I actually like the BestSkinsEver.com ones. You have to apply them using a slightly soapy water mix, but once it sets, it's fucking good. And if you want to redo it, it will peel off without leaving lots of smudges or anything.

I dunno... think it's a stretch because Rare still made GBA and DS games long after acquisition. Just look at Diddy Kong Racing. Just not console games.
Besides, it's not like Microsoft has any portable system of its own. Might as well go with the one guaranteed to make a solid buck or two. Or millions.

Does anyone know if the screen dimensions for the DS and the Lite are the same? I've managed to buff out nearly all the scratches on my touch screen now, but I'm feeling a lot more cautious about playing EBA until I know my screen is safe.

Easy to put on as long as you're careful. But even if you're not, they're removable and re-applicable if you mess up. In fact, you can take them off and put them back on several times.
I got mine on no problem the first time, though.

I saw a pack of thin plastic shell/screen protectors at Target for $10 that looked like official-esque Nintendo packaging but also had a Hori logo on the front. It has protectors for the outside top, both screens, and (IIRC) the areas around the dpad and buttons. It comes with a small cleaning cloth as well. Are these the sort of Hori screen protectors many people here have recommended, and if so, is that the standard price?

Well, I saw a similar set of MadCatz screen protectors & shells at a nearby Wal-Mart for the same price. I personally would say I guess that would be the standard price, give or take $5-6. But the ones that you're referring to looked a lot like the original except a bit heavier than the official Nintendo stuff and come in three colors (I think...)
I personally haven't heard anything in like a reference to buying them, but they do look rather decent. One of my co-workers has one and she only bought it because it was the first thing that caught her eye. That DS alone has been through abuse, but it's still intact - - with the protection in place.
But it's totally up to you if you want to chuck out the money for it.

Since I own both, I can say that Cooking Mama DS is well worth your time -- great game that is good for things like the 10 minutes between classes.
The Wii edition, on the other hand, will only entertain you the first time you get your friends to play it drunk. After that, it's useless -- the controls aren't nearly as good, and the multiplayer is approaching terrible.
Also...is anyone here playing Megaman Star Force? I've got Dragon, and am looking for anyone to add as a friend (but especially Pegasus and Leo players). My FC is 206266320901, and I'm currently level 22 in the school. Any level anyone is just fine with me, just respond in this topic with which Satellite you are on and your FC.

Amazon.com is having a one-day sell of Pokémon Pearl for only $20. And they also hae Fire Red and Leaf Green for the GBA for $20 as well. You can get two games for the price of one, and since you can use the GBA games to transfer GBA pokes over, and make rare ones appear on your DS game... there's lots of good reasons to get them.

I'm quite awful at Castlevania DS. Nice music though. My favorite DS series has to be Elite Beat Agents along with their Japanese siblings (Ouendan). I could play those forever.
How long did it take for you to get bored of it?
I really tried to like the game, but eventually lost interest after an hour or two. Some of the music is pretty nice, but otherwise the game's a generic kart racer, and a bad one at that. All the characters and places are boring and bland. Gameplay is slightly innovative with touch screen tricks, but ultimately unbalanced and unresponsive.
I really liked the N64 SBK games. Hopefully they'll show up on Wii's Virtual Console soon.

So my L-button on my DS phat just doesn't work at all anymore. I think somehow a grain of sand got stuck in the connection. Any recommendations? (Basically should I send it to Nintendo to get it repaired, and if so, how much does that cost - or do I have other options? I really don't want to get a new DS.)
Also, just in case no one's mentioned it yet, Call of Duty DS looks AMAZING. It's even better news that the controls are more or less identical to Hunters, which I always thought people complained about too much - I thought the Hunters controls were very comfortable, smooth, and even efficient.

Well, I didn't care for the controls in Metroid Hunters but that's not what killed the game for me. I just flat out couldn't see what was happening comfortably. I just beat Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. I estimate it took me about 25 hours to beat. Mind you, that's probably like 20 if I didn't have to spend time translating ;-). That's still a good length for it I think. There aren't as many dungeons as say, LttP, but there's lots of stuff outside the dungeons you have to do. And unlike Wind Waker, those kind of out-of-dungeon tasks don't feel as meaningless. Control mechanics are pretty good too, and the touch screen is integrated very well. Final battle wasn't disappointing either, although like all Zelda games, it could've been a little harder.
I recommend it to anyone who's considering buying it. Solid game.

