I hope they kept the previous version. I prefer that to the new mix, although the new one is OK. Maybe on the Wii it'll sound good... I think Sakurai added a bit too much 'crazy' to the cauldron for the in-game music.

But crazy tastes good, as we all know! :nicework:

Does anyone else hope that they use the Wind Waker version of Ganondorf instead of the Twilight Princess one? I found TP Ganon to be so blah.

ditto, but also OoT was a great version. That Ganon seemed truly evil... the last few ones have been too wimpy.

A Link to the Past and the first two have songs, so maybe something from Phantom Hourglass? The game looks pretty interesting.. I might pick it up next year.

Dude, Wind Waker Ganondorf will freakin' cut off your thumbs. And then slice off your head with his samurai swords.

Twice.

MasterSenshi

HAHA

I fought both the dudes. OoT would kick both their butts at the same time.

TP and WW were both too easy... so looking at it that way (rather than how cool they look; TP takes the cake there) OoT Ganon would win. He was harder, a lot harder actually, and didn't die so easily. TP had a few transformations, but none was really harder... the last fight was interesting, but it was more like "Wow, if the game had fights like this the whole way through, the game would be a 10!" way, not "THAT WAS THE BEST BOSS FIGHT EVER" way.

Of course my fave, LttP Ganon was tougher than all the others.. except for maybe Zelda II and IV... I never beat/played those...

I want PH now...

Xbob42
12-01-2007, 08:48 AM
Wind Waker's Ganon got owned in the best way though. Knife to the face! Plus Zelda helping in the last fight = awesome.

Uh, spoiler warning?

VERY TINY, HINTING AT SPOILER FOR Phantom Hourglass...

... Gotta be honest, Phantom Hourglass's main bad guy was not very cool. The game was phenomenal, but the main bad guy that was causing all the trouble was not interesting at all. The boss fight was fun and interesting but... yeah.

END OF SPOILERS...

.. but yeah, Phantom Hourglass had a great cast of supporting characters. Linebeck is quite possibly my favorite support character... either him or Midna... but Linebeck has such an interesting and funny personality I almost would pick him over Midna...

Yes, in fact, I would. I liked Linebeck better. :)

anyway, back on topic... I liked all the looks of Ganondorf... the only thing I didn't like about TP Ganondorf was

SPOILER!!!!111

His transformed form from Twilight Princess.... he's clearly better as a pig from OOT. That was an awesome transformation, and I hope with his Final Smash they pick that version as opposed to the TP version. I'm kind of feeling like they may go the TP route though, because they're using A LOT of TP assets and looks...

advertising tool? I think so. I do really like the Ganondorf from TP. I think he looks really bad ass and cool, but there's no denying that Ganondorf from WW had awesome katanas... so if they spliced the two I'd be happy... *shrugs* maybe a down+B move switched his blades ? And of course, Final Smash would turn into classic Ganon from OOT.....

... haha, or FS would be Ganon from the American animated Zelda cartoon. hahahahaha. /sarcasm

I agree with everyone that wants the pig-based Ganon for a FS a la LttP, Oracle, and OoT -- it's way better than WW and TP. Let's go with the LttP Ganon so we get a trident though...tridents = win.

I'd sacrifice all of that if we could give Link a Deku Mask move from MM to increase his speed and trade out some of his normals every once in a while though -- IMO Link is too slow, especially if they try and bring things back to their N64 roots.

Scufo
12-01-2007, 05:25 PM
One of my favorite things about WW was that they actually gave Ganondorf a personality. In TP he kinda reverted to EVIL EVIL KILL THINGS TAKE OVER WORLD EVIL GRRRR.

So yeah I like WW Ganon better. All they have to do is give Ganondorf a non-clone moveset in Brawl and I'll be happy though.

Paratha
12-01-2007, 06:47 PM
Regardless of which Ganondorf was actually more tough to fight, or was more intimidating, etc, the TP Ganondorf is the better-looking one, and the one I'd rather see in Brawl.

Though I think it would be a nice acknowledgment to previous Zelda games if his FS was either pig-Ganon from LttP or OoT: "You are doing well, lad. But can you break through this secret technique of Darkness? En Garde!"

