PLEASE REPORT ANY ERRORS HERE IN THIS THREAD. THANK YOU!
--- FAQ ---
Q: What is the OCR Mascot Bio Project all about?
A: The OCR Mascot Bio Project has enabled visitors of the site to click the mascots (game characters) in the upper right corner of the page and read about who they are, what games they appear in, and links to remixes of those games. Also, the bio pages include links to other pages for more information on the characters. Go here (http://www.ocremix.org/info/Category:Mascots) for more info.
Q: How can I help?
A: Now that we're "finished", we would appreciate being told about any typos, dead links or other errors in the bios. If new games are added to OCReMix and any of the mascot characters appear in them, please inform us so that we can update the appearance lists.
--- Progress Report ---
All of the bios have been uploaded into the wiki and djp has finally made the mascots clickable, redirecting the clicker to the wiki pages.

There was a forum where they were trying to name all of them. It may be around here somewhere....

-Edit-
Shall we create the new thread in the newbies forum?
Perhaps the thread creator can accept PMs from the rest of the people involved in the project, and thusly, constantly and consistantly update the first post of said thread until all characters have been identified?

That's alright, Google can help too.
As would I like to. If we are able to make this a site project, we should divi up the characters to everyone that wants to help. Or perhaps just have everyone contribute whatever info they can and have some people collect, sort, and organize info for each character. Nice idea/work to this thread's creator :nicework:
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about...New people that contribute in a positive way

Well... it was mainly aimed at the people who run this site, but of course, letting the lesser beings in this community do the work is an excellent idea. I just thought it's kinda annoying when characters you know by neither name nor game show up and there's really no way to find out. The least you could expect is to have a name pop up when you point your mouse over it, like when I hold my mouse pointer over one of the emoticons here on the left, it says "Title: Crying or Very sad". I'm glad people are glad I brought this up. I have no idea of how to organise things at all. I can write about characters and stuff, do research on their stories and games and so on but I'm not a web designer.

Well, a list of names for all of them was made not that long ago. I'll see if I can find it.

Xerol Oplan
07-27-2005, 12:22 AM
I think it's been said multiple times that a list has been made, but that wasn't what was asked - the point is to not only have the name for the character, but the background information as well, like system, game, company, and a short blurb on the character's role.
Orithil
07-27-2005, 12:29 AM
Well, I'm sure alot of other people could do it, but I'm willing to put up a little website on like geocities or something to hold a complete list, with pics and all the accumulated stories. Thus is about the extent of my skills...with my primary computer dead, I can't do too much else. But no worries, my system will be ressurected in a few days...and then I can really go to town on it.

I talked to Dave, and he thinks the idea has some merit. Something we're thinking about doing is creating a small, dedicated, locked forum for mascot bios; clicking on a mascot will take you to a post where you can read the bio and click on pertinent links.
This kind of project really requires an organizer/editor. Dafydd, I know that you started this thread, so if you want that job, you can go ahead and take it, or you can choose one or two other forumers to help you out with the organizational and editing process. Things to keep in mind will be the format of the bio, clarity of the language used, and the length.
Of course, all forumers are encouraged to submit content, but that content may very well be edited and reformatted to fit forthcoming guidelines that an editor/editors will outline.
The bottom line is that this stuff will need to look professional, because it'll be a part of the site.
Let me know what you guys would like to do as far as organization is concerned, and then we can create a new organizational thread in the Site Projects forum. 8)

I'm up for creating bios and such that could be of interest (like the games they're from, particular notes about the characters, etc. - I think I should be able to do a good job with most of the RPG related characters, as well as the Nintendo ones; I can also do a good portion of the other ones too though, not just those).

I'll help any way I can, though I'm not volunteering to be one of the main organizers since I, myself, am not organized nor do I have the amount of time and effort it would require to be in such a position.
I, too, am glad I'm not the only one who thought the thread title was a bit...sexually referenced XD

This kind of project really requires an organizer/editor.
There's always wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_software) software. ;) Seriously, I think there should be a subdomain wiki site of OCR for these character profiles. It'll make it so anyone can easily add their contributions and moderate others' contributions as well. Once everything's good I think you can lockdown the wiki so it's no longer editable.
Just a thought. I don't know all of the technicalities of administrating a wiki site. But if there's someone who does, it could make this whole process run smoothly.

Setting up a wiki is more work than necessary, considering we have a forum system already in place. :P

P.S. The title of this thread makes me laugh for some reason.
It wasn't really intented to be a pun at first (in fact, I didn't know what else to call the Mascots, the word just didn't come to mind), but you're right. Obviously, though, writing SEX anywhere is a well-known way to redirect attention that way, that is, had this thread been named "Mascot bios" (something I never would have come up with although it would have been much more adequate), chances are it wouldn't have had this many visitors. I guess the fact that the thread name didn't really clarify the subject helped, too. :) What surprises me, however, is how quickly someone like DarkeSword showed up. Hm.
I'd be honored to be the organizer/editor of the whole thing, but obviously, I couldn't do it all on my own. First off, I stated in the beginning that I don't know who half of the "mascots" are, which means I'd have difficulties editing the content related to those characters. As far as professionality (if there's such a word) goes, I intend to make a simple, easy-to-navigate, well-spelled and consistent, albeit small "database". I have a ton of questions (that may be better off in the organizational forum you (DarkeSword) mentioned) about what we're aiming at. The purpose of the whole thing should, obviously, be to provide information about the game characters, for all to see and primarily provided for those who know very little or nothing. Or isn't it? I mean...
how... EXTENSIVE is this going to be? I know several people who could probably write a 3-page essay on that car (what car is it anyway?), which is propably not of immediate interest. Are we to provide tons of non-vital information for those interested, or simply provide links (of course, we would be providing links in any case, likely a large number of them, too. Of course, if the character appears in a game that has music that has been remixed and can be found on this site, we would provide direct links to those game pages)? Are we to provide fun facts like "Captain Falcon is originally a comic book character" (or was this only after the realease of F-Zero?) and "Mega Man was originally named Rainbow Man" and "Yoshi has also made small guest appearances in
games like Zelda - Link's Awakening" (I'd like us to...)? Are we to include pictures, other than those already found on page 2 in this thread?
And how do we handle all of the information we're likely to recieve? Should we require information on where the information was found, or just consider most of it to be - pretty much - common knowledge (it'd be pretty embarrasing to publish untrue information in those bios, wouldn't it )? Also, we wouldn't want people to come and tell us that we "stole" info on something from their sites. Are we to be very strict and make no opinionated statements whatsoever, like an encyclopedia, or are we allowed to occasionally make fun of the characters? I mean, DJ Pretzel may be professional, but his analysises of accepted submissions are by no means "strict", and often include stories about his own experiences with the game, and sometimes completely irrelevant information (both of which I appreciate, because it makes reading them a lot more fun).
Also, the entire prospect reawakens forgotten questions about the mascots. Who decided to put them up in the first place? Who chose which ones to put up there? And why? Why does Princess Zelda have 2 mascot pictures? :) And, finally, are we to eventually include the forum member mascots as well (so I can click on the girl next to DarkeSword's name and find out whether she's angry or sad or doesn't know)?
I'm asking all of these questions out loud and outside of the "organizational" forum, because I want more than those few deeply involved to have their say, at least to start with, but I also want an "offical" point of view from the OCR staff (a general one), and all of this BEFORE I, or someone else, pick out the lucky few to be those deeply involved. As DarkeSword stated, however, everyone's welcome to help, but we do need a few people to collect and edit it all, and to make the decisions. Considering how much I've already thought into all this, I would feel very powerless NOT to be part of this crew. Who else should be in there is really very early to say, but I guess we shouldn't be more than 3 or 4 people in total, unless we need someone to do something very specific, like helping with graphics or such.

For the sake of comparison, is my previous post about the size of a mascot bio page? Or too big? Or too small? I feel the bio pages should be slightly smaller, but then that's me.

I'd say as much information as possible (without spoiling anything), but with some quick, short-version facts at the top. People can read as much as they want. Big pictures are a plus, as well as maybe a screen or two of them actually in the game?
Dafydd

Yes. If we did post a lot of information, then, naturally, we would make sure to make the non-vital less evident, maybe even providing a link that says "read more" instead of just making a huge post that might even scare most people off. I for one will try my best to make sure this whole thing is well organized when it's finished. The question is if we really should try to gather as much information as possible and post it here, or if we should make posts of about the same size as the big one I made above, and then post links to sites that already include all of this non-vital information (that may or may not be of questionable credibility). One big part of the work would be finding already existing and GOOD fansites and provide links to those sites (maybe 4 or 5 per character, or less, depending on how popular and well known the character is), regardless of how much information we put here. I wouldn't want this to become a new giant game character encyclopedia, that's not the point. This would be better off serving as something that introduces the mascot characters to people who know nothing or very little about them, and that hopefully inspires those people to find out more by following the links to the sites that provide more info than we do. In a sense, it might even serve as a bridge between people who have played Squaresoft games all their lives and who never heard of Mega Man (heaven forbid) and the people whose situation is rather the opposite. Of course, that last part sounds a little like a Martin Luther King dream, but if we can accomplish something that will change the world for the better, why not... "OCRemix Mascot Bio Database - Fighting Ignorance - Thy Deliverance." :)
Screenshots from the games would be pretty nice indeed.

Which original are we talking about? The original Super Mario Bros or the original Donkey Kong? Speaking of Mario, this is what I found on wikipedia, which is what someone mentioned as an already existing source of information.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario
Obviously, we're not going to attempt to compete with as extensive a database as this. This is probably not the case with most of the 130 or so other mascots, but as far as Mario is concerned, it almost feels like the most convenient thing to do would be to simply redirect anyone who clicks the Mario mascot to the URL above, even though that does feel kind of sloppy.
I guess the least you could expect is to get to know the mascot's name, what games it's been in (as an important character), and a short bio. If we can't find any good fansites on the character, THEN we should provide more information, but if there are already well-organized and reliable sources of information, there's really no need to put much of it here. In any case, however, we should always post links to games pages for games that the character has been in if that game has music that has been remixed and can be found on OCR. Wow, that last sentence really didn't make much sense, did it? :? I'll blame the fact that I haven' t slept for a good long while. I guess that's what I should go ahead and do for now, until someone in charge comes back to inform us about the current situation.

The thing that bugs me the most about seeing the Mascots is that you sometimes see Mascots that have no actual remixes from the site.
One example is Snake. Yes, there are Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 remixes on the site, but the picture is a cleary a one of Metal Gear Solid 3, yet there are no remixes of the sort to be found here.

Two or three paragraphs is fine for each character. Adding few fun facts is fine as well.
And how do we handle all of the information we're likely to recieve? Content submissions should provide credible sources, unless it's common knowledge (i.e., Mario was in the Super Mario series). Keep character bios as objective as possible. Since there are so many different people submitting content, it's inconsistent for everyone to editorialize.
Those questions are pretty irrelevant. DJP added the mascots as a part of the redesign. Forum avatars are not 'mascots,' so leave them out.

I don't really think you need any extra graphics. Just one picture of the character is good enough.
Asking why Zelda has two pictures may seem irrelevant, however, what to do with those two pictures are not.
If you click on http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot28.jpg should it bring you to the exact same bio as http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot94.jpg?

Go ahead and start choosing people and assigning jobs, etc. It's your show; you're the project leader. Edit your first post's thread title to something like "OCR Mascot Bio Project," and write out what you need from people. Well, obviously the one on the left is from a different game than on the right, and a part of these bios is/may be the games this character has been in. So, I suppose in a sense the bios would pretty much be the same, except for the game section. Unless in order to save a page one could direct both pic-links to the same page, and in the game section just say [young zelda] or [mature zelda] for whichever game corresponds accordingly.

Yup. Also, it might help things to run smoothly if we were each assigned (or we each choose, it doesn't really matter) a set of characters to write bios on. It shouldn't be a problem if someone gets characters they don't really know because Google is like your old grandfather who knows just about everything.
One last thing, I know it was already sort of mentioned in this thread, but a definate layout/outline should be created so that everyone knows exactly what the format for each bios should look like.

The two Zeldas are, in fact, two different people, from different eras/timelines, and therefore would have completely different backgrounds. There are multiple Links as well.
This might be an issue for the two Samus mascots, though.

Yeah, I was hoping we could agree on something together.
This is, basically, an idea of how I want it, and is still subject to change. Visualizing it using the forum layout tools gets pretty difficult. On top to the left:
Character Name
Creator (Company) (company/manufacturer names should be clickable links to their sites)
Year of Creation
To the right of this information, the mascot picture. I'd prefer if we could have the pictures without their backgrounds, as well as having the entire bio page background white instead of gray.
Below:
Introduction, "who is this guy". We will specify exactly what to write here later.
Then: Short biography - where does this guy come from and how did he end up becoming a super hero? Sometimes the introduction and the biography might sort of bleed into each other. Shit happens. :)
After that: Major/more significant apperances, what those games were about, what kind of games they are, etc.
Each of these 3 things should take about one paragraph, so no... huge... enormous... big... monster essays.
To the right of that information, a (more or less) full list of games in which the character has appeared. If a game has music remixed on this site, the name of the game will be a link that redirects you to the remixes page for that game. The best thing would be if this list could be somehow dynamically updated so that if a game that isn't already covered suddenly becomes so, the name of that game will turn into a link automatically instead of us having to manually oversee the pages every time a new mix arrives. I'm not sure how that would work, but it'd be cool.
EDIT: On the very bottom, a list of useful links to fan pages or the likes.
Well, what do you think? Is it, in general, a good layout? Opinions? Massive critisism?

