You can also plant money trees too.

I did that, but I guess mine was a dud. I shook it when it grew fully and nothing came out.

The chances are low, so you'd have to plant a lot.

Can't you use the golden shovel to plant always profitable money trees? :?

The golden shovel is the only way to get money trees...but the percentage is low - I've planted like 11, and after 4 days (for the first 4 I did), none of the 4 gave me bags o 30,000 coins :( .

I read this conversation out of context and half awake. Then I realized you guys were serious.

I got my DS Lite about two months ago, and I must say that I have never bought so many games for a system in such a short amount of time. I just picked up Phoenix Wright today, but I haven't put much time into it yet (although I am playing it right now).

Anyway, these are the other games I own--

Metroid Prime Pinball
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team
Clubhouse Games
Feel the Magic XY/XX
Contact
Trauma Center: Under the Knife

What else would you say is worth getting?

Yeah, money trees are an unreliable means of making money. The stalk market is the fastest way to make money without cheating. unless you exploit the turnip glitch by leaving them on a table so they stay fresh for as long as you want.

The interest trick is the fastest known means of making money through cheating, resulting in 100,000 bells every 2 or 3 minutes. Here's how it works:
1.) Have at least 100,000 bells in your account and save.
2.) After booting up your DS, go to settings and change the date to Jan. 1, 2000.
3.) Start the game, check your mail (if any), and then save.
4.) Change the date to Jan. 1, 2011.
5.) Start the game and check your mail. You'll get a letter from town Hall saying that they added 99,999 bells into your account, or close to that amount. You will also get 10,000 more bells from your mom. Afterwards, save and quit.
6.) Repeat as many times as you like, jumping ahead 11 more years each time. As you get more money into your account, you can skip ahead fewer years while getting the same effect.
Don't use this trick unless you don't mind weeds, neighbors moving away, or the inability to use your catalog, but all of these things can be fixed.
What else would you say is worth getting?
Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, Meteos (the original, not the Disney remake), Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Tetris DS, Megaman ZX; this is just to name a few worth getting.

Oh, and Animal Crossing: Wild World.

I've actually heard good things about the Disney version of Meteos - the extra movements allow for an entirely new strategy.

I read about it in my NP magazine today. It looks awesome and I'm definitely going to pick it up.

As for the songs - they are all covers. As long as the cover band is good, doing this can improve a lot of the songs and adds a nice, uniform feeling to the game.

Oh yeah, they also said that songs were picked to match the stories - something I actually didn't expect. So they didn't just pull a bunch of random pop songs out of a hat.

Ouendan was all cover bands (except for one song), and the songs in that game all sounded as good or even better (the original One Night Carnival is AWFUL) than the originals.

But like others have said: CoM's NOT like SoM. So, that's the FYI so people should STFU about INBLTOMG and JFEI and kblrtflgzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Oh, that's just a recycled level from Monkey Ball 2. When the wheel spins, the opening always stops in the two same places. I just wait and then use the + pad to roll the monkey in. Here's a crude chart of the ground around the spinny wheel:

I have a question about Deep Labyrinth. What are your people's opinion on it? I bought it (used) about a week ago, and I'm trying to decide if I should keep it. So far, I think it's pretty good. Though, it is a little repetitive, and the campaign/mission (of the 2) I'm playing is definitely too easy... While I appreciate the prominent save spots (I only have time to play for short bits. 10-15 minutes at a time), being able to fully heal yourself from almost anywhere removes much of the challenge. I've played for 2+ hours on it. It's certainly not your standard RPG, but it is an interesting variation.

Anyway, to sum it up, I'm wondering on people's opinions here, and if it's worth my $20 to keep it (personally, so far, I think it is, but I'm wondering what the future of this game holds in store. If the rest of the game is basically identical to my first 2 hours, is it still worth it?). Or, is there something on a similar vein that's better and more worth my money?

Another question I have is, game recommendations for games that are heavily based in exploration (I think this may be why Deep Laby interests me). I could probably be quite happy in a game with no plot whatsoever, as long as the world was big enough that I could just keep walking around, and find new things to look for (scenery, plants, places, things, animals, whatever).

So, any help on that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for anything anyone has to offer. Mouser X over.