Oh, the nostalgia LttP brings. :D

MasterSenshi
12-01-2007, 10:24 PM
OK, I'll apologize for starting the spoiler-fest. Next time I'll put it in white. Anyway, yes TP looks the best. If we can get TP Ganon, with his LttP or OoT transformation, it would be AMAZING.

Of course some purists would cry foul, but it still would great.

If Ganon gets a bit more speed, and keeps the fast throws with a few other moves, he could shoot up to first tier. We have 3 heavys now, five if you count Ike and Wario (I have no idea why Sakurai called Ike heavy...) so with 6, the game would finally have some weight-class balance.

Hector
12-02-2007, 12:21 AM
Why are we limited to just one Gannon? We've got two links (or is it three now); three plumbers; and possibly two Bowsers. Pig-faced Gannon is simply classic--but there is something to be said for the Gannon that pulls out a couple of blades and gets right to work.

friendlyHunter

They're talking about which Gannon should be in Brawl. Really, there can be only one, Gannondorf, and one Gannon/pig guy.

BTW, if they're going to put in some Namco characters, may as well put in Jin (Tekken) while they're at it. Some more realistic characters to mix it up with Snake. And Jin is pretty accustomed to being in crossover games by now.

I was hoping to see som SSB stages when I saw that 'update', but alas not. Maybe they're tucking that away for another 'update' or leaving it as a snippet to fill space on another day.

We would be past speculating at this point (except to how great/badly it would play) if they were releasing it on time. Oh well.. I have too many titles to play this break as it is, without adding another in. :-P

...but then again, what else has been shown in the gameplay videos that Sakurai hasn't announced? We've still got the Advance Wars AT coming up sometime, as well as the musics for the other stages. There's a number of assist trophies, actually, he hasn't shown us - perhaps Tails? And no doubt he's sitting on a pile of SubEm videos he has yet to display...

But of course, it HAS been a while since the last character update...

Yeah, I have to agree with Atma on this. The only "improvement" I see is the ability to see what your friends are doing online. For anyone who's played on X-Box Live, Nintendo's service is VERY lackluster. I understand wanting to keep things simple and safe, but in the end, it just holds them back, and ends up frustrating people who want more control/options.

Pffffff, too many Game Mode updates lately....boring....
Stuff like "woah, I can change my configuration" which can actually be done in, say...... every game? Woot. Go Sakurai, make us enthusiastic for the game.

I know that the game has been delayed, but still I wonder why Sakurai didn't see that coming and preserved so many boring updates for later. The characters have been revealed much too fast I'm afraid. Now we have to wait for two more months and the chances that we'll see another character before then are minimal. You're supposed to build up enthusiasm over time, not to break it down.
Oh well, let's hope that tomorrow brings us an interesting support trophy or a new Pokemon or something like that. Or DK's special moves (finally).

My roommate showed me a pic today of a Brawl box and a receipt in a French store. He pulled an all-nighter and doesn't remember where it's from. I can't find word of it in any of the likely places (news or rips, checked sites for both). It's just some tool's photoshop imo, but it seems it's fooled my roommate. It's not hard for a store to hack some store item to printout Brawl on the receipt, or shop some boxart. No disc art was in the pic.

Regardless, I'll be keeping an eye out for early releases even at this stage, but honestly I don't think the game will ship till ~2 weeks before the delayed release.

theres no lan play so no

and HOLY CRAP STOP SAYING BE THANKFUL ITS ONLINE
we are in an age that on ANYTHING but nintendo consoles a game that has ANY multiplayer is pretty much guaranteed to be online

There's no LAN play... but there's *Gasp!* online play! Hmmm, might be a smidge easier to work with rather than harder, don't you think? I do. And the frog in my pocket does too.

And yes, you should be thankful its online. It doesn't matter if Billy Bob and his Blonde Brunettes is online on the Wonderbacon Silver, we still had a fair chance of it not being online, and then you'd really be crapping a storm.

Stop setting yourself up for disappointment, you're going to have a stroke.

Well, now that it's December...

There's a thread in Smash Boards that goes something like, "every other month, Sakurai has released 3 newcomers at a time." It's such that we weren't supposed to get any newcomers in November so we'd get three this month... except we didn't even get ANY characters in November at all! The fact that they're still withholding the "unlockable veterans" from us makes me believe that any kind of pattern stopped once the delay was announced. I think IF we even get ONE character in December at all, it's going to be somebody like Cpt. Falcon or Luigi or Jigglypuff, etc. IF WE'RE LUCKY.