I'm typically on aim more in the evening... 7-11 PM central. However, I live it up and away most of the day. I think it would be good if people "claim" three or so characters at a time. If it's okay with you, I'll claim:
Mascot 1: Link(Ocarina Art)
Mascot 5: Mario(64 Art w/ wingcap)
Mascot 25: SSBM Bowser
I'll follow the outline you gave. Then maybe if I notice any issues, I'll let you know about them. I might have trouble with some of the linking things though.
And since we're going to stick this bugger into the message board as topics, should I just type it into here or copy from word?

Well, you said you wanted to do nintendo characters, so go ahead and get started. There are a few things I want to say first though -
1. I think we might be better off with having Mario, Link and other characters that have several different pictures on one bio page instead of one for each picture (one exception being Mega Man/Mega Man X, since they are not really the same character at all). Then you can just mention "this picture is from Mario 64" and explain what function the winged hat serves etc. Link would, naturally, have several bios, however. Telling people in detail about every single one of them might not be in our best interest, so I suggest you try to figure out what's similar about them (him seemingly always starting out as an orphan sent by greater powers to fight evil (usually Ganon) and save princess Zelda (Link's awakening being a notable exception)) since they are all independent games with independent stories, I mean (wow, that's some serious overuse of paranthesises)). Mention the fact that Link is a legendary hero that reincarnates several times in the history of his world etc, and that his bio is therefore different for each game and so on. As for Mario, mind what I said about wikipedia and the information that can be found there. You don't need to write a whole lot about him, I mean.
2. I understand the links are a problem when making the bio pages, but we'll focus more on that later on. We need the actual bio texts anyway, so we might just as well get started.
3. Make sure you keep track of where you find your information. If you run across any good fansites out there, keep the URL's around somewhere, we could use them later.
Good Luck to all of you. If you find a character you would like to "claim", please say so here, so noone else picks it and does the same work to no use.
And since we're going to stick this bugger into the message board as topics, should I just type it into here or copy from word?
I'm not sure I know what you're saying... If you're planning on posting entire bios in this thread, yeah, I guess that's ok. At least for right now. Ideally, we would have one thread for each mascot, but that would mean having our own forum (like, general, judges decisions, remixing, mascot bios), and right now, that doesn't seem possible. Hopefully this will be possible later on, but it'd need some serious action from the people who run the site, which is something we can't really expect until we show them we're actually getting somewhere.
Myself, I guess I could go with the Mega Men for the time being. Those of you who know the less commonly known characters would probably do best to claim them. Kungfuchicken said he knows every one of them, so if there's one you don't know at all, leave it to him for now.

Should we upload our projects (for this one, big project) onto the web somewhere so that the editor (whomever that may be) can collect, sort, and organize the info? It would be rather hard to type all that information and put it in the layout you suggested into these tiny little post boxes... 8)

You can use http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Characters_(Chrono_Trigger) for the CT characters. Those bios are the most complete and detailed available.

Yeah, I was trying to explain that to DarkeSword. I already mentioned I'd prefer having one thread per character, as you know, and each bio on a page that allows for more formatting and code than an ordinary forum post - like a html page within the forum post. Since there are threads containing over 1200 posts in the site projects forum, however, I don't think he's too bothered. If you can come up with a better solution than the current one, I'm all for it. It'd need to be accessible - but not editable - to everyone if it's to be very effective. This is partially why I wanted a team to work with instead of having just everyone posting stuff all over the place. I need help organizing this

Well, if we are able to get more formatting and code it could definately be possible, keep me up to date on that. Otherwise, if that's not possible, then perhaps we'll have to find some other means of uploading it onto the net.

As for any and all suggestions regarding the forums - we are strongly considering migrating the forums to vbulletin 3.5 when a final build is released. PHPBB has been subject to numerous security exploits, but more importantly, development on it is so far backlogged and moves at such a fantastically slow pace that I feel it's holding our site back. vBulletin will allow for sub-forums, enhanced moderation, better WYSIWYG editing of posts, etc., and with the new version especially is much easier to extend and customize in a normalized, repeatable, upgradeable fashion.
There may be light in the other end of the tunnel, friends. I hope it will allow us to do the things I mentioned above. *hopes really throbbing-vein-on-forehead hard*

I call Bomberman, The Prince, and Link (Windwaker bio).
And if Link with Windwaker bio is taken or it is too little a task, I'll take Toad http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot39.jpg

Can we copy and paste bios with the link of the original text next to it? I'm not going to do that with what I've chosen, but it's for the information of the harder-to-write-bios of some mascots.

First off, there's no need to claim 3 characters at once. Second, Link is already claimed, that picture is from LA or something, not WW, and I don't want a separate bio for each of the Zelda games, not even on the same page. Supreme Spleen, since you claimed Link first, it falls upon you to write a bio that connects the games by mentioning what the games' stories and plots have in common and what they do not. Notable exceptions and various examples are welcome. I really don't see the point in writing several paragraphs on how Link grew up in every single game in the series, nor do I want us to provide that. That is for specialized Link/Zelda/whatever fansites to provide.
As for Bomberman, good job on looking up his every game! Does he really not appear in one single game that doesn't carry his name? Anyway, unless you've looked at a million sites to look all of those games up, I'd really want you to post url's to where you found the list info. And yes, that's what I want the list to look like, only when we're finished it'll be on the right hand side of the page. Also, I think it's be better if you sorted the games into consological groups, year of release for each game, etc. Like this:
Console A (Console groups in Alphabetical order)
Game 1 (YYYY) (Cronological order within console groups)
Game 2 (YYYY)
Console B
Game 1 (YYYY)
etc.
Right now you have three "Bomberman"s after the other and 5 in total on the list and you have no idea which one is which. Also, make sure you're not listing both Japanese and American titles as separate games.
When you're finished with your bio, please edit your own post instead of posting the bio somewhere else later. This will simplify our work, and is something I should write in the guidelines now that I think of it. Don't forget to look up links to good Bomberman fansites, and hopefully, some official bomberman/manufacturer site. The names of the manufacturers should then be links to their sites.
EDIT: I have been thinking about the game lists. Maybe I'm just being stupid but it sort of feels like we'd be better off with list of games that are remixed than listing every single game a character's been in. Opinions?

I'll do. Just to make sure it ends up being the way I want it to be. :) Honestly, I understand some of my instructions might be a little bit... unclear. I shall therefore as soon as possible post a bio that everyone can use as a reference (I was planning on a Mega Man one). Also, I and Surpreme Spleen have agreed that it might be a better idea to list only games that have remixes on the site instead of a full game list. Just because they're not on the list, however, doesn't mean we don't mention them.
If they're not already taken, I'd do some of the Sonic charries. Nonetheless, interesting to see you're going to shine a light on the project "mascots", I see :)
I think it is very important to list all of the games the character has been in. Maybe the ones that have remixes could be highlighted or marked.

I don't think it's that important at all. Selected games would be fine. Look at that Bomberman post. He's been in way too many games. Four or five games that the mascot has been in would be better. There's no need to add on all that extra bloat.

The list of games featuring Mario would be about five miles long.
Dafydd

Maybe the ones that have remixes could be highlighted or marked. This was the original idea, but then... Bomberman. And then I thought "Mario... hmm. :? ... 8O ". The list of games featuring Mario would be about five miles long. So that's why I thought of not listing every single one. Mario... How many games has he been in, really? ... nevermind. We'll do without. But I still want all games with remixes on the lists, even if that character only shows up in an easter egg. Maybe that would be too difficult, but I'd want it.
As for Rexy, go ahead. Anyone is allowed to make bios, but I will give you no guarantee that they will actually be used in the end. Also, if a character has been taken doesn't mean you're not allowed to help out. I just didn't want several people wasting their time on the same character independently. Initially, however, I'd prefer to see that the bios are being made by one person at a time. We'll get complicated later. If you want to know if a character has been taken, and don't feel like reading through the whole thread, just search for the characters name within the thread. Sonic hadn't been mentioned before you did, so he wasn't taken yet. Good luck. I still need to work on my Mega Man bio.

Wow, you really worked hard on the bomberman thingy. Maybe we could have a link to your full list, but not have it printed out like that on the main bio page. Just so you haven't done all that work for nothing I mean.

List one game each character was in from one system. For example, you would list one Mario game for the NES, one for the SNES, one for the N64, etc.
That would just trim down a lot IMO.

Ok, sorry for the long wait. Here comes an experimental character bio. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Obviously, if there's anything in here that's really WRONG, please tell me.
Doom Trooper
id Software (http://www.idsoftware.com)
1993
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot71.jpg
Little is known about the Doom Trooper, especially for being the main character of one of the most widely known computer games series ever - Doom. *To be removed* The first game in the series was a 3D shooter released when PC gaming was considered a geek thing, and when 3D gaming was something most people had never even heard of. Its relatively massive amount of relatively realistic and raw depictions of violence and gore made parents and authorities furious when it was released in 1993, and it *new stuff* Most know him by little other than the sound of his voice, the smile on his face whenever he fires his gun, the blood under his nose when he starts to feel beat up, and the green of his spacesuit whenever a level has been completed. The series has been accused of being the source of inspiration for many violent acts over the past decade since the release of "Doom" in 1993. The game was a success, however, and a sequel was released only the following year. After a long wait of ten years, an acclaimed threequel, Doom 3, featuring a re-telling of the original story, was released.
A marine transferred to a radioactive waste facility on Mars after assaulting a superior officer, the Doom trooper spent his days watching movies, until, one day, the inter-space gateways between Mars' moons started spitting out monsters into the bases there. Being part of the only military force on the planet, he was sent up to defend what he could - and that's where you come in.
The Doom Trooper has found his niche in his own series and has only been found in one other place - in a secret area in Duke Nukem 3D.

Pretty long run-on sentence. Other than that, the bio does a good job in covering most of the basics. After all, the Doom trooper is not exactly the deepest character.

Quoted for emphasis. Not to step on DS or Dafydd's toes, but would it be helpful to cross-promote the project and bring more people aboard that way, say at GameFAQs or GamingForce? What about locating/contacting reputable fan-sites to see if you can copy some bios (and of course include the appropriate linkage back to them)? What about using Wikipedia? It seems like a rough deal trying to handle this with anything less than 10-12 dedicated people.

Er... yes. Especially since everyone on the team until now seem to have forgotten about something called school and are all now nibbling on our dedicated OCR hours to, in a sense, securing our economical future. Hm. Not to mention our genetical legacy. :-D Anyway, yeah, I need more people to help me out, obviously. I'm very aware of the current situation and the need for a change. Being a coordinator, not to mention a mere project member, is proving to be more difficult than I thought. I need to get my daily schedule sorted out better. To anyone who reads this, ANYONE is welcome to post bios. My job, I still think, is to moderate those bios to fit a certain concept, not to single-handedly write every one of them. And at least two positions on the main team are open. Come and fetch.
Well yeah, I should have finished this sooner but I still have something to slip in nonetheless. Apologies O.o
Sonic the Hedgehog
SEGA (http://www.sega.com)
1991
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot8.jpg
Sonic is the mascot character for SEGA (replacing Alex Kidd in 1991), thus having featured in a series of videogames established by said videogame corporation. The games were often seen going head-to-head against those of Nintendo's Mario series from the first game's exposure through to SEGA's departure from the console market, and since then Sonic's adventures were moved onto other consoles. Most gamers know him by his cobalt blue body, his faster-than-the-speed-of-sound running and his rolling jump and spinning attacks. Sonic also doesn't have one set timeline; several variations of his story were seen since the first game's release, whether seen in the earlier titles, the comic strips, publications in the US/UK, the movie, its 4 TV shows or the post-Sonic Adventure titles.
The basic storyline for the games themselves show Dr Ivo Robotnik (later referred as Dr Eggman from Sonic Adventure onwards) developing a scheme to take over the world, and it's up to Sonic to put a stop to him by going through many levels (often referred to as "acts") to reach his goal. On top of that, collecting the Chaos Emeralds (usually seven) in the game's "Special Stages" would bring the player to the game's good ending sequences.
Within his time, Sonic was shown to have surprassed Mario on various occasions, and has even showed light cameos in other SEGA exclusives and an episode of The Simpsons, as well as having a fruit fly embryonic development gene named after him.

Toad
Nintendo (www.nintendo.com)
1985
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot39.jpg
Toad hails from the Super Mario Bros. series of games. He is a citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom and is a retainer of its royal family, of which the famous Princess Toadstool is a member. In Japan he is known as "Kinopio."
Toad first appeared in Super Mario Bros., greeting Mario after all but the last of the boss battles with Bowser. His recurrent words at these points in the game are now famous: "Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle!"
He first appeared under the name "Toad" as a playable character in Super Mario Bros. 2. His agility, weak jumps, and swiftness in picking up objects made him unique among the other playble characters.
Toad's personality is elaborated upon in Super Mario 64 (http://www.ocremix.org/game/59) and Mario Kart 64 (http://www.ocremix.org/game/264) (N64, 1996). In the former, he offered help and advice to Mario as he explored Princess "Peach" Toadstool's nearly deserted castle, and in the latter his voice was heard a number of times. In each, he is childishly peppy and encouraging, virtually never showing an unhappy moment; this is evident in his cries of "yahoo!" during races in the latter and his constant, energetic hopping in the former.
In many games in which he appears, Toad is a non-player character, much like Princess Toadstool. Indeed, he is found often at the Princess's side playing a similar role in gameplay.
Toad's soft, goofy appearance and delightful disposition make him a hallmark of the Super Mario Bros. series.

A glorious thanks to your contribution. Again, it doesn't really matter that the bio isn't perfect - I know mine isn't. We will moderate it to fit the model bio later on. It seems good enough for now. I added the game company link and year of "birth". I really don't have time to change the game names into links just yet.

