Alright, seven more tracks still up for grabs. If you haven't heard the original soundtrack yet, please do. It's underremixed and underappreciated.
Let's GO GO GO!!!

my original was on my other computer, which was stolen.
i don't know when i'll get to the mix now. i don't have a recording setup, or a machine capable of running something past fl 3.56.

Shit, man. Sorry to hear that.
Well, I finally decided to make myself useful, and I sent out a PM or two today. Maybe this'll lead to some more tracks being claimed?
Also, don't wait for Walan, Arek, or I to contact you! If you are interested in the project, tell us. Even better, if something sparks your interest, go ahead and start up a WIP, if we have something to listen to from you, we will be more likely to want to have you on the team!
So, let's get out there and start bringing this project home. The main page shows 7 tracks available, but Arek has us believing that a secret remixer is working on one of the tracks...but he won't even tell Walan or I what track it is! So, that means there's really probably 6 available, unless one of the tracks is being duplicated. Which is just fine, as long as they're both nice work.
I sent a PM requesting 1 or 2 tracks to be remixed if the remixer is up for it. The remixer will be revealed later if it is agreed. So, the tracks are getting snatched up now. Grab one while you can!
In other news: sadorf let me hear his latest version of the intro, and it's really sounding good. Keep it up, sadorf!
Happy mixing

Nice try Coopy, but I just posted akumu's link about 20 minutes ago. LOL
The tracks are out of order, though. I'll have to go through and see what's what.
The current nsf does not give titles to each track, and they are out of order. (They are neither alphabetical, nor in the order they appear in the game)
So, to clarify a little for any new mixers considering the project, here is a list of the track names, and their corresponding track number on the nsf available here: http://megatwerp.com/akumusnsf/S/Super%20Dodge%20Ball.nsf
Title: 16
All Stars: 6
England: 2
India: 7
Iceland: 3
China: 5
Kenya: 4
Japan: 1
USSR: 8
Shadow: 9/19
VS Play: 11
Bean Ball:10
Credits/Staff Roll: 21
Set-up Team: 18
Loading/start round: 13
Bump!
And, Walan, I don't know what you think, but maybe listing the track titles/numbers in the first post would be helpful if a random musical genius wanders upon the thread, and is intrigued, and wants to know where to start?

If you are reading this and you are not part of this project, then PLEASE JOIN! The music from this game is awesome and even if you didnt grow up playing it like some of us did, it's still well worth remixing. so lets go! there's only 6 tracks left! C'mon guys, this isnt a large project by any means, so if just a few people step up to the plate then we could knock this baby out sooner than you can say bean ball! what do you say?

Why yes...yes I do want in. :-)
I didn't know vgmusic actually had midis of half the tracks. Walan wasn't kidding when he said the game had good music...this is not an april fool's joke!
I'd like to take Team USA, there is a midi for it on vgmusic but it isn't on the list. I would be using mostly synths, the instruments most native to america would be guitar. Would it be cool if I used synths instead?
If Team USA isn't an option I'll take Team China and I def got the instruments for that.
If you need to hear some tunes of mine let me know and I'll PM the coordinators.

i've been working a lot on this mix. i've got the opening re-constituted from what i had before my computer was taken, and have worked out parts for the rest of the song. it'll be pretty good. i recenly acquired the Virtual Electric Guitarist, Guitar Rig 2.2, and Addictive Drums vsts and have been putting them to good use for this song. the drums especially will be much better than anything i've ever done before, both in terms of samples and sequencing quality.

Perhaps you can send it my way (I'm still waiting for Walan to send it along, anyway). I'll give it a listen, and when I see Walan online, I can remind him to listen, and we can discuss.
A bump to bring this back up on the forum list.
Also, just checking in to say that GLL and I are still trying to work on something for the England theme.
Lyrics are written (by yours truly...so, they probably suck. Haha). GLL is working with the music, and I'm still trying to provide vocals in a key he likes, lmao.
Anyway, to the rest of you: Keep up the remixing, and for anyone still interested, there are still 4 tracks available:

India

Looks like Akumu's server is down, so the nsfe is currently unavailable. If you want a copy of the nsf files, and don't want to search, send me a PM and I can email you a copy.

