In any case, I've made lots of progress on my remix of Rose of May. It's like 70-80% done and I'm all excited. I was able to get a lot done these past few days since I finished my classes for this semester last week. Yay!

what exactly IS the wav vs flac debate? as I see it they're the same thing, except one is 3x bigger and doesn't have metadata.. unless there is some kind of advantage to having wav's that I'm unaware of. doesn't matter to me, I don't listen to lossless anyway, but I'm curious.

They are indeed smaller, but they don't work with a lot of media players without codecs. They also don't work on the majority of mp3 players (including ipods).

Bottom line is it's a great concept but it's not widely enough used and too confusing for people who don't know what they are to justify imo, especially considering the fact that flac enthusiasts will just make them using the wavs anyway. WAV is the most compatible choice that everyone can get what they want from.

Again, I'm not having a debate about this, just telling you why I've made my decision.

Jah and I concur with the Fish Man about WAVs, they're the tits, and I personally know next to nothing about flacs... I have a hard enough time burning regular CDs. Hah. But I know 16-bit WAV is good for burning CDs.

OCR releases all of its albums in FLAC and MP3 format. If there are pieces that only exist in MP3 format and lossless versions can't be created/obtained, then we leave the lossless version out.

I'm pretty happy with the turn-out for the album... I'd like to see more of "Disc 3" get claimed though. I wish people would step up for that if they could. :-o

Apart from that, I've heard a fair spattering of stuff from the album and I got to say, it's really going to be unique and enjoyable. I like that the quality standards have been kept high to deliver a great ff9 tribute. I think a lot of people are going to enjoy it!

My sincerest apologies for my recent absences, having a tricky couple of months and haven't been online nearly enough. I'll be shortly sending out update requests from everyone and make sure we're moving. At last check I had 22 wavs so we're definitely moving along.

Ah the scoop went missing. I've spoke to the staff dudes the other day to work out when we can realistically expect the current project queue to die down, and it's hopefully early 2012. I'll probably be setting a final deadline somewhere near new year so that we can be ready and evaluated in time for that, which is a good few months for all you busy people to polish up.

When I say final deadline, I'm not going to be thwarted by the project queue undermining my efforts this time :p. We're totally in the queue for reals finally.

Two new joiners today including old school returner Main Finger. Plus sir knight of the round picked up something new.

Final deadline is January 12th. Caught a skype meeting with the staff for once (3am in the morning, amurika bias) and this is definitely the earliest eval slot. I will be pming/emailing this just to make sure. Once I've sorted a few track confusions up there will be an updated list this weekend.

Also I'll be redoing a track now that I have me Uni facilities back again. My previous bedroom recorded with shitty samson mic track with Andy P will be professional studio standard now, woo!

I've found three separate track list names. Even wikipedia lists two different names for every track, and I've not heard of either of them in most cases. If anyone knows the definitive list that would be helpful.

Technically the iTunes tracklisting could be considered the "official" tracklisting. However, the tracklist most people know for the OST, what I assume was a fan translation (I forget), seems to have more literal translations of the Japanese track titles - some of the "official" titles have no relation whatsoever to the original Japanese titles (also the literal translated titles are way cooler in many cases IMO. Jesters of the Moonless Night > Court Jesters etc).

Jumping in here about the trailer (sniping you, fishman). Unless the director has someone specifically selected to do the trailer before submitting the album, the trailer falls to OCR Staff, specifically José the Bronx Rican. With a plate as full as his, we normally wait until very close to release to put the trailer up.

Interest in an album due to the trailer stops peaking about a week after the trailer is released. If an album were not out in that amount of time, we lose some heat for it as time goes on. Also other mixes get posted in the meantime which draw attention away from the trailer. (rightfully so, regular mixposts deserve dat love, but its cannibalising our own attention to something else we're putting out)

At least that's my take on it, hopefully that makes sense!

Well it's not just two people at the moment, but there's also the issue of those tracks being key tracks. I mean really these are the tracks that just need to get done:

When those are done, everything else is being cut no matter what so if you're one of those people imma come get u.

Slightly provocative way of saying it, but I agree. Few are the situations where one is caught in such downward spiral that absolutely no time can be dedicated to finishing tracks. Whatever the case, everyone should be able to at least keep the director updated about the progress, no matter how much stuff you have going on in your life:350:

You mean other than a complete lack of inspiration and ability to finish said track. It's not always about the time it could take, but also about the ability to complete said action that could get in the way of finishing, as well, you know.

Yea, I considered listing every possible reason there is that could hinder the process of making music, but the point was that whatever the case, you should at least be able to inform the director about the problems and ask help if needed. I'm not saying that people have not updated frequently- how would I know that. I just commented on the "busy" factor that archangel talked about.:smile:

I mean, I've ended up collabing with people on the project because they ran out inspiration. If I don't know why someone is struggling (be it time or inspiration) then I can't help :(.

I re-checked my final wavs folder and there's actually 37 finished tracks now, woop.

Not bad at all. So the final count should easily go over 40 tracks, which is impressive for an album. Can't wait to hear this goodness, the FFIX soundtrack is such a masterpiece that it deserves all this work and effort. Keep on squeezing out the last tracks, Fishy!:nicework:

But I'm surprised that there is no one on Treno's Theme, one of the best track of the OST IMO.

I can't say for certain, but you should contact Fishy if you have ideas and are willing to work quickly to get it done. I got on board like two weeks ago, seeing potential in some of the unclaimed tracks and the delays with this project. I presume that no one's against some late additions while some key tracks are still being worked on.

It's a shame nobody decided to tackle Cleyra's Trunk, Salamander's Theme (I'm assuming this is Amarant's theme) and the Chocobo theme.

I'm not really good at producing so I sadly don't think I'd be able to attempt any of those, but maybe somebody notices them now!

Also, I miss Gargan Roo in the tracklist :-(