Since most of my team seems to have deserted me, I guess you could take any one you want. I may be somewhat picky on a Zelda bio or such, however (for reasons mentioned a few pages ago). Other than that, pick anyone you like. I'd prefer to see some coverage on the less-commonly known characters, but for now, you can just dig and pick at will. Remember, we're in the collecting stage, and any submission is welcome. Just remember it's all subject to moderation etc. Post, post, post!

Okay, here we go.
Diddy Kong
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1994
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot60.jpg
Diddy Kong was originally a Rare created character for the hit SNES game Donkey Kong Country, where he took the role as Donkey Kong’s friend and sidekick. After losing their banana horde to the vile Kremlings, headed up by King K. Rool, both Diddy and Donkey went on an adventure across DK Island to reclaim their treasure.
In his games, Diddy can be viewed as the equivalent to Luigi from the Mario franchise- less powerful than the main protagonist Donkey, but a faster and more flexible character in terms of movement.
Since the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy Diddy has gone on to star in many other games as either a cameo or one of the main characters, the most iconic of which would be Rare’s Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. In this game Diddy had a whole new franchise created around him, also featuring the debut of other important characters such as Banjo and Conker. Diddy also had a main role to play in Donkey Kong 64 in 1999, the spiritual sequel to the Country series, alongside Donkey Kong and company.
After Microsoft’s takeover of Rare in 2002, Diddy Kong has been used in games by Nintendo and its companies, such as Mario’s sport games in the GameCube, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Mario Power Tennis. Namco has used him in their Donkey Konga series. His original series, the Country games, have also been resurrected by Nintendo and Rare on the Game Boy Advance.

Joanna Dark
RARE (www.rareware.com)
2000
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot46.jpg
Joanna Dark is a highly skilled secret agent working for the Carrington Institute, the heroine of Rare’s gritty cyberpunk game franchise Perfect Dark. Her codename, of which the game is named after, comes from the fact that she passed her training missions with such finesse that the creation of a higher training grade was necessary. As of the initial game in the Perfect Dark franchise, Joanna is 23 years and 2 months old.
The first game in the series, Perfect Dark, was released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000 and told of Joanna’s first assignment as a Carrington agent. She is presented with the task to find and extract Dr Caroll from the headquarters of multinational corporation dataDyne undetected and unharmed. With the advent of new information about the shady dataDyne company, however, both Joanna and the Carrington Institute eventually discover a vast scheme that will determine the fate of the human race.
Joanna often works closely with her comrades and fellow agents such as Jonathan, a more experienced agent than Joanna who infiltrates dataDyne’s bases to gain inside information. Daniel Carrington, the founder of Carrington Institute and Joanna’s superior, oversees missions carried out by the CI agents and communicates with unexpected allies throughout the first game.
The Perfect Dark franchise, described as the spiritual successor to Rare’s classic GoldenEye 007, is small overall but has garnered reverence throughout the gaming community due to its enthralling single player story and open ended multiplayer mode, which still holds up today in some aspects. A prequel to the original, titled Perfect Dark Zero, was a launch title for the Xbox 360.

Thanks! Again, I can't stress this times enough, ALL bios are subject to moderation, so if it ends up being somewhat different from your original one, well...
To be honest, your bio was a little too much about the game, and too little about Mega Man. There's 5 rows on the game and how successful it was and only one or two lines on who Mega Man really is. More story, more descriptions of the actual gameplay. It's also pretty short for being about such an important and well-known character. I had a Mega Man bio going on myself but I thought it wasn't good enough for posting... Anyway. Please edit it somewhat to fit the guidelines given here. It needn't be perfect, but it'd save us a lot of work if you only helped us a wee bit more in that direction. Thank you.

Yeah... better. But it's still too focused on little details like Roll and Bassanium - there's no mentioning of the more important elements of the Mega Man series, like the robot masters or Mega Man's rather unique ability to gain the powers of his slain enemies, nor who Dr. Wily is, and nothing about Mega Man X (yes, he'll have his own bio, but he should be mentioned somewhere in his younger brother's one, but not in his games list!) - and so on.
You know what,
just let it slide for a while. Mega Man is one of the more difficult characters to write about, because there's so much information and no knowing what to tell and what not to. Try another character, I'd especially appreciate one on a more obscure character that few people know anything about. Maybe you do! You mentioned Ness... or try to finish the Bomberman Bio that someone started a few pages back. Good luck!

There is a drawback: Site Projects doesn't get as much readership as Gen Disc. Just an observation.

Aight this is my bio STRIDERCapcom 1989http://worldzero.com/images/ECDstrider.jpgStrider is a sidescrolling arcade game created in 1989 by Capcom. You took the role as a futuristic Ninja, known as Hiryu, or to some as Strider Hiryu. The object of the game was to travel the globe (From the rooftops of Moscow, to the jungles of the Amazon, and even to a space Station high above the blue skies) The mission of the game, was to kill the evil Entity Grandmaster Meio, that watched Earth from a far off Galaxy...He decided to rule it, and has made a Space Station between Earth and the Moon known as the "Third Moon" Hiryu had to fight countless of warriors (From animals, robots, humans, and even Amazon women!) The sword that Hiryu wield, is a plasma sword known as a Cipher called "Falchion" It moved so fast, that everytime you swung the Cipher, it appeared as a crescent moon. The game also had power-ups (From Health, and making your Cipher stronger) But, the most unique power-ups were 2 robotic allies: A Leopard and a Hawk. The game was ported to over many home video game systems. The best one, and perhaps the most famous, is the 8-Meg Geneis Version. Yes, there was a NES Version of Strider, but it had nothing to do with the Arcade one. Hiryu was the youngest Strider to ever reach A-Rank. He is an expert assassin, and it is said that no one is more skilled with a cipher. He fights like a fierce God, displaying the skills of an A-Rank Strider clearly, while remaining calm and collected. Also, Hiryu did leave the Striders for a while, but this peaceful life didnt remain for long...As he was once pulled back in the dark world of the Striders There is one known Strider Remix on OC ReMix Sega Genesis Strider (1990) Source http://lscmainframe.topcities.comhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strider_(arcade_game) Myself

Maybe this is the moderator's job, I don't know, but Physchotic_Ninja - There is a number of things I'd like to point out about your contribution;
1. Is the character's name "Strider", "Hiryu", or "Strider Hiryu"? The name on top should be the character's name, not the name of the game he was in (unless they are both the same)
2. Please do not use images taken from other sites. Use the mascot images found on page 1 in this thread.
3. Please make links out of the URL:s, and the names of the games remixed, and the company name, so you can click them and end up at the URL / game remixes page / company website.
4. The bio text is full of tense changes and sentences lacking periods, making it difficult to read and enjoy. This also applies to the fact that detailed info is merged together with basic info in a most unsatisfying way.
Try to leave out less important stuff like "It moved so fast, that everytime you swung the Cipher, it appeared as a crescent moon" and "...and it is said that no one is more skilled with a cipher. He fights like a fierce God, displaying the skills of an A-Rank Strider clearly, while remaining calm and collected." Not only is it overkill info that might be better off on a dedicated fansite for this character, but it also feels like something that was written to impress a 12-year old.
The reaction the project aims to give the readers is something like "oh, so THAT's how it is..." rather than "Dude, awesome!" and to be an appetizer that includes links to the main dish (and perhaps not the dessert) rather than a full dinner. :) The links at the bottom are there not only for verification purposes, but also so that people who are really interested in finding out more about the character can do so without having to do the tedious work of finding a good fansite.
Also, try to avoid things like "Yes, there was a NES Version of Strider, but it had nothing to do with the Arcade one" and try something like "There was also a NES version of Strider, but it was a whole new game rather than a port."
This; "Hiryu did leave the Striders for a while, but this peaceful life didnt remain for long...As he was once pulled back in the dark world of the Striders" on the other hand, gives the reader too little info. I'm left with the questions "how?" and "why?"
6. Try to use a somewhat more structured... structure. First, introduce the character - who is he, what are his weapons and friends etc. Then, try to summarize the background behind the game without spoiling the entire storyline. I realize it's difficult, but I know you can to better than this.

HIRYU
CAPCOM (http://www.capcom.com/)
1989
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b290/adam_is_strider_hiryu/ocr4_mascot3.jpg
Hiryu is a ninja from the year 2048 A.D. He is in the Striders, an organazation that are the strongest secret maneuvers group in the world. The youngest Strider ever to reach the A-Rank, Hiryu is an expert Assassin and is very quick at killing his target. Even though he has saved Earth a couple of times, he never did it by himself. He had help from his Allies which were other Striders or Robots. But, the allie that never leaves his side and he can trust the most is his cipher, Falchion. The cipher is a sword that most Striders have, they are very quick and powerful in the hands of a good wielder.
Hiryu, was the hero of an 1989 Sidescrolling arcade platform known as Strider. The player that had controlled Hiryu, had to travel around the world (From the roofs of Kafazu, to the jungles of the Amazon, and to a space station.) In search of an evil entity from a far off galaxy known as, Grandmaster Meio. Each level is loaded with powerful enemies (From humans, to robots, and even to Amazon women) and at the end is a boss. It is up to you, THE PLAYER, to get Hiryu through this hard mission. The game has been ported to many systems, but the SEGA Genesis port is perhaps the most famous. There was a NES Version of Strider, but it was a whole new game rather than a port.

Chocobo
Squaresoft
1988
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot130.jpg
A chocobo is a large flightless bird, strong enough to carry a fully grown human, making this bird a perfect way to travel. They prefer living in forests but can also be found a little bit of everywhere. It´s very timid in the wild and can be vicious if it´s threatened, but can actually be very easily tamed. Greens are one of their favorite food, that´s why you can in some games call on them by using greens.
The chocobo´s first appearance was in Final Fantasy 2, where you could find it hiding in a forest and then use it to travel on the world map without bumping into enemies. For each Final Fantasy game that was made, the chocobo got a bigger and bigger role. In some games you could either train or breed it to get chocobos with other abililties, from climbing over mountains and swimming over the seas to flying high in the sky. From starting as a minor character, the chocobo has quickly changed to be one of the most favored in the FF-series.

Much better, p_n! I fixed some minor spelling errors and stuff - but there are still a number of sentences that could be written with more fluency. If you don't feel like trying yourself, leave it the way it is and I'll try to do it myself. But it's a great improvement from the first! Also, in your case, since you only have one game listed, you might as well list the games mentioned at the end of your bio in the games list instead, since he's an important character in those games and not just doing a small cameo appearance. Or is he? :whatevaa:
Bummerdude, consider shortening the list of FF games. Chocobo's been in so many games that are covered already... Maybe you could move the games that are not yet covered into the end of the bio instead (like I just told p_n not to  ), and just mention that Chocobo has been other games than the FF series, that he has a few games named after him and so on. Don't, however, remove any covered games from the list unless Chocobo's actually in them. Also, in your bio it says it first showed up in FF2, but you listed FF1 in the appearances list? I know there's a lot of confusion about the numbering of the FF games, but unless you've just made a mistake (i.e. you didn't intend to put FF1 on the list at all), a short explanation might help "straighten some question marks out". And I'd appreciate if you'd handle your links like p_n did (company + source links).
To both of you, if you can, try to find another (good) fansite or two to put in the links/sources list at the bottom (even if you didn't actually use them as sources). Thank you for your contributions to the project! If you want to write more bios, go ahead.

I edit my post, I did what you told me. Added one more source and added the games he has appeared in, under the game list. Oh yeah, im gonna let you write the senteces with more fluency. I am also planning to do a couple of more bios.

CAPCOM (http://www.capcom.com/)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b290/adam_is_strider_hiryu/ocr4_mascot81.jpg
Vega is a Spanish nobleman and a psychotic masked killer. He knows he is the best, and isnt afraid to tell anyone (Or even better, prove it to you) He likes himself and other beautiful things. But, hates all ugly things and thinks they should all die. Vega is a very skilled fighter, as he combines Bull Fighting, Ninjitsu, and Claw fighting into one fighting technique. Vega himself, a former matador, is very fast on his feet, and moves constantly while fighting. He wears a three-tined claw on his left hand, which makes him even more deadly when he fights. But, he has one weakness: If you bruise, mark, or scar his face, he will go into a blind fit of rage. This rage will make him strike his opponent without thinking and leaving himself open to attacks
Vega was a boss character in the 1991 game Steet Fighter. As the opponents defeated all the normal characters, they would face 4 "boss" characters. One of these was Vega and he was difficult to defeat. As the player would face him he would constantly jump, move, and attack quickly. He wasn't playable in the original Street Fighter II game. But, when Street Fighter II: Champion Edition and the rest of the installments of SFII came out, he was playable, along with the other bosses. When he became playable, he was a fan favorite, as the player could use his speed and claw to their advantage.

Deku Link
Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com)
2000
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot118.jpg
Deku Link is really the hero Link, of The Legend of Zelda series, transformed by a mischievous Skull Kid into a plantlike form (that of a "Deku Scrub") by the power of Majora's Mask.
Upon meeting the Happy Mask Salesman, Link learns the Song of Healing from him. This magical tune returns him to his former Hylian form and transmogrifies the unnatural Deku Scrub form into a mask.
Using the mask at will, Link later becomes Deku Link again to use the expanded abilities the alternate form grants him. These include projecting bubbles, temporary flight, skipping across water, and masquerading as one of the true Deku Scrubs in their own domain. However, Deku Link is critically vulnerable to fire and cannot dive into water.

This project has a huge scope, and I really hope that it doesn't break down, putting all this work to waste.
Would it be wise, do you think, to implement the project piecemeal? As each character's bio is written, perhaps it can be integrated into the site, so that it will generate more publicity and people will know that their work is actually becoming realized.

As a general rule, try to find other sources to go along with the wikipedia pages or we could just link the reader away instead of having bios on the site. That would suck. :| I'm going to comment further on your bios once I've straightened out what it is that I don't like about them. :)!!

