Ok so blizzard just rebooted all the realms in order to apply a 'critical fix'. If you're wondering what could be so critical, watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb8mvN2pgpU). Man, if only I had known, I would have so respecced my brother's warrior and gone and soloed ZG or something. Or one-shot Vandaar and actually won an AV for once. Sure his account would be banned for eternity, but it'd be fun.

Can you explain the actual bug?

suzumebachi
12-21-2006, 06:06 PM
Rampage, the new level 50 fury talent, was severely bugged. I'm not sure what caused the bugged state, but I think it had to do with dueling (the way you kill something but it doesn't die might have to do with it) but basically what happens is the buff stacks an infinite number of times, allowing you to do absolutely incredible amounts of damage (think millions). Also it wasn't expiring for some reason, because each time you attacked the buff was refreshed (which also wasn't supposed to happen) so if you continue killing stuff, you can continue doing massive damage. Before blizzard fixed it, people were able to literally solo all the end-game instances, capable of one-shotting even nefarian or kel'thuzad.

Woosh. That's one helluva bug to go unchecked, even for such a short period of time.

The determination of WoW's players to find and use exploits has never ceased to amaze me.

Well poop. I've been doing nothing but AV lately, and I've still yet to win even ONE. 0 wins, 31 losses. It'd be nice if I could even win one. Just one. It's all I ask.
Alternatively, I've been reaping the benefits. In my quest to finally get an IBS, I came in on an AV that took maybe took 15 minutes to end in victory.

Strangely emough, on Alleria, the Horde wins AV in equal amounts. I forgot what the strategy was according to a guildmate, but I believed it involved zerging everything, and keeping a few at guard.

I think.

Oh, and I am an Orc Hunter, not a Shaman.

Im playing an Orc Shaman on Wildhammer, named Prntscrn, and I was wondering if I should get and use DW as soon as possible or if I should wait till I'm closer to 60 when I have access to much better gear, or just not get it at all and stick with my 2 handers. Currently I'm 22 and going for 2H enhancement build.

I don't think I've mentioned it before, but my hometown friends had made me play WoW with them. I humored them and bought it (this was over the summer), played for my free month, and quit - by this time I was a level 50 priest (I had made the most of that month).

I quit because I did not want an MMO to consume my life as it has every WoW/EQ player I knew (I'm an EQ veteran -- also what my friends played before 2005 -- and I want NONE of that ever again).

So I was visiting them a couple days ago and lo and behold, they give me a 60 day WoW game card. I hear pvp and such (honor system, talents) are much improved and from what I can tell, it's true.

After getting my interface mods back in order - I sorely miss Serenity (priest Necrosis) and a non-buggy Benecast - I ground ST for a while and have found it surprisingly fun ... but pugs still suck :(

I have a guild of players -- actually one of Durotan's top raiding horde guilds (I got in because they were my guild in EQ way back before WoW existed) and hometown friends I may never see again -- I go to college in a different state and my family is moving -- pushing me to get 60 etc, but I don't want another MMO to consume my life.

Is WoW rewarding in short periods of time, on and off, at 60? I realize the impending expansion is going to change all this, but I don't want another EverQuest, where you could only advance a character past a certain point by playing long stretches and devoting hours and hours each week to huge guild raids. A casual player literally couldn't get past a certain point, and that point in character progression was extremely gimp, blocking all the new and cool content from even being attempted.

If I'm going to play a game because friends/guild want me to, I want to know if it can be enjoyable if played casually, because even if I do play this some more, I'm not going to devote huge amounts of time to it.

This is actually the question I'm waiting to see answered with the expansion in mind as well. As badly as I want to play it, I don't want to spend the money on the expansion and the first month only to find out it won't be rewarding for the amount of time I would actually have to devote to it. I don't think there will really be an answer until a little while after it comes out.

Well, I got banned from the forums of WoW today. The reason? Spamming and trolling the General board.

Now, all I did was made a mock topic about how Priest healing was overpowered. First one, I didn't realized until too late, was deleted as a "warning". I didn't see it, so I thought that the process didn't go through, causing no thread to be made. So, in massive stupidity, I made another. 3 posts, Banned and locked.

So, what am I going to do about it? Nothing. It's only one day, and I shall wait until the time is up, and post on like nothing happened. If anyone tries to yell at me for it, I'll just say it was a joke that I realized too late it wasn't funny to anyone, and I will not try to do that again.

If I find the CM who banned me encouraging them to berate me, then I shall report the CM, and hope she is properly punished for her abuse.

Mini-blog from a beta tester that should help with answering your questions. I'm excited, because about every zone in BC will have a 5man instance, built in wings, so it'll be real easy to work thru them and get what you want, instead of trekking thru the same 2 hours to get the one boss that you need.

My guild is not raiding material (unless you count UBRS), and we have a hard enough time scraping together enough ppl for ZG, so I'm looking forewards to the inclusion of many more 5mans. We are growing and stuff, but still, it can be frustrating at times. I roll with a gnome lock on Staghelm, demo spec, with about 330 +shadow damage or so with buffs. I'm looking forewards to being able to upgrade my gear pretty quickly and easily, lemme tell ya. Shame it gets released a week after I go back to school...

When was the last time a game took days from your life on a set schedule because you had to either raid or do hours and hours of PvP grinding just to get decent gear? Point being is that WoW is a colossal waste of time as opposed to any other game you can pick up and play at your own leisure... but then again some of us have work and school outside of WoW, so I guess that doesn't apply to everyone.

