I don't see what's so wrong with the S&K PC collection. The FM music is unchanged and the emulator that it uses actually runs well: The only time the music is changed is if you select the MIDI music option instead of FM Synth.

Just get Gens, it has a built in Game Genie. Type in the codes, and you can have Super Sonic in Angel Island. ^_^Or you could get all the emeralds plus super emeralds, beat the game then have super sonic in any zone you want :D
its not that hard, and its far more rewarding.
But still, while emulation is good, it's no good without the actual gaming setup, rather than sitting in front of a computer with a joystick. But that's probably me forcing my opinions on you O.oI agree. I prefer console gaming over pc gaming. Even though I only have a Dreamcast, it's great because I can emulate all of my Nes, Master System, Game Boy, and Genesis/Megadrive favorites. Heck, the last time I played S3+K, it was on my dreamast. It was as good as the original, apart from really shitty sound emulation and the occasional graphics glitch.

I just didn't like the S3 special stages the way I enjoyed the first 2...
But that's not why I want to do it anyway.

Get a gamepad for your PC. Perfect emulation and good--if not better--control. And did I mention savestates?
Or is there something about sitting on the floor in your living room in front of the TV...?
Or is there something about sitting on the floor in your living room in front of the TV...?I think you just nailed it.
I tried using the TV-out feature on my PC once, but it's not exactly convienient to haul my entire computer out into the living room.
Back on topic:
Wow, I never noticed there was so many new tracks added to the preview site. For some reason, the music won't play at work. I think it's because they've somehow filtered any URL with 'MP3' in it.

I remember having that on my comp way back when at the beginning of the project.
Sadly, I think I deleted it for space reasons...
But yeah, it is very nice. He should finish it sometime.
The Sandopolis Zone mix is fantastic. That is all.

You remember like half a year ago when djp hadn't posted a song for 6 days straight and he made such a big deal about it saying it was a record? Hahahaha.
Anyway, maybe I'll still be alive when OCR1498 comes around. We all probably won't be around anymore by the time this project comes out though. Oh well.
Edit: So it was a bit more than half a year ago. It was in his write-up for Tepid's "A Rose For Zelda".

Hey, I have a question about The Sonic 3 and Knuckles theme.
I've been following the project since October of last year (around the same time that I discovered Chrono Symphonic), and I never remembered seeing the Sonic 3 and Knuckles theme in the song list. Did you guys already have a remix of that theme ready before you added it to the song list, or did you just realize you haven't remixed it yet and are working/have worked on it since you added it to the song list?

What browser are you using? For me, it doesn't work properly in opera, so I just use internet explorer.

07-29-2006, 08:47 PM
Firefox, which is odd because it had been working just fine all the time previously (from 3 tracks to 11). Only when I noticed that the number of tracks had been increased to 12, did it stop working in FF.
Another possible variable, I think FF upgraded to 1.5.0.5 at around the time the site stoppped working for me.
Confirmed that it is working correctly in IE.
I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.5, and it's working fine for me.
BLueBeRRyKiWi

I just tried on IE and firefox 1.5.0.5 (windows & linux) and no problem.
Try hitting ctrl+F5 on http://www.projectchaos.info/flash/home.php it will reload everything from the website instead of using your cache (this should work for anybody having troubles playing the new tracks, as their browser is using the old tracklist and doesn't get the newer ones).
Shift+delete should also allow you to clear the cache.
By the way, I've just uploaded a 13rd track to it, so you can check if you get it right now. If not, wipe your cache clean.

But will the remixers & song titles be on the back cover, or only the names of the zones?
And I vote for the back having eyes.
Two new ideas for the back have been uploaded, feedback please. ( http://www.espiox.net/current.html )
As for the track listing..., I'm not sure. There's an awful lot of information to list there and I'm having a hard time making it look good.

As for the track listing..., I'm not sure. There's an awful lot of information to list there and I'm having a hard time making it look good.
Please try to include them: it's important that the people who arranged the songs are properly credited on the artwork. Try shrinking the logo on the right, which would give you more room to work with as far as tracklisting.
I'm going to try that. I realize how much work went into these tracks and I intend to properly credit the mixers. Even if I don't get it onto the back, I'll be including all that kind of info on the insert.

also, since the tracks will be on 2 CDs, you don't need to write all of them on the same cover.

