WIP (Bless the Dweller) (http://www.fileupyours.com/view/247586/bless_the_stairway.mp3) needs obvious work in the highs + structuring and song duration. I'll have to warm-up before singing in the vocal fry register again.
Stairway to the Clouds - Castlevania 64 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBKH8v1QmUs&feature=related)
MIDI file that won't work unless you go to (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/n64/STAIRWAY.mid) the VGMusic index yourself (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/n64/index-af.html)
No offense, but your WIP is the QUIETEST thing ever! I had to turn my volume up to maximum to hear it on headphones, and it doesn't register anything on Winamp's oscilloscope (except for a tiny pixel vibration once or twice).
As for my WIP... I guess technically it's even quieter because it is nonexistent. Well, aside from those three WIPs I've since abandoned. Don't worry challenger, I'll get started on this again eventually!

Could I have a D&B flavored sundae?
Absolutely... as soon as my igpu stops flirting with the 212° F bar, shuting down my computer every 12min or so.
Now it can almost make water boil, which could be convenient for cooking purposes and all... but it just isn't much practical for remixing.
I haven't even started yet. And now, my midi controllers are both acting up, I don't know if they're just not getting enough power or what. Hell, it could even be Vista...

Aww, that's too bad. I requested Monstro Town. But I understand, these things happen. I don't know, try anyway? Maybe just lay down the melody and chords and see what comes of it? It doesn't have to be brilliant, it's not like we are getting judged. Mine's certainly not a masterpiece anyway :?

I will try to do it, but my attempts so far have led nowhere. And I foolishly started a Remix Collaboration on another forum on top of the other stuff I have to do.
If I don't do it for the challenge, I'll do it for you later anyway. It's not really fair if everyone else has there requests done and you don't.

Ok guys. I opened back up the WIP posting system if anyone wants to post anything they've been working on on the compo hosting.
Again, this is totally optional, it's just a way for you guys to get free convenient hosting if you want to check-in anything for the mid-way point.

Hmm, no wonder I'm having so much trouble with my remix - I got one of the worst songs on the entire Tyrian soundtrack  It's certainly a challenge....
So I finally downloaded and beat Tyrian today... ahh, memories ^_^ And the game is more fun than I would've expected... probably because yesterday I downloaded some other DOS classics that I remembered being good and they just SUUUUCKED!
But I'm really posting here to say that the song I got sounds much much better in the game when you're shooting the crap out of things in that final level. I should be taking another stab at the remix soon...

a) someone other than Luke who's going to remix Luke's song.
b) referring to yourself in third person.
c) switching posters half way through the post.
d) you must construct additional pylons.

I was assigned the Chocobos Theme and immediately knew I wanted to do it in a minor key and make it medievil-ish or bardish or something. I didn't think I could pull it off, but I came up with a good concept for the song so I stuck with it.
It is called The Chocobos Ride at Dawn (http://www.box.net/shared/uvna6p7ha1). This is the afore mentioned concept track I threw together. Sadly, the concept track I came up with is ALL I have come up with so far. Its just a drum track and a few orchestral tracks played in different combinations, Stupid busy summers.
Anyway, there it is. Wanted to post something at least...

I've spent a little over 24 hours on Moon over Castle in the course of 4-5 days and I only have 1:30 done...
Worst case scenario I submit a unfinished version to FBRC and submit the finished version to...well, use your imagination... (no not ocr, at least not yet)
I made this post earlier today in a different thread, but I'm actually feeling better about this now. What I submit to FBRC still won't be the definitive final version, but it's at least going to be a complete song clocking somewhere around 2:00-2:30, with guitar solo and all. That is, if school doesn't rape me up the ass.

(ThaSauce user account required.) If you have difficulty registering, shoot me a PM here.
F4T4L's probably gonna hate me for saying this, but I'm doubting I'll completely finish my mix by the deadline. Been completely bogged down with work and my engineering workterm report (due friday), and my landlord's been doing some rather noisy renovations, cutting back on my recording time.
If I don't get things finished in time, I'll clean up the very rough demo I recorded a few weeks back and submit that instead. At least it's something.