Anyone playing Heroes of Mana or Luminous Arc? I picked up both last week, and am especially enjoying Luminous Arc. Some of the characters are annoying, but I'm enjoying it more than Final Fantasy Tactics, mainly because you don't have any choice over which class a character is, so you don't run into the "I have 30 classes, which should I make and when?" thing.
Heroes of Mana does have some pathing problems, like the reviewer on gamespot mentioned, but I'd hardly call it a 5.5/10. I haven't played it as much as Luminous Arc so far, but both are good.
Jam Sessions looks like a neat idea. What'll sell me is palette swapping. I'd ideally want to put 8 chords on a palette, plus if you hit the left shoulder trigger, it swaps to the next palette you define. It's obviously not written for jazz guitar, but only 8 chords per song seems too limiting to me.

I've played the Japanese version of Jam sessions and it seems a little limited. It's just chords. I suppose that's enough for some people but I think that it should have chords AND individual notes AND the ability to record songs with both. Otherwise that toy shouldn't be more than $14.99 U.S. dollars. And it doesn't look like they are adding much for the new release. And there's a Disney game coming out that blows Jam Sessions away in terms of features. What!
I played Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates and it seems pretty good. You don't get to choose your own character but that's because of the increased focus on story. But I don't know Japanese so whatever. They added some interesting combat moves like grabbing enemies and somehow whaling on them with your sword while holding them above your head (or holding on from below if it is a flying enemy). And it is nice that there is no longer such a ridiculous delay between pressing the button and actually attacking. Was it possible to jump in the gamecube Crystal Chronicles? I don't remember, but you get to jump and do some platforming on the DS version. I liked the Gamecube version but from what I've played Ring of Fates may well be a lot better.

Probably from being the same exact game as single player with the same scaling system from the original CC. Not that I'm complaining...
Or if they wanted to "ruin" it they could just have specific multiplayer levels. Lemme specify: It depends on your point of view. It heavily limits the levels and replay of multiplayer, but it may give them some focus to it so they they improve the game in more ways than just gameplay.

The story goes that for FF4, about half of the script was abandoned, including a bit of backstory about Kain and his father.
As much as I would enjoy a faithful update to 3-D, I sincerely wish they decide to expand on the story a lot more. They could flesh it out a lot more without sacrificing the main story. FF3 was good as it was because I never did play it on the NES, but this will need a big overhaul since the nostalgia factor is gonna be gone.

Wait, you mean that for the DS remake, they're actually cutting parts of the story? At the very least, we need the same translation and amount of script as in the GBA game, and I'd prefer slightly _more_.

No, I meant that the SNES version was heavily edited to reduce the content, as it was a pretty big story to begin with. Therefore when it was originally released, a part of the story concerning Kain was dropped.
I hope the DS remake will use that story.

It's amazing how everyone was crying for the remakes of FFVII-FFIX on the PS2(I'm still waiting for FFVIII), and yet they're tackling the SNES games first.

Having never picked it up, I can only go by said reviews. Surely someone has it and can verify.

It's slightly easier, but strangely enough, I am taking a lot more time to do it. Haven't died so far but my mastery over FF6 was pretty much total and I rarely lost more than one character per hour of play. The esper cave was, however, quite the habitual bitch, but then again, it was easier than usually (especially the hidden ninja that was pulverised where as it used to be a tough fight.)

Actually the game is definitely easier than the old version. Less encounters, less power and speed of enemies. And only a few optional bosses are any real challenge.
Though the worst sin of the game is that the GBA simply can't handle SNES-like sounds.

I just finished playing through the 3rd Phoenix Wright game this morning (stayed up until 3:00 playing it...yes!)
It's absolutely incredible. The 5th case was a whirlwind of awesome start to finish. If any of you guys played the first one, get this now (even if you didn't like the 2nd that much) -- it's a great read, and a real tribute to the text-based games of our parents generation.

