So I suppose it's probably a pretty bad sign that Nintendo is delaying the release of information that may or may not reveal a delayed release date for the game. I'm totally excited for this game (and the Web site), but this is kind of ridiculous.

Hey guys, apparently Nintendo Power said that info will be out BEGINNING May 22nd. Heres some nice speculation for you:
When does all of the US turn May 22? When its 12 AM PST. What time is it in Japan then? 4 PM. (previously mentioned that this is when the japanese school kids start getting home) When did the NoJ site say the site would open? Afternoon...
It fits. Sakurai might be waiting for the whole world to be May 22 to release his site. 4PM JPN, 12AM PST, 3AM EST, and you can probably do the rest. Its the best bet now...
hm...well, it makes SOME sense...

What's so dangerous? That these people are known for producing music on other big games that may or may not have their characters appearing on SSBB and we're not supposed to know about it yet?

I know a lot of people are no doubt complaining about no new characters, but the idea they've got for the soundtrack is seriously cool.
We've asked our group of arrangement supervisors to listen to an elite selection of Nintendo music and asked them to arrange several of their favourite songs...which means there will be quite a large number of songs.

So they are all gonna remix some songs they like? That means that it might be possible that two of them remix thesame song, but eventually, one will get picked. I hope that there will be a way to get a hold of the other songs. I'm curious what all those composers can do with such classic themes.

They'll probably just do what they did in Melee; have multiple tracks per level, and it will randomly select which song to play when you enter the stage. Or at least that's what I'd assume (and hope). That way we can see all kinds of different takes from different composers on various songs we all know and love.

Not exactly the info dump I was expecting but still kind of cool. This will only be truly cool if they actually update it almost daily. The musician list was kind of neat. Now to wait until tomorrow!

Some kind of project that people wish to be part of? I mean, that list is something. Old rivals working together. When you think about it, to have people like Kojima "beg" to be in this game, and then you see such a list. I think this game is gonna be one of the most memorable of this generation if they manage to get an all star cast like that for all aspects of the game.

Answers have been across the board when Nintendo employees have been asked about Brawl's controls. From my perspective, it's easy to see how a classic or gamecube controller would work - just like Melee did!
But a Wiimote + Chuck combo isn't likely gonna cut it. You have A attack, B attack, Jump (Not everyone uses up to jump), shield w/ grab, and shield w/o grab. Unless you want to use the D-pad on the wiimote, that's not going to work out. And if you do,it's not going to be comfortable.
I predict multiple control schemes, but I don't think many will use the 'mote.
Edit: Bolded a statement.

If you go back and check that blog back on p. 243, (http://nintendrone.blog.com/) IF this can be considered a credible source and considering he says he got an interview w/ someone very closely related to the dev team, the main focus of the control scheme will be the classic GCN controllers and Nintendo is contemplating putting them back on the market.
Players will be able to choose from multiple control options. Main focus is on GC controller, and Nintendo is currently considering redistribution of them.
The Author
05-22-2007, 04:06 PM
Again, the guy who gave me this information would know about that, he was in the marketing aspect of the company. Deciding to bring back the GC controller would be something he would be well aware of, since almost every issue from putting an item back on the market would be known by him. These issues would also have been known back in october, when I spoke with him. Sadly, my lack of a tape recorder (I was there to win a Wii and not interview marketing people about information concerning a videogame that was far off.) means that I cannot replay the exact discussion, but I remember him clearly stating that brawl would use the Wiimote.
And again, the guy was there to give 10 Wiis during a 30 minute lived television show dedicated to the Wii. They did not send Jimmy the coffee boy to do that distribution. As far as I know, at that point in time, they were sure they were gonna use the Wiimote. Unless something dramatically changed, I don't think the game will force people to buy GC controllers or classic controllers.

and why not? They did something similar with Crystal Chronicles. http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=86
Besides, at the risk of sounding like a dick(which I don't mean to be), your info is dated and by someone in the production team. This info is hot and by someone on the DEV team. Even if they don't market the GCN controllers again, I'm pretty sure they'll be making it primarily for GCN controllers. Besides, most people who have a wii, more than likely have a GCN and people who get Brawl more than likely got into it from Melee, so they're not really forcing most people to go buy new controllers.

