Hey Arek, do you think you want to change the Metaknight Battle to the Metakinght Battle Ending? It is a whole lot easier to make the Metaknight Ending kid-friendly.
No can do. There is a significance to that song. The reason why it is there, is because before kirby fights Marx, he gets a bit nervous. To give himself courage, he remembers when he kicked metaknights butt, hence the reason we have the song there. Sorry guys.

Ok, for my last move. I have no ideas for Metaknight whatsoever. So I'm going to for a A Time To Learn. The only thing I would like to know is the title from the game. Is it Green Greens? (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/Kss_Green_Greens.mid).

If it is, I have many ideas for this. I have an old-fashioned air-type organ, so I can do it much in LAOS's style, except the organ is a lot softer and sweeter, instead of piercing and thin.

Maybe the battle theme could become a "standard" track, and the ending theme could be the easter egg, if DJ_Notte feels like he could do more with that track.

Well I'm finally back home and I still can't get a damn minute to myself (3 siblings). I was in Jerusalem this morning funny enough. Now after 17 hours of flying through a 34 hour day (timezones) I'm pretty pooped. I'm gonna wash up, sleep in, and work like crazy tomorrow. Lots 'o stuff to do at once. :wink:

Strange, thank you for your help, as I am really stumped in this game's music, but I don't think I will be in this project. The fact that I am not informed in this music should have been a hint that I needed help, but everyone thinks they can ignore that. So, I am off the project. Not that I was ever on anyway :whatevaa: . Hope things go better for you Arek, KWarp.

Ugh, I've been working all day on the Storybook and I didn't get nearly as far as I wanted to. I think I spent more than half my time reworking code and trying to fix glitches relating to the table of contents. Anywhoo, here's the latest of the storybook in exe format http://www.kwarp.com/storage/StorybookProject.exe (I'll explain later). If anyone needs a Mac-compatible version just ask and I'll upload it in a jiff.

In other news it seems our Easter Egg animator, KineTheGenius, submitted a cartoon (http://newgrounds.com/portal/view/260996) to newgrounds.com The popularity he's recieved from it is MASSIVE. I strongly reccommend checking it out. :)

Also, Arek's given me some of his shares of the project, so now I own 51% of the company. :P I think it's better just to quote this.

With all that is going on and such, I figured I should follow Gray's advice and take a step back. I shouldn't be handling all this stress with all that I already have...
So yes, he will be handling the art and the writing. I still will be covering the music. I worked hard on that already, so noone but me is controlling that :)

BIG IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!!!

Allrighty, after 20 hours of (mostly) enjoyable work for the past 3 days, I present the complete outline of the Kirby Storybook Project. (http://www.kwarp.com/demo.html) This version outlines the entire plot from start to finish (minus the writing, some music and most of the art =P). What this means for the project is that everybody better get to work! We’re going to become a Site Project!

Artists! I think it’s about time I start giving you some guidance in this crazy project. Here’s a quote from the book, Animators Survival Kit, "I always sketch everything out small first. The little drawings, because they're 'thinking' drawings, always seem to show if the idea is working clearly or not." Simply put, I want you guys to do the same with the Kirby copy ability and environment art, aka, more WIPs. We really need more ‘thinking’ drawings to clutter*kicked* decorate the project with.
EDIT: No WIP due date for the thinking drawings. Post them up as you make them.

I’m dropping Yoyo and Cutter from my art. That would be all of them technically. You guys draw circles around me. :roll:

I learned something interesting in Africa. It seems that all dial-up users will under no circumstance download a file over 10MB. This interests me because I’m certain that I can get the filesize of this entire project at or under that with acceptable quality. Heck, the project outline already has ½ of the entire project in it and it’s only 4.1 MB. <(-‘v^)>

EDIT: Allrighty, Arek and I have agreed that the Metaknight incorporation will take place between the time when Marx makes his wish to Nova, and when the stars create the starship Kirby attacks Nova in (Kirby's unconsious at that time, good moment for a flashback). Nova will be divided into 2 chapters. MaliceX's remix will also be divided accordingly (thanks for the funky Nova sounds at the beginning bud!)