I'll be getting it...in like October or whenever it was delayed to. So, aside from PW, Phantom Hourglass, and I guess Ninja Gaiden (even though it looks like you need to have played the recent games to get this story and I haven't played a Ninja Gaiden game since the third one on the NES) is there anything else coming out this year to keep an eye on? Luminous Arc looks kinda cool, but I have an incredible backload of RPGs right now so I'm not in a hurry to pick it up.
I'm gonna be droppin' nearly 800 or so bucks on Rock Band Alone [/B].
Fix'd.I'm including the DLC in the price.

Wait...I've played Zork...and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...and I'm coding a faux text adventure...
I'm 19, and there's no way in HECK I'm part of a "parent generation."
Then again, he might be referring to when they were released...which is stupid, as people are still making text adventures. They're just a little more...artsy.

That's quite true.
I was just reacting to the insinuation that "text-based games" being a part of "our parent's generation" when there's plenty of good, new, text adventures about today. And they're free, at that.
Of course, rereading the comment sheds light on my false assumption. Which sure makes an ass outta me.

That's more of what I was going for -- obviously I enjoy text adventures, or I wouldn't be playing through PW. I played King's Quest and Wizardry when I was younger (I'm 22, for reference) and still didn't hit the original releases. Goblin Quest 3 was especially memorable.

I don't think it's storytelling in the conventional sense. I play Phoenix Wright for the experience of systematically breaking down and understanding the characters, motives, and crime scenes. It's an experience no other entertainment medium offers and few games rival.

I agree, but most reviewers aren't heaping it with praise of originality and gamers are getting the hint that it's going to be Capcom gravy train. Business as usual.
I mean, I play the games loyally and like them a lot. But I can see how it's falling out of favor with gamers a bit recently.

Been playing Rune Factory nonstop since I got it. I'm on day 7 in my first summer and have almost enough cash and wood to upgrade my house.
Holy hell, you must be a much better farmer than me. My field was destroyed by a typhoon in mid-summer and I haven't bothered to regrow anything. I'm just watering what I still have until fall, then my field will be ignored entirely. Growing in caves is much safer and more convenient.
But I'm making my real money by mining. Finding level 11 silver nuggets is getting to be commonplace, so I'm up to about 60,000 G. Only 600 pieces of wood, though. I hate how upgrading my axe to level 3 essentially did nothing but deprive me of my axe for a few days.
I love how I'm able to go about earning a living however I please, despite the farming supposedly being the "main" way to earn cash.
Kanthos

The key is knowing which things to plant. I started off with 6 fields (3 tiles x 3 tiles) of strawberry plants for the spring, and right now, have 6 fields of grazing grass and six of pineapples. When I get to the fall, I'll plant 6 or more fields of sweet potatoes.
Why those crops in particular? They all sell pretty well, and they all have a regrowth period: after you harvest, keep watering those fields. In 2 days for strawberries and sweet potatoes (not sure yet for pineapples; they have a 20-day initial growth period, but it's probably 2 days as well), the crops grow back without you having to replant.
Other than that, I've done a lot of mining, particularly in Clemens Cave, because there are some good clusters of ore to mine. The room south of the trap room with the titan gives you 18, I think, and the room with the water in it (two screens north and one screen east of the titan room) has another 11. I did a lot of fishing in the first few days; once I'd watered my crops, I fished.
At the moment, I'm basically harvesting wood, but I've cleared the first 4 caves and have about 170,000 gold and 600 wood and am working on creating super-fruit (level 10 strawberries, sweet potatoes, and pineapples) in the first 3 caves. If you don't know, you can either trade items back and forth via Wi-Fi (they level up one quality level each time they're traded; very cheap way to get tons of money if you start trading a few items up to level 100), or you can plant a field of level 1 crops and use a greenifier on one of them (producing a level 2 crop), then sell the level 1 crops and put the level 2 crop in your seedmaker to get level 2 seeds, plant, use a greenifier, repeat. I have level 3 strawberry seeds to plant once I get my sickle back and can clear a field in Carmite Cave to plant on, plus level 3 sweet potatoes and level 3 pineapples growing in Toros and Clemens caves.