Personally, I think Sakurai had a predetermined time table for revealing characters that he's put on hold for the extra two months that got thrown in the mix. I don't think we'll see another true newcomer until around Christmastime.

The thing I don't like about friend codes, actually, is that some people don't like to bother to add random forum people (like me :< ). Maybe they're afraid of teh h4xX0rz?

Ah, hadn't noticed that he was an assist trophy until I went back and noted the bottom of that particular update. Sneaky wording. Ah well, never played Sin & Punishment so I can't say it's too big a loss for me.

Well we certainly can't expect there to be enough new things in the game for "MEGATONZ!!1!!" announcements daily for two more months now, can we?

Speaking of Megatons...they should have the Megaton Punch contest as a minigame in Brawl just for the heck of it...

the lan play was about warp pipe you obviously didnt get that
and online with a broken friends system and no ranking isnt even close to real online

i think the ONLY 360 game with multiplayer thats not online is earth defense 2017 or something but thats because the devs had literally NO budget
only ps3 game with multiplayer and not online i think is vf5 there may be more but im not sure
and uh if a pc game has multiplayer its obviously online
the fact that one out of every 30 or so wii games has online play shows how incredibly far back nintendo is

if i was getting my hopes up for a decent online system id be setting myself up for a disappointment. beings that i know its gonna suck major balls ill be just fine

Well, since I wasn't really expecting anything better than the norm from Nintendo, the revelation that yes, you CAN have friends in Brawl kinda made me feel relieved.

It's still not up to par, but at least I can still have faith that Nintendo will continue to stride the line between OK and deficient.

uh youve been able to have friends ever since mario kart ds, the FIRST ever wfc game

to be honest as far as im concerned there is no online play

like for example if im gonna wanna play one of you guys im gonna have to post here JOIN MY GAME AT THIS TIME that just plain sucks
i should be able to create a game and select friends to invite to my game

which actually brings this to another serious problem
in every wfc game ever youve had to actually CONNECT to wfc in order to appear online
so if this is anything like that you wont appear online if youre just playing the game you have to actually connect to the online mode and SIT THERE
so for all i know my friend could be playing single player mode and i wanna play with him and i dont even know hes there

Why defend inferior online practices? I see no reason to complain about requests for basic functionality the competition has already implemented.

The bottom line is that the database in my sig shouldn't be necessary. Secondary matchmaking methods like forums, IRC chats, Skype chats, IMs, etc shouldn't be necessary.

You should be able to passivly poll WFC for friend invites when you're playing Brawl and have a small icon (much like the "Friend Searching" icon for MKDS) when a friend has invited you.

Additional organizations, like a group feature where anyone who gets invited by a moderator to the group gets automatically friended by everyone in it (ie, automatic, built-in ClanOCR) would be even better. Voice chat, etc. would be great.

There is so much you CAN do with online, and others HAVE done. Why NOT push for a better system?

I agree with you on all points, Drack. However, devs have a limited time and budget. Nintendo is spending that time and money on things that make a game: balance, animation, control, etc. They've already had to delay the release once, and see how much flack they've gotten for that. Yeah, it'd be nice to have a great, Live-style online community, but I'd never ever choose that over a solid game. Online capability should never take precedence over the main development. I'd rather see a great game with a tacked-on online system than the alternative.

In short, I want Brawl, not Melee Online. Spend more time on characters, levels, music, animations, and balance than Nintendo learning online (and making the necessary mistakes) on such a high-profile game.

I want an great online system as much as the next guy (I have a ton of friends online, out of state, with which I'd love to play Brawl) but I don't want to play a mediocre game online.

This is a serious problem much of the time, and the reason why Pictochat on the DS completely sucks. Kirby: Canvas Curse had an option to actively search for Pictochat people while you played -- EVERY DS game should come with this option. Similarly, your friends should be able to tell if you have Smash in your Wii -- if you're playing single player, more than likely you'd be willing to hop online and play your friends. Nintendo should borrow a page from Half-Life 2 in this regard.

I really hate to say it, but the developer time argument really doesn't hold water. Coding a simple invite system would be very fast and easy and would not need to involve WFC server load. I've done gamecube and DS coding and I know that adding a feature like this wouldn't entail much. I could do it in a day.