Much as I'd love to, that's not really for me to decide. The way I'd want it to be is rather dependent on the vbullentin system that is, if I'm not mistaken, in progress of replacing the phpBBB one on this site. The new system would enable me, and others, to create sub-threads within threads, and that way, we could have one thread for each character. That would simplify things.
It would also mean that we could, when someone clicks a mascot, direct them to a page that contains the bio and where people could comment on the bio and or suggest improvements to it etc. If someone clicks a mascot that hasn't had a bio written for it yet, there could be a message that says "No one has written a bio for this mascot yet! Do you want to write a bio now?" And then you could click yes and be forwarded to the bio instructions page and - well, you get the idea.
Unfortunately, this is not possible - yet. But I agree, we need some kind of advertisement beyond my sig image.

2002
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot129.jpg
Character Summary:
Sora, translating into "sky" from Japanese, is the result of a unique blend between the styles of Disney and Final Fantasy. He was designed by Tetsuya Nomura, the designer of many popular Final Fantasy characters, and voice casted by Miyu Irino in the Japanese version and by Haley Joel Osment in the English one.
First revealed as the hero of Kingdom Hearts, Sora is introduced as a fourteen year old from Destiny Island who is separated from his friends and home when his world is attacked by the Heartless: creatures born of the darkness in peoples' hearts. Naive but cheery, Sora journeys through various worlds with Donald Duck and Goofy in search of his friends and a way to stop the darkness that's consuming the hearts of people and their worlds using the keyblade.
Since his premier role, Sora has starred in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and his story will continue a year after the events of Kingdom Hearts in the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts II, which is expected to debut early 2006.

A'ight, so I think this project is a good idea, but it's dying. Honestly it's lacking organization and it's getting caught up on minor details. Now that I've finally read the entire thread here's what I think.
Darkesword mentioned creating one locked mascot thread that had each mascot in it, that one or two people could moderate and move bios into. I'd say that's simple and effective enough for right now. You could simply copy the bios straight out of this thread into each of the corresponding 120 posts on that thread, giving the contributer(s) credit. If people thought any of them were inaccurate or felt like writing new ones, they'd post in this thread and the moderator, prolly Dafydd but whoever else would be willing to do it, would consistently check this thread and move bios into the official locked one, or make changes as seemed necessary. Moderators would just format and moderate the official thread itself based on reading input from this thread.
What Dafydd seems to have been getting at was to have a thread dedicated to each individual mascot and allow people free reign on posting under the bio with comments about the bio. I think that would take much more effort to regulate if people could comment under every mascot. They should just do it in here methinks.
I would personally love to get as involved as I can in this project to see it get going, so what do you think?

Having one post for every mascot in one giant bio thread could work, I guess. That's just about what we're doing now. About the thing dying, well, it's been dead ever since school started and my team quit on me. Unfortunately, school started for me, too, and I've been trying to keep this thing running since - along with my own life, and it's been difficult, as you can tell from the infrequency of my posts. If you wanna help, I'm not stopping you. One problem though - where's this bio thread of yours going to end up? In the site projects' forum? That could work. It'd be much more easy to maintain than the current way we're running things. And - yeah, I was kind of day-dreaming when suggesting one thread for every bio - we're never gonna have that many people visiting us and commenting anyway.
As suggested above, clicking the mascots on the site header could have the following consequence:
If someone clicks a mascot that hasn't had a bio written for it yet, there could be a message that says "No one has written a bio for this mascot yet! Do you want to write a bio now?"
This could work using posts instead of threads as well. This would be an excellent way to advertise the project.
As for getting caught up on details; I was instructed to ensure that this project and its bios maintain a certain level of quality that goes well along with the standards of this site (good English, correct spelling etc. (even though my English isn't perfect either, I give you that)). The judges are where they are because no one will be happier if all submitted remixes are accepted onto the site - it'll just make it more difficult to find something enjoyable to listen to and it will befoul the site's reputation. I'm here micro-managing people's bios because
a) if the bios stunk, that would make the site look bad as a whole and the whole project would be a waste of time.
b) if I just told people "no, your bio stinks" they wouldn't try again, and there wouldn't be any bios written. Thus, I have to tell people exactly what's wrong with their bios before I can give them the green light.
c) I can't write all the bios myself, because I don't know who the mascots are and never played the games they're in, which is why I started the original thread to start with.
If you wanna help, you're more than welcome - especially if you're not buried under as many books as I am.

I'd say, you definately need to figure out a perfect bio, that you can put on the first page of this thread and people can use as reference for their bios. Then go ahead and edit grammer on posts like you've done and make sure the organization is constant on every bio.
So, here's another one... I'm not feeling quite as good about this one, but whatever. Feedback's appreciated and edit as you feel necessary.

The Turks
Square-Enix (http://www.square-enix.com/)
1997
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot128.jpg
Character Summary:
While the origin of the name "Turks" is unknown, in their first appearance in Final Fantasy VII they represent a special division of the ShinRa Electric Power Company designated mostly to carry out president Rufus' dirty work. They build an interesting relationship with the main heroes of FF7, where they are many times ordered to do one thing, and act differently based on whether they're enjoying their vacation too much or feel as if they're employers are a lost cause, joining forces with the party. Though they are Rufus' dogs they are dynamic characters who many people appreciate after playing FF7. Tetsuya Nomura's design of the Turks along with all other major characters in Final Fantasy VII first brought him into the video game industry.
From left to right above, the Turks consist of...
Elena - The only female Turk in FF7, she's the newest recruit added to their ranks because of Reno's injuries earlier in the game during the sector plate collapse. She's rather shallow and inexperienced at her newly appointed job.
Tseng - Tseng is the serious, persistent leader of the Turks. He disappears for the second half of the game after a scene where he nearly gets killed by Sephiroth.
Rufus - Not actually a Turk, but the newly appointed president of ShinRa following his father's death. He intends to control the world by fear and, in the process, attempts to harvest power out of the very life of the world of FF7, the life-stream.
Rude - A long-time friend of Reno's, Rude has very few speaking moments in FF7. He's notable mostly by his sunglasses...
Reno - The most prominent of the Turks, he's rather arrogant but lazy. Has a lasting vendetta with Cloud and the heroes of FF7 after they leave him injured near the beginning of the game.
Within the past year, Square-Enix has revealed multiple titles of movies, cell-phone games, novels, animes, and playstation games that may or may not include the Turks. The ones below are the currently confirmed.

Leon Belmont

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b290/adam_is_strider_hiryu/ocr4_mascot7.jpg
Leon is a noble 11th century knight, and the youngest known Belmont in any Castlevania game to date. He was a warrior without fear and fought in the name of God, this made him a great warrior. But, as time passed his bride, Sara Trantoul, was kidnapped by the vampire Walter Bernhard. This forced him to go into the forest of the "Eternal Night" and seek the vampire out in his castle. As he arrived he was gave a whip made of Alchemy (which would later become the "Vampire Killer" which all the other Belmonts would use in the future) Leon is quite possibly the ancestor to all the other Belmonts who appeared through out the series of Castlevania.
During the gameplay of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, you would start out with Leon Belmont.(Other characters could be unlocked, after one finish the game) As players controlled Leon Belmont you could use whips, spells, potions, and various other equipment you find through out the castle. Also, the only way to progress through out the game and explore more levels, was to fight the 5 castle guardians. After the 5 castle guardians would be defeated the door to the last boss would finally open.

A long bio is not at all necessarily better than a short one, p_n. I.e. You're right. Your bio on Leon was much better than the one before that, I think, especially since you stayed with one tense throughout most of the bio. We'll sort out the small things later. Also, I read a sentence in your bio earlier that sounded almost exactly as the one in the source. This might have happened in other's bios as well, but it's something that we should try to avoid if possible. Especially if the source is wikipedia :)!! (not that I mind wikipedia as such, I just don't want us to end up seeming like a wikipedia mirror site).

Vivi Ornitier
Square-Enix (http://www.square-enix.com/)
2000
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot26.jpg
Character Summary:
As a younger main character of Final Fantasy IX, Vivi is perhaps the most appreciated. His design is taken directly from the generic black mages in the first Final Fantasies, which had since disappeared in the newest ones. Final Fantasy IX is incredibly different compared to the other recent Final Fantasies in that it takes gamers back to the roots of Final Fantasy with a more playful plot than the others, and it takes place in a nostalgic fantasy world. Thus, the characters are not too customizable and have set classes you can't change, there are no handguns or helicopters or complex machines from the world today, the characters are more playfully designed and unrealistically young, and much of the game alludes to something from past Final Fantasies - such as Vivi.
In the game, Vivi is a clumsy childish character who is naive to world around him, but wise in dealing with the challenges in it. Vivi's conflict involves his search for identity after he learns early on in the game he was not born but actually produced as a tool for war. His conflict continues as he searches for answers about life and death, and free will and fate. He's revered by normal people to be an extremely powerful black mage, and also plays a key role in your party during the game as the only user of magic such as Fire, Ice, Thunder and others.
Vivi has only appeared in FF9 and most likely will be exclusive to it.

I've been hesitant to posting my own bios so far, mostly because I don't feel like I should complain on other's bios when my own aren't that great, either, but here's one... although it is admittedly a WiP, and very short, it is, at least, something to work with. Comments appreciated. Also, if anyone knows if F-Zero X Expansion Kit includes any appearances of Captain Falcon, please let me know...
I need some kind of opinions on how big a cameo must be for the game the character cameoed in to be listed in the appearances list. It doesn't feel like the fact that captain falcon's helmet appeared in Kirby Super Star is reason enough to put that game in his appearances list. But in Warioware, inc., you can play the entire F-Zero game! Bleh.
Captain Falcon
Nintendo (www.nintendo.com)
1990
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot100.jpg
A 26th century bounty hunter / hovercraft racer, Captain Falcon is one of Shigeru Miyamoto's many creations, and was first introduced to the gaming world in Nintendo's Mode7 racer "F-Zero (http://www.ocremix.org/game/89/)", one of the first SNES games ever to be released. Even though the game allows the player to choose from 4 different characters - each with their own hovercraft - Captain Falcon with his Blue Falcon is really the protagonist, or main character, of the game - he is even fortunate enough to have his own short comic in the game manual. A man of somewhat inflated self-confidence, he likes to think of himself as someone who kicks ass both on and off the track, and has stayed that way throughout the now long-running F-Zero series, except in the GBA release, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, where none of the original F-Zero characters were featured. Captain Falcon is also a playable character in Nintendo's all-character get-together - the Super Smash Bros series, and he, parts of him and/or his hovercraft have made small cameos in a variety of Nintendo games, such as Kirby Superstar, Super Mario RPG and Pokémon Stadium 2. He also stars in the F-Zero cartoon series "The Legend of Falcon" created in 2003.

Lemming
PSYGNOSIS (http://www.psygnosis.org/)
1991
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot95.jpg
There is no one lemming that stands out in Psygnosis’ famous strategy series, no main character per se. Legions of the little green haired freaks attended to your every command in getting to their final destination, a small portal that supposedly led to better places. Incidentally, this game formula turned out to be highly successful, several games magazines of the time awarding it maximum review scores, and as such the lemming character has many a fond place in player’s hearts. Well, either that or laughing after blowing them up.
In getting these small creatures where they wanted to go, several different abilities were at the player’s disposal. One could assign a lemming to build a bridge of stairs, dig through the terrain in their way, even commit suicide for the good of their group. Great care had to given to the Lemmings as well, for if they unknowingly walked over a great cliff they would fall to their doom. To get all the lemmings to the other side of the level unharmed demanded a sharp mind and quick decisions. If enough had survived, the game would progress to the next level.
Lemmings’ originality briefly gave rise to a new genre, and inspired spin offs, either in game mechanics or art style. Team 17’s Worms series tips its hat to the simple 2D graphical style, and even Nintendo’s recent Pikmin games have a few things in common with the classic. Its popularity allowed Lemmings to be ported to many different systems, even some modern day remakes on handhelds.

Saria
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1998
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot125.jpg
Saria is a main character in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. A childhood friend of Link, she is one of the Kokiri tribe, a group of fairy folk whose beliefs tell that they will die if they leave Kokiri forest. Link being Hylian however caused a separation between the two early on in the game, Saria giving him the Fairy Ocarina as a memento. The two could communicate telepathically by playing Saria’s song.
After Link is sealed away for seven years in the Temple of Time, it becomes apparent that Saria is one of the seven Sages, that of the Forest. She is sealed away in the Forest Temple by Ganondorf, where Link ultimately comes to rescue her and receives the Forest Medallion as a token of her power. The Kokiri, being ageless, never grow old while Link matures during the game.
At the climax of Ocarina of Time, Saria combines her powers with those of the other Sages to seal Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm. It is presumed that the legend of Saria as a Sage lives on in the world of Hyrule, one of the towns in Adventure of Link named after her.
Saria as a character has only appeared in Ocarina of Time, but Saria’s Song has recently appeared in Super Smash Bros Melee.

