I shouldn't have listened to medley teaser. Now I'm highly anticipating the release of this again. And I can't seem to identify last chiptune song. What is it?
Here's your answer:
And the chiptunes song... though I can't tell which one it's covering. And FFVII's one of my all time favorite games too...
EDIT: One Winged Chiptune...?

Things are moving towards the finish date. One Winged Angel is still in production because of extensive collaborations and scheduling between people's holidays/work/schooling/etc, and a few tracks are being worked on.

Probably won't be doing any more previews... we're definitely coming down the home stretch. I know I've been saying that, but we are. Lately I've spent a lot of time gathering all the mixer bios and photos for the website. We're almost done with that, which is important for the web design. We got one new mix, a medley by bladiator - it's awesome!
More progress on what's left...

1) The project is not released yet.
2) The project is not complete yet.
3) A release date has not yet been announced.
4) The release date will be announced during OCRemix's panel at Otakon.

6) The project will not be released during Otakon.

Well, I went back on my promise that I made way back in early '06 - that I wouldn't set a date until everything was 100% ready. And thus I regret to inform everyone that the release of the project must be delayed. Without going into details, suffice it to say that the actual release of a project requires significant time & attention from a number of people, and if even one person is not available, a full release is not possible.
I'm sorry that this had to happen. I didn't communicate certain information to people clearly enough and didn't think far enough ahead. But don't worry. The tracks are done, and they kick ass. The new release date is going to be within the next two weeks - probably within the next week - and I will post as soon as I am absolutely sure that it is ready to go. Plus, we will have something to show on Friday, even if it's not the full project.
You might say... "The Countdown Begins" again. And we'll "Hurry" to get the project out there. Better yet, we'll "Hurry, Faster!"

Actually setting up a torrent shouldn't take a whole lot of time or effort (I think a Bound Together torrent was created within hours of its release), but coordinating the release with the people who run the tracker(s?) might be harder.
Websites and promotion aren't irrelevant, but I'll agree that they are less important. VotL has already had plenty of the latter, and as for the former...Bound Together almost didn't have one to speak of, and it was still hugely successful. The torrents, mirrors, CD covers, etc. all came later with the help of the fans, who were eager to help and be involved with the project themselves in some way, if not in the music aspect. Because in the end, it's the music that matters, and it ends up promoting itself.
Still, I do understand OCR's fixation with releasing things all at once in one shiny package with the hopes of it making more of an impact. And who knows, it might. But I personally will be going straight to the torrent link.

I dissagree. Since OCR is expanding all the time and becoming avaliable to more and more people (with for example VGL and Otakon as new medias to spread our joy) a website and lots of promotion is very important. If we wanted to make an arrangement album just for the forums we probably would, but this is the modern OCR. We're trying to attract a larger audience nowadays, and VotL (being the biggest OCR release in history) is certainly something we want perfect and known worldwide.
(Disclaimer: We = me really. This is my opinion, not the site staff or the VotL remixers. But I think many will agree)

A few reasons for the delay - just so everyone knows...
* Torrent creation involves uploading all the 2.2gb+ of material, which takes some time, but it also involves coordinating with the person running the tracker - in OCR's case this person is somewhat hard to get ahold of.
* Some songs had mastering problems that needed to be fixed (in several instances, the artist volunteered to do so.)
* We didn't get the absolute full 45 tracks - with titles - until the 4th, which left little time to formulate an intelligent track list. Figuring out the best order to place the songs is a delicate process as we're not just going in the original OST chronological order (though it will still make sense, chronologically.)
* Press and promotion. Some won't think this is important, but as it has been noted, VotL is the biggest project in OCR history, and it is focused on one of the most popular games of all time. Additionally the standard of quality is VERY high and djpretzel and myself believe it deserves as much attention from the media as any professional arrange album.
* Encoding and properly tagging 45 songs, then double/triple checking the tags, also takes time. The MP3s alone are over 200mb so all that uploading/downloading isn't instantaneous.
And so forth...
I will have a final date for you soon.

Like I said, I understand OCR's philosophy and need to blow things up as much as possible, but really when it comes down to it, there's not a whole lot of ways to mess up a 45-track project release: something this big will pretty much promote itself by being Digged, Farked, PAed, and Slashdotted all at the same time. And you wouldn't be able to keep this from our Japanese fans if you tried.
Which reminds me, one interesting thing I've noticed in Japanese projects is that it seems to be popular (or even customary) to host a live webcast as the release progresses. I guess you could liken it to a DoD or kwakfest listening party. Perhaps a special episode of VGFrequency is in order? ;)

I'm willing to say at least 1/3 of the downloads on R:TS are from Japan. A Japanese blog is my number 1 referrer so long as there's a new song for them to refer to.
That being said...I'm fairly certain OCR has a pretty good ammount of Japanese traffic, as that blogging site updates OCR and VGMix FORUMS releases. Granted I'm sure they could get MORE, OCR has to be pretty big in Japan, too.

Well, the OST features 85 tracks. Although, that does make the 45 tracks seem impressive, in its own way. Assuming no medleys and no overlap (though both are likely), more than half of the entire original soundtrack is ReMixed by this project.

