View Full Version : Reason 6
Reason 6 kills Record (but introduces Reason Essentials.... still a better division). Was about time IMO, especially, if you will eventually buy both anyway. The new FX, Pulveriser, The Echo and Alligator are interesting and Alligator looks most useful to me. Reason and ReWire is also available in 64 bit, now.

But if you already have Reason+Record 5, will these things motivate you to upgrade? I mean 4 introduced a new sequencer and Thor -> big change & awesome new synth, 5 introduced Kong and Blocks -> awesome drum solution & another interesting workflow idea, but 6?

There is audio transpose too. Which is basic buuut still very useful. If it can automated in the sequencer for audio I am sold. I know this can be done with Neptune but it's a pain to load up several neptunes and create the automation lanes.
It seems the main goal of Reason 6 was to integrate features and add new features that focus on radically changing existing sounds.
It will be interesting too see the other small features that are not talked bout in the press with the new FX. For example in Thor you can phase cancel sounds. Or the amp env follower in Scream4. Or the shift knob in the BV512. Every props device always has a lot more thought behind than just what's on the surface.
As an R/R user, its a little frustrating that theyre getting rid of Record so soon, but as a business idea it makes sense, as it allows them to focus on one software package rather than two. Personally, while I think Reason 6 is cool, I just dont have the funds or need to really upgrade at this point. Perhaps with Reason 7.

I thought this too at first. but owners of R+R get a crazy reduced price for the upgrade. $99

I really thought that they could have just scratched the base soundset all together and started new, creating an industry standard set. I know they're adding new sounds, but will we see better orchestral samples I wonder?
The reason I still use Sonar is because it has notation. If Reason 6 had notation, ability to import video, and a better sound set....Then again for ochestral stuff there are the Miroslav samples...and then the Reason drums and bass and pianos....still wanting a guitar...But here come more synth tools...

I have not touched Reason since 2.5, so I know I'll be in for a huge surprise when I do finally manage to upgrade to a new version. I never had a chance to play with Record, which I was looking forward to, but I don't think it'd be a show stopper. Maybe I'll pick up 6 as a christmas present to myself this year.
