Go play Super Metroid again... (~_~) His skeleton form doesn't fight you... its DEAD!
You should go in for a checkup, your sense of humor is wacked...

That's true... but I'm also right (>.>)
Crocomire doesn't fight you again after you beat him... the wall crumbles down, his skeleton sits there for a second, then it crumbles to the floor.
Unless there's some non-US version of the game, that I haven't played, that includes an extra fight with him, that's how that section goes down.
Alternatively... Friendly Hunter could be making a joke... and in that case, I've totally missed the humor. Oops? (o_0)

Yeah, not to mention you don't use the Crystal Flash and bombs or whatever someone said earlier to beat him. You just shoot him in the mouth until he falls into the lava.

"You can expect however, to see two of Square's characters, Cecil and Geno. If you need more detail, Cecil is a faster version of Ike, with a different Final Smash, and Geno is a blue Scarecrow from some obscure Mario game that attacks using stars and lazers."
Complete B.S., but Cecil from Final Fantasy 4 would almost make up for the lack of Mega Man. Almost. Either way, it would be awesome.

well I don't think there are gonna be clones of people this time. Luigi is replaced with Wario Ness is replaced with lucas Jiggly Puff replaced with pokemon trainer maybe but I think Falcon is too popular to be replaced.

Lucas may in fact be replacing Ness, but this is not necessarily the case. A lot of his moves are very different. His smash attacks are different, not having a yo-yo, and it's been revealed that his b-air has the added spike functionality. His special moves, although looking similar, have different effects from the old Ness.
PK Fire goes horizontally in the air, which is a BIG change, opening up his short-hopping game (In melee, you couldn't shffle fire effectively, because the attack wouldn't connect with the opponent). It even LOOKS more powerful.
Also, for some reason, his PSI Magnet is in front of him, instead of completely surrounding him. It's also much bigger than the melee version.
Anyway, it makes no sense for them to have put so much work into making Lucas so very different from Ness if Ness wasn't going to be in. He had a perfectly good moveset before; no reason to rework it so drastically. The same thing applies to Marth and Ike. Marth, or at least his moveset, will return to the game. Sakurai isn't going to waste a perfectly good moveset.
Also, Jigglypuff replacing PT, and Wario replacing Luigi? wtf?

I can live with 'clones,' as long as they are reasonably, noticeably different from their counterparts, and as long as they make SENSE.
If clone characters are to be included, let them at least be from the same game. The Ganondorf thing in Melee was disastrous. It's pretty much a unanimously agreed upon fact that he needs a unique moveset.
I wouldn't call Luigi a clone of Mario. But their similarities are logical, because they are brothers. Furthermore, their differences will be even more prominent this time around because Mario has Fludd as his Down-B. Maybe Luigi will whip out the ol' Poltergust?

Oh sorry I must have the Canadian version of Super Metroid. The one with the "controversial" Samus picture at the end. ;-)
(;-) This symbol indicates a wink, in that I am winking a wink which is directed at you ;-) ;-))
I'm pretty much 100% sure Luigi and Falcon are in, 90% sure for Jigglypuff and Ganondorf, 30% for Sheik, 25% for Ness, and, erm.... 10% for Megaman, 2% for Geno.
Of course, these figures are pure speculation. Although I do have VERY convincing evidence that Sakurai rolled a 10 sided die to decide whether or not to include Megaman.

No, they actually said this in an IGN interview.
"IGN: Does this pave the way for Sonic and Mario starring together in other games?
Laurent Fischer: We've spent a long time finalising this one and we're not thinking about the next game, just yet. The Olympics just seemed like the right way to bring them together.
IGN: So we won't see Sonic appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl?
Laurent Fischer: That's not on the cards at the moment."

Yeah, I'm not too worried. I wouldn't have even seen its add in my newspaper unless my friend hadn't pointed it out to me in class. So hopefully, none of the good smash players from around here will have even gotten that far. Not only that, but there's a more serious tournament going on in Des Moines today, so they might not even be in town!
In the best case scenario, I'll be surrounded by n00bie 10 year olds who just use Bowser and Roy, and I'll take 1st place easy!
I'm just wondering how exactly I should train...Since this likely doesn't even have a hint of professionalism, should I even bother training in 4-stock, no item matches on Fountain of Dreams? For all I know, they'll be using 2-min, normal item matches or something!