2-cd case?
I may end up creating a two-case option, but I'm making this one with a double case in mind.

I was just trying to find a way to remove some stuff from the cover
for me, I never print the album art, especially this black thing would eat all of my printer cartridge
Nice artwork, hobo. I really like the simple design.
I have a few suggestions though:
- I hope you're working in a higher resolution than the 450x450 previews you are showing.
- Unless you are designing your back label for a non-standard jewel case, keep in mind that the back is not square. I personally use 1284x1000 for most of my cd labels. That size includes the two tabs on the back label. With this larger size, you have more room for your tracklisting.
- You may also find these templates useful:
http://duplication.discmakers.com/action/DownloadsView
What I've put together so far has just been small previews to see what people think first. When I get back and have time to spend on this, I'll put it all together in a higher resolution.
Hadyn

I just need to make sure you know about DPI settings.
Screen stuff displays at 72 dpi - dots per inch - whereas print stuff displays at a much higher, sharper 300dpi. When you set the canvas size in a program like photoshop, you have the option of setting it to 300dpi to start with. Do this. If you simply increase the size later, ps will go all shitty and do a bad, pixelated interpolation, because it has to create information about pixels that didn't exist before.
That's it in a nutshell... So yeah. 300dpi = the way to go.
Other than that, nice work. We'll link this from the project site when it's done :)

the album art is really good, i love how the s&k logo lights up like that...
my favorite of the back album cover is the logo with no eyes, if my input has any effect on your final decision...
also, i think in the bottom right hand corner u could put one of those compact disc logos, and make it look all official... or you could put the track names in the center, and have the faded logo in back of it
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/5334/samplebw3.jpg
^^that's a half-assed 2 minute job of what i saw in my head. so maybe that for the back, idk whatever
and i'd also like to see what it looks like with project lit up red, and chaos lit up blue, for the contrast against the character above it, if u know what i mean...
but whatever, just adding my two cents, i think your doing a good job on it so far

And Hello, by the way, I'm am indeed new here (long-time lurker, but never posted untill now etc etc..) but I've been anticipating this project for a long time and one day I just had a sudden urge to load up Illustrator and make blue-sphere-special-stage-themed album art for it (I did it a while ago actually, but never got around to posting it untill now). So here it is. I think it turned out pretty decent.. but really it's my first true attempt at album art so it could just be the newbie in me calling out and telling me it looks good when it really doesn't. :)
If anyone really is interested in this Album art, though, please let me know and I'll take it to the next step and clean it up, finalize it, and set it up in the proper dimensions/resolution (I realize it's way off the way it is right now). It's all been created from scratch through Illustrator so doing that should be a breeze. I'd also, of course, be willing to impliment any suggestions or criticism anyone might have. Of course, if no one likes it at all then I could also just quietly back away and return to my reclusive watch over the happenings of this forum and probably never be seen or heard from again

The sphere discs are a GREAT idea. I may actually use that for the official project art. On the other hand, I don't like the font, and I think you've used too many effects on the front cover. Keep it clean, get rid of all the bevels and drop shadows, and get rid of the weird directional blur on the tile background, it makes it look too messy.
Keep it clean, and I'll have no problem at all linking this cover from the project site - and as I said, I may actually use that speher idea for the real projhect. Great idea, really. Nicely done.

I've already tried to put the S&K logo as favicon, but it looks really bad @ 16x16. Currently, we have the Extra life monitor:

I don't like the fontThat's actually the "Andes" font, that is the font used in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
That's cool and all, but I still don't like it.
This project isn't all about using old stuff. It's about taking old stuff, and making it cool, and an outline and drop shadow do not make that font cool.
On the other hands, there are other ways you could probably use the font in a cool way, but as it stands I just don't like it's use on that cover.

I always thought the "Andes" font didn't fit well with the game at all. Very 1920s-looking in a game all about speed and '90s-ish things like snowboarding, Michael Jackson (?), and vocal samples.

Well I'm very glad to see that you guys like my ideas. While I would of course prefer to keep it exclusive to my design, you may absolutly use the blue/red sphere idea on the official CD labels, thats ok with me.
I've followed some of the suggesting and removed the directional blur effect from the background, as well as the shadows behind the titles. I seem to be hearing conflicting opinions on that Andes font though - I did initially choose it because it was used in the game itself, but I think it also just seems to fit in well with the rest of the design. I'll consider looking into alternative fonts, but most likely I think I'm just going to stick with it.

