Downloading now...

EDIT: I've listened to at least some of every track. I like the progression of the complilation, with the less numbered tracks being more cheerful and up-beat, progressing into more orchestral pieces by the end. I'm just grabbing initial feelings right now, I'll post a full review later.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the point of these .flac files I'm getting from the torrent? Each of these are several MB larger than the actual song file, and are making my download about four times longer than it should be.

FLAC files are lossess audio encodes. CD quality with no artifacts like MP3. There's a readme file included.

For more information about FLAC, go here: http://flac.sourceforge.net/

You don't have to download the FLAC files if you don't want to; if you're using a BitTorrent client that supports selecting specific files, just deselect the FLACs. :P

I'm not all too familiar with .flac either, but I'm pretty sure the reason these files are here is because they sound better burned to a CD then .mp3 files.

Also, sorry I didn't have enough space to host the final track in my mirror (mirror #10), but I'm still glad to be helping out.

I was wondering, were there never any plans for actual cd art? It'd be cool if there was something I could print on a sticker and stick on the actual cd.

I'm currently on track seven, and so far, it's been pretty interesting.

This is probably the first project I've actually given a try, probably because of it's length. All the other ones seem to fall victim to having too many songs, providing for a sloppy overall presentation, and some songs getting left out. Also, the styles between tracks don't differ so much that when you go from one track to the next, nothing seems too out of place, one reason why I hated the Sonic 2 project. I'm also very, very happy that every track is not just a dull trance beat with the original tune playing over it. I utterly despise the genre, and the only track I've heard that sounds like it is track 7, and I don't find this one boring or bad at all. I actually quite like it.

Overall, this one seems to flow better than the other projects that I've heard. Seems more like an actual 'album' rather than just a collection of songs, which is what tends to appeal to me most of the time.

Some immediate comments while listening to each track:

Drops of Dreamriver - A nice, fairly simple opener to the album. It felt like it dragged on a bit by the end, but overall pretty good and does its job of setting up things to come.

Free Breezin' - Some uber slick guitar work from Darangen. I'm loving this one a lot, I think it's some of the best work I've ever heard from him. Lots of energy, wondefully fills the pivotal track 2 spot.

Cosmic Transformations - The project's first single, so to say. Love that intro, builds up the mood perfectly. Some wonderful effects every here and there, technically quite impressive. A strong contribution.

Creampuff Starship - It's got that analoq groove written all over it in kind of a mellowed down style. Oooh, 3:22 is where that signature reverb guitar comes in, and it's as sexy as ever. Great stuff.

Kirby...tacular - Rellik's technical prowess is at full display here. Those synth effects are the best I can recall hearing from him. A short but very sweet track.

The Ballad of Sir Kibbles - Wow, this one really impressed me. Guitar intertwines with electronica and piano, all done very seamlessly. Very heartfelt, good structure to the song, may be my favorite track thus far.

Starbound - Was really looking forward to this one. chthonic has been on an absolute roll lately, everything he's put out in recent days has been gold. This one is no different. Crazy effects, varied instrumentation, and solid composition were all expected and he delivers yet again.

Generalized Vegetal - This one has an interesting sort of march beat to it, a breath of fresh air after all the trance beats before it. Good stuff.

Aviator Soul - Darkesword orchestral! Stirring stuff, and good juxtaposition with...

Final Flight - Hot electronic work from Darkesword, who shows off his versatility. It gives us the sense that this album is winding down with its fast pace, like the sense of urgency in the final battle. Nice choice on using a fade-out, it gives me the image of Kirby flying off into the night...

Dreams of Valor - Yet another GL and Bladiator collaboration success. I'm not familiar with Hemophiliac, so I can't even begin to guess what his contributions were to this song. A majestic and great closer to this wonderful album.

Overall, a very enjoyable listen. No track in particular stood out above the others, as every track was good stuff. Kudos to Darkesword for a great theme, congrats to you all for a very succesful endeavor.

