Oh god, suzumebachi has entered the building!
Haven't even realized that you're gonna remix anything from it. Remember you're tune from Rise of the Star which was badass, so good luck on this one ;)

Would it be possible to see a list of tracks currently not being done for this project? So that people could maybe chuck WIPs at zircon? ;)

The list grows shorter by the day, though a few things are surprisingly open (like The Birth of God, and the main theme itself).

If Birth of a God is still open, I'd definately be interested in contributing a metal remix of that. I probably won't be able to get anything significant done on it for a while, but.. what say you? I could put together a demo of some guitar + drums + bass to show what kind of production quality I can pull off if that's of interest.

This project seems to be roughly near completion, much like Summoning of Spirits. What is your intended plan for a release date, Zircon? It wouldn't be good for our two projects to release near-simultaneously. :P

You'll find them on their own seperate web pages. They are linked from the the site. Some of the remixes from the project will be featured on OCR depending on who wants to submit and what gets accepted.
Go to the projects tab at the top of the page then albums to see all of the projects that have been released.
Also on the front page of OCR you can see pictures wuth links to the moost recent site projects. Such as Project Chaos and Blood on the Asphalt.
Welcome dude.

This album looks very promising in bringing more awesomeness to OCR. With some of my favorite remixers (sephfire, pixietricks, SnappleMan, DarkeSword, and zircon) that will insure that this will be a favorite album of mine. Plus all the other remixers joining in. I can't wait till this album is finished and released.

I almost think you shouldn't have given us that sample because it puts even more pressure on you guys. On top of that, it sets a level of expectation from the team. If the rest of the songs are not of that quality, people will be disappointed, where if we got the whole project at once, we wouldn't have expectations that you must live up to on account of the sample provided earlier.

Maybe you should realize that just because someone is a great remixer, doesn't mean that they will put out great songs every time. No disrespect to the team though. I won't name any examples here for fear of building bad relations.
But a classic example is the movie, "Alexander" It had two academy award winning actors, an academy awarding director, and the movie still sucked.

I can objectively say that every single track on the project is unanimous YES worthy on OCR... at a minimum. Many are direct post. I have been strict w/ quality control and some people have made a lot of revisions to their track because of my feedback (and the feedback of others on the project). Now, some of the mixers are going in a slightly different direction than what you may be used to - for example, LuiZa contributed a sort of dirty, gritty ska remix of the slums theme(s). No, it's not a driving, bombastic medley like "Fire Cross" but it's still very good in a different sort of way. Likewise I collabed with pixietricks and it's not like anything you've heard from me before (not really like anything from her, either!)

OCR site projects typically consist of songs exclusively written for the project.. if not, then they're older OCReMixes. Cool links but they don't really have anything to do with this project.

Was that recent submission of "Speed Limit" by sephfire from this project? I know that he is on this team and found it kind of strange that he would submit a mix from ff7 during the production of this operation. A theroy of mine is that sephfire and another started on that song and they both completed it and for some reason, they decided that it would be sephfire that would put it on ocr instead of VotL.

Apologies if this has been asked already (I don't really want to traipse through 34 pages to find out), but has the idea of having a couple of AC and/or DoC remixes as bonuses come about? I just saw AC on DVD for the first time and then right after I plowed through DoC. So I've got that on the brain right now.

It's good... fewer of the definitive themes that Uematsu is famous for and more of the sweeping, flowing, grandiose orchestral-based stuff from Final Fantasy X. At first I thought the music from both games were by the same composer. But it's not.

Just how much of AC's music isn't a form of ff7 music? Probably the fight in the forgotten city, cloud smiles, the really bad song where Kadaj is convincing the kids to drink the water...
What else is there that isn't already covered in some form from FF7?

Hey... I liked that music. Maybe not as a full-fledged song unto itself (that, after all, is why we remix them), but it set the mood pretty well.
Fair enough point with AC, but I was definitely thinking more along the DoC lines myself anyways.

