Soundcloud embedding

Great idea?

I mean this is a music board and i tought why dont we have a embed feature, it also encourages newer artist not to use youtube (altho i love youtube sounds, nice and bassy to me).

$$$ (you can only post so much before paying) and YouTube has a much wider audience, but I see what you are saying. The quality is preserved in SoundCloud as opposed to getting compressed again on YouTube.

true, i was thinking from dubstepforums how they can embed and we cant.

wait what? how does embedding soundcloud cost money? There are pretty much soundcloud plugins for everything, and I have never heard of any of them costing money.

I think he's referring to the limit on the amount of music you can upload to soundcloud before you need a premium account. Free accounts only get 120 minutes of uploaded music.

I didn't know that myself, but I think for those that have less than that (or have a premium account) should still be able to embed from that site. Options are everything, after all.

ahh I see, that doesn't mean we shouldnt support embedding. Even free members can use embedding an such. I think it would be a nice feature. Makes it so people dont have to leave the page to view something, which is (but shouldnt be) a big reason people dont listen to other peoples tracks. It especially helps people who need to use mediafire or other crap upload sites. SC can be free, and the free account still gives you lots of space etc.

I think it's a great idea, and also youtube embedding to come back would be nice! :-) I'd be more likely to use youtube for a FINAL song than Soundcloud. But at 120 minutes, that's plenty of time for a bunch of WIPs and some final songs too.

ANY & ALL forum features/changes are being deferred until we move to VB4.1.3, which will re-enable video embedding by default.

As far as Soundcloud goes, good suggestion - it seems like we could do a custom bbcode as per http://blog.soundcloud.com/2009/07/28/soundcloud-player-in-forums-5-step-guide-for-soundcloud-bb-code/

VB4 and the 6th version of the overall site design SHOULD be live in ~2 months.

Autoplay in general, on anything, is ridiculously annoying. I hate when a window pops up behind the one I'm in and starts playing a loud advertisement. Then there's that CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE WON crap. :-P

Wow. I completely failed. I though this thread was about replacing the YouTube OC ReMix videos with SoundCloud embeddings. Similar to how we used to have last.fm embeddings. Personally, I think YouTube is the best option there, and doesn't need to be changed.

On the other hand, as far as the ability to embed SoundCloud players in the boards, I think that would be cool. It would make the WIP board even more productive.

It would be better if OCR had their own player on the site, to just play the mp3 which is already hosted on the site. Instead of an embedded soundcloud player for mixposts. o_O Not a bad general idea though man,

I agree on both sides, something like soundcloud embedding for works in progress, and an OCR player for the songs on the site.

YouTube should still be used for showing to a larger audience.

I think one of the things about hosting streamable previews of OC ReMixes on YouTube is that it doesn't use OCR's bandwidth to listen to them like an embedded mp3 player would.
