I've been really busy with anime remix 3.0, the final fantasy 7 project, Tetris Attack project, 3 projects at work, and trying to defeat the Twin Emperors with my guild in World of Warcraft =P

oh, and I've been sick the last week.

I'll get you the song in the next 2 days, it's basically done anyways, just needs a clever ending other than a continuous drum loop (default reason thingy).

Cool. Thanks for the heads-up.

Heard an audio deformation at 2:57. D'oh! I can't believe I missed that. I'd go back and fix it, but I lost my latest build of the song due to a recent HD crash. The backup I have is old compared to how much work I got done on the latest version. Ah well, live and learn.

I appreciate the constructive criticism a ton! The areas I need to improve in seem to be things I repeat with each new song I create, so I'll be applying what I know now to my next remix.

Anyways, I'm glad you guys are digging the song. rock on. \m/

Alright, so TheDeath finished up Hydropolis. One step closer!

Speaking of steps, there haven't been very many lately, and I'm a bit worried. I sent out an email over a week ago to all unfinished remixers (except SnappleMan, who I'd been talking to personally on AIM), and nobody except TheDeath had any contact in any way with me about it. There are some of you that are extremely close to done, but have been stuck in the "near-done" status for quite some time. On the other hand, there are a few that haven't even started yet. So, I NEED to hear from you guys regarding the status of your songs, or I'm going to start replacing remixers, or possibly just removing some songs altogether. Even though we're waiting for Project Chaos to release first, this isn't a time to slack off: We need these songs as soon as possible so everything for the website and mastering can be finalized and we can be ready for release when the time comes. So please contact me if you're not done with your song, and let me know what's up!

Y halo thar, klm here. Ok, the reason for why I still haven't submitted a WIP is because I have like 20 different attempts to do something rock / metal based.. a slow Scorpions-style ballad.. a sort of mid paced hero metal gallop riff thing.. a kind of techno metal thing.. and a dozen other permutations.. but all my attempts end up sounding like crap. I've become convinced it's impossible to make a good guitar rock style remix of that, which is what I originally set out to do.. or, at least, it's impossible for me, without really adapting it into something with very little semblance to the original.

Anyway, I've now become convinced that TRANCE is the way to go here.. but, with no real knowledge of the project as a whole, I have no idea how that would fit. And I have a gut feeling it wouldn't. I can make a pretty kick ass trance mix out of it, of that I'm sure, but if that's not what you're looking for, I understand.

Dhsu

There aren't any genre restrictions for the project as far as I know. I think we could definitely use some good trance.

Trance with guitar could be awesome. Arpeggios with a 3/16 delay and leads with a strong phaser and wide stereo image always do the trick.

Indeed. Whatever you feel like doing, go for it.

More trance (I like PriZm's trance with guitar idea: That'd be a new direction to go with the project for sure) is always welcome, so if that's how you feel like going with the track, then of course go with it. ;) Glad to hear an update from you, man.

yes, and for that I apologize. I thought my ears had already picked out everything before I released the track, but I somehow missed it. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, so that sort of thing eats at me.

Bumped for at least moderate justice. Maybe as high as great.

Kyle, does the logjam of OCR1500 and Project Chaos' release mean this potentially could get pushed until around Christmas time? Obviously I have no control of this whatsoever, just wondering.

EDIT: Apparently I was about an hour premature about the answer to part of this question (see: OCR1500).

KyleJCrb
08-29-2006, 08:11 AM
Nope, I'd say with the release of 1500, we're looking at probably early October. Notice I said "probably": We'll have to see how far off Project Chaos is, as well as getting the rest of this project done within that time before I can make any truly solid estimates.

In other words, get ready remixers: We may be at crunch time sooner than you think. :P

Also, congratulations to djpretzel and OCR for making it to yet another milestone. Thanks for allowing us to play a small part in it, Dave. :)

Yeah, not too much activity lately. I'm not sure just what exactly is going on with Project Chaos, what with the locking of the thread, but we're definitely going to be in on this well into October, I'd say. If the only (main) reason is that the mix doesn't have enough "copied" melody, there's nothing to worry about.

