Wow, just wow. I absolutely love the direction OcR is going with vocals, they really prove the invincibility of our remixers' competence. This track is just a perfect demonstration. I already loved Daniel's compositional work, I had no idea he had such a singing talent to go with it, very impressive!
This is worth listening to many many times, keep it up.

Well, this here is quite incredible. I disagree with Dave about the rap.. I think weed's part fits in very nicely with the track. Jesse's solos rip. This is pro.

Well, I haven't posted a review in a while, but this one just begs for one:
- Excellent singing.
- I disagree with the pretz: zyko kicks huge amounts of ass in this.
- And I must say, this is the first track that Vig has truly impressed me with. That ending is killer.
Great, great job all around.
[=EDIT=]
Well, I've had this on loop since download. I must say, it's EASILY one of my new personal favs. Truly, a fantastic song. Congrats to all.

Unique piece. Borderlines on rock and something unique. Nice guitarwork, the vocals are good at times, though I still cringe in a few areas.
What's up with the rap though? Puts me off this piece. I guess you have to like that stuff.
Background music is good without it. That guitar is just outstanding. So crisp and clear. Nice work. :nicework:

Been a while since I wrote a review... since a lot of people seem to be asking, I believe the source song is Lorenzo's Soil/ISO 2000. Anyway, this is some good, subtly cool/gritty stuff. It's got a meloncholy feel without being lethargic - especially with the rap section and the nice guitar towards the end. Speaking of which, zyko does a good job on the rap - it sounds quite natural and flows well with the song. Daniel also does a good job of putting emotion into his singing while making it sound believable, and the slight echo effect suits the overall feel well. Vigilante's guitar compliments and accents without being overpowering - very nicely done. I like how the subtle synths do a good job of setting the mood as well. The drums don't stand out too well alongside all the other outstanding material, but they're not bad at all and as djp said, the fills are tasty. Very well-produced, and definately something different for OCR.

For god sakes... this is a masterpeice. Everything is spot on; the drum work, the INCREDIBLE guitar work, Dan's voice, and zyko ripping the track. Classic. This is now my favorite remix on this site. A keeper.

Excellent track. Really. Blows me away.
Reminds me of Gorillaz's "Clint Eastwood" at times. Guitarwork is superb, and the instruments are chilling, ambient and give a confined feeling along with the echoing of Dan's voice.
Nice work, all three of you. Certainly my favorite lyrical remix now.
Edit: By the way, just so's y'all know, Lea was right. It's Lorenzen's Soil, as stated here in bold letters:

This is probably my favorite vocal ReMix because of Dan's voice. I never knew it was so amazing! zyko's rapping was a really cool additon since you wouldn't expect to hear something like it in a song with this tone. Vigilante's guitar playing is as awesome as ever, too! Nice job, guys!

This song really lends itself well to depressing visual scenes much like one would find in the night of a back alley somewhere.
Dan B's vocals really make this song great, but I felt zyko's rapping was a bit out of place. Still a great song though; I'll be listening to it for a long while.

I'm probably going to get an ass-load of people disagreeing with this, but I think Dan B. sings like some sort of male Bjork, which I'd have to say is a good thing. Personally.
Oh, and I'd have to agree that I don't like the rap, but I think it's executed well. I just don't enjoy it.

Wow. I don't post, but this was an awesome remix. I typically hate lyrics, but this was a very well done piece. Heck, I typically hate rap, but you guys did that very well. Still, personally, I think I would prefer it without the rap.
Amazing job across the board! Congrats guys.

Wow. Listening to this mix was surreal. I mean, if you had told me this was an Earthworm Jim 2 remix I would have checked the phone books for the nearest asylum. I have to say that no mix is perfect and I can find a couple gripes with it. Don't get me wrong on the vocals, I love them. They're up there with the best, quite possibly, the best. However, I felt they wavered a little. It's a great voice but it sounds like it could get some more polish and be outstanding. If he doesn't already, DB should take some vocal lessons. He'd benefit greatly from them.
As far as the rap goes, it fits in quite well. It makes me think of maybe a collab between U2 and Snoop Dogg. I bet that'd really kick ass. Anyway, the rap is done really well but I have to say that every time I listen I wince really bad on the word "fervorous." It's the way he REALLY enunciates each syllable that bothers me. I think on that particular word, less is more. heh
Don't take my griping as disliking the song. On a scale of ten, it'd be at least a 9.5 easily. I'm just making a suggestion here and there to help improve those little nuances that prevent the mix from being that perfect ten. Well done.