Here's how:

Add a line in the options menu to listen for invites (trivial).
Add that boolean value to the save (trivial).
If that setting is true, once the player is anywhere in the game past the title screen, have the wii host a tiny listening server in a separate thread to overlay an icon to the display if an invite occurs, to ACK pings no more than once every 5 seconds (to prevent DoS) and to store the friend code and IP info for sender of the invite (Not trivial, but still relatively simple. Sockets are not hard to program).
Add a menu item to the online menu, to send an invite. Have that bring up the friend list. Ping each friend and only display those who ACK the ping. Have a short timeout. (not that complicated)
Add an event when someone clicks the invite received icon (which expires after one minute) with the IR of the wiimote, or a joystick cursor (GC controller...) in the pause menu or out-of-game menus. Have that ACK the invite and add to the online game the inviter is hosting.
The invite times out for the sender as well after one minute.

I've had homework assignments harder than this.

Edit: Brawl support added to the ClanOCR database, as the Dojo has revealed the friend code format to be xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.

Yeah, I guess you're right Drack. I know you know a little bit more about this stuff than I do, but eh. If I can play with friends online in Brawl, it doesn't matter to me if I have to type in a few numbers or whatever. It'll take about five minutes of my time, which in the scale of how long I'll be playing Brawl, is just about infinitesimal.

I don't disagree with the fact that it wouldn't be terribly difficult, but I can't just get myself riled up about it. Especially not to atma-levels.

Reading through the update, my first thoughts were "aww how cute, Nintendo's trying to do online! ^_^

I'm not totally disappointed though. The worst thing for me has to be the fact that you have to wait for people to join... and with no invites and no voice chat, I'd better get a longer chord on the phone, or a sofa on rails that glides between the TV and the computer with the push of a button. Preferably both.

I have some serious complaints though:

Put your numbers in a damn grid, people! Is it that hard?! I don't have time to needlessly scroll back and forth through all those numbers! THIS IS NOT NEW TECHNOLOGY!! Not everyone who owns a Wii has their own Wii remote to point with! We have to type in TWELVE painful digits for each friend, even though you've already implemented an adequate grid system for typing in your FOUR LETTER NAME?! Final Fantasy VI is, what, over a decade old now - they had FIVE letter names, and you type them with the letters in a NICE GRID... is it so much to ask??? These guys must be working on zero sleep to make mistakes like these. Either that or Sakurai's running out of things to show, so he has to put up screenshots of crappy unfinished GUIs. Gosh!

By the way, the circle at the top right of your Friend Roster approximates the connection quality of your last connection. The closer it is to blue, the smoother you’ll be able to play.

Nice support for the colour-blind, "Skrai", if that is your real name. Did you know that 1 out of every some number of people is colour-blind?? You can take your fifth letter and shove it up your item hole.

Ahem...

And on a lighter note:

So, Everquest, EVE online and WoW provide a world that is constantly online.

Why can't smash offer that, I mean, online is online and other people do it.

Of course they charge for their online services and they use some pretty present advertising. So yeah, lets complain about stuff that was offered to paying customers not being offered to non-paying ones.

And well, they want to offer a more family friendly approach. Think about your last randomly set up Halo 3 game with some strangers and try to see if it was family friendly...

I suppose I don't need to elaborate? Not really annoyed or whatever by this, it's human nature to "bargain", I suppose, but I guess since we've been "spoiled" so much these updates are letting people down after we've been given so much? Yes I end most sentences with a question mark?

I'm kind of getting the feeling that everything is starting to wrap up nicely. These "less interesting" updates are unavoidable, and would have to be done at one point or another.

They probably won't reveal EVERYTHING on the site, and seeing how the game WAS going to be released this week originally, I can imagine all that is left for them to do is finish up on their online stuff and whatnot (assuming that was the reason of the delay).

There's still a chance of more interesting secrets to be revealed soon, but these "Smash for dummies" updates will still be there too.

One a side note:

Stage builder + crazy physics + Super Wario on bike = at least 2 minutes worth of giggles :D

Friend matches? Sure it's nice, but I don't think we're gonna see a USB mic for Wii. Though it would be interesting to see the GC mic work, I don't think that's going to happen. It's handheld instead of headset, and doesn't seem to be very good quality.