The problem is that you are generalizing, which is an idiotic thing to do. There are people who waste away, spending all their time playing WoW, but there are people who spend all their playing other video games, watching TV, or reading shitty romance novels, none of which offer any objectively "better" rewards for devotion. Then there are the people who very easily lead normal lives while still, gasp, playing WoW, because they enjoy it. And please, don't try to feed me any crap about how "you can only be good if you spend 20 hours a week raiding for epic gear." You can say the same about StarCraft, in which you can play casual games or spend six hours a day perfecting your Zerg strategy. There will always be different consequences for different people in different situations--so don't diss the game, diss the fools who abuse and break it.

I can see this and I don't even play WoW any more. Now GTFO.

Additionally, the "you've got to either raid for hours and hours or spend hours and hours PvPing" mentality is a cliche' and not actually the case. With the changes to the honor system and cross-realm battlegrounds, casual PvPers can still attain the best rewards, it just takes a little longer. Casual raiding is a little more difficult to pull off because it requires a guild suited to that sort of thing, but that will change with the expansion, and it's already doable as-is. I and virtually every one of my friends play very little compared to most players but we sign on and get shit done in a fast, efficient way.

WoW is for when I have downtimes in my social life.

Or, as it was recently, when I have budget restraints. Over time I have realised that WoW is cheaper than me getting bored and becoming an impulse buyer.

I don't spend all my time playing WoW. I spend my time where I have nothing to do playing however.

I completed many things last night that I've been meaning to finish for a while:

A) Got the last 1410 rep needed to become Exalted with Zandalar Tribe. Got a sweet neckpiece, too.
B) Finished collecting the last bit of materials I needed to get to 300 jewelcrafting. It's a long list (and expensive too).
C) Cleaned out the junk on my characters so I'd have space for all the cool new stuff in the expansion.
D) Got my 3rd PvP item on my druid so he runs faster in cat form :)
E) Leveled my Fishing skill to 300. My suggestion: find someone as crazy as you if you plan to do this grind.
F) Leveled my Cooking skill to 300 (thanks to the Spotted Yellowtail in Booty Bay).

I'm ready for the expansion. Are you?

Several other friends are making blood elf paladins as well, and we are creating a guild called "The Fab Five". We plan on giving fashion makeovers to the horde who need them. If only we could help fix people's terrible posture..

I played my shiny new FEMALE BLOOD ELF PALADIN up to level 14. Funtimes. I like the BE starting area and ghostlands is pretty slick also. the BE starting area is enoooooooourmous. It was extremely populated, but it wasn't a big deal because all the mobs have about a 2 second respawn time. I also got on my hunter and went to outland just to check it out. I have never seen so many epiced out players in one place at one time (there must have been 300 guys lvl 60-63 in thrallmar at any given time). Also, hellfire peninsula is freaking huge. And I like the eternal battle against the demons right outside the portal, that was a nice touch also.

It was all fun and games till the server started lagging and I got disconnected. 3,149 person queue (3 hours) to get back in. Illidan is pretty fucked, and the free transfer period is already over. Hopefully they bring it back or split the server because this is absolutely fucking ludicrous.

CT_RaidAssist and CT Mod let you do that as well. I rarely raid, to be honest, and I disable the whole bar-moving-around deal, but it does remove the artwork (if you have the bar moving option on), and give you some other nifty features. The mass-mailing one is a must, for when I'm mailing 20 stacks of bullets from my engineer to my hunter, and it turns your buff/debuff timers into bars, and organizes them by duration, which is handy. Like I said, though, my guild really doesn't raid, but if we ever work up enough people for it I figure I'll have it on hand.

I did use a nifty mod called DoTimer, which lets me track how long my dots (I play a warlock) have left, before they wear out. Sadly, it hasn't been updated since 2.0.3, so I'm keeping my eyes on that one.

Unless you plan on switching to jewelcrafting, probably not. Basically all you get with the expansion is new content in Outland, new characters, and jewelcrafting. Other stuff, like flying mounts, are only obtainable and usable in Outland. So if you can't make it to Outland yet, don't bother. Keep in mind though that it'll be a long time before Burning Crusade's price drops, so while it won't directly benefit you to get Burning Crusade until level 58 (when you can first go through the portal), it won't hurt you much either.

Just got back into it, after 3 months of WoW sobriety, I caved in and reactivated my account a few days before the expansion, and luckily enough, picked up the last unreserved copy of BC from all local stores within a half hour of driving distance.

I can say I'm very much impressed with the new content so far...the dungeons are just leaps and bounds more fun than old ones...perhaps because the new dungeon bosses now act more like raid bosses (magic effects and curses which keep you on your toes, new unpredictable actions, etc.)

Even the Outland overworld is more exciting than most endgame overworlds before the expansion. Such a great improvement from an already great game.

I'd love to get back into this game while my PS2 is busy chewing up and scratching the shit out of my games, but the latency from the on-campus connection is extraordinary. I'd be lucky to play with a ping <1500.

Also, I've heard there are way.... waaaaaay too many Blood Elf paladins.

I doubt many will get out of the 30-40 level range, but there are a lot. I think it's extra noticable because they are in the same level range at the moment.

