It is a fantastic and beautiful arrangement but I can't help but think the 6 floating heads may haunt me in the future :-o

I liked she would magically appear with a new instrument every so often and you'd be like WOAH! I think the giant drum impressed me the most. :-)

Yeah, it was beautifully done. Can't wait for the rest of the album now. ^_^

I could totally rip the audio from that video... but I won't, because I'd rather have the whole album than just one track from it.

eep sorry Fishy ^w^;;
I had a moment of weakness.... I'll try to complete another track if I have the chance! I don't want to claim it just in case I can't but I'm seriously eyeing Secret Library Daguerreo...

Oh! Are we discussing the album title anywhere? I heard about some private thread, but it's too private for me to locate O.o;;

YAY! FFIX project! \o/ \o/ \o/
I love this soundtrack so much... undoubtfully one of my favorites, probably my favorite FF soundtrack.
The Place I'll Return to Someday, Vamo' Alla Flamenco, Battle 1, You're Not Alone, Jesters of the Moon, Pandemonium... just to name a few awesome tracks... yet the last two of them still unclaimed? Heresy! :dstrbd:

I don't want to seem hand in the face or anything but seriously; you keep bringing it up in the thread to the point where it seems you're trying to wear me down about it. I'm not gonna change my mind.

I appreciate that you just want to contribute, but surely it makes sense to respect the work of the musicians by at least letting them name their own work? Every other project was named either by its directors or its members, because its fair to them.

Anyway this topic is just beating a dead horse now. Please don't bring it up again, I've explained my decision several times.

EDIT: Well the problem was you keep bringing it up - if there's no problem stop complaining :p.

Just so you know, I like music. I believe that this project involves music of some sort. Therefore, I like you. And your project. HUG ME.

I have to ask: are there any orchestral mixes either in the works or planned for this project?

Brandon Strader
05-11-2010, 08:03 PM
Think of it from a "FF9 belongs to everyone" standpoint. Besides, the artists ARE naming their songs. I'm sure not everyone will be happy with the name the album gets, but we can't have 40 different names for it. Also it doesn't hurt to let fans talk about a name they would like, even if it's not what you eventually go with. If nothing else, it keeps the thread alive. :-P

Archangel
05-11-2010, 08:05 PM
I'm doing a soundtrackish rendition of Immoral Melody/Footsteps of Desire. I might claim another track or two later, but I only have time for this one right now (I'm also doing a couple of tracks for the Secret of Mana 2 project, and beside the remixing I have some serious university business to take care of, otherwise I'll be skinned alive and eaten).

Not sure how many orchestral mixes are in the works overall, though.

Brandon Strader
05-11-2010, 08:14 PM
If orchestral remixes is a legitimate request, I might do one. I was considering Fairy Battle as halctronica but it might work as orchestral. I'd have to talk to Phishy about it (especially since it's still listed as unclaimed)

Fishy
05-11-2010, 08:26 PM
As fun as that topic is; let's talk about much more important things like the fact we have 3 WAVs already in the project folder, and several more tracks nearly finished.

Stevo: I've been trying to find some piano/orchestral specialists but with little luck so far. Here's hoping.

If you have any ideas about people to ask - that is something you can certainly suggest and I'll see if I can convince 'em. If there's one thing I do want to hear it's who the listeners would like to hear more of.

Which songs would be good for piano performance?

Wow... I joined OCremix's forums when I learned of this project, and for good reason.

I have listened to the remixes on this site for at least a year now, and they've all been great. The albums are usually pure gold.

I'm just surprised that no one's picked Jesters of the Moon or Sleepless City Treno. Both have catchy melodies, I thought. Just seeing this project makes me wish I had some measure of musical talent...

Really looking forward to this Album. So many good remixers are listed on the tracks!

Alright, here's a topic I have lots of opinions on!

BogusRed is a piano specialist and she had my favorite track on the FF4 project, it'd be awesome to get a song from her.

Patrick Burns was great on SMB, I'd like to hear more of his stuff.

Taucer's already on the project, but the more tracks by him, the better. Same with djp.

If you could somehow get McVaffe, that would be awesome. More realistically, I like Ziwtra's stuff pretty well and he did an FF8 remix not long ago.

I'm not doubting the community one bit. Honestly though, I was expecting something like Treno to be first pickable. Maybe I think too highly of the song, it certainly isn't "Stickerbrush Symphony" level of dibs. Still...

Mostly just been spreading the word to friends about an upcoming release of "the FFIX project". Hope you guys don't mind. Most of them are fairly excited too.

Nah, I halfway expected Treno to be an early catch too - it's got a good, catchy tune. But that doesn't always make it good remixing material, I guess. *shrugs* If only I had any remixing skills, lol....

I, too, have spread the word, and have created excitement with a handful of people.

It's really hard for some people to even imagine remixing some of these songs because they wouldn't want to tarnish the original... or personally change the way they feel about a certain theme, and then regret it later.

What I'll do in the meantime is do a bit of work for it, just in case I do pass the audition. I claimed Jesters of the Moon, but then I ended claiming something else, and then something else further. Right now I have "finished" Mistaken Love and started a WIP for Passing Sorrow. If nobody claims Jesters again by the time I am done with this, then I will probably do that. I'm still waiting on confirmation that SOMEONE is doing Battle 2.And if nobody claims Battle 2 in the long run, I might as well do that too.

I'm not claiming them NOW so that other people can come by and do them, I'm just saying that if they end up not being done that I will definitely throw my tiny hat into the ring. :-o

I do need to finish up Passing Sorrow and move on to the next claim. I haven't forgotten. I'll need to be in contact with you about that to make sure it is passable for the panel and such.. it's a piano performance so I figure it needs to have a lot more pizazz with a lot less instruments to work with. :-)

Hi there,

Have sent Fishy a PM with an audition track to hopefully claim Bran Bal.

Such a rich source, can't believe it's not claimed yet.

*ahem*

*points*

I'm confused, when is the deadline for these tracks? I'd really like to take claim on Bran Bal but I'm in the process of moving house and getting a lot of new gear together so I know I won't be able to start it for another month at least.

Can I claim it still? Or would it be best to leave it open for someone else who can do it sooner?

That was me, on my old account. I never got an answer... >_<

It's cool though, you can have it. You'll probably do a better job than me and there's plenty of other cool stuff to choose from anyways.

I'm real excited to see what everyone is cooking up. This is my absolute most favourite soundtrack. ;P

Pretty good stuff. I think it's great that people are working hard without a WIP date. I'm not the biggest fan of those anyway but I can see how they can help some folks. But it's not really beneficial either way if you wait until a couple days before a deadline and then do stuff. :-P I have to admit, I've been working on other stuff due to the lax schedule on this'n, but it is good to have that freedom especially since I bit off a bit more than I could chew... Oh well. Anyway, thanks to everyone who is workin' hard and taking this album seriously! :-)

March 24th.

First post, I know. And it's long too. Oh god. Please don't bludgeon me with your angry, angry words.

So, first of all, recognize I'm an immense fan, but not an active music contributor here or anywhere else. My musical skills are limited to 6 years general theory with piano I started over 17 years ago. Also realize that we the fanbase have nothing but admiration and respect for the remixers, so don't get offended by any of this because that's not my intent.

I mean c'mon, guys.

Well anyway, about two weeks ago I looked at this project's completed track listing and I was worried. So I convince myself: this is the diamond in the Uematsu crown jewels; something must be done to stop the murder, the rapes, the inhumanity, etc, and so forth. It was at that time I decided to break years of anonymous browsing and create a username with intent to complain to people on the internet. Then outta nowhere this Fishy guy comes along and takes care of it. Glad to see you're taking the initiative to get the important tracks claimed again. Literally, everything you've emboldened on the OP track listing (save for one) is an opportunity for A+ work. They are MUSTS. So, well done - you have quelled my outrage for the time being. I hope people lay claims as soon as possible.