I'd love to hear it, and I'm sure Walan would like to as well. I wonder if Arek is even still co-co-coordinating this...I haven't seen anything from him in this thread, and I've only talked to him on AIM a few times, once about the project only.

fair enough. don't forget i can act as a sounding board for ideas, too. aim is a good way to get in contact with me.
Chickenwarlord, I know what I said probably wasn't very constructive, but I don't know what you're capable of. I didn't mean to discourage you in any way with my reply after hearing your WIP. As soon as you come up with a mix that sounds like it's going somewhere, we'll gladly put you down as the claimer of the track. It doesn't have to be of the entire mix at first. If you just start with an intro, or just a few seconds from what will be the middle, and nail it as well as possible, that'll be a way to convince us. You can change it later as the mix evolves, but we want to hear something that shows you have what it takes first.
I talked to Walan on AIM today, and told him to make sure he listens to your sample as well. I don't know if he's gotten around to it or not yet.
-------
Also, Prophet - you can send your finished Kenya mix to Walan and I at any time. I sent Walan a PM of everything that needs to be updated on the first post, and it would be great to have you put down as "DONE" :) But, we need to hear the finished product before we can put you down as such. Thanks for your efforts, and thanks again for offering to contribute more through helping other mixers.
-----
Additionally, Akumu's archive (which is currently hosting the nsf) is unavailable. I will temporarily be hosting it on my own space in the meantime. Anyone who needs the nsf can get it here (http://mysite.verizon.net/jmaeriggle/SDB_nsf.htm)
Last, but not least: India, Japan, and the Closing Credits are still up for grabs, and as far as I know, nobody has expressed serious interest in them.
Chickenwarlord has expressed interest in the Title Screen, and I hope that he can make it work.

Hey, it's me again. I'm updating the tracklist now to include Prophet's finished track (you can send that to me, please) and Team England taken by Ghetto Lee Lewis.
Edit: thanks for rehosting the soundtrack, Mae. Akumu's excellent archive got fucked around with due to some drama over at the Shizz, but he should have it hosted on another site soon.
Team England taken by Ghetto Lee Lewis.
*ahem*
I wrote the lyrics (which will probably be altered - both vocally, and lyrically), and will be singing them, thankyaverymuch. It was his idea to collab with me again, but my idea to do it for this project.

Update!....
If i post saying what i am gonna say, it will make me work harder to finish my track since everyone will be expecting it.
My track should be pretty much completed by friday. By that time, all that should be left is a little bit of mastering and maaaaaybe an edit or 2 depending on the comments by mae and walan......and maybe a few others i will share it with.
SInce there arent really any deadlines, i think you all need to find a different way to get the mixers asses in gear to get their tracks at least close to complete.
That is all for now, think of this as an informative BUMP

Update too, have the basic rhythms all done for the 1st half. Just gotta add in some variations and change up some of the instruments in the 2nd half. I should have a near finished version in the next week or two. After that it's just tweaking based on feedback I get.
Excellent, both of you.
And while update fever is going on, I might as well provide one myself.
Lyrics for GLL and my mix are written. I'm waiting to hear some music from him so I can get to practicing singing the lyrics so they won't sound like any of my BEER mixes from way back when, and so he doesn't have to heavily edit the vocals to make me sound like a computerized voice again.
Unfortunately, I can't say we're almost done like the rest of you...but...umm...we have started?

And, see...I want to try to not need any serious fixing to my voice. But if worse comes to worse...you might want to let GLL know about it. Haha.

I may just be the only person left here who still has some sort of UnMod remembrance sig. UnMod was the very first message board I ever posted in, so I still want to keep some reminder of the "good old days" of UnMod, regardless if such a period existed or not there.
But anywho, chrono26 and Prophet have agreed on it, so the Title Screen track is taken. That leaves just three tracks left to be filled!
Also: chrono, sadorf, and GLL/Mae: What's the status on your mixes? Anything new to show from you guys?
And while I'm on this roll: who's excited for the upcoming Super Dodgeball DS sequel? (http://ds.ign.com/articles/828/828747p1.html)