I rolled a blood elf mage, but that's because I wanted to make him my main. The only other character I have at the moment is a level 27 troll rogue, made in December with the purpose of making money for my mage when I was able to create him. But yes, Eversong Woods has been packed lately. I read somewhere that Blizzard now has dynamic spawn rates depending on how many people are in range of mobs (or maybe just bosses, I'm not sure), so for any of the quests I did, there wasn't a lot of downtime waiting for respawns.

EDIT : I'd like to add that when I've seen the 494000 exp needed to reach 61, I was worried, but when a quest gives 10000 exp (lol, don't expect to see that often) and a 59-60 mob 900-1000 exp, it's fast. And... Err, maybe the Blood Elves are cute, but be sure I'd like to enjoy the game and not be 70 at the end of the month !!!

And I'm thinking of Battle.net. Christ, now I have to reactivate as soon as possible. And whether I stay my Tauren Hunter as main and level to 60 or roll a BC toon, I'll need to pick up BC as well. There goes $55 out of my next paycheck...

Started exploring Outland with my main today. I was one of the few lucky ones who didn't have the rested exp taken away, probably because my character was inactive from months without touching WoW.

I never got into endgame raiding either, which is a good thing considering I got superior equipment within a manner of minutes doing the first quests in Outland.

Also, it just occured to me that almost all of the Blood Elf music sounds very similiar to the Blade Runner soundtrack, just less synthesized. There's also some Film Noir influences, but that was in Blade Runner too.

Man, I don't even know what to do with myself in this game. I'm almost to 55, at which point my confusion over what to do if I run out of shells is solved, but after that it's going to be a sort of aimless grind to 60... there's hardly even anyone looking to do instances right now, despite Shadowsong being so overpopulated, because most everyone has jumped to Outland already and won't see the light of Azeroth for a while.

I'm thinking I should just abandon these quests in Mara, ZF and ST that I've been holding onto for the past year and a half...

I don't even know what guild I ought to join if I even could without being 60 at this point. Maybe I should take the transfer to Blade's Edge and see how things look from a fresh perspective.

It has been hell getting groups for instance for my BE paladin, and that is with the influx of all the new BE alts, so unless you wanted to wait until people caught up to you, just quest until you are 58 and then hit outland yourself. The amount of EXP and the quality of the items you get there is crazy, and then you can meet up with pretty much everyone on your server.

I have been using a super awesome leveling guide to keep things efficient, and have not only done a bunch of quests that I missed on previous characters, but have cut my levelling time in half.

I bought TBC. :( Halfway to 58, and then I can find out if this whole thing has been a good decision.

I've been collecting some 57-60 greens from Outland off the AH, and damn are they good. The "of the Bandit" mod is godlike for Hunters (as is, IIRC, "of the Beast.") Also, I bought 57 req Felscale Gloves (HUGE agi + attack power bonus), looking at the great set bonuses (crit rating for 2, stamina for 4), only to find out the other pieces of the set are 61, 63 and 66 reqs, and are leatherwork recipes anyway. While this is good news for my obtaining them in the near future, I feel like I wasted about 3g. Meh.

Illidan is back in working order. Dunno what Blizzard changed but it works fine now, no queues or lag.

Anyways I'm 62 now, doing some quests in Zangarmarsh.

I think I'm doing something wrong though, because it takes me an amazingly, amazingly, amazingly long time to level. 58-60 was nothing, I did that in one 8 hour session. 60-61 on the other hand.............................................. .............. /wrists. First mob I killed yielded something like 500xp, so I checked my stats mod to see how many kills to level. 2429. So it took me 3 days of endless grinding and quests to hit 61. 5 more days to hit 62. I figure I'm looking at a solid week to hit 63 (two days into it so far). Meanwhile, my guild leader goes from 61-64 in a day... what the fuck is going on?

That seems odd. It took me a couple of hours, not even focused on grinding, to go 58-59 in Hellfire. With rested xp, every mob yielded over 1k xp, and quests were giving 6k-9k xp each (I only turned in about 4 quests, too, plus the silly travel quests they give you right out of the Portal to get you out and about in the region). I can't speak for 60+ yet, so... I don't know.

I'm going to try dual-wielding with my shaman. The quartermaster in Hellfire Peninsula sells a very nice blue axe with 1.60 attack speed, and it's One-Hand so I can get two of them. The Orc +5 axe racial will also help.

From what I've heard you can put Windfury on both weapon, and Shamanistic Rage will proc much more often giving you a lot of mana.

Also, I find it interesting that Thrall is in Nagrand and Orgrimmar at the same time. THERE'S TWO THRALLS! Oh, and Nagrand world PvP is awesome. Way cooler than Hellfire Peninsula or the joke that is Auchindoun.

One is obviously a body-double. Enemies of the horde would take advantage of the warchief's absence!

So I got the expansion the other day and have been making routine trips to on-campus locations with solid wireless connections to play.

I entered Outland once I hit 58 on my main and made it to 59 in virtually no time at all (once I stopped being ganked every two minutes or so, which still happens).

So far it's nice, as pretty much all the quest rewards have saved me oodles of cash by replacing outdated greens and blues from pre-expansion (Even my Tier 1 items, IBS, and DHC are on the verge of being outdated). The items with + to mana regen have remedied my previous problem of expending too much mana with the Aimed + Arcane Shot cycle, and the additional armor is nothing to scoff at.

Hellfire peninsula is quite possibly the ugliest zone in the history of MMO's (Tied for first with Ascalon from Guild Wars: Prophecies), but the rewards are too nice to avoid going there completely.

