pretty straightforward, but rocking nonetheless.

i've only heard half a million rock versions of this theme ;).

good stuff, six.

Yes, it is very close to the source, and if I were a judge (God forbid) I would have gone the NO vote. That's not to say I don't like it- what it does it does very well. The solo towards the end does rock. Good stuff overall, but I wouldn't have thought this would have passed based on arrangement.

I'd have given it a yes, but I lean further towards the "What sounds good" spectrum as opposed to focusuing on having a "different from source but not TOO different" arrangement. And there's no arguing that it sounds good. Very good.

Mage-approved. Rocking stuff. Solos towards the end sounds like arrangement. Rest is, for most intents and purposes, a cover. Solos kick arse by the way.

Not the greatest, but far, far, far from the worst. Held from a 7 because it didn't sound meaty enough to me :P

Yay another CV rock song, not a moment to soon either :D

This stuff sure rocks (i don't mind that it's very close to the source material), when it's THIS good.
Like the others said ,great solo at the end !

I am going to start off, by agreeing with the others; the end solo does indeed rock. I would have, however, disallowed posting of this until something was done about that god awful organ. After hearing the excellent treatments to the theme in Wicked Orchestra and WickedestChild, it made me cringe to hear the drowned out organ. This would be a solid remix otherwise.

I like it... I've been waiting for this to be posted for a long time... Congrats Sixto!

Why is every Castlevania song rock-metal? There are other genres, people.

Too close to the source material, not enough new arrangement. And like drk said, the organ needs more love.

I'ma have to say no.

OCremix needs more rock.

This piece fulfills that need.

Therefore it wins.

loved this in the WiP forum (the thread was fun to watch!) and ive heard a bit of Sixto's stuff and this guy is quality. I like this version... it mightnt stray too much arrangment wise, but its got zing style the original didnt have. Or pa-zazz. you know, that unnamable quality that creates awesomeness...

I think the one thing that makes this great is the visuals.... i can almost imagine (especially at the begining) opening credits for a castlevania anime. All it need is some guy singing about destiny and reaching the stars...

Why is every Castlevania song rock-metal?

More of the same isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Also, I have a Castlevania 2 cathedral organ solo over at VGMix, if you would be so kind as to check that out. Not really the best thing ever, but it does prove that there are people out there who don't do metal (:

As for this song, I agree with everyone in the thread so far that it is indeed rockin'.

Sticks a little close to the source material, though. Would really like to see what kind of originality Sixto could bring to some future remixes.

OCremix needs more rock.

I like this remix, its just awesome. But for some reason I think it has more to offer. Maybe its the mixing or the structure.. I donīt know. It needs a bit more energy for sure. The intro is so awesome and big. Then somewhere along the way the song seems to kinda lose its grip. The solo in the end helps the situation though. Maybe this just doesnīt grab the listener by the balls like this kind of songs should.

Iīm not a big fan of the organ either, but I really like the overall sounds and the vibe, this is definitely a great remix. The guitars sound awesome.

And yes, the solo at the end DOES ROCK.

Needs MEAT.

STILL a great remix. Thank you.

OCremix needs more rock.

because that's what most of the older songs translate best into.

Because Castlevania is a rock-metal game-series :P

Like... Metallica S&M or something :) This remix was kinda plain. It's been done before and will be done again. Its only problem is that it isn't particularly heavy. More "live" castlevania metal! More lyrics! Considering what metal lyrics is usually about I don't think the challege is that great :)

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO MORE SINGING!
Anytime I hear a new mix start off fine, only to find that it has vocals in it, I just think 'Why? Why did you ruin this promising piece with vocals?' And I immediately stop listening and never listen to it again.

"Good" singing already sounds terrible enough. Don't encourage people with even less training to ruin their songs.

Anyways, back on topic, after listening to the song again a few days later, I think that it would have been better to just replace the organ with the guitar. It would have to be majestic-sounding and require a lot of skill (ā la goat), but from what I could tell from the solo, this guy could've done it.

This CV remix is pretty good. The organs with the harpischord back up I thought didn't go along well with the rock guitars because it just isn't a "meaty" enough instrument, if you know what I mean. I would probably go with RandLan's idea of switching the organ with another guitar. Other than that, this remix is quite good. Nice solo at the end by the way. 8)

I love remixes that don't water down the melody of the original material. And what a sin that would be with Castlevania! This remix deserves its praise for tight arrangement, for a great new presentation of a memorable CV melody.

I'm not sure why Castlevania turns so easily into rock-ballad... This one is solid, of course. Though, it's a bit too much like the original. The end has some interesting organ and guitar wailin' but, there should be more throughout. And where's the vocals? I wanna hear some guy screaming in there to fill it out.

I never played much castlevania (I dabbled. Just never found it worth my money) so I might not notice the obvious similarities to it's original but I like it... sort of. It has a nice eighties hair-metal feel to it with a creeper dracula thing going but I've heard this too many times to listen to it a lot. Final verdict? Shuffle- yes, Mix CD- no.

Well sixto, you've done it again. Rocking me till my socks are off and my feet are bloody. This song is very good. Not the best I've heard, and you really should have used a more powerful, less electric organ, but you have shown the world you are the master of guitar solos. I bow before you now and your wicked guitar skills in this song "Wicked Six"

I never get tired of this particular melody. It's just got power.

Good job playing off that power and making an energetic, rock-out-with-your-cock-out remix.

Just as I expected, Sixto. Almost pristine production. I do agree that the organ was a little too weak and drowned out in most parts, though.

I also agree with DJP that perhaps you shouldn't have waited until the very end to display the significant arrangement modifications.

This theme has been done so many times (especially in this genre) that it takes something real "new" in order to avoid simply being "old hat."

