I'm waiting for this, actually. We need to start acting like all of the rock and metal songs that are going to be on this project, not the light orchestral and ambient ones! :P

12 minutes? Well, I'm not about to be outdone. Hmph!

Anyways, Kyle, I sent a PM your way detailing my profile page and such. Plus a cool picture! You guys will all admire my picture, dammit!

Anyways, I'll start on Mid Galds soon. Hemo's a bit busy, so he said I should start it off. Here's to another so-fucking-demented awesome-hardcore song!

Actually, I've enjoyed everything Christian has had released.

Anyways. I just got back from Las Vegas. Got to see the Blue Man Group live at Luxor with my lovely, beautiful girlfriend who bought me the tickets for my birthday... Which was just AWESOME. Had a really great time...

Anyways. I was hoping this project would be done already. :P Just kidding.. lol

Anyways, was hoping there would be some WIP's I could check out sometime soon?

KyleJCrb
07-01-2005, 09:18 AM
Hunt through the last few pages of the thread. There's some WIPs around.

Oh, and for the curious, the VG music community's resident live instrument contest, the Dwelling of Duels (http://dod.vgmix.com/), featured an arrangement from Tales of Symphonia this month. It was a joke entry, since it's pretty rough, and far from finished, but Crimson plans on completing it eventually. Check it out here (http://www.vgmix.com/song_view.php?song_id=4202), and check out the rest of the entries, too!

EDIT: Updated the link to the song to the newer version.

All right, since it's 5 AM, I'm bored as hell, and I can't sleep anymore, I went and updated almost every profile. Links to peoples' arrangements on the major remix sites are now functional, and some of the more recent information I received has been added. Yay, or something.

KyleJCrb

07-03-2005, 05:09 PM
Kyle, you know I've finished a song for the project ;) what makes you think I'd quit now?

KyleJCrb
07-04-2005, 11:46 PM
Oh, I know you won't quit, Rexy. I'd have to hurt you, because your song is too good. :P

I was just explaining why I'm trying to get all of this stuff done so quickly (with having remixer profiles at this stage in the project, and etc. etc.). :P I'm working on adding some new updates right now to the pages right now, by the way.

And yes, I am now back.

Or in reality, ZTNet got drunk and messed up the servers. Whatever. XD

KyleJCrb
07-05-2005, 05:59 AM
Hehe, I heard about that.

In other news, that 12 minute arrangement is up over at the WIP forums (http://kylejcrb.com/forum/index.php). Go check it, and the rest of WIPs, out, and leave your comments!

Sir_NutS

Good news, my song is almost done. I exported an almost final version yesterday (It still need a last section that I think will last about 40 seconds) but couldn't upload it because I was tired as hell and went to sleep. But I think I'll be able to upload a "Final" version tonight. Depending on the comments I get I will work on it more. Anyways, just an update.

DarkeSword is the guy who assesses projects to see if they are worthy of being put into Site Projects (I put in my case for the project last night, in fact, so it might be moving soon), and since he's already a remixer on the project anyway, he will of course be getting access.

Here's the big news that's been at least a week in the making:

Three of the current Gods of Guitar (there's quite a few these days :P) in the VG remix community, PriZm, housethegrate, and Ashane, are to collaborate on The Law of the Battle. As if this project wasn't metal enough already...

I was planning on rerecording my guitar work on my song, but I broke four of my fingers. They aren't horrible fractures, but they are there, and I am not sure how long it will take them to heal. But don't fret, I'm sure if won't take long.

I currently paused my Morias Gallery remix to work a little bit on my alternate song (and I am completely addicted to it), I will be handling a WIP over here real soon.

I am really busy with school, but by the 15 of this month I will be on vacations then I will have plenty of time to finish my two mixes.

SoS has demostrated forward momentum and progress in the past few weeks. As such, it has been moved to Site Projects.

Keep the momentum going!

Kyle and Lea have been given Project Coordinator status in this forum; as such, they are able to moderate this thread.