Dealing with storms is easy: save before bed, reload if you get a storm :)
I'm now growing one of each crop in the caves with greenifiers, to get them all to level 10. I've got all 7 monster barns built, but no basements yet, and have the first 5 full: 4 each of monsters who produce wool, milk, eggs, honey, and 4 that water. It's about the 3rd day of fall, my house has been fully upgraded since the 24th of summer, and I'm just buying the rest of the recipe books and small house upgrades. The crafting part of the game (cooking, forging, pharmacy, and decoration) is a lot of fun too.
Who to marry? Right now, I'm thinking Rosetta, but I'm going to get through the end of the game before I bother with getting married. Too many other things keeping me busy ;)

The special edition is a bit of a joke anyway. "Here, have this really crappy amp that's basically a replacement for plugging your PC speakers or something into your DS".
I'm mildly interested in Jam Sessions but won't be spending any money on it. If they had a good mechanism for playing individual notes and allowed you to store a very large number of palettes of chords per song instead of just two, I'd be much more interested. Jazz chords, or better yet, the ability to create your own chords, would make it fantastic. (I don't know how they'd let you play individual notes, but the other two features are/were definitely doable).

Yeah, that sounds good in theory. But once they put it on DS, they'd have to do other things to convince people to buy it for $30, unless they sold it for even more like FFIII (God forbid). So then after tweaking, the result would be extra dungeons added at the end, an easier difficulty (), lag in some animations, and big cutscenes that take 10 seconds to load. Maybe some new spells and combos. Sounds great and all, but I'd rather spend 800 Wii points than $30+.
Then again, portable Chrono Trigger ... mmm tasty. More than anything, I guess I'm afraid they'd mess it up too much.

Either way you'd sacrifice a lot of sound quality, and there's two reasons that immediately gets rid of any reason I'd want a portable CT (obviously though if it were the only option then I'd get it anyway, but):
1. All the music would be muffled, tinny, and just bad sounding in general, and the music is extremely important to the mood in that game.
2. The sound for Luminaire would get screwed up! That's one of the best sounds in a video game ever.

How would the music be muffled? The DS has excellent sound quality. I use it as an MP3 player, and it sounds just perfect. If there was anything I would be worried about with a remake of any game on the DS, sound would not be it.

Hell, I'd rather buy a portable remake than a VC version - portables are the only way I got myself to actually play all the way through FF5 and 6, I just couldn't do it originally when I had the ROMs. I'd bet the same will happen with Chrono Trigger - if I could get it portable, I'd end up actually playing it all the way through.

Basically, a staple-your-nuts-to-the-wall action shooter where you had a death machine capable of two different attack forms (I believe one shot faster, the other ricocheted off walls) and an infinite-use special attack. The catch to the special? It varied in power based on how many bullets there were on screen and how close they were to hitting you. Use it with nothing on screen and a piddly two missiles pop out. Use it when there are 30 bullets less than 4 pixels from you and it unleashes a 300-volley cascade of death to clear the screen.
Couple that with the ability to fly in 8 directions while shooting independent of your movement, tons of enemies on every level, and enough zaniness to make Excel Saga look like a soap opera and you have BANGAI-O!!
Do want.

Oh God, the hypocrisy of it all. For me, I pirate what I can get. DS games are so fucking easy to pirate it's amazing.
Also, a lot of movies and music nowadays are worth the purchase on principle because a lot of them come from indy labels and have really good backstories on them. Also, if you're even remotely interested, then 'obtain' it, then that means you at least like it on some level. Then again, I pirate what I can get anyway. Thank god for flash drives for Nintendo handhelds.

