Since someone brought up Gandalf, I've been waiting for the Hobbit movie since Return of the King came out, and that was about 7 or 8 years ago. Two years isn't very long at all.

Anyways, to raise hype, I'll just say that the final video preview (this final update tackles 23 remixes with a majority being never-before-heard!) will be absolutely worth it. It blows me away, I've watched it about 10 times and it never gets old. You'll all love it :-)

Track-wise, as Emunator said, we no longer have to wait on Enchanted Riverbank SNES or Stilt GBA. Those are done. Right now we're just making some very final touch-ups on Game Over GBA and the album will be 100% finished.


after waiting about a year for progress on the final video preview, Emu and I came to a consensus and decided to redo the preview from scratch ourselves. So shortly after, I got all the material ready, sent it all in a neat little package to Peach and in just days it was 100% finished. Not only does it feature tracks that a lot of you are looking forward to, but I made sure it's a great representation of what to expect from the album. It's something to look forward to.

So yeah, the preview's done, and we'll release it once we get that last WAV in :-D

Yeah, and I feel the track has essentially been upgraded from "beautiful" to "absolutely heavenly beautiful". I'd honestly say this year-and-some-month delay's been worth it for Beneath the Moonlight and Distant Dreams on Stormy Seas alone, and hopefully you all will feel the same when the album releases. I certainly couldn't imagine the album without them, if that says anything about how special they are. :-)

Alright, I've held off on making any official announcements until now because I was tired of stringing you all along with an endless slew of posts about how it would be "just a little bit longer!" I've been making those posts since around this time last year and we've all seen how much that's worth :-P However, now I can finally say with confidence that...

The music of DKC3: Double the Trouble! is 100% FINISHED!

I hope this announcement alleviates any sort of pain (physical or mental) that may have been induced by the album's long lifespan. I can't express how happy it makes me to be able to finally say those words.

Before I get to the big picture stuff, I want to give a HUGE thanks to Theophany for really coming through on the last few tracks... the final WAV file containing both Beneath the Moonlight (Stilt Village GBA) and Distant Dreams on Stormy Seas (Game Over GBA) is over 12 and a half minutes long and sounds absolutely incredible. I know I can't speak for everyone, but it's my personal opinion that it was entirely worth the wait to allow this opus to realize its full potential. Beneath the Moonlight was arranged by Theophany and features extensive guitar performances from Harmony and Fishy, as well as live violin by Jeff Ball. The latter part of the track, the Game Over remix, was arranged primarily by me with sections added by Cody and Theophany, and produced with Theophany's incredible sample libraries. I'm extremely proud of the contribution I was able to make here and I'm sure all the other artists feel the same way.


So, a little overview now! This project was officially started in November of 2009, and made public 4 months later. This means that it took roughly 2 years and 10 months to finish. To put it in perspective, that's roughly the same time it took to produce the DKC2 album, which was half the size! With that in mind, I don't think we did too badly in terms of production time, despite what some of you may say :whatevaa:

The final tally here is 64 artists/performers, contributing 76 songs (64 main album tracks and 12 bonus tracks,) spanning over 5 discs and nearly 5 and a half hours of music. These figures place it comfortably above the competition as the largest OCRemix album to date. Those who have heard the whole album can vouch for the fact that we haven't just stuffed our tracklist full of half-baked filler remixes, either. I'm fully convinced that this album has built off of the greatness of the two DKC albums that have come before it, and improved in many areas overall.

But I don't necessarily expect you all to take my word for that, though... so in that spirit, I've also uploaded the long-awaited final audiovisual preview. Big thanks to Peach and Cody for producing this, hopefully it'll give you an idea about the kind of quality and diversity that you can expect from the final album. Please enjoy and share it around as much as you'd like, we'd love to build some publicity and hype as we move forward to release.

So what's next? At this point, I'm going to try and finalize the album eval package and get it uploaded tonight, since I won't be by a computer at all on Friday or Saturday. Most of the album eval has already been finished, so that phase shouldn't take nearly as long. We have most of the album artwork finished but I need to talk with TheMaverickk about getting that package 100% wrapped up. The website and the release trailer are the two things that we still need to start on, but that will be completed concurrently as we prepare for release.

