I wouldn't get bent out of shape over the delay Arek. If you rush things, you end up with a half-assed collaboration that is not worthy of the name Kirby. Just think about how awsome it will be when its done!
I cant do any writing yet, but Im still good at giving support :D !

Is it anything that a writer needs to know, and what is mIRC?

and what is mIRC?
mIRC is a great [probably best] IRC client. IRC is "Internet Relay Chat," which is self explanatory. Anyway, google it and you'll know.

no seriously. It's just a chat thing similar to an im chatroom but with a bunch of /commands and you can download stuff off the different channels and stuff... but it's confusing as hell... I gave up after the 20th failed download... -_-

My track is finished and submitted early as a teaser (as per Arek's instructions).
Usa: sorry I couldn't run it by you first, but Arek really wanted me to get it in, and to be honest, so did I. I ran the final version by Zircon before sending it in, and he said it was good.
Arek and KWarp: I'll send you the track in whatever format/bitrate you like next time I catch you on AIM.

Okay, well, if anyone wants me to critique ANYTHING (I think I am a pretty good critic), just link me to something. I want this project to work, and I find that I am at my best when I'm telling other people what to do. -_- So whether it be music or artwork, just link me to whatever, and I will try to give some very constructive criticism, and if you would prefer it to be private, no problem. I will pm you or whatever.
So if you aren't sure about something, or just want a little input, send it my way (But send it to KWarp and Arek first since they are the project leaders and bleuab lahjsha :P )
DISCLAIMER THOUGH: I AM NOT THe FINAL SAY in ANYTHING SO DON'T TELL AREK WHEN I DO BAD THAT I SAID "this or that" blahrlaghb
No seriously, send me stuff. :)

Very very important stuff.
While at work today, the nintendo rep came in to do his usual routine of changing out advertisements and such. Never meeting the the guy in person, I said hello and introduced myself. From there, we talked for a good three hours about games and what not. After helping some customers while he worked on some displays, I asked him if he knew about Ocremix. He said he went there time to time. I told him about the site projects portion of the forum and about all the site projects *yes all, you bastards. I ain't gonna just put my project in the limelight :)*. He was thrilled over them all. He was most excited about SoS and MWW. He told me that Nintendo was looking out for all sorts of fan projects, and he said that mine sounded awesome. He said that he might get this featured. That made me VERY happy.
He said that he would check out the forums when he got home after going to the other stores and doing his routine. I hope he posts here.
Rich Mears was his name. He said he was going to be at E3 too. Can't wait to see him there. I gots me da hookups if I want to get to the front of line for anything Nintendo :o

Oh, by the way, we need to talk about website design as there's been no talk at all about it... well, ever. :? If anyone has some useful input about the subject (stuff to look out for, common problems, good approaches, etc.) I'd be more than happy to hear it. :)

~votes for there to be an art request thread~
Haha, I was about to say if you're missing a few people on the art team I might give it a shot. I'm usually better at hand-drawn stuff than computer stuff anyways :P
Here's some examples I've done, although they're not Kirby though.
Example 1 - Crash Bandicoot "Outdoor Showers" (http://pictures.fanart-central.net/r/Rexy/78298.jpg)
Example 2 - Neopets "Dawn of the Mynci" (http://pictures.fanart-central.net/r/Rexy/83168.jpg)
Example 3 - Pinocchio "The Happy Little Puppet" (http://pictures.fanart-central.net/r/Rexy/106242.jpg)
I'd do anything to help a fellow coordinator :)

Hahaha, holy KS Cyan_Ide. :P
As much as I want to show one of my images of the Baron, I don't really think they can match up in quality - and in some cases, seriousness - to what I showed in my initial art post. Nice try anyway.

quickie. As you can see I tend to go overboard with shading. Is there any darker themed or looking pictures you need? I could give them a shot if you like the style although everything would needx ot be hand drawn since all I've got is ms paint and I'm kinda lasy to bother learning anything else right now.

I think I remember why I originally set the WIP deadline for the 9th...
.. I have finals all this week. -_-;
-Cyan's on time
-Neo's on time
-CareFree Captain is late and has been out of contact
-G Man is late EDIT: but has turned in his WIP.
-Oltri is late and has been in contact. Shame on you. ;[
My time on these boards this week will be sparse, if any.
Well I ain't too far with my proposed sketches for the copy and hammer abilities. I should be able to have them ready by the deadline I was at least given.
Mind you, it's not finals that are trying their best to hold me back from my work; it's Harvest Moon >.> Still, I will be there. I promise.

