If your unfamiliar with the FAC, here is some interesting reading material.

FAQ

What is the Fan Art Competition?
The Fan Art Competition is a monthly event where artists create some form of art based on a certain theme.

What is the theme?
The theme is decided by the winner of the previous months competition (most of the time) and must be video game related.

Who can submit art?
Anyone.

What are my restrictions?
You are allowed to submit one entry, but other than that there are no restrictions. There are no size, quality, image size restrictions.

Who decides the winner?
The OCR community. Anyone who wants to vote, can vote.

How does voting work?
You vote for your three favorite entries, from first to third. These entries are given points based on the order in which you voted for them in. For example,

1st. Rambo
2nd. bonzai
3rd. Nyuura

In this case, Rambo would get 3 points, bonzai would get 2, and Nyuura would get 1 (although Nyuura gets three most of the time).

When and how do we see the results?
After the voting period is over, I'll announce the winner and show the tallied scores for all entries.

If I enter the contest can I vote?
Yes, and voting for yourself is allowed if you really want to.

Rules and Regulations!
1) Any art submitted must be based off of the months theme.
2) No nudity.
3) Your entry must be created within the month. It cannot have been something you've created in the past or partially finished prior to the announcement of the theme.
4) All entries must be 100% your work. Simply altering something created by someone else may be cool, but is not allowed as an entry.

I think MVC2 was a bit more stable than thge first, but it was still a bitch. However, I became good at it after the first few plays.

Dreamcast, such an underrated-yet-badass system. I shall be deveoping ideas today.

Does it have to be about the games, or can it simply be Marvel character(s) vs. Capcom character(s)? Any characters I'd draw are probably in the game anyway, but just making sure ^_^

This may be a no-brainer, but I figured I should give it a shot anyways. Is the subject strictly for Marvel vs. Capcom, or the vs. games in general? Because I was thinking about doing a Capcom vs. SNK one, but it's alright if it's limited to just Marvel vs. Capcom. :-)

I have a question...

Is this solely about the game Marvel vs Capcom (as in, only characters and settings from the actual game are allowed), or is this more about Marvel characters fighting Capcom characters in general (as in, all characters from either universe are fair game)?

I guess if you all are ok with it being Marvel Vs Capcom going beyond the two games... Any character/s from either universe either fighting, combination or whatever you wanna do with the spirit of the game still behind the idea.

Edit: I'm guessing that, to be fair, if we're not drawing a character you can find in either of the 2 games, it has to be a Marvel character doing something vs a Capcom character, to stay in the subject/context

I finally got around to concocting something. It's been in my head ever since the theme was announced, I just couldn't get around to doing it because I suck at drawing people, and I suck more at drawing people trying to do things, namely action scenes.

But since I've bought this new printer/scanner and somewhat learned how to color my pictures in Photoshop, I can finally submit something! YAY!

Things just got interesting for me. According to the front page of blizzard.com, the Blizzard Fan Art Competition is now available to people in other countries (e.g. me), but it doesn't say which countries! All I know is that at some point I'm going to draw a Blizzard picture and a Marvel vs. Capcom picture. The FAC deadline is a week Sunday, while the Blizz competition ends on the Friday right before... which means if I put all I've got into the Blizzard entry, I'm only gonna have 2 days to draw Marvel vs Capcom! And knowing me, those two days are going to disappear like hotcakes in a place where hotcakes typically disappear.

What do I dooo?? :puppyeyes:

As for me... I'm gonna do what I usually do and leave the FAC to the last minute and come up with something quick that's not super polished ^_^ Or if I finish my Blizzard picture early, I might start the FAC drawing early too.

Also, all the good Marvel vs. Capcom ideas I can think of involve characters/games I know almost nothing about... well, I'll think of something eventually.

Good news for me: I procrastinated so much that I didn't draw anything for the Blizzard contest so it gave me more time for the FAC! But I waited too long to post this, because I didn't actually start drawing anything for the FAC yet.

Question, Did you do this off of photos?(i am assuming you did) Also,if it is, is this considered an acceptable entry? I only ask because i did an entry with a similar idea but wasnt acceptable since the original drawings of the characters were not mine. Which is acceptable, i only ask for future reference if Photos are usable instead of drawings. Does that make sense?