Aw man, I'm tempted to waste a disc in burning it off this instance. New Darangen at VGMix, new Adhesive Boy stuff over here, new project page too (which doesn't work at my end but the old one still does)... oh man. I'm so excited just to hear into your stuff. :D

However it won't be until tomorrow morning my time that I'd eventually do so (yes, one computer still has a broken sound card and the other still has no net connection) but I'll be able to share my feedback with you all. And no, I won't go as in-depth as I do in the PRC; that would be ridiculous. :P

Congratulations on the project Ansari-sama, and here's to one of the most unique projects granted to OCR thus far!

That's it. After I finish off Dragon Warrior 3, which shouldn't be too long now, I will get started with actually playing Kirby's Adventure. Ph33r meh.

I didn't realize that I was downloading 2 versions of each file until I was about halfway done... and then I promptly stopped downloading the remaining MP3 downloads. But I did download all of a few MP3s...

Which is why I noticed this. The tags for the FLAC versions are messed up. It has Desktop as the artist for every song. This isn't intentional I don't think. ;) But regardless, I'm going to be making vorbis files out of the FLAC anyways, and just deleting the FLAC. I'll correct the tags by hand in that process.

But I just thought I would give you a heads up. I'm sure that people other than me share distaste for MP3. And it would be nice if the FLAC files were properly tagged.

That was an error on my part, actually; I thought I had them tagged with the proper artist names. Apparently it didn't save. :(

Dayum Rellik, your skills are off the chain now. 8)

Well, I was actually planning to post in this thread with an apology for my less-than-stellar addition to the project (you can't win em all, you know?) but I guess I won't now 8)! In all honesty I'm a little bit embarassed when I listen to my Kirby Project mix... it was a fairly long time ago, and it wasn't even up to par with my skills at THAT point in time. It's not I didn't put effort into it... it just... came out deformed. It's like Noah in the Grapes of Wrath... living in its own little world, strange, uncannily staring back at you with calm eyes... and the guilt for being responsible for the deformation of what should have been perfectly normal...

And now I must take some time to commend my fellow Kirby Project-ers. Of course DarkeSword deserves massive praise for being the leader of the entire project, as well as for his mixes - and to the mixers on the project, I think I've commented on most of them at some point or another, so I'll just reiterate that I really enjoyed most of them :D great work!

I'd just like to point out the incredible amount of stylistic variety on this album. Guitar, synth, orchestra... it's pretty much all there. Kudos to everyone that was involved in making this a success, and although I am a bit dissapointed that sir nuts and beatdrop were unable to join the fun, Shariq pulled through and showed versatility when tracks needed to be done.

Congrats on the release, everyone... and to the listeners: enjoy!

The pink one rides the star once again!!
To be honest, I've been a fan of Kirby since his early beginnings. Sure it may be cute & cartoony, but some games in the series were quite a treat. From the usual rush, to side-scrolling, and even teaming up with critters. It made the series very unique, might even say its an action rpg of sorts.

But nothing can stop the lil guy.
What to say about this OCR project? Just one word. Sweet. Sweet like cotton candy, the kind you enjoy during a fair. It just melts in your mouth, and you enjoy it till its done. Its like the ultimate sugar high, but with positive effects. And this collaboration is something to also chill out with.
Awesome job on this Kirby project!

No no... I'm right - I'll explain why. The point of this project was to have a different theme for every "title" kirby can achieve in the game, ie. "Water drop", "Great Ace", etc.

Well, when you get a 100% pass on the game you achieve the title "Hero of Lore" - however, that's not the final title. Once you achieve that title you unlock a new "extra mode" where kirby has half the health and there's no auto save, so you have to complete it in one sitting. If you successfully beat the extra mode you get a "100% PERFECT" rating, and Kirby's title becomes "Super Star" - the complete final title once you've beaten absolutely everything in the game.

I remember I mentioned this whilst the project was being worked on, too. DS said he planned to have a track for it, but I guess that never happened.

Ohwell.

Hehehe, nice analogy... I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend or annoy anyone, I'm just curious as to why that title was kept out ^^;

Maybe it's because I'm the only person who was crazy enough to play the game that much and unlock it...

Really nice work, I hope I can one day join such a major project, I know I could learn alot from other mixers. and I just wanted to point something (or rather someone) out.
Since chthonic made his Super Mario Mix (Fleetin' Extacsy)(can't even spell it right :? , I think)..