About that one track though.

"Towards That Gate"
I'm actually kind of surprised that Hemophiliac didn't claim it when he took Bittersweet Romance, as it is technically the second part of the song. In fact, Square's official Piano Collections album treats both pieces as just one song, the way Uematsu penned and choreographed it to the scene in which it plays in-game (the finale). Towards That Gate begins around 1:27~8 in this youtube synth version of the piano sheet music (I take no credit for posting it...):
LINK ! ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxo3xH-5kp0&feature=related <-- ! LINK
As just mentioned, the pieces in question play through the game's final scene. The first half is rendered with the in-game character models, thus Bittersweet Romance uses the game's MIDI engine to produce the sounds. The second half is a FMV sequence, and as such, Towards That Gate uses a full orchestra. For this reason alone, the OST splits the track into two parts. It is intended to be one song.

So, if Hemophiliac already picked up on this and has been actively working it into his WIP, shame on me. If there are already enough things occupying his focus and he can't add a second track to his workload, that's also totally understandable. Still, my intent is to see this piece appear on the final tracklisting in one way or another. Perhaps an interested remixer could even collaborate with Hemo (or at the least find out what key he's working in to have some consistency). And style? Dueling electric guitars would rock the climax. Just some thoughts.

;D

It was a great track and you should feel proud, but I stand behind the idea of new tracks for the albums. You download an overclocked album to a game you've played knowing exactly what to expect, yet you are completely surprised every time because while everything feels familiar it's been played in a way you've never heard before. That's the magic of the remix album, and while Rose of May is a great song most of us have been listening to it for almost 2 years now. A fresh take would be welcome.

Also I really wish I could help with this project. I loved the entire FFIX soundtrack, and I even have some awesome ideas for Battle 2 rummaging around the head, but I can't play any instruments proficiently. I've got about 3 weeks of learning the piano (over the course of my whole life) under my belt, and that's definitely not enough for songs of OCR's calibur. I hope someone has a great vision for the remaining tracks and good luck to everyone..

Didn't they have someone in mind for Battle 2? At least, that's what I remember someone saying [Just went back and looked (http://ocremix.org/forums/showpost.php?p=669118&postcount=197)].

I wonder what's up with that person, whoever they are (no one ever mentioned a specific name). Too bad you can't find that unknown person and work with them on the boss theme.

As for me, I came up with a 30-second WIP for Zidane's Theme (as well as a general idea/direction/genre) at the end of November/beginning of December, but I don't have a decent sample library, and the arrangement needs lots of work. I've made next to no progress on it since then.

I'm internally debating contacting a couple people whom I have in mind and see if they're interested in working with me on it. I haven't done so yet partly because I'm afraid that my overall vision will get warped too much if I collaborate with others. But, it might be the only way to have it get done.

Hmm, I've been thinking about it, and maybe I could try my hand at Loss of Me? I've always loved that song (one of my favorites from the OST), and I think I can come up with an interesting arrangement with my instruments. Fishy, if you want, since my equipment is much more in order now, I can try to whip up a short WIP so you can see what kind of ideas I have stewing in my head. Would you be interested in that? This might seem kinda random, since it's my first post here, but I pretty much tripped on the FFIX project and my jaw dropped to the floor. It's my absolute favourite VGM OST, and I've been playing video games since I was 5. Really glad to see this!

Just wanted to drop a quick remark: I'm really looking forward to see the outcome of both Eternal Harvest and Pandemonium. The first I'm already feeling relieved about, seeing as it's AeroZ taking care of it so it's guaranteed to be pretty stellar. About Pandemonium, I'm biting my nails in anticipation of who'll pick it up, seriously. It has mad potential, and if I had the time and practice even I'd try to go for it! Recently got hold of a Roland Gaia SH-01 for my band, and while playing it isn't an issue, messing with DAWs and the like is still out of my league; on top of this, with the exam season at uni only ending in mid-february, it's pretty impossible. What frustration!!

