Better remix than anything thing I thought could come out of Metroid Prime. He took the best tracks of the whole game, remixed them in an original way, and made a great song. I enjoy these gamecube remixes DarkeSword, keep them coming.

When this one popped up on vg mix I thought, well, it's DarkeSword, it's can't be bad. And it turned out to be one of my favorite of his pieces. You know, I really didn't care for Shariq's stuff at first, but he's improved a lot over the past year or so and now anything he makes is an automatic d/l for me. The main thing I admire about this song is that it's very disciplined, that's the only way I can think to describe it. Very very good work.

the sound fx cut off rather abruptly at :22... wish they'd tarried a little longer. i like the choir. i love the feel of the piano verses the countermelodies. interesting and enjoyable contrast. i love 2:25 - the synth thingy with the piano counter.
well, i sound like someone in the WIP forum ;)
All in all, great stuff Darkesword.

Haha, this is hella sweet man. I love the bassline. If I made this song I would've changed one of the chords in the melody. But this rocks. I like how you also got the chozo ruins theme in there too.
Hell, this is awesome. I like the whole atmosphere because it feels like the game, just with a less threatenting feel and more of a kick some butt feel.

just finished playing Prime recently and I would have to say I'm impressed with the arrangement of this remix. I think its the best track in the game but the way you timed your elements were relaxing in a way from the actual track. Overall I think this is a great mix from start to finish.

Cool thing Darkesword went for ice ,and not fire !
A remix of Magmoor would perhaps upset the already ruined Chozo ghosts. Phendrana Drifts is IMO a wise decision for the first MP remix 8)
Nice solid bassline, good instruments and has a decent techno feel to it. It delivers sound to the ears that is set for Prime listeners :D

alright... I was shocked to see the remix there at the top of the list as I accessed the site... (First Review for a reason...) When I saw metroid prime, I had to stop my self from drooling. But everything can't be perfect I guess. *waits for the f'yous from people as well as the boos to subside.
I'm not putting down the remix, oh no. Its kick-ass in my opinion, but one thing did bug me. The main beat that plays half way through the song and again at the end... It sounded, odd, and in the end, threw me out of the mood. Everything else was good. But those two parts sounded as if i was rushed back to the earlier years as UFO's came down to earth on an old sci-fi movie.
So again, everything was perfect, but I'm just gonna have to speak my mind about this one little thing. maybe the rest of you don't care or it didn't bother you, but I'm saying it could have been better. In the game, the main theme was awsome... because it matched. With this remix, the main part was totally differen't from the rest of the song, as if it didn't belong.
Sorry if what I'm saying doesn't make sense, but I'm not best with music terms and what not. Again this is my first review... And hell I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think this was a good song.

He's saying he didn't like the Piccolo Pipe analog synth playing the Chozo Ruins theme because it had portamento on it. Never mind the fact that Chozo Ruins uses the exact instrumentation (sans portamento) in the game. ^_^

I don't think anyone will be choosing Magmoor Caverns, because it is a remix of Lower Norfair from Super Metroid (http://www.ocremix.org/detailgame.php?gameid=74).

Normally I only download remixes from games I've played myself, so at first I avoided this one. Then it occured to me that I'd watched my roommate play the majority of Metroid Prime last year and that I'd probably remember the music.
This captures the mood of the game well. If one mark of a successful remix is that it makes you want to go play the game, I'd say this meets it.

Definatly took the best track in the game and remixed it very well. Suits the time of year too, a very wintery song that I could listen to for hours, esspecially when driving around in the snow, fits very well along-side some of my other favorite remixes, including Crystalline Caverns from McVaffe (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00860) awesome job man, keep it up.

When I found out that there was a Metroid Prime mix, I literally wet myself
But... This isn't as good as I thought it would be
Seemed repetive, just nothing that made me go "Wow" (Although has a cool bassline I must say)
But GCN music can't really get much better than it already is
DarkeSword you still did a great job
Btw Does anyone know where to get the original MP song files?

Excellent mix, very well done. Even though the Metroid Prime music is very ambient and atmospheric, it leaves a lot of potential for remixing... and by combining different world themes and adding more structure, that's just what you [Darkesword] did. Still keeps very ambient elements in a faithful tribute to the original game music.
I like how you took the liberty of changing the chord structure underneath the main melody line (the singing voices). Brilliant. :)
Whatever instrument you use starting at 1:55 reminds me of old, 8-bit Megaman games... a little pleasant nostalgia going on there. The bassline is cute and catchy without sounding out-of-place.
The 2:25 transition into the Chozo Ruins theme is what I'm most impressed with, however. When I'd absentmindedly hum Metroid Prime to myself (yes, I do this sometimes, guilty as charged), I find myself mixing the Phendrana and Chozo music unintentionally. It's a very natural and logical transition... nice to hear it so seamlessly incorperated into what really is a first-rate remix. Hope to hear more Prime stuff (or anything, for that matter) you in the future!