He's one of my fav. mixers, the way he brings his songs are really funky, it demands such attention from you. Alot of variation. Love it all man. Again with his mix on this album, all the elements are there.
Just do what you do best chthonic

Ofcourse the other remixers did a tremendous job. Its really nice to see such a big project as this one being forged from dust, to real pieces of musical art.

Congratulations guys,
And keep dem mixes comin'!!

Whew, after finally clearing Dragon Warrior 3 (huzzah), I managed to settle down and listen to the project this evening. Outside from Rainbow Resort and the ending theme I barely know much of the score, so for that I can't really comment on the tracks' links to the original material at this moment in time. Nonetheless, congrats on finishing up with the project, and it's good to see this creampuff starship making its way onto the OCR site.

So now, I leave you with my light commentary.

Drops of Dreamriver
KirbyMixer's work at VGMix are of a simplistic attire and with a lot of focus on empty percussion, and for an opening his style is just perfect to establish the moods we have here. ^_^ I actually dig a lot of the simplistic tendancies taken to this, doing well to add to a very reflective attire and a lot of reflective atmosphere as time managed to settle in. Some of these areas have worked especially some of the quieter ones, although in some of the brasher ones I feel there could have been some lower-end sounds to better fit the dynamic spectrum. I think what I think turned the track well enough was the darker moods that came in at around 3:40; I think they have done well to add to a more chaotic attire to better reflect the opening portion of the game's stated storyline. I was hoping for the triangle to have a touch more reverb though as well as some further humanisation upon some of the scaled xylophone movements near the 5 minute mark, but there's nothing wrong with what's established already. Very sweet opener.

Free Breezin'
Oh man, I absolutely love Darangen's work and this mix is of no exception. I understand the age that has passed by since much of his more stellar work but this is still just as cheery and upbeat to fit the dynamic "wind" effect that we're looking for. The overall performance executed on this track is excellent, and that has been shown with a lot of attention taken towards a lot of energy shown throughout to be able to fit much of his stylistic choices here. The intro was a bit straight-in, but it's still cool enough to emphasise its more dynamic point that has been showcased throughout the track. I was hoping for some way to show some further space upon the backing guitars to allow the lead to be able to shine through and some further tendancies taken through to drum levelling, but even with those lightly ageing aspects this is still pretty firm to take in. Welcome aboard to the project clan, Boyd-sama. ^_~

Cosmic Transformations
The track's first "single", as someone stated further back. The SFX based intro and some of the drum techniques remind me of some of the techniques used in the opening for Braving the Flames for some reason, but have still worked well to create a well rounded establishment to be able to fit the feel for the travelling aspects of the mix. Much of the synth-based samples used in this were used affectively and I dig a lot of the textures used in this to create a very upbeat and dynamic establishment here. I was hoping for some additional processing to the flute sample although much of the volume establishments were very affective; I also appreciate some of the ambience granted towards some of the other elements like the pitched percussion (glockenspiel) used in some of the middle areas. The moods also meander from one stage to another; not sure if everyone may dig it but I do and it has managed to portray its point just perfectly. Good stuff from Adhesive Boy back there ;)

Creampuff Starship
I often dig a lot of analoq's work for his groove-based establishments, and it's here he's gone for a mix which have been shown with a lot emphasis to a chillout-based atmosphere a la sonik special. The use of synth dependance and having that crossed over with some funky pitched percussion has been able to reflect upon the idea of a star hovering in space, so that can be shown to be of a very peaceful choice to the overall atmospheric choice the mix was looking for. His production work is often solid, so there's barely much I can be able to find wrong in the case of the mix here especially with much of the more climatic choices near the end. If anything a touch more reverb upon some of the pitched percussion won't hurt, but outside from there this isn't too bad.

Kirby...tacular
In my honest opinion this is the best track title I've seen established. ;) It's here that I appreciate the moods to gradually swift to a darker attire given the key and some of the tenser groove-based aspects that have managed to come around, especially with what has been established. I can't tell if this has matched Rellik's standards or not given that I haven't heard any new material from him since his FF6 mix Dancing Mad, but much of his stylistic approaches are still there to approach the general feel that that aspect of the track was looking for. However, the main downside I see with this is that it's too short! I know, it's a bit of a hindrance on something enjoyable to listen to, but it would have been nice to hear it broaden up on that field a little bit. That said, this is still some interesting work from Rellik here.