Wow..
THis song is really amazing. The electro rock and the first section of vocals is just great. I love it at 1:25. Then comes the awesome rap. It sounds like that group "faithless" and their song "Insomnia". The way the rap moves in and just wow.. thank god that agents haven't found you yet. because then this stuff wouldn't be free =D

its awesome... i mean the mix of singing and the rapping...i was a bit put off to hear that before listening to it, but i listen to it.. it reminded me heavily of the gorillaz and i thought it worked well in there, id like to hear more collaborative ideas from the 3

I've listened to this song 42 times. The singing is just perfect, although zyko's rapping initially bothered me, it's starting to sound quite cohesive. Excellent production.
Wow, great songs, I love the new vocal songs. The main singer in this song reminds me of someone else I've heard before.

I've gotta say, Dan's voice is AWESOME. Can't say much more about that, but zyko's rapping is excellent and the ending solo is superb. This song is one of my new favourites, great work.

The rapping reminds me of "Insomnia", as someone said above. I don't know if it fits in, but I don't mind it.
The voice is massively awesome, though. There's so much emotion at the last verse, and he doesn't remind me of any other singer...that's good, because so many voices have been trademarked nowadays. Great job, a 9 outta 10.

Wow, I am floored. :o
Vigilante Danny B, and Weed are the Chronic Trio, yo!
I've always loved Dan and Weed's tracks. Dan's got a great voice, Vigilante's guitar skillz are awesome, while zyko's rapping can grow on me on each listen. I find very little wrong with this mix as it takes the feel of Earthworm Jim to higher levels quite nicely "lyrics-wise". I'd like to see a VGMix rapper
it will never be me, kids. I'm a man of message rather than spotlights
actually step to zyko's skillz.
While Niggaz 4 Life was focused on hip-hop/rap, this mix sticks many ingredients into the cauldron. Mixing, bending, and playing with genres in this fashion are what OC Remix is all about...(speaking to Protricity regarding his comment on "Niggaz").
Great stuff guys. OCR quality indeed. :nicework:

I'll be blunt, for those reading this on the ReMix page itself. This. . .does not sound familiar. At all. It's a good piece, but sounds utterly unfamiliar to me.
Apparently, this is a remix of Lorenzo's Soil. But. . .Hell if I can tell. It only sounds vaugely like Lorenzo's Soil. . . I mean, it's an awesome piece of music, and all. But. . .this doesn't sound much like anything I recall from EarthWorm Jim 2. Did the Sega MegaDrive version have some weird-ass special music that I don't know about, perhaps? Seriously, this doesn't qualify as a ReMix, in my opinion. It's either not, or it's way the Hell too well remixed to be even remotely recognized. Kind of like what's his face's "Megaman 4 Let There Be Light" ReMix.

I loved the whole trip-hop "Massive Attack"ish groove it had. Must be the first OC Remix I've heard that includes such extent of lyrics. Actually the other remix with actual lyrics I have is DKC3- Red Hot Pursuit.
Almost 2 months ago I requested a remix for this song (Lorenzen's Soil/ISO 9000) and expected somehting more like the PC version of the SNES/Game Gear tune (The Pc version of this song has some electric guitars in the background that truly add a new twist to the already great theme on the consoles).
Never expected something like this, but it really was a nice surprise, I must say i do miss some parts of the original song but the beat is there.. it's subtle and u can actually follow the original theme behind all the add-ons. Love the elec-guitar in the end (4:15 onwards aprox) it kinda reminds me of Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground (song from Cruel Intentions Soundtrack) with a blues twist that could have a hint of The Sopranos Opening theme... don't know why but i feel it like this :P
I have to agree with someone that mentioned a resemblance to Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood in the rap part. I could see the ghostly figure from the video singing those lyrics, hehe
Great piece of work. Im looking foward for other remixes from this artist.