Also, to everyone, keep in mind: this isn't UnMod or GD, so no messing around. Don't use this thread for personal, irrelevant conversations; this is a project thread dedicated to the project. Lets keep it that way.

Carry on.

Now Kyle has some big "Site Projects" authority! We'd better not slack off for sure, now. XD

My mixes are coming along nicely. I'm eager to unveil my alternate *secret project*, but it'll take a while to get everything in order.

KungFu, that's too bad! Don't worry about it too much, even if they take a little longer to heal, any one of the guitarists here could help you out.

Can't wait to hear your new WIP(s), Fox!

Let me just say that this is awesome - I'm so glad to see that everyone's working hard and has shown so much drive and commitment to the project - as dripping with melted processed cheesiness as it may sound, it's a really good feeling to be working with such a great group. I hope that this boosts momentum even further. :D

Oh, my! The project has reached official site project status! Yay!!! *jumps around and throws colored paper squares everywhere*

Seriously, it's been a great time watching this project grow from Kyle trying to get some people together to today's state. It's a real success story ^-^

I'm sorry I didn't do anything on my contribution for some time, but I will depart for Germany very soon (in about a week) and thus, will only be able to continue working when I'm back again (that is in about four weeks). I hope I get the time to finish a second song, as well (I don't really want to do a rushed quickie, I prefer something more elaborated)

But even though I don't change anything about the Iselia song I am working on, there's a big chance that I will release a long anticipated new track on VGMix pretty soon so stay tuned :)

yeah sorry about that Kyle, again, I couldn't upload it yesterday because as you can see Here (http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200504.html) Hurricane Dennis Passed really close to my country yesterday, causing lotsa rain, wind and thunderstorms, which in turn caused several blackouts impeding me from using my pc to finish the song.

Good afternoon everyone!

http://www.savefile.com/filehost/files.php?fid=2088127

This is the first WIP of my alternate song. The idea is to blend laid back hip hop with jazz and bossa nova. Don't forget that there will be rapping over this so...

Hope you guys like it. I might be coming back today or tomorrow (in fact most likely Saturday hahahah) with the newst version of my Morias arrangment!

Keep up the good work dudes!!!

Anyhow, as you noticed, I am no longer a part of this project. As much as I would love to be *and trust me, I love this soundtrack*, I can't. My project is taking more energy than I thought to run. I wish kyle the upmost best of luck in this.

Just a small announcement:

THIS PROJECT IS NOW IN FULL LOCKDOWN.

No new remixers will be able to join, unless another remixer currently on board has to leave the project for whatever reason. What you're looking at on the main page is essentially what the finished project will look like.

Please note that any remixers currently involved may still take advantage of the "extra alternate song" rule, as outlined in the first post.

This is it, folks! Now the work really begins. ;)

XMark has a WIP of his Sylphis song up over at the forums. Go check it out!

EDIT: I also just took a look and counted the days left to get a WIP of your song in if you haven't already; you have twenty days to do so. If you do not, you will be publicly scorned and humiliated, so don't let that happen! :P If you aren't sure if you've submitted a WIP, check the current song status list (http://kylejcrb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16) at the forums. Remember, WIPs don't have to be anything definite; just a minute or two of some decent ideas and material. Keep workin'! :)

I got something done for Mid Galds, but it's not enough for me to post a demo yet [these are my personal beliefs about WIPs I guess]... maybe Hemo can, but it's only like 1 minute of done :P I usually like to have the whole structure down before I change anything.

Cool status list! This whole project feels super-organized. I really should show off a small preview bit of Raising a Curtain, but I don't like to "give too much away", so to speak. ^^

KyleJCrb

Speaking of the status list, I've updated it a bit. I am open to discussing a possible exemption if you feel you won't have a WIP ready by August 1st, but I'm not being lax about it, so prepare a good excuse. :P

I've also decided to minimize the amount of information in the first post, as most of the information is available on the website now. Makes the post easier to edit, too. :P

Aw man, i know, I still need to comment on peoples' stuff O.o Good news is, I've wrapped up my PRC entry and will now focus on the remaining WIPs that I've yet to comment on, whether it be here, on other projects or otherwise.

