Sorry, double-post.
I just realized today that Contact is being released today! So far, critic-wise, it's not doing too well (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/contact), in fact Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (also released today) is doing better as of right now (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/dragonquestheroesrocketslime). As fun as Rocket Slime sounded, I had kinda assumed Contact would have done better critically. Oh well, I'm still excited for it and once I start having time for my DS again I'm probably gonna get it.

OK, so I was checking up on Serebii.net, and they have posted a new screenshot of the in-game map. You can point your mouse arrow to a city (the grey areas) and get the name.
Now, if you have it, open up Google Earth.
Go to Hokkaido, and rotate the map so that North is slightly to the right. Fine tune the zoom so that you can see the entire island by itself.
OK, now compare the shape of Hokkaido to Shinou. See any similarity? It's even more than that. Compare the locations of Trust Lake to Toya-Ko, and Kotobuki City to Sapporo. Repeat with any other in-game town to real-life cities.
Neat, huh? You can also do the same with Hoenn from RSE, Kanto and Johto to Kyūshū (just a mirrored image), the realworld Kanto and Chūbu (slightly distorted), respectively. And the Sevii Islands from the Red/Green GBA remakes correspond to Okinawa (slightly rearranged). They do this even with historical and geographical points of interest.
Sort of old news, but I just thought I would mention it to anyone that might be interested. Most people never noticed the connection before.
Also, Wikipedia has removed the Janurary 3rd, 2007 release date for North America. Finally. So we're back to haveing no date at all, but because we're all reading this, having no dates shouldn't be that big a surprise.

A new set of videos (http://www.pokewiki.de/Pok%C3%A9mon_Diamond_und_Pearl/Videos) for Diamond/Pearl has been put out. Check the second one under September 2006, at about 2/3s, and you can see a new level with an elevator... and floors you can see down to. This time, you get to see what's going on below you. It's probably just one special area, but it's nice to see such a big change in the series' graphics and mechanics.

I didn't get it, but while I was working my boss opened one and started playing it. It seemed very kiddish and silly, but he said that all in all it was pretty cool. That's all I can do to help you, though, as I needed to buy Okami and didn't have any spare cash.

Personally, I liked it. It has quite a bit of replay value too.
On another note, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were given scores of 9, 9, 8, 9 by Famitsu reviewers.

Which puts it rather high on their list, considerng most "good" games get 33 and lower. I tried looking it up, but there's surprisingly little info on how the score system works (what's considered the cut-of points for ranks like "gold" or "perfect", and that's even if they have such a thing).
I would like to see the full list for this latest reviews, as well as the previous versions, just to compare how it did.

Shit, the Wii thread is falling apart. I'm hiding here until it collapses or mods start cleaning it out. I doubt either one will happen, but still...
For Pokemon fans: I'm going to a US Toys 'R Us store to get some Mews from that special promotion. I should have four of them when I'm done. Once Diamond/Pearl come out in North America, I'm not going to need all four of them, so I'll set up a sort of "who wants a legit Mew" giveaway. If you don't want to cheat or use funky glitches, this is your chance to get it air and square. And since there are version-only poks, as well as ones that have to be transferred from the GBA games, we should set up a trading list in the OCR DS Wifi thread. Or a seperate one. Whatever.
Also, I watched a video for Cooking Mama. I have to buy Cooking Mama now.

Why don't we get games like this over here? I mean, with all the anime they dump on TV and release on DVD nowadays, why not just bring the game over? Most of those shows are localized and distrbuted anyways. It's just more money for them to make.

Hoshit! Houshin Engi is on there!
The fact that I recognize the vast majority of the characters on there means one of two things:
1) I watch WAY too much fuggin' anime.
AND/OR
2) They need to bring that game to the States.

It's often copyright issues. Meaning, a company in Japan might own tons of franchises, but when those come to the states, they're spread out to different publishers. So, in the states, it requires more legal stuff because more companies are involved than only 1 or 2. At least, I think that's the issue with some of these games. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me. Mouser X out.