I forgot to say this, but I really love this mix. DarkeSword just doesn't know when to stop making excellent music. 8)
I have not played Metroid Prime, so I don't know the atmosphere or feel of the game; I base my comment on my experience from playing Super Metroid. In my opinion, the remix is too "happy" for Metroid (a lone exploration of hostile environment).
The remix is very relaxing and "soft". Great for easy listening :)

Actually, this is the SECOND metroid prime remix.
The first being 'Super Metroid' Norfair Deathmarch, which uses one of the music themes from Magmoor Caverns.

No it's not. Magmoor Caverns doesn't have its own theme. Magmoor Caverns' music is just updated Norfair music.
If I were to remix the Super Mario Bros. theme, that doesn't make it a Smash Bros. remix because it was used in that game. That makes it a Super Mario Bros. remix.
Get your facts straight.

The thing is, that remix was posted in July of 2001, and Metroid Prime was released over a year later in 2002. You are wrong.
Why don't you post about this in that remix's thread, instead of this one? I also think it's great how you didn't even comment on my remix.

Normally I don't write reviews for remixes (In fact, this is my first one), because my understanding of how the remixes are made is, well, non-existant. However, after seeing this and listening to it, I couldn't help but read what others wrote about it, and decided to write up my own.
There are two main aspects of this remix that, to me, make it really stand out. The first is the seamless fusion between the Phendrana Drifts theme and the Chozo Ruins theme. Although I've never noticed how well the two songs can fuse into each other, this remix has pointed it out to me. As well, it takes a theme that is already somewhat light to begin with (Phendrana Drifts), and gives it a deeper underlining than the original track did. All of the aspects can be heard with relative ease.
The second thing that stands out is the build up to the main music that never really existed to me in the original Phendrana Drifts theme. The opening that starts at about 0:25 helped me get more into the music, to the point where I was actually bobbing my head a little, which is quite rare for me.
One thing, however, bothered me. The first 23 seconds of the remix sound as though they would be better fitted on the end rather than the faded ending used, because the start of it plays and then quickly grows to be silent at 0:23.

"Phendrana Drifts" The original track kept that level of ambience within the ice caverns.
Plus it changed whenever you delved deeper. It was so different from the rest of the game, it really kept itself apart from the rest of the soundtrack.
This remix does the same, but even better. It makes the song even more level, in a different way. Its like hearing it from a different perspective, as if from the various critters you come across.
Nicely done job DarkESword. 8)

Finally, a Metroid Prime remix.
i just got the soundtrack off a friend a while ago and even when i was playing through, i KNEW phendrana just needed to be mixed. it seemed so likely.
and then i heard this.
awesome stuff. indeed, the bassline is awesome. the transition between areas isn't truly too noticable, definitely a good sign of flawless transitioning.
Hopefully there will be A Little Bit More remixed off of Prime's tracks.

This was my second song I downloaded from the OCR site, after getting over the initial shock of even finding a music site with this kind of music and content took my breath away. I couldn't even to begin to recover when I started hearing the remixes I downloaded (comparing to stumbling onto a gold mine!) On top of the remixes I snagged, I also went to indiviual artists website and got some originals from them as well.
Anyhoo, Playing Metroid: Prime, I instantly fell in love with the Phendrana background music. That piece has been my #1 favorite in the entire game. DarkeSword, you did a fantastic job of remixing the Phendrana music. It really sounds like this piece orignated from a video game OST. Even after hearing the song, I have it continously plaing over and over in my head for a good 2-3 hours.
Thanx again for the great song! :D

Woot! A Metroid Prime mix, and a spectacular one at that! Great job DrakeSword, it really adds a lot to the original while keeping the same "mood" if you will. Actually, it's the sort of relaxing techno I like to have in the back while writing or something, so I don't think it'll leave my playlist any time soon.
Ah, I loved that area from Prime. The snow was like, totally awsome, and this remix got a smile on my face right from the start with that little piano note section in the begining.
I'm starting to rant now, so I better stop before I take up half the board. Keep it up, I always like your mixes. :D

I never would have thought that the Phendrana Drifts would go so well with Chozo Ruins (which, by the way, is definitely the best music in the game). Keep up the great work!