So yeah. Time to scaddle off... ;)

I think you guys should take off my ability to check out WIP's now that I am not involved in this, that is if you haven't already. I just don't feel right being able to view them even if I basically cut myself from doing any music.

OK, this is the last post I make from Switzerland. I will be on vacation in Germany for a little bit more than three weeks now, so I am not able to work on my mixes in that time. I have internet there, though, and will check out the forums when I got the time :)

My train will depart in a few hours and I need some rest, so CU l8er!

Hey, I know I haven't kept up on this thread, but I just wanted to post my WiP here. Kyle was kind enough to host it for me.

http://www.kylejcrb.com/talesproject/WIPs/M-H_Glint_of_Light_Demo.mp3

There's some tuning issues cause my guitar won't intonate right for me right now. I'm getting a new Bridge for my Gibson that should (hopefully) take care of this.

I'll redo the drums, which I played in with my keyboard and quantized all to hell. I'm not digging the snare sound, I'll go back to my normal one next revision.

A few guitar errors here and there. This is very rough. I dig the wah (did I overdo it?) however.

Hatchet, you know precisely what goes well and not in your song... looking good so far.
Fox, I think that in the collab (the bar tune) the melody is maybe a little too hard to hear in the 2nd half of the piece... but who am I to judge that. Going to listen to the Moria piece now.

By the way, has anyone heard from housethegrate already? I'm really really really looking forward to his song, but the progress list doesn't give me much hope. I mean, he HAS the most rock-classed song from the game (probably the best song)... Please give me some good faith ;)

EDIT: WOw... The Moria ReMix is great! First the normal tune, then the jazz, then the distorted and then a little techno... and it all has one continiuing feeling to it: good job man. And about being nuts because of the tune, everyone had that moment after getting to be bottom level of the Gallery and then had to go back up. I can only imagine how crazy you must be after attempting to actually remixing it! :P

I've been talking to house, so don't worry about him; I know he'll get the track completed. He has a few other songs for other projects that he's gotta work on, too. Plus he just moved recently. But he'll be in. ;)

UPDATE

We are now two weeks from the first WIP deadline of the Summoning of Spirits project. The level of work thus far has been amazing, and most of the remixers seem extremely focused on getting this project completed. At this point, there are 20 mixers that haven't submitted a WIP yet, which is about half of those involved with the project (there are 40 songs, and 36 remixers). That is extremely good progress, so keep up the great work, guys!

For this date, I'm still expecting 15 remixers to send me WIPs (check the "Post-Planning Stage" list on the status post (http://kylejcrb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16) to see if you're there). You may have noticed a few that are exempt from the date, due to things that are beyond anyones control, and some that are currently in "Pending" status. If you're one of the 15 that I'm expecting a mix from, but don't feel that you'll be able to get something in by the date, feel free to contact me; I'm open to discussion and negotiations that can work to our benefit. If you haven't started yet, PLEASE DO SO! If I come to you and you say that you have absolutely nothing for the song, then you may possibly be removed. At this point, ANY WIP IS FINE! Just send me SOMETHING!

Also, if it's been awhile since I've heard from you, please try to contact me (if I don't contact you first) and let me know what your progress is, whether you've submitted a WIP or not. Some people I need to hear from:

CC Ricers
Ichitootah
Master Link

On a side note, I may be conducting a chatroom meeting for coordinators and remixers to participate in sometime after the due date, but that's just an idea for now.

Other than that, I don't have much else. Keep sending me those WIPs, folks! Show me what you have!

OMG TRI-RI-RI-RIPLE POST!

Cross-posted from the project forums (http://kylejcrb.com/forum/):

Whoooooa! SoS made it to the radio! Seriously!