About the Andes font: I think it's OK for a secondary title, but for the main title of the project it seems to lack some importance. Just as in the game this font is used for the zone title screen but not for the main title or the cover itself.
I was just thinking, it would be cool to have 'Project Chaos' in some other font, but have somewhere written 'A Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles Arrangement Album' or something like this using the Andes font but smaller in size. Well, I'm lazy so you'll have to figure what I'm trying to say or just ignore my comments :P

Yes.
Yes it does. I actually noticed that yesterday, forgot to comment then, but seriously, nice work :P
I'm still not sure I like the drop shadows/inner shadows/glows on the main logo though. I just think it needs to be flat colors - maybe with a slight gradient over the whole thing, but the shadows sort of collide too much with the colors as is. Especially on the knuckles emblem - the red doesn't mix with the greys very well at all.
On the other hand, I could just do all this in my own version of the cover, which I'll do... soon... maybe.
But yeah, you're free to do it how you like, really. Ignore me if you disagree with anything :)

I've been playing around with the S&K emblem quite a bit actually. I think I'd be reasonably happy with the way it already looks but I'm still looking for something else that might look better, and while BLueBeRRy's did an excellent job with his logo, I think it would really clash with the colorful background that I already have on my cover. I might post some of my variations later and see which ones people like the best.
Also, I'll be sure to try that font, thanks!

But this time I've made a lot of changes. Either I've improved it substantially, or completely butchered it ..although if no one likes it I can always go back to the way it was before.
The new rounded-rectangle style I put over the title/track list is based on the blue-sphere counter from the special stages. The font I used isn't quite accurate to the game but seems to similar enough:

Hey spire, i think that new version was way cooler than the old one, you went for cleaner look. I think you should remove that lensflare effect on the back though, because its a pretty cheap effect, and i dont think it fits in behind the tracklisting. But other than that, a huge improvement from the last version.. :)

Officially, Rexy's track is called "Shumacher's Bar". The first post is just a little misspelled with that. Otherwise, I'm quite impressed! Much improved over the old version. As long as everyone's critiquing spellings and such, I believe it's supposed to be "Schumacher's Bar", spelled like the F1 drivers, Michael and Ralf Schumacher's last name.
And BTW, that is a great reference for that song's title, Rexy. [/F1_fan]
As for the cover-art, I really like the back-side's design. But for the front side, it just looks like it has no depth to it, like it's flat. I don't really know, but I think the main thing that gets to me is how the background is just solely the checkerboard pattern, for the front cover.
On the back, the checkerboard pattern works well, because there's that "outer-space" style blue on the one edge, helping create the image of the sphere. On the front, there isn't anything to reference to, so it just doesn't come across as a sphere the way the back does. But overall (even though it sounds like I don't), I really like those covers, Spire!
I wish I had time myself to attempt my own take on covers for this project, but that's unlikely to happen.
JackR

I know my opinion on the covers isn't that important, since I wasn't involved in the project, but I do have to say...
I'm loving the back cover. Absolutely loving it. The only thing that I don't like is the Chaos Emerald; there's something about those uneven edges (bottom left, especially) that my eye doesn't agree with. Aside from that, I've just noticed the gray line (which I go into detail on below) on the Disk 2 track box; left and bottom sides. I love all the little details though, especially the side tabs with one being red and the other blue. Brilliant.
The front I'm not quite as impressed with. Sonic looks good, but Knuckles just seems off to me. You've got that gray shadow all around him; pick one light source and go with it. On Sonic, you've got the shadow just underneath, the light obviously coming from the top left. I think it would vastly improve Knuckles to do the same. Right now, he looks like a sort of raised, rounded bevel of some type; one that magically casts a shadow on all sides.
Next is the color transition. First, the blue to black; it's really good until you get to the bottom, near Knuckles. It goes from a seamless trasition between the colors to blue, gray line, black. I know you're trying to go with a 3D effect, but this was not a 3D game; I think it would look better if it was all like the top half of Sonic; blue to black, straight transition. The slight darkening of the blue works nicely to still provide the 3D effect anyway. Sadly, this shadow on the top left is in direct contrast to the work on Sonic that I liked, with the LIGHT in the top left.
I think that's the biggest change that needs to be made; pick one light source and go with it. Right now, Sonic is getting light from the top left, Knuckles casts a shadow all around, the whole logo gets light from the bottom right, and the sphere gets light from the bottom left. If all these light sources (or at the very least, the ones on the logo; it might look cool to leave the sphere's where it is and light the logo separate) were unified, I think it would improve a lot. Personally, I suggest lighting from the top left, because you've already done so with Sonic, and I think it turned out very well.
The last few things I wanted to point out were that the whole logo is a victim of that gray line outline again, except for on the bottom right (where the light's coming from). I think if you just go pure black it would look cleaner. And finally, some of the shapes on Knuckles; the tip of the right dread has a vertical line, compared to a more natural point like the other two, and the top of his head forms a rather odd angle; perhaps round that off?
I know, I'm being rather overcritical, especially for someone who didn't work on the project, but I'm just throwing my ideas/suggestions out there.
Despite all my nitpicking, I really like the covers; a great idea, and something I could never hope to do myself.