It looks to me like Cottus&Gyes did the vector art himself (whether or not he traced it directly over the photos), while yours (despite looking awesome) seems to use the original art more directly (edited only through filters as opposed to manual vector drawing). But I'll wait for official word on whether Cottus&Gyeseses's would have been acceptable or not.

actually i converted the original artwork into vector art, each character is 3 separate layers of edited vector art. But i understand what you mean. I completely understand why mine wouldnt be accepted, like i said, i was wondering more about Cottus for future reference in case i decided to do something like that. i love doing stuff like that.

I really debated whether or not I should chime in on this, as it could open a whole host of canned worms. Talking about what is and isn't original has lead to so many arguments in the past, and hurt feelings as well. But...

DJ Mighty- The problem with going that route, is that it's hard to call the end result original when it's using another person's pre-existing photos and such as its base. Even when you add layer upon layer of effects, filters, lines, shading and such, it's still really just a tweaked version of what someone else made.

I believe by "original", bonzai! means work you made from scratch on your own, without recreating what others have already done (be it in drawings, photos, paintings, etc.). Images like the one you and Cottus&Gyes made, while nice, don't really fall into the realm of original work. Not because effort wasn't put into it, but because of the source of the images within them.

If you both drew up your own takes on those characters in your compositions, then it could be considered original fan art, as it would no longer involve drawn over or filtered movie posters, screen grabs, and the like. But as it is, I don't think they can be called original works.

They're kind of like remixes in a way. You take a source tune, and reinterpret it. The end result is a remix, and not an original song. Well, that's more or less what you guys did, just in a visual fashion rather than an aural one :-)

Oh snap! Lots of stuff going on with my art work. Here is exactly what I did to create it. . .

I found pictures of actors from Capcom and Marvel related movies (obviously) and made them into a collage via cut and paste instead of creating new poses. Knowing I was short on time, I decided to scan my collage in and "vector". M.Bison (Raul Julia), Guile (Jean Claude Van Damme), Ironman (Robert Downy Jr.), and Cyclops (James Marsden) along with the yellow background all have their own layers (each character has 3 seperate layers one for white, red, and black) and I eye-balled the Cyclops laser beam. Hopefully this clears the obfuscation on what exactly I did.

So where the uncertainty comes in is with the pictures themselves I would assume and for that I would greatly appreciate it if Bonzai could chime in on a ruling.

I do appreciate the compliments even if it is decided as non-legitimate.

Holy shit I won! Well color me surprised (see, that's a pun since my picture was in... nevermind).

In complete seriousness, this was a damn close one (The Otaku is cursing me out right now :lol:). And honestly, I am surprised that I won. My black and white work has always been hit or miss with people, so I didn't know what to expect (especially once I tacked on the story that formed in my head as I worked on it). So, thanks for the votes and comments guys :-)

As for what I'm going with, I had a couple questions that I PMed to bonzai!. As soon as he gets back to me, I'll make my selection. Or, if he doesn't PM me by Tuesday, I'll just bug atmuh and see what he has to say since he was running FAC before.

Nice work on the pics everyone. I was happy to see the subject matter all over the place, and not just on a few really popular characters. Good stuff :-D

Oh, and the smiley had nothing to do with it, friendlyHunter. He had video proof (**shudder**) that he was home, banging his wife that night.

I had to look those terms up :lol:

But no, no shipping. I know in the Udon comics, Felicia convinces Jon to come with her so she can try to prove that there's still good in humanity, which Jon (being a human despising werewolf in the comics) refuses to believe. So they make a kind of odd "sorta friendship" there.

But, since I focused on the info given in the games for my main source draw for the bios on this site, that's what I ran with. She's generally portrayed as an upbeat, kind-hearted woman, and Jon isn't a human despising werewolf (at the end of VS, he's supposed to meet with a couple kids to teach them martial arts). So really, with a little creativity in whatever might happen before and after that scene, I don't believe what takes place in my entry is very far fetched, or canon breaking.

if i ever find out what i did with the full sketch ill send it to you. It looks a lot better. That was actually the doodle i made while i was waiting for prints at work which gave me the idea.

bonzai! got back to me, and I submitted my choice for FAC 27.

My main concern was whether or not the winner of one FAC, had to sit out the next one because they weren't eligible to compete (like what the Caption Contests around here do). He let me know that I could, so now we wait for him to make the new thread with the next subject (and no, it's not Darkstalkers ;-)).
