Super Mario Bros. 2 'Super Buck Jazz'

Estradasphere's cooked up a swinging version of the Mario 2 main theme, whose main highlight is lots and lots and lots of brass, including a great sax solo early on. And damn, does it sound good! These are real instruments people (i'm 99% sure they are, at least), and IMHO, Overclocked ReMix is honored to be graced by this remix. *Does Jedi hand motion.* You WILL download this mix.

I really think this is one of the best mixs on the site. Estradasohere does indeed cook up a very swinging jazz song complete with sax solo and chello solo. I came on this site one day thinking to myself "I could use a good jazz version of SMB 2", and bamn i get this and I have no complaints what so ever, its exactly what I invisioned and more. I really wish these guys would do anotehr song for us Jazz fan out there because they ahve raw talent. I give this song a 10/10 easy. Highly recommended.

Being in a jazz band myself, I can tell you right now, I loved this one from the start. And I how it focuses around the tradional theme (and not going into different beats and stuff). Nice solo section too! :D
Great mix! :)

This song actually inspired a friend and I to make an arrangement of Super Mario 1 and 2 tunes for a group combo of our high school jazz band. We played it when we went on tour, and every crowd went crazy. Who dosen't know the Super Mario Brothers theme? Anyway, this song is mad stupid crazy, to say the least. It should be played on every major radio station world wide... but perhaps that's taking it a bit too far, I'm not sure.

I don't think there is a person on the face of the planet who could not enjoy something as well crafted and classy as this. Great Jazz, it not only hugs the original theme, but does it so well it works by itself. Even people who didn't grow up with mario will dig this, and for those of us who remeber the good old days of turnip tossing its just a blast. One of the best remixes on the site in my opinion.

This remix can be described by only one word. Perfect. Everything about this mix is incredible, from the brass to the bitchin' solos. Not to mention the instruments are real. A nice break from the ordianary. Even if you're not a fan of jazz, you should download it anyways. This is a definite 10/10. Download it now...

This is definetly the best Super Mario Bros. 2 remix in existance. It doesn't mess around with doing (them) fancy techno tricks and just sticks to giving the melody everything it deserves. I can't stop cynical self from thinking that there's something missing in this remix... though my complete and utter lack of music knowledge keeps me saying exactley what it is :x ... 7/8

I was just downloading songs the otherday from OverClocked, yknow, listening to them until you got sick of the regurgitated themes, (essentially it was the original song with a drum beat in the background) and then I stumbled onto THIS. I don't know how they did it, but this not only has one of THE SICKEST bass solos I've ever heard, but keeps the original tune so hopping and fresh that it merely entrances me everytime I listen to this. I've heard it probably 20-30 times so far, and all I have to say is: "By far, the sickest song on OverClocked to date." A must see for anyone that's into jazz or has played Mario 2.

incredible. awesome. amazing. kool in all the sense. the swingy mood and the brass lines are real cool. the sax solo is A-WE-SO-ME. the bajo solo is awesome too. you just cant go wrong, this thing is an amazing piece of swingy jazz. and the band perform it flawlessly, and with a real emphasis in FUN!!! a classic. if you ever played this game, it will bring tears and a fuckingly big grin to your face. if not, it will do it, too. this piece is so good that it could have been there 40 years ago when some band played dixieland. get it NOW.

Cano

one of the best songs in OCR, and deffinately, the best Mario 2 theme by THIS far.

Whoa, what an awesome song. And so well-recorded. It's everything you caould ask for in a big band rendition of the Mario 2 song. It's funny cuz I tried to get my band to do a jazz version of this song as well, with a guitar oriented focus. It didn't pan out, so I'll just have to listen to this song until I can maybe pull that project back together...
Very Nice Work. :nicework:

Wow! I love jazz and this song just does it for me. This is some good stuff! I love this! All the different instruments and everything all playing along with one of my favorite mario beats! I tell ya, when we play in our jazz band at school, this is what i think of. I've already downloaded this. To tell you the truth, i think this is the song that dragged me into ocr community. Wow, this is a great song!

Hi, I'm a Music Ed/Composition major at SUNY Geneseo. This song is truly awesome. Seriously, when I heard it I was in shock. So much shock that I arranged it for Big Band. If anyone wants to use my arrangement, you can e-mail me at mrm12@geneseo.edu and I can send you the Sibelius file. Everything is all written out, including the exact alto sax solo and the bass solo, the solos are transcribed note for note. My high school is working on it currently. So if anyone wants a copy, just email me and I can get it to you.

Isn't the point of solos supposed to be that they're improvised? :P

But yes...amazing arrangement. It's been forever since I've actually heard a real bass solo. They should be proud of what they've done here.