Anyway, here's hoping that Pandemonium is taken up by dedicated and creative hands, that work it into an OC ReMix jewel.

On a side note, it's actually pretty funny - I've known OC ReMix since it first appeared, lurked around a bit, heard some interesting stuff, and eventually it phased out of existence for me. Then, recently, I rediscovered it. And I mean a week ago lol. Since then I found out about many of the albums that the community has been putting out, got many of them, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the mixes, as well as the degree of originality and even sheer reinvention present in a great deal of them. Congratulations are in order.

My hat goes off in particular to LuIzA, whose work was specifically what led me back to this, well, universe really. Aside from having acted as a beacon, it's both inspiring and astounding, corresponding as much as humanly possible to the transformations I expected to hear in the specific tracks she addressed. Realizing that she's contributing to this album was among the things that made my day.

Sorry for the wall of text. Also, I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct place to make this post, but since it is of many natures, and one of them fits this thread, I deemed it alright.

Best Regards,
pb

Ok updates:

Cid's Theme is being taken by a friend of mine from University, yet to choose a name. He's a cool dude, should be pretty sweet.

Knight of the Round is a badass guy who just got his first FF7 mix passed recently. Unbelievably heavy 8 string poly-riffs that we can look forward to for Assault of the Silver Dragons.

Brandon's Mistaken Love mix just passed the panel, so that's cool too.

Got a great wip from Mazedude; and some updates from halc among others

I've also been working hard with cyril of Battle 1 and my own Iifa Tree mix (which I'm fairly sure some people won't believe I made :D) and they're both sounding better every day.

Still need some definite replies from people on Battle 2 and Dark Messenger, but I'm trying to make sure that they get done right, by people who will kick their arse. Likewise Kuja's theme is still sitting there. Some great evil potential there.

I've just now opened this thread for the first time since... well, it started. I didn't think I'd have time to take anything on for it, but now that I've cleared off most of my other project tracks I decided to see what was going down in here.

Like Fishy said earlier, he wants to guarantee that the person will 'blow it out of the water', so it's not like I can just make a claim to it. I'll just send a huge WIP to him in a few days, if I decide to go through with it (I'm leaning toward it, right now).

I guess that leaves:

Black Mage Village
Kuja's Theme

as the only keys left. Surely unto these, ye claims shall come forth.

What a stupid cliche that FFIX thankfully broke with Zidane... unless they were going for a 'Hurricane' knockoff, or something, which would be stupid, and not surprising, knowing Squaresoft.

EDIT: Kuja's Theme is now claimed, as Hy Bound wanted to switch up tracks.

I'm pretty happy that the main tracks are covered now (long as no one drops), so far as I'm concerned; when whats claimed is done, the project is done.

Are you still deciding on a name? If you are, I wanna throw my suggestion of "Melodies of the Mist" (or "Melodies from the Mist") out there.

Eagerly anticipating this album by the way! FF9 is one of my favorite Final Fantasy soundtracks. Very underrated!

Nope. Well not exactly anyway, there are 4 discs now so I'd have to come up with another disc name that fits those or go with a different naming theme. As much as you know I love suggestions, we can figure one out.

In that case, my original idea of the continent names. Mist, Outer, Forgotten, and Lost. It works.

Alternatively, keep Gaia, Terra, and Memoria, but add on Crystal, since the last area is the Crystal World.

Eiko's theme got claimed by someone yesterday, waiting to hear a sample before I make it official.

Prelude... to be honest I'm not too bothered about. There are so many remixes of it already. Plus we have a remix of Crystal World, which is just a minor version of the prelude anyway. It's basically a remix of a remix of the prelude.