same here, i don't know if my opinion matters since i have no part of the project.... but i'd like to offer my 2 cents
front - i'm not quite sure why, but the newly added boxes around the lettering is bothering me... it just seems to distract too much and draw attention away from the logo, if we could see a version without the boxes, or perhaps with lighter boxes, i think it may look better
back - again the boxes

I agree. I don't like the box on the front. I like, instead, the box for "Disk 1" and "Disk 2" on the back. Those are good and should stay, imo. Maybe you can do one with the blue sphere and one with the ring? Still, I'm liking them.
Also, I don't like the gray background in the tracklisting. I liked it more when the text was directly on the orange thing.

08-04-2006, 08:22 PM
Actually, the copy+paste error I was referring to earlier was caused by me copying the same textbox over and over - the font was leaving too much space between lines so I had to put them each in seperate boxes. I still typed out everything, which is why there were so many spelling mistakes :? .
JackR: Have you seen the new version of the front cover? I believe I've already addressed the "grey lighting" issues with the logo, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding you.
Jontilton: I couldn't use the "&" on that cover because of font size issues, it just won't fit in there. But don't worry - I'm going to be re-arraging the text boxes later, though, and hopefully I should be able to solve that problem in the process.

Nineko: Aesthetically, I agree with you on removing the desaturation box on the track list; however, having the text directly on the background makes it a bit too illegible I think. The contrasting colors just seemed to confuse it a bit too much. Maybe I'm wrong though? Well, I've tried that before, but unfortunatly the bright orange tiles confilct just as badly with the brighter text as the darker tiles conflict with the darker text. I could make it fade into a bright white, that would probably do the trick, but then it doesn't really fit in anymore.
However, I think I found a solution anyway. If I just put a very thin, 0.25pt outline along with the gradient it appears to be much more read-able. Still not as legible as I'd like but it seems to be working, what do you think?

Just a little something that went unnoticed: on the back cover, the text "Project Chaos: ..." from the left, light side, must be rotated 180 degrees, or it will show up upside-down after the cover is mounted...
Also, considering where the emerald is in this cover, maybe it should also be rotated, let's say, 45 clockwise... then it would be kind of parallel to the lines below it on the sphere...
And about this font thing, I think maybe you should try using a smaller, but thicker font, with that thin outline...
I'm not a graphic designer or anything near that, so feel free to disconsider whatever you want on what I said...

READ CAREFULLY EVERYONE
This will be a 3 (THREE) disc album. Since I do want to have a CD version, the only way to really make it work would be to split it into 3 discs. And the best way to get THAT done, is to create a second album.
So yes, there will be the primary Project Chaos album, and the secondary Project Chaos Special album. I think the competition themes and the most notable of the WIPs should be included and showcased, not tacked on to the end of the album.
The primary album will be 2 CDs, 10 to 11 tracks each. It will be broken up by Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.
I've really been driving myself nuts trying to figure out how to make a CD release out of this, and this is really the only way.
We'll need to make TWO album covers, tracklists should be EMPTY till I sort out what track will go into what album. I am going with Spire's designs, so all your suggestions should go to him. Third disc should be gold. Everything else is up to everyone who's interested in the art.