Bought Deep Labyrinth the day it came out. Loved it; spent close to 20 hours playing both scnearios. While it never gets hard, per se, it will get a bit more difficult the further you play. And Chapter 2 is harder than Chapter 1 (I've actually died in Ch. 2).

Remember you're only 2 hours in. The mazes get way more complex as you play (the very last area of Chapter 1 actually took a long time to get through totally, several hours if I recall correctly).

But yeah, it's an easy game, on the whole.

This happened way too often at the Best Buy I worked at as well. I'm pretty sure the managers are(or were) running the warehouse guys all the hell around the store doing something other than what they were supposed to, but we've often gotten receiving(for Geek Squad) in the afternoon.

Then there was that one time we got a Tennessee's shipments(and they got ours). It took about a week to get it back - the store is only a few hours from ours.

Yeah, I like Deep Labyrinth. While I haven't beat it yet, the game is fun. It's also fun to just laugh at the retarded girl you talk to in the second story. She's kinda weird...

Is she ACTUALLY a tard? It'd be hilarious to have one or two of those in a video game.

I went in the back and saw that not one box has been received and it was way past 3pm. The UPS truck usually gets to the store around 8am. I had to find the box myself and asked my supervisor to receive it for me, lol :P

Well, see, inventory usually isn't the best treated department(along with media) in the store. People always complain about those departments. They usually only give us 1 person to open, and 1 person to close. It sucks. We are just now finally starting to get 2 closers here and there for a night. I miss the days where there was nothing to do on a weekday night instead of rushing fast as hell to try and get one of the two pallets of receiving.

But anyway, I've bought too many DS games lately, I need another 3-game case pack lol.

Best Buy should carry ones for GBA and DS. Comes with 3 cases that hold 3 games each. I like them a lot because they're very thing. They should run you around $5 IIRC.

So I go to Best Buy today to take advantage of their Touch Generations deal and I made out better than I thought I would.

I grabbed Elite Beat Agents, Big Brain Academy and Nintendogs. The lady working the counter that I went to rings up Nintendogs as the freebie, even though it was worth more than BBA. Not sure if she was supposed to do that or not.

Anyways, my plan is to return Nintendogs in a few days, unopened of course, and it'll be like I got EBA and BBA for $20. Not bad.

Animal Crossing people: http://www.gametab.com/news/734057/

Animal Crossing faithful, Nintendo has not forsaken you. To help celebrate the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the company will be distributing an exclusive item in Animal Crossing: Wild World starting on November 17th and running through November 24th.

Fan site Just Pause (you win this round, Kotaku) noticed the news in the latest issue of Nintendo Power, though it doesn't explain what's so special about it. In order to receive the letter that will unlock the treat, however, you have to hop onto Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection between the aforementioned dates.

I'm still loving EBA, but I hate it when I run over a rock on my touch screen.

I swear, if one spec of something lands on the screen I can feel it from the stylus and it feels like I scratched the living hell out of it lol. Luckily I have no scratches.

A damp washcloth cleans the screen nicely though.

So I picked up Children of Mana this weekend; got one copy for me and one copy for my girlfriend. We played like 6 hours straight, and I can definitely see how this would get very old, very fast in single-player mode.

But I must say, if you've got two or more people playing together, it's an absolute blast. It's a button-mashing dungeon-crawler, period. It's also got some design flaws (for example, all the quests are pretty much the same: clear dungeon of enemies to complete the quest) and magic is pretty much useless so far (which eliminates being the magic-based character).

Still, it's got that PSO-style addictiveness to it in that it's kind of a crappy game at heart, but so much fun to play and impossible to put down, given you have friends who also own it. I can't recommend it, but under the right circumstances, there is enjoyment to be had here.

Music is also very kickass.

Who are you using? I started off with Poppen, got to level 16, and then realised that he's totally worthless. Magic is pretty useless in this game because the spells take so long to cast, and his physical attacking absolutely blew. We got to the desert boss, and you have to use the bow to hit him, and I was the only one who had a bow, and I did one damage to him with every arrow. Last night I decided I would use Ferrik instead.