Mmm very moody... yeah, this is nice, great, cool, excellent, etc etc etc.
I don't see why so many people thought the rap part was out of place, though. I thought it fit pretty well, meself...
And while I'm on the subject, whycome the lyrics at the bottom leave out Zyko's whole section?
But in any case, Yeah, this is good stuff. Uh-huh.

Gave this one the full experience spectrum, using various state-altering substances and my brave self as the guinea pig, results are the same in every test.
I played this one to my flatmate yesterday, who resultantly is now at home leeching the servers dry. Put this up with Terra in Black for stakes in the contenders for Best Mix Ever awards.

When I think of Earthworm Jim, a song like this is the last thing that would ever come to mind. But it's pretty damn sweet, just like EJ. Saying I'm not fond of rap is putting it lightly, and I didn't care for the rap in this song too much, either, but it wasn't half bad. Actually, minus the rapping part, there wasn't anything about this song that I didn't like; it was even a really good length. I really loved the lyrics Dan had; he does have a pretty good voice. Nice work with the guitars and lyrics. Those were easily the best parts in this song. Good job you three; get together again and remix some more awesomeness for us.
Everytime I hear this song I think "Pink Floyd."
It really does sound like them, doesn't it?
Well at least until the rap kicks in. That's defenitely the weakest part, and almost takes away from the quality and coolness of the piece (though I liked Niggaz for Life, which I believe was done by the same rapper). Still, it ends up getting a 4/5 for being oh so listenable. Good work, guys.

This reminds me a lot of something DJ Shadow or RJD2 would've done, the singing is dead on and the rapping worked a lot better than I thought it would, the organ breakdown is wicked as well.

Your production "Invertebrate Retreat" really made me think about Bren McGuire, better known as Turrican. Given as many times as he's had to save the world from The Machine, the song really sticks to him. Would you be able to write a ballad for him?

Awesome that this remix got featured on the new Game Music Central debut CD.
http://www.gamemusiccentral.com/music/
Interesting, however, that the mix is credited to Tommy Tallarico himself, when every other remix on the album is credited to someone who *isn't* the original composer, i.e. the actual arranger. It seems odd, especially with the fact that Tallarico himself seems to be spearheading this new site & album.

I am really impressed with the quality of production on this track. So much so that while this is not my favorite type of music, I like this song quite a bit nonetheless. It's laidback and groovy and very airy in a gritty say. It's hard to describe what I think about the vocalist, so I'll say his voice has character and presence, and its uniqueness matches the uniqueness of the song.

WHY HAVE I GONE SO LONG WITHOUT KNOWING ABOUT THIS AMAZING SONG.
It's amazing.
The vocals are just dead on, and the rapping is so awesomely chill. There's really not a whole lot I can say about this mix. If you haven't heard it already, you are seriously missing OUT.

I know I've already made a comment on this song. But when I compare this to mainstream music - EVEN without knowing the original source tune to have any form of nastalgia - this song is far better than what we hear nowadays. If this got introduced to a radio station (that has taste), it'd be on the #1 hit list for a long time. THIS is one of the songs that I will request to have played for my funeral hopefully 55 years from now lol. Good job OCR, Daniel and whoever else collabbed to make this song :D

Hey does anyone have the lyrics to the rapping section? Out of curiosity?

