EDIT: HOORAY VICTOLY!
Now that I got first review, might as well mention that this song truly is pretty. A little trippy at around 2:00 but awesome none the less.
Yes I know, Arek makes shitty reviews.

You already know how I feel about this one Tepid. I love it. Very soothing. The transition into Sol Sanctum is excellent.
Also, I'm glad to hear that drums were still left out for the OCR submission because I always felt that drums would be out of place in this mix.
Edit: lololol I'm an idiot. I heard those bongos. Very tasteful.

:o I didn't gush at you over at VGMix. How odd.
Ah, I see what you meant by remastered - I also hear additional tracks methinks :)
Hmm, odd .... the transition to the Golden Sun part seemed a bit at odds in this version...seemed more natural in the first version I heard. No matter, doesn't detract any.
Eh? WTF at the FX at the end?
Ah well. All in all, an improvement on the VGMix version. Glad to have downloaded it :)

Oh, I so want to leran the Zelda lullaby on piano, I just have to find the right time for it.
Great remix from Tepid, the fact that heīs a newcomer just makes this better, itīs marvelous. The acoustic guitar puts a more relaxed tune to it, mellow, enhances the sleepy tunes in this lullaby. It goes over to a more rougher style, but the beauty stays with it. The electric guitars(I think) gives it more passion to it. Who knows, maybe Link and Zelda has a thing for each other.
Very good remix, I canīt really stop pointing that out. Tepid, if you find some freetime you donīt know what to use for, continue your work.

6 days is 'one of the longest gaps in posting'? That can't be right.
Harping on this piece for repetition doesn't seem fair to me at all. It takes the original in a LOT of new directions. This is a really pretty piece...
I feel like actually posting full thoughts on it:
0:03, anyone else catch the echoey laughs there? Not bad... but could be better. I like mood setting sfx like that... even unto full quotes of dialogue in the minute length range. 0:07, the lead guitar is panned heavy left, which sounds nice against the arpeggios heavy right. Immediately you're into 4 parts and some sexy bongos; LAOS likey.
1:05... eee... we're taking the melody that high up already? I'd prefer notes that high to be saved for either a mandolin or the climax of the song. And it's around here somewhere that I realize the bongos are fake... I can tell from the way one beat focusses over in the left ear. 1:34; these arpeggios and the synth that starts in are a delicious pair, it's a new spin on the theme.
2:00; the obvious and furthest dillineation. Aaand I hear we're into some electric guitar. AWESOME. The track wouldn't be a pass without this part in it.
3:11, it's hard to tell, what, if anything is backwards... that's always good. Perhaps some backman VST was used to help keep the transitions in between forwards/backwards more seamless. 3:38, the fast playing... as it always would be with playing that fast is a little mute-y. It works though, I'm glad you didn't mess it up more... I certainly would've. One of the highlights of the track for me is at 3:51 where the accompaniment does a little soloing. Some great note choices in there. Plus a somewhat sudden and unpredictable ending; come 4:04 you think you've got a good 4 or 16 bars left in it at least... turns out to be 2 and then the ending is this nice fluid note-filled... thing. Awesome.
4:13... *sigh* Why!? That sample isn't even from Zelda 3! Sampling games for songs has been little more than a gimmick in the past, why would this be a good time to use it? The notes in that sample are famous for a mysterious revealing of something, usually a door, but not only does the sample go against the key of the song, but it ENTIRELY clashes with the mood the piece was going for in the first place.
I would've been more content to hear an orchestra hit there, or some turntable action. If the samples at the end and the beginning (laughing) were switched, it would MAYBE work, but this doesn't. I think tacking that sample on the end was poor form, and poorly planned out. And what bugs me the most is that I'm sure at least 3 or more knuckle-heads will disagree with me... applauding like retards saying: "Daaar! I know that part! It from game!"
Bet you didn't expect two paragraphs of flack about that 10 second decision huh?
Overall, a delicious new favourite of mine. Very comforting, very dramatic, very emotional.
9/10... docked to an 8 for the importance of sample choice.

Wow. Production is incredible, and I don't think the arrangement is repetitive at all. What an awesome piece. Your chops ain't lukewarm, Tepid.

"Daaar! I know that part! It from game!"
No really, that was probably a bad choice, it does clash with just about everything else in the song, but overall, not a bad mix, consider it playlisted.
Second: Why isn't the song listed in the info-page? Minor glitch or future standard of doing things around here?
Thirds: Laos must have a really good ear, cause without him showing me where, I never would have heard that little 'mute-y' part in there, really top-notch imo, can't hear it too well, but it seems really good. Keep up the good work, and come back with more.