Viewtiful Joe
CAPCOM (http://www.capcom.com/)
2003
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot112.jpg
"Henshin a go-go, baby!" says Joe, after being granted one of the magical V- Watches from his superhero idol Captain Blue. This allows the ordinary movie loving star of Capcom’s series to become his alter ego, Viewtiful Joe. A cross between comic books and Hollywood movies, the Viewtiful Joe titles have breathed fresh air into an otherwise stale genre of gaming, harking back to games such as River City Ransom and Double Dragon.
In the original of the series, Joe’s girlfriend Silvia was kidnapped by a bunch of ambitious silver screen villains whose intent was to extend their grip to the real world. In the two dimensional levels, the V- Watch allowed Joe to bend time, going into a Matrix inspired slow motion to dodge bullets and generally become more powerful. Mach speed was the opposite, turning him into an incredibly speedy trail of flame. The third power was Zoom, stopping most enemies in their tracks and giving Joe extra abilities.
The bosses that must be fought at the end of each stage are varied, but one in particular, Alastor, considers himself to be the hero’s nemesis. Nicknamed ‘The Midnight Thunderboy’, he uses lightning attacks and inspired Joe’s hero name.
The relative success for the originally GameCube exclusive title allowed the development of a sequel. This time around Silvia joined up with Joe in a tag team style gameplay mechanic. Being released for both GameCube and Playstation 2, Viewtiful Joe 2 mostly stuck to the formula that the original set down. Other titles have been released in the franchise- Battle Carnival being a multiplayer game inspired by Super Smash Bros Melee, and Double Trouble makes use of the DS’ touch screen to deliver a wider range of moves. An anime based on the game has aired on TV Tokyo and has been licensed for US distribution by Geneon.

Earthworm Jim
Shiny Entertainment (http://www.shiny.com/)/Virgin Interactive (http://www.virgin.com/)
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot59.jpg
Earthworm Jim was quite a new brand of hero, silly from the get-go. An ordinary earthworm, Jim lived day to day doing earthworm things, like eating dirt. Then, on one fateful day, a spacesuit (fully titled the ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit) dropped from the sky, falling onto Jim and transforming him into a large, strong, intelligent (at least by earthworm standards) super-hero. Armed with his trusy blaster, Jim quests to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name, who has been imprisoned by the evil Queen Slug-For-A-Butt. Jim also had a trusty sidekick, Peter Puppy, and together they battled enemies with such monikers as Bob the Killer Goldfish, Major Mucus, Evil the Cat, Psy-Crow and Professor Monkey-For-A-Head.
The first game, titled Earthworm Jim, was quite innovative at the time. The animation in the game was very high quality, and the silly theme was unique. Earthworm Jim was bestowed a variety of different abilities, such as using his head as a whip to swing across gaps. Doug TenNapel is responsible for Jim's design, as well as most of the major characters in the game, and Jim's own voice. The music, however, was solely the work of Tommy Tallarico.
Later along the road, an Earthworm Jim TV show and even comic series came to be.

Cammy White
Capcom (www.capcom.com)
1993
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b290/adam_is_strider_hiryu/ocr4_mascot17.jpg
Cammy, was a high ranking member in the crime organization known as, Shadaloo. She was one of M. Bison's higher ranked members and an assassin. She did anything that M. Bison told her to do, and never asked questions. However, it is revealed later on that, Cammy was created by Shadaloo using M. Bison's DNA. The only reason she was created was to become a future body host for, Bison. However, over time she broke free from the Mind Control and became independent. She was now useless and was supposed to be exterminated, however, Vega had saved her and dropped her off on the doorstep of the British paramilitary organization Delta Red. She then awakens with amnesia and later on joins Delta red and becomes the Cammy White that fights terrorists.
Cammy first appeared in the 1993 game, Super Street Fighter II, which was the fourth upgrade of the original Street Fighter II. Cammy was one of the 4 characters that was introduced into the game, and was the 2nd female to ever appear in a Street Fighter game. Cammy also had two main incarnations through out the series. Shadaloo Cammy is the loyal bodyguard and assassin of M. Bison. While the Delta Red Cammy is an English Secret Service Agent fighting terrorism and trying to make the world a better place.
Only one game that features Cammy has been remixed on OC Remix.

Bowser
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1985
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot25.jpg
Almost as famous as his arch nemesis Mario, King Bowser Koopa filled in the role of the standard ‘bad guy’ role in the Super Mario series of games. His one ambition- kidnap Princess Peach, and gaining full power of the Mushroom Kingdom. Bearing a grudge to Mario and friends, he never stops trying to usurp their position as victorious, though a few times he has teamed up with the crew, albeit reluctantly.
Bowser’s first appearance was in Super Mario Bros, as a boss at the end of every fourth level. Little character was given to him in this installment, a given due to the style of game, and technology of the time. In Super Mario Bros 3 further light was shed on the character, a change of appearance (his red mane) and the debut of his seven children, each a boss themselves. In the 3D platformers, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser's role was largely the same, though taller and more menacing than in previous games. Sunshine only had him play a small role.
Chronologically, Bowser’s first appearance in the series was Super Mario Bros, but his starring in the prequel Yoshi’s Island saw him as a baby being cared for by Kamek, a loyal underling of his army. Here Baby Luigi was captured by his cohorts, the Yoshi clan ultimately reuniting Baby Mario with his brother. After being beaten by the Yoshis, Kamek’s vow was to have revenge, a setup to the later games.
The Mario RPG series show Bowser in a different light, more if a comic relief to the game. Joining the player’s party in Super Mario RPG, Bowser constantly complained about the others hero like attitude to the quest- he was only in it to get his castle back, taken over by Smithy’s crew. In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, sections between the chapters allowed the player to control Bowser in recreations of levels from Super Mario Bros.
Bowser has appeared in many other games, most being spin offs of the Mario series such as Mario Kart, Mario Party and Super Smash Bros, either in playable form or bad guy posse. He fulfills the role of the heavyweight character in these titles.

M. Bison
Capcom (www.capcom.com)
1991
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b290/adam_is_strider_hiryu/ocr4_mascot89.jpg
M. Bison, was a martial artist who trained and learned how to use the Psycho Power. A type of power that allows him to fly, teleport, and create multiple images of himself. But, he wanted to be the strongest and best fighter in the world, so he could dominate it. He then created Shadaloo, a very powerful crime organization, and would soon start hiring other martial artists and soldiers. But, even he needed to become more powerful, so he had to master the Psycho Power. The only way he could master it was to expell his "good" side from his body, which eventually took the form of Rose. His body was eventually killed by detective Chun-Li, and Charlie. His soul then took control of Rose, untill Shadaloo could build him a new body. He then held the Second World Tournament, and during the finals of the tournament, Akuma jumped in and killed him with the Shun Goku Satsu.
M. Bison first appeared in the game Street Fighter II, as the final boss, but he was not playable at the time. But, once Street Fighter II: Champion Edition and the rest of the installments came out, him and the other boss characters became playable. Even though he first appeared in SFII, he was not as powerful as his Street Fighter Alpha 3 form, seeing as during SFII he did not have the Psycho Drive anymore. This could be the one reason, that Akuma, could of killed Bison with the Shun Goku Satsu.

How could this be? The Mascot Bio Project actually getting somewhere?
The bios coming out seem to be pretty comprehensive, this coming from someone who doesn't know many of the characters. Psychotic Ninja, it's just your grammar that you need to touch up on- some of your sentences seem disjointed, such as the last line in the M. Bison bio.
By my count, we've got 22 out 135 bios done (or at least started). Maybe when it's picked up more steam, though, the bios shouldn't be posted in the thread, for the same reason of songs kept secret in site projects until its unveiling. Thoughts?
EDIT- A friend of mine said he'd do Magus in a few days, so there's another one.

By the looks of it, it certainly has picked up steam during the last few days, thanks to a few heroic underlings of mine :) Some bios are better written than others, but it's nothing that can't be fixed. I haven't had the time to read them all through yet, but feel free to help each others out. P_N, you sometimes have some grammar issues, but your bios turn very well with a little help.
Watkinzez, I think I get your point but I'm not sure I can agree. Eventually all bios will have to be posted somewhere else, but I'd prefer to have as much publicity as possible. In a perfect world, we would be able to have finished bios moved to their final destination (a place to which people would be linked when clicking the mascots on top) even as the rest of the project is under way. This would hopefully attract even more underlings to my realm. :)!!
Anyway, I'm glad you are all posting bios and keeping the project alive, and I'm sorry for being unable to participate more actively for the time being. I will return with comments, and, possibly, corrections, shortly.

Ness
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1994
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot14.jpg
Given the fame of other various Nintendo characters, Earthbound’s hero Ness seems somewhat neglected, along with his game series. Though huge in Japan at the time of release (known as Mother 2), Earthbound saw little success in America and was not released in Europe or Australia, instead gathering a cult following.
The main character of the Super Nintendo classic, Ness is the complete opposite of the standard RPG hero- a young boy with a baseball bat and yoyo, though with an affinity for psychic powers. It is presumed that Ness was based off the stereotypical 1950’s American child, a timeframe which the game emphasizes and parodies. He peacefully lives in Onett, before he is intercepted by a bee like creature, Buzz Buzz. The messenger tells him of the malevolent entity Giygas, set to take over the world ten years in the future. Ness is informed of the quest he must take- travel to eight sanctuaries and collect the Sound Stone melodies, thereby giving him enough power to take on Giygas. Buzz Buzz is swatted dead by Pokey’s mother, a friend of Ness, soon after.
Ness is one of a party of four in Earthbound, the others being Paula, Jeff and Poo. Paula is hinted as a love interest for Ness in the game, the song ‘Smiles and Tears’ recounting Ness’ love regrets near the end of the game. Jeff is the intellectual type, helping repair gadgets for the party. Poo is a relative stranger from the far off country of Dalaam, highly trained in martial arts. It should be noted that Ness does not talk during the entirety of the game, and is somewhat ambiguous as a character.
After Earthbound was released Ness has been given little roles to play in video games, the only other appearance being Super Smash Bros and its sequel Melee, being an unlockable character and starter character in the respective games. Being from the same developer, HAL, many references are present in the character, stages and trophies to do with Earthbound, paying homage to what was and is a great character and game to identify with. A sequel, Mother 3, was a 2006 release in Japan, but did not include Ness as a character.

Agreed, Watkinzez you are a biography machine.
Mine is a bit to-the-letter of wiki for my taste... I will work on it for the other two bios.
Also, there was mention of using the Chrono Compendium for the CT character bios, and I think that should be taken under advisement. As much as I love CT, and would love to take on the CT chars, the only thing stopping me from doing the bios all right now overnight was looking over at the Chrono Compendium's work. It's more complete than I could hope for on a draft, polished, etc. So, although the characters are very popular, they have been covered, and quite well. More than wiki, because some wikis are simply too broad, like on EWJ up there.
My thoughts, that is all. Besides, you will likely have a ton of corrections on FF/CT chars anyway, better to use the (I assume) already collective input of the Compendium.
And I do have quite a bit of story for the DOOM man, but I am lax in my duties and typing it up is a bit...well it's not exactly action packed work.

Alex Kidd
SEGA (http://www.sega.com/)
1986
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot9.jpg
Before Sonic was even dreamed up by Naoto Ohshima and Yuji Naka, Alex Kidd effectively stood up as Sega’s first videogame mascot. Debuting on the ill fated Master System, the style of game that Alex Kidd starred in was designed much like Super Mario Bros, in an attempt to bring more users to the Master System brand. Overall, Kidd was made to fulfill the platform role- exaggerated aesthetic features to stand out, young age, and a somewhat animal inspired build.
Donning large pointy ears and the largest sideburns ever known to man, Kidd entered the game market with Alex Kidd in Miracle World, which eventually turned out to be a cult classic. The plot was simple- save Kidd’s brother from the rather evil Janken. While more focused on puzzle solving and strategic block smashing than the Italian plumber, the main things setting it apart was the difficulty (three lives to get through the game, extra lives rare), and the boss battles. These consisted of scissors paper rock matches, effectively deciding your fate on chance (though the enemy’s decision was in a set pattern). Another nice diversion was the inclusion of vehicles that Kidd could use, consisting of a motorcycle and helicopter, spicing up the gameplay somewhat.
After the original, Alex Kidd went on to create a miniature franchise. The Lost Stars, for both Master System and arcade, was a simplified version of the original, creating a faster game that emphasized more platform jumping than puzzle solving. High Tech World attempted to vary the action by having levels involving ninja combat. Alex even showed up on the Genesis in The Enchanted Castle, going back to a style more like Miracle World, with a few additions. His last adventure was back on the Master System, Shinobi World, effectively splicing the Kidd franchise with another of Sega’s, Shinobi.
The advent of Sonic the Hedgehog ended up with Sega dropping Alex as their mascot post 1990. While having missed out on such a wide audience that the NES and Mario had, Kidd still today holds a special place in people’s hearts and is remembered as a landmark videogame character.

The bio read both "Alex Kidd" and "Alex the Kidd" inconsistently, and so this has been fixed. Donkey Kong
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1981
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot15.jpg
Circa 1981, Nintendo employee Shigeru Miyamoto was entrusted with the task to make an arcade game fit for the American market. The result was a character that would stand the test of time, the one of the first games with a save the damsel in distress storyline. In Donkey Kong, the player actually controlled the character Jumpman (who later turned out to be Mario), attempting to save his girlfriend Pauline from the clutches of the giant ape. Named ‘Kong’ for ape and ‘Donkey’ for a slow stubborn nature, Nintendo’s first mascot actually came under fire from Universal for infringing on their King Kong copyright. Nintendo eventually won the case, even discovering that Universal didn’t even own the copyrights to Kong themselves. Donkey Kong went on to be remembered as the first platform game, and the first platform nemesis.
Two sequels were made for this series, Donkey Kong Junior had the player controlling DK’s son in an effort to save the ape from Mario. Donkey Kong 3 involved a spat between DK and a character called Stanley the Bugman in a greenhouse. At this time forward Nintendo decided to focus on Mario as their title character, and so Donkey Kong was laid to rest for a time.
Near the end of the SNES era, Donkey Kong returned in a big way. The Donkey Kong Country series established a whole new franchise around the character, creating a world, sidekicks, and adversaries. DK and his pal Diddy Kong set on a journey to recover their banana hoard from the evil King K. Rool. Rare’s unique humour spread across the franchise, spawning two more sequels, both of which Donkey was captured in and therefore not playable.
The Nintendo 64 title Donkey Kong 64 was also made by Rare, but had evolved to 3D in a style much like Super Mario 64 and their own Banjo Kazooie. The emphasis on item collecting made the game pale in comparison to the Country series, according to many fans. During this era DK starred in games such as Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. Donkey Kong Racing was planned for GameCube but was ultimately scrapped after Rare was bought by Microsoft. The DK name has since been used in a variety of titles, such as the Donkey Konga series, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Mario spin off titles. The Country series has also seen a re- release on the Game Boy Advance.

