View Full Version : St. Louis Meetup! (June 27 - 28?)

Bahamut

So there has been interest expressed for a St. Louis meetup. I'm not sure what we'll be doing yet, but I'd hope that we can do stuff for two days, the second day for a BBQ/sporting stuff (i.e. ultimate). I hope there are people who can host in case people are coming in from out of town.

I solicit for all advice on things to do for the meetup.

Date: TBD (June 12-13?)
Time & place: TBD

People interested in coming:

Ashamee
Bahamut
BardicKnowledge
Binjovi
Eulogic
Moseph
Nekofrog
Newt
PosiBolt (putting you on because I told you in advance :P )
Sinewav
The Mutericator

I'm certainly interested in coming, though we'd have to work out the details before I can say for sure.

Bahamut

I'm waiting for people to chime in what date(s) would be good for them.

Also, I have board games and card games for nighttime at someone's place if anyone wants to play any.

That weekend works for me, Bahamut. The weekend of june 21 will not, as that's my wedding anniversary and reserved for my wife. :p

Looking forward to it!

So...where were all those interested St. Louis people?

Nekofrog
05-19-2009, 12:07 AM
Ash and I MIGHT be able to do it... our transportation this time around is 100% solid. Just an issue of coming up with the funds for it.

Also, June may be a bit too early for us to scrape the money together.

BardicKnowledge

Newt and I are from STL, but I'd rather not have a bunch of people drop in on my dad. PosiBolt / other STL folks, any suggestions?

Bahamut
05-19-2009, 03:33 AM
I know Posi can host someone overnight, but having extensive stuff done at his place is probably not the best of ideas. I'm sure he knows of BBQ spots though at the very least.

Moseph
05-19-2009, 05:13 AM
I have family visiting at the start of the week, and I'm not sure how long they're staying. If I can get that schedule pinned down, there's a chance I'll be able to host one or two people in my (very small) apartment.

Dyne

Hey, don't forget to talk to PosiBolt, I'm sure he'll love to jump into an OCR Meet Up in St. Louis.

Sinewav
05-19-2009, 05:43 AM
Hmm... on second thought, I don't think June 12-13 would work very well for me. 1) it's not far out enough that I'd be able to acquire the funds, and 2) I'm already asking for a lot of time off of work in June, and I kinda doubt they'll give me any more around that period of time.

The farther out the better, really.

Eulogic

It's pretty likely that I'll be able to come, as I am currently located in the STL.

Bahamut
05-19-2009, 08:24 AM
Good number of people so far interested...any others in the area?

PosiBolt
05-19-2009, 08:50 AM
I should be able to host a few people at my place if need be, and I'm certainly interested in a meetup.

Sinewav
05-20-2009, 06:07 AM
It's still unlikely, but leave me on the interested list. I'm still going to try to find a way to make it.

Bumping up to gauge interest & suggestions for stuff to do.

Bahamut
05-29-2009, 07:45 AM
Heh, looks like I bumped the wrong thread last time...so who else is up for this date?

Binjovi
05-29-2009, 07:56 AM
I'm kind of a maybe. My cousins will be in town around the 12th and 13th so I may be obligated to spend time with them. I guess you can put me down, but if I don't show up don't be too disappointed. :-P

Eulogic

I'd definitely be up for it...but Neko won't get to Indiana until the 13th

Nekofrog

That's been pushed back to the 17th, plane ticket was cheaper to push it a few days.

I would maybe come maybe. But the kids I know down at St. L are mostly likely going to come up by my (Chicago), and as such, other than seeing you fine folks, not much I'd want to do down there (seeing as it's ohhh an arch...and a place for shakes). And having my first meet up being probably the best meet up, I will be jaded and angry, since G-T and lexxy and oddllama and muse and spleen won't be there (except maybe I'll bring spleen because we are bffs irl).

Chicago > St. Louis.