I don't download many. I'd estimate about... ten movies this year? Maybe a dozen? And of those, only about three came out in theaters here. The rest where from overseas and never saw any kind of release here, even DVD. Of those three, only one I liked (28 Weeks Later, of which I bought the DVD). The other two weren't worth shit. I haven't bothered with any more Hollywood stuff since summer. I'm pretty much done with getting Hollywood movies now. I might go see something in theaters, but only if it's cheap seats or someone else is paying (like when we went to go see Resident Evil 3. The tickets were given to us).
As for music, they don't sell the stuff I want in local stores. I've gone online and looked up sites to order it. It's either "I've never heard of that,", or "we don't ship to Canada" The US, sure. But for some reason, Canada isn't a place they can ship to. How fucked up is that?
That leaves games. I can get games here. There's a wide variety and they are decently priced. I know what kinds of stuff I like, and I know that I can expect more or less what I want from them. Why shouldn't I buy the stuff that is easily obtainable and download the stuff that is fucking impossible to get at all?
How is that hypocrisy?
I-n-j-i-n
09-24-2007, 11:58 AM
I guess it makes more sense for foreign, as in Canadian, markets. Over here, there's just an overabundance of good movies and music and they're always accessible. I watch mostly non-Hollywood stuff too and forget about the music which is mostly foreign and obscure at that. For the Hollywood stuff, it is annoying to go to theaters where kids always yell "THAT IS GAYYYY~~~" all the time.
My ratio of buying them is about the same given that they are convenient to get or have some goodies attached (again, the only reason to even buy discs for me is to get the extras). With games, especially the short types that are worth a whim (typically most DS games), it's just easy to download for those I'm going to burn through and never play again. I still have like 25 DS games so that's not saying too much.
Maybe it's just me, because I have a high tolerance of media types, more so than usual. So much so that I pretty much pirate out of principle because I can't possibly buy everything I'm interested in.
Ultranoir
09-24-2007, 04:52 PM
On the subtopic of pirating, most of the stuff coming out these days isn't worth the money I pay for it unless I'm doing it with friends. That being said, don't waste your money on Resident Evil: Extinction unless you're going with friends like I did. :P
There's a ton of DS games going to be coming out. There are some Japan-only titles I want too, like Super Robot Wars W, but damn does Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword look interesting. The control scheme is enough to make me want to give it a shot. If you haven't heard anything about it:
http://kotaku.com/gaming/ds/ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword-ds-impressions-302661.php
Seems pretty fun to me. Other than that, there's nothing I'm extremely excited about yet. Maybe the new Phoenix Wright in October, and Front Mission really piques my interest, because the DS needs more giant robot fighting. The pre-Christmas releases will be nuts for a lot of people to pick up. x_x
So I lost my DS today.
With Supercard DS-ONE in Slot 1 and Supercard MiniSD in Slot 2.
I had it in my bag as I was going to work this morning, but carelessly left the bag in a store. I later recovered the bag, but the DS was gone...
I guess there's nothing I can do now but pick up the pieces... I remember a few pages back someone was selling their old DS; do they still have it?
Edit: I'll be going back to the store tomorrow morning in case some employee took it, but... well I'm not getting my hopes up.

Phantom Hourglass got a 9.0 on IGN. The review is up.
They say it's a fun game with great graphics and that it's amazing that such a huge world could fit into a DS game. Apparently it suffers in simplicity - supposed to be REALLY easy and somewhat short - and the fact that occasionally the all-stylus control fails (you roll when you don't want to, etc). The multiplayer is supposed to be fun but a bit pointless. Obviously I'm still getting it despite its faults as it looks fantastic anyway and is a sequel to Wind Waker, one of my favorite games of all time.

Yeah, that was the only really disappointing thing for me with Twilight Princess: boss battles were too easy. They were for the most part rather "cinematic" and fun boss fights (like the boss to that water temple), though, so I guess better that than really challenging but boring. Even if the bosses are too easy to beat in Phantom Hourglass, I think it'll still be well worth the price of admission.
EDIT: With 9 reviews in at this point, Phantom Hourglass has a Meta Score of 91. Not bad at all.

I would love for a Hard difficulty for the next Zelda. Something that doubled the damage taken from hits and added in new special moves for bosses - maybe mixed up their patterns with some random order. I'd really like to see the bosses get some special "one-hit-kill" moves or close to it (moves that would take out half your remaining health or bring you down to 1 heart instantly.) Every Zelda boss' room has 20 pots with small hearts anyway; Make me use those things in a mad dash to stay alive because Shadow Ganon just pinned me to the ground with a spear, then wracked my body with dark energy channeled through it as if it were a lightning rod.
Leave an Normal setting that plays like a normal Zelda game, but steal someone from Devil May Cry for input on a Hard mode.