Actually, that makes absolute sense. Anime that is brought stateside is copyrighted to a bajillion companies.
Of course, we do get many anime games(One Piece was supposed to be a good one, I think). I think these compilation games in particular would be a bitch to move over, especially since many characters in those games might not have corresponding anime/manga here. As an example, Houshin Engi has an english anime counterpart(Soul Hunter) but as far as I know, there is no translated manga to go with it. And in the cover of that game, most(all?) of those characters are their manga versions.

From what I recall hearing, it was this problem (at least, in part) that stopped NAMCOxCAPCOM from coming stateside. That game looks great, and the music is really good as well. I've fantisized about importing it, but I can't understand Japanese at all. Of course, since I don't even own a PS2, that poses another problem.
Anyway, I'm just pointing out that copyright issues have stopped some great games from coming here. At least, from what I've heard. Sometimes I wish there was a way to circumvent that problem... Emulation, perhaps... Maybe in a few years. Mouser X out.

Only five days to go.in metroid you could only talk in the lobby before and after a game. it worked pretty good, but it would have been a whole lot cooler if there was in game chat. i can understand why they didn't though, the amount of lag in the game was already high without the microphone.

has anyone played pokemon mystery dungeon?
I got it recently (the blue one for DS), and it's a pretty good game so far. Just imagine nethack with multiple dungeons instead of 1 and pokemon rules instead of the AD&D rules, and more of a story then "get to the end of this dungeon for a powerfull artifact". If you've never played nethack, you move a character around on a square grid, for every action you take any enemies on that floor also move or attack. In mystery dungeon you can also attack and move at diagnols. (Which can't be done in nethack if I remember correctly).
Fighting involves either a generic attack, throwing stuff, or doing pokemon attacks. You can also link pokemon moves so you can do two in one turn, so you could link tail whip and tackle together and do them both in one turn, instead of doing tail whip one turn then tackle the next. A max of 3 partners can be brought into the dungeon, but it'll probably be a while before you have more than just two. You also have some control over their "AI" which can be increased by giveing them gummies. (Sometimes gummies will increase their base stats too, if its a gummy color they like).
The graphics are pretty cute, most of the music is very short, less that a minute, but its catchy enough.
Control wise if you get the ds version it's easier to play with the buttons rather than the stylus.
And uh...the story is interesting, proceeds a bit slowly. I've gotten just over 8 hours into the game so far and only 2-ish major events for the story have happened.
I'm rather enjoying the game, although I'm unsure if obssesive levels of play are as good as just playing in small spurts of 30min-two hours. It IS a dungeon crawl game by nature, and would probably get a bit monotonouse if you play too long.
That said, I do get urges to play it when I'm doing other things, much like when I am reading a good book, but can't read it at the moment. I haven't genuinely felt that way about a game in quite a while. So it's a good game in my book. I was very scheptical about it at first, but it seems to have been worth it to buy.
Edit: Oh yeah, and if you find you are stuck in a dungeon that is too tough to survive and you don't have an escape orb. You can chose to "give up" and send a help mail to a friend. They can then go into the dungeon and rescue you. The thing about the dungeons is that once you go into them you cant get out unless you finish a mission or get to the last floor. If you faint you lose half of your items and all of your money (always keep some money in the bank). So the "friend help" option can potentualy be very helpfull.
This works for both versions, but I don't actualy know how it works. I think it uses passwords or something like that.

So I did some investigating. A while back someone had a problem with plastic being loose by the GBA slot right? And as did I. Well, my black DS Lite has the same problem. Well, it's not a problem because every DS Lite is like that.
At work I work in the back, and I send off returns back to the vendor. There were 2 white DS Lites(one was nasty, ick, the kid probably never washed his hands). I checked the plastic above the GBA slot and the plastic was able to be pulled back on both.
I think I saw some site listing this as a defect when it's just supposed to be like that.