Long time lurker here. I don't care too much about the fact that the Wii doesn't has a mic, I don't have friends to play video games with anyway (the people where I live are complete idiots and I live in the boonies).

The only reason why I'll be using the online aspect of Brawl is to fight against random people, and maybe to play with one of my cousins that doesn't suck at SSB. But Atma's right, Nintendo didn't really factor in all the people that play competitively at all, they just catered to the parents and little kids that want to play online, making the online aspect of Brawl a bitch to use for the more seasoned players with friends.

Like Atma said, who wants to sit by a phone or make a post saying JOIN MY GAME NOW to get their friends to play. I'm fine with the offline aspect of Brawl, I'll be happy just pummeling the level 9 CPUs to a pulp with Meta Knight.

Dear Sakurai:

This is late 2007. Your game will be released in early 2008. Please use all that extra time to make the Pokemon NOT look like utter ass. You have updated the texture maps on every single character (Kirby nonwithstanding) in the game, so a few measley Pokemon should be no exception. Thank you.

Sincerely,

There's a very good chance the game is already done. Around 2 months is generally needed to produce and ship the discs

That said, everything takes up memory. The Pokeball pokemon are low-poly and textured in simple, flat colours because those eat up less memory and therefore help prevent slowdown. The fewer polys the game needs to keep track of, the smoother and more consistent the framerate.

Not saying they aren't ugly, but there are reasons for them being so. Besides, I'd rather have a few ugly pokes than the absence of a decent gameplay mode, if it came down to texturing versus content.

Wow. So Sakurai says there will songs from games that aren't represented in Smash Bros... so I wonder if that is also true for levels, because if that is the case then it's possible there won't be an Animal Crossing character represented.

I like having tons of stuff from random games that don't have playable characters. More content is awesome. Of course, I guess we also had the Mach Rider theme in Melee which wasn't represented (not including the trophy... trophies don't count though as represented though).

I know it's from X, but the song reminds me a lot like a really fast version of a few songs from Phantasy Star Online for some reason...

Cool though. I like the fact that we get some synthesized goodness, something which was really lacking in Melee... again, Mach Rider and Flat Zone were the only ones I can think of off the top of my head... so good times. It's got that nostalgic NES sound that although I've never played "X" before, the song makes me feel like it's the late 80's early 90s again. :)

I know this could never happen, but imagine if Pokemon could damage the Smash Ball and then absorb it themselves.

If a Pokemon destroys a smash ball, I know a simple Final Smash that would be perfect. It will start raining pokeballs from the sky that indiscriminately attack all players. So for 15 seconds it would be wave after wave of Pokemon dropping from above. I think that would be easy to implement, and pretty fun.

I always liked it when Bobombs fell from the sky in Melee during Sudden Death when it went too long. :) They need some more stuff like that!

Hector
12-05-2007, 07:06 PM
Last time I played with handicaps on, I had them adjust automatically. One of the players had the twisted idea of purposely losing so that he could get the power of handicap 9. Things quickly turned painful after that.

Xbob42
12-05-2007, 08:00 PM
I think it's pretty safe to say that Pity Smashes are either part of the Handicap system or can be turned off. Obviously if you can turn Smash Balls (Heh, that sounds funny... Smash balls...) off then logically there'd be a way to turn Pity Smash off. Even then, a "significant" point advantage sounds like you'd have to be kicking the crap out of someone to get a Pity Smash, and even then, they're not guaranteed it. At least this is how I interpret it.

Just how bad do you people need to whoop someone?!

Scufo
12-06-2007, 12:11 AM
Oh, it's not that I think a pity smash can turn around a game or anything. The person using it will still probably lose, but it's just really lame to hand the loser a super-powerful attack just for the sake of slightly reducing the amount they'll lose by. Also I could see it getting annoying in 4 player matches.

No big deal though. Of course you can turn them off. I just hope there's separate on/off toggles for smash balls and pity smashes.

Aninymouse
12-06-2007, 12:37 AM
Honestly, with how broken certain final smashes seem to be (Bowser at the very least) it doesn't look like money matches are going to allow them at this point unless all trends are bucked and they let certain other items not named Super Spicy Curry in. We'll see.