It is a metroid, no mistake.
I had to watch it a few times, but the flash that's visible right next to the metroid is Zelda's lightning kick. Right after that, Yoshi KO's Zelda—watch the icons for the score—so I don't think the metroid really gets to do anything other than make its presence known. The metroid assist just latches onto characters and incrementally incurs damage like the Lip's Stick flower; as it should be.
Metroids FTW.
Oh yeah, I forgot. Metroids are supposed to be that big. They made them smaller in the Prime games.

Assist trophies? Awesome. Basically like Pokéballs to me but with more scope for cameos, which is what Smash Bros. is about for me as an individual universe conceptually.
As for things like the Dragoon? I don't know. It looks cool, but fighting over items like that, collecting them for the long term... I agree with you. The past two games have not been bad. I just don't know. I'm not even so sure I'm too hot about Smash Balls.

Haha, I was reading the Metroid page on wikipedia (don't ask), and, well... the last line caught me by surprise.
Also introduced in Super Metroid was a musical theme that played during several boss battles (which some say sounded like something of a sinister remix of the theme music to the 1966 television show, Mission: Impossible).[19] Despite being used for other bosses, the theme became particularly associated with Ridley, and has been featured solely during all the subsequent battles against him.
Ridley is in Super smash bros brawl.

I don't know where he said it, but I think Sakurai said the pace wouldn't be as fast as Melee. Oh, I think it was more that he said certain things will be easier to do, like catching items.
That's probably a good thing, in general. They probably did that partly to make it more accessible, which coincides with Nintendo's continuing gaming trend. However, I still think they're intentionally packing in as much [too much] into the game so it's still too deep for any one person to become a real pro at it for some time.
I do hope they fix all the glitches from Melee. A level field is a good field.
On the Smash Ball thing: If I do end up turning off items—which probably won't be for a while as they look really fun—I will most likely be keeping Smash Balls enabled, as I don't really consider them a pure item. They enable more attacks, changes in strategy, chaos; and besides, as far as we know, ZS Samus won't be available without using the Smash Ball. :)!!

Yes, there is. When 1up.com gave it's coverage, they told what happens when ZS Samus gets the Smash Ball-- she does Crystal Flash and gets her suit back. It is unknown if it hurts your players or gives you health, but that's what happens when ZS gets a smash ball.

Fight? No no. No fights here. I just thought you didn't know about dojo because you thought zero suit and regular samus were the same. And nothing but contrary things are posted in it. No aggressive fighting attitude was intended. ;-)
as for topics yet overkilled... uh.. the only thing I can think of is the different game physics and universal movement this time around.
Enlighten me.
I actually don't know what's changed in that regard.
And some new information would overshadow my worries about the game's speed. SSB is too slow. No question. But I personally don't find Melee to be too fast, and I'm not sure how I'm going to like anything slower...

I don't know what has changed either. Thats why I was hoping people would discuss. I heard that they changed physics engines. I also heard that momentum in running physics were modified and dodging as well (and consequently no WD). I don't know about the games speed yet, but it doesn't look much different. And what is with everyones ability to crawl now?
RTYPEpilot
01-07-2008, 12:53 AM
The crawling also caught my eye when they first showed it... It does have some strategic qualities, I suppose.
With the physics changes, I still think they're trying to level the learning curve to allow more people to try the game. Nintendo says they're trying to encourage more people to play games, so as I've speculated before, that may be part of the reason for things like a hinted elimination of physics anomalies like wavedashing.
One change that I thought was a bit extreme, was the walk-n-shoot ability. It just seems like something that'd be very abusable. Now if you can also jump while shooting, that'd be really scary. :dstrbd:

So, I'm back from the Library tourny.
Just as I suspected, the only competition was a bunch of n00bie 10 year olds. Mariokart went the best. I won both races I did. I used Yoshi and Paratroopa. I even fell into the piranha plant pit (in dry dry desert), yet I still was far in the lead! I almost got second in the last race, but I got a red shell just in time. Then I hit a car, but was lucky because it was a mushroom car. Grabbed the mushroom that fell out, and jetted straight into the finish line!
Melee went almost as well. I got second on Yoshi's story with Falcon. One time I dodged in midair, and slid way out to the side, and thus, fell to my death.
Finally, we went to Hyrule Temple, and I was Link. After a long, drawn out match, it was just me and a Sheik. We went back and forth, him using needles, and me trying to dive on top of him with my sword. We got down to our last lives. He was at 50% and I was at 170%. I was pretty much boned, so I hid down below the level in desperation! Finally, when Sheik dove down towards me, I hit him with a foward A move. He flew from it, and then I up B'd him.
I won.
Now, I have to keep going back every 1st sunday of the month until April. Then, hopefully, I can claim 1st prize: An iPod Nano and a videogame store gift certificate.
I really can't wait to do this kind of stuff with Brawl and Mariokart Wii!

Well, that only holds true if you're talking about a main for competitively playing. For example, I would never take Bowser to a tourney, but for a fun game with friends, I would use him, sure. I don't think myself able to tell the "top-tier" characters at this point, but I know that Wario looks hilarious to play as.
Still, when I get my hands on the game for the first time, I think I'm going to be playing my first match with Dedede - just because he looks fun to play as. Who knows what his chances are for competitive play.

I'd say Temple is more straightforward, albeit large. Brinstar Depths rotates; so what?

Eh, I think its because people can just lurk in the bottom part with ridiculously high % and stay alive. After all, that's how I won! I wouldn't have had a chance against Sheik otherwise.

Someone must realize that these stages are going to play completely differently in Brawl than they did in Melee, right? They've undoubtedly removed the things that made these stages bad (or, worse than they could have been).
I didn't like Rainbow Cruise because of the ridiculously high gravity in Melee, and because several of the characters (such as Kibry) can't move horizontally fast enough to escape the screen scrolling. In Brawl I can see this being an extremely fun stage (especially the dangerous parts!)
I hated Yoshi's Island because Melee characters can't fight on sloped surfaces, and the high gravity and several other factors make the hole in the center kill you (and by "you" I mean "me") instantly without warning. Now it looks like it'll be one of the more fun and interesting stages, with destructible floors that will actually effect gameplay =)
And let's not forget Corneria, where both players being in the air makes the camera pan up so far that you can't see where the ground is, the ground that you're about to LAND ON in a quarter of a second (or, er, NOT land on and subsequently die). That, coupled with getting shot with ships that were never on the screen, and the sloped ground, made it a pretty lousy stage. Hopefully it's now back to its SSB64 glory!! ^_^ (or, at least a smaller version of it...)
And Brinstar wasn't that great because it was too small... but now half of the stages in Brawl are that size, it's not so small anymore =D
[Edit]
I love when a buddy is smug up on top of an awning and it falls right as a car passes by, nuking him right off the map.

I do, but Sonic is in Brawl, and he didn't appear on Nintendo until Game Cube, IIRC and the same applies to Solid Snake. I am at fault for saying "classic Nintendo" character if the definition of "classic Nintendo" characters are restricted to having been published by Nintendo.
Again, I was only trying to express my surprise that MegaMan, who has been appearing on Nintendo consoles for over two decades, has not been included in Brawl at this point. I have no feelings on whether he should or should not be included, just surprise. And mild surprise at that.

Instead of being "surprised" that a third party character does not appear in a game previously restricted to first and second party characters, you should be happy that Snake and Sonic appear. We may or may not get a third one, and they may or may not be lying about Megaman, just you know, to keep some surprises in the game.

I wish they chose other stages to represent in the update. I don't know anyone who likes Brinstar. Also, I have a friend who HATES melee's corneria because it's smaller relative to the characters than 64's sector Z. Looks like that hasn't changed for Brawl's obligatory great fox stage.

Mega Man is a classic capcom character and he was born and raised on the good ol' NES. It's a damn shame that he couldn't fit in on the roster and I still want to cry because of his absence. Of course, in this world, there is a limit to how awesome things can get. If Mega Man were added to Brawl, it would exceed the awesomeness meter of reality and the universe would cease to exist (Mega Man, Sonic, Snake, and all of those Ninty guys? Not in this dimension!). Thus it cannot happen. Still, I am shaken with grief.

