By the way, I'm all for separate boss songs. If the mixer covering the stage can't do it, someone else can just do one in the same style.


A bit soft on the ears...(turn it up) Hmmm...it certainly is interesting...But those drums need a lot more oomph, at least in certain places. (A good example of this is the crash during the triplets at 1:04 that accompany the guitar...that needs to DEFINATELY be much louder, or you need to use a different sample) If you are using FL, maybe some overdrive fx, etc. may help as well...Also, a lot of your instruments seem very bare bones in terms of sound, some small effects might help a bit more.

Also...man this song would sound so much better if that was a real guitar at the end, the way it is now...is kind of bleh. I like the NOTES that are being played, but the instrument itself irks me. If you could find someone who could play that solo for you, the song would go way up in quality.

You've done a nice job keeping it a bit childish, but I don't think you should hold anything back anymore, at this point.

Hmm… I’ve been a bit lax with the art staff working on the Kirby Storybook project as of late. I’d like to get things in order.

My biggest problem is right now is contact. Most of you aren’t following the project topic (mostly my fault) and I can’t get reliable contact with all of you by email. I need to set up some rules.

-Check the project (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=61358&sid=2aab3e4c75e1384c4552f6130f3696f6) topic at least twice a week, especially Sunday when the big updates happen.
-Make sure I can contact you by email when things come up. (Oltri and Claude especially)
-Visit the IRC channel when you can. irc://irc.enterthegame.com/mwwproject

The next difficulty we’ve been having is with actual work. I’ve procrastinated on assigning work to you guys for a long time while the Writing took form. Once again my fault. Things really need to get underway now, therefore I am setting an art deadline for Saturday, November 12th, 2005. The requirements for this deadline are as follows:

-The big idea is that I want to see some work.
-It can be anything from a quick, unpolished sketch portraying the basic idea of what you’re thinking.
-Or it can be a finished picture ready to throw into the storybook.
-Or anything inbetween. (I’d prefer a ½-finished drawing that may or may not be the final one)
-This must be done for all art work you have claimed by the deadline!*
*one exception: Don’t make any finished artwork for chapters without music WIPs. Explanation below:

The basis of this entire book is the music. EVERY aspect of the book must sync up with the music currently playing. Thus the mood of the art should work with the mood of the music. Same applies to the writing.

Footnotes:
-Follow Carefree Captain’s art style (he’s done some artwork on Halfmoon in the book).
-Any art you fail to do work on by the deadline will be up for grabs by other artists
-The deadline may be moved to an earlier/later date depending on art staff feedback.
-I’ll make exceptions to anything stated above should the need arise.

They're hideously rough with a lot of useless thick lines, but that's the best way for me to "round" him out. I'm also aware of the oddness of the top one in the fighter jpg, I need to erase some of that =\ The yoyo with two yoyos isn't a mistake, I was just checking to see where the yoyo would be and stuff.

Anyways, hopefully I can actually contribute something to this project now instead of vegetating. I'll have mirror up soon.

As far as worrying about the project, please don't. I know you're going to say that you can't because it's your project and you really care about it, and I completely understand that, but if you can't perform your duties, I think I can speak for everyone involved when I say that we all understand. Your health is very important. You have already done SO MUCH for this project, and we all appreciate the involvement and dedication you've put in thus far. From my short stay here, and talking in the IRC channel, I can see that there's a good group of fun people here, and I think the setup you've manifested so far is great.

You're a fun person to talk to, even if you cheated on the SGX contest. ;)

Thank you for creating this project, and I hope that whatever is going on is figured out and cured. We're all rooting for you.

Hello everyone, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth yet. Sorry for the absence, but I've managed to get back into working for this project, so I might as well show you what I've got so far in terms of artwork.

I had so much difficulty with Heavy Lobster because it's only shown from the side in the game. I only figured out how to do it when a friend got some reference pictures from the anime.

Anyway, gotta Dedede Animation Problem.

Both Hock and Kine are crunched on time due to collage. Sadly animation is quite a time-consuming work. Enthusiasm for the project has kinda dwindled on Kine's part, and Hock can't incorporate some of the work into his class like he planned to. I've developed my Animation ability some, but that hardly makes up for lost ground.

