View Full Version : SITE HELP: OCR Sheet Music/Tabs/MIDIs

Dhsu

The purpose of this thread is to serve as a central location to provide sheet music or tablatures for applicable OCR arrangements. If you have made sheets or tabs for any of the ReMixes on the site, please post them here, as well as in their respective ReView threads. If you are a ReMixer and have not made sheets and do not plan to in the future, you may also state so here.

And the rest of you...enjoy. :)

NOTE: You will need the latest Finale notation software (http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/) in order to view .MUS files, Adobe Reader (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) to view .PDF files, and the Sibelius Scorch plugin (http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/download/get.pl?com=sh&prod=scorch) to view Scorch sheets. You can open MIDIs in notation software like Finale, Sibelius, Noteworthy Composer (http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/evaluate.htm), or Anvil Studio (http://www.anvilstudio.com/), but if they are recorded performances, i.e. not manually sequenced, and have not been quantized, they will just look like a jumble of notes (you can figure out the notes, but all the rhythms will be off.)

Liontamer Edit: Yeah, good call David. I was literally mentioning to the judges earlier that I was going to start this myself after seeing you post sheet music in the "Clockwork Vampire" ReView thread. I should stress that we should only accept sheet music, tabs and MIDIs written by the ReMixers themselves (or at least verified when made by someone else). We'll try to gather as much as possible, especially for older tracks, so that we can host them for their respective ReMixes, as per my pending proposal to djp. I'm sure it'll be alright, so thanks for getting the ball rolling.

Requests for known transcriptions (please provide a copy here):

klutz has some sheet music of his piano remixes available on his site. I remember downloading 600 A.D. a couple years ago and teaching myself to play it (although my version's much more watered down).

I did something rough for Tomorrow's Wake (http://rexy.herograw.org/music/remixes/piano-sheetmusic) a few months back. I know, it may not be the most tidiest location for a bunch of jpgs, but I hope it serves well as a location until I get access to my FTP again.

Steben mentioned kLuTz. Greg's friend Nana transcribed "600 A.D. in Piano", available in 7 pages: http://klutz.vgmidi.com/music.php. MIDIs of CT "Peaceful Days" (http://klutz.vgmidi.com/music/kLuTz%20-%20CT%20Peaceful%20Days%20Piano.mid), FF7 "A World in Piano" (http://klutz.vgmidi.com/music/kLuTz%20-%20FF7%20Overworld%20Piano.mid) & FF4 "Tale in Piano" (http://klutz.vgmidi.com/music/kLuTz%20-%20FF4%20Prologue%20Piano.mid) are also available.

lightwarmth posted the MIDI and Sibelus Scorch sheet music (http://www.squaresound.com/games/ff9/arrangements/lukenickel_darkmessenger.html) for FF9 "Messenger in the Key of Black" over at SquareSound (http://www.squaresound.com/games/ff9/arrangements.html).

Alright, updated the first post. I haven't put up the links to kLuTz's MIDIs yet because none of them seem to work at the moment.

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone! We're off to a good start. And thanks to Larry for the sticky. :)

I commented with chords for "Town Life on Acoustic Guitar" on VGmix awhile ago.

I have an earlier draft of the midi for "Canvas of Dreams," though I'd like to clean that up a bit before posting it (if I do at all). I will definitely, however, get to work on at least writing out the chords for "Canvas of Dreams."

A question pertaining to future submissions: should I send chords or midis to Larry or Dhsu apon submitting a mix to OCR? Or include them in the submission itself?

Dhsu
12-29-2005, 10:28 PM
For now, I'd just post them in the ReView thread, but you can go ahead and send a copy to Larry as well. In the future, when sheet music is integrated into the OCR database, I would assume including it with your submission would be preferable.

Liontamer edit: If it's in, then I'd say post here and your ReView thread and that's all set. But yeah, once it can be integrated into the database, you should include that in the submission letter in the future. Otherwise wait till it's posted.

I haven't had that problem. It should just convert the file to the updated format(or something like that). I use Finale Notepad 2006. Don't got the dough for a better version.

EDIT: Never mind what I just said.

Just wondering if anyone had good sheet music of BogusRed's songs. I used the MIDIs in a music notation, but as was to be expected, the rhythm was horrible, making it very difficult to play from. Im far too lazy to listen to the song 1,000,000 times and get the exact rhythm myself, so I was wondering if any of you had reliable sheet music

Best best is to mail Susie and find out if she has anything, as in general we really don't have many fans writing sheet music or tabs for work that isn't theirs. But AFAIK what's on her site is the only material that's available.