Brandon Strader
03-03-2011, 01:23 AM
Yeah, and the Crystal World mix you're talking about I think is really incredible. I don't think it'd be a bad idea to just stick with that one. :-D As for the other unclaimed tracks, it'd be cool to see some nice folks come in and make some nice songs for this. There's a lot of songs that i would ersonally really like to see covered before the album is completed, so if people get a chance out of their schedules, please check out the list and see if you fancy anything.. :-)

Yeah it's a big 'ol OST. Much like the other later FF games, it would be impractical to do everything - the quality would suffer.

On the plus, some encouraging movement being made by the late-starters. I made tons of headway on Battle1 today, it's pretty much done. Iifa is getting there too.

Gario
03-05-2011, 06:22 AM
I'll have some headway on Battle 2 this weekend. I couldn't ignore Bionic Commando's deadline, and I've been quite pressed for time, lately.

Now I've got to get all serious for this project.

Chernabogue
03-05-2011, 07:56 AM
It may be a stupid question, but why are you already imposing a final deadline when there're like 5 or such albums to be released in the next months? I mean, this album doesn't need to be finished so soon (with so many cool but unclaimed tracks - and yea, I know there'll be much work to be done after this deadline, but meh). People could have more time to make more tracks. (Sorry if this post is misplaced.)

Fishy
03-05-2011, 02:43 PM
I realized this around the start of the year.

Having a 'we don't need to finish track now because there are other projects first' mentality is what causes these ridiculous 4 year projects. I may be moving the deadline back, but not a huge amount.

Solaphar
03-05-2011, 05:46 PM
I kind of agree with Chernabogue. I think the deadline may be a bit ill-conceived. An August or September deadline probably would've made more sense, with March as a WIP deadline. Really, why the hurry? I think it'll only do harm, to rush out Uematsu's favorite Final Fantasy soundtrack. Consider this, there are multiple projects that started long before this one, but which have deadlines later than this one.

Nonetheless, if you insist on keeping the current deadline, I'll still look forward to hearing the album once it's released, even if it is only half-finished. If I were you though, I'd take the extra time to do it right... and more completely. Just my opinion. =|

these ridiculous 4 year projects.Ridiculous, perhaps, but at least not incomplete.

Have a little faith. I'm not gonna release something that's not ready. I'm just trying to get rid of this notion that projects have to take a long time. I've been looking at release timescales, and the deadline will move back somewhat anyway, as there are so many already finished projects waiting to come out.

Also, I'm not gonna ignore tracks that should really be on the album, and am actively trying to get these not just filled, but filled by people who can deliver!

People are starting to have to rush and that's lame. Due to this, the open tracks (that people keep requesting), the abundance of nearly done projects, and the fact I'm moving country again at the start of May:

The deadline has been moved back to June 1st for the assurance of the quality of her Majesty's project.

Brandon Strader
03-09-2011, 03:49 PM

I understand, but in that case, why not just threaten to make the tracks open for the people who drag their feet past WIP deadlines, like how it's done on other projects?

Personally, I think there are more ways to encourage people to finish their tracks, other than a final deadline.
Have a little faith. I'm not gonna release something that's not ready. I'm just trying to get rid of this notion that projects have to take a long time. I guess I should explain the motivation behind my previous post.

I was just concerned because the full soundtrack has about, what,100(?) tracks on it that are over a minute long (and thus, reasonably remixable), and you only have like 70%(?) of those listed in the first post. So if only half of those listed in your post actually get done, 35 or so, we'll miss out on nearly two-thirds of the soundtrack. So yeah, I was just concerned about the sheer number of tracks (many of them decent or overlooked), that would be left out of the final product. I'd hope one would at least aim to cover 50 tracks, for a solid half of the OST. And I feel there's no need to exclude the "less popular" tracks, especially if done solely based upon it taking "too long", ya know?

It can take a long time to find enough people who will get the tracks done. Just something to consider.

In any case I'm glad to see that the deadline has been moved at least a little bit, so that's all I'll say about it for now. =D

Gario