The Ballad of Sir Kibbles
So what's the difference between the moods for Swift Hunter and Dream Hunter anyway? Still, it's interesting to see that there's an incorporation of Rainbow Resort on board here from Suzamebachi. I appreciate a lot of the broadening out from the theme here as well as a lot of stylistic solo attributes to be able to reflect the spiritual essences as shown on that portion of the field. Crossing over live instrumentation with synths has been able to fit much of the ballad-like tendancies taken to the title as well as reflecting on some of the more dreamy aspects on some of the mix as shown on the strings. Speaking of which, some of the texturing seemed to feel a little bit on the mechanical side so it might have helped to bring up the release time somewhat to make them feel smoother into leading into one part to another. But that's still alright for what it was, and I appreciate much of what came around.

Starbound
Heck yes, chthonic is one of those people that practically everyone I know has fallen in love with in terms of musical emphasis. While the thoughts taken towards stylistic choices and overall processing may feel a bit down-graded in comparison to some of his OCR works, the feel is still pretty interesting and moody enough to fit the warrior-like aspects of the theme. I actually started smiling at the referencing to the Green Greens theme from Kirby's Dream Land, so that has done well to link closer to various other aspects of the mix. I was hoping for a wider range of dynamics established on the drums to match with their rather stellar and amazing arrangement to fit with the other instruments, but this is still pretty cool stuff.

Generalised Vegetal
Oh man, I never thought I'd see Trenthian do something as emotive as this especially after seeing works like Sector 7 Hath Wrought The Angel. The more dynamic orchestration and synth blending has been able to add to the reflective atmosphere as shown for the idea of a general, as were the marching drums that soon managed to creep in and helping to provide a gradually more dynamic atmosphere, especially by 1:47. In terms of feel this has been able to captivate one of those near-perfect feels that have done well to round off the feel. I was hoping for some broader drum arrangement here as well as some further subtleties taken to the ending, but this is still pretty good stuff taken on that heel. I dig that.

Aviator Soul
And it's about time we got hear some material from Darkesword himself. :) I had a strange thought that Great Ace would be one of the harder ones to cover especially since it's difficult for people to figure out the right feel through those two words alone, but the overall climatic feel that was established here has still been able to work well enough to match his intensions. Having attempted to write orchestration myself I understand how hard it is to do something like this, so it's here that I have thought that the feel was a little bit on the mellow side in terms of developing dynamics, but I still feel that a lot of this has been able to develop as the link into the next of his own tracks. I could also picture GrayLightning saying something like "more reverb on the strings", but what we have here is pretty solid material in spite of that.

Final Flight
Now this is what I better know Darkesword for - electronica. The overall darker moods have done well to fit much of the climatic point-of-no-return tendancies taken to it, as showcased by the title, and much of the feel taken towards the overall "finalities" taken to it have been able to fit much of the atmosphere around it. The piano solo in the middle was also cool enough to lightly add a "breather" aspect to better fit the setting, and much of the synths chosen that have gone around it have been able to link towards much of his more stylistic approaches here. There's one thing that's still shown to be a light quirk to me here and that's the quietness of the drums. I was hoping for them to be a bit louder to match the energy as shown by the rest of the instrumentation, but this is still very good stuff witnessed here.

Dreams of Valor
I remember this from PRC 2-9, and it's good to see Bladiator, Hemophiliac and GrayLighning working hard on the same track, so that has left me to be familiarised with this way in advance. The overall mood has been able to add to the hero-like nature, and the lighter tendancies have also worked well to add to the "happy ending" feel that the track was looking for. I feel that as soon as the track reaches its halfway mark - more specifically around 1:50 - that the emotive grab really manages to hit the audience that way, and I appreciate a lot of what managed to come through on there. In terms of feel and emotion, this mix is almost perfect on that angle. If anything I have a few qualms upon some of the brass programming; I was hoping for the attack to be a bit stronger, but other than that this is a great and peaceful way to be able to round off the project. Kudos to all three of you.