I know my post is gonna be a little off topic, but I figured it's better than starting a whole new thread for it. I've been playing a lot of Mega Man ZX recently, but I've run into a problem, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them in ZX or in any other game. My DS tends to shut off after a while of playing. Not long enough for me to get to any other transervers (aside from teleporting) or to any major areas.
I thought at first I might have accidentally hit the power button while I'm pressing all sorts of button combinations. Things like climbing walls, shooting, using the saber, dashing, etc. mostly all at the same time. But it keeps happening and in roughly the same spot every time. I'm pretty sure I'm not hitting the power off. This hasn't happened to me before, and I tried some other games to see if it was the cart or the DS itself, but no other game I own has the frantic button pressing that ZX does.
So basically, I would like to know if anyone's ever heard of, or experienced anything like this with either MM ZX, or a DS Lite. Thanks in advance, and sorry for sort of derailing the thread.

The DS Lite is built to be hard to turn off. I've actually failed to turn it off before when I was done with it.
So it is likely not you turning it off. Have you tried playing while it was plugged into the charger? Does it get hot? Any error messages, white screens, etc? Have you tried Nintendo's website or customer support?
Binjovi
09-24-2006, 10:02 PM
I've failed to turn mine off as well, so I was pretty skeptical it was that to begin with, but it was the first thing that popped into my head.
Actually... yeah, it was plugged into the charger. I then unplugged it thinking it might have had something to do with it. Even if it was overheating, I let it sit for several hours, and it continued to happen. Also, I've played a few other games on it after it happened, with no problems at all. No error messages or anything of that nature; nothing visibly wrong with it. I wonder if I'm pressing the buttons too hard...
I'll definately contact Nintendo if the problem persists.

It's not a move, it's an Ability (http://www.serebii.net/games/ability.shtml), something that all pokemon have. In battle they add certain effects. Own Tempo means that confusion-inducing moves (like Confuse Ray or Supersonic) won't work on the pokemon that has that ability.

So far, it's pretty good. I don't know if I like the manual jumping you have to pull off at times. It's actually a lot of fun, but it can be difficult to pull off when you're keeping track of lots of minis. Hopefully it gets easier with practice.
The one thing I really like are the FMVs. Bravo to NST (MP:Hunters makers) for not being overly kiddy and stupid with them (like we've seen in the past with Camelot).

So, as is the way of highly anticipated games, a few people have gotten their copies of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl a few days early (or they just managed to get a ROM... either way) and a lot of new info has been released.
First, a (shakey) video (http://visionmovie.ameba.jp/mcb.swf?id=FCs52pA7/x:bZhgVY:ib:gKzdE2oJAcq0YAhdTU2mIIWG:RNgbbj:z8:3qI e0.iQaff/CimSaii) of the opening animation from Diamond (or Pearl, I don't read Japanese). To prove that they are using a basic 3D engine for the overworld, they use different camera angles when flying over the region.
Next, Serebii.net (www.serebii.net) has info on new pokes including some pre-evos and some second forms of the starters.
And the most important thing of all... they got rid of Flash as an HM. No more will we have to waste a move slot on a pokemon, or even drag one around souly because it was the one you gave Flash to, just so we can get through a fucking cave. It's gone from our teams, and there's no sign of it anywhere!
Of course, the move itself still exists, since pokes from the GBA games have it, and you can transfer them over. So it can still be used in battle, but not outside of battle. I hope they solve the potential issue of dark caves by giving you a flashlight or something.

From what little I tried with the "good" emulator, you use the arrow keys. But the thing was buggy as hell, and only a few of the ROMs actually loaded. I think DS emulation is still a long ways off.
And no, I don't have an emulator or any ROMs, nor will I tell anyone, on here or via Private Messages, where to get either. Just buy the damn games, alright?