Damn, am I the only one that really digs the organ sound on this? I've always thought that kind of an organ went really with distorted guitars, and big scale runs sound so fucking slick on it, but maybe that's just me. Either way, this is a really cool mix that's a lot of fun to listen to. It's not particularly heavy, and is more in the realm of 80's metal like was said before (like 2 years ago or whenever), but it sounds good. I'm sure every Castlevania song ever written before the PS1 came out has been covered as a rock/metal song, but what the hell, it sounds cool and vampires totally listen to metal when they're not eating people.

Nope... Me too!! Even more than the guitar... Major paradox, because I'm a big fan of Sixto as a guitarrist.

How did I miss this before? I've had it, but I haven't really listened to it. I have iTunes on random right now and that opening drumhit woke me up. The guitars sounded familiar, I ctrl+tabbed over and it's WICKED SIX! Sixto Sounds! Here I thought I had heard all his stuff and "random" hits me over the head with this piece of sonic awesomeness.

The organ surprises me, but it works. I love hardcore, loud organ stuff and I love hard guitars. It's like putting chocolate and mint together in an ice cream that blows your head off with a sawed-off shotgun as you hurtle to the canyon floor from the highest heavens. But it's a holy shotgun and the solo at 3:21 breathes life back into you, causing a new head with WINGS to sprout from your necky stump and you go flying off into the setting sun where your body is vaporized but your essence becomes part of the universe.

Yeah, I like this mix.

When I saw this one on Sixto's list of remixes, I thought "Wow, this song's awesome, Sixto's a hell of a guitar player, so it's probably be one of his best works"
It turned out that I didn't liked it that much and I still prefer MegaDriver's version, but it's a great song anyway. It's Sixto's after all, you can't go wrong with him.

The new version of this track that Sixto did is much better than this (though this is still awesome, of course). Too bad he doesn't have it posted up anymore...

I've looked on Sixto's site and wasn't able to locate the revised version of this track. If anyone has it would you let me know where I can find it? Maybe you can email me?
I think, on the whole, I'm a bigger fan of this song than most as I have a fairly robust aftermarket speaker setup in my car and the production on this song simply wailed. ("Crucial Taunt? They Wail! Yea, the lead singer's a babe. What about The Shitty Beatles? They suck!")
So I became a fan of production despite arrangement. I'm glad the decision to post this was made. Considering it was Sixto's first submission I side with the line of thinking that future submissions would only be better, and given this starting quality, that is a good thing.

woah, debut sixto?! Slick production, as per usual, and some well chosen sounds to go with the metal guitars. Basically this is exactly the sort of professional, but mostly by-the-book sound that i'd expect to hear in a really good official arrange album. Actually, compared to the Dracula Battle official series of album, i'd say this track outshines the competition. Great original organ solo and then guitar solo. Conservative arrangement, but damn does this track kick ass.

Classic Sixto, I love it. Come to think of it, this was the first Sixto track I downloaded as well. \m/ (Whoo! Useless nostalgia!)

This has the usual Sixto level of production, which to say: high-level as always. Good to see that the organ was heavily co-ordinated with this piece along with the guitar. That being said, both solos made to rock out. A little to the original track in terms of arrangement, but who cares? It's Sixto, and it's awesome.

Great tune, this is what a Castlevania remix is meant to be. Granted, the production values aren't up to par with Sixto's newer songs, and that snare is annoyingly loud, but these are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things. Another favorite of mine.

This is a very awesome song, and it's saying something seeing as how I've not posted something in a very long time from the different downloads that I've gotten from this site. At points in time -and I'm not sure why- it is very Sonata Arctica-esque. Good use of power chords and the organ is wicked. I haven't checked out many of Sixto's mixes before, but now I know I'm going to have to. Keep up the excellent work, man.

Ah, Sixto's debut.

This mix is a bit of a landmark point in ocr's long history for this reason. :P

This is pretty rocking, as per Sixto's usual as we came to find out, and the source is a classic if not slightly unoriginal (castlevania music lends itself to rock making it a very obvious style choice to a remix) :P

However, I wouldn't say this remix is sixto's best work by a long shot. The remix is a slightly slower tempo than the source for a start, which makes the track pod along at a fair pace, but it doesn't get me excited particularly. The nature of the arrangement will however cause a lot of people to enjoy this one as a cover with good production and impressive solos is all many will want, and in this respect, this remix succeeds brilliantly.

For some reason, the drums are particually loud in this remix, too much so as they can distract from the technically impressive guitar solo later on where this remix really starts to shine. However, for a debut remix, this is great stuff.

A solid debut mix from Sixto, but nothing jaw dropping imo.
Reccommended if you like castlevania music or rock music :nicework:

This is still the best thing i've heard on OC. Sure the melody's are straight from the source material but it really doesn't matter. If i'm ever to post a remix on here i would want it to sound along the same lines as this. Rock on \m/

The way I see it, a good remix is a good remix, regardless of how changed it is from the source. Disqualifying this remix solely on the grounds of arrangement just seems idiotic to me, because this is a fantastic remix.

What a fantastic debut. Very close to the original, but its such an enjoyable mix. Really captures the feel of the original source but seems to highlight a longing and melacholic emotion. The steady tempo definitely contributes the most to that feeling. Regardless of there being less personal interpretation arrangement-wise than newer mixes, there is still a hell of a lot of sixto's personal touches here. There is no denying it holds his characteristic style. I think any Castlevania fan would spend quite a while with this on repeat.

Ah, Sixto's first mix. It's not bad, even by today's standards (and comparing it to his more recent mixes), and it's an enjoyable listen. It is a bit too conservative, but I think that gives it some of its charm. Good job here though. :3