Currently working on getting the 30 marks from each BG to get an epic mount, which doesn't seem too difficult right now, though getting the money for the lessons will be a different hassle (not to mention sitting through at least another 7 AV's, much less getting into them). Got about 8 from each in one brief night, and I have to say it's nice that there is no longer a wide gap of survivablity between the regular 50's and what were the epic 60's (which have now gone off to the 60+ BG's and arenas).

One big problem though is the unending problem of Warlocks. I don't want to jump on the "THEY'RE OVERPOWERED WTFFUXXORZ BLIZZARD!?!?!?" bandwagon (especially being a hunter and having hardly any room to talk there), but I've laid down shot after shot, crits and all, and hardly even make a dent on those cloth-wearing, fear-casting sons of bitches (No offense to and Lock players here). Every single time I go up against a Lock one-on-one I've been grabbed by the ankles and sodomized by their axe-wielding pets, DoTs, and fears. I have virtually no strategy against them as it is. I tried denying them their mana, but by the time the DoTs and the pet are on me, it's already over. I've tried nailing them with Aimed + Arcane + Multi shot and Serpent Sting (straight out damage), but their HP is simply ridiculously high. Upon asking some of my friends what to do, the only advice they could give me is "Run.", which also hardly ever works due to Intercept Stun.

Does anyone have any tips on fighting Warlocks? It's pretty disappointing being the sole flag guard, Shadowmelded in the corner, getting the complete jump on a Warlock who is three levels lower than me, and still losing the fight.

Even my Tier 1 items, IBS, and DHC are on the verge of being outdated. Blah blah blah I'm a night elf

My IBS was the first thing I replaced when I got to Thrallmar.

LOL Night Elves. I think I'll go gank some right now. Yeah, that sounds good. SHADOWMELD CAN'T HIDE YOU FOREVER.

Oh, and I make about 400g a day just from quests and vendor trash in outland, so uhh, yeah...

Also, if you plan on doing AV, whatever you do, DO NOT DO WHAT I DID. DO ALL YOUR AVs BEFORE 61. 61-70 AV is as broken as broken gets. Several reasons:
a) Nobody queues. Because it's broken.
b) Archers/Bowmen now have a range of 200 yards and do 1000+ damage per shot. Broken.
c) The flag guards have 15,000hp each and do ridiculous damage. Broken.
d) The captains, lieutenants, and basically all elite mobs have hundreds of thousands of hitpoints and will one shot you. Yes, including your MT. Broken.
e) I sat in an AV at level 63 for an hour. Not one flag was capped. Not one elite was killed. Neither team could make it past either bottleneck at SH or IB, since the 1000 damage archers would kill them in mere seconds once they got within 200 yards.

So yeah. AV after 60 is a joke.

What the hell? I've made maybe 150g in all my time in Outland, and I had to spend 60g of that on 58 and 60 skills. Is there an exponential increase in value as the zones progress, or are you just playing the shit out of this game?

Once you get to zangarmarsh, and then even moreso in terrokar and nagrand, the amount you make will start increasing pretty significantly. I made enough to get my epic mount in about 6 hours in zangarmarsh. Also, it probably helps that I have 300+ mining and 375 herbalism. Oh, and save all those motes you get. I get like 9g for vendoring crap ass green weapons with shit stats. And they drop quite a bit. And when you find them with good stats, you can usually sell them for 20g or more.

So I finally got a ranged weapon upgrade after using the blue Guttbuster since level 40-some, and it was a bow. My bow skill was 160/305. I went to Blasted Lands for an easier time training skill and found the Servant of Razelikh (sp), which is a 57 quest mob that doesn't die unless you do the quest procedure (gets down to 1 health and stays there). Damn are those things great for training weapon skill. Let pet grab aggro, fire fire fire, mend pet to full when he gets down to about 1000/5000 health, and by the time he needs heal again I have full mana. Got bow to 285/305 before it was too slow to warrant, and then I got a few melee skill levels too.

Then I went to Ramparts in Hellfire, was almost up to the second boss (dragon rider), and all the instance servers on Shadowsong froze. One by one they started crashing, and when I was able to log back in our group was broken and it was about to port me to Shattrath before I was booted a second time, after which I couldn't log in because "No instance servers are available." I logged into my BE alt just before the guild DM run crashed as well, and shortly after that Shadowsong went offline entirely. Everything's back up now, but so much for our Ramparts run.

Huh, my account vanished.

Anyway, currently guildless on Illidan (I made a parody guild of Angry called Mildly Discontent, but only as a joke while I was PvPing with my friends in Angry). Anaericus, 66 Undead Mage. I got the expansion the day it came out, but I've been playing with a few friends on Shattered Hand (they're all new to the game, and we all started from scratch). I've been getting more time away from that server to level on Illidan, though.

I find it a bit strange that you had such trouble leveling past 60 at first, Suzu. So far I've been knocking out each level in about four hours /played, give or take a bit considering campers and the like. Was it your downtime that was killing you, your damage, or what? (I feel like a cheap prick because I crit over a third of the time with fire and can occasionally two-hit mobs my level.)

Also, my friend Ceo was the first 70 on Illidan. I'm not sure whether that's an accomplishment to be proud of or what, but I certainly thought it was rather cool. Except she's trying to ditch the character now; she's powerleveling a blood elf mage to 70 and hoping she can switch mains in her guild (her current main is a druid, and, well, every guild always needs more druids).

