I remember a thread where someone was dicussing this idea, so let's just do it!

You'll need the 'Microlab Refill Pack 1' to get all the drum sounds!

Sonic 'Collision':
www.malcos.co.uk/Sonic_Final_Boss.rps

Ok, this one's not an OC mix, but nevertheless. It's a mix of a tune from Subterrania, the second stage, with the guy with the big head and you're on the rails...
www.malcos.co.uk/Sub.rps

Heheh, these will reveal just how lazy my production usually is compared to most Reason users! I don't use that many tracks.

Microlab Refill Pack 1 is a free download at: http://www.microlab.se/index2.html.

Hmm, I'll post a mix, too, even though I'm hardly an excellent remixer and I'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who should use my work as a basis for their own.

The Wayfarer's Road (http://arcana.serveftp.net/songs/Arcana_-_Terranigma_-_The_Wayfarers_Road_-_OCRI.rps) is my OCR Idol Round 2 entry. There are a number of problems with the song in its current condition but I don't see myself redoing it for a while. Again, it's not an OC Remix but someone might check it out and see what kind of things can be done to it.

Edit: Malcos, wow, I didn't realise that some of your remixes didn't involve that many tracks at all. I'm going to have to check out some of the sequencing and stuff that you use there.

I have to confess that I like to see a lot of sample songs and all of that in the programs I use because it helps me get ideas, but even for things that are seen as generic or "staple" of whatever genre it is, I start to learn techniques and ideas. Still, there's definitely nothing like doing. Looking without trying anything yourself won't get you anywhere.

www.supergreenx.com/tutorials.php has all of my shareable mixes.

Unfortunately I don't think I will ever be adding to that list since I pretty much don't do anything exclusively in Reason (though I often do things mostly in Reason).

Hey, debeerguy here. I think is a great idea, putting OCR remixes made with Reason out there so others can see what you did to make it.

This can be used as a great learning experience for up and coming remixers using Reason and also at the same time you'll be able to protect your remixes from being tampered with by posting .rps files.

Plus it presents the opportunity of being able to render OCR remixes at 44100Hz 16bit audio quality. Always a plus :)

Unfornately I have yet to make a remix with Reason, so I guess I better get cracking. LOL

very cool

You need something to bump this with. Where are all of my fellow OCR Idol competitors? I think a good half of that competition used Reason.

When I open this up it says that file format is unsupported. I'm using Reason 2.5. Any ideas?

He might have made the song in 3.0 or recently modified it a little bit with 3.0, making it incompatable.

Malcos
09-02-2005, 04:37 PM
Yeah, I made this in 2.5, but made it into a rps using Reason 3.0. It's a shame that the songs are not backwards compatible. :?

Arcana

I'd volunteer (unreliable) hosting. I say unreliable only because I don't want to be responsible for the uptime of your files. If you're okay with that then let me know (PM me) and I'll put them online for you.

I havnt got any songs that i'm happy with atm, but i was thinking of pushing up an orchestral template i'm working on. That way people can help me improve it! ^^ Geocities is the only place i got to host me too, so unreliability could be a problem...

If anyone else has any templates for drumsets, trance, etc, would here be a good place to place it, or better to make a new thread (i'd be more likely to put it here, this thread'l last longer... :P)

Thanks to the legendaryness of Arcana, I have 2 songs up! http://arcana.serveftp.net/songs/v_gasm/

The first is Static Rave, which is up here to get a bit of help with. Its my first dance song in a long time, but i'm not happy with peices of it, mostly the lead synth and drums. The bass also seems pretty murky.

The next was my PRC v2-24 entry, a mix of River Stage from Penguin Adventure. I liked it, and i was thinking of subbmitting it. Feedback would be awesome here as well. The bass isnt as smooth as it should be because i kinda stole the sound outta a soundbank (analogue monsters 9). I havnt found anything else good in there, so i didnt want to make you download it....

Anyway... uhh... enjoy, i guess!

EDIT: thanks for the offer legion, but i dnt have FTP access, the only net access i have is at work, and thats majorly limited...