Oh, interesting tidbit. On a thread at Serebii, they are updating almost every ten minutes as they play through, and one thing caught my eye.
Hyouta has the following Pokémon:
Level 12 Geodude
Level 12 Onix
Level 14 Zugaidosu
He gives you TM76 which holds a Rock Type version of Spikes
I think that might be a typo. But since you can transfer pokes over, and they can hold items, you can obviously transfer items, like TMs. I think that instead of changing the old TM into the new one, they just decided to keep the old ones and add fifty new ones. That means you would have a set of 100 attacks you can teach your pokemon! 100 attacks to use whenever you want!
Is there a solid release date for the US?
Does Spring 2007 sound solid enough for you?
EDIT: Damn it. Flash is a TM now. But it also confirms the 100 TMs theory. Flash is now TM 70. But I'm still hoping that they give you a flashlight or something, because I'm not looking forward to having to waste a slot on a poke jsut to stumble around some fucking cave over and over...

If you can catch a Ditto, you can use it to breed with almost any pokemon. That was the case in gold/silver/crystal. Most of my egg-raised pokemon in my gold version came from a single Ditto. (lol what a slut)

So far, the breeding system seems to be intact from RSE. So that means that yes, you can pimp your Ditto with just about anything. As for catching both genders, there isn't really a point unless you plan to breed for certain moves, IVs or Natures. If you want a certain pokemon, you can use different male and female pokes, as long as they are compatible. The offspring will be the lowest form of the female, but will inheret TMs and special moves from the male.
Beats me...but, can you also breed like a male and female Raichu to get anything?
You will get a Pichu, which is a baby Pikachu. Anyone that played Smash Bros should recognise it.

Beats me...but, can you also breed like a male and female Raichu to get anything?
When breeding, the resulting pokemon is of the youngest evolutionary form of the mother. In this case, you'd get a Pichu and nothing else. This is why Ditto is so useful. The resulting pokemon will be the earliest form of the Ditto's mate, regardless of gender. Breed it with an Electabuzz to get an Elekid, etc. There are exceptions though. For example, you can't breed two Dittos to hatch another Ditto, and the same is true for legendary pokemon.
Edit: jack'd (sorta); I take too long to type. :/

No, they do not. There are a few exceptions, though. Check here (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/). Find the poke you want from the top, and then look under "Egg Groups". You will see a drop-down list of pokemon that are compatible.
Also, pokemon hatched from eggs now come out at level 1, instead of the usual level 5. This removes the old question of "why are hatched pokemon at level 5, but I can fight a wild level 2 Pidgey?"
And fucks loads of new info is coming out on DP. Just hit Serebii.net as usual.
EDIT: Oh, and PokeGarden (that cool flash site that is designed to look and act like the GBA games) has updated and unvieled a new feature: a modest statue of the three new starters. Not exactly big news since the ROM was leaked a few days ago, but it's still nice to see that the site is updating.

I hope in Diamond/Pearl they adopt the way they did when learning a new move. When you learn a new move, it'll tell you what it does in a description so you know whether or not to ditch it or learn it. Did they do this in Ruby/Saph? I don't remember.

Find gummies and give them to your pokemon it'll increase their IQ and sometimes they learn a new IQ ability, thers abilities that can check for status effects or ammount of PP (actualy I'm sure you already have PP checker or its one of the first abilities you'll get from a gummy).

Yeah, what little info that has been revealed is that to any battling or underground games, you need to use Friend Codes. I guess no one at Nintendo ever thought of not using them for some games, or even parts of one.
At least trading is sort of easier. You put a pokemon up for trade, and mention what other pokemon you want for it. It sits there on the network, so you don't have to keep your game active. Once the other person agrees to the trade, your pokemon are held off-line until you each check up on the status of the trade. You don't even have to do anything this way.
Of course, doing the trade in real-time is far better, since you can check stats and movesets and actually talk to the person now. But it's still a nice option.

Getting it to recognize my voice - especially "blue" and distinguishing between "six" and "seven" - was a bitch for me. But if I hold it a foot or so away from me, it works like a charm.
I think Nintendo designed the DS thinking that people would play like that, and not have their face right up against the DS like many do.

