The symbol to the left of the title of the post is not the smash symbol, but a leaf. Perhaps this means that there is indeed a playable AC character in the game? (Seeing as both stages and assist trophies so far that are associated with playable characters use such symbols instead of the smash one)

one thing i noticed with the donkey kong/animal crossing updates were the lighting and shadows.
in the previous maps and character updates the lighting effects didn't really grab my attention. maybe its just me but i'm only now noticing them.
assist trophies don't produce any shadows and all the playable characters do. so if theres any confusion just look for a shadow.

That was my favorite stage as well, but it wasn't really flat, at least not like these. These are all pretty much the same, a small platform, with one centered floating platform or two floating platforms on the side. BORING.
I agree, hopefully they're just saving up the really fun stages as surprises.

Yeah. So far all we're seeing are flat platform stages. Even the Animal Crossing level doesn't take place on the ground. It takes place on a floating platform. Floating in the sky. Oh well.

I think the symbol each level gets has more to do with the level itself, and if there's a playable character that matches the level, it has that same symbol as well.

Miis would be great in the game, as long as their heads are big enough for you to see their faces. I made Mario and Luigi Miis, so Mario fighting against his Mii counterpart would be kind of bizzare.
"Take THAT Mii Mario! So long, hatless Wario! Bust THIS, Adam and Jamie! See you in hell, me!"
...No, I don't actually yell out insults at the fighting polygons ;-)
Here's something to think about: the Samurai Goroh assist trophy update has a Captain Falcon symbol. The Sim City guy update has the smash symbol. So, it's likely the symbol either means there's a character from that series, or there's a character OR stage from the series. My money's on the latter.
And I'd have to agree, this stage seems to be the most unoriginal yet (it's like Yoshi's stage, but without the things that make the Yoshi stage interesting). It's like there's 10 identical stages - each more identical than the last!
Anyone think it'll automatically download a new "live performance" for that stage every week? That'd be something.... something that's kinda dumb, but a thing nonetheless.
That'd be the best thing ever if there was an Earthbound "Runaway Five" Stage stage where the performers attempt to sing and play while you're killing each other on stage. And you could kick the performers into your opponents, whilst the music dynamically changes based on which singers/musicians are getting "knocked for a loop". If they can pull off a beautiful Starfox space battle, they could definitely make that concept happen =]
Any guesses for a Wario stage? I'm guessing it'll be one of the places where you do Wario minigames (the place it shows in between each minigame).... either that or, y'know, a flat platform floating above Diamond City  But then random crap would happen every ten seconds. What's this, the ship from space invaders shooting up through the floor? Look out, all the players are shooting bananas out of their noses! Giant noses fall from the sky, causing mass devastation! You smash your opponent off the left side of the stage - he's eaten by a gigantic cat! ....or a stage where the games' speed gets progressively faster and faster =O

Hm... I didn't notice that before, but you're right. It does look like the platform is in different positions for each screenshot, and even entirely out of the picture for a couple of them. Whether the platform simply moves back and forth regularly or changes very slightly with each minute of the day is pure speculation, but unless the screenshots are extremely misleading then the platform definitely is not stationary.

Does anyone really want 30+ characters? I'd much rather a smaller, more well balanced roster that does without some characters from Melee than just adding a bunch more on top. Melee had tons of characters, anything more than that seems like overkill to me. Would anyone truly miss Mewtwo, Ice Climbers, Pichu, Dr. Mario, Young Link, Mr. Game and Watch, and Roy? I'm talking the characters themselves, not their playstyles. If any characters are removed / replaced, I'm sure there will be some other character that has a similar style in place.