I just started using Reason about 2 weeks ago, so it'd be neat to see how people do things. I only have Reason 2.5 though, not 3.0 (I'll upgrade as soon as I can spare the cash).

Anyways, the song I'm working on right now is almost finished, and I use Reason through SONAR's ReWire DXi. So I'll put up the .rns file, but it'll be missing some of the instruments (guitars, drums, bass, etc.).

Yeah, when you get the cash for the upgrade, it'll be worth it. The Combinator device and the MClass plugins are very decent additions to Reason. And this is coming from a guy who uses FL Studio a bunch.

check 3-4 posts up.... I hope Arcana is still hosting... (yay he is!)

Ive worked on Static Rave a bit more, but still not happy with the lead or bass really... I dont think i have the mindset for trance/dance-ish music, I'm ok with downtempo/chillout...

Hmmm i should probably try to get the rns files up, rather than the rps, might help for others manipulations...

V-

Static rave- I think what your problem is with the bass is the fact that you have a lot of the bass coming from EQ boosts instead of the bass synth. Usually you should tend to use EQ to sculpt the sound, not create it. The way I mastered it (since its an .rps I can't send it to you) I took the master bass level down from around 6 to about 1.1. I also took the bass EQ down some as well. The bass should usually stay behind a bit instead of taking up the whole mix. Another thing to keep in mind is that your master mix down should be about equal in high and low frequencies, the people who like bass will boost their bass knobs and the people who like treble will boost those; don't try to force feed them... Anywho, on to the lead, I usually put my lead through a unison set to about 50 dry; enough to get a little width, but won't sound soft. I tend to use mirror synths to add to the backing of some of my synths, which might help with adding depth to your synth. Also, if you patch a Scream into the Oscillator output and Audio input (Filter A, Filter b) it will stand out more. Otherwise, it is very well done. Keep it up!

I'll comment on under the ice after class...

**awesomeness**

Ooo!! Ok, I can agree with the bass idea, i can see it in all my bass-y peices now. That'l be a habit to break, thanks for that! I'l test out the unison and scream ideas when i get home, same with the mirror synth. Thanks dude, your a champ!

I think i'm going to restart this almost from scratch, sound-wise. The rack is a bit cluttered, and i've found better ways of organising recently, plus the ideas with sound, so the next file posted here will be an .rns and cleaner!

I hope people are still reading this thread....

Anyway, i need major help. In case you havnt noticed, i'm in the Full Metal Alchemist remix project, and theres a song I went with called Scar, which is mostly percussion, and no melody til just after halfway through. The melody consists of 4 notes (i, iii, i, ivA) played on brass. So this is my mix of it.

I kept in mind the final eq shaping problems i had in my last tunes the whole way but when i got to the final EQ i found i had to dip the bass a fair amount, is that normal? I'v never been able to get a comfortable kick either, so is there some effect/technique/idea i'm missing? I'm not sure bout balance of volumes overall either.

You'l want Microlab Pack 1 for this, its 3.0 but i just downloaded 3.04 so i'l be able to open any of those. Heres the file (rns this time :P)

I'll have a few files up later. Granted they may not be the final mastered versions of my remixes, but they'll be the basic package.

This "song files as tutorials" idea needs to be taken to the next level. I recall a year or so ago when Prot was trying to create a whole website where OCR folk could post their remix song files. I was rather disappointed that it never really took off.

This thread at least needs to be sticked or something.

Been meaning to do this one for a while. It's the .rps file of my Synthetic Demon (E1M5) mix from the game Doom.

Check it out if you feel like it, it's about 26mb though, so be prepared to wait a bit.

ScottPeeples

It was written with Reason 2. But I saved the .rps with v2.5 so i don't know which it'll take to open it.

Oh and by the way, if anyone needs some space to put their .rps files, just let me know and you can put it on my hosting if you want.

Anyway, its in the zip file as an RNS (not RPS) because i'd appreciate any help with it. Even if its just 3-4 little tweaks on a synth, if it cleans up it, i'm happy. Feedback is also awesome. Enjoy!