I can still see a few gray pixels where there's a change in color though. It's not much, and probably won't even be noticeable when printed at the right size, but I'm a details sort of guy.
Also, shame the Star Sphere won't be used for Disk 3. I thought that was pretty cool too.

Too late! 8O Heh, actually, I think the gold disk might work out just fine if used along with my idea for the 2nd set of album art. Why choose which one of the spheres to use when I could just put one on the cover, and the other on the disk?:
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6025/projectchaosspecialfront2fy7.th.jpg (http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6025/projectchaosspecialfront2fy7.jpg)

What do you think?
I suppose I could put the star sphere on the CD too, but I think this is probably the best way to go so long as I'm already putting it on the cover. Of course, if you don't like the new cover, then I can always put the star sphere back on the disc itself and I'd just have to come up with something else.
Also, do I need to label the fronts with 'main track' and 'bonus track', or will the track lists on the backs suffice?
SnappleMan
08-05-2006, 09:51 AM
Nope, the back is fine. Also, I think the gold works, instead of the bonus stage spheres, the color could represent Sonic, Knuckles and Tails.

Seeing as how Spire came out of hiding with some great covers, I felt maybe I should do the same.
Sometime around when the project was still in the old thread, I started working on a SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) version of the Sonic and Knuckles logo in Inkscape. I was just bored I guess... but seeing as how I think it looks better then the version that Spire is using, I thought I'd see if it would be of any use to anyone who wishes to use it.
I have three version, all exported to large PNGs.
One with a black background.

You did an awesome job on that emblem Protocol, its spot-on to the original and definatly better than the one I was using! Thanks a lot for the offer, but unfortunatly, I already re-did the whole thing because SnappleMan had asked me (via PM) to make it more accurate. :? I started working on it just after I posted that 2nd cover, and finished it up Saturday morning. Had you posted sooner I probably would have just used yours.
It's REALLY too bad, too.. because I could (and probably would) have easily imported your SVG into Adobe Illustrator and taken it from there, saving me a lot of time.
If you ever get board again, though, you should try your hand at your own cover. It can make for a pretty fun project if you have the time for it.

I think you may have mis-understood my post.
I didn't mean to say that I wasn't willing to re-do my emblem (quite the contrary!). What I meant was that I actually just finished re-doing it yesterday [after I posted the images of the 2nd cover, which still had the old version of the emblem on it]. Maybe its just confusing because I haven't actually posted an image of my new version of the emblem yet... I was saving it for the next time I update on my progress, but here you go (http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/8201/newemblemcoverpk1.jpg) anyway.
And here (http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/1019/projectchaosfrontnew2ie3.jpg) is the old version again for comparison.
By the way, it seems no one has actually commented on that second album cover yet. Should I be taking that as a bad sign? :?
Well the new one looks pretty badass man. I really like it.

Glad to finally hear some positive comments on the emblem! I spent a while on that so I'm glad it turned out well.
Heres some inside pieces I put together.. its just an idea I had. I overlayed them over some pictures in photoshop to give you an idea of what it would all look like when put together:
Disk1/Sonic (http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/9939/maininside1qj6.jpg)|Disk2/Knuckles (http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/434/maininside2ws5.jpg)|Disk3/Tails (http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8594/bonusinside1bn3.jpg)|No Disk3/Mecha-Sonic (http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9234/bonusinside2pa6.jpg)
The words on the left edge are also supposed to show through to the front cover if you use it with a clear jewel case. I should look something like this:
Front(Main) (http://img438.imageshack.us/img438/2555/mainfrontrv0.jpg)|Front(Bonus) (http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/3595/bonusfronthr5.jpg)
The images of sonic, knuckles, tails, and mecha-sonic were formed by live-tracing the original sprites in Illustrator, though it was no simple task as I had to (sometimes heavily) modify the sprites in photoshop to get them to trace correctly, as well as some further editing beyond that to smooth it out. I have 3 different traces for each character so if you don't like any of the ones I used I have other ones that you might like more.
So what do you think? If you like the idea, I'll see if I can do something better with them than just dropping down a shadow like that. If not, then I'll just forget about it and move on.