Like I said, most of music from ffac is remixed from ff7, but there are some genuine new ones.
Here's "Cloud Smiles". It's the one where Cloud comes back to life (or something like that) in the pool in the church at the end of the movie. In my opinion, it is better than at least half of the original ff7 songs.

The big black dog that keeps appearing in the film. It hangs out around Zack's buster sword, it appears when Aeris(Aerith*) just finishes talking to Cloud in the white area after Loz and Yazoo do that massive magic attack.
*In the origional version straight from Japan, Aeris should have been translated Aerith. They fixed it in kingdom hearts and advent children, and this has been subject to many questions on why it is currently spelled like that.
Here's "Cloud Smiles". It's the one where Cloud comes back to life (or something like that) in the pool in the church at the end of the movie.
That piece is just way too close to John Barry's theme (and subsequent hit song) from the movie Born Free. For my tastes, at least. Maybe Uematsu is a Barry fan, because it sounds a lot like him in other ways as well.
Oops. You know my project better than I do. :(
Not really, I was just the person who suggested it. ;)

Quoted for the purpose of getting an answer. Here's an idea that just came to me. What if that dog was a test subject for the new software that Square Enix was developing for Advent Children? Maybe they did such a good job on that dog, that they didn't want to waste it.

I didn't like Cloud Smiles so much...
I usually go "Aww he's smiling" and skip the song. *shurg* I think there are better ones. The song being better then half the original FFVII soundtrack is kinda an unfair thing to say... I mean... when did FFVII come out? It's a classic anyway.
The "big black dog" is a wolf. Get it, Cloud's newest wardrobe features a wolf symbol?
The wolf appears in areas that still burden Clouds mind... Zack's grave, The Forgotten City, and so on. I think the signifficance of the wolf fading at the end means it's finally lifted from him... thus going into "Cloud Smiles".
And ya this should stay to ReMix descussion.
That said... how are the songs coming? After I heard that Red XIII theme... I wanna hear more!!

I also must say, that I really love the fact that I am seeing more and more of these albums come out. I've been traversing the site for almost 5 years now, and when the first album cam out I was amazed. Now I can't wait to see what will come out of the wood work next.

Hey... I liked that music. Maybe not as a full-fledged song unto itself (that, after all, is why we remix them), but it set the mood pretty well.
Fair enough point with AC, but I was definitely thinking more along the DoC lines myself anyways.
>: "Black Water" was the whole reason I wanted the soundtrack. After I obtained it, all of the other fantastic songs jumped out at me...but "Black Water" was the only one in the movie that stuck as I watched it.
Aside from "One-Winged Angel", of course. I know I'm being so cliche...but I thought they did a nice job with it. :'3

We're now up to 31 finals (3 of which I don't have the WAVs for, but I should any day now). And a WIP is under way for One Winged Angel which we were waiting on...
That's wierd. I would have thought "One Winged Angel" would have been the one that the team would have jumped on right from the start. However, there isn't much to do with it without changing it radically which would take a lot of work. But hey, I thought that's what made it worth doing.

The issue is not that it's an unpopular theme, but rather...
(1) The original version is already epic, and LONG. Shorter tunes are often easier to remix.
(2) The Advent Children version is super-badass and that's a big standard to look up to.
(3) Can you really do One Winged Angel in that many different styles?
All that being said, we're trying to do a larger-scale collab on it - right now, Spekkosaurus is putting something awesome, with contributions by bLiNd. I'm looking to add on to it as well, as is pixietricks.

Every single point you made about that damn source is true. I started a Dream Theater style mix of it this morning. I kept thinking about how I need to change direction from the AC version. Zircon didn't use the word live. There are a few tools that, if used by someone with a lot of skill and a lot of knowledge about the human voice, can make a realistic-sounding choir from samples. EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Choirs comes to mind. Of course, everyone would rather have a live choir than samples, but Zircon didn't really say which option they used.

So, is there a difference to the source tunes? Let me explain, RedXIIIRedux and Ascention to cosmo canyon seem to be based off the same song, but one is cosmo canyon and other is valley of the fallen star. Is there a difference? And if there is, are they both represented in this project?