Well I just got my shiny new Onyx DS Lite :D
Overall I'm pretty pleased with it, but aside from the GBA cards which jut out a little too much for m tastes there are two other things that I'm displeased with. For starters, the speakers are definitively a letdown compared to the Fat's, they just aren't as loud and don't have the same surround sound effect as the former's. good earbuds/phones are definitively a must for the Lite.
My last gripe is with the screen brightness settings, a great feature to be sure and much needed, but I don't know why they decided to make the first brightness setting less bright than the normal DS, while the second one is more bright. This might just be me, but it makes some games look too dim, yet if you change it to the second it's almost too bright. IT would have been nice for the screen brightness controls to be on the case rather than the startup menu as well.
Nitpicking aside, it's really a great redesign, apart from some strange design decisions.

When you inflate you have to stop a moment then start blowing again (unless you already blew them all up). But yeah, just keep blowing a nice consistent stream of air over the mic and it should work. (The flute example someone else gave is a very good one actualy)

So how does the game play and are you still having that problem? I'm considering buying MMZX but if there's some critical glitch, I'll pass.
Sorry, I just now noticed this. Yes, the game keeps messing up, but now I'm almost 100% POSITIVE it's just my copy of the game. I should have known something bad was up when my DS wouldn't read the cart the first time I plugged it in. I could only find the game at a Game Stop too, and I'm not sure about their return policy (if it exists), so I dunno.

I actually had to return a game and my DS lite a week ago. If your shit is defective, they should replace it for the same item within a resonable timeframe, though I don't recall what the time frame is for that. Hopefully you haven't had it for too long if you opt to replace it. But yeah, thanks for the info.
I got a rental copy of ZX from Gamerang, and I also had a weird problem with the DS not reading the cart a couple times. Haven't had any random shutdowns though...yet. :P

My copy of Meteos does that. It's either a hardware glitch, or the metal connectors from cart to system aren't touching.

My friend's DS did that for a while with a couple games. I haven't really had trouble with it. It's a somewhat rare occurrance anyway.
And yes, I too have had problems inflating balloons in Mario Kart DS using the mic. My friend's Brain Training seemed to work fine though - it recognized my voice saying all of the colors except for - I think it was blue. No matter what angle I try to blow at, I can go until I'm blue in the face, and the balloon will never get more than halfway there. I have found that sometimes, just saying "oooooooooh" in a low voice will work perfectly though. Sometimes.

Returned from the US, and I have Mews. A lot of Mews.
When the US version of Diamond/Pearl come out here, I plan to give away totally legit Mews to members here. They are all level 10, with the Original Trainer name and number of MYSTRY and 06930. If you want one, I'll be happy to arrange a trade at such time whenever the hell Nintendo localises the game and sells it.
Ann way... the whole event was a little tiring. The line-up went from about fifteen people at noon to over a hundred by 2PM. The line-up went around the corner and out the entrance. They actually grabbed a person they knew out of the line and made him help by using his GBA to trade.
The way is worked was that Nintendo sent them two Emerald version cartridges, each one filled to capacity with Mews. Every space in every box, even the active roster. They had over 800 to trade, and they were down to about 400 or so when they decided to stop. It turned out that they went past the dealine by about an hour due to the size of the line-up.
I would have had one more Mew, but some poor kid got stuck at the end of the line and his parents were trying to pull him away. I traded the one I just got withhim, and he went home early with his own Mew, and I went back in line. I guess the guy at the counter saw this, and decided to just let me take as many as I wanted. Nice. Goes to show that doing nice things sometimes gets you good stuff. Or in my case, a few dozen.

I went to the event too.
After sitting in line for like half an hour, I got impatient and then just asked some kid that just got Mew if he would trade it to me so I could clone it and give it back to him. He agreed, and I finally had Mew in my possesion. But, why stop there? I had cloned the Mew several times, and there were a bunch more Legendaries I needed, so I figured some of these people waiting in line would be bound have some. So I ended up getting Mew, Celebi, Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Jirachi, Latios, Latias, as well as 15 bucks. (some impatient people just payed me money to trade them the Mew)
Very worthwhile trip to Toys r' Us.