Well Ty, I decided to listen to my Burning Crusade soundtrack and you're right, the Outland music DOES sound a lot like Diablo music...and I guess with Matt Uelmen composing it that makes a lot of sense.

Matt Uelmen (born July 31, 1973) is a composer. He is best known for his work in Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo series, which was recognized with the inaugural Excellence in Audio award by the IGDA in 2001. He also worked as a sound designer in StarCraft. Recently, he composed the music for the Outland areas of the 2007 release World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.

60-63 isn't taking nearly as long as you described, Suzu. I didn't check /played before and after but I swear it's been a matter of hours (not days) to get halfway through 62 as I have.

I really, really hate how much PUG tanks suck. I swear, if I get into Ramparts with another one who can't manage to grab the dragon as he lands, I'm going to snap.

I think it was the shit gear I had. Once I had replaced all my crappy level 40-50 green items with Outlands quest rewards, I started levelling faster. Like I said it took me a long ass time to go from 60-64. But I did 68-70 in one evening.

Now to scrounge up another 5000g or so for my epic flying mount. The regular flying mount is so slow... :(

Also, there's a lot of weird areas I've noticed that are only reachable by flying mount, especially in Blade's Edge Mountains. There's even named mobs in the Blade's Edge Mountains. Namely Terrordar the Tormentor, some huge ass Eredar guy. But there's no quests for any of these areas. Weird.

Nagrand and Blade's Edge Mountains are both very Diablo sounding. Netherstorm, especially when in the cities there, sounds very StarCraft-ish, which is an awesome touch. Hellfire Peninsula on the other hand, has more of a classic WarCraft feel. Sounds like WarCraft 2. The other zones don't particularly sound like anything, but are still cool.

I've been ganking people while I wait for the rest of the realm to catch up... dude... ganking in Azeroth at level 70 is oh so very wrong. I went to Hillsbrad, thinking I'd maybe gank a few lowbies while I wait to get a CoT group (for OLD Hillsbrad, no less, kek). So during my gankfest, I decided to go down to Southshore to see if there's any lowbies hanging around the outskirts of town... then I noticed something. Something evil. Something awesome. The guards in Southshore are level 45 now. That's right. Level 45. HUGE mistake on Blizzard's part. I can now one shot them.

Needless to say, no Allies got any questing done for the next hour or so, while I systematically (and repeatedly) killed every NPC in the town of Southshore. Flight Master, Quest Givers, Vendors, you name it, they all died. A couple more 70s came along and joined me a bit later, and we took out the elite guy in the town hall. Horde officially owned Southshore. And God said it was good.

Instances are some of the worst XP in the game. You'd be better off finding a nice camp of greens or yellows and grinding if you don't want to quest. I only do instances when I'm bored and need the change of pace (most PUGs make me change my mind very quickly), want a specific piece of gear that I think would improve my progress enough to warrant stomaching the aforementioned PUG, or it's the first run through and I have 5-7 quests I can get done, making it equal or better XP than soloing.

This is, of course, assuming you're in a PUG or otherwise inadequate group. Get a nice group of friends/guildies who know how to keep pace, though, and instances can be a far better grind. Especially 58+.

I'm up to 65.667 and finally got my epic (riding) mount a few days ago. Since then I've already got another 200g, so I hope not to have any problems picking up the normal flying mount when the time comes. Nagrand is a godsend for a skinning Hunter. Bind and grind, skin and win. Halaa is a nice touch, too.

Just take a look at the test realm patch notes and you'll find all kinds of nerfs. The most hilarious section is druids: -40% armor in bear form, +30% stamina instead of total health, -20% Mangle damage... holy hell is it going to suck when feral druids are brought down off their high horses.

I wandered into the warrior forums and laughed as they feasted off the druidic tears.

My guild has no druid tanks, so this really doesn't impact me. I feel it's a problem, though, when a supposedly "hybrid" class can tank better than the class whose primary role is being a meatshield.

So, here I am a World of WarCraft: The Burning Crusade owner. Paid in full $40. Now, as most people here know, I have a (now) level 44 Undead Priest.

So, today I got bored with the grind and knowing the Blasted Lands had creatures from levels 46-50 something, I decided to go on an adventure to the Dark Portal.

I fly on down to Stonard, hop on my mount, treck on down to the Dark Portal, rush up the ramp and BAM....I go through it...but I'm still in the Blasted Lands. WTF? Big message stating "You must be level 58 to enter the Dark Portal."

Whoa whoa whoa whoaaaa. You're telling me I can't even SET FOOT into Outland unless I'm level 58? What the crap is THAT about?

Now, I know what you're probably thinking. "You're leve 44, you're gonna get RAPED in Outland, you have no business being there." Sure, I'll get raped in Outland, but guess what? I PAID for Outland. TO be more correct, I PAID for an entire new continent that's roughly the size of both the existing continents to explorer and enjoy at my will.

Guess what? I'd get raped in the Burning Steppes. I'd get raped in some parts of the Hinterlands. I'd get raped in a lot of places, but you know what? I can still walk through them AT MY LEISURE and I DIDN'T have to pay extra for it.

Sure, I can be a dreanei or a blood elf and go to their new towns and areas. Big fricken whoop. So I get to level from 1-25 in 2 "breath taking new areas" but once I finish up Ghostlands it's RIGHT back to the Barrens and Ashenvale and Thousand Needles until I'm fricken 58.

That's some SERIOUS bullshit, Blizzard. Seriously.