Edit... this is looking like a Benford's Law of Controversy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benford%27s_law_of_controversy) situation.
Anyway, I can assume that they could make the control schemes use motion sensing. Like move your controler quickly up for a jump, down for a jump down, left or right for a dodge/roll move...

Returning just to post something about the musicians...
Some of the Musicians have vague information on the games they've composed for, whereas others have a much more defined amount. For example, ROMANCING SAGA Series, whereas others include names such as Golden Sun and Actraiser.
My hypothesis is that the names that are thrown in deliberately (if they have a game after or before) may be hinting to characters, example would be Actraiser (there was a 2nd game) and Mother 3 (why not say part of the Mother series? Unless this guy only did Mother 3 music). Another strange thing is the way they've CAPPED CHRONO TRIGGER/XENOGEARS, because thoose games aren't usually said with CAPITAL LETTERS. They might be gesting at something...

agreed. I mean, the old smash had almost all of its tracks as a real orchestra... what is it with Nintendo and its lack of orchestras. -_- Even crappy games now have good music utilizing real instruments. Nintendo always seems to be behind the curve in this regard. *cough* Twilight Princess *cough* For crying out loud, the only exception really was Starfox Assault, and it was the most mediocre of Nintendo games released in the last couple years.
Now if this is just some small theme, in the form of an extra, okay, I might be able to live with that, but the bar set by Melee really needs to make sure that the music is good. I really want some high quality tracks to listen to for as much as I play Smash.
Perhaps they're saving the good stuff for last. I mean, they do have some pretty good musicians on that list from games with great scores. Nintendo is staying tight lipped about everything from Smash Bros Brawl, so maybe we can assume they're showing pithy, non-exciting things first and ramping up for the better stuff. I mean, that first song they released was awesome.
Anyway... the arrangement is good. I just want to hear the smash bros version of the Metal gear solid theme. ^_^

Well, I have no actual evidence to back this up... but just on conjecture I'd say that they are going to orchestrate everything at the end, when all the music is composed. Orchestration is expensive, no need to hire the orchestra multiple times just for blog updates.
[EDIT] Oh, and in case you didn't know, it says on the blog that the majority of the music WILL be orchestrated. I don't know about "Menu 1," but there ya go.

please, someone explain that is nothing and what exactly this means before i get my hopes high(er).
What's there to explain? Yasunori Mitsuda, the owner of Procyon Studio Co., Ltd. and composer of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, is composing something for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Weird. I always thought he was a girl for some reason... maybe I got him confused with the girl who sings the opening in Phantasia? I have no idea.
That's Yoshida Yukari. However, Motoi Sakuraba's daughter (grandaughter?) Mio sings a track in Baten Kaitos Origins...

As much as I would love for it to be true, I'm not getting my hopes up for Crono being a character. If he is though, his level could be ace; I'd love a Lavos time-warp style level where it went through the different time periods in one area.
Also, is it normal to have 36 composers for one game? That sounds like a lot, and I'm wondering if he means that songs made by these people will be used, not them actually composing for it. Even if each person only did one song, that's 36 tracks already; take out a few for menus and such and we have at least 30ish levels. That seems excessive, or am I mistaken?

If you assume 20 characters, you will have at least 20 stage. Since you have an end credit song for each character, that alone is 40 songs. You might have extra stages (like the final destination stage and the event stages) that's about 5 stages, and 5 songs.
You have the main theme, the menu theme, the "trophy room" theme, and the minigame theme. 4 songs.
Easily 49 songs with 20 charaters and 25 levels.
Since this seems to be an all-star game, it could be conceivable to have 1 composer from a specific series to at least be credited for the character's theme, and at the most be part of the team that composes the new version for SSBB.

