THE MISSION
They say the sequel is always darker. So, with that in mind it's time to launch BadAss Volume 2: The BadAssering (not the final name, but who knows). I'm sure everyone has had a chance to check out Volume 1 (http://badass.ocremix.org) by now, so you know how tall an order making a darker album is going to be. It's Boss Themes, & it'll be all kinds of hardcore. So, if you have a fever & the only prescription is kickass music, then you've come to the right place.

I'm hoping to have a faster turnover for this, Final due date sometime in the fall/winter of this year.

THE SOUND(of Music)
We left room for different types of badassity in V1, had some tracks that served as a type of respite from the unrelenting energy the darker portions had. While still allowing a variety of styles, this time everything will be vicious, downright sinister even. Not everything has to be in your face, but it does have to sound badass. Like Cujo, cept more aurally pleasing. Here are the types of music we're looking for, now in bullet points & examples (cos we're legit now, nephew)

And everything in between, really. We just want awesome, ass kicking, hardcore as all get out, adrenaline inducing noise, if you can dig it. Keep in mind these are just examples to get you in the right frame of mind. Pretty much just a harder, cooler, more badass (if it's possible) version of Volume 1.


TRACKS (Crazy Train)
So, keeping with the Volume 1 guidelines, but adhering to a stricter, meaner sound. Again, we’ll consider any track as long as it’s either a Boss Theme, Villain Theme, or a Mini Boss Battle Theme. You can use additional tacks from the game you're remixing, so long as the meat & potatos of the track is a Boss theme. Anyone can submit a WIP to be considered for a spot. We only ask that whatever track you do, you do it well & with passion.

Keep in mind, nothing is set in stone. No one is a sure thing until I or pu_freak tell you, which means even if you get a track on the listing, if someone comes along that's a bit better, then, we have a victorian style duel. Best "shooter", or in this case track, wins & we part ways like classy gents. Best in this case not necessarily the most pro sounding, but the most creative & evocative of the project, i.e. kick-assery, hardcore style.

I was originally going to try and do Emil/Karma or the track to the extremely spoilerish boss battle towards the end... But Emil/Karma is too awesome as it is (and the trance remixes on the arrange album really preclude any of the things I would want to do with it) and the latter is somewhat majorly spoilerish :3

Shadowlord is awesome too... but I get ideas just from listening to it... you could almost say it's arranging itself! :O

Is it too late to sign up? If it is, I'll go for Volume 3, but if you're open to extra tracks, I'd love to do Fawful's Theme from M&L3, or Cackletta's theme from the first game. I also have a great idea for Spat's Theme, from Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak (He's still a villain... right?). Or better than any of the above, I want to remix Team Rocket's Motto, from the Pokémon TV Series. But since that's from the show, maybe it wouldn't be fit for OCR.

We're always open to new blood on the project, but the mix you have isn't what we - or OCR in general - is looking for. It feels way too much like background music. Ambient is not the style to go for here at OCR, it really needs to be something you can listen to as a standalone track that will get your blood pumping. Check the first page for the different genres we're going for: the mix has to be BadAss. If you truly want to be on the album and are willing and able to shift genres send me a PM

I'm a bit disappointed personally. I was completely expecting Kuja to be on this list from FF IX. He had a far superior villain theme compared to Ultimecia, which I was frankly surprised made it on the first album. So I had high hopes Kuja would show up here, but alas one of my favorite tracks from FF IX is still going to go unremixed. *sigh* And I'm not just talking about his standard theme played throughout the game, but that mixed with his final battle music at the end. Dark Messenger or something. A mix of the two would be perfect for this album.

Brandon, as much as I'd want to be considerate of other projects, I gotta put this one first. I'm managing BadAss, not the other projects that have deadlines. Prioritizing is up to the artists involved with said tracks. If one prject is a better choice for them, then they should finish that other project song first. I won't take offense from that, but I won't put the project on hold either. This is is all volunteer work, so the project can only get so far as people are willing to go themselves.

Having said that, there is no cut-off date set in stone yet, that all comes down to how many tracks we have close to done when the times comes. I've learned first hand that just because you finish an album doesn't mean it comes out right then & there. Usually it takes a few months. With that in mind, there are a few tracks that are further ahead than not, & I'd hate to sit on finished tracks for years. I'd rather try to get them out as soon as possible, which was the whole purpose of the Volumes system in the first place.

It's going to have elements of Comedy for sure, but it will present more as a type of "stage play" than straight comedy. If I can pull off the vocals the way I have in mind, it should also sound quite serious and frankly, rad. Dialogue portions have been performed by a "secret guest" who will remain, for all time, secret. SECRET. It is symphonic metal in drop A tuning, but like I said, the arrangement is more like a stage play, sort of operatic, and there are mood changes and a tempo fluctuation that shows this. If it used multiple sources I think the judges would be all like "Medley-itis! You can't have transitions like this!!" but hopefully it should be fine & they will most-likely understand the stage play aspect of it. :-)

I think that's all I should share as a "preview". The guitars I re-amped are possibly some of the best sounding I've achieved so far and they fit the soundscape perfectly. It's not an overly flashy performance, but it's heavy and appropriate. The orchestra makes it seem complex, as it is probably more fleshed out. The drums sound CLOSE but not too close to Kataklysm's drum sound, so a damn strong kickdrum (or click drum as some say)

I don't know if it's a secret, but I'm going to be making an OCR website for the project. I just need to receive all of the necessary assets for it such as art and text.

Putting the artist(s)'s name(s) in the filename is maybe not needed, as all the tracks will be tagged correctly. OCR project tracks tend to have too long file names IMO.

But I think we're not the ones to decide. :wink:
