I've always been a huge fan of Capcom, and 8-bit music. NES Bionic Commando's soundtrack had quite an impact on me when I first heard it, back in my childhood. Now, after 6 releases in the BC series, and almost twenty years, it's time to tribute it.
Even if Simon Viklund has redone the entire soundtrack for BC: Rearmed, we still can do it our way, and .. what better than an OC-Remix project .

john - how about me, you and level 99 do the opening - a big militaristic thing with guitars and orchestra - we'll figure out the arrangement and get you to put some orchestral sex down and we'll be gold and have a fantastic way to open the album

Sounds awesome!. I'll check the track as a collab. BTW, do you have any outline/structure for the piece in mind? Hearing the track i'm coming with a couple of ideas, maybe we should discuss this through PM.

Now this is what I've been waiting for!
Few questions:
-Do you have a deadline for the first WIP already?
-And what musical style are you looking for this project?
-Is there any other specific restrictions/conditions?
I'd like to claim Area 8 if possible. ;-)

being that it's such a big track i'd like to blow it up and develop some of the ideas - i'll do some listening over the week and get back to you - and do some taking to stevo - this should be fun xD

AF is gonna turn this into Might of Baron part 2:
"a big militaristic thing with guitars and orchestra"
And that's far from a bad thing. I'll be listening this week and formulating some guitar bits. We can talk about this more through PM or online, but just let me know if I should start preparing some noodling and battling. :-o

Honestly not sure what I could do, but I'd be up for a collab if anyone wants...

-Anything you want. What i want is it to be quality music, so you'll have to put some real effort in whatever you do. Ah, yeah, preferably something GROOOVY *earthworm jim face*
-None.. yet. :-P .

I'm afraid there are no synths in it... its a minimalist track with a theremin, a guitar with two broken strings and a triangle.
Ok I kid, its a synth crazy one
Also John, check your PMs i've sent you a WIP.

Everybody get your tracks going, this is a project I'm thinking could be done fast. ...unlike certain other projects (http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14083), for which you should also get your tracks done. If you're on that project. :P

ROUGH WIP DUE DATE - December 1st
..Really? You made it the EXACT same day the 1st WIPs for NiGHTs are due in? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!
 I'm just yanking yer chain. Seriously though, I'm just giving fair warning that one of two things are going to happen: either the WIP will be in WAAAAY ahead of schedule, or if it gets to around that time I may ask for the smallest of extensions if I get overwhelmed with NiGHTs stuff.

Considering since the track I'm doing is a collab with him and Audio Fidelity, I have a feeling I honestly don't have to worry too much. He has a WIP due for NiGHTs that same day, looks like we're both gonna be busy with stuff, heh.

ALRIGHT, so I've been pretty behind on my serious-song-makings, but I've got some free time now. So depending on the way my day goes today (after I wake up of course) I should either have a delicious WiP by the end of today/tomorrow, or a satisfactory, less flavorful WiP by the end of today/tomorrow. I'll be working on both this and my Boss Themes WiP, but I'm determined to get this WiP done ASAP.

I'm pretty sure Will already has the same level of decision-making power on this project, plus he might be equally busy with uni work right now.
Juan had a string of badluck with his computer recently, so he may need some time to get back up and running before he can resume his duties.
Last time I checked, he was determined to get this album done, so just give the man a break. After all, he's not a Bionic ...none of us are. :-D

Even MORE bad luck with his computer? That's not good. He was having computer issues over the Summer as well.

Hey, I just wanna say that I still intended to work on my track. I've had a few small setbacks that aren't really worth talking about, and I also want to work extra hard to present something with a decent amount of polish right off the bat. I've been making throwaway tracks for so long that I think I've become lazy in that regard. Anyways, I love the source tune I selected, and I am definitely going to put effort into a remix. 8)

The computer is FINALLY fixed. When you make your own computer, you gotta be careful about possible component incompatibilities, and check if the components were handled properly during shipping (for instance, my 3d card was broken, because there was no foam http://www.bestbag.com.mx/media/Foam$20Antiestatico.jpg in the box, so the card was broken while it was shipped).
Now I gotta get myself a 64-bit version of windows 7.
I know i haven't been around much, but third year of engineering demands a lot of work. But don't worry, this project will be finished . In the worst case, i'll pull out all my remaining wips in the summer vacation, and polish the whole album :-D My idea is to do at least one track these christmas.
EDIT : Now that i read the posts above, if Willrock wants, i can name him director. I don't mind, because i've been absent for a lot of time. However, I still answer questions at the forums, check the wips and provide criticism. All the posts you do on the bcforum reach my mail :D ATM, I guess im more like a really crappy assistant XD

In that case, for now i'll take control as the main director of Bionic Commando if you don't mind john, its more ideal for everyone because i'm on ocr more than you... that said, feel free to step in when you have more time, i'm pretty busy myself :P
I'll get going with moving this thing forward.