Also besides eula, baha is the only person I really know, and well, for 9 months I can go visit him whenever I like so nah nah nah nah nah nah i'm not going i'm too cool for you nerds.

Should we push the date back to a further time? It'd be nice to hang out with you and Ash!

I don't know, I sincerely doubt we would be able to afford to come out. Money is desperately short.

BardicKnowledge
06-04-2009, 10:08 PM
I'd like to push the date back to the end of June (the 27th-28th) if possible -- lemme know. I can make the original Saturday, but will spend Friday on the road from MN.

I'd be up for moving it as well if all want.

Moseph

Moving it sounds good. Less of a chance of it colliding with visiting family for me.

Given that it was almost a week away from the meetup date and this thread was almost on page 3 (with less than a page of posts), I'd say this meetup date likely needs to be changed to be successful.

There is an UnMod Kansas City meetup the weekend of July 10, but I should hopefully be available any other weekend.

If there was a train from Chicago to St. Louis I would maybe come.

(someone look for a train schedule, I'm too lazy/tired)

Amtrak has a regular schedule of trains round trip chicago to St. Louis http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak/FareFinder?_tripType=Return&_origin=chicago&_depmonthyear=2009-06&_depday=27&_dephourmin=&_destination=St.+Louis&_retmonthyear=2009-06&_retday=28&_rethourmin=&_adults=1&_children=0&_infants=0&_searchBy=schedule&x=15&y=10

I used the 27th and 28th dates.

Bahamut
06-10-2009, 04:20 AM
So is everyone game for these dates?

Also, I plan on holding a BBQ around early-mid August at my new place if you guys are interested - think of it as a sort of goodbye BBQ for Nekofrog, since he's going off to basic training soon.

Neo Samus

I'm good for the 27th-28th, and will be visiting STL then regardless of meetup -- my parents live in St. Louis, and we'll be down that weekend.

Thank you for this.

If I decide I want to go, I'll probably be visiting with other friends, but I will make an effort to stop by and say hey what's up.

Also, baha, where's your new place? Alternatively, when are the parties starting? I can bring in dem bitches you know what I'm talking about *fistbump*

My new place is going to be near Mattis & Kirby in Champaign.

Also, bumping this up - people have suggestions for things to do in St. Louis?

Edit: Bardic & I simultaneously came up with seeing Transformers 2 for the nighttime at least.

City Museum!

Bahamut
06-20-2009, 08:28 PM
Also I hear there's a Six Flags in St. Louis? That could be something fun too.

Come on people, it's only 6 days away or so, some more ideas!

duckyboycantfly
06-21-2009, 04:42 AM
^ that is all there is to do in St. Louis.

(and the arch)

But I'm not coming. Not enough monies :(

Bahamut
06-21-2009, 05:55 PM
There's casinos too I hear - but not something I'd prefer to spend my $ on at this point heh.

BardicKnowledge
06-21-2009, 06:02 PM
City Museum isn't a bad idea -- the Science Center is free to tool around in also.

Would people be up for the Budweiser brewery tour?

EDIT: Union Station mall would be a decent spot to originally meet up, also.

Six Flags is kind of out of the way, expensive, and weather-dependent. I don't think I'd be that excited about it, but could be convinced..

Eulogic
06-21-2009, 07:54 PM
budweiser tour is only worth it if everyone's over 21 (and even then, it's not all that exciting)

Kentarre
06-21-2009, 08:25 PM
Didn't see this topic earlier, but 27th-28th would work for me. I'm in the St. Louis area, lurker wanting to meet fellow OCR'rs ;P

Bahamut
06-21-2009, 09:46 PM
So I guess we should start with a meeting place - Bardic's suggestion work?

OmegaDonut
06-21-2009, 10:29 PM
Conveniently enough, the Pokemon Video Game Championship Nationals tournament is being held the 27th-28th in St. Louis, and I have free airfare\hotel there for winning one of the regionals. It's been a while since I've been involved in anything OCR-related, but I'd like to meet up with a few people in the evening.