Huge disappointment, took away all game information. Its just a ploy to restate already known information with maybe 1 or 2 new things in a daily fashion to keep crazed fans satisfied. Composer list doesn't mean anything, does not equate to remixed themes, and therefore does not equate to inclusion of characters either. Only remotely interesting feature was "how to play" section. I'd rather new gameplay information come online than all this garbage.
For those of you wondering if "Menu 1" is a final arrangement for Brawl, READ!
Here on Smash Bros. Dojo, we will share that music with you through occasional trial listening. Since this is my first post, I thought I would give you an arrangement of the song you probably heard most often in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Menu 1.
Motoi Sakuraba headed up that arrangement!
"Menu 1" Source: Super Smash Bros. Melee (1:22)

Masafumi Takada - killer7 / GOD HAND
Masato Kouda - Monster Hunter / Devil May Cry
Michiko Naruke - Wild Arms series
Tomoko Sasaki (TOKIOHEIDI) - NiGHTS
Yasunori Mitsuda - CHRONO TRIGGER / XENOGEARS
Yuzo Koshiro (ANCIENT) - ActRaiser / Street of Rage
So right now, I'm at the shitting my pants part of excitment for this game because of possible characters from Streets of Rage, NiGHTS(probably for sure, since the game is going to be on the Wii), Wild Arms, God Hand and Devil May Cry. Wow you guys need to calm down. I don't think any of those people from your wanted list will ever be in the game. Just because they are arranging music doesn't mean a character will be in the game. Sakurai said like 3 3rd party people. Also, a requirement was that they had to be on a Nintendo system so yeah... and NiGHTS guy would be weird, I'd rather have Sonic than "it".
I'm just happy that we will be getting info daily, be it old or new.

yeah, its unlikely that anyone of these composers are making songs based on their game. They are just making songs based on the source material of old nintendo games and past smashes as well as a few new additions with new 3rd party characters and odds and ends so we will definitly not see anything that has not appeared on a nintendo system in brawl to repeat what was stated before.
Despite this, this is a crazy amount of composers and i cant wait to see what kind of amazing soundtrack they can compile.

Because guys in Canada know what the crackpot japanese developer wants.
To be honest, Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe are both huge jokes since if Nintendo of Japan says something, they can't do jack shit otherwise. They're nothing but giant translators.
And that's why we're developing the Metroid Prime games over here, amirite?
They aren't just translators, please try again.
Namco made Starfox Assault, actually. xD
Bongo Bill and I managed to get into the beta. I think it was only like the first 2500 or something that happened to check their buy channel at midnight yesterday. Pretty great fun so far.

it is called menu 1
even if it plays in that stage i would assume a song called menu 1 is menu music
maybe
I was always under the impression that the actual menu music for brawl was the music heard in the background of the Nintendo World trailer from Nov 06. I think it's called Menu 1 just because it's obviously a remix of the Melee menu theme. Still, if I'm right then it is strange that they didn't call it "Battlefield" or something.

^ Basically that's what I was getting at in my post a page back. Sakurai even STATES that it is an arrangement of the Melee menu theme, and there is no mention of it being in SSBB. Don't go making too many assumptions about this song; I suspect it's just teaser material.

Ok, once again, the site says "The song called Menu 1 found under the topic The Musicians plays on [the Battlefield stage]." This quote is under the "stages" section. So yes, it is in fact in the game, and like I say, I just don't think it's the menu theme because it's being used in a stage already. Again, I think the menu theme for Brawl is probably the music played in the background of the Nintendo World trailer - it just sounds like what they'd probably use, and it features that same "main theme" that Uematsu composed.

I think he was wondering because it looks like Link can crouch and shoot arrows, which going by Melee's controls would mean you hold down and press B, which is what you press for bombs. I'm really curious to see what they're doing with crouching, with all this crouchwalking and everything.

The graphics look really good from what I've seen. Definitely a jump over the last Smash Brothers. But they will look truly good if it holds 60 fps.
I like the background in the sky stage. Really pretty. I think that this game will have more of an 'epic' feel and less of a campy feel as compared to the last few Smash Brothers.

Well, Up is jump, but you can still do up+button attacks without too much problem. I don't see why being able to crouch/crouch walk would be different. I guess you'll have to get used to quickly hitting down+B instead of holding it down.
Strike911

Perhaps you can hold B to initiate the arrow pull. Then you can adjust his stance with up and down, possibly and optionally, the angle with left and right?
That would be simple and easy...
or even possibly simpler, maybe you'll have "Smash attacks" for your special moves... Down+B=bomb, downward Smash+B=crouching arrow? Meh, I don't know how that would work.
Perhaps that's just Links full animation now when he's pulled back his arrow as far as it can go? *shrugs*
Hell, it could just be pictures of Sakurai's ass...