Look what I wrote for my school paper! You'll have to forgive bbCode, which doesn't seem to want to format my article properly.
FINAL FANTASY VII: VOICES OF THE LIFESTREAM TO BE RELEASED IMMINENTLY
Jeremy Pesner
I’ll start off by sating any fanboy enthusiasts who might be reading this in the hopes that some heretofore unknown game, movie, action figure, or other spinoff is about to be shown to the masses. Sorry. Square Enix has no plans, as far as I know, for any new Final Fantasy VII propaganda.
For everyone else, I’ll remind them that the Final Fantasy series is the most well-known Role Playing game series and, short of Mario and Sonic, perhaps the most well-recognized game series ever. Every iteration of the series transports the gamer to a new fantastic realm, ranging from the typical medieval world of castles, dragons and dark overlords to, by the time of Final Fantasy VII, a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk future where a ragtag group of rebels must band together to save the Planet from corporate and alien menaces alike.
So what, you may ask, is Voices of the Lifestream? Enter Overclock Remix (www.ocremix.org): a strictly nonprofit site of video game fans dedicated to remixing the infectious themes you hear from these games, and hosting them on their site for all to listen to. If you’ve ever wondered what your favorite song from a video game would sound like when played in a metal band, this is the place for you. It has received a large amount of professional media attention, largely owing to the professional level quality of the mixes. Several video game composers have lent their advice and recognition to the site, and, when I accompanied members to see an orchestral concert of Video Games Live this past summer, were glad to meet us.
Though the majority of remixes are taken from only one song, occasionally a group of remixers will band together to release an album centered around a particular game, with every (or nearly every) song from the game getting its own remix. They even provide a tracklist and CD cover, so you can burn the CD, slip the cover into the jewel case, and carry it around like you would any other album. Or you could live in the 21st century and store the songs on your hard drive or iPod, like I do. Voices of the Lifestream is the Final Fantasy VII remix album.
The project is headed up by veteran OCRemixer Zircon (known as Andrew Aversa in real life), who has made a name for himself mixing such tunes as Montrous Turtles! (Super Mario World), Lover Reef (Sonic & Knuckles), and Calamitous Judgment (Chrono Trigger). While many people simply remix as a hobby, this particular mixer wishes to go into the music scene professionally, and has already released three electronica CDs that are on sale at cdbaby.com for very cheap. DJPretzel, the founder and hoster of the site, has contributed to the project, along with many other veteran mixers. This promises to be the largest mix album the site has ever released (the original tracklist for the game is over a hundred different songs… this remix album will have half that) and fans galore are waiting with bated breath. Provided there are no more delays, the project should be released within the week, so head over to the site, and once you see “Voices of the Lifestream” on the front page, click the link and enjoy.
When I brought this idea to the features editor he loved it. So yes, this will really and truly be published.

Like the article, but if you're talking complete remix noobs, then "If you’ve ever wondered what your favorite song from a video game would sound like when played in a metal band, this is the place for you" sounds like ocremix is just a metal site, rather than incorporating a lot of different musical styles. Electronica, ambient, rock, solo piano...we have them all here. I think for clarity's sake, you said say "If you’ve ever wondered what your favorite song from a video game would sound like when played in a metal band, jazz club, or in any other style, this is the place for you." Or something like that.

are you guys planning on linking the site on the front page, like with all the other ones? or is that going to get done the day of release?

Pretty sure that's the plan, yes. Someone in charge could respond with more authority, but I figure I'd just save them some time.

Yes, all projects get a front page spotlight. This will most definitely get one. Along with something else... fun.

Regarding the release of the torrent, at what time this Friday will i be able to get my hands on it?
Even if it could be somewhat of a spoiler to give out the exact time, but since i reside in Far-away-Sweden there might be differences in time and perhaps even date.
I am eagerly awaiting the release, and i know this will have been worth the wait.
I apologize for my poor language, by the way.

What poor language? :O You own me and I'm from far-away-Sweden too ;)
I think setting a time would be a bit too optimistic. but see it this way: if we are in fact releasing this baby as soon as in the morning the 14th, it's in the middle of the day for us and we'll be home ;)
How did you find your way here btw?

I would consider my English somewhat poor since i compare with my brother who lives in Ireland.
How i found my way here? Oh, erh, well i can't rightly remember, I've been lurking around here for about a year now. Listening to a few remixes, just enjoying the marvelous music. Simple as that. =)
And perhaps you might be right about setting a time, and frankly; I'll be happy just to get the album.

Hoho, i highly doubt that. But it may be so that i underestimated my fluency with the language. However, i think i'll consider that a compliment.
And wow, the release is very very close now, a little less than four hours here in what seems to be changing into a autumn-ish? Sweden.
Took a quick look at the tracklist at the album-page and i say, you guys sure put up a lot of thinking for this one. I personally find the combining of tracks such as Gold Saucer and Cid's theme a little, dared based on how they sound in-game. But as usual it would not make much sense to judge anything before i hear it myself. And thus, i wont.
I'm really looking forward to this, so i'll take use of my current situation being sick in fever and staying up and downloading it.
At any rate, the tracklist looks marvelous!
Well, according to how i interpreted zircon when he stated that it would be available at midnight tonight, Thursday and i think that is what zircon meant. I hope.