My best friend hails Golden Sun (series) as the greatest RPG ever (better than Chrono Trigger!?). I played the series and conclude the following:
Strengths:
-Great artistry
-Clever maps, puzzles, and level design
-Deceptively deep battle system
-Good plot
Weaknesses:
-Unvaried gameplay
-Random battles get annoying
Music was hit or miss.
A good RPG, arguably excellent. It really depends on the player's tastes.

Well, I couldn't play for long, and security held us off for taking other pics, but enough to give quick impressions. AW DS 2 did receive a compelte overhaul in terms of design. Gone are Max, Andy and the others, replaced by a whole new crew. IS went with a whole new, more realistic, miltary look, and quite frankly, it seemed like a pretty wise move
Graphically-wise, the look went with the new design, though it looked pretty much the same. New combat animations were pretty low-quality though, blurry and badly animated. Surely that's gonna be fixed by the time it comes out. Had time to notice a new unit - bike infantry unit - and that pretty much sums it up. Hopefully other people went there and spent more time wih AW DS2.

I've been playing some Japanese stylus-only action/rpg games lately and I am really hoping that companies start shoving it down our throats. Seriously.
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Great. Getting great reviews. You know what you doing. A bit easy, but if this is where Nintendo goes with its "casual" focus, I approve.
I hope it comes to the U.S. That would be awesome.
Deltora Quest: Apparently it is based off an anime based off some Australian books that are popular in Japan. This game really reminds me of the Secret of Mana games, but you only use one character at a time (the other lazy asses stay at camp while you save the world, I guess), and they move as fast as the stylus. What? Yes. You can drag them around the screen or you can tap a spot and they run to it as fast as the frickin Flash. You attack by tapping and swiping at enemies. In an open area, you can pretty much run circles around enemies, unless you get poisoned, which slows you to mere mortal speed. Super speed actually becomes a detriment when you're on top of thousand foot tall trees, though, as you'll fall to your doom dramatically (lose some health) quite easily. The top screen shows a portrait of your character and in front of them there is some tadpole/squirrel hybrid creature running along an oscillating wave and when it gets to the crest of a wave you can hear the character breathe in and then exhale as the abomination runs down the wave. I guess there's some rhythm to the combat or something. There was this one part where the game had me draw something, and I didn't know what it was for, exactly, so I drew a chick with a scythe and wrote "death" on the bottom, and a bit later in the story (many years actually; the damn paper was floating in midair in one spot for YEARS and fell at just the right time) another character found it and broke down and cried. Hilarious. And if you're still reading this, I bet you're like, WTFN? :<
I hope it comes to the U.S.
Summon Night Twin Edge: Seireitachi no Jutsu! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYWTXP-mfj8) Uh, I mean Seireitachi no Kyoumei. Basic overhead dungeon crawling action that reminds me of an RTS but there's only two characters and using melee character sucks because you just stand there and trade blows. But the ranged character is fun because you can shoot enemies and when they come after you, you can run away and they're all like "Gonna get you, Blood! Gonna get you Blood!" and you're like "Can't catch me Crip! Can't catch me Crip!" And you can take pot shots while the melee dude shanks them with a massive sword of spunky anime hero +1. I find it more fun than the GBA Summon Night games due to the lack of random battles.
May your enemies experience a slow painful death and their brood experience the same at the hands of your progeny.
Peace.
I'm out this piece.

Hell yes! Ouendan 1, 2, and EBA are my favorite DS games at the moment. I beat all the songs in Ouendan 1, have a couple songs to go in Ouendan 2, and beat absolutely everything in EBA, achieving the highest possible rank of Lovin' Machine with a cumulative score of 081,459,588. The same team made EBA after so many people imported the original Ouendan. Instead of just doing general localization, they took it further and stylized the thing to better suit the new intended audience. Hence some of the scenarios are a bit similar. And yes, awesomeness abounds.

A lot of people own both. Like I do.

It seems high, but then you see that the DS has sold more than twice the amount of the PSP. Then it doesn't seem like that high of a number anymore :P

(possible) Pokemon G/S remake
There's nothing substantiating that there is one. And don't get started on that screenshot with Johto in it. That still hasn't been entirely proven.
Back on topic... Toys R Us is supposed to have a deal where if you buy Phantom Hourglass, they will also give you the guide book for free. Now, I like free stuff, and I do like guidebooks (more for nostalgia than for help... that's what gamefaqs is for). But I have no idea if this deal is going on in Canada as well. Anyone know one way or the other?