If the characters are well balanced, no harm will come from having more of them. Sure I'd rather have more balanced characters, but if they do just as good a job, with even more of them, then sweet.
Mewtwo, Pichu, Game & Watch and Iceclimbers are all unique ideas for characters. Pichu being limited with his own damage. Gameand watch being 2-D. Mewtwo.... k well really, I just like how he holds items with him mind. That looks REALLY freaking cool. And I WOULD definitely miss that. lol
Anyway, the only ones I'd REALLY miss losing are the IC. The idea of varying your play style depending on whether you have one or two, and the ability to combo + double team all by yourself. Very cool concept that might be lost If they're removed.
Like you said, I wouldn't necessary miss any of them for their characters, but the I don't know who they could replace the IC with... and even If they did, they'd just be criticized for new character being a "clone" of the old IC.

And it's not that holding down the button will do anything special. In the example, it says hold to do continuous jabs, press repeatedly to initiate a combo. So they didn't get rid of the "Press the button a bunch of times to do rapid attacks," but they diversified it a little.
When this game comes out I am going to be having friends over for matches every saturday night if it's really true that KK shows up in the animal crossing stage. I was really hoping he'd be playable, but this will certainly do. :-)

The thing is, it was much more of a concerted effort to pull off moves even if they were pretty simple 'press buttons again and again' types. It helped add the fanaticism to the action a bit, button mashing in panic and whatnot.
Now people will just sit there and hold buttons.. I bet pro players will opt for button presses for speed or optimal accuracy or any of that 'pro level' BS.

True, which makes me wonder if there will be some other side effect to just holding down the button. Like, the combo of button mashing will do slightly more damage.
Another thing I wonder is how this will affect doing smash attacks. Since you could charge the smash attack previously, if you're off on your timing, you'll go into the continuous punch.

But while I'm waiting for the update, I'll pose this question: What if Ness were replaced by either Paula or Poo? You could still do the same attacks, of course, and the roster gets freshened. I like the arrangement though.
And yes, a different arrangement of this song was indeed in Smash Melee... particularly halfway through the Corneria music it plays as an extension to the StarFox theme. Listen to it. It's there. Although, it is a little different from the source.
Can you dig?
I like the fact that they're elaborating on somewhat obscure pieces of music instead of adding these songs to themes and such.... like they did in Melee with this song. From my observations, it appears at least, that this song is indeed just by itself and not tacked on to anything else, which is cool. *cross fingers for more old references to old songs*
cool arrangement, digging the pumped sound, but nothing entirely special.... err, rather, nothing to piss myself over.

Agreed, such as the use of many different songs in the medley. I wonder though, what song will they use for Solid Snake and (if there is one) his Metal Gear Solid stage?
Also, I don't think the Bridge of Eldin and the aforementioned medley really mesh well.... It needs a deeper and (as you mentioned) more orchestrated feel.
Honestly? I can't wait till (what I'm sure will be) a Smash Brothers major Project begins.
Sadly, I don't have enough experience or skill with music to contribute, though I want to.

Welcome to 20+ pages ago.:-P
But in all seriousness, I'm definitely psyched about this update. I was just playing through Starfox SNES a couple of days ago and was blown away by (my rediscovery of) that theme, and why it hasn't gotten more attention..until now, that is. As for the "real orchestra" comments that have been rife throughout the thread since the daily updates began, I have to say that I personally am caring less and less. It's video game music people. When I feel like just listening something for pure enjoyment and entertainment, it's my video game soundtracks that I reach for, and not very many of them have real orchestras backing them up. It always surprises me when friends comment on the sound quality, because I don't even notice. It all adds to it, I think. As long as those themes that I've spent so much time listening to and being a part of are there, it really doesn't matter to me whether it's general midi or the Boston Pops that are playing them.
Sure, in this day and age it probably isn't that much to ask for to have a live orchestra playing the soundtrack, especially considering the game (and the cast of composers on the job) we're talking about is smash brothers for god's sake. Splurge a little bit, Nintendo!! Really at the end of the day though, we're all gonna go about and buy the game, it'll be a huuuuge hit, and more fun than peeing in the shower to boot. As long as these classic themes are there to remind me of where all these great characters are from, and what made them great, I'll be ecstatic.

