since I heard Music of My Groin (now legendary), I always looked forward to the stupid, funny ones.
The mixing itself leaves something to be desired, sure, but with the context it fits nicely, I think.
I don't think anyone was taking this one seriously, but that doesn't mean that Flik doesn't rock hard.[/i]

a bit of a joke as overclocked remixes go, but i found it amusing. its a very nice piece and if it didn't have the talking in the beginning it would be more legit.

An intersting begining to a pretty good mix. Really, Interesting is the only word I can use to describe this mix.

Definitely interesting! I'm normally wary of anything with voice acting, but this one completely cracked me up. I absolutely love it.
My only problems were hearing difficulties. I couldn't tell Link was swearing in the beginning until I turned the volume up twice its normal level. And the people shouting in the background were talking at nearly the same time as the Princi-PAL, so it was hard to tell exactly WHO they were saying sucked at any given time.
What the heck is the kid saying at the end after the "Suck my Triforce" bit? I thought he was just yelling "YOU did it!" but it almost sounds like there's more than one syllable in the "You" part. Since he's shouting at the same time as Principal Flik, though, I can't make it out. Can anyone, probably with better speakers, enlighten me? It's driving me crazy. =D
I really hope to hear more like this one! The premise of a Hylian prom is just the sort of thing that knocks me out laughing.
ShrikeArghast
10-02-2004, 03:43 PM
The guy at the end says 'Gannon did it,' but it all runs together and sounds more like 'Ganno'd'it' so you really have to strain to hear it.

Great, thanks! I kept thinking it sounded like, "Yoda did it!" or "Yuna did it!" and of course, neither of those would FIT in Zelda 3. *Laughs*
Okay, that just further raises my amusement of this track. In addition to a Hylian prom, now I'm going to have the image of wannabe-gangsta Ganon and his leather-jacket cronies tagging school property while Link's trying to get his chords right. I really hope there'll be more as amusing as this one.

Haha, Comic ReMixes always get a thumbs up in my book. I love to hear that sort of thing. I though it was a riot.
Anyways, I thought the music itself was pretty good, and I applaude you for the bit where Link has a false start on the guitar. It gives it a more human edge, and I respect that.

This was definately a great idea from "Principle" Flik to arrange this silly little nostalgic theme to make his debut. He definately nailed the prom feel. The only thing missing would be the typical slightly over-enthused prom singer singing the melody. Instead that was replaced with a sweet and cheesy woodwind section. This was all great but for one thing, how many high school kiddie bands playing at a prom are going to have a proficient clarinet/flute ensemble. The only thing that really bugged me about the song was the incredibly-reminescant-of-greendays-"Good Riddance" intro. Flik buddy, the two slip ups and curse was done before, and if you ask me it didn't work then either. Other than that, the song's theme hit it's mark and was thouroughly enjoyable. Well done Flik!

The intro's dumb, except for the part where the guy screws up on the guitar, that was 'less' dumb than the rest of the intro,
ild enjoy the rest of the song if the intro wasnt there to ruin the whole song
the mega man needle intro is better

10-12-2004, 07:23 AM
I just used a music editing program to take out the intro and ending. The voices ruined the song for me, cause they were so retarted.
The intro was just a random thing I did. Some people liked it, some obviously didn't. If you enjoyed the music then that's what matters.

I really liked this song, cuz the beginning and the end makes me laugh every time i listen to it and the music itself is slow and calm... When you listen to the black/death/viking metal all the time, you tend to respect these songs more. Or atleast i do.
Overall rating is something like 11-12/10 in my opinion.

I really liked this eventhough I usually avoid listening to(not in a bad way) Zelda 3 mixes. Flik managed to establish a solid arrangement which didnt feel repetitive. I loved the intro end ending you created ("Suck My Triforce" haha). Great job overall.

I caught the little Green Day reference in the beginning of the guitar lick. This whole thing is pretty damn cool, from the principal that sounds like Agent Pleakley, to the whole slow-dancing music. This is a great arrangement, executed almost to perfection.