---

Overall I really enjoyed the project. I personally could have said that I'd enjoy it a lot more if I actually played the game (which I will eventually do), but this is still pretty firm stuff as established here. Having understood how long it took for the project to get created I can understand that some of the arrangers have done some better material in their time, but they have still been able to work out in creating a refreshing and very unique structure to aid in making a solid addition towards the OCR project collection. Shariq has been able to establish a good range of arrangers to help create a short but sweet album that has done well to serve its purpose and put itself forward just as much as the other two judge oriented projects on the site (Relics of the Chozo, Kong in Concert), so that can be saying a fair amount.

Bottom line: Waiting patiently and with high anticipation certainly pays off. Well done :D

Why not just tell them it's a halo remix cd? They would never know the difference.

I always thought that the Superstar theme was the same as the Hero of Lore theme. I have to dig up the old Kirby cart to see.

Getting confusing now...

The titles never had themes originally. They were just titles that appeared on the start-up screen, which described kirby's progress through the game. The idea of this project was to give a different theme to each title ^^

You have some top-notch production value and an album that is cohesive in tone and style, so major props to you there. The arrangements themselves, however, felt a bit uninspired. "Tinkley" comes to mind as the best way to describe the concepts behind most of them, which, I might add, are sometimes so derivitive of their source material that they would not pass the OCR guidelines laid out by the judges who made them so, roffle roffle.

Rexy

But they're meant to be tinkly. It's Kirby! :D

And I understand that you like your mixes to pass the OCR panel. You also need to see that the people who worked together just wanted to put across a great project for people to listen to, nothing more and nothing less.

Nice work, I can't say I love it, but some of the songs were pretty cool.

Adhesive Boy: Gotta love atonal but cohesive stuff.
Analoq: We want the funk, give up the funk.
Chtonic: Madness!
Trenthian: I wish orchestral were always this funk.
Darkie(aviator soul): Though this kind of orchestral is always welcome.
Darkie(Final Flight):ZOMG BOOM SHICK! is this top gear or what?

Anyways, great work shariq, you could come up with a pretty good and organized project in a decent time frame. Too bad I couldn't help you this time with a song but I think you did a very good job with the song I was going to remix anyways ^_^. Hope to see you managing more projects in the future Mr Ansari!

Wow. I've been listening to these tracks off and on for the past few days, and I love 'em. My hat's off to everyone who contributed to the project, especially darkesword for organizing the project and for his great write-up on the game itself. I haven't played KA in over a decade, so this was a near-fatal attack of nostalgic glee.

I gotta link these to my sister... Kirby's Adventure was one of the two console games she ever loved. Thanks again, and I can't wait to see the contributors' next mixes. :)

I love every single one of these! My favorite is Free Breezin'. Love the guitar in that one. Anyways I have always loved Kirby music and made fun of for the fact that I like it. Infact, I like most VG music I hear. People don't realize that many of the lil' melodies played on their favorite game is a lot harder to play than some of their favorite songs. I went on a lil rant there, sorry, but how can I not rant? These are so GOOD!

Oooh, I really like what you guys have done with these tracks! I first heard these songs on the GBA Nightmare In Dreamland game. While some of the tracks in the original game can be irritating/boring, your remixes have made them all wonderful songs! It's even nicer to hear catchy songs like Starbound~Theme of Dream Warrior get a well deserved mix! There are a lot of extra little things in the tracks like the choir in Darkesword's Aviator Soul mix that really make the tracks stand out!

By the way; is the Sonic 2 site down or is it just me? I never got all of them :(

Ha ha! This is great! Man, this almost takes Kong in Concert down for the rank of my favorite site project. The quality of the "Rise" certainly rivals that of the "Concert," no question.Sweet work, fellows.

I was staring at the completed cover art while listening to parts of this. It's fascinating: the cover--the same that I spent weeks poring over--looks different to me now. As I was making it, it stood alone. I knew it was for the project and tailored it with that in mind, but I didn't know what the main of the project was. As a part of the project, the art has been given a new depth by the music it advertises.

Kirbymixer, your song is complex and well thought-out. Good start to the project.