With that said, let's please not treat the thread as a sort of request thread. But I'll be glad if it serves as an impetous though for others like chthonic to start proving tabs and the like for their own music. Thanks to everyone who has provided material so far, it's greatly appreciated.

I'll never understand why people ask for sheet music from me when it's clearly evident in most of my songs there are at least 3 pianos (at most, 5) at work at any given time. How the fuck are these chuckle heads expecting to play any of my songs? With a few of their incontinent moose-eyed buddies staring vapidly at the sheet music, knitting their unibrows in a vain attempt to understand it all?

awesome concept here. Always wanted to look at some of the music for this stuff.

If you check the updates on his site, some fishy stuff happened around Christmas/New Years. He's been slowly patching it up though (though he might not even know that he is missing the sheet music to 600 A.D.).

http://rapidshare.de/files/12308474/600AD.zip.html

I also have original sheet music to the Final Fantasy VII Piano Collections. I don't know if anyone is interested in it though, but I don't know why they wouldn't be... Yeah, so I'll get around to that when I find the time. Is rapidshare a good way to upload these things? I don't have a server or any web hosting. If not, then give me other alternatives that are effective and free... but mostly free.

I have a large chunk of the work I did for Silent Hill Static Aversion (CotMM and me), but I'm still working on it at the moment. If anyone wants the scraps let me know, otherwise I'll post it when it's finished.

If someone's willing to host it somewhere, I have my Finale file of "At the End of All Things"... it's Finale 2006, though...

Now that it's finally up, I'm happy to share the original MIDI file for "Time's Anxiety" (http://rexy.herograw.org/music/times_anxiety.mid). This follows the VGMix version more than OCR, but what the hell ;)

Anyway, here's the Finale 2006 file for Chrono Trigger "At the End of All Things" OC ReMix:

I have complete score/midi transcriptions for "Battle of Olympus" (Arcadia, Temple and Title screen music). If someone's intrested you might get it if you're nice. But on the other hand if you're a pro you don't need other people who puts the music down to score for you.

Just wanted to point out that Geoffrey Taucer posted the chords for Hale-Bopp's Star Ocean - Summertime OcReMix (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01388/) and Hale-Bopp himself made a little change and confirmed they were correct here (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=63491&start=43).

You have to have Finale 2006 or better in order to open the file. Anything prior to 2006 won't recognize the file format...

I know. I have Finale NotePad 2006, which shouldn't make a difference. I've opened files created in every version of Finale before. Just won't work. Right-Click Save As, and the like. Won't work. It's almost like the link is bad, or something.

Interesting... the file is definitely on the server, at that URL, but I can't open it either... I'll see what I can do...

Maybe they were deleted, since they're available here (http://www.bladiator.vgpiano.com/site/sheet.htm).

Keep updating this list!! There are so many good piano remixes that I'd love to be able to play. I've been waiting for this list and I just found it.

Does anyone have a good version of the sheet music for Nayru's Love?

I can't find a free program that can make it from the midi easily, but I have to admit I'm not familiar with that stuff.

Hm, I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it...the BBCode seems to be correct. Maybe it's just an issue with really long URLs.

If you replace the open parenthesis with

the link should work. Like this:

Kevin Stephens posted his sheet music for Etude in Piano in F# Minor (http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=2681729#2681729).
It should be added to the main list.

I'm surprised the 600 AD music is still up, as kLuTz's site has been down for awhile...

I have the Tale in Piano pdf, and I could send it to someone to host (just shoot me a PM) but be aware that both the 600 AD transcription and the tale in piano transcription DO have noticeable errors...if you have a good ear like me you can pick them out by comparing to the mp3 (though figuring out chords and lots of pedal 16ths by ear can be a -pain-) =p. I guess sometime I should make revised transcriptions of some of kLuTz's works--right now I'm using "modified" versions of other people's transcriptions (modified meaning I used a pencil to cross out and write in notes).

Hey guys, I was bored so I decided to tab out Sixto's Guitar solo in what I think is pretty much the coolest song of the whole VotL project, Scenes From a Memory (On that day five years ago). The fast runs are probably inaccurate, and I'm not entirely sure about the crazy whammy bar note, but it should at least sound decent enough over the backing track.