This is my favorite mix ever, and probably will remain so for eternity. Just wanted to say that. Also, I wanted to say that apparently Estradasphere has forgotten all about this, as I asked them about it last year at their show and they all got blank looks on their faces. So much for hearing more of them.

Real awesome, professional jazz here. Perfect execution.

Whenever I was younger I had always thought of jazz as being boring, uneventful music; but after listening to several jazz pieces on this site [i.e. AmIEvil's Battle Rocks, and Mazedude's Trippin' on Snails], I learned that jazz was the complete opposite of that. Now I'm interested in getting a lot more jazz...

Dang, this is one superb mix. Jazz fan or not, this is one of the best, if not THE best Mario mix I have heard so far. Everything sort of flows perfectly into this night-club style Jazz session where everybody is tapping their feet and swinging their heads.

Awesome stuff.

This is clearly the best remix on this site. Many of the posted songs are the result of glamer-kiddies who get their hands on a copy of Fruity Loops and have no feel for the music, and essentially just create a "techno enhancement" that ends up sounding manufactured, lame, and most of the time, I'd really rather just listen to the original NSF.

For this song, however, that is clearly not the case. It did not surprise me to see that this jazz band did mostly other things, "normal music." In their music, they demonstrate a clear understanding of the style, and take a melody that has always been one of the staples of great video game music and follow its natural evolution to give it the proper treatment in the style it was composed in in the first place.

The improvisational breaks, most notably the first solo, are a pure joy to listen to, as they build on the progressions in silky smooth fashion, and the way this performance pulls us back, keeping the intensity at full blast, and expertly builds us back up to their rocking finale leaves nothing to be desired. In the end, its artistry and expertise set it in a class above all the rest of the songs on this site, and far above all but the very best of the rest. It takes something like this to make a listener realize just where the bar should be. Highest recommendation. *****

JESUS CHRIST! WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD THIS SONG? HOWCOME NOBODY HAS MENTIONED HTIS MIX TO ME?!

This is the first REAL non-synthesized jazz mix on OCR that I've heard, and this is some real skill. The sax and bass player have some amazing improvisation. Great arrangement, all the players really can swing. Me being in a jazz band, it's nice to finally have a jazz song with a feel of swing on OCR. Good stuff, I'm really excited. This stays on my playlist for a long time.

I'm currently on a trek to listen to every single OC Remix (well, the one's that have been put up in torrents at least) and I can honestly say that this is, without a doubt, still my favorite OC Remix track out there. The theme music is preserved, yet it sounds like this work is completely original. Not a hint of being forced into the jazz mold and then the jazz itself is top rate. The solos are to die for and just the whole big band feel in general is enough to make this both my favorite and most listened to track.

I give it a solid five out of five sporks and if I could give it more, I would.

*bobs her head continually and taps out that swingin' beat* This one here is definitely a classic. This song is a real treat to jazz lovers out there, and myself, having been a percussionist who's played a lot of jazz songs before, can really appreciate the talent behind this work.

The arrangement, rhythm... everything is crisp, clear, and very professionally done. I could listen to this song for hours upon hours and not get bored (In fact I already did that this afternoon while playing one of my games. XD)! This remix really brings justice to that old catchy overworld tune from Super Mario Brothers 2. Even though the game was my least favourite of the series... it still had catchy music.

Every element of jazz is put together nicely here. From swingin' saxes, to raunchy bass, to peppy and high-energy trumpets! I could easily picture the band just swinging left and right and bobbing to the beat of the song.

Methinks they should submit more of their works. :P

That's all I can really think of to say, but hey, this here song is EXTREMELY recommended! Especially to those jazz fans out there! Listen now!

It's extremely refreshing to see a professional band, with very talented musicians, making a remix like this. I second the sentiment of a previous poster about most mixes on this site being done my gamers who happen to know how to press buttons on a software synth. This shows that there are talented people out there who still care enough to make cool VG remixes.

This, since I first heard it, has been right up there with my other favorite, "Spekkio the Brave" by Spekkosaurus. :)

Ooh-hoo, defensive?
To be fair, that is all you have to do. Granted, he's downplaying the time it takes you to do it properly, but if you're sequencing on the computer, you have all the time in the world. Playing a live track, you're constricted by time.
I'm not saying one requires more skill or talent than the other, just that time isn't necessarily a factor if you're creating music on your computer.

This is a really fun piece that makes me feel like dancing. It makes me want to choreograph a full dance routine to go with it. I especially like the bass section in the middle that utilizes the "pause" music well. I only wish this piece were longer since it's so enjoyable!

Incidentally, this reminds me of one episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, "The Unzappables", in the scene where Bowser's running a jazz club. This would fit in perfectly.

Fantastic remixing. This is one of the first songs I ever downloaded from OCR and I still love it.