Yeahhhhh, fixed handicaps in games are silly. Two examples of how they can be done pop up in my mind; Blitz and Mario Kart. I don't know about you guys, but when I'm winning a long ass race by a bit the entire way through and then get hit with a blue shell at the last second, it never fails to piss me off. Even when I fire a blue shell, I feel like a complete douchebag.

On the other hand, Blitz is just retarded fun, and very hard to take seriously. Thus the handicap, which could get ridiculous, was mainly just amusing. That having been said, it was still irritating to lose a close game by a last minute fumble return.

Suffice it to say, I'm sure you'll be able to mess with the pity settings.

Yeah, good point. But he's not that popular, is he? People would probably see him and be like 'WTF?' But then again, I'm one of those people who's hoping for obscure characters (like Geno).

I'd say the pity smash balls will be toggle-able. I wonder, though: will CPUs get pity smashes?

friendlyHunter

I think Bomberman's definitely popular enough to be playable. If it weren't for Smash Bros, I'd wager he'd be more well-known than Ice Climbers, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, and Earthbound. Possibly...

I wonder, though: will CPUs get pity smashes?
Why not? Computers have feelings too! Especially when you're fighting a team of 3 Bowsers. If you start winning by too much, you'd better watch out!!!

Hmmm... if the pity smash (which I will hereby refer to as "loser ball") is customizable to the point that you can make everyone but the first place player(s) get a loser ball, it could make for some interesting matches....

Only motion mines and Bob-ombs on highest, 300% damage, loser balls turned to max, 4-Wario free for all with 50 lives each... top that off with a custom stage that's shaped like a funnel and blasting "hip" beats, and you've got yourself a fun time filled with impressive bike jumps. WOW I finally grasped just how customizable this game is going to be 8O

Wait, wait, I'm getting something....

Gigantic level shaped like slanted girders with ladders... Gravity set to max... fixed camera, only barrels on highest... WAIT, and some hammers too.... 3 Mario's with 300% damage vs 1 Donkey Kong with 0% damage... DK arcade remix..!!!! WOOOAAAOAAOOAAHHOHHH!!!!!

My roommate is retarded at times.

You saw earlier how he bought the premise of the 'shopped image of Brawl being bought at some French store (a pic that seems to have originally appeared on 4chan...). Now he's saying that the delay was intentional and unnecessary, a deliberate marketing move to keep software sales high both during and after the holiday season, by moving one of the highest demand games' release to after the Christmas rush. This should please stockholders as they like continued high sales rather than holiday season spikes.

I really don't see how this argument holds water. Brawl has had so much effort poured into it, and many big name composers working on it as well. Some of the music on the Dojo isn't live performed, or even quite worthy of the names behind them. The E for All demo had few characters and fewer stages available. The game certainly isn't finished, though the lack of interesting updates shows that a lot of the work is either being done on the internals and core system (which seems appropriate as impressions from E for All were generally not showing many new game mechanics), or the single player, which we've only seen a bit of. I believe that Nintend is pulling a Blizzard, and not releasing content until it can be guananteed to be the best they can put out. And if it IS finished, I see little market advantage in witholding the smash hit (haha) game until AFTER the season where customers spend the MOST. Big early 2008 titles are ALREADY in the works, like Mario Kart Wii.

The Author

The method at Nintendo is that they would rather scrap a project than release an unsatisfying one. I believe it has happened in the past.

In fact, from Wikipedia:

Miyamoto and fellow developers refer to this scrapping as "Chabudai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chabudai) Gaeshi" (ちゃぶ台返し, "upending the tea table"), a reference to manga and anime Star of the Giants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_of_the_Giants).[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigeru_Miyamoto#_note-11) It is also referred to as "Miyahon Check" (Miyahon is an alternative kanji reading of Miyamoto) or "Miyamoto Test".[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigeru_Miyamoto#_note-12)