How many Mews do you have The Damned? I would like one too.Or in my case, a few dozen.
Minus the one I want (the "best" of the lot, statwise), then about ten for local players I know... about a dozen. I'll just have to write everyone's name down.
Even if you don't get one from me, like Klowd said, there will be people cloning the fuck out of them. You can get one that way.
Also, I managed to pick up a Deoxys. It seems sort of legit... but it's odd. It's level 50, but it has no EVs at all. And it has IVs of 31 in everything, except Special attack, which is 17. Strange. If it was cheated, why bother with the lower Special Attack stat? And why the 20 levels with no EVs? What, he just used up a lot of Rare Candies? I'll keep it, just to have one, but I don't think I'll use it for anything.
And don't forget, the Park you use in DP to get your GBA pokemon is straightforward and idiot-proof. You just trn on your DS, pick the option to transfer pokemon, and play DP as normal. Once you get into the Park, you just walk around until you find them. You can't run away, it's not a battle, and the balls they give you have a 100% capture rate, so you can't possibly not catch them. The only difficult part is finding them.
And for those wondering, your GBA pokes comes across completely intact. Same stats, name, attacks, held item, Trainer ID and Number... everything. But you can't transfer them back to the GBA. The slot on your DS is read-only, so once you transfer, that's it; they are on your DS game, period.

FF6 was one of the first games I played when I ventured into the SNES RPG world (I never actually owned a system of any kind until I recieved a Gameboy around 1994-ish), and I loved it. I still have a fondness for it. But surprisingly enough, I actually felt interested in a 3D remake of it, ala FF3, for the DS. In fact, The more I ponder it, the more I seem to like the idea.
I'll have to play FF3 DS first to use as a gauge, but I think I will enjoy it (having never played the original 3 at all).
Damn it, November is going to be a very expensive month for games. Good thing I saved up, huh?

Yeah, it seems that The Damned thought it was a remake of a game that was released in the US.
It's not. It's a remake of a game that WASN'T released in the US.
The remake looks awesome sweet and I want it. Nintendo Power had a bunch of stuff on it and it looks really, really good. Also, it topped the charts in Japan for at least one week(that was actually the week that every spot in the top 10 was taken by Nintendo).

I own this and love it. Don't be too hard on the insides of the case though, those little dividers can pull apart from enough of a beating.
Keep in mind I don't carry my DS to many places. I chiefly use this case to store my DS+games in an easy and relatively small place in my room, and to bring it with me when I'm doing major galavanting (http://www.magfest.org/). The little game cases are great for DS games, though. They each hold four games a piece and are small enough to fit in your pocket along with the DS. :)

You know, the DS cases are almost perfectly sized to hold game cards. See for yourelf. Grab a DS case, and open it ip. Take all the stuff out. Now, slide a card underneath the little tabs on the left side of the left half. Place a few more to the right and a few down the side. It fits nine cards. If you could move the plastic ridge on the left over a bit (or even get rid of it altogether), you could fit nine in with enough room to be able to take them out.
Repeat for the other side. That's eighteen games in one flat, durable container. If there was a case that did this, or even a decent mod, I'll use it. I expect my DS collection to grow enough in the next while to need something like that.

In an unrelated note, I got Megaman ZX a few days ago. I beat the game on Easy setting and now I'm doing Normal mode; awesome game with awesome music. Also, I've picked up Clubhouse Games and it's a heck of a lot of fun. Can't wait to try out the multiplayer sometime.

Wednesday!
What: A wacked out adventure game where the player controls a little girl who solves various mysteries.
How: Plays like a point and click adventure game, similar to Trace Memory in that it uses touch screen control
It's a great, humorous game if you like PnC adventures, and Atlus has included their usual high-quality localization for everything. If you want to laugh, and liked Trace Memory, this game is for you.
How is Trace Memory anyway? I meant to buy that a long time ago, but I never got the chance to.

