Nice ambient intro.. and yes, I can definitely hear the Terminator theme at 0:52 like djp said :)

I like parts of this mix but that synth guitar is a little too grating I think... it detracts somewhat from what is a pretty good arrangment.

I think the guitar sounds fine. The song is based generally on synthesis rather than real instruments, so the guitar fits better even though it isn't real. My heavy metal arrangement of the same song, for instance, probably won't sound as good until I get better at sequencing, but this works.

I like it. It's a little conservative, except for the solo, but it's not a bad thing. The atmosphere is probably the most memorable thing about this song. It has a good feel.

The Pretzel knows his Terminator tracks. The drum sequence he's referencing sounds almost EXACTLY (read: awesomely) like the final drum sequence in the intro to Terminator 2, where the camera zooms in on the robot.

Synth guitar ... eh, no biggie to me. I'm more overwhelmed by the similarities to AE (read: more awesome)

Damn that ending! Confirms the Terminator vibe beyond doubt.

This is great stuff, the Terminator vibe certainly doesn't hurt, nor does the similarity to AE. This gets an easy 6 (>75%) and is held back from a 7 because the guitar isn't meaty enough :)

An interesting piece, certainly. I actually liked the feel it gave, and the guitar done the way it was turned out pretty cool. Though I have to say, intentional or not, the aforementioned Terminator vibe is very nice. Lends a sort of toughness to the track.

Overall, I liked this remix. Well done.

EDIT: I just thought of something is the title "Chronodyne" in refrence to "dataDyne" from Perfect Dark? After listening to the song again, I thought I picked up a little bit of that too.

Wow, I liked this song a lot. I tend to enjoy the heavy metal remixes, but this really takes the cake with the drums. Wow, those drums. When I first heard them The Flashbulb came to mind.

The guitar could be better, since it's very synthy, sort of high in the register. It could definitely be thicker, but it does its job.

The ambient synth that provides the background is there, just as in "Undersea Palace." There's a big difference in expression between the background there and the background in "Chronodyne Marine." The tone is really what carries the song, because admittedly otherwise I wouldn't like it so much. At any rate, good job.

This remix is set with the entrances flowing in a synth sort of way and then the guitar (though it sounds fake) rises this song to its heights. Overall good remix!Congrats!

I really enjoy this song. As Linearity said, the entire track is synthetic, and I feel that a more realistic guitar sound might have even been out of place.

Excellent arrangement. Keep up the good work.

Interesting take on the Ocean Palace theme, it took a while for me to recognize it. At first I thought this was going to be a more mellow piece, considering that the remixer's nick points in that direction, and so I thought at first when I heard the bell synth in the beginning. But then came the other and more rough synth. And as for the guitar, you can clearly hear that it's a synth since it doesn't sound too real, but I don't have a clue for how to make it more "guitarish". However, since this is an electronica arrangement, I guess it's supposed to sound like this along with the other equipment, that's the thing with it.

And to not stick out of the conversation, yes, the drums sounds very much similiar like Terminator. Nice remix overall. :D

I've got to disagree big time with the judges on this. As has already been mentioned, the whole song is synth; adding a real guitar would more then likely spoil what I think is a very cohesive sound.

The guitar solo could have been better, yeah, but it's hardly a song killer.

Wow, killer intro, kick butt ending. But that guitar solo (1:27-1:52)sounded too thin and almost midi-esque to my untrained ears. Sounded like someone just pressing the right notes on a keyboard, it lacked soul and substance and texture, as though the artist wasnt really... into it. Most noteably the section from 1:42-1:52. The contrast was pretty detrimental to the mix in my opinion, as the other 3-ish minutes of the mix showed attention to setting up a nice gritty feel. Even the few seconds as a precursor to that solo sounded awesome, I would have liked to hear more of that in the solo.

Mostly my point too, this is electronica. If it were to be a real guitar, it would be more like some sort of rockmusic.

I don't think the judges were saying to add a real guitar. They were saying to filter the synth guitar. I agree -- it would sound a lot less like "omg FL Slayer" if there were some effects applied to it, and it would really fit in a lot better, too.

The guitar solo itself is kind of neat. I like the parts where it throws in a second one. But the note at 1:27 is really abrupt. I mean, it was sort of sudden in the original, but not this bad.

The percussion and background are both excellent. The filters applied to the drums are what save this piece. But I would really like to see what this sounds like with a different sounding synth guitar.

I haven't really liked any of the new mixes lately, but I enjoyed this one.

I agree that the synth guitar could use some work but the rest was pretty top notch! I really liked the percussion.

I pretty much agree with the judges on this one: it's listenable, even enjoyable, but could have been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better with real guitars.

I also agree that the synth guitar could use some work; either a more clean sound or a more fuzzy sound. As it is, the arrangement is great, and I love the background bass/percussion. The guitar just seems to stick out funny in comparison with the rest of the song.