Melee WAS NOT ORCHESTRATED, but the music wasn't straight midi like the stuff they've shown us on the website. The music played at Corneria is a mix of Venom from SNES, Space Armada from SNES and, the StarFox theme from SNES. The music played at Venom is actually the main theme from StarFox 64. For a forum about video game music, why is it no one has recognized these tunes correctly?

Aren't the title songs for Melee and Brawl orchestrated? And what about the DK Rap? Everybody loves that one. ;)
I agree that most songs in the game should be orchestrated. Music from Zelda, Kid Icarus, Kirby, and Starfox are deserving of a human band. DK, Pokemon, and perhaps Mario would also benefit from an orchestral treatment. Music from Metroid, F-Zero, and Sonic are probably better suited for midi tracks.

Personally, I betting that:
A) the sound quality up on the site is not what will be in the game. Mr. Sakurai is simply putting up a MIDI version to give you a basic idea.
B) because the theme to the game has that awesome live recording, but we've also heard that very not-live version in the trailers, not all the songs will be live orchestrated, if any really are.

Because it wasn't a god damn medley it was JUST Venom's theme. So play the fucking game and see.

I thought a couple of the Melee songs were played by a live orchestra, or maybe they were just done really really well in a synthesizer, because some of the songs played at the live thing sound about the same in the game (only a bit slower). Why would they give credit to an orchestra in the end credits of the game if they hadn't used it some?
I dunno I guess maybe they were all just electronic...

Woah. Seconded.
All the starfox songs in Smash Bros. have been, in my opinion, total crap compared to the original songs (especially compared to the SNES Corneria theme). Practically every remix that I hear of Starfox music (e.g. on this site or others like vgmix) is amazing compared to the stuff they put in Smash Bros. I don't get how they haven't been able to turn the amazing source material into something that's slightly beyond mediocre. I'm bunching this new song (or at least the first 48 seconds of it) in with the past disappointing Smash Bros. work...
And yes, let's hope the stuff on the site is just "midi" quality compared to the stuff that'll actually be in the game...
Though, sequenced midi-type music has its place. I was surprised to learn that the impressive Metroid Prime 1 soundtrack was all sequenced.... though I'm not sure if I actually believe that's true =P
Those "main theme" song(s) in the second trailer (and in the 15 second "trailer") - I REALLY hope it's in the game. It'll probably be in one of those single-player-type levels (the Brawl equivalent of "Final Destination" or the one you fight the wireframes on).
C-Island Stage? Ohhh yeeeah! Hell, I'd even take a platform that floats high above C-Island. A more fitting stage might be fighting on top of the Sub-C though. With dolphins! =D
Now HERE's a stage:
http://startropics.classicgaming.gamespy.com/st_screenshots/5.jpg
Possibly the greatest first boss on the NES ever. Even its death animation rivals the bosses of today's games.
[Edit]
Woah, wouldn't it be insane if Brawl had water that didn't instantly kill you (or that does something beyond obscuring your view with a splash)? They could have water that makes you float up slowly when you're in it - basically it's safe to go in, but it makes you vulnerable (perhaps you're unable to attack or dodge). And if someone hits you down into water hard enough, you'll hit the "bottom" and get KO'd. All the water in Melee I thought was pretty dumb, it pretty much ruined those stages...

I mean, as nice as it is to appreciate the music apart from the game, I'd rather do so after experiencing the music within the game, not in small samples months before the game's release. More real updates, Sakurai, for God's sake.