For those of you who frequent OCR, you might be familiar with VGDJ (http://www.vgdj.net/), the official OCR Podcast (you can learn more about Podcasting at their site). In the latest incarnation of the show (which would be #010 =P), our very own Kureejii Lea gets on Arcanas case regarding his remix live on the air, and also provides some insight on the status of the project. It's nothing we don't already know, but it's great to hear nonetheless. Special thanks to Rayza and Aurora for mentioning us several times (check shows #008 and #003 for other mentions), and to Lea and Arcana for saying horrible, mean, and nasty (yet true!) things about the project live on the air. Check it out! (http://www.vgdj.net/2005/07/vgdj-special-episode-010.html)

Tired of idling on slow, boring forums? Come idle in slow, boring chatrooms instead! :P Come in and discuss the project, or whatever we happen to be discussing. The chat is open to anyone, so stop on by! If you have an IRC client, such as Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc) or mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/), here's how to get there:

Channel: #talesproject
Server: irc.esper.net
Port: 6667

If you don't have an IRC client, or don't want to bother with downloading one, you can visit the chatroom via this web portal: http://www.kylejcrb.com/talesproject/chat/

I also recommend that when you get there that you register your username, like so:

/nickserv register *yourusername* *yourpassword*

Every time you join the chat, it will bug you about identifying yourself, so just pop this in (if you don't, you'll get kicked off):

/nickserv identify *yourpassword*

And that's it. Hope to see you there!

Well, the first WIP due date has officially past. What a showing it was, too. Only one person who wasn't granted exemption has failed to turn anything in (I won't mention any names *coughAshanecoughcough* :P) and the work so far? Holy shit you guys are gonna make this thing ROCK! Awesome work coming out of all remixers involved. Things are moving along quite rapidly, as well, so keep up the good work!

The next due date will give the remixers a little less time to work, but most of you should still have plenty of time to get an update to me. I want to hear from EVERYONE, even those who have finished your compositions and are just waiting to record parts on live instruments or whatever. Please get a new, updated WIP to me or Lea (though I think most all of you have been talking to me) by September 12th. Again, the next due date is September 12th. That's all!

Speaking of which, has cover art come into the picture yet, or is it too early to think about that?

KyleJCrb
08-02-2005, 09:49 AM
Some very vasic ideas of cover art/case inserts have been discussed by Lea and I, but nothing is definite yet. Here's the ideas we have:

-Two different artwork sizes - Since this project will very likely be around 4 CDs long, we're planning on making two different sizes of artwork that will fit on both extra-large DVD cases (http://www.tapeandmedia.com/detail.asp?product_id=4DVD3-DKGRY) (ones that will hold 4 CDs/DVDs) and extra-large CD cases (http://shop.cd-writer.com/acatalog/ALL_PRODUCTS_QUAD__4_DISC__JEWEL_CASE_1036.html) (like the kind multiple disc Playstation games came in).

-A full color booklet with information about the games, songs, and remixers - I'm thinking that this will be DVD case-sized only. The actual layout and design of the booklet pages (the front cover being the exception) will be done by myself. Booklet will be in Adobe Acrobat format so it can be easily seen on the web, as well.

-Cover artwork/art for the page backgrounds in the booklet to be drawn by Kureejii Lea - The subject matter of the artwork will stay under wraps until the project is complete. I'm not even sure remixers will get to see it. :P

That's it so far. Of course, suggestions are welcome, but it's probably a bit early to really be discussing this in too much detail.

All right, since the website is still down, this is our base of operations for now. I've put the detailed status list in the first post (let me know if any of it is wrong; I had to rebuild it from scratch), and will take any WIPs you have via PM here. Since most of you are doing so well, I'd prefer not to have WIPs posted publicly here at this point. If you feel the need to get feedback, clear it with me first. I'll be sending out a mass PM (perhaps to all of you, even if I've spoken to you recently) to update everyone on the current status of the project. Remember, the due date is September 12th, but I want to hear WIPs from all of you as soon as possible.

A very simple announcement, and hopefully should be common sense to most of you:

DO NOT DELETE YOUR WORK FILES PRIOR TO THE PROJECTS RELEASE!