Darangen, great interpretation of the "Son of Wind" idea and pleasant sounds. I can feel the thought you put into composition. It reminds me of "Blue Water, Blue Sky" by Daisuke Ishiwatari.

Adhesive_Boy, I love your music. Thank you for bringing the xylophone back from "Cry of the Chasmal Critter Chain," it's just wonderful. An awesome song.

analoq, your synthesis is fabulous. Also, you kept repeating the same phrase, but it didn't sound repetetive. Nice.

Rellik, why DID you fade out right when you hit the sickass whippin' cool part? :P Ah, no matter, your song is still pretty cool.

Suzumebachi, oh SHIT! HAHAHAHA oh I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this one. Ohhhhhhhhhh! Badass. :D

chthonic, if a square wave could launch away heroically into the night sky, it would sound exactly like "Starbound."

Trenthian, yours is the only remix whose original song I have heard. If the other mixes' deviance from their originals are as interesting as yours', we have a very good project here indeed.

DarkeSword, first, good working with you, and second, I really like both of your songs. Good for you for using the choral parts; they sounded cool (even if the samples had some fakey ends). And then you're back on your home turf on the second song. The piano part was particularly nice.

B, G, and H, your interpretation of the theme is as thoughtful as Darangen's, and your song wraps up the album well.

Congratulations folks. This rocks. I feel proud to be a small part of all this.

It's probably been a while since you got hit up on this sweet diddy...but it was bound to happen considering my excavation of OC's past projects:

Theme of Great Ace:

Remember that scene after the good guys have gotten the big ugly beat down by some stiff-collared evil army?

The sparse bloodied platoon is sorely defeated and all hope seems to have run dry. The hero takes one scan around and stands tall -- like a glorious statue of William Wallace. [This is where the music does its thing]

He then boldly announces to his broken comrades that defeat is not an option. Gathering their courage with his fiery ignitions, one by one they stand with that wild-eyed look of hope and possible victory. The hero sees he's mustered them to their feet, but he rages on! Soon, the scene erupts into the joyous shouts of men on their way to fight their final battle.

Later, the song tells the brave yet sad tale of these mighty few. Out-numbered and over-tired, many are lost (lots of slow-motion cuts of men falling into the mud with agonized looks twisting their faces)...

But once the smell of flesh blood settles, and the dust clears a path...we see the hero with a handful of survivors, bad-ass silhouttes of the victorious! Oh, and they're mysteriously transported to a mountain summit, where they pose with victorious manliness!

Good work, I enjoyed this track particularly.

So, thanks.

this is probably the best site project on the site...short, cohesive, and mostly quality music. the whole album is enjoyable to listen to with the exception of son of wind and hero of lore...son of wind is just so cliche and mechanical, and hero of lore just makes me want to sleep when i think it was really meant to have some sense of grandeur.

I hate to be the confused, newbie non-remixer who comes in with questions, but here I am. I tried downloading the album, but only some of the tracks play properly. When I attempt to play certain tracks on my computer (Windows XP using Windows MediaPlayer), it tells me that the file type and extension do not match, and an error occurs. The affected tracks are as follows:

02. Free Breezin'
05. Kirby... tacular!
08. Generalized Vegetal
11. Dreams of Valor

They were all downloaded from different mirrors (as I don't have BitTorrent), and I first thought that perhaps I had just downloaded corrupted files. I then attempted to download "02. Free Breezin'" from each mirror, but discovered that none of them work.

All of the files are odd, and range from 500KB to 1.5 KB in size-- which makes no sense. At first I thought maybe I needed a special codec, but I'm not sure. Perhaps these files are these FLAC files I keep reading about? It doesn't seem plausible as it's reported that these are quite large.

Is there something stupid I'm doing that I'm not realizing (besides using Windows? Hehe...), or some easy way to remedy this? I've greatly enjoyed the rest of the album and really would like to hear the rest. Any ideas, input, or help is greatly appreciated! I can also post this in the help part of the forum if it's necessary. Thanks in advance!

Well shoot. Mirror #3 worked this time. I've no idea what happened before, since I tried re-downloading "02. Free Breezin'" from all of the mirrors to test, and they were all fragmented.