Not really, Jungle Japes can completely destroy you if your opponent knows what he's doing and plays Falco or Fox. Not only can you very quickly use the illusion attacks to quickly get across the stage, but you can fall in the water and firefox, so by the time you get out you're on the other side of the stage
It's a good trick and very useful in certain situations

Not so much *no live* than it is a lack of depth. The tunes are good, no doubt, but they lack that feel that makes me want to listen to them again and again. They sound artificial at some points, particularly the intro to Starfox (which picks up well) and the late-midpoint of the Zelda medley (though the ending is nicer). It's not something I can express more tangibly than a lack of depth or feel.
I dunno, just my two cents. Live performances generally have that feel, I guess because there is such a sheer number of instruments compiling.
Edit: I will admit though, that Ridley Remix has potential, even if the intro (which is all that clip is) is a bit annoying. here's to hoping all the other clips fare better.
Edit: I take that back, the intro to the medley fits well with the Bridge of Eldin, even if Epona's song, etc. don't.

No it wasn't. The Corneria music was the track that plays on Venom in SF64.
Edit: Now that I think about it, though, it was the same song in SF for Venom. Either way, it was only the one song, not a medley.
The Corneria music in Melee was a three song medley, all from SF SNES. Venom, then a short portion the game's general theme, followed by the ending section of Space Armada. Ralphis is telling the truth, partially.
Are you talking about the Corneria stage? If you are you really need to go relook things over. I just listened through the soundtracks to confirm. Corneria clearly has SNES star fox music INCLUDING the Main Menu theme from the original.

It looks like you stay Zero Suit Samus until you die or something. That could be good or bad, depending on how she plays; if you are in a long fight and Samus tactics aren't working, then you have a whole other moveset with her to try out. Could be very advantageous.

I hear you there. I stated a while ago that if it was a switch due to final smash then you'd totally ruin the characters ZSS/Samus. I really hope the speculation about picking one or the other to start is true and then a final smash just changes them. That being said, I really hope they play similarly...and/or ZSS is strictly superior to Samus.

One of my fears has been realized. Samus not a being seperate character from Zero Suit Samus. The whole changing mid-mathcn thing is stupid if you ask me. However, its not the end of the world either. Their are some upsides to it.
First its unique, I don't think any other character will have something like this happen to them. Second maybe Samus's Final Smash is so powerful, this was the only way to balance it out. Final, and most importantly, it adds a big element of strategy to Samus. You can play it safe and play as Samus the whole match or risk it by doing the final smash, getting everyone you possibly can and just finish the match as ZS samus.
All-in-all cool update. I got to admit though, the Zero Laser looks awsome. Even more awsome than it was in the trailer.

The Final Smash is a secret skill that can be performed but once...
You heard the man: "once". After you use it, you have to go and buy another copy of the game.
(I'm still guessing it's once per life though)
I'm curious if any other characters will change at all after doing a final Smash.... I'm really hoping though that ZSS plays somewhat similarly to regular Samus, and has no major disadvantages (either that or there's a way to switch back). I definitely hope they don't take attention away from regular Samus's moves though - two lame "half characters" for Samus would be terribly disappointing =(

Be careful what you say. It is dumb that you can't use her w/o final smash. But by no means does that mean she's "dumbed down". For all you know, the only real disadvantage she has is that she loses range, but maintains her awesome close-range combat capabilities. Regardless, I stated this in the beginning and I'll say it again: Binding a complete character to a move that cannot be accessed at will is stupid. If there were a transformation move, ala Zelda/Sheik, then it's fine because you can switch whenever you want and you don't have to become good with one in order to be good with the other (although you ought to become good with both to be competitive, but I digress). Putting it onto an item which presumably can be (and probably will be, in competitions) turned off, then you've completely eliminated an awesome idea. I've been pretty happy with all of these updates so far, but this is the only one that hints at massive failure.

Now here's a crazy idea. Maybe items could be on during competitions. The reason I think that this has potential for massive fail is that if this is the -only- way to play ZSS then there may be a way to completely eliminate a character from even being played...which disappoints me.

I think it'll be okay. I have a feeling Zamus will be gimped (not Sheik-like as everyone has been assuming this whole time) but I still think she'll be selectable at the character screen by holding down the Z button, ala Sheik.

