Woot for Goa/Psytrance on OCR! Doesn't happen nearly enough (heck, has it ever happened before?), and Andy and Jill did a spectacular job!

*Adds this to my playlist of Psytrance*

To be honest though, it sounds a little more of the Goa Trance side of Psytrance. Very organic rather than industrial (which is what a lot of Infected Mushroom's stuff leaned toward)

The synths on the other hand are bold beefy and dare I say sexy.

Excellent vocal showing, and the ethnic feel is suuuuuuuuuper present. So yea, great job!

[15:11:14] <@djpretzel> nice, vocals definitely add a lot, though it was already great to begin with
[15:34:24] <Shariq> jill almost fooled me in that mix
[15:34:33] <Shariq> but there's one scoop she does that i hear
[15:34:36] <Shariq> and i'm like
[15:34:39] <Shariq> "not arab. :|
[15:34:39] <Shariq> "
[15:34:51] <anosou> hahaha
[15:35:00] <anosou> You better post that in the review thread
[15:38:12] <oa> agreed<3 u jill

Eh, this is okay. It's pretty boring, and not even by psytrance standards. Nevermind the fact that it's... not really psytrance. But that's just nitpicking. Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward. Some of the brickwall mastering sounds really out of place, and it overall just seems like sort of a mash-up of timbres that don't really seem to go together. Maybe too many ethnic instruments and not enough synthetic. Just seems contrived, really.

Haha, you know I really need to stop even mentioning the genre of what I'm doing in my sub letters. People always seem to nitpick about it; the point of mentioning it is really just to describe my influence and inspiration going in, rather than the end result, since a lot of what I do doesn't fall into any genre. Also not really sure what you mean by 'brickwall mastering', this is no louder than anything else I do, and much quieter than anything YOU do :-)

Anyway, thanks all for the comments. I'm actually playing Hakan right now in SSF4 and he's every bit as fun as I hoped he would be. In fact, he's even more fun!

It's not my favorite Zircon remix, but it is still really good. I love the vocal touch by pixie and I think it's a remix that I'll listen to again and again.

Poor Zircon, he's set the bar to high for himself. Kinda like what Binster did with his Ghouls'N Ghosts Poltergeist remix.

Anyways. I thought it was great and kudos again on the voice aspect combined with Zircon's more than adequate remixing.

This shit is sick. I love every part of it. I wouldn't dare nitpick any of this Mr. Z. The guy that actually did nitpick you, he could only do that and justify it by meeting you on the field of remix battle and be trounced soundly by your masterful Haiduken mixer skills.

I'd cry foul if it wasn't Beatdrop saying this, lol. Personally, I kinda like the mishmash of genres, but it's more like ethnictronica with a psytrance edge. Still is teh awesomes though! :nicework:

I would classify this one as "collab, electronica, ethnic, singing, synth, trance, vocals" myself.

It's not my favorite Zircon remix, but it is still really good.
Poor Zircon, he's set the bar to high for himself.

Pretty much have to agree here, I was thinking exactly this yesterday when I listened to it.

Not to say this is bad at all (its pretty damn awesome, and I still enjoy this more than the best output of other ocremixers) but I still think you can do better than this :P

That said, I gotta say I'm loving the stylistic fusions going on here, really gives a unique and pleasing sound.

I believe I said "Nevermind the fact that it's... not really psytrance. But that's just nitpicking." Key word here is "nevermind." I believe I'm entitled to my subjective thoughts, and those thoughts are that it just isn't a very exciting remix. The vocal edits were neat, but the song as a whole felt really uninspired and forced. As for what I said about the mastering, I wasn't referring to volume level, I was referring to the hard limiting present throughout the song, with a prime example being the drum fill at 1:04. Basically, it sounds over-compressed. But more importantly than any technical gripes I have with the song, I just think it's pretty boring.

Er, I wasn't singling you out, Dain... Cyril the Wolf and Flexstyle commented on genre classification, too, and it reminded me of a VGDJ stinger we did way back when. Just thought it was funny. Lighten up!

I like the idea behind this mix, don't get me wrong, it is totally juno reactor-esque and I love that; it's certainly a unique style to OCR.

It's just... the production is really keeping me from enjoying this to its fullest extent.

The drums are lacking in punch and power, in fact the whole mix is very flat, which I find strange for a zircon production.

The arrangement is badass, though, so props there - probably just a one time fluke of the ears with the mixing.

This is still an easily recommendable track to electronic music fans, it's a lot of fun.

Though, now you've got me wanting to do an ethnic track, which I definitely don't have the time to do... curses

When I read "psytrance" in the write-up, I thought of something like the Goa I used to listen to in the late 90s, but the remix at hand is much, much "softer" than the old stuff.

Once the resulting confusion was gone, though, I enjoyed the remix. Very strong ethnic feel, good use of vocals, lots of variation.

Hakan's voice sample though...I can understand wanting to use it, as it (and the whole trailer) is awesome, but it sounds so incredibly low-fi compared to the rest of the mix. Probably would've been better if it weren't in the remix.

Wow, great song! When I saw zircon's name, my face lit up. Then I saw Infected Mushroom mentioned in the write-up, and my face lit up even more. Then I heard the song and everyone in the room was blinded. :P Excellent work, as always.

I find it biologically impossible not to toetap, headbob (aka "djp") or in some fashion move to this mix. (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02028/)

It's almost physically impossible not to toetap, headbob, or gesticulate rhythmically in some other fashion whilst listening. (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01974/)

djpretzel, you have a music-related reflex arc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatic_nervous_system#Reflex_arcs) in your somatic nervous system. The only prescription... is less cowbell.

Self-plagiarism!That's a very serious charge! djpretzel needs to take himself to court, where if found guilty he will have to pay himself a fine. He ought to know better than to try to pass off his own work as if it was his own. Next time he should get his permission before quoting himself without attribution.

Psytranced-charged electronica? You have my attention. The beginning is easily the best part. Jill's vocals REALLY sets this up nicely. Then the music just sounds so amazing! I can actually relax to this even though it's upbeat for 99% of the track. The voice clip was a nice touch, especially since you didn't over do it with Hakan sounds all over the mix. Outro was very nice and settled out well. Very cool. It's almost criminal on how long it took me to review this, but Zircon, Jill, A + for you!