Sorry, I'm of no help here. Didn't even hear about the deal till you mentioned it.
So very excited to play Phantom Hourglass tomorrow (unless for some strange reason the EB Games I ordered it at breaks street date), but I just realized that tomorrow Chibi Robo for DS ships. I never played the Gamecube one (though I've been pretty interested in trying it out), and seeing the DS version tempts me. Dammit, too many games, not enough time.

Any Pokemon players wanna help me do something wacky? I'm going to be playing a few games with friends tomorrow, and if anyone has capabilities to clone/gameshark some insane unfair legendary and wants to give it to me for free that would be awesome.

Not really. I fully expected the PSP to not even sell for 10 million. That seemed like a huge stretch but apparently I was wrong. It just seems the market is able to support more than one handhelds nowadays.
PS- It's really amazing how much time I'm spending on Brain Training 2. BEST GAME EVUR

--Not that it really matters, since I'm still working on the 2nd game. Had to start over again after I lost my DS and flashcard last week. :|
Edit: And yeah supremespleen, Halo DS looked pretty cool. Maybe someday the demo will be leaked...

Interesting, I never knew about Halo DS until these videos. But from what I hear, the graphics (on the lower screen) and gun animations and all that are identical to the goldeneye rogue agent stuff. Which wasn't so great on ds. In fact, didn't EA make that game? So what's the connection here?

Absolutely -- I can't get enough of it right now. Glad to see that Nintendo still has the charm...

So I managed to get in about 30-45 min last night on Phantom Hourglass, and is it just me or are the controls really unresponsive when it comes to rolling? Anyone have any tips they find help when trying to perform a roll?
That's pretty much the only negative thing I have to say about the game thus far, and I can't wait to get more time in on the game this weekend.

hold your stylus near the edge of the screen and draw little circles. This should make it work better.

Any one got any idea on length? Ten, twenty hours? More, less? I know that it just came out (in North America, that is), but play length is an important aspect for deciding what games I get.

From what I hear, it's like 15-20 (longer if you do all the sidequest stuff), but I'll be seeing in the next week or two first hand the length of the game. I'm sure there'll be people on here that'll beating well before me, and I think it was Kak that already played through the Japanese version so he'd be the man to answer this question properly.

Maybe I just need to play with it more, but I haven't had much luck with that thus far. Maybe I'm not holding it for long enough before I begin trying to draw small circles or something.

I can't roll if my life depended on it. I also do that drawing circles at the very edge and it hardly helps any.
Anyway, I have gotten a good hour and 45 minutes into the game. So far I'm really liking it. The whole making notes on the map feature is very useful. This game actually feels much different from other Zelda games but in a good way. I'm glad Gamespot didn't contradict themselves for once and actually gave this game a good score for its innovative new features and fresh feel.
Good experience so far.

Speaking of Pokemon does anyone still play Diamond and Pearl. I got like three of those Movie Darkrais left but nobody wants them. Why is it so hard to believe that someone lives in Japan?

I figured out why PH was so unique, and its not the control. The same game would be pretty much feasible using other controls. However what this game changed was the general idea.
Its more of a puzzle game with action elements than an action game with puzzles.

Yeah, they said 70+ hours on IGN for TP too, and my first playthrough took 40, 25 on my second (getting everything but poe souls on both). I'm figuring it'll probably be less than 15 hours on PH for most of us.

One site has ROM #1342 as "New Touch Game Party (Europe)(Independent)" and my other has it as "Gyakuten Saiban 3 (J)". :?

Got to play just a bit more PH last night...
-Got the hourglass and went through Temple of the Ocean King with it, and found it to be really enjoyable. I also really enjoy using the shoulder button as a quick-key for using the selected item, though I didn't figure that out till after I was done with...whatever fire temple (on Ember Island or whatnot). Having that as an option really takes the "clunk" out of using the boomerang, hence is more enjoyable. Starting to figure out the rolls...slowly. I can get it to work about 1/2 the time now.-