I think now you're just getting desperate for information on the topic.
Heh, like I said I'm probably thinking too much into it. But I do still bet Sakurai is dangling the question at the end of a hook so to speak since the character was pretty popular.
I bet with the suit there will be at least a way to "jettison" it off with a certain button combination or something, I can't imagine them programming a whole character just to regulate her to a single items' use. Doesn't make much sense to me. Either that or if you think about it, if they really really beef up Samus' speed and give her some undeniable strengths over standard Samus (as well as some disadvantages of course.) then if it is just after the Final Smash it may not even have to be seen as a "punishment".
Another possibility is that beam looks really really powerful so maybe it could be more powerful and deadly than your average Final Smash, and the suit coming off is to just balance that out.
This isn't that important, but I wonder if she has two different models (ZS version and standard Version) or if she just has one model, the ZS version, and they just put the armor over that model for armored Samus. That'd be kind of neat.

I don't think so ;] Unless they do that X-ray effect when characters get electrocuted again... highly doubtful though - we've seen Pikachu do some serious electrifying in the trailers.
Binding a complete character to a move that cannot be accessed at will is stupid.
Oh no, with Smash Balls turned off, you also won't be able to be Gigabowser! And you won't be able to do a fifth of the special moves! And with each item that's turned off, there's a whole other move you can't do anymore! Oh no, what if tournaments only allow playing certain stages?!?? And what if some complete characters aren't quite fast enough to compete well in tournaments? Oh the humanity - suddenly this game's content is looking rather thin
If they're smart, ZSS (lol "Zamus") will play VERY similarly to regular Samus. Even in Zero Mission, unsuited Samus could do almost all the maneuvers of regular Samus (sans special abilities), and the differences were rather minimal. They'd better not do something stupid and, say, make Zero Suit Samus have different areal speed, weight, jumps, etc. than suited Samus. Quick, someone analyze a trailer that has both Samus's in it!
does "why? ...well, because it really hurts" mean that the Zero Beam will inflict Self-Damage like pichu?
Clearly it either means it really hurts to get hit with the laser, or it really "hurts" Samus suit. If it "really hurt" Samus' damage points, the move would be absolotely useless (I mean, unless the destruction of Samus' suit unleashes her hidden god-like power for some inexplicable reason). Ah, what do I know, they've done stupider things....

ZSS has less "power" (I'm assuming this means the loss of her arm cannon and its related abilities, as those tended to be her most damaging abilities) and "stamina" (which probably just means she's a little lighter without her suit, a bit easier to toss around), but makes up for it in speed. She still has a gun to fire with so she's not entirely without range, and it's likely that she's more dangerous than normal Samus in melee range with her gun as a whip.

You should totally be able to equip Samus' discarded Arm Cannon as if it were a gun item. Sure, nurf it, like take away the charge or something, or let it charge less, as long as you are able to shoot with it. That would be hella cool.

This is quite doubtful. Think of a weaker version of Fox/Falco blaster for neutral B. Then think of Sheik whip for side B. There you have your "pistol mode" and "whip mode" all in one. The theories that I think will hold on this one are a lighter and faster Samus without her signature moves, which include her morphball, arm cannon, missles, grapple beam, flamethrower, and obviously morphball bombs. Now a question I'd like to speculate on is how she'll grapple. Will it be close to her beam by using her whip? Or will it be a standard grapple. I hate to say it this way, but it seems that ZSS is replacing Sheik in terms of gameplay.

A part of me wants this to be true because Samus was my favorite, and Sheik my second to play as. I also don't want this to be true as I really want ZSS to have something even more original to her past the method of transformation.
But if you start a side by side comparison, the supposed paralyzer shot would be similar to the daggers. Presumably quick, charge-able and weak. Close range whips. Fast melee attacks combined with a light character. The only difference issue I see regarding this theory is how ZSS Up+B will work. Oh, and obviously down+B since Samus lost both screw attack and bombs.

