Project Concept
This is a collaborative concept album designed to capture the story, characters and environments of Ocarina of Time through the combined efforts of remixers, performers, and visual artists. Because of the enormous number of Ocarina of Time remixes and solo projects over the years, we want this album to be a community effort. We are encouraging collaboration as much as possible with the goal of creating one of the most professional-sounding, cohesive, and story-driven OCR albums to date.
What We Need
Arrangers to conceptualize and complete remixes. This is where the bulk of the work will be!
Producers who are interested in offering their services to artists who would like to participate but don't have the production or sequencing skills to create an OCR-quality remix.
Performers who are experienced with any type of instrument and have a high-quality recording setup. We would like to get quality live performers on remixes in any instance where a remixer's sample quality isn't up to par.
Visual Artists to create accompanying pieces of art for each track or "scene" in the project.
Sound Designers interested in mastering and sound design for the project.
If you're interested in contributing to one or more of the above areas, please get in touch with myself or Emunator and show us a sample of your work.
Auditioning / Claiming
Unless you were specifically invited to remix a particular track by the directors before the project went public, all remixers wishing to claim a track will need to provide a solid work in progress that is approved by both directors (for overall quality and for its cohesiveness with the rest of the album) in order to make a claim on any track.
This is all in the spirit of collaboration and sharing ideas, so please don't feel daunted or afraid to audition. If you don't feel comfortable with production or sequencing, but are a talented arranger with a great concept for a track, we will work with you and do whatever it takes to bring your song up to the necessary level of quality. It does not matter if you are a posted remixer, an OCR veteran of 10 years or someone who just joined the community yesterday, the only thing that matters here is the quality of your work!
Genre Guidelines
The genre for this project is “soundtrack”, which is pretty open ended. A good reference of what we’re looking for is anime soundtracks. Anime OSTs have both story-specific “cinematic” tracks, as well as “themed” tracks which appear throughout the series at appropriate moments.
Anime OSTs generally blend a variety of orchestral, world, and electronic influences while still delivering the appropriate mood and energy. The Ocarina of Time OST is expansive, varied, and creates a strong sense of exploration and “seeing the world” and its cultures. That’s the kind of spirit we want to capture by incorporating unique instrumentation and diverse musical influences. BE CREATIVE. We strongly encourage artists to step outside of their comfort zone, since you'll have a great support network of performers and producers at your disposal to help you push your boundaries as a musician.
Genre influences for each remix should always be source-appropriate and should try to fit with the general direction of the album. To help with this, CONTACT ONE OF THE DIRECTORS with a concept for your track before preparing an audition to make sure it will fit on the album. This doesn't mean that we will only accept certain genres for each track, but we reserve the right to refuse a WIP if the genre selection clashes too much with the rest of the album.
Source Usage
Since many of the themes in Ocarina of Time are extremely short, we are open to the use/cameo of themes from other Zelda Games when it feels appropriate to the mood or setting. Good examples might be re-occurring locations and ocarina themes from Twilight Princess and Link to the Past. What's important is that outside sources fit from a musical/mood standpoint, and within the "universe" of Ocarina of Time in the sense that they don't draw too much attention away from the OoT source you're remixing.
We've already included a few instances of this on the working tracklist, but if there's an event/area in Ocarina of Time that you would like to see represented with a non-OoT source, just let us know and we'll see if it can work for the project!
Intermission Tracks
At the end of each disc, we've got a space for an Intermission track that is an exceptionally strong arrangement, but perhaps might not fit anywhere in the main album flow. These tracks could be great opportunities for various medleys or longer, more traditional remixes. If you have an idea for any of these tracks, feel free to get in touch with one of the directors about it!
Gapless Playback
The final album will be formatted for gapless playback. If you’re using ambience and sound design in your track intros/outros, please leave 10+ second buffers/tails which can be used to transition to and from your track. If your arrangement does not use ambiance, just keep in mind sound design may be added if there’s a need to help transition into your track.
Deadlines
Deadlines will be instituted and handled on a case-by-case basis. Always maintain contact with the project directors, especially if you cannot meet a deadline.