And I think we're all wondering what's up with Project Chaos, but I'm sure it'll be fine in the end. The least thing the Tales Project deserves is less attention becuase it's released at the same time as Project Chaos

KyleJCrb

I didn't really have much of a problem hearing the source in Joker's mix: A few of the other remixes on this project have even less of the remixed track in them than his did.

News to report (and I'm double posting because I CAN!):

TheDeath's remix of Hydropolis has recently been accepted by the judges to be posted on OCR. Congratulations, ElDeatho!

The SoS website (http://www.kylejcrb.com/talesproject) is now back online, and will feature preview songs, with a new track released every week or so for awhile. Enjoy the previews!

Project Progress:

As for the rest of the project, progress is a bit slow, and I have been quite lax in keeping contact with a good number of you guys who aren't done. Current status of Project Chaos is unknown, but I'd really like to start getting the ball rolling again a bit so we can at least be almost done with the music by the time PC rolls out (watch it come out tomorrow).

As far as recent progress, Usa has recently finished his remix of Desert Flower, and work rolls on for the Last Battle collaboration, which may possibly be one of the largest collaboration of musicians to date in a video game remix. Master Hatchet has recently come aboard and will be providing some hawt guitar licks (along with PriZm, hopefully), while zircon will be wrapping the whole thing up in a nice, tidy package of listening goodness with his mixdown and mastering skills. The addition of those two brings the total number of remixers involved up to 8, ON ONE TRACK! May seem like a lot, and you might think it'll make for some damn schizophrenic music, but it's actually coming along very nicely and I'm happy with the progress so far.

As for the songs that aren't done yet, expect some PM/IMage from me here pretty soon. Over and Oot!

The new preview is pretty tight.

There is one other thing that's going to help with the wait: Tales of the Abyss. October 10th can't come soon enough.

On an unrelated (and probably already covered somewhere else in this massive thread) note, has anybody else heard the 10th anniversary battle track from Abyss' OST? It's called Everlasting Fight, and is pretty solid if unspectacular. Both Tales of Destiny and Tales of Phantasia's battle themes were redone, along with one I didn't recognize. man we remixers are such a bunch of lazy farts. This project has taken longer than it should. But hey what the hell, it'll be the best project since KiC, so hell it'll be worth the wait.

Admittedly, it's mostly my fault. I've been quite busy lately, plus I have a family member in the hospital who's been there for over a month and isn't doing very well, so my time and drive to work on this project is fairly limited. Lea is also busy, and her tasks are somewhat seperated from mine anyway, so it's not really her job to do what I've been doing. :P

I'm actually not too surprised that this project has taken this long, considering the full scope of what we're going for (the 40 track count, namely), so even though I would've liked it to have been done sooner, we're not as far behind as you might think. There's only a few tracks left! Hopefully I can find the time to get on the remaining remixers here soon, and maybe Project Chaos will get released sometime before New Years. :P

On the plus side, if the biggest problem you end up having is that PC is blocking SoS's release, you're in pretty good shape. At least at that point all the tracks will be done and rarin' to go.

I wasn't talking about what it got in return, Kyle. :P All I was saying was that their home bases were particularly different. Bound Together had a different base as it was already, having centered itself around VGMix/OneUpStudios for most of the time, so why do we have people who think of comparing an almost complete OCR project to something that's pretty much entirely different?

Nonetheless, I might as well shut up

Bound Together as a bunch of remixes is generally excellent. Bound Together as a project is flabby, sluggish and disjointed.

Personally, I think the variety of tracks was what really made me like BT so much. I get bored listening to the same type of thing for too long, which is why even Hedgehog Heaven couldn't hold my ear for too long. BT has a great mix of offbeat, techno, and rock that keeps me from getting too bored with it.

