I know the thread has swung a bit from "thanks" to "terrabytes," but considering I've been following this project since thread page 20 or so and have contributed nothing, I wanted to voice my appreciation to Claado, Compy, StarZander and everyone working on the project. Sorry I'm a bit late in doing so. ;) CT has been my favorite RPG (one of my fave games period) since I first played it in 97, and I've been waiting for something like this to come along. Of all the game music I've heard and loved, I can't think of any soundtrack I'd rather hear orchestrated than this. My hat's off to you all for pulling it off- it's like a dream come true, guys.
No pressure or anything. ;)

Would it be difficult to simply release WAVs rather than a CD iso? I would think it would be more inconvenient considering many people have MP3 players now, and all of us here obviously listen to quite a bit of music on our computers. I know at least a few people (myself included) that would simply mount the image, rip it with DBpoweramp to WAVs, and then never touch the thing again. It would be no extra effort on your part to just release WAVs rather than an iso, as far as I'm aware.
What are your thoughts on this?

Like I told you already... I won't release a FLAC/mp3 version this time. If that's a waste of space in times of 400+GB HDDs... your thing. Final word on that.
The main computer I use has a HD of just under 20 gigs. My new computer has under 30. In fact, I don't know anybody who has a computer with over 100 gigabytes.
So you don't know me? Me and my 200+ gigs of hard drive space are sad... :(
I anxiously await the release.
...
Teehee.

I'm making a CD anyway if I do projects like that (else I can't render to mp3 or any format I like, which is actually the extra effort). So I already have the ISO's... ISO's are nothing else than the WAVs, but already in it's "CD" form.
Like you said, zircon: "mount", encode to any format you like. Can't get any simpler.

Is anyone actually using them? I've gotten a few people mentioning they'd like versions with no logo or quote on them whatsoever. It's still related to the project, but it's not as much of an advertisment as the original. Anyone want unblemished versions? I'm up for it if people are after it.
Well Eon, I can definitely say I'm using them, on my laptop, as I'm actually running it on 1024x768. My desktop, like I would imagine most people's computers, is at a higher resolution (mine's 1280x1024), so a hi-res version would certainly be appreciated.
Another thing I am doing though, is making "promotional" bookmarks (print them out on card stock paper, use a paper cutter to cut out) for Chrono Symphonic. It's just something I do whenever I encounter images that have the right proportions, and in this case it happened to be your sig. You wouldn't happen to have a higher-resolution version of that, would you (currently I'm printing it on just over 100 dpi, which is barely tolerable)?
If this works well maybe I'll post a snapshot of what one of these bookmarks looks like... :)
Mike
P.S. -- sephiroth2122, the easiest way to deal with an ISO would probably be to burn it onto a CD, which you can do with just about any CD burning software out there. The software that came with my computer (RecordNow) does it nicely, but there are other things like ISOBuster and such that you can download that should work.
P.P.S. -- <3 all who've worked on this project... and many thanks for your hard work and your ability to put up with all the unwarranted and uncalled for flak that you've taken over the course of the project. Looking forward to hearing it!

i like downloading the projects in ISO format, because its an image of the cd, so i wont screw something up if i try to make myself like if there needs to be a 0 second time pause between tracks. plus its jsut much more easier to handle as an iso. one file, with all the trackson it.

Technically, it would have been possible to do a limited December release, since many of us mirrors have bandwidth apportioned on a monthly basis and anything that's not used at the end of the month gets rolled over, meaning that there wouldn't have been a lot of need to worry about distributing server stress equally. However, that wouldn't have been fair or particularly smart... just possible. I support the decision to delay it.

Question for anyone in the know- which version of Far Away Times ended up on the album? Orchestral or non orchestral?
movally
01-02-2006, 11:31 AM
Equin: So they are overburned? Hmm, I thought I saw some CD's that had a 900 meg limit and thought that SOMEHOW they managed to put the sectors even closer together or compact more data into each sector. Of course, how in the world most burning programs can account for that change, I dunno...
wat: The version of "To Far Away Times" was actually posted some time ago on ocremix.org. I hope that helps. Good stuff too, probably the best fan-based version I have not only heard of it, but in VGM in general.
I still dunno what the problem is with releasing ISO's. Seriously, this is actually the best for everyone. You get the ISO form and can rip it into any format your heart desires. It only requires a little (and I do mean little) work on your part. Everyone wins.