Six years late, suckas! (http://zelda64.olremix.org/)
And since you are adamant on arrangers who don't have their production chops up to par, I'll have to think of something to send for a claim...
Theophany

Look forward to it! Just to clarify though, we're not looking to force collaborations or exclusively seeking out arrangers who need production help. We want high production quality on every track, whether it's the project staff or the remixer (or both) achieving that goal. We just don't want lack of production to be a limiting/deciding factor for people with a really solid arrangement...

An "anime soundtrack" for OoT?
Yes, for goodness' sake, yes!
The claimed tracks sound promising thus far (Jillian Aversa doing a rendition of Forest Temple? I'd buy that for a dollar! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85cL1HisrNc)), and I hope the momentum keeps up. Tackling OoT is no mean task, after all.
I'm a bit surprised this hasn't totally exploded into loads of people looking forward to it. I'm sure folks will see it soon enough though!

This project looks awesome. Nobody claimed Gerudo Valley? I claim Gerudo Valley.
If somebody picked Gerudo Valley by the time I wrote this, I'd like to pick Last Battle.
My sound is electronic with trancy/progressive/dancy genre.
I might do an intermission for Kaepora Gaebora, depending on how my other three (four?) coming deadlines go (FF6 / Wily Gauntlet Round 10 / Vroom / SD3). But either way, good luck in steering this through, Theo :D

You've obviously put a lot of thought into how to run this thing and what you want out of it; this alone makes me look forward to the album a lot! (Plus Theophany/pixietricks collab? That alone sounds worth the wait!) Good luck!
edit: I've actually been singing Zelda's Lullaby as an actual lullaby for my daughter.. it works. :)

SO. I'm really interested in helping out with this project, but I am unfortunately still pretty green when it comes to arranging/producing/that kind of thing.
HOWEVER.
I can play bassoon, and have the ability to record myself playing bassoon. I also happen to have access to a contra bassoon at the moment (though only until about the end of June really). If anyone is interested in some low reed goodness, I would be more than happy to help out!

Moot, do you have any samples/recordings of your playing? We'll put you on the performers list if you want to offer your playing skill. Just make sure we got reliable contact info for you, private message me or Emu. If anyone you know is down to help out, like wood wind players in general, that would be cool too...

Awesome, I love Ocarina of Time.
Well, I'd like to offer up my performance skills to anyone who's interested! I can contribute female vocals, folk harp, piano, recorder, glockenspiel, djembe, tambourine and rainstick, and maybe Irish bouzouki.
Considering harp and Zelda go really well together, if you need a real harp, I can help you. :)

Wow, thank you for posting. Really impressive work... We're really looking for people with unique instrumental skills so we'll definitely be in touch soon. There's already a few tracks on the project I know could really shine with your help. Are the OCR forums the best way to keep in touch? If not PM us and let us know!

Yay, thanks! That's great to hear, I'd love to help and I can't wait to do so. OCR forums are fine for getting in touch. :)
I'd like to contribute male vocals to this project, if I may.
Not too well known here, but I have various examples for your listening. For now, I only have them uploaded on my SkyDrive (not sure if you need a Windows Live account first), but of course you're welcome to give me your opinions:
https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=9ad5ffe6101c4a59&resid=9AD5FFE6101C4A59!175&parid=root
In there was also my entry for the Assassin's Creed: Revelations contest that briefly took place.
All of my recordings to date have only been whole performances of only one or two takes, so they are not perfect. I've never really practised on any one track multiple times to achieve the most perfect performance (or even to crop multiple sections and compile something perfect), so I would very much look forward to such a chance.
In a nutshell, I have a good range of sustained notes and vibrato (high notes included, but particularly with deep low notes), and I find myself typically suited as a jazzy, crooner type, but I'm really open to anything...even the delicate New Age music that pixietricks really excels at!