But, as most things, it's all a matter of opinion - and this one's coming from someone who found Chrono Symphonic to be one of the biggest wastes of time and bandwith since myspace.

Would this be doing it on your own? I don't mind starting from scratch if it's for a collab. I'd still like to work on this track if possible.

Joker: I'll wait and see what happens but we can always start from scratch or use just some parts from midi10. I think starting again would be best. We worked really quickly together anyway so it should be okay. Hopefully sixto is up for a collaboration with us as that could solve the issue of what's happening here.

Don't worry, it's a very important track and it will be remixed. ;)

Joker, andy: I'd prefer if you'd start from scratch. The collab track is its own seperate entity. I'll sign you two up and if Sixto wants to collab, I'll add him too. Unless Sixto wants to work by himself, then...I dunno. A Three-Way Steel Cage Match?

KyleJCrb
11-03-2006, 09:27 PM
Okay, a FOUR-WAY steel cage match? We already tried one multi-person collab with the song: I don't think another would be sufficent. How about each remixer (or collab duo, as the case is with Joker and Andy) does their own version of the song, then we'll decide which one to go with for the final project, and release the rest as special bonus tracks, or something along those lines.

Just remember, if you already have unfinished songs for the project, you should focus on getting those complete before working on LBD (here's lookin' at you, klm :P).

Precisely. Not to mention that there are two slightly different versions in the game anyway. I'm 90% sure that's the way we're going to do it, unless there are any objections. Remixers, check the thread in Private Discussion on the forums.

Well I've been working on something that'd definately need a guitarist as it's currently the focus. This new one has a better direction for the track. Your new MIDI would work really well with what I've started as either a section or the ending but I definately think it's better to jump straight into the main part of the song for this collab, even if it means adding stuff to the start so that it doesn't actually end up at the beginning.

Looking at what happened last time we should keep the track from going over 4 minutes in length. If you consider that between us we have now have about 2 mins 40 seconds of material then we should work on the remaining time and stripping down / improving existing sections.

Anyway I'll send that MIDI your way. The stuff we have could work really well together. Also let me know of any improvements you think I should make to the track I send your way.

So I figured that, with the S3K project ready for release, I should probably get cracking on my mix. :) I've progressed quite a bit, overall I think it's about 80% done now. Basically I just need to copy paste some bits from the beginning to repeat at the end and do an outro, and possibly rework small bits here and there for further polish. Or, well, that's what I think.. I hope you guys don't think what I have done is unusably bad. :D

KyleJCrb

And here it is, the first

UPDATE

in awhile. :P

First, let me get the disappointing news out there: the project won't be released until 2007. I'm sure it was fairly obvious at this point, but I figured it'd be good to make it official.

With Project Chaos finally primed and ready to rock faces off this weekend, I think now is a good time to get back to our regularly scheduled program. We're close to complete, but there hasn't been much progress: That should (and will) change starting now.

Final songs are due DECEMBER 31ST, 2006. Unlike the July date that was pushed back and resulted in our extended low activity period, this date will firmly stand. If your song is not in to me before 2007, it will not be included on the project. I think this is a rather generous date considering how long some of you remixers have had to work on your songs, but since the issues with Last Battle, I wanted to ensure that the groups that started remixing that song had enough time to do what they needed. I will be checking regularly with those who are not done and keeping in touch for status reports. I'm really expecting a lot of work to be put in as we head towards completion, so don't let me down here!

As for release, right now we're looking at late January. I can't set a solid date because I'm not sure how long PriZm will take with mastering, and because there are still some details that will need finalizing. It's tentative though, so if we're pushed back, then that's what happens.

That should about cover it. Now, WORK! :P

You have feedback, kAndyJoker09 (creative!).