AND ON ANOTHER NOTE:

The reason I got so bored with levelling tonight is because I tried to run Ulda and my computer locked up 3 times. Now I know what you're thinking there: "That's what you get for upgrading to Vista."

Well here's some statistics for you: My video card is a GeForce FX 5200. While crap, nVidia still totes it as a "Vista essential compatible and ready to go!" video card.

http://www.nvidia.com/page/fx_5200.html

But there's a catch...FX cards aren't up to date with the most recent drivers. Only GeForce 6 & 7 cards are still being updated to iron out kinks with Vista and anything before that is basically "Yea...it'll work...with a lot of problems...but we'll maybe fix it...eventually."

ATI, on the other hand, is getting all their Vista compatible cards (with pixel shading and all that crud) fully up to date and functional.

So Microsoft is not so much as fault here so much as fricken nVidia. F-U nVidia.

I can't wait until I get my 2.36 Ghz MacBook Pro next month. Then I'm gonna whoop some WoW ass.

Rama, I believe there are still ways to glitch into Outland that Blizz hasn't normed. Grab a high level friend and try a 'lock summon, mage port (to Shattrath City), or meeting stone. One of them should work (and did as of last week, last time I saw a lowbie in the guild show up in Shattrath).

I've really got to hand it to Blizzard. They really know how to make their games in a way that the requirements are relatively low (Remember Starcraft?). Of course, this only increases their potential target audience. But it's really nice to know that sometimes you don't need a fancy computer to play a game. But especially with an MMO game, it's important to find some balance between connection and processing power to minimize any horrible bottleneck. But apparently, their servers are the main bottleneck.. or so I've heard.

Yea, WoW ran fine before Vista and Vista drivers. Then it started freezing in full screen (with still good frames on full settings) so I had to switch to windowed. Now windowed is starting to freeze more and more.

You say that, but I dunno sometimes. I was suspended for 3 hours for shooting people from a roof in gadgetzan. Ohnoes, pvp on a pvp realm! But if a mage uses slow fall to kill me while I'm flying, forcing me to spirit res, oh that's fine! Or if players queue for the arena in gadgetzan and then start killing lowbies as soon as the enter arena button pops up, and enter the arena before the guards kill them, that's just dandy too!

ANYONE (stealthed or not, i did it as a mage) can hug the wall and grab the container containing the key, it is on the left side when you look at murmur (his right). It is located on the first ledge, behind a protuding wall, you can see it if you are in front of murmur. When opening the container a elemental will spawn. You can kite him back to the front of murmur and kill him with 2-3 people, without going out of his aggro range. The elemental has 20k hp and hits clothies for about 800-900 regularly.

If you die the mob will return back to his container, the container will disappear, however the mob will not despawn. If you die for some reason or aggro murmur in the process. Just come back in and he will be waiting for you.

Blizzard also nerfed the amount of people that can loot the key at one time, you used to be able to switch out members for others to have a maximum of 2 groups (10 people) loot the key. It is now only possible as of the recent patch that only 5 maximum are allowed to loot it.

GG ALL!

If you're in Azeroth/Kalimdor, attacking people in places that are impossible for guards to path to is against policy, regardless of your realm type. The mage thing is fine. The arena thing is shady, but what the hell are you doing in Gadge anyway?

Did they lower the maximum number of characters you can have on an account in the patch today? I tried making a bank alt, but it said I have too many characters, so I deleted a number of unused alts on other realms, but it still says the same shit, "you have reached the maximum number of characters." wtf mate? I would have posted in the customer service forums, but the WoW forums are apparently down as a result of DoS attacks from all the nerfed druids and priests (not that I blame them).

I don't know about the character limit, but damn does the druid nerf suck (for everybody PvE-wise, not just them). It's pretty much impossible now for them to deal any damage in bear form, and forget tanking. It's become a last-ditch effort to prolong their life a little bit, if they run out of mana to heal themselves or need to give the healer extra time to get one off. Looks like Blizz definitely wanted to take the tank out of the druid.

Well, the damage dealt in bear form really was overkill; they had more health and armor than most warriors and could still do more damage than them while in bear form. I understand that they generated most of their threat through DPS, but their ability to tank would be easily restored if Blizzard would either allow them to Lacerate a ton more mobs, or tweak their abilities to generate more threat.

Of course, they didn't do this, so as it stands now, bear tanks are pretty much useless.

And Suzu, I believe the character limit is per-realm, not cumulative. How many characters do you have on Illidan?

I have 6 now. I was finally able to create another toon after deleting about 12 more characters. It seems like they did decrease the maximum number of characters. :/

Also, I agree that bear DPS was out of hand, but what they did was terrible over correction. All that really needed to be done was decrease the damage of mangle, and they should have left it at that. But then they went on to decrease their armor by 50%, significantly reduce their HP, broke savage fury, and turned predatory instincts into crap. Now not only can they not generate threat, but they can't mitigate damage nearly as well either.

The priest thing is totally overblown though, Prayer of Mending with no cooldown was amazingly overpowered, and a 10 second cooldown (as opposed to the 20 second one on test realms) isn't too bad. The shadow priest nerfs do suck though, as if they didn't cause enough threat as it is :/

You gotta question the timing of the huge druid nerf alongside a huge warrior buff. It's almost like blizzard is saying "dear druids, thanks for taking over the tanking duty while all the warriors specced arms to level. but now that there's enough level 70 warriors, we'll be forcing them back into prot spec and taking your tanking ability from you now. can't be having any dps warriors, shadow priests, or feral druids in end game instances you know! thanks."