CN, sounds like you can sing pretty well man. I'll mark you down. I was listening to deep memory and thought of the new Deus Ex OST. Vocals like yours could sound really cool on a Temple remix or one of the darker ocarina themes. Are these forums the best way to contact you? Also, nice name. My family is from Toronto... :)
I plan on getting a wip together for a track or two for this soon (along with everything else I plan on doing :-P ), but I want to put myself down for trumpet playing. Here are a few examples:
Zelda: Majora's Mask - Healing Majora (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc6g0z0uQsc) (posted on OCR)

Mega Man - License to Chill (http://www.adamprack.com/The%20Gentlemasters%20Club%20-%20C7%20-%20License%20to%20Chill%20%28Chill%20Man%20in%20Co ssack%20Fortress%204-2%29.mp3)
Mega Man - The Filler (http://www.adamprack.com/C7%20-%20The%20Filler.mp3)
I'm not sure what my wife is willing to do at the moment, but she's the clarinetist in License and Riding.

While indeed I am continuing to work on my FF6 track, I'm starting to put together an audition track for this project for the Temple of Time. While that should by no means frighten off any more talented musician from wanting to take the iconic track, hopefully I can submit something and see if it's up to snuff. If not, it's off to the workshop, I suppose : p

So ironic since I actually live there, yet not many catch on to that! But it's also just my name abbreviated; real clever, right?
There should be more Canadian presences around here (nevermind Toronto) !
But for now, I guess all I have is this site or my e-mail...which isn't any more quicker than the site, anyway.

Anyway, this sounds like a fun project. I'll check back in a couple weeks to see if you guys still need remixers, cause I'm musically swamped with the last round of the WCRG since I'll be my team's primary mixer and with writing original stuff to finish up an EP, plus getting settled into the percussion studio at school/preparing for placement auditions. So yeah, I'll check the thread or PM someone or whatever in a couple weeks to see if there's still a spot. Laterz!

Hey guys, there's been a little delay with responding to auditions but I tend to be really busy during the week. We've had a few awesome auditions from people like Doc Nano, Abadoss, and Sir Jordanius so far. I just want to encourage everyone to link people who might be interested in the project. If you can attract new talent to OCR even better. If you have a recommendation for someone who should be on the project, let us know and we'll check them out! We're still looking for musicians (guitars, brass, strings, woodwind, world instruments, vocalists) as well as artists.
I want to encourage more remixers to audition, too--I know people are really busy with work and other projects but auditions are for getting your concept across, not subbing a completed mix. You can include a little writeup to help explain where you want to take your track if it helps. We also want balance between cinematic and world fusion type tracks and more traditional OC remixes with solid style, groove and energy.
We're always open to making a cool idea work for the project.

If it's not too late, I'd like to claim Lake Hylia (TP)! I have a few good ideas for that. I might be able to send an audition through this weekend.
Edit: Whoops, probably should read the first post more. I'll send in a WIP/audition as soon as possible!
Also, that is a very sexy banner.

I never thought I'd be saying this again... but this project... Its so enticing, I'm gonna try my hand at arranging Temple of Time. One of my all-time favorite Zelda songs... I'll be sending my audition along soon, although I will definitely say that both samples and production may hold me back slightly... :whatevaa: Hopefully that won't be too much of an issue to work past.

Hi, everyone!
Farkle here, I'm a new sign-on, but many of the OCR crew know me as Mike Worth (old friend of Zircon and PixieTricks); I've been meaning to sit down and get into the OCR community for a couple of years now, and now's the time to do it! :)
I would love to contribute some remixes to the Ocarina project; as one of the other posters also does, I sing this music to my 5 year old daughter.
There is a lot of competition for the remaining tracks, I'll help fill in the blanks. I'd love to remix the Fairy Fountain, the Nocturne of Shadow, and/or the Bolero of Fire. If those are taken, I'll happily do the opening Deku Tree suite.
With the short melodies, Nocturne and Bolero, is it okay to expand them a bit, into a more symphonic piece, melodic/harmonic variation, some key change moves, etc?
Thank you all for letting me be a part of this community and this project!