Also, I have come up with a new dealio: Those who don't respond by December 1st to the email/PM I sent out will be booted them from the project and a last-minute replacement will be culled. Don't got time to sit and wait for people to respond to these things weeks after they get them. This should only apply to about 4 of you, and 2 have already replied, so I don't suspect we'll have a major problem. Chances are if you didn't get an email or a PM, you're clear. Feel free to contact me and make sure though.

Btw, is the track list locked? Ok, maybe I'm about a year late asking this. I'm just thinking in case someone decides to submit a finished mix of something that's not being worked on before the deadline, and it's of high enough quality to be usable, could it be included in the project? I'm not saying I will.. but I'm not saying I won't. ;) I have some ideas for a remix of the third overworld theme from ToP, but I've sort of got my hands full as it is..

KyleJCrb
11-28-2006, 01:01 PM
Technically it is, although with Last Battle split into two tracks on the Symphonia side, an extra track from Phantasia to even things out couldn't hurt. The third overworld theme was actually going to be included originally anyway, so yeah, I think we could use it. :)

Well, Rexy coughed up a remix of Forest of the Treant (if Reuben shows up again and sends a finished song, we'll put it on the Symphonia side), and EgM is nearing completion of his remix of the Symphonia title screen, so we're finally moving along. Still waiting on hearing from SnappleMan and Mythril (and, as already mentioned, Reuben Kee) about their tracks. Chop chop, boys! Only a couple weeks remaining.

KyleJCrb
12-27-2006, 12:16 AM
Well, we're closing in on the due date, and things are coming along. Regretfully, a few songs will not be finished by the time the due date rolls around; I've already talked to the remixers and we've reached an agreement. SO, that means we probably won't see release in January. I personally am probably just as disappointed as anyone else anticipating this project, but there are certain guidelines to how Lea and I originally envisioned SoS, and I would like to see those guidelines met before we release it. Believe me: If I felt this was ready for release right now, it'd be out: But it's not.

I'm also disappointed in some arrangers that feel unnecessary short-term obligations take precedence over a project that's been in development for over a year and a half. I understand that there is no reimbursement and not much satisfaction that comes from doing this sort of thing (depending on the type of person you are), but I'm depending on people to help do their part for this project that they have dedicated themselves to, and to find out that their obligations here get pushed out of the way to do other things instead, especially after promising that SoS would take precedence, reflects badly on themselves as well as on the project as a whole. It causes unneeded delays, unkempt promises, and huge disappointment. Please, PLEASE do not make me jump through hoops just to get you to do what you agreed to do. It's not fun.

Oover and oot.

This thing has been a long time in the making, but it's finally almost DONE!!!

oh, and welcome to the forums, Ageha.

Uh, January 15th song due date doesn't mean the project's coming out on January 15th: There's probably at least another month of other things that need to get finished before we can release.

However, I may decide to release a song preview, if you're all good and don't complain about the wait. :P

I can't update the topic, and I'm a bit flu-ridden right now, so I'll just make the announcement here: I'm extending the due date to January 15th. There has been a lot of progress on the remaining songs in the last week or two and I hate to throw out all that work now. That should give people time to work through the rest of their Winter vacations. That's all.

Then let me offer some final cheer to the remixers still working: come on, guys (and possibly girls), you can do it! We're all counting on you, make this project kick the ass out of all the rest of them!

With Mythril Nazgul strangely absent for the interweb as of late, I have decided to move his song back to Complete status. If he shows up within the next couple weeks with a rework, I'll take it, but I'm not going to wait around. I've also requested that the thread subject be changed, so that won't look so weird anymore.

This is the last week before the pushed-back date, so I'm expecting a lot of work to be done. I know that some songs are very close, so let's get them wrapped up, please?

Blame it on the new forum system. We found an error - while we project managers were fine to edit the topic title as we pleased, this new system won't allow us to edit this at all. What a downer.

Anyway, since Darkey's left us, can I get another mod to take the due date out of the thread title? Thanks.