There's been a big discussion about the computer getting smarter and learning things as you play more and more on Smashboards. The general consensus is that the computer has always done more advanced things (at lvl 9 especially), but players don't really notice it until after they have learned how to do those moves themeselves.
Anyone else get jab-A'd of the stage only to realize they've lost their second jump? I'm glad no human opponent can do that because they would be able to gimp me to death.
Well, at least there are still smash attacks -computer kryptonite.

Edit: I personaly think the computer is too stupid to edgegaurd right anyway. Sure, it can pull off stupidly powerful combos if you give it the chance, but edgegaurding correctly requires a little more higher level thinking than the comp. can handle.

With the heavy emphasis on "dodging" (i.e. getting out of the way of) things that haven't happened yet (e.g. charged smashes, Final Smashes, assist trophies and pokemon, items, etc.), I seriously hope they update the AI a LOT. Melee's AI is completely oblivious to any attack/items that humans find trivial to dodge - they're insanely easy to hit with Kirby's rock (and similar moves), the Kirby star item, etc.. If the AI in Brawl is still that limited.... well, I guess I won't be playing very often with computer opponents/partners =/
So, looks like Zero Suit Samus actually is a whole new character (and possibly even selectable; she's a new entry on the "characters" page). I'm definitely worried that regular Samus will be relatively ignored by the developers, despite the great-looking character model =[ Is anyone else kind of pissed that they're making up bizarre new stuff, while the plethora of perfect-for-smash content from the Metroid series is left completely ignored? Are they trying to avoid putting any kind of minor Metroid game spoilers in Smash Bros? Sometimes I wonder if the character and stage designers have ever played a Metroid game, or a DK game for that matter...
Some are suggesting that Zero Suit Samus will have a final smash.... if you can only get 1 per life (or per match), then she won't have one, unless she's a selectable character. Aggh, they're not really giving us much new info with these updates, are they? That gun whip thing looks rather snazzy though - I wonder if there's a grapple beam upgrade in Metroid Prime 3 that looks like the whip?
Here's some more pointless speculation/hopes that are soon to be stomped on: When Wario picks up opponents, I hope he can carry them with one hand above his head like in all the Warioland games - that would arguably top Game&Watch's juggling move :nicework: If I'm not mistaken, DK is the only one who can carry other characters in Melee...? It'd be great if Yoshi and maybe Kirby could carry characters in their mouths... of course they'd then need to put in measures to prevent those characters from doing suicidal dives off the edge of the stage.
As for DK's final Smash, it'll almost definitely involve barrels... possibly throwing barrels, barrel cannons, the barrel of a coconut gun.... My personal favourite idea thus far: Original DK arcade cameo! DK faces the camera and "laughs" (RRGH RRGH RRGH) before jumping around the stage, shaking the ground and tilting each platform as he lands, and then proceeds to toss rolling barrels at all the players. Actually, that DK arcade laugh would be perfect for his taunt =D

Solid logic, sir. Real solid.
EDIT:
The fact of the matter is that when trying to determine whether Zero Suit Samus is her own character, its nearly impossible at this point. Keep in mind that early on when Melee was first coming out they had shots of the character select screen with Sheik on it. . . remember? Those early promo shots? Yeah you do. And look what direction that went. Seriously, we don't know, my money is that she's a seperate character, but Samus happens to turn into her after a Final Smash, that's how you transform. No going back or anything. That's my guess, because I don't think they want her to be compared to Shiek from a transforming standpoint.
I mean keep in mind, with the way tourney players are, IF getting Zero Suit Samus could only be done by getting a Smash Ball, then none of them would EVER play as ZS Samus. Ever. Of course, that brings up other issues with balance. If someone isn't good with Zero Suit Samus, or if she is "powered down" like Sakurai suggests, does the gain from using the Smash Ball (Giant laser) outweigh having to be Zero Suit Samus for the rest of the match? I suppose that's the other question though, are you Zero Suit Samus the rest of the match or just until the next time you die? There are so many questions I have!! lol. ^_^

The process in Luigi swinging that damn vacuum out, I'd be guessing that'd be the first hit in which might register as a possible regular smash attack, sending an unlucky fool (in-close, mind you) careening vertically into the air, then turning it on to finish off the other players.
If it is Polter-Gust, I guess it'll have some scale to the many pros and cons of every character. As long as they don't take out that flail attack that he had from Melee, I'll be happy.