Hey does anyone have the lyrics to the rapping section? Out of curiosity?
I came here exactly for that reason. I liked the rap section, because it brings out a distinct duality: hopelessness and aggression (both especially in regards to Fate). But hey, I read way too much into things.
Let me try my best at transcribing the entire lyrics, everyone feel free to correct me, because I can't be completely right (especially in the rap):
One more time I find myself,
Up to my neck buried in silt.
Too many times the world requests,
That I relieve them all from distress!
Doesn't anybody see- in my corporeal state-
I've got no reason to save anybody but me?
Once again, here I am. I don't give a damn.
My strengths all I am.
And now that Hell is at it's worst,
I've got no choice left, but leaving your dead corpse.
No kind of weapon- no kind of plea-
Not even substance abuse can bother me! (Oh no)
Suppose that I did it- imagine my feet.
Victory reached- still evil replete!
I would be anything but discrete.. (anything but discrete..)
My Invertebrate Retreat.. (My Invertebrate Retreat..)
<rap>
My Invertebrate Retreat repeats until it's murderous.
My (raptistic?) (??) journey into (burliness?)
(??). But I can't bear to say a word of this,
So my surliness will be hurtin' a lack of finesse.
I confess- I've been susceptible to duress.
I contest- I have long bested the f'n rest.
But I'm still chest deep in a test,
And in that sense, I've willed myself in cardiac arrest.
The fame that has been given (to) me- I abhor.
The fame was long lost, now (calls my very core?) OR (calls me bearing ??)
So consider me a (formal) form of Apocalypse,
And in defense I'll bury every single Metropolis.
With anonymous heroics, the world's no longer (operate).
B**** there ain't no stopping this- like I'm a former optimist.
(At prime?) it's time I lit the bomb and started droppin' it.
Crash course in sex, (all of this?) on your false promises.
</rap>
And now I'm gone and forgotten.
Everything inside me pushes to realize:
I never was anything but a slave,
To circumstance and bad fortune. It's time to decide.
Return to forbearance- a cycle complete-
Your Invertebrate Retreat.
Weed would be the final authority, of course, but:
"...my raptastic, elastic journey into wordiness/is fervorous..."
"...The fate was long-lost now grows in my very core..."
"...forlorn form of apocalypse..."
"...world's no longer operant/bitch there ain't no stoppin' this like I'm a form of optimus/prime, it's time I lit the bomb and started droppin' this crash course in taxonomics on your false promises."

Vig's additions seem much better, though I still don't hear "elastic" in the beginning of the rap.

You guys should become the next Three Stooges. More eye poking plz.
You guys get a 9/10 for one of the best mixes I've heard on the site. Dan's voice is great, the rapping I actually enjoyed for the most part(And I NEVER listen to rap), and the excellent guitar work. A few parts sounded very slightly off, but you guys should definitely collab again to transcend even this piece.

I found this song through a post by someone else on the forum. I don't know where I saw it, but the person said that they listened to this song once a day, and it refreshed them when they heard it. So with that, I was curious, so I downloaded this song.
This song is just a masterpiece, the lyrics by Daniel are powerful, and somewhat soothing. I also liked the rapping bit, it gave the song a little bit of a break to focus on something else, then brought back Daniel at the end to finish it up. I'm no good at reviews, but I had to say something, I loved this song immensely, and who ever it was that posted that message, thanks!

Good God, I'm blown away. Absolutely drop-dead amazing collaboration.
I've unknowingly listened to Dan's vocal work before, but I never associated his name to tracks like "Knuckleduster" before. However, when I first listened to this tune I immediately recognized his excellent vocals.
Zyko's rapping started off a little awkward in the first few lines, but I think it worked out as the delivery speed picked up just a little bit. Parts of it reminded me of Sage Francis' style, which works well with Zyko's voice IMO. Even if you're not a fan of zyko's rapping, you've gotta give him credit for being such an experimental artist that's willing to go to a lot of different places with his skill.
Great lyrics all around, as well. That's one problem I've had with a handful of fan-made vocal mixes - the lyrics are quite often extremely lame. Didn't have that problem here.
Vig guitar is great. That's pretty much to be expected. I'd love to have a twin-guitar breakdown at the end with zkyo also chipping in with his signature shredding style, but oh well.
One of the best vocal mixes on the site, I can't believe I missed out on this one until now.