I play a warrior on the Akama realm.

Yes, before this latest 2.0.10 patch, I'd have to say Bear form Druids were too much and Warriors needed some help. Just having any Druid stand toe to toe with me and bring me down 100 to 0 without a single shift was wrong. Since bear form is supposed to mimic warriors in a relative sense, so even though as a warrior, whenever I just stand toe to toe with people and trade blows I should be winning, it makes sense for a Bear form druid to be able to stand there against me. But what wasn't right was how it was simply stronger than I was when it was just a single form of the druid class. So it did deserve a nerf.

Since the patch, I haven't seen how Druids perform since either: They were nub druids and always will be nub druids and continue to to attempt to take everything from 100 to 0 in bear form. Or they respecced OOmkin... which I continue to think needs to be buffed, as even as counter-warrior Moonkins are supposed to be they are enjoyably easy. Or I just don't see them altogether, not many Druids.

However, I can not make sense of how my warrior changed so dramatically. Yes, we got a rage buff... however, anyone with experience as the warrior class should know that rage acted as a line. If you had enough rage, you used your abilities as fast as the cooldowns let you. Essientally, you were limited by cooldowns, not rage. If you did not have the gear to meet this line, you were gimp and needed to upgrade your gear. Now this line wasn't very hard to meet, and I knew I was already past that line. The 15-20% rage buff, while visible to any warrior, only real effect was lowering that line. Rage still plays a more crucial role in tanking than PvP and added uniqueness by being unlimited like energy, and only started at 0 instead of 100.

With that being said, I am concerned about actually being overpowered. It's crazy to think I could go from such extremes so quickly. How could it have happened? 1% chance to crit buff? Now, my performance in PvP is something that I'd expect... if I were in epics. I'm not in epics. I'm in largely outdated gear w/ a level 66 green weapon I bought from a vendor in Halaa. Look up Eten in the Armory if you're interested.

At this point, I fully expect a coming of a second "Arcanite Reaper glory days" for warriors. Only the weapons are the BS crafted epic weapons.

Question for the gurus out there.

If I give in to peer pressure that's kinda been on and off the past year and a half to play this darn game, what race and class would you suggest? Overpowered and easy to play for a newb would be a bonus. I can play healer or tank or whatever role from my experiences in other MMO's, being useful in the lategame and/or PvP also a plus. I tend to prefer hybrid classes to fill many roles but specialization not a problem if it's feasible.

From my little reading I'm leaning on Draenei Paladin/Cleric, or Undead Mage/Tauren Druid (not sure which side will be focused on since my friends tend to jump around on both side).

For hybrid classes in WoW you got Paladin and Shaman.

Paladins are focused on defense.
Shamans are focused on offense.
Both are support classes, but can gear up (and through talents) to be good in healing, melee, and magic damage.
In endgame both are usually support healers/main healers as healers are always in short supply.
In PvP pallys got the toughness, heals, and buffs to be the bane of enemy players. Shammys in PvP mostly lays totems and holds off/DPS the enemy from casters and can range cast themselves. Just remember that both classes are support and are easily pounded down if you try to charge in and be a "hero".

Druids are hybrid classes as well, doing a reasonable job at healing (caster/tree form), dps (in cat or moonkin form, as a rogue or mage respectively) or tanking (bear form).

Shonen Samurai

The best way to go for new guys is a rogue. Fairly simple play mechanics, no mana to keep track of, self-replenishing energy resource, high DPS.

Triad Orion
04-11-2007, 10:47 PM
Personally, I found it eaisest to go Warrior with my first character. As Shonen pointed out, you have no mana to worry about, only rage. It's pretty good at learning the early mechanics of the system and it's a class that has good survivability in many PvE situations as long as you don't get overwhelmed.

The tricky part about being a Warrior is while it's fairly easy to understand basic mechanics, tanking and being useful in instance dungeons is much more difficult and requires some instruction. You also have to be willing to accept that your DPS isn't going to be as high as many other classes unless you go into Fury.

Basically, I would suggest using a warrior to learn basic things about the game first, then going back and re-rolling into a different class when you're semi-experienced, and then you can go back to your Warrior later once you are confident in your abilities to tank and effectively hold aggro.

Druids can do all those jobs as good or in some respects better than the said "dedicated" class. All by just switching forms. Druids are just an everything/utility class to fill in for a missing class in groups (Most likely HEALING lol). Blizz really screwed with bear form recently though making it harder to keep aggro and lowering bear dps.
Shammies and Pallys cannot really expect to match up to be great at all of those. But a Druid will be able to gear up for any one of the forms.

That's a quality of Alliance as well, and could probably be attributed moreso to the general lack of organization in pickup battleground groups as a whole.

Though in general, I'd say that Arathi Basin is substantially more conducive to teamwork and organization, since everyone is pretty much relegated to either attacking or defending a base -- which doesn't require a whole lot of attention to detail.

BTW, is it just me or has there been a sharp decline in the interactivity or players recently. I haven't been in a group with any of my characters unless it has been someone I've known for a good while.

Blizzard started sending patch information ahead of time so that when patch day comes, they don't have everyone hitting the patch server(s) at once, plus you won't have to wait to apply the patch. The patch won't actually be applied until patch day.

This possibly means 2.1.0 is coming next Tuesday. Not bad.