If people are still looking for it, I downloaded Jenova a while back when it was still up:

http://www.box.net/shared/hu8oy2xzno

I also made sheet music for a couple other songs:

BogusRed's "Into the Golden Sunset" - http://www.box.net/shared/1lrea21g0x

BogusRed's "Beyond Midgar" (in two parts, since having only Finale Notepad limits things...) - http://www.box.net/shared/lvoivnnvxd & http://www.box.net/shared/rpz77plgag

Dhsu and GrayLightning's "Nayru's Love" = http://www.box.net/shared/y9c9xsrty1'' (http://www.box.net/shared/y9c9xsrty1)

These are all PDFs

I'm collecting all the sheet music of OCR arrangements that I can find and hosting it on my site http://loki.sdf1.org/m/s it's not pretty but bare with me until I can find the time to fix up the sheet music page. I'd appreciate if people would send me any missing sheets so that I can put it up to help people get the sheet music they want quickly and efficiently.

My website has a quota so occasionally it may go down because people have downloaded too much. Currently I'm hosting about 10mb so if ten people download every sheet then my site will go down for the day and open up the next. Hope everyone will help me in this endeavor to create a centralized host for the OCR arrangement sheets.

My email is lokasennasam@gmail.com

Just want to put a quick few notes in here:

1.) If you find someone posting a Finale (.mus) file you can't seem to open, you can just go to their website and download Notepad. Notepad is a free program no matter what, and it'll open any files from that version backwards. Notepad 2008 can open Finale 2008 and back. Makes it simple. If I remember correctly, that was the intent so you can view everybody's music (to entice you into buying the other programs) no matter what.

2.) If you have a file that's not manually sequenced, it's really hard to do, but you can get it about 85% of the way to a more "on the beat" piece. It's just have a lot to do with math. If you know the notes you see are three times as fast, you can do a very general duration change (and then have your program rebar, if it can). Granted, this is still very "eh" in the long run, but it helps quite a bit.

3.) For those of you with the newer programs (I'm stuck with Finale and Sibelius, can't get me off them), there are tools to convert from Midi to TAB. I don't know how it works in Sibelius, but in Finale 2007 at later (probably '06, I can't remember though), if you have say a Guitar stave and a Guitar - TAB stave, you can write the normal notation on the Guitar, then copy and past into the TAB, and it will automatically kick out the appropriate TAB! Great what our programs can do these days, isn't it?

'Kay, fixed broken links to my stuff, and added links to my new remixes, as well as Blak_Omen and MC's "Hunter's Etude-Scherzo" and MC's "Scriabin's Long Library."

Can't do much about the other broken links since they're hosted elsewhere, but if anybody downloaded the files before they went down, I'd be happy to mirror.

BIG EXCITING UPDATE 5-20-09
Added sheets for Reuben Kee's "The Place We Knew" and "Ryu for Four Pianos," along with MC's "Dream Shore Fantasie-Sonata" and the OCR version of "Hunter's Etude-Scherzo." Mad props to Sooty for notating these ridiculously complex arrangements!

Hi,
that's a very nice and usefull threat you made keep it up.

Now my question.
Is there any possibity to reup the sheet of The Wingless' Silent Hill piece "There was a Hole in Here"?
I've searched in goolge but it only gave me sites which say "It's not longer availble. Go away" or "Error404 no sheet 4 U" and so on.

Come to think of it I've got another one.
Is there a sheet for Dhsu's "Rainbow Snowland"? Or do i have to do something with the MIDI file?
I know I could ask Goolge how to get the notes from MIDIs but while I'm at it why not asking here too =P.

Edit: Ok I've managed to get the Rainbow Sheets.

Greetings.

I don't know if this has been mentioned ITT before but I would like to request Sheet Music or even just bass Tabs for LuIzA's 'Materia Junkie,' remix on "Under the Rotting Pizza" and "Oppressed People" from Final Fantasy VII.

P.S: If you are not the artist mentioned (in this case, LuIzA) but you managed to tabulate this song, please contact me via PM... Thanks!

I found another site with Cutman Sonata on it:

PS: Dhsu, could you start a similar thread over at animeremix.org ? I would love sheet music for your arrangement of Green Bird (named Blackbird on AR) from Bebop.

you do realize that it's just straight off of the midi, right? the chords, the bassline, it's all exactly as it is in the midi, with some artistic interpretation. and ridiculous solos.

Well, yeah, that maybe true, Prophet, but I have nothing to use to get said notes from a MIDI file.
So unless you can get me a link to a (free) program I can use, I'm still stuck where I am.

anything that'll take a midi and stick it in a piano roll will work. you just play those notes, then.

you could always look at the midi info on a free notation program and then use a pencil and paper to hand-write it out.

I would suggest NoteWorthy Composer (http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/) if you are looking for something to pop a midi into and look at the staves.

Cool, thanks for the link.

Unfortunately I don't have sheets for any of my arrangements on AnimeRemix either. I might try to get a few done this summer, but I really can't promise anything.