...and if you lack the HD space, why not download one disc at a time, burn it, and then dispose of it? And maybe it's town to do some hard-disk cleanup anyway :-D
So, no longer the second?

Technically... But Murphy's Law struck and things like that can always happen. No need to whine about that. It will be out when it's out.
Question for anyone in the know- which version of Far Away Times ended up on the album? Orchestral or non orchestral?
"To Far Away Times" will come out as Piano and Vocal version. The orchestra version wasn't planned to be released and was a mistake to be published earlier. Sorry.
I've got ants in my pants.
HELP...ME...
Well... then take a shower! And don't crawl around anymore in the woods (especially on ant hills).
REally now... like Aurora Firestorm quoted again, and Claado said yesterday. The releasedate will be at that "day" when all three get together at the same date. Didn't happen yesterday though. Else you would have seen the release on the mainpage.
Patience... we're still in the 10th Anniversary year. Till september 2006 to be precise

I got some private suggestions in terms of the "humongus bass" that seems to be caused by subwoofers. I'll take a look at that in the remastering, but keep in mind:
An orchestra is a very dynamic "bulk of sound" (so to say). Timpanis and Strings can get pretty heavy in lower frequencies. Also an orchestra is not "compressed" in any way. So if your Subwoofer craps out, simply reduce the volume of it, setup your bass management correctly, and make a cutoff (hicut) at 150Hz if your subwoofer can do that (also if the bass is still too intense, move it 1m away from the wall9. It's a "support" after all.
I won't go indepth on setting up a 2.1 or 5.1 environment "properly", cause that's what manuals and online tutorials are for. Just those simple tricks.
Thanks, and I'll keep you informed about the "Special Edition".
And like Larry said, everything else goes into the official comments and feedback (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=74148) thread please.

Now I got the special edition songs from the website, but I wanted the ISO for the cds I would burn.
Alas, when I started the torrent, there were no ISOs, only flac and mp3.
Soo.....help?
edit: and the songs are all teeny tiny. I expect that's from compression, but that's exactly why I would want the larger ISOs with full CD quality. But why 3 cds? They almost all fit on one, and with SE on the third cd...it seems a waste. I guess I'll just put it with the second CD, but then the album art doesn't match and arrggghhh. I always like extra songs, this SE thing is cool, but maybe a bit more support for these 4 extras?

Those "Special Audition" (not Special Edition - there's a difference) files don't relate to the "Special Edition". They aren't even mastered from myself. I thought StarSander put them down for the release, even after my request, but he didn't.
And like PLBenjamin said... you can't have the Special Edition, cause I didn't finish it yet. And no... I don't give out a releasedate.

The songs are "tiny" due to the original songlengths. The mp3s are in 192kbit VBR and the FLACs have "strongest compression" activated. Also C.S. doesn't fit on one CD. Both CDs have a running time of 86:53 alltogether, so they won't fit on a regular 74min CD.
The CDs are split up due to a reason, and it's compeltely fine. What will be on the "3rd" CD is already known too. Just go a couple of pages (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=45588&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=1725) back, I listed what will be on there. Always remember... not only the audio material has a specific filesize (1min around 10MB-11MB), but also the "bonus material".
That's all the support I can give you atm.

Out of curiosity, and this may not be possible, but do any of the artists have sheet music for the two piano tracks? (Darkness Dueling and To Far Away Times) It would be pretty neat to be able to play some of that. I don't know how the remixing process works, if the artists know what the sheet music is like, that sort of thing. Just wondering if it's a possibility.
Compyfox
01-11-2006, 12:40 AM
I know for a fact that there is no MIDI available from "To Far Away Times" (cause I wanted to try out some other pianos and stuff), therefore there is no score sheet that we could have made out of it.
Guess you have to ask the mixers directly or write your own one.