Last I heard from sadorf he was just about finished with his. He made me rush to school one morning so I could get online and listen to his progress and give feedback. I did, and he never produced anything. So...that's up to him.
As for GLL and myself? Last I heard GLL was still trying to come up with music. He doesn't check email very often, and phone communication is at a halt. His phone has no screen, and no ringer. So I can call - but if I miss him, he won't call back because he doesn't know he has a missed call or who called him. Currently, my phone is out of commission - snapped in half *eek!* I'm waiting for Kyle to send me a used one, and then on Dec. 1st getting a new one with my contract thing for CrapT&T
If GLL and I ever get our mix off the ground, we can also have the MORTAL DODGEBALL!!! bonus OLR track.

writer's block atm. I want to do Japan's theme but it's difficult to come up with something fitting to the country with that source. Actually, I should say, difficult to come up with something original and fitting to the country with that source. It's a folk tune and it's been arranged so many different ways. Does it REALLY matter what style it's in?
avaris
12-13-2007, 01:08 AM
IMO just use some instruments that are native to that country and should get the point across.
I got tons of percussion and samples of japanese instruments. I mainly got flute and plucked styled sounds. If you arrange it I can throw my samples over it no problem. That way you can just concentrate on writing a strong arrangement.

Seriously though, in THREE years, you'd think that for each person they'd be able to make ONE song. My song has been done for almost three years, so what took so long?
The same thing happens with just about every "project" on OCR or otherwise. I've done this, the Dragon Warrior one, the Follin one, and a couple others off of this site that have just gone nowhere.
I applaud Mustin and folks for getting something completed, even though I may still be biased towards my own bean ball track.

It's pretty rough around the edges, and I probably used more compression on it than I should have for the style, but since this was three years ago and I've improved a bit since then, it's forgivable.

So, I woke up this morning, visited OCR because I haven't in a while, and found out that the Bad Dudes released an SDB album. It feels like I'm in junior high gym class again, and I just took a dodge ball to the face.
I'm not mad or upset or angry or anything. I've known for years that Mustin was interested in arranging the SDB soundtrack, and it looks like he beat his procrastination sooner than I did. In fact, I'm pretty excited because he gathered together a great list of artists, including some who I tried to unsuccessfully recruit over the years. This is a must download for me later today.
As for Around the World...
I just can't take my dodge ball and go home on this one. Cancelling the project would be selfish of me and unfair to the people who worked on it. Hell, there are tracks that will be posted to OCR after the project's out, and that's way more than I could've hoped three years ago. I'm gonna mull over my options on this one and get back to you guys. But I think it's time for a project restart. Stuff that's being made now I WANT DONE. Stuff I have that hasn't been updated in years (I'm looking at you, Rexy) I WANT UPDATED. I'll post more thoughts on this later. For now, I'm gonna download the Kenya remix and get my zyko fix.
Murmeli Walan
05-21-2008, 03:44 PM
May 21, 2008: So guess what? Looks like we got beat to the punch. Mustin and the Bad Dudes have put together their own SDB tribute album and released it recently. It's called "No Balls, No Glory" and you can download it over at www.noballsnoglory.net I just finished listening to the album, and I can easily say that it's one of my favorite fan remix albums to date. I'll have my personal review up later today. However, it leaves me with a big question: what do I do with Around the World? Mustin was able to get together some real big names in the game remix community for his album, including a few that I tried to recruit without success. Hell, he even found support from the team that's putting together the upcoming Super Dodge Ball Brawlers for the Nintendo DS. I'm sure I wouldn't be given the time of day if I tried contacting a company like that. So what do I do here? Do I tuck my tail between my legs and go crawling away? No, I just can't do that. I really have a deep love and appreciation for Super Dodge Ball and Sawa's soundtrack. For me to just cancel this project would be selfish to me and unfair to the artists that I did recruit. At the same time, however, I can't just sit here and ignore the album while it idles like it has for the past couple years. If anything, the No Balls, No Glory album has inspired me to march ahead and get this album finished. I have some big ideas floating around in my head now about how Around the World can possibly hang with the Bad Dudes album. But to do that, I need to take care of the project's loose ends that have be bothering me as of late.
Today, I'm ordering a restart of the Around the World project.
I have ideas in my mind for which artists to contact next, but I'm putting that on the back burner. The first thing that needs to be done is to deal with the languishing list of artists that either never sent me final versions of their tracks or updates to works in progress. I am setting a current remixer deadline for this coming Friday the 13th, June 13th. This is exactly three weeks from this Friday. This is what I want: if you are listed as Yes or No on the track listing above, then I want an updated WIP. If you are listed as DONE, then I want a FINAL VERSION of the track sent to me in an uncompressed .wav format. ANYONE ON THE LIST WHO FAILS TO MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS BY JUNE 13TH WILL BE BOOTED FROM THE PROJECT. After the Friday the 13th deadline, when we'll concentrate on filling in the remaining track list slots.
ONCE AGAIN, THE DEADLINE TO TURN IN EITHER A FINAL UNCOMPRESSED .WAV OF YOUR TRACK OR AN UPDATED WIP IS ON FRIDAY, JUNE 13TH, THREE WEEKS FROM THIS FRIDAY. ANYONE WHO FAILS TO MEET THIS DEADLINE WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE ALBUM.
I will personally try to get into contact with all of my artists about the deadline. I know that some of you who finished their songs a long time ago may not have those project files around anymore, we'll discuss this soon. For now, I want this project to start moving again.
Edit: holy crap, I just realized that the Around the World project is so old, they were talking about it on VGDJ. And I mean the Aurora/Rayza VGDJ, too. :P