Eulogic
06-22-2009, 06:22 PM
man, i hate driving around downtown, but i guess there's no way around it

BardicKnowledge
06-22-2009, 06:39 PM
Eulogic, I hate it as well :(

Also, would people be up for minigolf somewhere? I'm on the east side of the river, and know of good places in Collinsville and O'Fallon.

Newt
06-23-2009, 03:41 AM
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the zoo is better for meeting than union station- only because I'm not sure I want to leave my car in that part of town..

As far as mini-golf, isn't SAFT better than the places on our side of the river, bardic? As a bonus, the arcade there is nicer as well.. assuming they're still in business?

EDIT:
I suppose union station could work- I could just take the metro into the city.

Union Station has things to do while we wait for people, while the zoo sucks and is hot. Forgot about SAFT though -- that's probably the better idea. Good mini-golf there, and Beatmania / DDR.

Bahamut
06-23-2009, 04:12 AM
I was wondering also whether people were interested in having a BBQ the next day as well - I'd certainly be up for it if someone has all of the stuff needed to barbeque or know of a place we could have one.

I'm certainly up for minigolfing & seeing Transformers 2 though.

BardicKnowledge
06-23-2009, 04:35 PM
Looked into the mini-golf course in Fenton, which apparently has THREE courses now, and a "huge 80+ game arcade." Sounds like our type of place :p

So some of us talked this over - how does Union Station at 1 pm sound? Newt & I might be a little late just as an advance warning, but Bardic has both of our numbers anyway. The only set-in-stone plan we were thinking was seeing Transformers 2 at an 8:15 showing - I think they know the theater.

BardicKnowledge
06-25-2009, 02:23 AM
For those local folks, said theater is Ronnie's, the Wehrenberg theater.

In any case, I leaving for STL tomorrow morning -- reach me via cell phone if people need to reach me for some reason.

Bahamut
06-25-2009, 02:28 AM
Is there a particular area of Union Station we should meet at?

BardicKnowledge
06-25-2009, 04:27 AM
There's an archway that has a sign next to it about a whispering archway or something like that -- you can hear someone whispering into the wall on the other side. It's easier to find than I'm making it sound...

Plan on meeting there, unless newt has a better idea.

We were planning on meeting today, Eulogic (and others interested).

I'll be at Union Station close to 1:00 (an hour from this moment!) with my wife, Addie -- wearing a green t-shirt. Newt and Bahamut should be close behind. Where we go from there will depend on how many people show up...

Moseph

So are you people still going to be around tomorrow, or should I attempt to track you down today?

Eulogic
06-27-2009, 01:09 AM
I can't come tonight. Friday is D&D night. I probably can't come tomorrow either. My fiancée is getting in after being in DC for a week. Sunday should be good though.

Bahamut
06-29-2009, 07:25 AM
Nope...apparently people didn't pay attention to the thread that much? In any case, Bardic, his wife, Newt, and I hung out over the weekend in the area.

Neo Samus
06-29-2009, 07:27 AM
Sorry to hear that. If I didn't have prior engagments I would gladly have come. Maybe it was the location that was the issue?

Moseph
06-29-2009, 02:59 PM
No, the issue for me was that it was never mentioned in the thread until an hour (!?) beforehand that people were getting together on the 26th rather than the 27th, and no one gave any other info after that, so I didn't know if people were still here over the weekend, and if they were, where to find them.

I think the issue might have been the question mark in the thread title could have been missleading to some.

Eulogic

I think the issue was more that it says June 27-28 in the title, while people actually met up on the 26th. As Moseph said.

06-30-2009, 04:55 AM
Oh crap you're right...I thought it was understood that we were going to hang out on Friday. Bah...major mistake on my part.

On the flipside, I'm probably planning on having a BBQ in Champaign, IL in early/mid August - I'm thinking August 15th atm (should be a Saturday) if people are interested.