So, people who play the exact same way you do.
Yes, the non-fgt way.
If someone can edge gaurd you and you will die every time they do it (because you're too complacent to learn how to avoid/escape it)
It's difficult to escape when you're playing against someone who's built their entire strategy on putting you into positions that you can't escape it from. At which point the game becomes less fun than frustrating, at which point they become fgts for putting vicotry over fun in a video game.
you believe that that same person can't just beat the shit out of you until you're at some insane percentage and then just use a smash attack?
Yes, because they have to resort to edgehogging. Any player good enough to beat someone by actually playing the game has no reason to cheap it up.

Nope, it's simply the best word to describe those "right way to play" guys.
Aren't you advocating your own "right way to play" by denying that edgehogging is a legitimate strategy?
Haha, BigBoss, you're so whiny. I don't edgehog people because I know my friends don't like it, but if someone edgehogs me, I don't whine about it like the bitch you are.

Aren't you advocating your own "right way to play" by denying that edgehogging is a legitimate strategy?
Yes. When Jack referred to the 'right way to play' guys, I assume he was referring to the people who complain when any level but Final Destination or the mere mention of items comes up. As in, the fgts.

I can see where you are coming with that. I have a friend who uses Falco AND the C-stick. And it BLOWS. He's way faster than me, and for the first 3 or so fights, I bitch like hell. But then I acclimate and get him back. I guess that's the only difference; just try adjusting your own strategy to force them to do things the hard (and more fun) way.
--Jack Kieser
PS: And, I meant all of you guys who fight about that. I try to stay out of it, because I think its arrogant of me to say there is a certain way to play. Really, only the devs can make that call.
BigBoss

I do. I turn all the items on and go to Poke Floats.

They should just take out edgehogging. If someone is already grabbing on the ledge you want to grab, you grab on that person's feet instead.
That way, there's still a bit of an advantage to the person edgehogging (since the person 'hogging could drop at any moment), but it's not this super cheap move wherein you bitchslap someone off the level and then prevent them from using one of the most basic moves in the game to come back.

07-20-2007, 06:46 AM
Good ole' Poke Floats... The bane of tournament play. But I meant change your strategy in-fight. Like, see them edgeguard and play differently.
--Jack Kieser
PS: ^ Wow, that would be super awesome. Imagine if a chain of 4 players could recover like that...
BigBoss
07-20-2007, 06:51 AM
And even though I wavedash myself, I think they should do that and take out wavedashing. There's not much they can do to improve the physics engine (which definitely needed improvement) if they don't take out the most known of glitches.

You guys just sound like sore losers. One of my friends would find something to complain about no matter what I did, as I would consistently beat him.
He compained if I edgeguarded in any way, used the same attack more than once or twice in a row, didn't mindlessly run at him and attack, or used any advanced technique. Now, I consider myself a tournament-level player (and have been to tournaments), but, with friends, I usually play with random level with items on medium. You, like my friend, wants everyone to conform to their lack of skill and experience with the game, dumbing down the game a lot. I love playing the game, but when, even if I don't wavedash, edgeguard, shffl, etc., my friend would still slam his controller down and storm off, it pissed me off probably far more than it pisses you off when you can't compensate for edgehogging.
EDIT: Did Jack actually just complain about someone using the C-stick?

Edgehogging is the only thing that bothers me. I can't think of anything else (except people who play as Link and literally do nothing but use the Spin Attack) that annoys me.