With four tracks unclaimed, and three possibly in limbo, perhaps you should see about either making a short lived new thread, or moving this one, to Community to do some re-pimping of this. Might stir up some new talent to help put those last four - seven tunes to bed.
Hey all. This is mostly a bump, but it's also a quick little update for anyone keeping track of this project - but not necessarily checking out the judging forum.
We have two tracks that have already been accepted for posting on OCR after this project gets finished up:
Avaris - Super Dodge Ball 'Breakbeat Market' *PROJECT*
The Prophet of Mephisto - Super Dodge Ball 'Rockin the Yard' *PROJECT*
I'll take this moment to extend a very warm "nice work" :nicework: to Avaris and The Prophet of Mephisto for their excellent tracks. I'd also like to encourage the other remixers with finished tracks to submit (or resubmit if that is the case). There is some amazing talent already on the project.
If there's anyone still watching this thread who hasn't offered to help out - now's the time. We still have a few openings, and any additional talent will be very welcome.

I agree with Prophet. See if making a thread in Community, or at the very least, getting this thread transported back to Community for a little while, is doable. There aren't as many songs left as the Dragon Warrior project, but there are enough to warrant some advertising to try and draw in some more talent.
I'd suggest sending out a mass of PMs to various remixers, but that could be potentially pretty time consuming to try and dig through the names you haven't already tried... even with the new PM setup. Though if you had some new people in mind, perhaps sending them a PM on top of the advertising in Community might not be a bad idea.

Got some pretty rad ideas. Hopefully I can pull them off.
Theory of Nonexistence: If you come up with some sort of WIP, go ahead and shoot it on over to Walan or myself. We'll love to hear it!
In the mean time, I decided to go ahead and give the community forum a shot. I wasn't exactly sure how to go about starting the thread (what should it say? Should it be exactly like the first post for this thread? etc) so....I just typed and hit submit.
Anyway, drop on by over here: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=437361#post437361
Check it out, leave a post, give it some views, make it known and seen. :-) Thanks all!

I started this project when I started college. At the time, I had no idea of just how much of my time college would eat up. I refuse to just cancel it because that would be insulting to the people who donated their time to the project.

I feel the same way about... projects I've started myself not knowing how much time would spent/wasted on it. I'm not saying you should give up on it at all, I was just surprised to see that so little progress had been made since last time I considered helping out. And like then, lack of time is all that holds me back. That and the general experience I have of projects, started by me or by others, being a lot less positive than I would wish.
I didn't notice the disclaimer in the first post until now. Too bad these people didn't help you out instead. I don't know if they joined Mustin's project because they were his friends or because Mustin's sort of a celebrity when it comes to these things, but it still sucks they turned you down and not him. For shame, as they say.
EDIT: Haha, Kazuo Sawa also made the music for Nintendo World Cup. I thought I recognized the style. NWC's soundtrack sounds more professional though, I think, and it was made later too, so I guess that's why.