Well. You guys did clear up things quite a bit.
And yes, CS is longer than one CD, I did check this out (I like to do a little research so I don't sound like a complete moron more than I have to.)edit: the preceding text in parenthesis should be changed to the following- I have the eyesight of a cave salamander, and the brain capacity of one to boot.
But but but, and I know this will likely just get me corrected more, let me say a few things.
edit: whole section removed because of my stupidity
Now, here is something you might want to consider. Those songs you told me were "Special Audition" and not "Special Edition"... let me post the file name and tag for ya:
File:SE - Determined (PLBenjaminZ).mp3
Title:SE - Determined (PLBenjaminZ)
see those little thingies that say SE? That quite tricked me.
And I had this huge, huge, post ready that would've made Webster get bored but, while looking for a quote, I found Compy's little nice explanation of the Special Edition. Ok. Let's all point at the me and laugh.
Eagerly awaiting the SE. Then I can scrap the expensive printable CDs that I made and remake 'em.
Patience is a virtue, and here I messed up.
I would like to know about Special Edition album art though: possibility or no?

I requested this a couple of times now, Star didn't put the files down. Blame him, please. It was fault due to misinterpretation, not lisetning and not forwaring requests. And that's still taking place.
I say it once again:
The "SE" files on chrono.ocremix.org don't reflect the "Special Edition" or the mastering of the "Regular Edition" in any way. They're the files that were released as teasers months ago and didn't change since then.

Was also already answered with a "yes".
Can't answer questions till next week thuesday (I'm not available till then). So please don't hijack this thread. I'll post new informations as soon as they're relevant.
Ah yeah to those who think this "Special Edition" is a "thing by Compyfox only, which has nothing to do with Chrono Symphonic anymore and is just to show off":
You're wrong!
I'm still the engineer of this project, Claado still says what goes on the CDs and what not (in other words... his word counts - nothing else). I didn't take over anything or stole "the project". This Special Edition idea came up last year October/November, Claado agreed to the idea, developed it with me and gave me free hand in terms of the release.
It's still "his" project and no emo roll from my side. Whoever started this BS... thanks, but I don't need anymore of that crap.
Just to clear the rumors and false information.
EDIT:
Closing this one till I have some news for you. Keep your eyes open for that.

From now on, till the official release, I'll post infos in irregular intervals to keep you a bit "on the edge".
So let's get down to bussiness!
 Official Releasedate: TBA
*stays like that till the CD is really finished - and no, I don't even give out rough estimated release dates*
 Format of the Release: Audio CDs (via torrent)
 The "Special Edition" will feature 10(!) extra tracks additional the "Regular Edition" released in January.
 The production code of the Bonus CD is "Return Through Time"
 The planned playlist order of the Bonus CD might be something like this (changes possible!):
TRACK 01 - Compyfox feat. Kevin "Lorenzo" Sisk - Prologue (featuring narration by Kevin Sisk as "Gaspar")
TRACK 02 - Emperor - The Story Begins
TRACK 03 - SirRus - In Search of Light (completely reconstructed)
TRACK 04 - PLBenjaminZ - Determinded
TRACK 05 - Tyler Heath (Unknown) - Predetermination
TRACK 06 - Rexy - Belthasar's Opus (Source Tune: "The Epoch")
TRACK 07 - Rexy - Peak of Incantation (Source Tune: "Singing Mountain")

TRACK 09 - Reuben Kee/pixietricks - To Far Away Times (Orchestrated Version)
TRACK 10 - Compyfox - Epilogue
 The "Special Edition" will also include several Bonus Material like recorded Interviews, Production Reports, Outtakes and more...
This is all for the time being. More in the next weeks.
And once again, sorry for the delay.