I'd have to agree with Mr. Bottle Rocket though. The tails does seem odd. Perhaps his flying stance would turn out better. You said you already had other stanced made for him though, so at least you saw that ahead of time. haha

For me, it's between either flying Tails or balancing Tails. I really like the yawning Tails, to be honest, but I don't think that really fits with the project; "this music is so dull it makes me sleepy" etc.
Also, I really like the chrome effect you put on Knuckles. Not so sure about the background though. How does it look as solid color, but with the chrome bevel?
Spire
08-09-2006, 08:06 AM
Actually, I've been working on a much more detailed chrome effect. It takes a lot longer to do, and its kinda tedious, but I think you'll like the results.
Sonic (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1647/sonicnewlz7.jpg)|Knuckles (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/7618/knuxnewdd1.jpg)|Tails (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1600/tailsnewfz1.jpg)|Mecha-Sonic (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4678/mechanewxr2.jpg)
And also, heres one final attempt at making a Tails drawing that fits in with the rest of them. If no one likes it, then I'll just go with the flying Tails.. I've gone through 15 different poses for him and I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. I just get the distinct impression from all of your comments that something just isn't right about it (and I can see that myself as well) but I can't really see what else I could do.

Well, I was going to actually try applying the chrome to the S&K Emblem (afterall, the original emblem from the game had similar effect on it) as well, so the inside would match the front.. but I just tried it and it looks terrible on the front cover. I guess I should have realized before hand that the styles would just contrast eachother way too much.
So, yeah, I'm not so sure I wan't to leave it on those inside pieces anymore.. we'll see though.

ATTENTION!
I am now starting to evaluate all the songs for volume. I will use a reasonably leveled song as a referance. Since I will not alter the songs in any way except for a simple volume boost/cut, I will most likely be lowering the volume of a few songs to match that of the rest (instead of compressing other songs to make them match).

While you wait for Snappleman's response to that question, heres something to chew on:
Besides the track list on the special disk cover (since the wip tracks haven't been selected yet, ofc), I think my album art set is pretty much complete. The whole thing totals into 11 seperate files for the entire set! 8O , but I guess thats just what you get for a 3-disk, 2-case album. This will (hopefully) be my final update so any nitpicking is welcome! I'd also just like to make sure I've labeled everything correctly and I'm not missing/forgetting anything.

CD Labels
All 3 Disks (http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4741/projectchaosdisksetqp1.jpg) (final version each disk will be in it's own file).
The small lines in the corners indicate bleed edges, so the edges won't actually extend out that far once you cut it to fit into the case.
Also, Theres a few more things I was wondering about:
1. I was thinking of releasing these in PDF format with embedded fonts since I did these entirely in Illustrator. Like JPG format, pretty much anyone knows how to open them up and print them, they are roughly the same file size as the 300dpi jpgs are, they can be printed out at any dpi (though raster effects are locked at 300dpi), and unlike JPG format they are entirely non-lossy.
The one thing I think I'd have export to JPG, though, would be the disk labels so that they can be used with the various types of CD labeling software people have.
So, would PDFs be acceptable or do you just want everything in 300dpi JPGs?
2. Am I also going to need to create a booklet for the album? If so, what information do I put in there?

Maybe it's just me, but the inside parts with the character silhouettes look like they should have a brushed steel finish. I hadn't commented before because I assumed that's what you were going for.
That is all, excellent work so far; eagerly awaiting this project with ongoing anticipation.
Again, I clearly labelled my track as Schumacher's Bar. Why are people forgetting the bloody apostrophe? :?
Nonetheless, I approve of your designs. I never thought I'd see Metal Sonic get the inclusion in the inner covers though :)

Okay, Spire, you've outdone yourself! I love the album art, it wins on many levels. Just be sure to keep the projects open because there might be a track title change or two, you never know.
Also, about the demo tracks, while I apreciate the vote for Doomsday, I'd prefer if people didn't consider my demo for the album. I already have 5 songs on this thing, someone else should have that spot.
Right now I'm looking at using only about 5 songs from the teaser site. I've already decided on using Kanjika's Lost In The Desert and Xenon's Lava Passion. So please vote for 5 tracks that are not those three that I've already decided the fate of.