But, Dr. Light had the fear that X would break the First Law of Robots (Harming a human) So, X was sealed in a capsule for 30 years to test the integrity of X's systems. After 30 years of being in the capsule, he was finally discoverd by Dr. Cain and let out of the capsule. Dr. Cain was amazed by his technology and tried to replicate it, thus the Reploid was born. However, some reploids began to rebel against their human creators, these reploids came to be known as "Mavericks." X, had then found himself fighting on the Human side, and destroying the Mavericks each by each.
X first appeared in the 1993 game, Mega Man X. During the game, he would have to fight his way through each Maverick stages, and defeat a boss at the end of each level. Like Mega Man before him, X has the Variable Weapons System. This allows him to copy a certain weapon from a powerful Reploid he has defeated, and turn it into a weapon he can use. After the player has fought his way through the 8 normal stages, and defeated each Maverick Boss at the end, he would have to go to the Sigma stages. After the player has beaten all the Sigma stages, he would have to defeat the 8 Maverick Bosses again and fight the final boss, Sigma.

Fox McCloud
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1993
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot42.jpg
One of Nintendo’s relatively recent characters, born from a collaboration between EAD and Argonaut Software, Fox McCloud acts a mercenary for the Star Fox team in the Lylat System. Piloting his one man spacecraft, the Arwing, he fights alongside Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare and Slippy Toad, constantly clashing against their sworn enemy Andross and his swarm of droid armies.
Fox was created by artist Takaya Imamura, and was inspired by the foxes of Japanese god Inari, donning the same red scarf that Inari shrine statues include. While a fox, McCloud speaks in English in the series, though Lylat Wars (the non US version of Star Fox 64) allowed the characters to speak in their native language.
Fox’s first title was on the SNES, Star Fox releasing in 1993, riding on the hype that the Super FX chip created. This allowed the game to run in a crude polygon shooter style- while being unimpressive by today’s standards, this was a huge step forward in gaming at the time. The game consisted of a non linear level structure that followed McCloud’s journey to destroy the evil scientist Andross. A sequel was planned for the Super Nintendo but was ultimately cancelled for a variety of reasons, mostly due to cost and the advent of the N64. Star Fox 64 expanded on the formula and gave more back story to Fox McCloud, such as the death of his father due to the traitorous Pigma Dengar. Pigma also appeared in the game as part of the Star Wolf team, evil counterparts of Fox and company.
Rare’s Star Fox Adventures was much more story based than the previous in the series, game design akin to the Zelda games. Originally called Dinosaur Planet and starring the fox Sabre, Nintendo saw fit to alter the development process and align it in the Star Fox franchise. Set eight years after SF64, the title told of Fox’s attempts to rebuild Dinosaur Planet, ripped apart by a power unbalance. Here Fox was cockier than previous titles (voiced by Steve Malpass), and incorporated a style found in most other Rare games. After Microsoft’s acquisition of the company in 2002, the Star Fox franchise was handed over to Namco to make Star Fox Assault, returning Fox to his roots in his Arwing. McCloud has appeared as a character in both Super Smash Bros games, using his speed and blaster to an advantage.

wow. Hopefully I'll have the time to read through all this during the weekend. Remember, copying right off wikipedia isn't all that interesting, really. If possible, please find more links to go with your characters and add them here, even if the links are found on the wikipedia page (but does not link to a wikipedia page).
If you can, please refer to game manuals. I'll put that on the front page.

Hi, i've been a browser of the forums for a long time, but never made a single post, this is one thing I had to correct as it frustrated me as a kid A LOT, and now it's happening again. I'm refering to the "Alex 'the' Kidd" post, he's called "Alex Kidd" not Alex the Kidd, as i'm sure if it was 'the kidd' there'd only be a single D in Kid. Check the remix pages on this site for Alex Kidd, it's correct there, and you can see the title screen for the one alex kidd game they've got on there hasn't a single 'the' on it..
Sorry for the rant.. just something that ticked me off a little.. great work here so far though =)

Looks like you're right. One could ask oneself, though, why he's often referred to as Alex "the" Kidd. A mistakenly supposed correction of Engrish, maybe? :)
BTW, I'd appreciate more of this kind of feedback if applicable.

Well, there goes my memory. At least we've got someone on the forums who actually remembers him. I've always referred to him as 'The Kidd'- the other way sounded a bit stunted. Oh well.

I agree "Alex Kidd" sounds kinda odd, but then again, that's not for us to say, at least not within this project :)
Btw, Watkinzez, I'd like to thank you for your massive contribution so far. I'll continue my efforts to correct errors of yours and others and my own, but so far your bios have kept a high level of quality.

Metroid
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1986
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot117.jpg
The Metroid are a fictional species from the planet SR-388, subsequently naming the Metroid series of games headed up by Gunpei Yokoi. The Metroids are parasitic life forms, feeding on the life energy of unsuspecting victims, not unlike a leech. Their aggressiveness and rapid reproduction however makes them a dangerous foe, especially in swarms. The Chozo (1) name for Metroid can be translated to ‘ultimate warrior’.
There are several stages in the Metroid life cycle, being unveiled over the titles in the series. The larval Metroids are the most common seen in the games, their ability to hover by using kinetic energy stored in their body. The gelatinous shell that they possess is impervious to most weapons, the underbody a weak spot. In the original Metroid, a combination of the Ice Beam and missiles would take care of them. When attacked in Metroid Prime, a morph ball bomb would shake them off.
As the Metroids grow they begin to form a more reptilian appearance, their shell hardening, and a head emerging. The life cycle was most evident in Metroid II, the Metroid Queen being the ultimate of the species. In this game bounty hunter Samus Aran set out to eradicate the Metroid life form, posing a threat to the Galactic Federation.
In the Game Boy Advance title Metroid Fusion, an upset of the food chain on SR-388 allowed the X Parasite (the Metroid’s natural prey) to multiply rapidly. Upon returning to the planet to help a group of scientists, Samus was infected by the parasite and only survived by a vaccine of Metroid DNA used on her. Using this DNA Samus was able to combat the X Parasite.
Other variations of Metroids have appeared, most notably in the Prime series, where the Space Pirates used them as test subjects to the radioactive substance Phazon. The effect to the creatures was extreme growth and mutation, several species of which Samus was forced to uncover and take down.
1- An ancient, wise race in the Metroid games, almost considered Biblical in their world.

Moevember 6 edit-
Removed from third paragraph: 'Only one Metroid survived, seeing Samus as its mother and helping the player escape SR-388.'
Changed fourth paragraph to avoid Metroid II spoilers, original state follows: 'In the Game Boy Advance title Metroid Fusion, the crusade against the Metroid species turned out to be a big mistake, upsetting the food chain on SR-388 and allowing the X Parasite (the Metroid’s natural prey) to multiply rapidly. Upon returning to the planet to help a group of scientists, Samus was infected by the parasite and only survived by a vaccine of Metroid DNA used on her. Using this DNA Samus was able to combat the X Parasite.'
Shortening of last paragraph, avoiding Prime spoilers: 'Other variations of Metroids have appeared, most notably in the Prime series, where the Space Pirates used them as test subjects to the radioactive substance Phazon. The effect to the creatures was extreme growth and mutation, such as the Hunter Metroid. Metroid Prime, of which the game was named after and the final boss, became so dependent on Phazon it became a twisted version of its former self, effectively killing off the Chozo on planet Tallon IV and poisoning the ecosystem.'

Geno
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)/SQUARESOFT (http://www.square-enix.com/)
1996
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot79.jpg
Somewhere in video game limbo, the characters that debuted in Super Mario RPG live a rather boring life, copyrights and red tape preventing them from doing much else. Geno is one of them- the fruits of labor from a collaboration between Nintendo and Squaresoft. At odds with many other characters from the Mario franchise, he is presented to be of a greater being.
Geno hails from the Star Road, a parallel to Heaven in the Mushroom Kingdom. His mission is simple- to help Mario and company gain the seven star pieces smashed apart by the giant sword Exor. Upon arriving Geno explains much backstory to the group, informing them of Star Road ceasing to grant wishes and the enemy they must defeat, Smithy. In the party he acts as a wise figure, one with great knowledge of their quest. As an agent of Star Road and a star spirit, Geno takes on the form of a doll from a Toad in the game. His true name is actually of a different language, but condenses it for the benefit of Mario’s friends and the player.
In battles, Geno is the dominating magic user, bringing down beams of light upon his enemies. He is also capable of physical attacks involving shooting bullets from his arms, presumably creating them with his power, and boosting the power of him and the team.
It is apparent Geno has his own mission in the game, shouldering a great deal of responsibility to succeed in their quest. From his words, “I serve a higher authority”, his role in the game is made important. After defeating the enemy at the end of their mission, Geno’s character lay dormant for years, due to Square’s affinity with the Sony Playstation. Only recently has he turned up for a cameo in Alpha Dream’s Mario and Luigi, given permission from now Square- Enix.

I plan to do the other Samus mascot after this as a sort of double bio. This one focuses on the pre Prime era.
Samus Aran
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1986
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot13.jpg
This article is one of two Samus biographies. For more information, consult the Samus Aran (Prime) bio.
Samus Aran and the Metroid series of games remain a black sheep in the Nintendo family, though not because of quality- the franchise in many ways is the opposite of what many people associate with the company. Ominous terrain to traverse, surpisingly deep and immersive storylines, and a feminine hero which fails to conform to video game stereotypes. Bounty Hunter Samus was never truly revealed to the player, who assumed their gender was male, until the end of the game- her impact as a character first and a female second.
Going against the princess in distress role, Samus Aran appeared first appeared in Metroid for the NES, headed up by Gunpei Yokoi (who would go on to create the original Game Boy). Here Samus accepted the job to eliminate a stolen batch of Metroids, dangerous parasites, from the Galactic Federation’s enemy the Space Pirates. The Metroid creature posed a threat to the peace of the galaxy, being bred as an army for the Pirates’ leader, Mother Brain. The game is remembered as a non linear experience, at odds with the beat em ups of the day. Vertical scrolling helped create a more intricate design to the caverns of Zebes, the planet on which the game was set. The sequel, Return of Samus, told of the Bounty Hunter’s mission to eradicate the Metroid species on their home planet, SR-388.
Aran returned on the Super Nintendo in 1994, taking advantage of the increased power of the medium. Using the 24- megabit cartridge, the largest at the time, Nintendo created a vast, expansive world set back on Zebes. Samus starts her mission with the intent on rescuing a stolen Metroid research subject, the last of the species. Former antagonist Ridley, from the original game, used the subject with intentions to resurrect the Space Pirate army and ultimately Mother Brain.
While some see the series as a mild diversion to the platformers of the day, the intimacy with Samus as a character helped the games become a more immersive and memorable experience. For a character with little backstory and no dialogue, the lone hunter traversing desolate, alien landscapes cemented her role in video game history.

This has been bugging me. It's been said earlier that these bios are not meant to be a Wikipedia mirror, and yet a majority of the source links are from Wikipedia. While I'm quite sure that Wikipedia is an excellent source of information (and that the info portrayed in this thread isn't a mirror), I would, personaly, like to see more "outside" links (even if it's a fansite for the game the character is in, and not a site for the character themselves).
Since I don't have any helpful information for most of what's been said, I'd like to post some very comprehensive links for the Mega Man (which can be used for Mega Man X, as well, I believe) bio.
http://www.mmhp.net/ This is a site I accidently stumbled onto, while looking for a different MM site. As such, I haven't really looked at it to deeply, but it looks good.
http://www.megaman-network.com/ This site is dripping with MM info of all kinds. Seriously, I think even Smoke could find helpful stuff here (though he very well may have written half the site, for all I know).
http://mmco.megaman-network.com/charbios/ Bios for all of the MM Classic characters (even those who were very un-important).
http://mmco.megaman-network.com/analyses/ In depth analyses of the MM Classic series as a whole. Oddly enough, there's actaully storyline to the original games, and not just "shoot anything that moves." (though that is what happens, of course, the analyses is cool because it tells what goes on in the background, how things develop, and even illustrates how Dr. Wily changes, and improves, his methods of attack and disguise)
Though I haven't written a bio, I'd be very disapointed if the megaman-network links weren't included, as they certainly contain any and all info MM related.
Sorry I can't help more, but maybe I'll rewrite/add to the MM bio later. Anyway, take a look at those links. I think they're quite amazing.
Oh, last thing. MM has appeared on every system made by Nintendo. MM 1-6 for the NES, the GB games (listed already), the SNES games (listed already) and the MOST IMPORTANT ones, the Megaman Legends series! Megamam Legends 1 & 2 were on the PSX. Megaman Legends 1 was ported to the N64 as Megaman 64. Also, MM made it to the Gamecube in the Anniversiary Col. (though I don't know if that counts). As for Mega Man X, it should be noted that MMX 1-3 were on the SNES, and MMX 3-6 were on the PSX (yes, Mega Man X 3 was on both the PSX and the SNES. I have them both, if you want proof), with MMX 7 & 8 on the PS2. Also, the MMX Col. is coming out soon, and will be out on the PS2 as well as the Gamecube. Another MMX game on the Gamecube was MMX: Command Mission, which was the first RPG starring MM (though the MM Legends series had a lot of RPG elements, they're not really RPGs).
And, don't forget the PC versions of MM games. There were a few MMX games that made it to the PC, and Megaman Legends 1 made it to the PC as well (I think there were others, but I'm not sure). Yes, I do realize that every game starring Megaman can't be listed in the bio (he might actaully beat out Mario...), but if the comment "mega man has had at least one game on all but one of the nintendo consoles." is going to be made, I'd like to to be truthful (which, that comment isn't true, since there has been a Mega Man game on every single one of Nintendo's consoles (unless you count Mega Man Legends as a separate character/bio)).
Anyway, there's my contribution to this project (for now). Hopefully, it can be of use for the final product.
[EDIT] In case you're wondering, the Megaman-Network site also lits all of its sources. The link for that info is http://mmco.megaman-network.com/resources/ Again, hopefully this can be useful to you. Mouser X out.
[EDIT2] Mascot 54 (Dr. Wily) has a full name of "Dr. Albert W. Wily" Please see Megman-Network for more details (that's where I found his name).