I love FFIII. First thing I notice from the beautiful opening and in-game appearance is that the graphic quality definitely reminds me of the PSX era of FF. Second thing, the music is definitely great. I wish for better output quality, but as is it sounds wonderful. Also, for some reason I just love using the touch screen. If I don't have the ability to focus on tapping where I mean to it's a bit annoying and I resort to the buttons, but otherwise the touch screen just seems to make the game even more fun. It's an enjoyable little dungeon-hack in the vein of say, PSO or Diablo. It's on the easy side, though, and the fun factor goes way down unless you have someone else to play it with.

Thanks to Elite Beat Agents (and the general suckiness of every other DS game I've ever played, I've come to the conclusion that Nintendo is a company that I hate.) So, after destroying my DS, I touched that screen like I really wanted to: with a screwdriver.
So Nintendo, who only made the system, is to blame for the "sucky" games, even though they are made by third party companies. And they are sucky because the guy either couldn't play them, or they didn't match with his personal tastes.

So he then decides to destroy the hardware, which he paid for (or received as a gift) and is now at a loss of the cost of the DS.

This is either a rather well-thought up attempt to generate attention, or an indication of what kind of personal this guy is.

On the other hand, even though he took a screwdriver to the screen, it's still mostly intact. Damn thing's made out of transparent Nintendium, after all.

Castlevania kicks major ass. Just played 4 hours or so of it, and beat like 5-6 bosses or so. The preorder bonus is cool too - in the Castlevania timeline fold out, it reveals that the next Castlevania is going to be related to Bloodlines.

I almost stepped on it as well. 8O The postman had placed it between the two outside doors; The lack of light, and my glasses fogging up from the sudden warmth almost did the package in.

Too bad I can't let really let myself enjoy the game until finals are over...

bought a ds lite last weekend with
sonic rush
metroid prime hunters and
new SMB

all fun as hell
the music in sonic rush pwns!!( right there, right there, right there)
plus its actually kinda challenging great game

metroid prime is suprisingly good, works really well with the stylus. But im looking for a thumb stylus at the moment(which are non existent :( ) cos im fed up of tying the top of the stylus to my thumb.

new smb is very good love the look
and im getting those same feelings i got when i played through smw on the snes first time around.taken mario back to his roots yet kept it fresh as a daisy.

not that you lot didnt know that already,i just felt a need to exclaim how pleased i am with this system and games. :D :D

BTW:If anybody knows where i can get a ds thumb stylus IN THE UK, it would be really helpful if you could let me know tahnks

Damn, it's pretty amazing what people will pay for things. The preorder bonuses are cool but not THAT cool. Heh, had people known I guess all the preorders would've gotten preordered up by Ebayers.

Question: What's the plastic block that comes with preorder besides a plastic block with "Castlevania 20th anniversary" written on it? Anything?

It's a game case for two DS games: you have to slide the bottom part out a bit to unlock the cover, then it'll swing open.

The only really worthless part of the preorder bonus is the extra stylus. If it had some kind of cool display around it it would be cool, but it's just a white stylus with 'Castlevania' written on it.

I noticed a lot of people bitching cause the EB games website had the preorder of Castlevania listed as 39.99, and other places had the regular game for 35 bucks. I paid 5 down on the game at the local eb store, and picked it up tonight. With tax, it was 33 something. Guess some people got ripped off ordering from the site.

The EB preorder came with the bonus pack though, which contained a 2 DS game holder with Castlevania written on it, a Castlevania stylus that extends, a 20th Anniversary artbook, a Castlevania foldout timeline, and a CD sampler with music from all of the Castlevanias.

So, I'm almost through with Castlevania, just got Dracula left. I'm taking the time to do the quests, which should take a while, but damn this is quite a game. It even eases things up for newbies to the Castlevania series, giving you ways to look at the percentage to get an item and a quick way to check the stats on monsters you've killed while in combat (select button). This is basically your standard Castlevania though - if you love the Castlevania series, you'll naturally love this game.

Gain enough skill in such things as the boomerrang/bow/sword and they allow for the upgraded version..

I recall reading that when Miyamoto created the original Zelda, one of his goals
was to make a game where a player's ability was not dictated by EXP systems.

I'm not saying that a Zelda game will never use such a system (times change),
but if one is made like that, it will be an interesting turn of events.