@Salluz
Last Battle will be a collaboration track I'm going to supervise kind of closely so keep that in mind. It's not a track we'll be giving anyone solo claim to unless their audition is just completely insane. I'm hoping Last Battle can be a little bit more of a community effort in terms of arrangement and performing so that it really delivers both on production and as a piece of music... so we want people who are looking to collaborate to sub their ideas moreso than audition for solo claim on that one. Let us know!

Just recorded some sort of really early WIP for Kaepora Gaebora theme. Not really sure what to think of it. Is it any decent? Might think of adding some harmonized melodies for the "chorus" and perhaps some other song to finish it off with. Feedback please :)

I messaged you about this, but I want to say it publicly too.
I would rather people sub a WIP than hold back. So far we've accepted two tracks that might be considered "outside our style" because they were awesome in their own right, and we felt they could still fit nicely in the album flow (which also depends on the tracks we get). We are only going to be picky about certain tracks, like Temples and Battle tracks, for example, because we don't want an entire album of material that sounds predictable or exactly the same. For the tracks we accepted that were somewhat outside our style, we suggested some small changes to the intros to help it fit in the framework of the album, mainly some more acoustic sounds. If you have a suitable intro you can really go any number of directions and it will probably still fit nicely on the album. If you're not sure what to do, we can always make suggestions, but we have to hear your WIP first.
We're always going to be looking to see how your track can fit on the album. The guidelines are meant to encourage people to send in their WIP.
If they're not doing that, I'll probably need to update soon and clarify...

just a quick clarification and style question. would it be inappropriate or otherwise unethical to use a song on ocremix to demonstrate my singing? as an actor, i have a natural aversion to auditioning for a play with a song from said play, and i just wanted to see if that unspoken rule applies here...

It's funny that still no one wanted the Gerudo Valley. Perhaps because it's overmixed.

Hey, thanks to everyone who's submitted WIPs. I'm going to get in touch with Theophany and be sure to get a definitive answer back to every one of you by the end of the weekend :-) We really appreciate your patience. Suffice to say my free time isn't what it used to be and I think Theo is in the same boat, but we're trying our best to not let things slip through the cracks.
As for Gerudo Valley, interest HAS been expressed in it but we're still waiting for a WIP to solidify it. I won't reveal the artists working on it, but after hearing their concept in writing, I'm confident that if it's executed properly, it'll do complete justice to the source and really stand out on the project as a highlight. Shouldn't be too much longer before that claim is official, I'm expecting a WIP pretty soon.

Do you have some examples of your solo work? Also... this choral experience you speak of... are you still connected to any choirs or singing groups? It would be pretty awesome to organize even a small group of singers for a kind of small choir / folk choir sound at some point on the album (Gregorian chants for Temple of Time for example). It's always possibly to layer things up digitally, but I feel like getting the acoustics and raw energy of people being in the same room (or a Church) would give us stronger results :)

I have some songs on my Youtube page under: "MangaMan Sings"
I do keep in contact with some of my choir friends and could possible organize some of them.
I might have some (Ok, quite a bit of) interest in Ganon's Castle... I heard some ideas as soon as I listened to the source track. That's promising. I'll get back to you once I have some kind of coherent arrangement, but that may take a little while. Exams coming up and all... I just wanted to throw my voice in. :D

It's generally a good idea to take a minute and read the OP before attempting to join a project.

Too the people working on the Kokiri Forest remix, I was wondering if I could possibly help out with it. I'm the head coordinator for the Tears of the Moon: A Majora's Mask Musical project and I would love to make a connect between the two games, since Majora's Mask is a sequel to Ocarina of Time. I want to try to make the connection that the Skull Kid in this game is the same Skull Kid in Majora's Mask. I don't know what you guys were planning on this song, but if you want a vocalist, I can play the part of the Skull Kid that Link teaches Saria's Song. Even if it is just a short vocal part at the beginning, that would be fine. If your not interested, I understand.