EDIT: I guess Feedback and History threads got stickied or something. Huh.

EDIT 2: Oops! Looks like my thread sorting options were changed. Carry on as normal, nothing important or worthwhile in this post (except what I've bolded)!

DOUBLE KILL

Some of you may remember back when I released a small teaser featuring a pretty good number of the guitar-based songs on the project (and there's a lot, because we're more like the Summoning of Rock Spirits over here :P) called "HAWT LIXX", which I made just for fun. As an apology for the numerous delays, and to keep the public interested, I whipped up another preview in the same vein, featuring new songs that have been completed since the release of the last teaser, as well as reworkings of older stuff you might've heard before. This is almost all of the songs that feature omfg geetar wankery: There'll be a couple more not featured here, though!

May I present: The SoS SHREDDIN' RIFFZ Preview! (http://www.kylejcrb.com/talesproject/SoSSHREDDINRIFFZPreview.mp3)

Also, if you missed the first one: SoS HAWT LIXX Preview (http://www.kylejcrb.com/talesproject/SoSHAWTLIXXPreview.mp3)

Note: The lack of crossfading on these intentional. :P

I will work the post-production. Now although I won't work the tracks individually, the difference will still be noticeable (like, my guitar tone will still suck compared to Sixto's) but, hopefully, not ridiculous.

Well when its done, its done. Though after taking this much time, it's too bad since Tales of the Abyss has been out and it has some good music. Or at least the music that could be remixed to sound better. Like Meaning of Birth for example. Some guy did a piano version of it and it sounds great! Anyway, I await patiently untill it comes.

I have no clue how that happened: I don't remember preemptively adding your name to the list or anything, (why would I bother to do that, anyway? Haha) so I can only assume the forum did it automatically. Why? Who knows? It's fixed now though, and you should have access to the private areas.

Progress has slowed to a crawl. Of course, this is pretty much my fault, since I have been ridiculously busy with 10-hour workdays as of late (if 8 hours wasn't bad enough, 10 is suicide) and don't have the time I wish I did to keep up with the remaining remixers. I'm really curious about klm09: He seems to have vanished. If anyone talks to him, let him know we need an update.

I wish I could say we are close to done, and while the status may make it look like we are, we're really not. Sit tight, folks.

Hey, I've been searching around for a version of the song "Fighting of the Spirit" that I first heard used in the following SSBM combo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-v-8po6_pk So I ended on this site and discovered a whole world of video game music remixed, very cool. But, I still haven't found THIS version of the song! A link or upload of this song would make my day. Thanks in advance for anybody's assistance.

edit: I figured this would be relevant to this thread since you guys are putting together another version of the song I'm looking for in this project. I can make a new thread somewhere else if need be.

KyleJCrb
02-17-2007, 01:43 AM
That would be Rubbler's version of FotS, called "Spirit in Metal" (Rubbler was actually slated to be on the project for awhile, but had to back down for personal reasons). It was on VGMix, but since that's down, I'll host and link to it for you, here (http://kylejcrb.com/miscstuff/Rubbler_-_Spirit_in_Metal(Tales_of_Symphonia,_Tales_of_Phan tasia).mp3).

If you think that's good though, wait until you hear SnappleMan's version for this project. ;)

A few weeks ago I screwed up and accidentally deleted some of the .wavs for the project (I still have all of the songs in MP3 form), so I just sent out a couple PMs to people about it. I also sent out an email to the last few remaining remixers with unfinished songs: If you received that one, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND BEAUTIFUL respond to it! I don't care if you tell me that you completely forgot about the project, hate me, and won't work on it anymore; at least please let me know this so we can get someone else to work on the song, at the very least.

Each remixer has their own equipment (whether it be a full recording studio with live instruments or a computer, a $100 program, some computerized sound samples, and a great knowledge of how to use them all) that they utilize to create their remixes.