I'm not paying money to play another Zelda game that progresses town-dungone-town-dungeon for the duration of the flimsy story. I've found the hookshot, and the boomerang, and pieces of heart, and the Triforce, and the Master Sword or some permutation thereof in every single Zelda game I've ever played. I'm just really sick of it.

So unless they've done something to change the classic formula, I think I'll end up passing.

A zelda game where you need to build up skill in your aquired items would be rather cliched.

How you use a weapon (skill) should be the deciding factor, not how many imaginary experience points you have invested in it.

However I'm definitively up for new and imaginitive Zelda adventures, Majora's Mask was a breath of fresh air in that regard.

The Belmont spirit is so annoying. What Up+Y move do you use on him? What I've done is equip the flame whip (longest range of all my weapons) and use offensive stance as my Up+Y. The only effective attack strategy I've found is to jump at him, whip in the air, such that the very tip hits him when you land, and immediately use L to backdash when you land. But I'm only hitting for 60 some damage wach hit and when he catches me it's 100-200 a hit of my 473 hp. Even so, I have lasted quite a while into the fight, well beyond when he starts throwing holy water. You see, my Charlotte has all the cool offensive stuff but you can only use Jonathan for this fight... so if there's anything I can do to bring him down faster, I'm already lasting pretty damn long myself.

EDIT: I beat him, and have beaten the game too.

You got the fake ending. Did you really think that was the final boss? There's much more to the game than what you got to. Castlevania DoS pulled the same stunt after the Dario battle.

To pass that part without getting the fake ending Cast sanctuary on them. It's quite difficult given its longass casting time. I recommend standing at the right wall to do it.

Also I got past where I was stuck on last post. This is getting interesting.

I was gonna respond to that other post heh. You just have to do enough damage, there wasn't anything special about it, weapon or otherwise. You could've waited until later to do that fight though.

I haven't faced Dracula again because his second form raped me (oh and Dracula is the end boss of like every Castlevania Kitsuta, although Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow treated things differently). I did however go forth trying to collect all the items from every enemy. So far I've collected most of them. I also have been trying to master certain subskills for the quests, but that has been taking so long. I'm fairly certain that I found all of the secret passages in the game though, thanks to a trademark item gotten from the typical guy that has it.

Oh and Final Guard sucks ass, I hate collecting its items :( .

The presence of secret endgames in CV games is starting to become fairly predictable.

Nintendo sent me a questionnaire about Yoshi's Island DS, and I wrote a rather lengthy reason why I was Somewhat Dissatisfied with it.

I've though a lot about it, and it really seems Yoshi's Island DS lacks the magic that Yoshi's Island for the SNES had. Artoon's decision to put the sequel on Yoshi's Island once again forced me to compare the game its prequel constantly. Small changes in jump mechanics left me displeased. The music is subpar in terms of composition compared to the prequel. What I loved about Yoshi's Island for the SNES was that it looked like a kids cartoon, but felt like a mature game. The "kiddy" sound effects crippled that feel in Yoshi’s Island DS. Some bosses were good, but many weren't. If I were to give advice for a sequel, I would tell Artoon to take Yoshi to a completely new island and make a majority of the content new elements never seen before in a Yoshi game. That will make the series feel new and magical again.

Hopefully my advice will be noted.

Man, Dawn of Sorrow had me pretty ticked off about that "ending". I kind of thought it meant there was a sequel that would finish the story or something. Glad someone filled me in on that one, because I probably wouldn't have figured it out on my own. It sort of disappoints me that they pulled the same trick in Portrait of Ruin. At least I know about it this time.

Anyway, DQ9 should be interesting. Disappointed to hear that Phantom Hourglass has been delayed. There sure are a lot of good DS games I still wanna play, though: FF3DS, Trauma Center (might just play the Wii version if I can), Hotel Dusk Room 212, Phoenix Wright 2, etc.

I've just been playing the first Phoenix Wright, lately, and loving it. Just started the final case. I've been laughing so hard at this game, also occasionally getting really excited over it. It's so satisfying when you prove that someone is lying. Occasionally I feel like which evidence you're supposed to use is kind of a stretch, though. Most glaringly, the thing with the plates in Case 3.

When your partner gets hit, instead of losing health you lose MP, which is no big deal.