I agree with all of this. The nuanced differences among unique voices make the charatacter of a choral sound almost impossible to replicate.
I've actually been formulating a concept for a choral mix beginning with Temple of Time chant, then developing into/interweaving with a couple themes from other games in the series.
In any case, not sure what the timeline on this project is, but if there's still a need, I should be around to help this project out come October/November. May have time to arrange/produce a track. Could definitely contribute some vocals. I'm working on getting some better examples of my style and range. What I do have now is this recording I made a couple years ago of a gorgeous Palestrina arrangement for male quartet. Recorder in my apartment, revern added in Audacity for that open-acoustic cathedral feel. The production quality isn't up to stuff, and there are some intonation issues, but I did this in a bit of a rush and could definitely improve on it.

I'm interested in doing a ragtime-styled solo piano remix for the mini-game theme, if no one else is interested. I don't have any WIP to submit at the moment, but considering I just got out for summer (being a teacher is an order of magnitude more difficult than being a student, btw) I should be able to throw something together in the next month.
First WIP will be some shitty midi sample, but the final product will be mic'd and recorded live on my piano.
Looking forward to contributing to my first OCR project (assuming of course that my WIP gets the green light) :)

Hi all,
At Emunator's request, I'd like to introduce myself to the group and talk about some opportunities for collaboration.
I've been around this community since about January of this year, at which point I decided to try my hand at remixing. I've since had one piece accepted (Not the Taxi You Whistled For) and took first place in Zircon's FFVI composition with a piece titled Gobble Snarf Snap. You can check out both of them at www.soundcloud.com/xprtnovice - there are some other samples there.
If any of you are looking for: Alto sax, clarinet, piano, acoustic guitar, flute, or vocal percussion, I'm your man. I used to have a Syrian oud, but I've since sold it and am still shopping for a replacement.
I am also, quite uselessly, an excellent whistler. Everyone has their strengths, right?
Right now I'm a little swamped with a host of life issues whose sole purpose seems to be preventing me from doing things I actually enjoy, so I might be a bit slow, but if any of you have something you'd like me to lay something down on I'd be happy to. Emu has me looking at some of the shorter pieces on OOT to go for a remix (Shop, Mini Game, Shooting gallery, and Horse Race), and once my life decides to shut up for a while I plan on tackling it.
Looking forward to being part of the project with you all!

Awesome, that would be cool. The work on your deviantart looks pretty solid! keiiii is art directing for the project, so send her a message with a link to your work and let her know what material you're interested covering. Off the top of my head I know we already have claims on Temple of Time, Water Temple, Hyrule Field, and a couple others, but I would say the project is mostly open right in terms of art.

I'd love to have a part on this project, but I'm going to need some time to get something together because I've been working on the FF2 and FF9 projects and need to get what work I need to do done for them first.
I'm particularly interested in the Shooting Gallery theme - I can hear some really weird metal/folk stuff in my head. I can PM samples of my other work so far, and send a WIP once I get the ball rolling.
The album sounds like it'll be great fun!

edit: Ok, i'm editing this out. I was expressing interest for a particular song, but after messing around with the genre, my samples just aren't going to cut it. If you still need somebody later down the road feel free to message me though you'll probably get a lot interest before then anyways.

Some time ago I expressed interest in the Legend of Hyrule track. Since I'm not sure if the "**interest expressed" mark in the track is mine or somebody's else, I wanted to say that I'm "dropping my interest" for now. I can't come up with an idea that pleases me...
However, I DO want to express interest on Nocturne of Shadow. I wrote an arrangement already, just need to sequence it and I'll get in touch with the project coordinators!

@jnWake Please do...
@urdailywater, it's up to you, but we're always open to hearing your arrangement concept. If the arrangement is really solid and I feel like it would work well on the album I would be open to producing the track for you (with your permission of course). But again, it's up to you, and the arrangement does need to be solid.

Just putting it out there that I messaged you on your profile page. I am wondering if you have a spot open for mastering in this project.
Here's a sample: http://www.mediafire.com/?3ebayz73n89bv8k
I just put together a MIDI track and mastered it as a demo.
I can always master it differently though.
If you want me to make you a demo of a track that you want to hear mastered I can do that too.
I look forward to a reply.