In short, I'm considering cutting the animation from the project all-together. This would allow us to redirect Hock's abilities towards more Storybook art and the Storybook comics he chose to do. Kine will be off the hook (I think he wants that to happen anyway).

This kind of decision is too big to make on my own. Everyone please express your opinions!

Anyway, gotta Dedede Animation Problem.

Both Hock and Kine are crunched on time due to collage. Sadly animation is quite a time-consuming work. Enthusiasm for the project has kinda dwindled on Kine's part, and Hock can't incorporate some of the work into his class like he planned to. I've developed my Animation ability some, but that hardly makes up for lost ground.

In short, I'm considering cutting the animation from the project all-together. This would allow us to redirect Hock's abilities towards more Storybook art and the Storybook comics he chose to do. Kine will be off the hook (I think he wants that to happen anyway).

This kind of decision is too big to make on my own. Everyone please express your opinions!

As much as everyone would like to see the animation alongside the project, it just sounds like attempting to retain the animation despite the time and personnel issues will only hamper the project's completion. Unless new guys can step up out of nowhere, I'd drop it and be content with just some storyboards or something to that effect.

If push comes to shove, how about a semi-animated storyboard, or "animatic" of sorts? That would lessen the load.

Glad to see the opinions coming in. This is truely a point of the project where it can fall either way.

Another idea I've been considering is something like the RoFL: Plutonium Edition seen in the Duck Hunt Remix project. If the animation is done in time for the project, great! If not, we can add it on later.

For those of you who want to use your animation talents to help with the project. I recommend against it. Animation teams cut down a lot of work, but the larger they get the more leadership and organization it takes to make the team effective. We're only as fast as out slowest hiker. We have 2 now (me being an unofficial 3rd), and any larger than that will make the project too stressful. (Still, chat with me. Something might be worked out.)

I also may as well post the status of the animation: Nothing. No concept art, storyboards, anything has been done past that first 5-second WIP. That's exactly why enthusiasm for the project has hit rock bottom. The only time both of them have time to work on the animation is winter break, exactly the time when I can't supervise them. >_<

Once again I stress that this can succeed, or it may not. It's all about staff opinions and concise planning at this point. Now where's Kine.. *emails*

And there we are! I only had one picture to test it on, so it'll probably look a little off with any other, but well just have to see. It would probably work best if the size of the canvas you use is 300 x 400, and the image to be paperized is 292 x 366, is 2 pixels from the bottom, and is right up against the left before liquifying it. To use the mesh, put it somewhere you'll find it, and in the liquify window, load it.
There will likely be problems, I warn. I'll try to fix them if they come up, though. : )

Man, making the top so different from the bottom really makes it a challenge!

Nice but isn't it supposed to have a handdrawn feel? The bottom and light looks awesome but the top rocks look too triangular and unnatural... maybe mess with those and it would be perfect

Isn't it looking hand-drawn? I mean, you can also draw shapes like that by hand, and in fact, I wanted them to be this way - after all, it's Kirby, and the backgrounds in Kirby aren't natural at all. Plus the rainbow is pretty kirby-esque IMO :)

As far as I'm aware, the hand-drawn kiddy looked applied to the pages that involved Kirby and his interaction with things. As far as stage settings the style might be open.

You know what, this Saturday's been one of the best days I've had in a long, long time. I finally got involved in this project again, and I'm telling you it's the most fun I've had in my life. :D We're doing something that's never been done before, and that in itself is exciting, but that isn't the main reason why this is so enjoyable. In fact, neither is the awesome art I've seen, music I've heard, or book I've built onto. I'm enjoying this because I'm working with good friends and fun people, and I have never laughed harder. Seriously, the conversations we get into on AIM, IRC, and even in this topic have made me fall off my chair laughing until I couldn't laugh anymore.

Arek, I totally owe this pleasure to you. Without your brilliant idea to turn a videogame into a storybook, none of this would ever have taken off. I'm glad to have you as a partner, and even more so as a friend. :) Yeah, I know that sounds cheesy, but damn, it's the truth.