The format is shaping up well, though I wish to suggest a couple of things:
---1. It's notable that the page changing corners are a little weird. Double-click will change, but single click would confuse some since the flap slips off the pointer. Also, you CANNOT see it on a black page theme.
---2. Contents page. Music does not work when selecting. (Only when turning pages does it work)
---3. I'm beginning to think the pages in the book could use a bit of texture of some sort. (Yes I know it's just an outline.) But I dunno, a gradient-coloured page per section seems a little too plain for a children's book. (In my experience anyway.)

More suggestions will come...considering the fact this is still a preliminary outline. I just realised: the thingo has no title page. (I thought every book did? ;P)

Heh, I was kinda hoping my paragraph would be inspiring. <(^_^; )> I promise you I wasn't trying alienate anyone.

Anyway, I've gotten a bit of feedback from some people and so far they think it looks real nice, but it doesn't feel like the big, thick, ancient storybook it should be. Thus, that's what I'll be working on achieving for a while. (EDIT: It seems I can't make the cover page bigger than the other pages. The page itself disappears after 2 flips forward in the book. I'm certain that happens to keep the book from slowing down the computer. Don't wanna mess with that. <(>_>)>)

Could one of the artists please make an ancient-looking page for me? Nothing elaborate is necessary (it could be any color), I just need an ancient-looking page to experiment with. You can even give the page a rough edge to the outside of it if you want (I'd like that anyway :wink:). If you do decide to do that, please export it as a 300x400 PNG (24-bit with alpha) as that will simplify a few things.

If you're worrying about this project enough for it to be causing your heart to explode, you're definitely worrying way too much. :P Just relax for a bit, and don't worry yourself to death! These things take time, and killing yourself wouldn't be good for the project. Take it easy, and don't try to rush through it; the project will finish itself if you just keep nudging it along, little by little. It may take a long time, but who said the greatest things in the world happened overnight? ;)

I've tried doing that in Flash but the flipping code screws me over. That way we can make a better effect of pseudo-3D.

Nicely done. I really like the pages on Floria, nice texture, shading and over all look. I like how in that and Aqualiss the page's shading goes from normal to dark in the middle. On the others I can see how one page has it but the other doesn't. I would say use the same pages you used for Floria for all of them, just change the color.

Usa, can you check that out and see if you can create an illusion of page layering (under the Floria pages) where the black part is? PNG is best. Floria's pages seem to look a bit better, though a little weird with a bit of text around the black bottom edge.. which I should mention is oddly seen on the back of the book. (The red back cover that says pFlip)

I'm not sure, but maybe some advice here: DO NOT USE THE FLASH PLAYER'S REWIND/LOOP/PLAY/FORWARD FEATURES AS IT MAY SCREW UP A COUPLE OF THINGS. (In other words, somehow that should be disabled those menus that appear on right-click.)

I changed a lot of things, refined a lot of things, tried different things and ended up almost the same as before. I'm not yet 100% content with what I got, but I am very satisfied with the outcome of the second section, which is new in this WIP.

For now, I left the wrong chords at the end of the violin passage untouched, I hope someone can get a hint for me, or else I am forced to do it myself by trial-and-error.

I added slightly detuned-ness to the flutes and the clarinet, and I think it sounds more realistic now.

Just got the WIP from Kwarp. I really am liking where it is going. KWarp and I agree that though it is an awesome track, it needs just a bit more work. It sounds really "rough" at the moment. I have to admit though, it something you have to listen to more than once. On my second listen to it, it really grew on me. I really also like how it perfectly loops without any sort of "off" sounds that make it apparent that it does. That definitely gets a +1 from me ^_^
So ya, awesome work. You got something really great going here. Not much to say that you don't already know. Extremely nice job sir. Keep it up. I know the final version will be awesome.

I'll try doing some chapter art covers tonight and this weekend. Want me to just draw it as a scene, or perhaps an actual planet? I think Floria would be good to do as a planet floating in space. I could have it devided into fours, one hemisphere for each season, with a nice photoshop layer mask transition from one season to the other.

And you know, I really like that DeDeDe animation guy's style. If I tried drawing DeDeDe he'd probly be too imposing/menacing for this project's style. XD I mean, I'd make him HUGE and I'd give him an actual beak instead of those big yellow "lips" that he is generally drawn with. I draw evil bird charcters for a living (... I will eventually, anyway) so you can see where I'm coming from.