No need to be sorry, to be honest I am going to need reminders as the project goes on because there's a lot to keep track of. Although we've been a bit quiet in the thread it's mostly because we've been hard at work on the project. So far we have a team of around 10 remixers all working on tracks at various stages of completion. While we have lots of vocals planned and tons of potential for more as the project progresses and evolves, none of the tracks are ready for performers just yet because we're focusing on the concepts and arrangements. Our approach is a little more time consuming but the WIPS for our existing tracks on the album are already sounding amazing. We've also have some stunning art concepts and near-finished paintings thanks to Keiiiii, who is running art direction and working with artists. I am trying to keep our efforts focused on the first disc in hope of releasing some kind of preview or promo for you guys in 2013.

As a general rule, not unless you're working directly working on a track for the project. Like other projects on OCR we don't want material leaking out before it's ready to be previewed or mastered for the release. We may share other wips from the tracklist with a performer once they're directly involved for additional collaboration and feedback, but we haven't decided exactly how that aspect of the project is going to work just yet.

Haha, thanks T! Yeah I've got about 2:30 of a wip on that battle theme, in an Indian "Bhangra" style. I'm not sure it's right for the album though. I'm handing it off to another friend to get more expansion ideas, so we will collab it and probably sub it outside of the project.
After the success of Theo's Majora's Mask album, Theo and Emu are going to be even more selective about what styles they want for the OoT album, so I recommend contacting one of them with any ideas and/or audition wips you may have.

I almost want to claim "Legend of Hyrule", but I seriously feel unworthy of doing so. xD To do orchestral stuff will most certainly require my collaborating with someone else that has really good orchestra stuff. I've got Logic and the orchestra instruments sound pretty real, but they are limited to only being played note by note or chord by chord. They can't do arpeggios or anything related to that.

Hey guys, sorry for being MIA for so long. Emunator and I are thinking we need to overhaul the first post a bit and figure out a less confusing approach to managing submissions and claims. We've had lots of good submissions but also some difficulty, so we're going to be looking at ways to simplify things and streamline our audition process. In the meantime I'll be working on tracks and getting back in touch with everyone on the project so far. If anyone sent me a wip and I didn't get back to you, please send it again! Sorry to ask but I'm not very organized and I lose track of things pretty easily.

At this point I'd suggest that anyone who's interested in contributing to the project hold off for a little bit until me and Theophany have had a chance to regroup, unless you're okay with your track potentially not being used for the album. We're in the middle of trying to really figure out what sound we're looking for the album and our approach to the project in general, so I would personally suggest just holding off on submitting or developing any WIPs until we sort a few things out internally.
This goes for artists currently on the project, as well!

Hello, Before I start, apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I'm a fresh newcomer to this forum, though I've been a long-time visitor to the website. I have no musical skill per-se but I'm an illustrator and graphic designer with experience of working with well known and established musicians and record labels. I was wondering if you'd be interested in allowing me to get involved with this project as a visual artist? I'm a huge game (and VGM) fan, and would be really pleased with your consideration.
If you want to see examples of my work, check my portfolio at www. owencreativestudios. com (remove spaces). I've done flyers for artists and labels such as LTJ Bukem & Hospital records amongst others, but actual illustration and art are my bigger passion. I'd ask for nothing in return, but a credit, obviously. Let me know what you think. I'd love to be involved!
I'm still very much here and singing a lot, by the way!
In fact, since whenever my last post was, I've made some very significant progress and I'm more confident than ever that I can be an asset to this project...as well as wherever that Majora's Mask one ran off to.

Yeah, I figured things were being revamped. I'll mostly be listening to the other wips then, but I ain't laying a finger on my track again for a long while (I've mostly been making adjustments based on everybody else's overall sound anyways; so I don't want to step too far out in another direction and when everybody starts working again my track ends up like "whaaaaaaat is this doing in here?").