The composition is excellent, yes, and the Chozo Ruins coming in the middle is pretty awesome, and fine, the bass line really does something for the track ... yet, as a whole, it just sent me digging into my MP3 collection for the OST version. I don't know exactly what it was, but my best guess is
a) it doesn't feel cohesive. The best bits are sampled almost wholesale from the OST tracks. The bits in between don't feel right.
b) little 'bounty hunter badassness' is left. Its just a little too bouncy/happy and not enough 'fully charged plasma beam.' See comments below.
I am a great fan of Phendrana Drifts' music, and I have always compared it to the Dam music from Goldeneye 64 in that the character's onscreen gun wobble when running matches the beat of the song perfectly. The Dam/Phendrana music was so hot I would always go back to that stage many times to wipe out the helpless enemies with maximum firepower, just to hear the music. That gun wobble/bassline connection obliterated, I just don't feel it for this track.
How else am I supposed to look like a moron walking around my house pumping Phendrana music through my MP3 player and doing the gun wobble if its not there anymore?!

The first time I heard this, I wasn't very impressed but after I heard the original again, I realized that DS did an amazing job emphasizing it!
With a catchy bassline and soothing ambience, it can't get any more relaxing, actually -- it would have been great if Shariq could fit the Underwater Frigate Reactor Core theme into this, that would make it all the more beautiful but this is an excellent piece with or without the Frigate theme.
Huge thanks for this one DarkeSword!

I first listened to this thinking the original could never be done justice except with an arrangement that basically made it another song altogether, like something done by djp (:)) so I didn't like it then when it went against that. But when I listened the second and third time, I listened to it based on the fact that it pretty much was very much like the original, while still adding lots of good elements (DarkeSword Elements). Basically a huge reworking of the P.Drifts theme from the game, and it sounds good, because the feeling brought from the original is great (as those who played the game should know what to expect). Download if you like the original a little or a lot. Or just download it if you like good wintery smooth music with appropriate ambient percussion, but definitely not too ambient.

A remix should always recreate a song, yet create new emotions for new experiences. Just a Little More (Prime Edit) does just that, and surpasses all expectations.
Just a Little More is quite simply one of the best remixes on OCReMix. It's beautiful, and pays respect to the original source, but varies enough to credit its own existence. DarkeSword has achieved a perfect balance.
Sometimes I doubt if certain genres can portray certain feelings, but it's tracks like these that I am gladly reminded of how anything can work. I never imagined an Electronic track could turn out so well, in portraying the beauty of isolation and exploration.
This song is more than just a song to listen to: It's a song that should inspire other mixers the quality that their own remixes should achieve. It's the pinnacle of an OCReMix song.
I thank the author, DarkeSword, for such a beautiful mix to listen to. It is examples like these where I point out that videogame music is an art of its own, that should be paid attention to.

This one has been a pretty huge deal for me ever since the day it was posted. I wish I knew how many times I'd listened to it but it's probably a blessing that there's no way of knowing. I wouldn't dare take a guess.
Deep, contemplative treatment to an already perfect example of game music. It never fails to impress me how so much of the original was retained even through introducing some very cool, dynamic changes to the direction. The tonal lift into a more hopeful, lighter sound resulted in a great payoff that is just as encapsulating as the original.
A tremendous beginning to DarkeSword's trilogy of Prime mixes, which each share the same structure as this, but are each amazing standalone pieces in their own right. Just A Little More [Prime Edit] is the one that has lived inside me the most. It's a stunning piece of work; subtly arranged in many ways, but extremely memorable and enjoyable regardless. A perfect mix.
I think it was pretty decent stuff- the melodic hook of the source wasn't super strong, but the treatment Darkesword added to it was pretty nice, and though the track remained pretty constant for the 6 minutes, it was relaxing and nice.

I love this and that Linus Spacehead mix. They're very...galactic. Cosmic, even.
I get that familiar feeling of traversing wild, chilly heights, and it's not just because of the sounds of distant wind currents. First, the bouncy groove from Just a Little More (0:24+) sets up the "let's get exploring" vibe. Then, commanding players like the piano, the choir, and the synth at 1:51 not only take the stage, they take it for a glide and expand its scope. Topping it off, we get a few quiet sections in the beginning and middle that allow for reflection, not unlike taking in the view from a mountain summit. By the way, I like how the churning electric sounds (beginning and elsewhere) remind me of those tunnel-dwelling Scatter Bombus (http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/Scatter_Bombu).
There's never a dull moment in this Prime edit.