I might be interested in taking a shot at the map theme, depending on the atmosphere of your other tracks so far. What I have in mind would be a calm, mostly acoustic, sort of campfire-side tune. "Ok, We'll Stop For The Night" or something. Can't promise anything at this point so you don't need to stop looking for a less risky candidate to fill the slot. I won't expect you to trust me with anything until I have something to show.
Oh, and if you've already achieved your laid-back quota for the project, that's fine too.

It's good, we can have more than one remix per track. :-)
Ask Willrock about forum information.

He actaully hasn't been online since he made that post. Hence why I didn't chase him up. If he happens to read this tho, or anyone else for that matter I'm happy to take on anyone who has anything to contribute.

Alright, after so long I'm finally getting something significant done with my track. The format that I used to use really doesn't allow me to do much with it, so I'm basically remaking my template from scratch and moving my arrangement to it.
Just an FYI - there's something a-comin', from me.

John, could you open up Neutral Area? Demonstray didn't hit the deadline :(
Brandon Strader

Well that's unfortunate. I listened to it and it's like one short repeating part. It would be super hard to make a mix of that which isn't repetitive or too liberal. It might work well as a laid back, jazzy type piece. Maybe see if Josh Morse is interested, you never know. He's made some pretty good mixes from some pretty not-good sources before. :-D And I'm not saying this source isn't good, it's just short.

I'll do the neutral area. Just wait 'til my other track is done, then give me another two and a half years to complete it. It'll be fucking gold, man.

Being honest....I'm not too much of a fan of that track.. but some people are just incredible at arrangement, and I'm really curious to hear what a talented musician can do with it. :DDD

Where does this project stand right now? Not much activity in a few months, which has me worried, because Bionic Commando has some fantastic music and a project is perfect for it.

I recently did a finished wip for my track.. Been waiting for feedback for a long time, but seems like all the people are kinda M.I.A.
I guess I'll finish my track , and set a new deadline date.
What about October 1st?

Bionic Commando has some fantastic music
QFE. Gondamin (Junko Tamiya) was the shit back in the days. The arrangements made by Simon Viklund for BC ReArmed, the soundtrack from 2009 sequel by Jamie Christopherson, Erik Thunberg and co., as well as the kickass remixes by Machinae Supremacy stand as proof of that.
set a new deadline date. What about October 1st?

Er... yeah volenteering me to do these things isn't cool assuming you are actually being serious brandon. Juan, I haven't said I'd do anything else mixing wise with this project and if I want to, you'll hear it from me first :)

Yeah, that was pretty much a dickish move.
I didn't volunteer anyone for anything, operative words "might" also you are a dickish move kthx
I'd also like to point out Rule #5 of posting in projects:
Don't insult people/curse people off.
You broke this rule
Here's rule #2:
Volunteer to help out.
This was the rule I was following as part of posting in Projects. Here was my post:
I might know a mixer who could handle a couple of those his name is Willrock. Also I'm up for collaborating with him.
Here's a brief explanation of this post
I might know a mixer
This implies that I have an idea that is not solid
who could handle
Some who is capable of handling this mixes, not someone WHO WILL DO THIS
Also I'm up for collaborating with him
I volunteer to work on a song or songs if the person who I was unsure would be capable of doing it is interested.
Definition of might: (used to express possibility): They might be at the station.
Definition of could: (used to express conditional possibility or ability): You could do it if you tried.
I'm sorry to break out the basic reading comprehension but it seemed necessary.
It's not the first time I've told a struggling director "I might know someone who could do this" and it won't be the last regardless of whether I made this suggestion jokingly or not.

As much as I hate arguments, he has a valid point by breaking it down.
Arguments usually start over lapses of communication, I'm sure no-one WANTS an argument.

I'm pretty sure we're overeacting here, as Brandon just said "he might know a mixer who could help". I got his point right from the start, as I knew he was not volunteering Will, so no worries.
No need to argue over these forums.

An artist named Conlon nancarrow used to create music by punching holes into piano rolls for an automatic mechanical piano he developed.
He would sequence fast passages in a staggered fashion and many musicians thought his music was manually played and developed crazy new techniques to replicate the very fast syncopation. The were not aware of a mechanized piano.
The opening theme has a straight example of such music, chiptune sequencing the same as nancarrow used to do. It's nice to see old standards in new formats.
