Hey, I haven't been keeping up on this as much as I wanted to. I had a question, E1M8 was the boss music in the first episode correct [cause I believe M9 was the secret level]? If so what happened to the remix of it? I love that music, so I was just wondering.

All 21 tracks are being remixed. Firecrackers back cover just doesn't have them all listed yet.

no red for the background takes away the feel of the rest of background, it needs to give the feel of doom but not overpower the rest of the scene...a bit vague i know but it's as close a tip as i can give right now...

TO- I can see what you're going for, but the way that you did it gives it too much of a canvas/painted look. I'm going to consider other ways of making the background more subtle.

Alright this has come to my attention, so I'll address it now in public.

This is a PM I sent to Claude regarding his album design:
To be completely honest with you and not cut any corners, I've always stated in the thread that Global Trance would make the final cover art for the project. The art pieces coming up in the thread were never considered to be the final covers/designs, etc.

However, I do realise that a lot of time was spent by yourself and others working on these designs so they will be available on the site as alternate covers.

I know this isn't going to make everyone happy, and I apologize for that, but this has already been worked out and whatnot. Hopefully, the idea of an "alternate cover" section on the site will appeal to the artists.

Now, the time has come to ask for seeds and mirrors. I will begin sending out files sometime this weekend or Monday. If you have any interest in being a SEED (as in Bittorrent) for the initial release - the torrent will consist of both the .flacs and the .mp3s - speak now so I can add your name to a LIST. Likewise, if you think you will be able to offer a mirror of the MP3s ONLY.

You know, to me Doom has always been about THE CHAINSAW and THE SHOTGUN and blasting the heck out of the ugly monsters instead of all this Mars-space-survival-horror-thingie.

The sweet aroma of gunpowder and the calming noise of the idling chainsaw.. OH HELL YEAH.

Interesting that most people seem to have this weird sci-fi image on their heads about Doom. Even the whole theme of this project is based on that. I´d rather see bloody chainsaws and shotgun barrels as the theme of the project instead of.. well.. planets. Not that I´m complaining or anything, this is gonna kick ass and I like the layout... It´s just interesting.

It seems that the general DOOM-image today is based thoroughly on Doom 3. Doom 3 is cool as hell with its Alien-kinda sci-fi movie business, but what happened to the sweet DEMON-MAYHEM of the first ones?

To me, Doom3 was a bit of a disappointment (not a huge though, I like that game) cause it was all about sneaking and SURVIVING. It´s just few monsters at a time, and you can´t BLAST them cause the shotgun is useless and the sound of it is a wimpy "click" instead of the colossal BLAM from Doom 1.

SHIT. I want to wave my shotgun to hundreds of demons and blast them all back to hell.
And I want my shotgun to go CLICK only when I´m outta ammo.

I think after our "lynching" of his website design; GT's been a bit apprehensive about showing off his work. For good reason.

I don't really care too much about what people have to say about my work (unless it's just to tear it down). I just haven't really shown anything because I have three jobs and summer school outside of this project, a few others, and lots of social related issues. If you guys don't really care for the design that'll come out of this, I'm sorry then.

Concerning the cover art... I like the cover art that's been posted so if you guys want to use it, that's perfectly fine with me... I will say that, in my opinion, some of the designs posted are great and I don't really see why I still need to do one if the ones already up are good enough. But since Myth still wants me to do my own cover art... I guess I have to.

Half of the songs in the first Doom rip off something from popular metal songs, so that really shouldn't make much of a difference.

Precisely. There are more Song rips in Doom 1 than there are in Doom 2. So it's not a problem. DJP and the judges made a decision in the end that unless they have verbal or written evidence from someone who would be able to tell us if the pieces are rips (ie: Prince or Romero) then they can't make the call on whether it's a rip or not.

For the last few months, a factually incorrect email message has circulating around the Internet containing the following text:

"The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.... Share this with your children and grandchildren. NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN. "

This "information" combines details that were correct about the August 2003 Mars opposition, when it was in fact closer to Earth than it had been for 60,000 years, with the false and physically impossible claim that it would appear "as large as the full moon." Neither of these statements is true. However, Mars will be very bright and easy to observe during the fall of this year. Here are some of the facts about viewing Mars in 2005:

1. Mars will be closest to Earth in 2005 on October 29 or 30, depending on your time zone. The actual date of Mars opposition -- the moment when Earth and Mars are at precisely the same longitude with respect to the Sun -- is November 7, 2005. But because of the non-circular shapes of Mars' and Earth's orbits, Mars gets closest to the Earth a week earlier.

2. Because of the combination of Earth and Mars' orbital periods, Mars and Earth grow closer every 26 months. Even then, they are still many tens of millions of kilometers (or miles) away from each other.

3. Martian close approaches vary a lot in brightness because Mars' orbit is much more elliptical (less circular) than Earth's. So, sometimes we are "close" to it when it is in the part of its orbit that is nearest the Sun, and sometimes when it is farthest in its orbit from the Sun.

4. Mars was closer to Earth in the 2003 close approach than it had been in tens of thousands of years, but not by much compared to approaches that happened tens of years ago.

5. In 2005, Mars will be farther than it was in 2003, but it will still be a very good apparition. It will get brighter than the brightest star in the sky, but not nearly as bright as Venus. It will still be great to go out and see. (It will be brighter than -2 magnitudes for those who are familiar with that system of brightness.)

6. Mars never appears large enough to appear as more than a point of light to the naked eye (certainly not coming anywhere near the apparent size of the Moon in our sky).

7. Mars will be about 20 arcseconds across during this close approach, which is about 5 arcseconds smaller than in 2003. But, the disk will be quite clear in almost any small telescope. A nice amateur telescope should allow you to see at least a polar cap and some light and dark markings on the surface. It will be southern summer on Mars, however, and the south pole will be tilted towards us, so the southern polar cap will be small.

Please fight the misinformation circulating around the Internet by replying to any well-meaning person who forwards you the Mars message with the facts above. But don't tell people not to look up! We shouldn't need an excuse like "closest approach for 60,000 years" to look up and see the planets.

Right now, if you look to the west shortly after sunset you can see Jupiter and Venus shining brightly in the sky. Venus will be ascending over the coming months, while Jupiter will be descending. On September 1, the two pass very close to each other. Right now, Mars rises around midnight. For a real sky light show, go out on August 11, 12, or 13 to look for "shooting stars;" the Perseid meteor shower peaks on August 12. For weekly information about what's up in the sky, listen to The Planetary Society's Planetary Radio, where in the last several minutes of each show we cover easy things to look for in the night sky.

I highly doubt Mythril is purposely making you all suffer so much while waiting for the release of this; he's probably doing things like finalizing parts of the website, setting up all the mirrors, and making sure the torrent will be seeded well when the project is ready to go. Would you rather the project get released now and then have something malfunction that prevents you from downloading it and tacks on another couple days of waiting for the release, or would you like to be able to grab it without a problem in a couple hours? :P