I've been listening to the music on the teaser site for awhile now, and the best tracks, imo, are the following-
1. Lava Passion (Final)
2. New Beginnings
3. Water in the Dancefloor
4. Frozen Lavareef (Is it just me or does that sound like Perfect Dark Zero?)
5. A tie between Doomsday and Icecap 4 Life, I can't decide, between the two, which one I think is better.
Here's my top five, excluding SnappleMan's Doomsday and Xenon's Lava Passion. (Both of which would have been in my top five, by the way.)

01: Ross Kmet - Nautic Lava
11: Kanjika - Credits
04: Gamebox - Ice Cap 4 Life
14: Akumajobelmont - Water On The Dancefloor
Spire: I would release both the PDF and JPG versions (maybe even a PNG release as well). I've had trouble in the past with PDF CD labels printing at the right size and alignment, so a JPG release would just be easier for me. That being said, if you choose to release it as a PDF, I'd just simply convert them myself so I could open them up in my labeling software.

PNG is better than JPG. do a PDF + PNG release.
PDF only makes sense to me for the CD covers, but you could make a single PDF containing everything, and then just make PNG copies of each item available as well.

Xenon's Lava Passion.
:D:D:D
Even though the sax sounds like ass.Nonsense, your sax can never sound like ass ;)
Btw, what happened to Metal Sonic? I thought the 1st pose shown/used for the album was pretty cool. Is there a reason why it changed? Had to? Was too detailed compared to the others? Or just because? I'm just curious to know why.
As for my top 5 songs (other than Xenon's and Kanjika's) in no particular order:
Krispy & Joker - Unseenbeta (demo)
Rayza - Azure Lake (WIP)
Sir Nuts - The Unseen Wonders (demo)
Akumajobelmont - Water on the Dancefloor (WIP)
Hadyn - Heads up for Tails
I also have a soft spot for S3K Session and Frozen Lavareef (yeah i'm a sucker for Lava Reef/Hidden Palace )

Okay, here we go. My top 5:
Kanjika - Credits
Krispy & Joker - Beyond the Horizon (Half-Finished Edit)
Kanjika - Hydrochill
Hadyn - Heads Up For Tails
akumajobelmont - Water on the Dancefloor
The Joker

It should be pointed out, that in case me & Krispy's beta gets onto the CD, it should be titled "Beyond the Horizon (Half finished edit)

I just changed that because I thought it looked/fit in better, and I also thought it was kinda difficult to make him out in that other pose. But in light of your comment, maybe I was wrong about all of that?
Also, after hearing Hadyn's mix, I've decided to revise my vote, if thats ok. I just edited my original post to avoid confusion.

I also liked the first Metal Sonic pose better, though this second one is still good. I admit, it was a little hard to figure out it was him in the first pose, but I still got it a second later.
Anyway, top 5 for me:
Hadyn - Heads Up for Tails
DarkeSword - Sand Café (WIP)
Gamebox - Ice Cap 4 Life (WIP)
Sora Kitsune KO - New Beginnings (demo)
Sir Nuts - The Unseen Wonders (demo)
No particular order, I guess.

Heads up for tails - Hadyn

Doomsday - Snappleman
Lava Passion (final) - Xenon Odyssey
The first one's not eligible and the second one is already given an automatic spot, so you might want to choose 2 others. :P

My top 5 (I had a hard time getting it down to five, even with Snapple helping by eliminating doomsday and lava passion):
8 - Rayza - Azure Lake
9 - Sir Nuts - The Unseen Wonders
12 - Sir Nuts - Run for your life, Knuckles
14 - Akumajobelmont - Water On The Dancefloor
16 - Hadyn - Heads up for Tails
I hope that any WIP/demo tracks that don't make it onto the Special Disc will still be made available in mp3. The only track on the teaser site that I don't love is nautic lava, and that's only because although it is very pretty, I'm not in the mood for such calming music :)

I like how Project Chaos's threads are by far the biggest ones in the Site Projects forum. I don't know why the original thread by kfc has been locked to start this new one, but if you "merge" them, they have about 200 pages so far.
This shows how high is the interest for this project.