To those who missed the VGF show yesterday, that featured the whole Chrono Symphonic project, I have a bootleg recording till Larry releases VGF#84 officially.
Unfortunately I only have 1 interview recorded due to my Wavelab messing around. VGF#84 however featured additional interviews with Rexy and Kevin "Lorenzo" Sisk. So all I can say for the time being is "keep your eyes open" and get the official release over at the VG Frequency (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24500) thread as soon as it's out.
You can get the recordings here:
 VGF#84 Chrono Symphonic Special - Interview: Compyfox (http://www.studio-compyfox.de/guestartist/vgfrequency/Larry%20Oji%20(Liontamer)%20-%20VG%20Frequency%2084%20CS%20Compyfox%20Interview .mp3) (33:35min, 24,1MB, mp3pro)
 VGF#84 Chrono Symphonic Special - Exclusive Bonus Footage (http://www.studio-compyfox.de/guestartist/vgfrequency/Larry%20Oji%20(Liontamer)%20-%20VG%20Frequency%2084%20CS%20Exclusive%20Footage. mp3) (36:34min, 26,4MB, mp3pro)
The "Exclusive Bonus Footage" featured the following tracks as "beta versions" and/or previously unreleased tracks:
TRACK 01 - Compyfox feat. Kevin "Lorenzo" Sisk - Prologue
TRACK 02 - Emperor - The Story Begins
TRACK 03 - SirRus - In Search of Light (non-reconstructed)
TRACK 04 - PLBenjaminZ - Determinded
TRACK 05 - Unknown - Predetermination
TRACK 06 - Rexy - Peak of Incantation
TRACK 07 - PLBenjaminZ - The Final Battle
TRACK 08 - Reuben Kee - To Far Away Times (Orchestra only Version - the "Special Edition" will feature the vocal version, this was only a bonus!)
Please keep in mind that the "Special Edition" is not finished yet, neither does the recording reflect the final product. Just see it as a "sneak preview".
That's it for now, more again soon...

Actually, no.
The Regular Edition (with 25 Tracks) will get 10 additional tracks (which is the bonus disc). All in all... 35 tracks on 3 CDs. That's all "without" the bonus stuff like "outtakes", interviews, etc.
At least this is how it is planned.

Can we get a little update? How are things coming along? (I'm excited)

Yeah sorry about that (being absent and stuff). Things coming along slowly, but smoothly. If I could clone myself, I'd do so.
Some "slight" news for you however:
One track of the regular edition is actually being processed in terms of "enhancement". It's still not 100% sure, but Claado works on a longer version of "The Third Guru" (CD2).
Still can't tell you more than you already know. We don't give out releasedates this time either, cause this would only cause frustration again. It's out when it's out. And it will be good. This is all I can give you on the way.

So, erm.. Compy still working on this? Koelsch1 had a mix passed while he was still banned, so I guess it's up to him.

I'm guessing this project is KIA? Darn shame...

Not dead, really. Just...not that alive. Sorta hit by a car and left in the street, bleeding. But someone HAS called an ambulance, and resuscitation is hopefully on the way.
Basically, Compy relayed to me that he's restarted work, but he has other things on his mastering platter, so...don't expect it to be done any time soon, but it should be forthcoming.

Any word on the special edition?

It seems that it's not going to happen. At least, that's what djpretzel says in the writeup for this release (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01525/). I don't know if that's changed since Compyfox is back now, but he hasn't mentioned it.

Oh, missed that. Well, I guess that pretty much closes the door on this one.

I was away for a week, and when I got back I had gotten no less than TWO fanmails about Chrono Symphonic, and I haven't gotten any for over a year. First of all, I don't understand why they email me instead of Claado Shou, and second... What made them mail this around teh same time? Coincidence? Or has Chrono Syphonic been featured somewhere? Nothing special in the mails. I'll quote them here:

I need to know who to get in touch with about the Movie Project. Who
the main coordinator of the efforts of the script and outliners. I
want to know how to get involved in making this a reality.
Roelof Konijnenberg
Hey dude,
I just wanted to say....well, dunno how to say it, but "wow" comes closest I guess. Chrono Symphonic might just be the most awesome thing I ever heard.....kudos to you and everyone else working on this.....
Peace out,

Just letting you guys know that before I ever touched Chrono Trigger, I was listening to Chrono Symphonic. The music got me into the game, and after playing the game mostly through, I sat down with the script and a pair of headphones and just listened/read for a couple of hours. I'm pretty sure I was moved to tears at some point. Special edition or not, CS is a wonderful contribution to the fan community and the remixer community in general, and I thank you guys a ton.
I cranked out some fan art during that time but I'm too lazy to dig it up, so... yeah. XD

Chrono Symphonic is the devil...because now I have to create a series of live-action movies for Chrono Trigger (four to be exact) in my lifetime. Hopefully many of you folks involved with this project will not drop off the radar between now and then because it would be a shame not to be able to create a score from a track or at least a similar sounding score for the movie because we couldn't find the original authors. Getting the game composers involved will be hard enough without having to scour the Internet for a trace of someone who's been out of contact for years...