You know my opinion about this song already. It's just Tepid at his best. Wonderfully dreamy and peacefull...
Which is strange, because you told me you were more of a hardcore guy when we first spoke hahaha!!
And I still think you did this song becausesome girlleft alone in the past!

It's amazing how people keep reworking this track and getting new things out of it. I think more than anything else, Tepid has realized his vision for this tune in a very competent manner. I get the impression that he knew exactly what he wanted, and got it.
The textures are indeed, something rather special.

Good job! The only thing I don't like about this are the sound bytes at the beginning and the end. they're a bit too hokey. The whole mix reminds me of the style of the album "God Shuffled His Feet" by the Crash Test Dummies. That's a good thing, because I love that album.

Liked the mix, thought the entry of the electric guitar was magnificent. But not quite sure about the musical choice of the sample at the end.. while it meant something as a tribute, it really changed the context of the song as... well.. a song by itself. Oh well.. Still good.

I haven't heard a good Zelda remix since I've joined OCR. Everything that's been made in the last year has barely peeked my interest. They haven't been able to compare to "A Storm in the Desert" or "Ancient Hero" by any means.
I'm glad to say that this has made it into my list of Top 5 OCR songs. It's very charming and sweet, and the secondary melody at 2:00 is very beautiful. The ending is unique, making the guitar sound more like a harp, and the cute little Zelda midi added on at the end leaves the listener in a cheerful mindset.
This is an excellent remix. Download it now.

Actually, no. It was in ALTTP, but only for a short while when you first take her from the dungeon at the beginning, I think.

This Zelda mix is very good. It's so calm and relaxing. I haven't heard a good Zelda mix for a while, but this is just great to listen.
Great work on this remix. I can tell that lot of really good decisions were made when piecing this together. I'm especially impressed with how such a simple piece can be transformed the way that it was. Excellent work!
Two things bothered me though:
1) The transition at 2:00 seemed a bit forced to me. I think a more gradual transition into the electric would have been better.
2) The sound FX at the very end didn't seem to fit the piece at all. The giggling FX in the beginning made for a pretty neat intro, though.
Other than those two items, I love how well this remix flows! Definitely a quality remix worth keeping. It's very relaxing yet not boring - it seemed to cast a romantic aura as well. And as GrayLightning described, the title also fits well. Great production, Tepid. I'm very impressed with this. :)

This gets much better further through the song. On the outset, I was thinking, 'gah, stupid Zelda lullaby cover', but it kept building up to the great electric guitar section at 2:00. I compare this to one of the other acoustic Zelda mixes, Saint 420's SoS (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01045/), and where that song tended to delve in repetition, this one manages to spice it up a bit.
And the end. Daaar! I know that part! It from game!

Thanks for the feedback guys, it's a great welcome to the site. You'll be glad to hear this is my last mix before I upgrade Home Studio 2002 to la Cubase SX 3 for xmas with a Roland VG-88 (and possibly Reason 3) :D
The song was great to make. Since I don't have a decent sequencer, I made most of the electronic bits with my guitar effects pedal. For example, the screaming synth like things were done with a distorted wah patch and an e-bow, heh..
Anyways, thanks again for the warm reception, it's good to be here :)

Problems:
- Rhythm guitar work is very sloppy.
- Some of the sections have conflicting chords playing.
Anti-problems:
- The tone of the acoustic guitar is awesome.
- Soft and sexy throughout.
- Excellent take on Epona.
-The electric stuff sounds great (rhythm problems aside.)

Love the guitar layering at the beginning. Crispy
The electric section is not as great, but that's proably because I'm just not a fan of electric stuff in general. But overall, great song, great layering of sounds, etc.

Hehe, I had this song back when it was still a WIP, and back then I was impressed. I've only noticed two modifications since then; the two SFX at the beginning and end. The first effect caught my ear in a good way. That little giggle made the piece even better. The whole piece feels light-hearted and dreamy, yet nostalgic and sad at the same time, and that little giggle fit perfectly with that theme.
The whole song is really nice. A lot of the awkwardness, - i.e. the off-beat strumming, muted notes, etc. - seemed to be done intentionally, or at least they weren't removed intentionally because they were wanted there. I think you said it best yourself when you said, it's "human variety rather than human mistakes." The mistakes add to the very natural, human feel the whole piece flows in. I really love how deliberate and intentional everything is. Makes this mix simple, yet stunningly complex. Very nice electric guitar in the "interlude" of the song.
The only gripe I had was with the last SFX. I know it was intentional, and it did make me smile, but only after I flinched because it was in the wrong key. You could have transposed it and played it on guitar yourself, and THAT would have been freaking awesome. But hey, that gripe is only two seconds long, which is a minor complaint considering how great everything else is.
Overall, I was very impressed with the WIP, and still remain to be impressed. I'm really glad this mix got to see the light of day. Great work Tepid. 8/10, only because of the dumb, out-of-key jingle at the end. Otherwise you'd get a 9. Great work, and I hope I get to hear more from you soon.