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm aware of the wikipedia problem, and I've been trying to find alternate sources for some of the bios, but usually to no avail. Not all characters have the same abundance of fansites as does Mega Man... The best solution would be to use game manuals, but they're hard to come by, especially if you're a rom gamer... :?
You seem more than capable of writing a Mega Man bio. The info you provided just now is appreciated, and relevant for the sake of correction, but the level of detail in the bio will have to stay lower, but I'm sure you're aware of this already. Another problem with these bios is that eventually, the information in them will become obsolete. That's why I've been trying to avoid phrases like "Mega Man has had one game on every nintendo console but one", because it's likely to change sooner or later, and once this project is finished, I would hope not to have to maintain it by updating the bios every so often, but by adding games to the appearances list, period.
However, the fact that Mega Man (or variations, such as Battle Network, which I don't count as the same character either) has appeared on every nintendo console is important for emphasizing the impact that this character has had on the gaming world. How we're going to forge this information into the bio without writing something that will be invalid in a few years, I don't know. When the bios are all written, we will begin editing them to fit the guidelines we've come up with until then, and then standardize, format and so on. Once this is done I don't want to have to edit the actual bio texts again, unless someone finds invalid information within them.
Bios need not mention or describe every single game a character has appeared or starred in. They should have an "open ending", not by allowing for further content, but by not seeming like they're trying to stay up to date. They're an introduction to the character, not an encyclopedia on them. Bios should be written in a way that they can be read in a few years and still not contain invalid information. I should write this on the first page as well.

Mouser X, I know what you mean. Wikipedia can be a bit plain as it were, so I'm trying to use a wider range of sources (but in some cases with obscure characters, you can have little choice). You can also get stuck when trying to write in a style different to the Wiki, and not just repeating word for word. I probably do that as well (please, if anyone thinks they get a little too close, say so!)
Samus Aran (Prime)
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1986
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot40.jpg
This article is one of two Samus biographies. For more information, consult the Samus Aran bio.
“But among the stars, there is one light that burns brighter than all others. The light of Samus Aran. Her battles extend beyond her life, and etch themselves into history.”
So says the prologue to Metroid Prime (PAL release), Samus’ first ever foray into the third dimension. The determination and strength of the bounty hunter has allowed her to overcome many obstacles in her epic missions. Samus had rarely been seen since her appearance in Super Metroid eight years before; only popping up in the Nintendo 64’s Super Smash Bros as a projectile and air based fighter. Rookie development house Retro Studios was trusted with the task of breathing life into the Metroid franchise and the character of Samus, and did so soundly. Set immediately after the original Metroid, Samus chased the remains of the Space Pirate fleet to the dormant planet Tallon IV, poisoned by the radioactive substance Phazon. Far more backstory was present in this game, allowing the player to discover events as Samus and uncover more about her character. Her femininity was capitalized in cut scenes, though not in a sexual manner, to show her independence and strength.
The Prime side story was continued by Retro in 2004, through Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Using a system similar to Zelda on the SNES, Samus had to traverse through two parallel dimensions to help the Luminoth gain back their planet. Here an extension of Samus acted as the lead antagonist- Dark Samus, feeding off the Phazon rife throughout the planet Aether. In a move uncommon in the Metroid series, dialogue was present in this title, occurring between Samus and the Luminoth leader.
While returning in HAL’s Smash Bros sequel, the bounty hunter also saw a resurrection of her story on the Game Boy Advance, returning to 2D and the post SNES story in Metroid Fusion. The food chain on SR-388 upset, Samus was infected by a rapidly multiplying parasite on an expedition. Saved by the DNA of the last living Metroid, she proceeded to help destroy the parasite threat. Though remaining in the same formula as the Metroid games of old, Fusion presented a more linear experience for the player.

I know that Zophar.net posted this in their news at one point, but I couldn't remember the site name. So, after a quick google search of Zophar.net, I bring you a few very useful links for manuals.
http://www.hqscansorg.org/ The original site. They don't host the manuals themselves, but do have torrents set up for them (or uesed to. I think they've stopped doing that now).
http://www.gamemanuals.net/ This is the REAL prize of the links. Over 5600 manuals online, based on what I saw (I didn't look very hard though). Click the "more" link in the lower right corner. You can of course use their search feature. It looks pretty good. Also, they have torrents set up, if anyone wants to try those out. One thing to keep in mind about this site though, is that the manuals are in PDF format (and a lot of them are very High Quality from what I've seen. MUCH larger than the vimmslair.com stuff. Of course, I haven't seen to many of them yet...). Just a heads up for you.
Hopefully, between gamemanuals.net and vimmslair.com a lot more info can be found and used. Good luck with this, and maybe now we can get those game manuals included in the source (perhaps even linked?). Mouser X over and out.

Yeah, linking the game manuals might be an idea... hm. Well, thanks for the additional info! I'll add the links to the first page.
I've been trying to update my Captain Falcon bio. It's better now, but it's still not cool. Btw, watkinzez, I've been having second thoughts about your Samus bio. I remember saying that Mega Man and Mega Man X should have their own separate bios... but that's because they are different characters. As for samus, isn't she really the same person in all of the games? Link is a reincarnated hero, but I'd still want him to have only one bio (which I think can wait) (except for the deku link, which needed a bio of its own for clarity's sake), and... well... I don't really see a reason to let Samus have two bios. She's changed design-wise, but the storyline of all the games are connected, arent't they? Even though the games haven't appeared in the correct order, storywise.
And in that case, we'd have to use both images in the same bio, and explain somewhere that the one image is from metroid prime and the other one from super metroid... Besides, it'd be silly to have different appearances lists for the two "versions" of Samus, and it'd be even sillier to have the same appearances list in both bios, because both "versions" can't exist in the same games. Meh. This post is messy.
What I'm trying to say is I think it'd be better to have only ONE Samus bio, one that explains
1. the fact that the games haven't appeared in the "correct" order and that missing chapters are being filled in with every new game
2. how all the games are connected,
3. why there are two images and which one originates from which game as well as
4. Samus' past etc.
All of this without revealing the entire storyline of the series.
Mouser X
01-04-2006, 08:14 PM
In regards to the multiple Samus Bios, I agree that there should only be 1 (they're the same person, after all). I must add though, that I thought both bios were pretty good. I just have no idea how to combine them... Also, in regards to the pictures, couldn't some code (html or whatever) be added to the links so that when they click on a picture, it brings them to a generic template page (like what OCR does right now, for the most part), and fill that page with the relevent data pertaining to the link they clicked on? If you could do that, you wouldn't actaully need have both pictures in the bio, since it could load the picture according to the one they clicked on. Then, once inside the page, it would not only display the appropriate picture, but it could also display the appropriate info. Take Samus for example. Pic1 and Pic2 are different, but share almost all of the same data. So, you have some "data blocks (where/how the info is stored)." Probably 3 or so. 1 for the main body of text (as all of this should be relevent to both pictures), 1 for pic1, and 1 for pic2. That way, you meet the best of both worlds (IMO) because you have all the info, without having to worry about duplicating data or entries.
Of course, your idea would also work just as well (and would also probably be easier to write for). Anyway, that's sort of what I've been thinking of for this project. However, it should be noted that although I had that idea, there's no way I could code it. I wouldn't even have a clue as to where, or how, to start.
Anyway, yah, characters with multiple pictures (Samus, Mega Man X) should probably have only 1 bio, since they are the same person, after all (for the most part, I suppose). Mouser X over and out.

On the Samus bios, that's cool on combining them. I was experimenting mostly with the second bio, and it did turn out fairly thin. Unless you think there's any info in the Prime bio that needs transferring, just use the first one. I could try to splice them if you want me to..

The more well-known nintendo characters are the ones I'm the most concerned about. I'd like to see some kind of combination, but unless you really want to do it now, I think we can wait with that one for a while and just leave them as is for now. I need to sit down and read them both through thoroughly. :)
Mouser X, your coding proposal sounds pretty complicated. It'd seem like an easier solution would be to have 2 separate, near-identical bios for both pictures. I don't really understand why they put in more than one picture for any of the characters, anyway, but that's how it is.

Yea... It's been awhile... I wasn't in the mood...
And earlier you were asking about the official names of final fantasy games: they're all in roman numerals, like Final Fantasy IX, but to abbreviate, most people know all the games as FF9, with the number because it's shorter. I figured it was easy to follow, but however you want to do the names is fine. And FF10 is usually just FFX...
I was also curious whether we should include characters like this as listed in say, Kingdom Hearts? I don't really think we should, but he is in there and we do have remixes for the game so whatever.

Tidus
Square-Enix (http://www.square-enix.com/)

http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot78.jpg
Character Summary:
Tidus, pronounced "Tee-dus", is the lead hero of Final Fantasy X, a uniquely ground-breaking game for being among the first completely 3D rpgs that was fully voice casted during all dialoge, and yet maintained the typical 50+ hours of gameplay. Tidus' name is taken from the Japanese "Tiida" meaning "Sun" which reflects his character throughout the game.
Final Fantasy X begins focused on Tidus, the cheery yet childish star Blitzball player in his futuristic hometown of Zanarkand, when the city gets attacked by a giant monster called "Sin", transporting him into the new, seemingly primitive world of Spira. Tidus' story revolves around his desire to return home to Zanarkand, and his involvement in Spira while attempting to return.
Final Fantasy X has sold millions of copies worldwide and has been considered by many to be one of the most successful PS2 games to date, thus it's the first final fantasy to spawn a direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, in which Tidus is not the main character, but the person the main characters search for throughout the game.

If it's supposed to be roman numerals when written short and arabic numerals when writing the full name, then do it that way. All I want is consistency :)

I'm not really sure what you mean.
Kingdom Hearts has A LOT of cameos from all the Final Fantasy games and disney characters. For instance, a young Tidus who you can fight with at the beginning of the game. I'm not sure it's necessary to list Kingdom Hearts as a game Tidus is in, particularly since Kingdom Hearts 2 is coming out in three months, and most likely will have a lot of the Final Fantasy characters again. Which means we'd have to go through a lot of effort just to add Kingdom Hearts under every Final Fantasy character. It's just gonna be a bunch of work changing things we've already written. In the same way we'll have to change Sora's bio once Kingdom Hearts 2 actually comes out. So I don't know what you want to do about these characters having information that changes a lot.
Dafydd
01-08-2006, 02:34 AM
The original idea was to list every single little appearance for every character, but then came Mario and we realized we could never mention every game he's been in. Recently, I've been thinking about the fact that while the bios won't be updated every so often, the world will. Because of this fact, it's no use trying to list every appearance now, because it's likely to change anyway. I don't think this project will be finished in 3 months anyway, but...
If you want, you can mention the fact that he has an appearance in Kingdom Hearts, but not list it below. This depends on how important this appearance is, and how well-known the character is. With some characters, like Captain Falcon, I thought it necessary to mention a few appearances, because a lot of people don't know who he is, despite the fact that he's an important character in game history, or the game that he stars in is an important game in game history.
If you want to clarify that "this isn't just some random character, there's a reason he has his own mascot here" even though maybe there isn't :) Then you should mention somewhere that he, and a lot of other squaresoft characters have cameos in Kingdom Hearts, but if a lot of squaresoft characters DO cameo in Kingdom Hearts, it's gonna be a nag to mention that in every single bio, and we'd be better off mentioning it in Sora's bio instead. :) This is a difficult question, and I think we'll have to continue discussing it when I get back. Or you could try yourselves while I'm gone. Your opinions are important to me, even though I disagree with you sometimes.

Batsu
Capcom (http://www.capcom.com/)

Character Summary:
Batsu (Voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama whom is famous for his role as Adult Link's voice in Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time along with several other characters in different Figthing Games) is the lead character of the Rival Schools games. His mother, whom worked at Taiyo High as a clerk was kidnapped when Justice High's students attacked Taiyo High. This was Batsu's motive for transferring to Taiyo High at the begining of the game's story.
In Project Justice (Moero! Justice Gakuen in Japan), Batsu's pride was shattered when he loses a fight and he runs off to soclusion. After several weeks of intense training in the mountians he hid in, he comes back to Taiyo High in time to save his friends from an assasin named Kurow.
Aside from his main roles in those games, Batsu (along with fellow classmate Hinata) also made an appearance in Capcom vs SNK 2 as back up for his classmate Kyosuke in his Super Move "Final Symphony Remix". Another notable appearance was in the card game by SNK, SNK vs Capcom: Card Battle.
Rival Schools and Project Justice has created a small fanbase in the U.S., which results in a comic book series by Udon (the same guys that make the Street Fighter and Darkstalkers comics) which should be released sometime in January 2006.