"Twinkle Popo" was a completed product with a pre-order of 26,000 units. It was supposed to be released under the game's developer, HAL Laboratory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_Laboratory). Miyamoto intervened arguing that, with a tiny bit of tweaking, it would become a great game. After cancelling the pre-order, the game was eventually released under Nintendo with the title Kirby's Dream Land (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby%27s_Dream_Land), selling 5 million units globally.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time) was supposed to be released immediately after the release of the Nintendo 64 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_64) (Japanese release date, 6 June (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_6) 1996 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996)). Instead, Miyamoto, who was the producer, repeatedly ordered the game to be redone, resulting in numerous announcements of delays by Nintendo until the game's eventual release on 21 November (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_21) 1998 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998). Ocarina of Time sold over 7.6 million units and has the highest average review score of any game ever made.
Eiji Aonuma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiji_Aonuma) was initially the producer of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess). However, between 2005 to 2006, Miyamoto replaced him. He stated that the switch was the result of a year-long development being "Chabudai Gaeshi"ed. [16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigeru_Miyamoto#_note-13) In the same interview, Miyamoto said that he had to clean up the mess of his Chabudai Gaeshi, so he joined in as a producer and also to assist in the development of the game. Twilight Princess, eventually released for both the GameCube (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_GameCube) and Wii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii) consoles, has received tremendous critical acclaim and commercial success in the Western markets.

I actually like what they did with random battles....to a point. I'm still irritated by NWFC in general, but I like the CPU coming in to fight if someone drops out/connection gets lost. Keeps the battle the same as if nothing happened? I wonder what level the CPU will be at if someone gets dropped?
I'm guessing it'll figure out some level based on the proportion of how many lives the "dropper" had in relation to everybody else's stock count.

I woder if we'll be able to tell if someone gets dropped? Like if it makes a sound?

But even without this mode, given the proliferation of the Internet these days, the existence of hidden characters is going to get exposed anyway.

i enjoyed that statement

That darn internet is all over the place, revealing Smash characters, government secrets, and Harry Potter plots.

Ya know...

Some people don't like to have secrets revealed. I noticed Sakurai said nothing about secret stages. The stage and character select screens look like the same as in E For All, so I suppose you could have stages unlocked that you haven't opened yet.

I hope the instruction manual has something for people who aren't geeks. I'll be playing with live people mostly, but it would suck for things to be spoiled by somebody new to the game, or with a sucky internet connection.

Otherwise I like this post... it's better than the rest of the crap for something like the last 3 weeks. Not much new, but at least it was interesting.

Hmmm, at least there was some new information today. Let's hope next week is much better.

Yep yep.

They said something like 30-40 chars. They haven't even shown a roster equal to the Smash Bros. Melee...

Perhaps Sakurai never intended everything to be shown on the site. If he keeps lollygagging like this, we may be able to discover things in the game ourselves! :-P

if there was any kind of ranked play you could avoid playing new people altogether (assuming you dont suck balls)

I'm not going to hold my breath or anything but, there could still be a ranking mode.

It looks like the color of the Wi-Fi menu is pink. Maybe 'cause it's gay.

I always liked the whole stage/course voting thing, but why can't he let us adjust items?! Still, most of the people I'll be playing will be sitting in the same room as me, so it's not that bad. If it's the same way in Friends mode (and I assume it is) real tournaments are still going to have to be held at a specific location, sadly.

WHO THE BALLS ACTUALLY PLAYS TIME

In a four person fight, time can actually be better than stock. Since the winner isn't the last person standing, but instead, the person with the most KOs, it keeps those Samus, Fox, Falco, etc. players from sitting back shooting missiles/lasers/whatevers at everyone. While a truly skilled player doesn't need to resort to tactics like that, there's a much higher chance you'll be playing people who would. It would only be fair that the kid playing Pikachu never wins 'cause all he does is tap B over and over.

showing there is no other mode besides friends and anyone
and we see whats inside with anyone

Your opponent will not know your name or any information about you, and neither of you can send short messages. There will also be no battle records kept for this mode, so whether you win or lose, it doesn’t matter. Just sit back and play.

aka NO

We don't even know whether we can do 1v1 yet. Probably not. I actually don't mind time in free for alls; ffa stocks can involve a lot of ganging up on the player with the most lives left.

Hopefully we'll be able to set our online preferences for things like stock vs. time, stock number, item switch, etc. Oh, and number of players. If I were to make an online mode, I'd think I would allow people to play in random one-on-one matches.

johnny b is a genius everyone!

and if youve ever played a wfc game youll know that you cant control how many people you play with they just try to get you 4 and since the online is gonna probably be full of fags itll always be a 4 player match

and you wont be able to set preferences like that
id bet money im right about that

Isn’t that simple? You don’t have to trouble with any settings. However, if you do want to go through settings, you can.

Just kidding! We're still gay; don't worry.