Aah. Beautiful. Kire kire. This has to be the best remix of "Zelda's Lullaby" on the site. Such a soothing tranquility and a certain romantic grace. I closed my eyes and listened to this. I saw Zelda dancing by the sea shore. Then night fell (the 2 minute mark) and her dance escaladed as the stars illuminated her dress and her eyes. *sigh* But that's just me. Great stuff kid! A rose for Zelda, and one for you too.

When I listened to the song for the first time, I immediately liked the beginning. But when the electric part at 2:00 started, it really freaked me out; I was very disappointed. But after I listened to the ReMix a few more times, I actually found the electric part to be the best one! It's so passionate, so sad, and so touching, it's simply great.
And although the sample at the end doesn't fit into the ReMix very well, I think that it is a nice way to pay tribute to the game.
Great work, definitely one of the best songs on OCR.
(And Kudos to LAOS, I didn't hear the laughter until I read about it in his post)

When I was judging the piece, the sound effect hit me as a bit odd, but in the end it felt like it was a poetic gesture to the song. Since if the sound effect is played when you save zelda at the end of a dungeon, then in this case the effect at the end of the song would symbolise that "a rose for zelda" won her heart too.
Even if that wasn't intentional, it adds something deep to the mix for me.

Ditto (except for the judging the piece part). It only could have been better if it were in the same key as the song. That would have been awesome.

I would've never imagined Zelda's Lullaby to be remixed into a song of this style. It's very calming and nice, and the ocean sound effects add to it's peacefulness. The guitar really, really does this song justice, I can't describe it, it just fits so well.
The giggle in the beginning just sold me. Haha I don't know why, I just loved it when I heard it.
The part at 2:01 with the electronic elements, it turned the song from a "thinking on the beach while watching the stars" kind of tone to a "why am i alive, what must i do?" kind of tone. I loved it, it added a sort of melancholy feel to the song.
Every bit of this song I loved. Bravo man.

You know what this song reminds me of? Rather, the picture it gives me? I can just kind of see a newlywed couple just dancing on a beach patio. Just kind of enjoying a quiet dance together, albeit clusmily, but still it doesn't matter to them. The giggle kind of really helps set that mood for me, of them just being in love with each other. Then as it goes on, they just kind of float into their own world, into that place where they are all that's in it. The offset non-perfection of the guitar patterns help to set it, too.
Nevertheless, how in the world could I not have seen this when it was first debuted, I'll never know. What a great picture it gives me. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. 10/10.
P.S. sound effect lol.

The minute I turn this song on, I am immediately swept into it by the waves. It starts out relaxing and low-key and then the mood changes. It's multi-dimentional in terms of emotion, and that only allows the listener to connect even more to it. Ya, I second what the last three posters have said. Well done. It's beautiful.

This song is so melancholic and sweet. Just bursting at the seams with a feeling of, "Everything changes. Even you. And there's nothing you can do about it." The way it breaks off into a swell in the middle just accentuates the mood, branching off in new directions as the future possibilities lay themselves out before you. Things change, but maybe change is for the best? Maybe loss contributes to wholeness.
Maybe... The potential is sweet, and so are the memories, but things have changed, and maybe that won't happen. Is the dream of the future as important as the future itself? Is it more important if you'll hope for something wonderful when the future looks so dim? To motivate you, keep you pushing forward when you really want to sleep.
A sigh and a dream at the edge of the sea. A prayer and a hope while cutting the rope. Dangling, dangling, then falling from me; and into a newness still yet undreamed.
Everything changes. And nothing will ever be the same.
First review from a long-time lurker. Three years or so long, heh.
This has always been one of my favorites. One of the few five-starred mixes on my playlist. It has that dreamy and relaxing feel to it. Like other posters have mentioned, I envision someone sitting on a beach, with miles of sand and ocean as far as the eye can see. I get the feeling that something isn't quite right, but whatever it is, life will go on.
Great piece, heh.