Your Reason/FrtuiyLoops/whatever files, or even your raw instrument recordings. Do not delete ANY of them, even after you get your song completed. I say this because there are things that might have to be adjusted/changed in the future, and the your work files might be necessary to do this.

Just a reminder! ;)

Just wanted to inform everyone here that I am back...almost... I had a lot of stress during my three weeks of "vacation", so I need a bit of rest before I can get on with the work for any project.

In addition, a friend of mine, Zak, has started his own project (A Seiken Densetsu 3 ReMix project) and entitled me to being his co-coordinator. This doesn't mean a lot of work, but here and there I need to lend him a helping hand to organize things :)

So you guys and gals have still to be a bit patient before I can get rollin' again :)

Okay, so there's not really any inactivity, but progress has slowed down a bit. A few WIPs here and there, some status updates, the usual; I'm still looking forward to hearing stuff from you guys, so send it along or post it over in the WIP boards at the forums!

Please don't choke us, Darth Lord Kyle.

You must never underestimate the power of the Dark Side. After all, we've got cookies!

If you're a project remixer, you'll probably be hearing from me today. Just the usual; quick status checkup, to see how you're doing on your songs if you haven't given me a recent update.

DO NOT DELETE YOUR PROJECT FILES EVER!

Quoted and fixed for emphasis. As an artist releasing music on the internet, you should never, ever delete your project files for any composition, remix or otherwise. It's the only proof you really have that the song was made by you.

I'm sure in this particular case though, we're talking about lossless encodes. :P

Good point. And yes, we're talking lossless encodes, and perhaps a little something in the post-production/engineering department. But we shell sea about that one. :P

I'm a nutbar and sometime go back and mess around with the engineering on songs I completed years ago. I can't understand why someone would delete little project files! It's like killing your own children. o.O;

Well, after a somewhat extended absense, I've finally returned. For those wondering what happened, it seemed that my cable modem fried on Thursday night, we couldn't fix it, and it took until yesterday before a cable technician could get out here and find the problem. We finally replaced the modem today, and I'm back in business. Short update since I'm being pulled away to watch a movie, but it's good to be back. Keep workin'!

Yeah, I know it seems like things are a little slow right now, but I'm working on getting more updates from people. And also, let's just say that there will be a few cool surprises in store as you're listening to this project on its release. ;)

Also, I'm thinking of a potential site redesign, but my knowledge outside of HTML is fairly limited. I'll be looking at options soon.

UPDATE

We're quickly approaching the due date yet again, which means it's time for quick status checks.

It is imperative that I hear from these people, otherwise they may potentially be removed from the project:
Rubbler
Eric Dude
Fusion2004
Master Link
EgM
Ichitootah
Paragon
CC Ricers
Mythril Nazgul
DarkeSword
Nick Tam

If you're on this list and I haven't contacted you yet, please contact me as soon as possible with a status update (or a new WIP) of the song/s you're working on. Failure to do so may result in project removal.

Also, Lea and I have been looking at the WIPs submitted to us previously, and we have some potential cuts in mind. We're looking at making sure every song on this project is of high quality (preferably at least to OCRs standards, foregoing the 6 meg rule), and some aren't exactly hitting the mark. Removal based on quality and work ethic will take place on the second due date. Most of you are doing very well so far, however, and have nothing to worry about. ;) Over and out.

UPDATE

Tomorrow (Wedneday), I'm leaving on vacation for one week (which means I'll be back next Wednesday night). In that time, the project will be in Lea's hands, so any and all correspondence should be directed towards her. I don't know if I'll have a chance to check in, as internet access where I'll be is limited. I'll try and check in at least once, though, and if I see you giving Lea problems, there will be hell to pay. :P She also has my cell phone number/email address, so in the case of project emergencies or unanswerable questions, I'll still be able to be contacted. You're all still stuck with me until about 10:30 AM west coast time until tomorrow though, so don't break out the parades and parties just yet. ;)

WIPs should either be posted to the project forums, sent to Kureejii Lea by PM, or sent to talesproject@gmail.com, NOT to me. If you send your WIP to me while I'm gone, the list will likely not be updated and you won't receive feedback, so please make sure you send it to the correct person.