It's really good, but extremely short and the mouth movements in the game are just creepy.
Of course, you can probably get it for like 10 bucks somewhere these days...

As it stands now, I plan on skipping on purchasing the Wii this year so that I can purchase more DS games that I want coming up.
My list of most wanted DS games includes:
1) Magical Starsign
2) FFIII
3) Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
4) Diddy Kong Racing
5) DS Air
6) Elite Beat Agents
I'd like to maybe snag some older games off ebay too like WarioWare Touched and possibly Nanostray.

I think it's safe for both. Nintendo made it so that getting online would be as easy and direct as possible.

The one time I tried this, I couldn't get it to work.
However, that's the method the official USB stick works, so it might just require compatible hardware(And possibly specific settings)

Sooo... the hardware sales for North America are in. Anyone remember a little blurb from Sony about how the PSP was selling at an even level with the DS? I have to assume they meant world-wide or something, because we all know the Japan numbers, and now we know the NA numbers. That, or it was the usual Sony bullshit.
1. NDS - 403,435
2. PS2 - 306,517
3. 360 - 259,458
4. GBA - 177,145
5. PSP - 153,353
6. NGC - 42,286
7. XBX - 6,495
Wow. They sold more GBAs than PSPs.

The PSP isn't a failure. It's done pretty good. It just hasn't done as good as the DS, which is the opposite of what Sony has said several times this year.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I didn't mean to imply that it was so bad they'd stop making it, just that the numbers are low, so it is highly unlikely what they said is the truth, even applying it to the world as a whole.

I figured messing around with the time/date in the GC Animal Crossing would cause it to glitch because it keeps track of the days played. Since Wild World doesn't do that, you can time travel and the only damage done would be weeds, cockroaches and angry neighbors.

KakTheInfected

I don't think it has anything to do with it changing from Japanese to American music, it's just that most of these songs simply suck. They're targeted towards 15 year old girls instead of the people that will actually be playing the game.
Bahamut
10-17-2006, 02:35 PM
Hm, now I'm curious about the original Japanese game. I might just import that from what I'm reading of some of the songs in that one.
It seems like a lot of people get it just for the L'arc song and I don't understand why. It's not even one of their good ones. :(
Anyway, people see Avril Lavigne and Good Charlotte and automatically assume the rest is tweenie trash, but they don't notice it also has great bands like Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Queen, Davie Bowie, Jackson Five, Earth Wind and Fire, friggin' JAMIROQUAI, etc.
This is gonna be awesome. But hey if you wanna deprive yourself so you can be a snob, that's all well and good with me.
Bahamut
10-17-2006, 02:47 PM
I don't like the Rolling Stones or Bowie either. However, the original Japanese game has some artists I do like some stuff of like Nightwish, Stratovarius, and Epica, so it'd be more towards my preference.

I won't be depriving myself because I'm a snob, I'll be doing it because I shouldn't have to play a video game and see the name "Ashlee Simpson" pop up...ever.

We'll, it was mentioned in a comment in that GAF article. Looking on Wikipedia though, looks like that's wrong. Can't say I know much about the Japanese songs. I hadn't even heard of the game until this raging discussion came up here actually  . I guess I will probably pick up the U. And my very queer yet private side kinda likes Avril Lavigne.
OCR suffers from music elitism. As soon as something seems to target a different crowd, people here roll their eyes.
Take Linkin Park. I would not buy a CD, but still, I don't hate their music. Heck, some I like to hear on the radio because it changes from hearing the same pop songs over and over. However saying that would brand me as an emo goth wannabe loser.
Crabsmasher

@Bigfoot: you can put pitfall seeds in the ground and when people walk over it they will get stuck in the hole. then they have to press a(or something) repeatedly to get out.

Back to EBA bitching...you guys can defend the song list all you want, but when roughly half the songs in the game are garbage to the people that are likely to buy it, there is a reason to be a bit miffed.