Sloppy, all-over-the-place metal remix of "A Journey" and "Lord Blazer Battle" from Wild ARMs 2. I (and Rama as well) can move them by uploading to another contest. I used to do that with Bonus Tracks from PRC by uploading them to the next round and then move them to the round they belong).

Hey Fishy, I requested your source, and though you didn't like it, I really do, and I REALLY liked what you did with it! I'll ipod it for sure, unfinished or not. So thanks for stickin it out, at least one person appreciates it, lol.
Im also interested in your recording setup, what you use and such, if you don't mind divulging. Thanks!
Well glad you enjoyed it. Uh, not much to my setup really.
Guitar > Tascam 144 > Guitar Rig
I believe I used my Ibanez RG for the leads and my Jackson Dinky for the rhythm. The bass was also live using guitar rig too. If I was using my macbook I probably wouldn't have even used the tascam and gone straight into the side of it. Pretty low tech really.

That was pretty cool! I kept thinking of Bryyo from Metroid Prime 3.
Glad you liked it.
It's not the first time I get this Bryyo song comparison though.
Did you meant the ice part (screw attack), or the cliffside part?
Anyway, 15 songs is great! I now officially believe in miracles. ;)
...even though none of my requests made it through.
FBRC was definitely a great challenge and a lot of fun.

Cliffside. And my request didn't get done last year. But I don't know why I chose it anyway.

Not that it matters, but I remastered (re-mixed it and re-recorded one small, small section) my track and you can hear the new version (which is much louder :D) at http://tindeck.com/listen/yryh .

Listening party! Hoo-yeah! or not
This is something that's been thrown around and I feel like most people have already heard a lot of the songs, but if people are interested I'm absolutely down for having a listening in #ThaSauce.
Another thing I want to do it package up the songs that finished, maybe give some people to them up a bit if they want, and then release them as a collection on ThaSauce and probably GM4A (http://gamemusic4all.com) (working on some album art, actually).
Obviously I'd like to post as many of these to R:TS as possible, but I'm going to contact artists individually before I post their songs. I'm not going to just run and put them up without saying anything, if they don't want them up, or if they want to make some revisions.
I'd like to get the whole challenges Excel file sorted out so we can post who requested what (I'll get on starla about that).
Lastly: Question, comments, or concerns? FBRC has improved greatly every year since it's first been around. It gives artists a chance to work on something they otherwise wouldn't, to prove how dynamic of an artist they are by being able to pick up a project they might not necessarily be interested in in the beginning, and still putting out some excellent results, and it gives the listeners of the community a solid chance at finally getting in some long awaited requests. So any suggestions, from listeners and artists alike, on how to improve it even more would be greatly appreciated.

Can I, at the very least, give you my revised/completed version for this? The production is light years better on what I have now.

Very nice (glad I participated at the last moment :<). I can't think of anything to improve the contest, really - it worked quite nicely as it's been presented. The only thing I can think of is for more people to finish their work, but you don't have control of that .

Keeping it annual helps keep people motivated to finish their work. Makes it more of an important event.

First of all, I think its awesome that a CD and some art are a possibility. That's cool.
I feel like adding a quick comment section under each track would be a good way to exchange feedback on the finished tracks. Feedback is encouraging (mostly) and it promotes growth as a composer, especially someone new like me, so streamlining that process means more of a good thing.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Skummel Maske
08-27-2009, 07:43 AM
Yeah, feedback is important.. The idea of a listening party could do something for that, otherwise I suppose some kind of review system might work as well? Or, possibly (although that might not be technically possible.. yet?) an option to comment directly on the tracks on Compo:ThaSauce?
suzumebachi
08-27-2009, 10:26 AM
Yeah some kind of feedback would be ideal. I thought that was why we were gonna have the listening party...

so I'm thinking we should organize a listening party (ie: we all meet up in #thasauce on irc.enterthegame.com some time and play the songs in sync and stream of consciousness babble about how much we like them as we listen, for those of you infamiliar with the concept).
what do you guys think would be a good time? sometime this weekend would be good. thoughts?

My drums were Frankenstein'd from many individual samples, then the resulting loop was chopped to bits. But it is my loop, Ty. :-P For five days' work, I'm glad I got off okay. It's more good Sauce content, at least. I'm thinking the tune could benefit from a live guitar if I were to submit this here.