I'm not really going to discuss release dates in detail, but I will say that we're deadset on a 2012 release at the very least. I'll say more when I can but I don't plan on getting into details regarding an exact date until we're a week or two away from release. I ask for just a little bit more patience while we get things wrapped up, but it brings me great joy to announce that the music of the project (which is really what this is all about, right?) is DONE!

My deepest gratitude goes out to Cody Wedel, Flexstyle, Theophany, Peach, TheMaverickk, and every artist who has put forth their best effort with their songs, and every one of you who has kept the hype alive, even when progress slowed to a crawl. This project wouldn't be worth very much without people who are looking forward to listening to it, so a hearty THANK YOU goes out to EVERYBODY who helped us along the way :-D I hope the final product does not disappoint.

I've been listening to the final preview over and over the past couple of weeks, and I must say, I'm really impressed with the fact that I haven't gotten tired of it yet, haha. Seriously, I think it's a testament to the quality of the music that I can listen to ~20- 30-second-long samples of a bunch of different songs repeatedly and not grow bored with it. I eagerly await the opportunity to infinitely loop the full album. :D

As for the release date question, I won't speak to that definitively, solely because every previous time I've said anything about when we're planning to release, we've ended up being way off the mark. On October's Day, I went darn near euphoric when I heard that this would be out by the end of December; That means we don't have to wait longer than the holiday season for it!

Listening to the "Past Previews All in One" and "Final Preview", I contemplated something. "Party's Over There" and "Funky's Tricks" kind of take me back to my childhood. In a city north of the college I attend, two of my parents' friends lived in a high-end affluent neighborhood/district. That also happened to be when DKC3 was released. That's when I knew that "Party's Over There" and "Funky's Tricks" were the songs to... take home to my family, because those two songs remind me of that particular neighborhood. In other words, if I was to present any of your work to my family, I'd send 'em links to those two tracks. Note that that's only based on the previews, I haven't heard them in their entirety yet.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that consensus... makes me a sad panda. Cliffside is not only one of my favorite tracks on the album, but it's one of my all-time favorite remixes. In any case I certainly hope it's accepted as well as (I think) it deserves to be.



Another runner-up for "favorite album track" is the bonus disc Water World SNES remix 'Dive'. If you like the original source and/or laidback music, you'll love it!

Without giving too much away, I will say that the GBA disc of the album is designed so that the gapless playback not only works between the tracks themselves, but also between the end of the last track and the beginning of the first track ;-) You'll see how we pulled it off when the album drops, but that little bit of continuity is something I'm pretty proud of!

To The Oinkness: What is shown in the previews of Let It Beat is a far cry from your original WIP. It's not as edgy, but it has a more simple charm to it.

Effective immediately, I've pulled ocremix off my Favorites bar so I don't click it absent-mindedly or otherwise in error like I did several times over the past 10 days. That way I can wait more gracefully for the window of my final prediction as to when Double The Trouble will drop: Between February 15 and March 25. I should've taken O-Clocked off my favorites a long time ago. We don't really publish a schedule, order, or priority of albums because it's not necessary or even good to do so. The only deadlines that are set by staff are internal, and since we all have regular lives on top of doing stuff here on OCR, the deadlines are not entirely steadfast. Things slip, things accelerate, nobody can predict it. All you really need to know is staff and directors are always hard at work to bring you great music. So, obviously, the next thing to come out will be...another OCR album, and you will hopefully enjoy it!

That being said, DKC3 is being worked on now and is getting close to final preparations. Not 100% if it is the next one that will come out BUT it is coming very soon, that you can rest assured.

Emunator, Flexstyle, Theophany, Bahamut, Level 99 and several others, including myself, have posted in this thread multiple times praising the album and saying it'll be worth the wait. There is enough AMAZING material here to keep you 100% musically occupied for weeks or months. It did to me, anyhow! I don't regret a single minute spent listening to this album.

I think the album is nothing short of beautiful. I say that not as an OC ReMix fan, or even as a Donkey Kong Country/David Wise/Eveline Fischer fan. I say it as a fan of quality-consistent, well-produced music. I also think that regardless of how long the wait is, it'll be worth it. It'll hit you like a massive tsunami of force and you'll have a lifetime supply of incredible Donkey Kong Country 3 remixes for your aural pleasure.

