Panel 5 (Hilton Key Ballroom 7-9-10)
OCAD is the unofficial podcast of OverClocked ReMix. If you're familiar with OverClocked ReMix, you'll know already that it is a community of people dedicated to rearranging video game music. What many people never get to know though, is the person behind every posted mix or music-oriented interview. We like to focus less on the professional side and more on the casual side of the guest, although we do go over their musical background and accomplishments, to an extent. We do this podcast to have fun and explore the down-to-earth people that might not be represented in their work.
Stay tuned for more details! There are going to be other great VGM guests at Otakon this year that are on the DL for the moment, but make sure to lock in NOW so you can be there!

As usual, I'll be there, but last time I was at Otakon, the tokusatsu cosplay group got together right in the middle of this. Seeing as how I'm cosplaying as a toku character this year, this means I might have to cut out in midpanel.
I'll still meet up with everybody for the inevitable lunch, though.

Ok I'm having a party/cookout on the FRIDAY of Otakon this year (that's July 30). I can't have it on Sunday as my parents are getting back from vacation that day, and I've already got plans for Saturday.
To accommodate as many people as possible, and because I don't want too too many people over at the same time, I'm having it from Noon to 2am. If you've been to my place before, you're explicitly invited, if not, please send me a PM.
I'm completely broke so please bring something. A 6-pack (or equivalant), some kind of meat/side dish, or $5 is what I'm asking for. Try to coordinate if you're not going to bring cash so I don't end up with enough beer to last me into September (seriously this happened last year, I had to empty the keg into the street before it exploded from gas expansion). Wine is also nice to bring. I might not have enough cash to buy the right things in advance so if you know you'll be attending and won't have a chance to pick up something, consider sending 5 bucks via my paypal: xerol at xerol.org.
I'm personally providing a certain amount of meat (determined by cash-on-hand on the 29th), including hamburger and hot dogs; condiments; buns/bread; and some vegetables (both for grilling and fixins).
If you're going to pick something up, I recommend going to the Mars supermarket here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=1800+York+Rd,+Lutherville-Timonium,+Baltimore,+Maryland+21093&sll=36.949892,-70.3125&sspn=36.294398,65.126953&ie=UTF8&cd=2&geocode=FTCoWQIdZtdu-w&split=0&hq=&hnear=1800+York+Rd,+Lutherville-Timonium,+Baltimore,+Maryland+21093&t=h&z=16). Prices there are generally better and they support local food producers. (Do NOT go to Superfresh or Giant.) This is also about a mile south of my house to get a general idea of where you'll be going. I can ferry people to/from light rail which is accessible directly outside the BCC, but may not run after 11pm or midnight, so if you're coming late make sure you have a way to get back to whereever you're staying.
If you are coming, regardless of whether you've come before, please PM me your phone number. I'll respond with mine and the address. I've recently lost a lot of numbers due to dropping my phone (http://xerol.org/h/img/2088) and having to reset it. My number's changed a few times over the last 2 years as well so this just makes sure everyone has up-to-date contact information. I probably won't be online during the BBQ so you MUST be able to reach me by phone if you have questions.

I don't blame the contestants at all. They were good sports!
I had prepared a list of songs for the name that tune, and practiced them in advance. I chose my songs based on the name that tune I did at PAX East, where guessing was open to the entire audience (of 200? 500? I don't remember). At PAX East, even the ones I thought would be more challenging were guessed very quickly. So this time I decided to pick more obscure songs to make it more challenging for the Otakon crowd, which was even bigger than the PAX East crowd if I'm not mistaken.
Had I known we were going to only select 2 contestants from the audience, I would have picked much more well-known songs. ^_^;

Hey guys, this is the Chozo cosplayer (http://chozoboy.deviantart.com/) from the panel. :)
Thanks for the CD and all. DCK2 is one of my gf's favorite childhood games and she just told me that the panel was her favorite part of the con. Totally felt lame about only identifying two songs, but I bet the other guy must have felt worse. (I actually didn't see my opponent until just a moment ago when I checked out the pics that were posted.) I was kind of peeved that SoR2 and StH2 came up when I grew up with the prequels. My friend sitting in the second row with me was actually way better with game music (I'm mostly just a Ninty fan), but he was the first one to nominate me in the crowd.
If anyone else has any pics/vids of the panel, that would totally rock.

Dude, you had probably the most creative cosplay I saw the entire weekend. I had gotten your picture earlier in the day, and I laughed my ass off when I saw you got picked.
The panel was a blast. The physical DKC2 CD is awesome, and I love my new hoodie. Although it was my third year of going to Otakon and the OCR panel, it was the first that I really hung out and talked to anybody when it was over. It might've been tough to hear because you were behind the musicians as opposed to the rest of the audience - I think we underestimated how tough it was to recognize the melody due to the different instrumentation as well. Most of the songs weren't immediately obvious I felt.
It was great seeing your costume though, that must've been a pain to get on but damn if that wasn't the most amusing costume I've seen.
I linked my album earlier if you want to see pics of the panel - others got them too, so lots of stuff on Facebook if you haven't checked various people's albums yet!

Took about a 30-45 minutes to attach the first time I figured it out. (And a while to get to the con with the wind and all of the photo requests.) The feet and legs were taped onto my clothes, as well as the forearm. The rest of the arm was attached to handles that I held acted as extensions into the claw. I could only take the body off by removing the forearms, so when I ran out of tape, it was stuck on me for the rest of the night. Only wore it Saturday.
I think I'm going to work on it a little more and wear it again next year and make my gf a sprite costume of Samus, but she needs to use the bathroom like every 15 minutes so it'll need to be easier to manage.