Hey,
I just wanted to let you know. On the Chrono Symphonic site, this link not only did not work, but linked me to a virus:

Thought you should know. Otherwise, excellent website design and concept for one of my favorite games.

Just got this in my mail. FYI.

A virus? Huh. Well either way, I lost that domain name some months ago, so removing any links to kylejcrb.com would probably be best. :(

I made this post in the other Chrono Symphonic thread. Just want to make sure that anyone who checks this thread sees this also.
As many people on this forum know, I am an editor of the increasingly well-known Chrono Trigger Novel Project (linked to in my sig). We're seeking official publication and are very close to sending out chapters to Square. They know of our existence and we have not been C&D'ed, so that alone is an indication that they're willing to give us a shot. We've been writing & editing the novel as well as collecting signatures for an official petition to Square Enix indicating the fans really do want this.
We made an appearance at MAGFest last year to bolster publicity and gain signatures. We made a few small waves and got cozy with some of the OCR community. Ever since, I've been getting more involved here in addition to working on the CTNP.
We're definitely going to return for MAGFest VI, and this time we want to really make ourselves known with an official event. This event will probably be a dramatic reading of some selections from the novel, followed by a Q&A session. We'd gain more attention this way, and it's better than just asking for signatures.
We were hoping that, in order to make the dramatic reading more... well... dramatic, the appropriate Chrono Symphonic track could play in the background for whatever scenes we choose to read. It could serve as an unofficial alliance between these two organizations, and I think it would work out really well.

This may seem weird for this project, but what is the possibility of music scores for this? Something along the lines of piecing together a full score for the entire "movie". I'd love to see something like that, and I'd be willing to piece all the, well, pieces/tracks together into a score. Perhaps that would help later on down the line.
But then you have to ask yourselves, do you leave the instrumentation for each track as is or expand to a full film orchestra setting?
Hmm.
Still, I would love to be able to review the scores for each track. I'm just weird like that.

I think the majority of remixers on this project sequenced their pieces in a piano roll environment, rather than with programs like Finale or Sibelius... thus converting those projects to readable scores would definitely be an undertaking. Plus, considering the age of the project, it is not likely that all the project files are still available. You would almost be better off simply transcribing by ear.
Ouberion

The only problem I would have with transcribing it by ear is that I might end up standardizing the instrumentation across the board prior to transcribing. Transcribing would probably be an undertaking as well, but I'm up for the challenge. I just don't want to end up with an instrumentation that requires changes to the score.
I'd like to poll to see what files are still available, and then work from there. Piano roll isn't that hard to read, but then again I started with that, so I know a few tricks I can use.
Wouldn't it be great if everything was in MIDI format...just to make it a generic place to start?
I think the first question I should ask is whether or not this would be worth the time. I would like to think it would be worth the time, especially if there is a chance this might actually come to fruition as a movie.
What do you all think? I want to do it, but I also want all the remixers to say it's alright first. After all, it is their work, first and foremost. (And Mitsuda and Uematsu, of course.)
I did mine in Sibelius so if anyone wants the sheet music that's cool.
I don't know why anyone would though, I like it less and less everyday :)

I'm sorry to hear that you don't like your remix.
The one thing I was going to be insistent on is that I would prefer not to mess with the orchestration / arrangement of the piece. Arrangement is the thing I was trying to lock in, but the instrumentation may end up varying. But anyways...
My original plan was to take all the files I can get a hold of and the current version of the script and tie the two together. For now, I may end up creating a piano reduction of all the files and then reorchestrating it against the script. That, of course, means that I'll be doing a "rough" script recording. Just to get a bit of timing down, that's all.
Get an "anime" version together and I'll tie the music to it with Finale 2007. I'll at least come up with something...besides "Chrono Trigger: The Musical"...LOL! ~~Nyuck Nycuk~