FYI:

THis patch is MASSIVE

Every class is tweaked (rogues all get improved sap, now the improved sap talent will increase the range of sap and blind, while reducing the energy cost... This makes me rather happy)

New 70 flying mount areas are made available. You can kill ogres threatening Shattrat, fight in the flying city above Skettis (or so I heard) and help the consortium in the prison of the Ethereum.

The Black Temple is open, and it is apparent a huge BRANCHING dungeon. You do fight Illidan, but you only are a nuisance and you simply slow him down.

A new boss is added in one of the aunchindoom instances... not shadow lab, the one in which you get the shadowlab key. This boss is part of the epic flying form quest.

In addition, a quest chain will be made available for the netherdrake mount.

Read the patch notes, this one will be rather impressive.

(and well, they are doing some unique tweaks which may indicate a level cap increase sooner than expected or an additional source of talents.)

Party members will no longer see a hunter who is feigning death as actually dead.
Awww... there goes nearly half the fun I get out of this game.

Players will now be able to access the Looking For Group Channel by joining the Looking For Group/Looking for More tool.
Thank GOD.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the numbering system works, but this is more like a 2.5 patch. It's actually bigger than the pre BC patch.

The Author

As far as it was previously, numbering is like this:

X.X.X

X._._ for games

_.X._ Content patches

_._.X Fixes (uses the beta numbering too, so you can go from 1.0.1 to 1.0.34.)

1.X.X was World of Warcraft

2.0.0 was the Pre Burning Crusade patch

2.0.1something was the post BC fix patch.

Now we should get 2.1, the first BC content patch.

And at 245 meg, it is not the biggest patch. I do believe that honor goes to 1.4 which was (IIRC) the Diremaul Blackwing Lair Honor patch. Followed closely by 1.5 which was the Battlegrounds patch.

Also, the reasons why I suspect a level cap or talent point increase is due to some odd fixes between impossible combinations, such as Cold Snap reseting Dragon's Breath and such things.

Lots have happened to me on the land of Azeroth.

My mage (an alt) finally reached level 70, and she has her first epic ever, the Frozen Shadoweave Shoulders. I am once again guildless on bloodscalp, and well, I don't care.

Because I started playing a Blood Elf paladin. While I had a level 39 pally, I never really got into it. Now I'm planing to make her a healadin, as with my 4 friends we will have a decent group, and whiel we have a priest, she decided to go shadow, since she has been a main healer for about 2 years now. (I have to admit, going from rogue and mage DPS, a holy paladin is kinda slow.)

Anyway, the reason I am posting is that I recently did a quest called "The Lady's necklace". I recommend you all do it. It's simple. You get a random drop, report it to tranquilien, and then to Undercity. Then something incredibly cool happens. I recommend you turn up the volume and listen to the music. Sylvanas sings in the High Elf language. It's a rather haunting song.

AND I WANT TO HEAR IT AGAIN.

So, while I know I could extract the song from the proper MPQ, I don't know how to do this. I hope one of you may either have the song or that you could explain to me how to do it.

It's called "Lament of the Highborne", for the BC soundtrack. If you notice, all versions of the Eversong Woods background music are based upon this one song, some even in The Ghostlands, sort of.

If I find ANY source of an MP3, I'll be sure to post it here.

Oh, and if any of you guys visit the WoW boards, a CM named Tseric has left after a tirade about Shamans, I think, leaving Blizzard a new job opening for a Community Manager. Looking at said thread, and based on my opinion and the boards as of late, I think Tseric's rant against trolling was deserved.

Yay for people putting in input when not knowing the details.
It isn't just the shaman that went off on him.
Also, who the fuck cares. He went and mouthed himself off one night, which caused a lot of people to go and retaliate. Imagine it as if Darkesword went on the boards one day and just said how he hated everyone and every poster annoyed the hell out of him.

He was a rep of blizzard. Since he was a rep, he should not have mouthed off at all. That and he was a liar anyways, so fuck him.

Yay, now I can try and get a sword for my rogue. I have a pretty good blue (Ced's carver) but I am finding the dagger style lacking now. I kinda want to move back to swords but none seem to be equat to Ced's

Shonen's a GM who works for Blizzard, irriadin. He (sometimes) knows what he's talking about. If you think he's brain dead, you're probably right though.

If you mean by sometimes, 99% of the time, then yes. As for him being brain-dead, it doesn't take a lobotomy to realize that the issue the kid is experiencing is one of three things.

1. Interface corruption stemming from modified code left over from the last build. Yes your add-ons probably caused this. It happens when you try to update before resetting your user interface.

2. Memory allocation issues, again likely due to use of modifications or add-ons pre-2.1.0.

3. Corrupted game files. This can happen over time with or without the use of add-ons or modifications.

All three of these issues should be resolved by your standard Reset UI procedure. It'll be pretty great when a game master tells you to do this and you'll give him lip, or not do it properly, then claim it doesn't work. Eventually they'll tell you to run your repair.exe, which will reset your UI, and it'll magically fix your problem. Gee, I wonder why.

did he take the first ones from a gnome or something? geez.

I havnt played in about 2 months. My server is a release server with a bad history of amazingly outnumbered horde, so i'm workin on other stuff and just suspending my account. I'd transfer to a coworker's server, but he's on a PVP realm.

I think it's pretty much the end for me; its been a cool 2.5 years but I actually want to play with other people and that just isn't happening. :/