The arranger is very adventurous in his usage of new chords, but he does this very well. Love the usage of accoustic guitar.
At times in the music, there seems potential for a celtic arrangement. I could almost hear a celtic flute like in Lord of the Rings or something. Maybe even a lone bagpipe... :-P
Great work!
This is an awesome and gorgeous piece of music. It giives me a moving yet mildly depressing feel, as though a great adventure had come to an end and yet nothing really changed to make the world better. A solitary emptiness.
Nonetheless, despite how much I love this piece, the quality seems mildly lacking in a couple parts. No big deal to me, but it is there.

This has to be my favorite mix on the site. I love this song so damn much. Everything is just so relaxing and emotional all at the same time. Guitar effects were AMAZING. I especially love the big buildup starting around 3:00, and then at 3:28..................it's one of my favorite musical moments of all time. The reversed guitar and piano intertwine in a tragically beautiful way to create this feeling that you were just about to grasp someone's hand, and then you're falling into nothing. Incredible. Leaves me with chills every time. Outstanding work Tepid.

It definately thrusts Zelda's Lullaby into a Wind Waker style, even though Zelda's Lullaby already had a great Wind Waker treatment in the Wind Waker. But thankfully, it comes in much more focused here, great guitar work.
The melody shines brighter than ever in the initial portion of the mix. When the sound gets bigger and the electric elements come into it, I was a little thrown. The transition isn't 100%, although I didn't really notice it at all on my second listen. And I felt the narrative of the piece was a little disjointed. Zelda's Lullaby is a peaceful, reflective song after all, and I didn't really get the full connection between the acoustic and electric sections. With big sounds come a lot of different emotions: sadness, elation, love, hope, defeat. I can extract all of those from the music, but I'm confused as to which, if any, fit with the song. A stronger establishment of concept may have helped here.
That's a minor gripe though. The samples were irrelevant but I liked that they were there anyway. Overall, strong work on a track that deserves a lot of love.
This is amazing; I can't believe I haven't heard this yet.
Hearing Zelda's theme on guitar is astoundingly beautiful.
If you haven't heard this yet, shame on you. Go download it now.
Mournful, longing, love-filled, saddening, remembering the happy times.
This is the kind of mix that can soften anyone up inside.

I thought I'd already commented on this before... strange.
One of the most poignant, thoughtful, and meaningful remixes on the site. From the moment the song starts, you feel swept away into a journey of emotions and contemplation. It's rare that a song has the power to completely capture my attention and actually allow me to get lost in the music. I don't have the eloquence of some of the other posters in here, but some of the assessments have been spot-on about how emotional this track is.
Personally, I like the SFX at the end - it feels fitting, since the entire track is so engrossing and captivating, that there be some sort of release at the end of the song that sends you back to the real world again. It may not have been executed in the right key, but it still feels like a satisfying conclusion that brings you back down to Earth after the song had done such an amazing job of taking you away to someplace else.

Signed up just to say how much I loved this. It's probably my favorite remix I've downloaded from this site. Truly great job giving this old tune a new flavor, and I love the Golden Sun--very subtle.

I like the electric guitar layering near the end of the synth interlude (?)
very beautiful
This is really peaceful and beautiful, with a great middle section. The ending drags a little, but I was really feeling this one overall.
This mix is a great lesson to me specifically that less can definitely be more when it comes to arrangements. Oftentimes I get so caught up in creating my own musical filigree that I forget that you can create something amazing with just some basics.
Great stuff.
This is easily my favorite remix on ocremix.org. I've listened to it for ages, but after having recently re-downloaded it, I too was driven to register just to chime in with others on how great this remix is. I can't use words to describe how much I enjoy this song, but if ever there was a song that could convey feelings that I could not express with words, this is it.
This is the one that started it for me. Almost four years ago, browsing the highly rated tracks on VGMix, and being unimpressed by most, I eventually stumbled onto this. By the time the section at 2:00 came around, I was frozen in my seat, ears glued to my speakers; and by the end I knew that there was magic to be found in vg arrangements and that I wanted to find more. A few thousand tracks later, this remains a favorite.
The backmasking around 3:30 was a brilliant touch. It still sends chills down my spine.
I feel like I should say more, but I whatever I type seems to just bog this down with flowery nonsense. So, put concisely: this is one of the most beautiful and moving arrangements I have ever heard.
Thank you, Mr Schwan.