Upon KWarp's request, I have finished creating the mesh that will warp - KWarp, if you will ;) - the pages into the shape of the book. Since KWarp can't give directions to save his life, I made the mesh for the reverse side of the book, so it'll be a small process to get it to work. If you don't feel like doing it, or don't have Photoshop to be able to use the mesh, you can contact me and send me the pictures so that I can implement it for you. For the adventurous folk among you, I have written the directions to make the book shape for you. Enjoy!



OK artists,

So, you're sitting here, you've got this shiny, "finished" image, everyone likes it. You think you're on top of the world, right? WRONG! Why, oh why, Mr. or Ms. artist, is your image so FLAT?! Well, fear not, for I have the mesh that will fix ALL your problems. To implement it, follow the proceeding steps:

1. Save this mesh file (http://studentweb.uwstout.edu/behnkec/book.msh.zip) to your desktop or somewhere else where you'll be able to find it and get to it easily.

2. Open your image in Photoshop.

3. Set the image size to 292 x 366 pixels (that's in Image --> Image Size, if you didn't know). I would recommend flattening it first (Layer --> Flatten Image). Make sure when you do this, you make it a layer, as opposed to "background." (If it says "background" in the Layers palette, double click on it.)

4. Set the Canvas Size to 300 x 400 pixels

5. If snap isn't on, turn it on now. (View --> Snap)

6. Set your image right up against the left side of the page, and nudge it up two pixels from the bottom.

7. Flip the canvas horizontally. (Image --> Rotate Canvas --> Flip Canvas Horizontal)

8. Now you will apply the mesh. Open the liquify panel. (Filter --> Liquify) Within this panel, there will be an option to "Load Mesh" in the upper-right corner of the panel. Load the book.msh file I provided earlier. Now your page should look like a book page.

9. Click "OK" in the Liquify panel, returning you to the main window.

10. Your image should still be backwards, though. To fix it, simply flip the canvas horizontally once again. (Image --> Rotate Canvas --> Flip Canvas Horizontal)

11. Save your image, and you're done! It should look similar to this Dwelling of Duels artwork which I applied the mesh to as an example.
KWARP EDIT: Flash can only identify transparencies in PNG (and gif), make sure you give me PNG to work with. >.>

Hmmm.... is the "Dwelling of duels" originally written parallel to the bottom of the page? If so, your template needs some additional tweaking. It looks like it's going up a bit... My suggestion is to use a page with a grid, so you can see if everything is parallel and in the right place. It looks a bit strange to me.

Guess, shear is the better way after all :P

Soo... I'm in a bit of a pickle here.. I'll just quote what I've posted on Actionscript.org >.>\

I have been using Flash 7 at my desktop computer to work on a group project. Currently I'm overseas and I hoped to download a trial version of Flash 7 on another computer over here to continue my work.

So far, this hasn't worked and here's why:
-Macromedia's website only offers a trial version of Flash 8
-When googling, I find trial versions of Flash 6
-When googling I DO NOT find Flash 7.0 for Windows
-When googling, I find versions of Flash 7.2 BUT it will only install if 7.0 is already installed

(NOTE: Moving from Flash 7 to Flash 8 to Flash 7 again will leave some really messy results. I wish to avoid that.)

My options:
-Give up (bad idea)
-Have someone who's better than me at googling find it
-Have someone send me the 7.0 installer via email, AIM, a server, etc.

Can someone be my hero? :(

Mastering sounds like a pretty time-consuming job. What factors are involved besides volume control?

Oh yeah, and may as well say something about the Dedede project. I'm not going to lie, production is seriously dragging. Hock's drawn 2 things, Kine's drawn one, and I only have 1/2 of the storyboarding done. I can fill in a few gaps of the animation, but not a whole minute of it. <(@_@)> We really need to take action. Some dedicated and useful help would be appreciated.

Well, considering that Kyle made a Wikipedia article for the project (in haste, IMO), I'd recommend anyone else do what they can to contribute content regarding the project to prevent the article from being deleted.