Gave the England track a listen and couldn't think of what to make of it, then I listened to "maybe we should stick to football"... and I guess that's pretty much as good as it gets. The drums are a little too obviously fake, but other than that...

yeah...about the...lack of radicalness. At the time of that post, I was working on it. It sounded great. I failed at saving. My comp crashed. I tried to recreate it. It wasn't working. I lost motivation. Now I'm in college and most of my time is devoted to class and practicing my sax and piano. Sorry...if I get some free time in the near future, I'll attempt it again

I DID IT FOR THE FAME.
NBNG wasn't created to usurp the OCR project. Also, I only join projects if I know the people running them. I know Mustin (so do the rest of the guys who did NBNG). I don't know Walan or Mae.
That's not to say I don't like Walan or Mae, or I think Walan and Mae are lame, or I don't respect Walan or Mae. I just don't know them.
Looking forward to hearing the finished product guys. You're super close.

Ok, I feel like I should address this now before it gets out of hand. I had actually forgotten what I said when I made that disclaimer last May. Reading it now, it feels a little...bitter. I just want to say right now that I have a ton of respect for Mustin and the people who worked on NBNG. I have that album burned to a CD that's in my car right now. Despite a few comments and jokes that I've made in the past, I'm not upset at the Bad Dudes at all for "stealing my thunder", as it were. In fact, back when I first had the idea for AtW, I asked Mustin if he would be interested, to which he told me that he was throwing ideas around for an SDB album of his own. He had thought up his SDB album independently of mine. We both just love that soundtrack and decided that albums should be made as a tribute to the music. It's not like NBNG threw me off guard or anything, I was half expecting it to come out for years.
Again, I just want everyone to know that I'm not sitting here at my desk QQing about how how some big bad Internet celebrity stole my album idea, kicked sand in my face, screwed my girlfriend, and teabagged my mother.

1/30/09 Update: Okay...minor setback. avaris and The Prophet have pulled their tracks from the project. I thank them both greatly for their interest in AtW, and I hope their tracks get posted on the front page soon. :)
As for us, I'm on the verge of making a big announcement that will ensure that AtW will be finished in 2009. More info to come soon, depending.

This is NOT the major announcement. This is what searching SDB on YouTube gets me.

Yes, I know about Team USSR being a Russian folk tune. But this song has SDB sound effects in it, so I think that counts as something. Also, AkumajoBelmont's mix is much better than this.

Kyle will be handling contacting remixers and filling up the last positions on the soundtrack, so please refer to him for anyone who is interested in filling up the remaining slots on the album. Also, AtW forums will be up soon at http://kngi.org/forum/index.php. Welcome again, Kyle!

3/17/09: A number of track updates to report on today. Protricity has been confirmed to take Team India. Sixto Sounds will cover both Team Shadow and Versus Play (chrono26 is still taking those tracks as well. We'll have two versions of both those songs on the final album.) Rexy is taking another look at her Iceland track (she originally finished it in 2006) and is going to change/update the arrangement. Finally, Fishy is offering his services for "guitar wankery" if artists are interested. More developments to come soon.

I know I am not well known around here but I would like to give this project my contribution, I can try to remix the japan theme, if that is ok with the organizers.

Alright, since things are moving forward and progression in happening nicely with this project, Walan and I have decided to set up a WIP due date. This date will be:
April 18th, 2009
If you have not given a WIP to myself or Walan already, or if it has been an extended amount of time since your last one, I will be contacting you. If you are looking feedback on your work, you can register at http://kngi.org/forum/, and I will grant you access to the private ATW sections where other musicians and the directors from the project can offer critique and advice.

Not sure if I'm going to make that deadline... I'm going on a study tour next week and won't be back untill the 22nd (I'll finally visit the US). So unless I can whop up something this weekend, I won't be making any WIPs untill the end of April.

I won't be able to post WIP as soon as I thought but I will surely bring one up before the deadline that proposed. As some people who know me from PRC I tend to dissappear due to schedule in work.

DCT has taken Team Kenya. All tracks have officially claimed!
On another note, the guys at 8-Bit Instrumental are looking for MIDIs of the Ending and Credits themes. Both me and them have searched all over and can't seem to dig up any, so is there anyone out there who might be willing to transcribe these tracks to MIDI? I went the NSF2MIDI route, but obviously those sound pretty awful, so something better would be much appreciated. Thanks!