All I know is Rainbow Ride's return makes me happy. Despite that a lot of people don't like forced scrolling, I really liked that stage. Wasn't too surprised about Corneria. Though the one that had me going "WTF" was Brinstar, which in my experience was not popular at all, though glancing at this board seems to have proven me wrong. I was kind of neutral toward it. But anyway.
Megadave's right on the issue of Mega Man. He's seen a huge amount of action on Nintendo consoles, so that's why he's desired by many as a candidate, third party or no. Personally, I'd like to see him, but if he's not there, whatever, y'know? We have Sonic and Snake, and that's damn lucky enough as it is.

I still don't see why people say Mega Man would be a Samus clone.
Other than the charge shot, there would be no similarities in their moves. I mean, Mewtwo had a charge shot and he wasn't considered to be another Samus, right? :P

I don't see any similarities between the two besides the ability to charge their guns. Mega Man's short jump is a far cry from Samus' slow-motion flipping jump. Mega Man increases speed by sliding (or dashing for post-classic Mega Man) while Samus simply runs. Their attacks and abilities are also way different. I also think that Mega Man would not have to stop to charge his buster. After that, factor in Mega Man's copycat abilities and his dog, Rush. Then factor in the various abilities of the kajillions of bosses he's stolen which would actually make it into Brawl had Inafune begged Sakurai.
In other words, I have no idea on why the two are compared so often. Yet, for some reason, I would love to see a battle between the two of them.

Before I say anything else, Classic Mega Man would make this the most perfect game of its kind, and one of the best games ever created. However, Brawl without Mega Man still = 99% of that last statement.
But Classic Mega Man deserves to be in this game. His history with Nintendo is unrivaled with other iconic, 3rd party characters. There simply isn't one person who would make a better choice.
Those who say he's a Kirby/Samus copy, cut it out. Mega Man doesn't usually (or, ever) swallow his foes, nor does he roll up into a ball and get various suit upgrades (or, at least, not even close to how Samus does).
First of all, he gains abilities by defeating his foes. This can be incorporated into Brawl ingeniously! Rather than get an exact copy of his foe's B move like Kirby does, Mega Man could receive a brand new weapon that is only related to their B move. Some examples:
Mega Man KO's Pikachu: He gets his electric power from Mega Man 1.
Mega Man KO's Mario/Luigi: He gets his fire power from Mega Man 6. (His fire power from MM2 seems a little drastic to obtain from Mario's lil' fireball, no?)
Mega Man KO's Kirby/King Dedede: He gets a vacuum power.
Mega Man KO's Link/Meta Knight/Ike/other sword user: He gets his slash power from Mega Man 7.
You see what I mean? Even if my obtained abilities list sucks, just think of the idea in general at least! No copycats of Kirby/Samus here. These moves could all just replace his Mega Buster, which would be assigned to his normal B move. And, as has been said before, he should have the ability to charge while running, as he does in his games. Maybe it could be a little nerfed, so as to avoid cheap comparison's to Samus's charge beam?
Anyway, all of my dreams come true when Classic Mega Man is playable (like ^that) in Brawl. And none of that Mega Man .EXE crap either!

Captain Falcon confirmed? Red Alloy looks eerily similar to good old Falcon's fighting stance (just like the old wireframes).
Blue looks like (possibly) Zelda's graceful movements? Maybe ZeroSuit Samus? *shrugs* It was Zelda for the wireframes so I'll assume Zelda right now.
Green is more likely than not Kirby's regular moves.
Yellow is probably Mario. Judging by the way he's falling with his arms in the air (just like Mario back in the day) in the last pic. Those horns remind me of ICO. lol.
All of this is assuming that we see some similarities between copying regular attacks for these generic fighters in a similar fashion of how they did it with the wireframes (Falcon and Zelda moves).
I'm so happy to see some emphasis on cooperative play. That makes me soo happy because while I love pummeling my pals (and being pummeled too), nothing beats being able to be a team. I hope we see some cool cooperative mission scenarios, like defend the right side, or something along those lines. Cool stuff. AND I like the alloys.