So I want this damn game. The hype has a grip around my throat. I'm 90% sure they'll wind up probably including Waluigi (since they've got Wario), and I'd love to see them include Samurai Goroh. Also, a feature I'd REALLY like to see is heavy customization of costumes - have like, different outfit pieces to choose from and all that, and then also let you change the color of each part. Stuff like that. Just having different color schemes for the one outfit would be lame in this, particularly online where it would be nice to have some kind of personal touches (think the icon in Mario Kart DS, things like that).
And yeah Arek, I agree that the theme they have up there didn't really impress me...I don't know quite what it was about it. Partially the arrangement and the instruments too. I hope they fix it up a bit. The remake of that theme that played in Final Destination in Melee was much better, I thought.

I think the lighting makes it look browner. If you look at the art and stuff (not gameplay) you'll see it's pretty blonde. And what do you mean more human?

Smash bros Melee had a low level of experessions from the characters. It looks like they're really expanding on the animations. The only thing is I doubt we'll ever really notice them too much in game. They're hella sweet though.

I could see this goo bomb being a fun game of keep away. I remember an item in Gauntlet Legends where you became IT and it was just a game of tag with the other players. Cool. I'm enjoying this daily update thing, even when they are pretty small updates.
So after playing many an hour of Punch-Out!!, I decided I'd really like to at least see a cameo of Little Mac in Brawl (in the background of a stage would even be cool).

Don't forget hidden characters, which they probably WON'T tell us about, and confirmed third-party characters, which they probably will tell us about (besides Snake and Pit, who I'm ambiguous on being a third-party character).

Also, stages and items and why the hell are they introducing a sticky bomb? Why not just supply an item that dims the screen and drops a few proximity mines in random places on the stage?

If you click on a tiny, tiny screenshot it'll show you a tiny screenshot. Try it, it works.
My theory about the website: once they get at least one thing in each category, stuff will start to flow in quicker. First he'll post few more minor things like the gooey bomb - they'll say little about specific details, but they'll make subtle statements like "We're throwing out the old items that suck and adding good new ones that make for a fun and balanced game". Then he's gonna "reveal" all the characters we already know about, then others from Melee like Bowser and Zelda, and THEN any third party characters. I'm optimistic about Sonic myself, but Megaman just doesn't seem too likely right now :(
Theory of Nonexistence

Updated with Pit's special moves, which we already knew from the trailers. He can shoot his arrows and curve the arrow's trajectory much like Zelda's "Din's Fire" it looks like. Also he has "Wings of Icarus" that allows him multiple jumps, like Kirby and Jigglypuff.
However...I don't care much for Pit. GIMME ZERO SUIT SAMUS!

Yes, this is speculation.
Those we know are in:
Mario
Kirby
Snake
Link
Fox
Samus
Pikachu
Pit
Metaknight
Wario
Out of those, we also know that some had ennemies that were in the previous installements:
Bowser
Gannondorf
Out of the original list, we can see Pikachu still being in. We can also assume Jigglypuff will be left in due to his status as a twice included "joke" character.
So far. we have 10 confirmed and 3 possible.
Mario
Kirby
Snake
Link
Fox
Samus
Pikachu
Pit
Metaknight
Wario
Bowser
Gannondorf
Jigglypuff
You can add to your list, but you need to have a "logical" reason to do so.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Release Date – 11/12/2007
Unfortunately, Smash Bros. only featured one playable level, which is what you’re seeing in most of the screenshots. However, there was a demonstration of the game’s Wi-Fi abilities and one new character shown. As you’ve seen, the game looks stunning and in certain instances plays like a dream. There are two available control methods, “Classic” and “Brawl.” Classic utilizes either a Gamecube controller or the Classic controller and plays much like previous entries in the series. Brawl utilizes the Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment. Various attacks can be increased in strength by moving the Wii Remote in the direction of the attack. You can also add an extra jump when pressing up on the control stick and moving your Remote upwards. Unfortunately, these maneuvers felt tacked on.
Using the motion sensor still just doesn't sound appealing to me.

05-29-2007, 01:25 AM
Motion sensing control has been confirmed not to be for the main gameplay. That article's nothing more than phony guesswork.