There's no such track on the FF7 OST called "Valley of the Fallen Star"... do you mean "Red XIII's Theme" vs. "Cosmo Canyon"? If so, the source tunes are very similar, except one has more melody and embellishments than the other. Both have been included in one track, the remix Sixto and I did.

KyleJCrb

As far as I am aware, Chudah's Corner normally uses tracklists translated from original Japanese releases, so it's probable that the original Japanese soundtrack listing has the track as "Valley of the Fallen Star". The FF7 Piano Collections tracklist also refers to the song by that title.
I'd say both are correct. :P

There's multiple translations for titles going around for most Square-Enix OSTs, especially in cases where the OSTs were actually released with English track listings. The fan-translated versions of the Japanese OST track lists sometimes tend to be more literal translations than the official translations on the English track listings.
Mustin

Right. Fan translations can be scary, too. Most everyone thinks "October Mermaid" from Xenogears is "June Mermaid." I made this mistake on our Time & Space CD but then hired a professional for the actual Xenogears album and got all of the translations correct this time.

Actually there is only one emotional interpretation of Aeris theme: Aeris Lives by Kevin Lau. Prayer is too distorted by the abruptness of the guitar, and the samba is, well, a samba and isn't very emotional as opposed to just nice to listen to. That is, if you are not counting productions outside of OCR. If you are, then yes, there are alot of emotional Aeris theme songs done. But I think that emotion is the best quality when it comes to which one is the best.

Well if you don't like it, don't listen to it. I didn't particularly like the direction that clip seemed to be taking the song in either, but good for him for trying something different. One of the worst things in any artistic field is to either have your work or particular songs pigeonholed into one and only one style. Any great artist who did multiple versions of their songs with significant variation will doubtless have fans arguing that the original is the "pure" version and everything else sucks, when the problem is most often that the fans don't cope with change and expect that ArtistCirca1970 will be the same as ArtistCircaNow. People change and get different ideas, and good for them. If people like Jeremy Robson didn't want to deviate from the "expected" way to do songs, we wouldn't have much of a remixing community.

How do you know? I actually can wield a katana very well, and I think that I follow the life of discipline that the samurai were known for.
But back on topic,
Hey Reuben, hows it going? I have been looking through your site recently and I have to admit that I am very impressed with your work. Any ideas on how your going to do birth of god and boss theme? Will it be in any of the styles of your other works?

Dangit, I gots to go head to head with Reuben Kee for Birth of a God. Eh, maybe it's because I feel really damn cocky right now, but I'm up fo it. You know, unless Reuben's a lock.
ThinCrust: Heya! Both tracks have their arrangement more or less complete already... Boss theme is in james bond style with Sixto helping on the guitar, birth of a god is done in epic choral/orchestra/drums style.
The Joker: Well although my arrangement for birth of a god is done, I never was one to try and monopolize anything... so if Zircon agrees you could always do another version :p

So, zirc, should I still do the mix for the project? I'm gonna finish it regardless, but I'll go at my own pace if it is no longer eligible for project inclusion; where as, if it still has a chance, I'll work on it at a faster clip.

After dragging out the process for some 5 or so months, I have actually completed the bombing mission. Title theme is maybe 75-80% at this point, and then all I have to do is fuse the two together seamlessly into one awesome (and pretty dang long) track.

We haven't even started on album art. That's usually among the last steps for a site project. Based on the teaser site that djp did though it will be pretty cool, with some Advent Children influence.

Hey guys, I signed up to this forum to let you guys know, (based on what I've heard so far) that I think this is going to be a kick-ass project. The medley you posted is incredible, and I even sent it to a friend of mine who is also interested in hearing what you guys produce!
Also, in the medley, what's the name of the song that starts at about 1:24, and is before the chocobo theme. Can't seem to put my finger on what it's a ReMix of (sign of a good remix in my eyes (or ears)), and it sounds really cool.
Thanks, you guys are doing a great job.

1:21, with the screaming guitar solo, would be "On That Day, 5 Years Ago..." but it's the solo section, so you don't really hear the original melody. You only hear the progression in the background there.