I've already been improvising some stuff that sounds all desert-y and I'm pretty happy so far. But just so you guys know, I am working every day this week until Friday (the 23rd) thru Monday (26th), where I will be in Minneapolis visiting my brother. The following week I'll work a lot too, cause basically I took my 2 days off per week and smushed them all together into a mini vacation.

But just so you guys know, I am working every day this week until Friday (the 23rd) thru Monday (26th), where I will be in Minneapolis visiting my brother. The following week I'll work a lot too, cause basically I took my 2 days off per week and smushed them all together into a mini vacation.

FYI Overcoat, it's nearly impossible to get a real emotional feel with String instruments, especially considering the music isn't designed for one. I've been playing the instrument for 5 years. :? Yet somehow I still don't have an ear for intonation...

Anyway, I'll record a minuet in my music book sometime this week. You'll hear a difference in "emotional" quality immediately.

There a number of different reasons for it as can be seen above, but the bottom line is it's stopping us all from getting together and making some progress with a fairly large chunk of the project. Thus, as Arek said above, we'll need to make some cuts.

We all know you have lots of talent and lots of enthusiasm, but not all of you are reliable. Wings Of Time, lightwarmth, please make this easy on us and step down voluntarily.

That book is awsome! I noticed something in the Nova section. If you hurry up and turn to the page with the in-game animation of the "wish sequence", the music is almost perfectly insync with the scene!

I do have one suggestion though (and I hate saying this kind of stuff :( ), but would it be possible if you could add a button on the back coverpage that brings you back to the front coverpage or the table of contents? Just in case one would want to go back through the book and read it again. Thats the only problem I came across. Oh! And can someone send the WIP from the "?" level? Im a sucker for the piano :roll:

We had a successful writers meeting indeed. Here's the big idea.

Remixers make music WIPs. This guides us writers to make a plot. The Artists take a scene we describe and depict it visually. It's all connected. However, do not forget that everything is a WIP until finalized. Everyone's work can influence everyone elses, so it's very important that we all get some work done and we all communicate! :)

Flash doesn't stretch bitmaps around as much as vector graphics. If you want the stretchy page effect you'll have to do it yourself. I'll get the page-shape outline up in a couple days. (you'll have to give me the image in PNG 24bit-transparency.)

what you're looking for? It can be modified however you see fit. I could change the curve or whatever, and make a template of the form so that every page could have the same shape. Liquify is a very versatile effect.

And there we are! I only had one picture to test it on, so it'll probably look a little off with any other, but well just have to see. It would probably work best if the size of the canvas you use is 300 x 400, and the image to be paperized is 292 x 366, is 2 pixels from the bottom, and is right up against the left before liquifying it. To use the mesh, put it somewhere you'll find it, and in the liquify window, load it.
There will likely be problems, I warn. I'll try to fix them if they come up, though. : )

Man, making the top so different from the bottom really makes it a challenge!

Reusing the boss much actually sounds like a good idea to me, and, I'm sure it would up the quality of the rest of the songs seeing as how everyone would spend more time on those and less time worrying about how to mix a boss theme.

Maybe LM is right...though I still think each chapter having it's own boss music would be great, just because I personally would be annoyed at reading the story, then the same boss music coming up, over and over...(Unless it was REALLY good and catchy) But for the sake of being interesting, I have to lean towards keeping the individual boss music, even though it is a challenge to the artists, who are swamped with time.

But this isn't exactly an issue of quality vs. quantity, because, for the most part, the people who have stayed dedicated to this project have their songs (if not done altogether), for the most part done. So it wouldn't exactly get in the way to at least give that extra song a try (considering that we are short of remixers, and until we find some people to replace the others that have left, we have some extra time on our hands to give it a shot)

So yeah, I guess I vote to keep to the original plan.

Unfortunately, people don't check the Site Projects section as much as they probably should (especially when they're actually part of a project). I've found that taking the passive approach and hoping people will come to you doesn't work very often; it's much better to be active and initiate contact with everyone involved. That way, you know what's up, and you can make sure people remember if they don't make their way to this section of the forums for a long time.

I try to contact the artists when I can, but that is more of KWarps part. I got in touch in SOME, but the results weren't all that pleasing.

By the way, I'm all for separate boss songs. If the mixer covering the stage can't do it, someone else can just do one in the same style.