Tira
NAMCO (http://www.namco.com/)
2005
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot132.jpg
Tira, a 17 year old girl with unknown origins. The secret behind her birth may be a secret of the organization of assassins who raised her, but perhaps even they do not know. Whatever the case, she was taken in as a child to a group of assassins called the “Birds of Passage”, and they worked to shape the history of Europe from behind the scenes. Tira became accustomed to killing, to the point where she needed murder just for the stimulation it provided her. Tira always stayed cheerful through her ghastly assignments, as if she enjoyed them, but this was simply a way to hide her true feelings.
The coming of Soul Edge back into the world cut her ties with these killers. The leader dead, Tira was set free from their influence, and was taken in by a normal family. Soon, events unfolded further, and she killed the kind people before she even knew what was happening. After this, she knew she needed a life of killing.
Tira, using her ring blade to leave bloody remains of those she came across, eventually met up with a massacre to rival her own: that of Nightmare, the set of armor possessed by the evil Soul Edge. Tira pledged loyalty to the sword, for in her mind she had found a kindred spirit to her own.
Tira comes into the fourth installment of the Soul Edge series, Soul Calibur III, at this point. Her motives are dark: to destroy the pure sword Soul Calibur, and to find a new host for the evil Soul Edge to inhabit so that it can once again be among the living. She uses a ring blade, named Aisel Nedrossel, and calls her discipline the “Dance of Death”. She is commonly seen in the company of ravens, whispered to be dark 'watchers' under the control of Soul Edge, a good example being the opening cinematic for the game.
Her scantily clad design is said by the developers to appeal to mid-level players, the play style supposedly being harder than Zasalamel, but not as complicated as Setsuka, the two other new members to the Soul Calibur cast. Masumi Asano is credited as the voice actor for the Japanese version of SCIII, but no documentation on her English counterpart at the moment. Her weapon, while very far-fetched in the mostly realistic score of SC weapons, adds a new twist to things, and is fun to watch.

Well, I tried my hand at Link..
Link
NINTENDO (http://www.nintendo.com/)
1986
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot1.jpg
Link is the recurring main character in Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series, that is, there is no one single Link. Each hero of the games are from a line descended from the hero before them, possessing similar characteristics. Though the character can be named anything by the player at the start of the game, the manuals and other such booklets call him Link after the ‘link’ the player has between the hero of each game.
The original Zelda in 1986 gave little detail as to the characteristics of Link, though outlined the appearance of the hero that has been followed throughout the series- a green tunic, dark hair (though this has changed recently for blonde), and his choice in weaponry, usually a sword and shield but extending to arrows, bombs and other magical items. His quest to save his homeland of Hyrule was to find the shards of the mythical Triforce, overthrow the pig like tyrant Ganon, and save the Princess Zelda from capture.
Since the inception of the franchise, Link’s personality has often been one advocating courage and bravery. In several of the games, the hero obtains one of the parts of the Triforce, standing for courage. His age is always that of a young boy or man, backing up the theme of maturity that Shigeru Miyamoto, Zelda creator, has strived to present on screen. Like many other main characters in this style of games, Link rarely speaks, using facial expression to convey his feelings.
Apart from the main Zelda series, Link has starred in spin offs and even other forms of media. The Legend of Zelda TV series in the late 80s portrayed a Link quite at odds with that of the games, an outspoken teenager who helped save Hyrule to win Zelda’s favour. The line “Well excuse me, Princess!” has become an infamous part of the Zelda franchise. His appearance in Super Smash Bros and its sequel allowed the player to get the edge over their opponent with various projectiles from his arsenal of items.

No, but seriously, game manuals are sometimes wrong, too. The metroid manual, for example, clearly states that Samus is a man, but she's a woman even in the game. Maybe it was intentional, that her being a woman was meant to be a surprise at the end of the game, but the manual was wrong, nevertheless. This is why we need people who know what they're talking about, and part of why I'm not writing all of these bios on my own.

Kraid
Nintendo (www.nintendo.com)

http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot120.jpg
Kraid, like Ridley (this is to become a link to Ridley's bio), is one of the recurrent major adversaries in the Metroid series. Being one of the most powerful Space Pirates, the giant lizard is stationed as the boss of Brinstar in both Metroid and Super Metroid.
Between the releases of these two games, Kraid's sprite grew immensely in size, from covering only small part of the screen in Metroid, to becoming likely one of the largest bosses in video game history at the time of realease of Super Metroid (which is where this picture is taken from), where his enormous and spiny body would take up more than 2 entire screens. He would attack Samus by shooting spines through holes in his stomach in both games.
Kraid was reportedly scheduled for another come-back in Metroid Prime, but was reduced to a mere cameo role during the game development. He also cameoes in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Ridley, like Kraid (this is to become a link to Kraid's bio), is one of the recurrent major adversaries in the Metroid series. Shaped like a bony, dragon-like flying beast (this picture taken from Super Metroid), he has headed many high-profile Space Pirates' missions - among them the capturing of the metroid in the beginning of Super Metroid. He is likely one of the highest ranking Space Pirates, believed by some to be the man upstairs himself.
He was originally said to be one of the original inhabitants of planet Zebes, one that was then taken in under the Mother Brain's command to become one of the Space Pirates. He has, in one way or another, appeared as a boss in most of the games in the Metroid series. He also cameoes in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Hopefully I can do Frog justice.
Frog
Square-Enix (http://www.square-enix.com)
1995
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot74.jpg
Perhaps one of the most recognizable characters from Chrono Trigger (http://www.ocremix.org/game/16/) on the Super Nintendo, Frog is an integral member of the game's time-traveling party of heroes.
Frog's first game appearance is in 600 A.D., at the Cathedral south of Guardia Castle. When Crono and Lucca are caught off-guard by an attacking Mystic, Frog enters the scene to kill the fiend before it can strike. He says that, as a knight in the service of Queen Leene, he shares the time-travelers' intent to rescue Queen Leene from Yakra and his gang of Mystics. With that he joins the party.
Frog is, as his name implies, a frog the size of a small human. It is later revealed that the wizard Magus cursed him with this physical form, but that he was born in the form of a human and named Glenn. When he was squire to the legendary knight Cyrus, during the war between Guardia and Magus's army of Mystics, Glenn and Cyrus confronted Magus together. Magus killed Cyrus and transformed Glenn into a frog, so as to humiliate him.
By the time Crono and Lucca meet him, however, his image projects nothing of humiliation. Frog, as the squire-turned-knight instructs others to address him, is a picture of nobility, yet humble and honest. He speaks with characteristic syntax and diction akin to sixteenth century English, which not even his contemporaries use. This adds to his stately style.
After helping to rescue Queen Leene, Frog leaves Guardia Castle in self-imposed exile. He says that he failed the Queen in allowing her to be captured, and that he no longer has the honor of serving in her presence. He retreats to his home in the Cursed Woods until Crono and his friends bring him the legendary sword Masamune, reforged. With it, he confronts Magus again to avenge Cyrus's death. Upon being swept out of his home time with Crono and the others during this battle, his story becomes intertwined with theirs.
Frog's elegance makes him a memorable part of Chrono Trigger.

Serge
Square-Enix (http://www.square-enix.com/)
2000
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot82.jpg
Character Summary:
Serge is the silent protagonist of Chrono Cross, a game which, though remotely based off Chrono Trigger, is an independent role playing game which was both ground-breaking for its time and given stellar reviews. Serge has no speaking parts throughout the game apart from the various choices the player decides to make as Serge's story unfolds. This is meant to allow room for him to represent the persona of the person playing, rather than having an assigned personality, something which was also done in Chrono Trigger. Meanwhile, even for having having more than 40 playable characters, the game has quite strong character development and a complex intriguing plot.
Serge's story begins in a serene village, where Serge wakes up from an omninous dream to find himself merely collecting scales by the beach for a girl in the village. When meeting up with her at the beach, suddenly Serge is transported into another world where things have changed drastically. Serge's motive behind his journeying changes throughout the story, from returning home, to saving his friend, to (of course...) saving the world.
Chrono Cross has a mixed fan following as it follows neither the style of Final Fantasy or its prequel, Chrono Trigger but creates a unique, original game. However, the game is a well-regarded greatest hit from the era of PSOne RPGs.

Princess Ruto
Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com/home)
1998
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot122.jpg
Character Summary:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is undisputably the best game to surface on the N64, widely considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time. However, Princess Ruto's role in it is quite minimal, with no logic to justify making it one of the 135 mascots that surface across the Overclocked Remix community. The game manual for Ocarina of Time does briefly makes note of her as a character though: "Zora's princess. Ruto is very much a tomboy." Nevertheless, to expand on that...
Link meets Princess Ruto inside the belly of the Lord Jabu Jabu as a result of easing the concerns of her father, King Zora, in hopes of being given the Zora Sapphire. Upon meeting her, rather than just returning to King Zora as Link would prefer, she forces him to carry her around and ends up being used as a tool to surpass various puzzles within the dungeon. After completing the dungeon, Ruto's crush on Link is blatantly revealed and is still prevalent later on in the game, after Link has grown up. She takes the role of the Water Sage as an adult giving him the Water Medallion, needed to save Hyrule.

I thought F-Zero made it look like it was held high up in the sky. Not because of parallax backgrounds or an illusion of depth, but because of the low-res super fast cars and buildings (which I initially mistook for chipsets and electric pulses) surrounding the mute city track. And the box cover, of course.

Character Summary:
Azel, literally translating to 'servant', is the enigmatic female lead of the critically acclaimed Sega Saturn RPG 'Panzer Dragoon Saga' (known in Japan as 'Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG'), one of the last games to be released on the platform. The creation of an ancient civilisation, Azel remained inactive until discovered by protagonist Edge, then captured and awoken by apparent antagonist Craymen. Fiercely loyal to her waker, and enemy by association to Edge, Azel's morality is ambigous for the most part of the story, providing a number of boss battles from the back of her Dragon, Atolm, throughout. Edge is something of a reluctant rival to Azel, and it's only later when the two are forced by circumstance to work together that we are given any insight into her mind, and her purpose.
As the story progresses Azel's blind loyalties fade, and her apathy to the world around her is replaced by curiosity and emotion, even experiencing dreams and nightmares as a human would. Her role in relation to the world is also revealed; she is the key to the operation of the tower, a structure created by the Ancients that controls and regulates the world's population and environment, still functioning long after their deaths. As such, she is a highly contested figure for the various factions of the Panzer world - control of Azel means control of the world.
It is revealed in the XBOX game Panzer Dragoon:Orta that after the ending of Saga, Azel went on to combine the genetic information of herself and Edge to create Orta, the female protagonist of the game. Though her ultimate fate is unknown, it's clear that something of her lives on in Orta. For her many complexities, her inner conflicts, her unstereotypical personality for a female RPG character, Azel remains to this day a much-loved fan favourite.

Thank you, Atolmazel! Judging from your name, you're a true fan of the series of relevance, which is a good thing in this thread. Thank you, also, for not using a wikipedia page as your only source.

Just to let you know I'm not slacking off, I've started working on Terry's bio. It's gonna be a whooper...
I also started on Edge's, but his might take a while since he wasn't one of my favorites per say.

I'd prefer to see the bios well made to seeing them drop in quickly. There's no deadline for this project, although I'd be happy to finish before summer break ends (2006). If you read early in the thread, I said I was hoping to finish this before 2006, and my team said "oh, no biggie, we'll be done within the month" or something. But then they all quit on me so here we are :) Also, I've noticed forcing myself to write a bio generally leads to an uninspired one that I end up scrapping anyway. :-/ That said, don't slack off more than necessary. We need to keep this thing progressing, if slowly.

As I understand it, we're gonna have a Site Project subforum specifically for this project once we do the vB switch. I believe that would ential creating threads for each character, allowing for better organization. So keep working on this stuff, as you'll be in a position to make even more significant progress in the coming months.

Yeah that's the plan. We need to decide if people will be allowed to reply to these threads in order to discuss the mascots though.
Also, I think it'd be cool if you included "related remixes," such as a link to any related game's OCR page.
So for the Azel bio, you could put the link for the Panzer Dragoon games' remix database entries:
http://www.ocremix.org/game/162/
http://www.ocremix.org/game/354/
That way if someone sees a character that they don't know and read their bio, they can possibly discover new music as well.

Yeah, I was wondering when I typed it up whether I should link to the original PD remixes despite the absence of Azel in the game. I guess there's no real disadvantage in doing so other than the technicality of it.

Yuna
Square-Enix (http://www.square-enix.com/)
2001
http://www.ocremix.org/images/template/ocr4_mascot33.jpg
Character Summary:
Final Fantasy X is a groundbreaking RPG as it represents the first fully 3D Final Fantasy, with all in game dialogue voice casted. While the game is focused on and narrated by Tidus throughout the party's journey, Yuna is the central character when it comes to the goal of their journey; the role of every character in the players party is to guard Yuna on her journey. Yuna's name means (in different regions of Japan) both "night" and "blossom" and also refers to a hibiscus flower that blooms at night, as Yuna becomes known for freeing the world of Spira from a time of pain.
The daughter of High Summoner Braska, Yuna's journey follows her father's footsteps in trying to rid the world of Spira from the death surrounding the seemingly eternal monstrosity known as "Sin". Ten years prior to Yuna's story, her father had defeated Sin, but the world of Spira accepts that every ten years Sin returns after being defeated. In order to defeat Sin to bring those ten years of calm back to Spira, Yuna must go on a pilgrimage to visit every temple in Spira and gain new Aeons, or summons. She meets Tidus when he washes up on the shore of her home island and asks him to become her guardian on her pilgrimage.
At the end of Final Fantasy X, Tidus disappears after they defeat Sin. The popularity of FFX lead it to be the first Final Fantasy to spawn a direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-2 in which the main character is Yuna, who is searching for Tidus throughout the game. While less reputable than its predecessor, FFX-2 also sold millions of copies worldwide and became a PS2 Greatest Hit.