Why does that bother you? If you remotely know what you're doing, they can't possibly win. You beat them a few times and they'll eventually change strategies or characters.

Normally I wouldn't, but I don't think he has ever touched the A-button in his life on Melee... I need to tell him about the Z-charge, though. He'd get a kick out of that.

Yeah, and I'd love to see a soccer team win by only heading the ball.
....actually, it might be possible to pull of a B-move only win with Jigglypuff or Capt. Falcon, maybe Marth or Roy.....

Just don't tell your opponent that you're only going to use B moves =p

That would be pretty cool actually if when you were on a ledge by pressing Z you could put your hand out where you would become a ledge for another player to catch on.... that way you could save teammates and stuff. Hehe. It'd be like 'Little Big Planet.' haha. ^_^
I could totally dig hanging off of other people that are hanging on ledges, that's an awesome idea. hehe. ^_^

edit 2: whatever this is about, its labeled as a game mode... and important enough to get its own little area in the game mode section. hmm. I wonder if Smash Bros will have some kind of "story" .... hmmm.

I think thats how the presentation video is gonna be like or something, kinda like Melee's was.
The characters in Melee were trophies and then they turned into the chars.
Maybe thats what this is.

Would you care explaining your understanding of this new update?
sure thing. well, what i think i understand of it is much like the two previous games both start with inanimate objects who then become into moving (living) things and start fighting each other.
Smash Bros had Master Hand pick two random action figures/dolls and then construct a makeshift battle arena out of a desk.
Melee in the intro have some arm grab mario in trophy form and it flips into the sky and tumbles to rest in an arena and you see he isn't alone. link, kirby and pikachu were also there to join in the... brawl? well yes.
on to Brawl, it seems its actually going to go into the reasoning behind the toys/trophys and being a trophy seems to be like death. so they become real, fight (cause that's there main purpose) this world is at peace and is in balance. untill something unsettles it... oooO!
so like previously stated. (one of the) adventure mode(s) should be a little more complete. and that they might go into the whole coming to life thing thats my understanding.
Strike911
07-20-2007, 09:00 AM
wait, I had a thought....
what if Smash Bros Brawl had a really engaging single player mode that had a great story with all the classic Nintendo characters. Think of Kingdom Hearts just... Nintendo. What if the single player was so engaging that people wanted to play the adventure mode just as much as multiplayer... because its so epic, dramatic, meaningful, and life changing?
Think about it. It'll blow your mind.
.... then you'll come crashing back to reality. ^_~

Isn't the basic concept of every Smash Bros. game the idea of trophies/dolls fighting each other? This just seems like an extension of that common theme, although I have no idea what that blob is.

I was just thinking to myself how updates so far have not been like, completely mind blowing in the sense that you'd go "oooh, I see now. So this IS SSBB!"
So you can imagine this update made my day :)
I'm guessing these screenshots are from some type of into movie. Very interesting and very curious about what they have in store for us now :)
Maybe the creature in the last screen is some type of new universal bad guy.
Since being turned into a trophy is as bad as death, I can imagine in this Smash Bros. winning the game would result in your character breaking free from such a fate, rather than being turned into a trophy again like in Melee.
Game...turning...too...awesome
EDIT: The screens suggest Mario turned Kirby back to life after him being turned into a trophy again. Him grabbing Kirby's hand shows a sign of friendship, but just as he does, evil stuff happens 0_0. Which is probably what they meant by "When someone...or something...breaks those rules, the world will pay a terrible price..."
Friendship = bad. Fighting = good >_>
eternal Zero

To recap:
Trophies fighting against each other is SOP. Once one wins, the other is turned back into a trophy. SOP designates that the victor reanimate the fallen so that they may fight another day. Friendship seems to be accepted as long as competition through fighting remains.
Breaking the rules could mean anything from preventing reanimation to complete destruction of the trophy.