If you haven't already checked it out in its entirety, I urge you guys to all listen to the GBA soundtrack while you wait for the album to release. Really familiarize yourself with these arrangements because it will make a huge difference when you listen to some of the GBA remixes, it's hard to fully appreciate a remix until you know where it was derived from. This is some of Dave Wise's best work to date, I can't think of a better way to wait out the weeks/months/years ( ;-) ) before this album drops!

The soundtrack touches me in ways other game soundtracks haven't. When I listen to it, I don't want it to end. The tracks sound really gritty and the production is not very good (as one would expect from a GBA) but the arrangements are SO GOOD, and as far as individual song quality goes I'd say the music is right on par with DKC2, if not better. I strongly adore it, and this is coming from someone who initially hated the soundtrack because it was different (I was barely 14, gimme a break :P).

When I listen to Jangle Bells, I don't see Swanky's Dash or Tearaway Toboggan....I see white-washed blends of gray mixed in with smooth, metallic deliciousness. Nuts and Bolts doesn't remind me of Fire Ball Frenzy, but instead gives off dark, hazy, purplish hues with elements of a greenish gas. Waterfall is pure, crystalized ice with light blues and yellows. I can't even DESCRIBE how awesome Mill Fever looks. When I listen to GBA I go on a trip and see colors/textures of all sorts multiple times, something no other album, video game or not, has come even remotely close to for me. (Ok, there was that one time with Shpongle and LSD... hah, jk).

It`s a very cute drawing and it will make a great artwork for the album! Thank you for sharing with us in the anticipation of the album. The spirit of the game and its music is captured in this artwork. I still like the DKC2 cover art the most, which also captured the game`s spirit very well.

The artwork for DKC3 album is very positive, lively, creative, reminds of nature-exploring and nice moments in the Northern Kremisphere.

Yeah, I noticed the finger inconsistency as well. Though I did want to point out that one hand has five and the other has four. I'm sure that's what you meant :P

while we're pointing out flaws...i cant be the only one who scoffed at this "artists" rendition of the barrel. the vessel depicted here could generously be said to exceed a volume of 100 L, and could scarcely be expected to fit an ape of kiddy kong's girth, much less two in their adolescence.

i think i speak for all of us when i say that, given the high profile nature of this album, and if for no other reason than the sake of authenticity, the cover be modified to show kiddy kong's lifeless body sinking slowly to the bottom of the river, with dixie clutching the bottom of the barrel through which kiddy has now rent a gaping hole, desperately struggling to maintain her grip, but in vain, for want of a fifth finger

We make each album's trailer available in its torrent, and this should be no different. The video's only 720p, however. The only trailers so far that warranted 1080p was for NiGHTS: Lucid Dreaming and "Zelda 25".

I actually just busted out the SNES and started an EarthBound playthrough tonight for (surprisingly) the first time this year. Haven't got very far yet, as I'm currently levelling up on the Sharks, but I sincerely hope this shapes up to be one of my favorite playthroughs yet! (Then again, I can play through this game 100 times and find aspects of a "favorite" playthrough in each one). :)

But really, if the FF6 kickstarter is sticking with its mid-December date for the FF6 release, isn't the release window for this album going to be way too small? It's already (as good as) December 1st so that would give it a mere fortnight on the front page if it released on the 1st.. and that's not very much time to promote, talk about, but mostly enjoy such a huge album. Personally I would think an entire month would be great. But what is the deal? I am just wondering how this is going to work out. But nobody can probably say because of the secrecy.. that's ok. :cry:

Man, when this album releases I'm going to get so incredibly Intoxicated just for the occasion. You might think that's a bit Low Life of me, but I assure you it's Wonderfall!

Like the Knautilus, I'm going to Dive into a pool of nostalgia and let my problems slide away as I hear the entirety of Double the Trouble! It is here that I'll listen to the whole album in an incredible Undercurrent as I metaphorically visualize Deep Sea Lights--that is, the whole album in quite the euphoric, psychedelic way. The next morning I'd wake up All Mixxed Up but I'll deal with the Afterburn later. Until then, 'Til We Meet Again!