Oh no Xenon. I know you can play with better tone control than that.
Yes, I know. But that's how Snapple likes it. I could re-record it, but as of right now I'm tired of fooling with the song as I had to change a lot of elements of it I liked to try and have it pass the panel. And then it didn't. SO. I might release a better version in the future. Or possibly a whole new song. But not right now. And I have a better mouthpiece now so it should sound better.
And that, my friend, is why he is the Ailsean of OverLooked ReMix ;)

Uhm... Not sure how much my opinion matters here, but:
16. Heads up for Tails
14. Water on the Dancefloor
11. Credits (Demo)
7. Hydrochill
5. Frozen Lavareef (WIP)
Yeah, I went back from the last to remember which ones I really liked. :P

Part of the reason for the slow trickle of ReMixes is that I plan to implement some sitewide design changes and features when OCR01500 is released, in addition to updated torrents. I've put in dozens of hours of work and will have to put in dozens more before things are ready to fly...
Well, sounds like that might be a while :?

07-30 Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo 'I Don't Fight Boys' by Malcos, Red Tailed Fox
08-15 Tetris 'Thirty-Plus Mix' by R3FORGED
one month between OCR1497 and 1499... this wait is killing me

Maybe i was expecting to see the 1st one, but it took me a few seconds to get what the picture with the 2nd pose was supposed to be. Personnaly i didn't have any trouble seeing what the 1st was, i recognized it right away. Well, for either one, you can easily recognize them if you played the game (or Sonic 2 i guess?). I just thought the 1st one was spiffy and all that 8)

I bought an Otto Link Super Tone Master - New York; however, with a Vandorean 3 reed, I can't even produce a sound out of it :(. My music teacher is letting borrow his Meyer with toothguard on it until I get good enough to use the Otto Link.

Howdy gents!
This is my first post on OCR, but I've been a follower since 2003-ish or so. But I HAD to register to place my vote for Hydrochill (I hope it wasn't already included like that awesome Doomsday mix). I want that song BAD, son!
So, here goes:
1. Hydrochill!!!! For God's Sake!
2. Azure Lake [wip]
3. Heads Up for Tails
4. Water on the Dancefloor
5. New Beginnings (demo)
Love the work OCR and this project's group have been doing, especially! Keep up the good work, guys! :D

4. Ichitootah - S3k Sessions
5. Rayza - Azure Lake (wip)

Well, since OCR 1500 is taking longer than expected, it looks like the project release will have to wait for a bit longer. This gives me time to get back home to NYC and listen to all the songs in peace and quiet, make sure everything is cool.
With the lack of vacation-type activities I'll be able to revise all the release data and all that and syncronize with everyone involved so the release can be as smooth as possible.
I still haven't gotten word from DJP about the 3 songs I'm asking to have posted on OCR, so I'm guessing he'd be too busy to worry about a project release at this time anyway.

Woah, neon-ish, cool stuff. But if there's only 1 design to choose and no multiple possibilities, i'm afraid Spire already won my heart.
The blurred Sonic & Knuckles back side doesn't work so well, it makes parts of the text unreadable. 1st back design is better, and a more sober style seems to suit your design well. Oh, and maybe fix the logo on the front so there's no blue in Knuckles' forehead anymore? Imo it'd look better/more uniform with the rest of the logo.
Yeah, I didn't think the second one worked too well either, I just wanted to see if anyone else liked it. I'll see what I can do with the front logo.
Does anything need to be done to that first back design, or would you say that's ok?
EDIT: It suddenly occured to me that three discs wont fit inside a two-disc case properly, so I'm going to work on another second case design.
Vilecat
08-16-2006, 03:10 PM
Not necessarly, but i'm curious to see how the back would look like if the logo was less blurred. I don't know how much less, and if it'd look cleaner and/or better. Other than that, my half-awake brain can't think of much to add, delete or change at the moment.
I'll get a less-blurred version up shortly.
Also, what info do I need for the booklet? eg. Something about the project, special thanks or something.

Vandorean 3 reedVandorans are weird to play.
You should try Rico Royal.Or a Van 2 1/2 instead of a 3. They're generally a bit thicker/harder (by about 1/2) than Rico, or at least that's what it does for clarinets. Rico Royal is about as good, you're not about to play in an orchestra anyway. If you're familiar with the technique, you could always use a very fine rugged paper to make the Van 3 reed thinner, until you can play with more ease. Or just keep the Van 3 reeds until weaker ones don't make the job anymore.

or just try them all and see what's best. duh. (yes, I play the clarinet too. I have an R13.)