Alright guys, now that the project is winding down, there is something huge and very important that I will be needing from you guys.
1) A picture of yourself that we can use for your bio on our project website
2) A written bio about you. It should be formatted as like diz:
(a greeting from you)
(A little about yourself)
(Why you joined the project)
So basically.....here is an example:
Hello there, I am Arek the absolute. blah blah blah blah
I am 18 years old and currently working and in college etc etc
I joined the project because I thought kirby is cute and I was like zomg kawaii etc etc etc
-----
This is very very important and I need both the pictures and the bio to be done and sent to me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Please send them to my pm box when you are done.
Thanks guys!

I messed up on the colouring >__< It ended up cel-shaded. Filters make it look worse.
If anyone can help me alter it to make it look like the style that it should be go ahead.
If not, I'll try again and see what I can do.
Err... I don't know how I can show the picture to project people only.. so I just uploaded it to http://photobucket.com/albums/e271/mwwproject/oltri/
I guess the artists can upload their stuff there (make a folder with your username?). Username is mwwproject and the password is the last password for the storybook. View only is the last password plus an "s". So if the password was butter, view only would be butters.

Sam's shown me a couple (http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9646/frogshirt5eq.jpg) of works (http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5118/sample17ik.jpg) he's made. He's proven himself capable, and I look forward to seeing some comic work EDIT: He sent me them just now. All I can say is WHOA AWESOME. Can't show it here for spoiler reasons.
Sorry I've been so vague and mysterious this week. <(^_^; )> A lot of my admin duties have been handled internally with recruiting new art staff, so I've been pretty busy. I swear I'll have a new storybook version up by the end of next week at absolute latest.

KWarp11: looking for something like that
KWarp11: know anyone that can do it?
Hock1215: Hm. All you do is airbrush that stuff and then blur it in Photoshop... o_O
Hock1215: Or run a few filters to make it look like a work of art
KWarp11: nice, so it's pretty simple work for most artists do right?
Hock1215: Well yeah. Although that might be hand-painted

Hmm.. :?
March has been a crippling month for everyone. To my understanding next to nothing has been done for this project. Believe me, I've felt the crippling effects myself. My life's divided between 7 academic subjects, after-school sports, and String Quartet. Less than 12 hours of my week actually goes to my leasure time (storybook, message boards, website), which is becoming more of a chore in itself. My weekend consists of at least 30 hours of sleeping to catch up from my 4-5 hour weeknight sleep. Spring break has arrived and I've slept at least 10 hours of every night so far. If anyone understands the plight of our art team, it's me.
Don't think I've wanted this to happen. In fact I'm kicking myself for letting it get so bad. I could have been more active in the project, I could kept in regular contact with all the artists, surely that's something doable right?
It isn't.
The fact is that when I send out emails to the entire art staff, I hear back from less than half of them. Worse yet, my latest request for a headcount went virtually unnoticed. Frankly, we lack centralization, and it's killing us.
The Kirby Storybook Project, unlike any other remix project so far, can't function as a group of individual, isolated staff members doing their own thing and compiling it into an album. This isn't just music, it's an interactive experience that requires constant communication between the staff to make a truely amazing product.
Thus we have the problem: How can 2 people bring together 20 people and get them to become vocal and active in a project without any monetary or legally binding ties, and across great distances no less?
Fandom. Fandom is what inspired Arek to start this project, and fandom is what has brought all our current staff in. Certainly fandom can be the uniting force that gets this project back on it's feet and helps it dash to the goal.
So fellas, it's make or break time. Are we just going hide in a corner and give up, or are we going to finish this project? :P

Thanks for the responses guys. It means a lot to me.
Well, now that our biggest problem has been identified (communication), we need to take some steps to solve it.
Here's my idea: We create another thread for this project, one that's password-protected, so that the staff can discuss ideas freely and openly without worrying about the peeping eyes of the public. Hopefully DJP or Darkesword can hook us up with one. :)
What do you guys reccomend? Should I tighten up email regulations? Do I need to crack down on people who haven't shown up yet? (Should I bribe ya'll? :P)

Get a website and/or your own forums. That seems to be working well on Summoning of Spirits (minus one person).
Kyle got it right, Overcoat. But even if I was a n00b (more of a n00b, anyways), a suggestion is still a suggestion. Just trying to give advice, since the writing does seem to be what's held up.

Good points Arek and Pzykotikfreak, I just wanted to attempt to have it done here first so all the staff wouldn't have to deal with reregistering their names (thus improving centralization). In fact, I'll stand by this request until I hear from DJP or Darkesword directly. :)

Omg is that style allowed for the project? Please? >_>;
It's about time to bring up art styles again.
I won't lie, we made a serious mistake early on by telling all the artists to conform to one type of art style. I've made it worse by not bringing it up sooner. Quite frankly, one type of art style throughout the whole book doesn't work. :? I've thought about it for quite a while, and, if it's still possible, I'd like the art to vary chapter by chapter. I mean, we could certainly do it, just flip through the book and you'll see a lot of WIP work, with only 10% finished art.
Should we do this, I'll have to shuffle the workload around a bit. I figure if each chapter has one distinct art style, there should only be one (preferably) or two artists working on said chapter.
I need a vote. Who's up for it?
-Hemophiliac: Not voted