Even so, I usually had one characte out at a time and switched when I needed it. However, using your partner's special with R is quite handy, I used that all the time.

Use Jet Black Whip (Gained after beating Medusa), and the mastered Cream Pie. Cream Pie does a ton of dark damage to him, for only one MP. If you don't have Cream Pie, use Shuriken instead.

Grind again Personaphe and Harpies if you need lots of healing items to use against him.

So there's been a lot of yelling going on at some sites (joystiq) about who the heck at Square-Enix decided to put DQIX to the DS. This (http://blog.wired.com/games/2006/12/dragon_quest_on.html) was a good read as to why.

I for one, was delighted to know it'd be on the DS.

I have no idea how the unlockables thing works. I *did* do most of the quests though, including beating Nest of Evil...

How do I unlock the bonus stuff? Also, I get the real ending by casting Sanctuary on the vamp twins, right?

Try to use Vampire Killer when killing Dracula?

Try to use Vampire Killer when killing Dracula?I never got to fight him, just the vampire twins. Then Brauner was like, okay you win I'll destroy Drac's castle. And then he did. And that was it.

Start the fight with Jonathan active, equipped with Taunt, and Charlotte equipped with Sancuary.

Wait till they do icicle drop, move off to the side and start the casting with R, and use taunt to bring them away from her. Just take the ice like a man, use potions if needed.

Nintendo recalls 200,000 Japan AC Adapters (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/technology/AP-Japan-Nintendo-Recall.html?_r=3&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin&oref=login&oref=slogin)

Not much information as to what's going on with them, but it says that overseas ones should not be affected. Those of you who may have imported a DS Lite to get it early should look into this.

The main map is about as big as the map for an early GBA CV. It seems almost as big as Aria of Sorrow (less bosses though...) But then you have about 8 paintings, which are about half the size of AS each. Hell, this game may be as big or even bigger than SotN.

Drack

It's really just 4 paintings, but the second time around you go through them backwards with new backgrounds and enemies. I'd count the last 4 as half a painting each.

Well, the pyramid level is somewhat different, and the dark academy had me fooled I never saw it was that city thing in reverse, at least I think it weas the city... Anyway, of we see upside down castle as a new castle and not as half a map, then we should see the extra paintings as additional maps of their own.

The Dark Academy is Dark Forest in reverse - 13th Street is the city in reverse

I would say the 4 paintings are new maps, especially since they have new enemies, new bosses etc. The only ways they are similar is the layout, which is still different because the rooms connect in different ways(and the Circus of Fools maps had different shapes entirely), and the theme, which I think was a great choice. I loved that the second set of paintings was so much darker than the first.

Also, the Den of Evil is awesome.

I don't know why, but I'm being a real completionist with this game. I rarely do that because most games I play have an overwhelming amount of stuff and take so long just to get through. I have all but three or four drops now though, and a 999.3% rating(the other .7% would, of course, be the final boss' chamber).

So awesome.

Yeah, somehow Castlevania games do that to me too. Something about them compels you to collect. Kinda like A Link to the Past.

Mm, Zelda. I didn't do that when I was a kid, but I'm sure if I replayed it I would get obsessed with that too. That was a damn good game.

So, I'm almost complete with a normal mode file - got 1000%, got 1 enemy left to find (that I suspect I know how to fight), 2 quests left to complete (one requiring only one more level in order for me to complete, and another requiring me to master 3 particular weapon subskills, but I now have the Master Ring), and several enemy items to collect. I refuse to master all of the weapon subskills though, that's just too much.

I'll probably start a hard mode file sometime after winter break.

Of if you're doing the other one

Up, Back, Down, Forward, Y

Haven't you ever played a fighting game?

Also, edit cause I don't double post:

The ending (+ lack of a final boss) when playing as the Sisters sucked. I wanted to KILL Brauner, not set up Jonathan+Charlotte's story!

Also, edit because I don't triple post:

WTF, Why is Dracula weak against the Vampire Killer when Jonathan uses it but STRONG against it when Richter uses it?!

Yeah, the sister's ending sucked, although it was fun to play. And OMFG is Dracula hard with Richter! I have got up to the second form several times, but I usually have taken too much damage up to that point. I've given up on Richter for now though.