This is what my professor from class had to say about this sound track:
"I like this sound track personally not because it's easy to listen, but it coexists the rock & hip-hop universal bond come together into one amazing sound track and lyrics all together."
I'd have to say, I'm not into lyrics in OC selections but this is eye candy to any listner on here. Not only I have used this for music class (Humaties college class), but also my professor enjoyed hearing this and my one page essay about this.
A + must listen. Proud to have found this and given my feed back and used in class for homework:puppyeyes:

It's easy to be distracted by the varied styles of vocals present in this mix, but I think it's strength lies in the attention to what's beneath them. I do see this as a integration of hip-hop into a rock, with equal attention to each side of the spectrum, but I have to say that the rock element comes through clearer and much more enjoyable than the rest. Guitar work is right on the money, and carries with it as much musicality as it needs to, plus more. It truly does this mix a lot of favours.
Daniel's voice never underperforms in my opinion, and for what it is, it does a pretty decent job expressing the lyrics with aplomb. I get a warmer, less angsty Trent Reznor vibe from both the vocals and the music in this one, intentional or not. I certainly don't consider it a bad thing to be compared to. zyko's rapping was arguably pointless, but added some body to the piece nonetheless. While it's not my thing and didn't exactly mesh with the rest of the product, it's competent enough and I'm sure it would have met more success in its own mix. As it is, it's not a deal-breaker, but it's not the direction I would have gone in. Then again, what the hell do I know?
Not a perfect collab, but a pretty interesting one. Vocal mixes generally tend to be more historic and make a bigger impact than instrumental ones, and I have no problem in this recieving the attention it has mustered in and outside the OCR community. There's enough talent in it to deserve it.

Hard to believe such a soulful song come from Earthworm Jim 2 of all places. To honest I thought I wouldn't like this at first, but I was pleasantly surprised by both Danny's voice and Zyko's rap.
Danny's voice was superb. Some of zyko's line a little sloppy at first, but still excellent none the less. Vig's solo at the end really tied this all together.
All in all, a top notch collab from three great ReMixers.

F'N AWESOME!
This has to be one of the sickest songs on the site. All of the artists made some kick ass contributions to this one. The simplicity and the execution of the song really make this one an OCR classic for me IMO.
Can you guys post the complete lyrics to this? I'll give you a cookie! :3

they're available on the remix details page under the lyrics tab but here you go, anyway :
danny B:
One more time, I find myself
Up to my neck, buried in silt.
Too many times, the world requests
that I relieve them all from distress.
Doesn't anybody see my corporeal state?
I've got no reason, to save anybody but me
Once again. Here I am.
I don't give a damn. My strength's all I am.
And now that hell is at its worst,
I've got no choice left but leaving your dead corpse.
No kind of weapon, no kind of plea,
not even substance abuse can bother me.
Suppose that I did it, imagine my feat.
Victory reached, but still evil replete.
And I would be anything but discrete -
My invertebrate retreat.
zyko:
My invertebrate retreat repeats until it's murderous.
My raptastic, elastic journey into wordiness
is ferverous, but I can't bear to say a word of this
or my surliness will be hurtin' a lack of finesse.
I confess, I've been susceptible to duress.
I contest, I have long bested the fuckin' rest,
but I'm still chest-deep in a test,
and in that sense, I've willed myself into cardiac arrest.
The fate that's been given me - I abhor.
The faith that's long lost now grows in your very core.
So consider me a forlorn form of apocalypse,
and in defense I'll bury every single metropolis.
With anonymous heroics, the world's no longer operant.
Bitch, there ain't no stoppin' this like I'm a form of Optimus Prime,
it's time I lit the bomb and started droppin' this.
Crash course in taxonomics on your false promises.
danny B:
And now I'm gone and forgotten,
Everything inside me pushes me to realize.
I never was anything but a slave to circumstance and bad fortune,
It's time to decide.
Return to forbearance?
A cycle complete.
Your invertebrate retreat.

now about that cookie... :)
Really classy stuff, I am surprised I hadn't heard this one before. Great production, performances, and lyrics. Everything just clicks together like some legos, and it really shines. A very good collab, nice work, gents. :-)

This was such a classic. Everything falls in place in this.
Diggin' the vocals and overall weirdness.

Absolutely amazing. An instant favourite.
However, the echoing effect can get a tad annoying when listening to it on Earbuds.

Wow! That's the only thing that comes to my mind after hearing this. Those vocals sold this ReMix and I can just imagine hearing this anywhere. Nice mix of rock and rap. I'm definitely impressed by this one and I enjoy the ReMix of the song itself. One of the best vocal mixes I've heard on the site so far. As the cows would say, "Well done".