Will my vote count for anything?
I think the varied art would be cool, but I feel it should still look like one big cohesive book. I've seen the idea both work well in comics and work terribly in comics, it could go either way.
Also I hope someone draws like my sig pic ^_^ that would be awesome
The G-Man
04-04-2006, 01:06 PM
With all the claimed art spread out, it'll be hard to get some people to switch things around to cater to that idea. For example, I have 2 completed pictures: Fatty Whale and Wheel. If we were to go with that then one of them would have to go unused, correct?
I could care less frankly. As long as it's fun to do the style could be surrealist pointallism.
Arek the Absolute
04-04-2006, 04:19 PM
So either make it look like Trigun or FLCL...
Ya I am going to go with trigun.

You guys are the most vocal, so I figure your opinions will follow through. I'll leave the voting open for further opinions, but I need to be decisive, so I'm moving on. I'll evaluate each request for a different art style on a case-by-case basis.
So here's my policy Oltri: The art style we lay out is a guideline. If you can make better art in a different style, I say by all means go for it (just let me see the work in progress. :P ).
Oltri
04-05-2006, 01:10 AM
The style will resemble the quick sketch The G-Man did >_> The reason I wanted other styles is because I don't have a way to make it look crayonish. Photoshop filters suck, and I don't have a program that can emulate crayon properly.

Sorry about my long hiatus, but I return bearing gifts.
ZOMG STOP POSTING ART IN THE THREAD!!!
Teh sweet though.:)
Expect to see Ninja before the Deadline.
Hello people! Long time no see... Since I had work to compose music for a $200.000 TV production, some plugin problems with the upcoming MacOS X 10.4.6 upgrade, and am undergoing a MAJOR keyboard upgrade right now, I haven't been able to do much in the recent time. Kyle's project being delayed added to this slacking period, but I think it will be over as soon as I got my new hardware setup up, running and got accustomed to it.
I want to say I am sorry for that, and this does not at all mean I don't want to finish this. I have already done a lot of tracks on this one and no one will stop me doing the rest, with notable improvement in sound quality as a compensation for the waiting time. I now got the same series keyboard I had before but two generations newer :) Expect something great in the near future!

art deadline is tomorrow :o
I'm telling you guys that I have been at work. My problem is, this week had me doing my exams so I couldn't get much finalisation done on the poses that I was requiring. Luckily enough it's bank holiday weekend, so if it's not tomorrow the sketches will be in within the next couple of days.
Also, chances are that I may need to drop Copy for the time being and just focus on getting Hammer established first off. I think I tackled too much at a time. O_o

This project won't be released until it's complete. How soon that is depends on how quickly ANYONE can recruit artists for the project. OCRemix is almost entirely a music community. Thus, a music release would dissolve all support for the completion of this project. I'm not letting that happen. :?

I've been saying this: The storybook is what makes this project unique. Releasing the music now just turns it into "any old remix collection" like Metroid/DKC/Doom etc, not that those are bad, but this could be special :)
Please don't get impatient.

Well, Arek just messaged me and said that I HAD to, so I guess I have no choice...
I'm still kinda confused with the first post though, as far as what needs to be included with each picture and how they will eventually be incorporated into the book. An example would be Fighter Kirby. Would I just draw Fighter Kirby looking cool, or should be be beating up an enemy? What about backgrounds? Should I see what other people have done so far so I can keep things similar? Can I draw him in a cool pose/perspective, or should he be fairly plain? I just feel like I don't have enough information. Or at least, not enough in one place. I'd love to help work on this, and I had no idea you still needed artists or I would have volunteered long ago. If I can get some more info, I'll start working on it immediately.

It's not as though remix projects are stagnant, there are only, like, six out there right now. Thing is, I don't think I'll even look at the art more than once, it's the music I'll be listening to over and over again, and it's the music that gets me excited about the project.
But if you want artists, I'll talk to my friend about registering here and helping out...

Yes, but releasing the music early destroys the entire reason for this project to exist in the first place. The whole idea has always been to have a storybook that coincides with a soundtrack, which makes the project unique and sets it apart from the others. I suggest wait until the entire project can be enjoyed in it's full glory, the way it was originally intended.

Oh, nonono... I misspoke myself, there. I didn't mean "release the music early, whether or not the art is done yet," I'm just noting that I'll look at the storybook a couple of times and then make a CD out of the music and get a lot more use of it.
Though now that I think of it, if it's Kirby-esque enough (read: child-safe), I may actually show it to my little eight-year-old sister, she'd like it... actually, I'm suddenly getting excited about the art now, LOL.