And that's it! I'll be glad to finally get away from you all for awhile! :P (No actually, I kinda hate to just leave like this. But I'll be back!)

UPDATE

Here we are once again; another due date, come and gone. Impressive work all around, folks! We're slowly but surely making progress, with most of the music taking shape and sounding very nice. In case you haven't been paying attention, we have a few new additions to the project: Sixto, who will be taking on the track The Second Act - AkumajoBelmont, who's going to be arranging Arche's theme - and analoq, who's tackling Last Battle Decision. All three of them will be providing their talents and making this the best project that we can possibly make it. Welcome aboard, gentlemen! I'll be discussing your songs and due dates with you soon.

In other news, the next WIP due date: October 5th. I'll say it again: OCTOBER FIFTH. FIVE-TH. OF OCTOBER. That's roughly 3 and a half weeks. Why so little time? Most of the songs are either finalized as far as composition, or quickly making progress to a finished composition. Three weeks should be plenty of time for most of you to get something together. Three minutes of material, to be exact (unless your song is just short by nature), or a near-finalized composition are the requirements. I've also decided that anyone who has not sent me ANY form of a WIP (those still under Planning and Post-Planning, not including the new musicians) WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PROJECT, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. We're lookin' to speed things up, folks, so get crackin'! ;)

Remember, the next WIP due date is OCTOBER 5TH. Let's see some progress!

Or, in other words: "GET TO WORK, MAGGOTS! THREE AND A HALF WEEKS TIL THE NEXT DUE DATE AND IF YOU'RE NOT REMIXING DURING EVERY MINUTE OF THOSE THREE WEEKS YOU'RE GONNA BE SCRUBBIN' THE BATHROOM WITH A TOOTHBRUSH FOR FOUR! DISMISSED!"

:P

OCTOBER FIFTH. FIVE-TH. OF OCTOBER.

What? I didn't quite hear that! The fifteenth, you say?

Anyway, good! I wanted to know the next deadline so I could pace myself. Okay, so I'll probably just slave over Sibelius until they're done, for fear of swabbing the decks of the S.S. Kyle with a toothbrush.

I'm glad to have Sixto aboard, in keeping with the metaphor. :D This guy knows the classic rock!

Alright, I don't know if I can give you a new WIP on that date because I'm pretty busy right now (have a lot of mixdown/MIDI/signal flow tests and stuff like that). For example I have to take a train tomorrow at 7 AM to go to Zürich, because it's the only time that was left when the mixing console is not in use. This doesn't mean I won't finish the songs, but this means I can't work on them right now...

Woo, progress! Christian Pacaud has pretty much finished his version of Beat The Angel. It's a pretty stark contrast from the original which should be enjoyable for all. ;) Get those WIPs to me, folks! Only 9 days remain until the next due date!

You're fine, Usa. Don't worry about it.

Well now, it seems i am at a stopping point once again. i've made the decision that it is best to find someone here for collaboration on mint's theme. i had originally planned on working with a friend of mine on it, but it seems he is rather not around, and his schedual is the exact invert of mine...so working is tough.

So, what i am looking for is a guitarist who would like to collab with me (not just playing but writing some stuff too), and who can record both accoustic and electric guitars.

If you are reading this and are interested please talk to me on AIM, asap, please.

FYI: I Also posted this in the project forums.

So far, the WIP turnout has been pretty dismal, which has me worried. Unfortunately, I can't bug everyone 24/7 like I used to, so initiative needs to be taken on the remixers end. I'm doing what I can to talk to people, but I don't have time to talk to everyone. I still have not received WIPs from those who missed the due date last time, and I've only received a couple in the last two weeks (thank you to those folks :)). I will be trying my best to send PMs or emails out to remind you guys, but I can't guarantee anything.

As for those needing extensions or whatever, that's fine. Just tell me a reason and how long you need, and we'll work from there.