I open the file for the first time, and I think "crap! I mixed my sound bytes with my OCRemixes again!" Then the principal mentions "Kakariko High School," and I have to start the file over just to get the full flavor... rather than wonder what movie I may have grabbed the byte from.
HILARIOUS intro! I usually laugh at how perfectly the melody fits in with the piece. This got me on the ground before the thing starts officially.
Like has been said before, the percussion is a weak point... I'd have to say it's worst just before the end.
And for closing with as much humor, props to ya!

Just an unusual thing, Ganon and Link actually going to the same school? lol, nice touch.

HA! "Ganon did it!" I can't stop laughing! You should make another one where Zelda gose up to sing and all the guys start to wistle and one shouts "Yeah, babby!" And Zelda's all like "SHUT UP!" :lmassoff:
Honestly didn't think this old mix would warrant any newer comments, but I'm glad you guys are enjoying it.

Okay, all I can say is hahahahahahaha! "Suck my triforce", lol, only a real die-hard crazy Zelda fan can come up with that and throw it into a mix. I mean, imagine somebody actually did spray paint that on a principle's office door, lol. I'd be...just...I dunno...hysterical or just rendered speechless.

Well, I can't say I was that into the intro/outro skits, not really my sense of humor, and the principal at my high school was one of those "Dead Poet Society" kind of guys, who was all down with student activities and the like. I know my viewpoint on the humor in this track seems to be unpopular on the forum, but I found it a bit annoying. However, I definitely respect the effort to try something original and dig the creativeness. And whoever made that "Don Knotts" comparison, to quote "My Cousin Vinny": Dead on balls accurate.
All that aside, really enjoyed this piece. A very faithful, yet unique, rendition of the original track. This really captured the breezy feel of the original while still applying an original tone to it. Don't know if that made much sense, but simply put, I liked the song. Know that!

This track goes right up there with that other "Hey everyone, I'm Sonic and I'm the fastest thing alive!" crap.
If you're gonna re-mix something, for goddamn's sake, RE-MIX IT! Keep your sense of humour OUT! It only ADDS to how sucky the re-mix is!
I'm not downloading it, even though the waltz sounded "OK." I don't want my friends to hear that gay part at the beginning... SHEESH.

Wow, way to be a complete, elitist faggot. I like that you're too embarassed to play this infront of your friends. Haha.
I really liked the intro and outro. Had it simply been the song, it would not have been nearly as memorable. Really good stuff, I say.

I take it you don't like Team Gato or Music of My Groin either.
As for the song, it is fairly standard. Nothing really leaps out, save for the intro and outro which happen to be speech.
Yay! I'm glad people are still loving and despising this remix. Brings tears of joy to my eyes!

Are you kidding me? 'Suck my Triforce'?? NOT FUNNY? I gotta tell ya, this song is awesome. The song is what it was meant to be, a sappy prom soft instrumental. It was good, I coulda danced with my wife to it if we weren't too busy playing the intro and ending over and over again. It runs along the lines of such classics as Team Gato and Needles. Awesome mix.

The moment I heard this song I thought "This would be perfect for a flash video!" I can see it now, the whole prom scene with people dancing, fighting, telling stories, and of course ganon seaking in to spike the punch. To bad I suck at flash, You should ask someone @ newgrounds.com to make one. People might like this song more if you had a video to go along with it, but thats just My opinion.

Principal Flik is amazing. Hilarious and creative track, with some nice additional counter melodies, and the intro and outro were super quality. Nice work dude, I think a sequel should be in order. :-D

Ok, I'm gonna start off by saying that I love this mix. On it' own, the song is a peaceful melody that does bring to mind close quartered slow dancing in that awkward adolescent way.
The intro and exit of the song however make it golden. and for those with sharp ears, can hear the "damn it" after the first 2 chords of the guitar. made me chuckle a bit also.
As a whole it goes in my fun list with a few extra stars