Great stuff! 7/10

There's a difference; it's pretty easy to come by a guitarist around here.

whole orchestra is way easier to find than single guitarist, duuh. well jk.

I found the soong to be cool, the synth guiter is good for not beeing real, and he did a good work with what he got and made a good song. At least i liked it alot. -noddums-

the synth guiter is painful

Fixed.

The lead, though very obviously fake, is listenable. The chord chugging, though, is like fingernails on a blackboard, except not quite so pleasing to the ear.

Which is a damn shame, because this is otherwise an awesome mix.

I like the textures and the beats a whole lot, but that guitar lead tends to jar the ear a bit. A well done mix overall; it may be that my difficulty with the guitar lead is merely a personal stylistic expectation.

Nice work.

Well, SSH as well, to a degree, yes. But there are much better ones out there without name recognition even in the non-pro level that have sold arranged personal albums, made personal mixes/originals and the like in the last 10-15 years. There are also plenty in the professional arena such as members in KKC, JDK, Sega especially who have pioneered the art of guitar synth sequencing.

I've been a part of this game music community for around 7-10 years now and I've seen a lot of great masters of this arena come out of there and in those times - they've probably moved on to other things by now. There are so many japanese midi, etc websites out there, in addition to many of the older sequencers from Vgmusic.com (6-8 yrs ago).

There's of course a lot of non-game mixing communities out there too where I've heard a lot of remarkable stuff from, and usually they tend to be Japanese as well.

There must be something in the water out there.

I like this a lot. However the guitar is too loud compared to the rest of the song. The sample itself doesn't bug me as much as other people, but it was quite loud. The song was also too brief. It needs about another 2-3 minutes :( You could have brought that guitar section back in to close, why didn't you?

I think this is one of the best chrono trigger remix ever :D although Darkesword's Though The Dark is not that bad eihter :P actually... many of the CT ReMixes are good;) but at this point, ambients marine is the best one...

Yep, there it is. ambient's wip work was already quite awesome to listen to, and what do you know? It gets accepted to OCR. Nice work.

The John Connor feel is the special touch for this track. Although not with perfect soundquality (guitar) it's pretty fun to listen to. Isn't that what ultimately counts?

Hmm I felt that this had a very nice intro, but as many have said, the synth guitar is... erk. It pains me. It's loud, rough, piercing, loud, and loud, and doesn't really fit in with the rest. I'd just scrap it and put something else in its place.

Said the Guitar player.

It's fine the way it is. It is a synth, it didn't need you to polish it up with your guitar skills.

I love the tuney feel to the mix to stay on topic

His comment was 100% On topic, so really, stfukthxbye =).

Now this mix. Very well done. Great job balancing out a lot of the thicker 'crunch' textures. As far as this guitar thing goes... it's just too raw. I wouldn't jump in to say "Use real guitars", but as the judges said, more processing would really help it out. ((Note that the judges never said to use a real guitar)). The overall sound of that lead just seemed too narrow and focused.

I enjoyed it... solid, just could use some fine tuning.

I really love the way he brings the guitars up around 1:05. It really gives it the underwater machinery feel to it. It's an excellent mix.

And again its one from ambient! This is the second song from ambient (after "back 2 skala") i´m judging here on ocremix.
I dont think either he should´ve used real guitar sounds. Its obvious that the song doesnt use any real instruments, therefore i´m fine with the synthesized guitar sounds. I really enjoy the punching bassline, especially at 0:52 and 1:57. Just like djp mentioned in his description, Terminator-Theme ;)
This is another great (of many) song from around here i just cant get enough of :)

Synthetic instruments, but great handling of them.
I assume the mix wasn't that simple to proceed, with all the fuzz & distortion.
It really exlhales the feeling of something powerful, and stay balanced till the end.
Overall it holds itself pretty well, even almost 3 years after being submitted. ;-)
Great remix.

This has an interesting yet overpowering industrial vibe.
I admit that until the melody came in I was a little worried. Really the source melody is the only thing that gives any significant shape to the sound scape here; everything else would have been repetitive and very narrow.

While this isn't earth shattering, it's still a good little mix worth checking out.

Great mix! provides an interesting vibe at the beginning, and the guitar is great, despite all the criticism it's taken. this is one of the more kickass CT mixes i've heard!

excellent intro- though i wish a little more bass was in there. A huge filtered bass would have sounded incredible under the roiling and bitcrushed percussion. The lead guitar had moments were it sounded very good, and some where the limitations of the sample showed through, but overall I think it worked out pretty well.

Length was about perfect, and though I wish there was a little bit more variation in the sections, i'm cool with how this mix panned out. The ending was classy and brief without being cheesy., which is always a plus.
